also fun fact, this was lined with a feather pen that i had to dip into an inkwell :D my lining pen was broken by my siblings but this had the perfect nib !

Hello hello! I have little time (and energy, i'm a little sick atm haha) to draw, but I've got bbpau on the brain so I'm thinking of introducing each character's role in the story. Which brings me to ask-

These are very arbitrary groups, but those who are grouped together have interconnected stories and I think it's easiest to introduce them together.

I'll also obviously giving a bit more info on how each of them know Etho and/or Joel as i introduce them.

The atmosphere in the dodgebolt arena is electric. It's Ren's first time back in MCC in quite a while, and the fact that he's made it to this point would be more surprising if not for his teammates- False, Cleo, and Cub- who he can't help but feel a little bit carried by. Sure, he's has his fair share of great performances, but the game has changed so much since he last stepped foot in it, and they're far more familiar with it's new intricacies. It's weighing on him especially now, waiting for the final round of a dodgebolt he's been... struggling in, to say the least.

As the previous round of dodgebolt ends and the waiting period for the next starts, the arena comes alive with spectators and other competitors alike swarming their friends, giving them tips or encouragement or praise for their performance. Ren is quickly swept into the crowd, people chattering on all sides. The sound is so much that Ren only barely hears someone calling his name, and only really registers it when he feels someone tugging on his sleeve.

Ren turns to see Martyn, with Bigb trailing close behind him. Ren lights up instantly, and lets himself be pulled into a quick and tight hug.

"Hey, that was a great round!" Martyn says, shouting slightly over the din of the crowd. "I think you guys have this!"

"Yeah, Falsie got some great kills off that round," Ren says, unable to hold back his smile as he remembers False's impressive 2v1.

"Hey, don't forget your own contributions," Bigb says, pushing him lightly. "You did some impressive dodging that round, and you got your own kill, you're doing great!"

Ren chuckles, only barely holding himself back from reminding Bigb that he also walked straight off the platform in round one, so perhaps those two things even out.

Above their heads, a tone plays out, letting the players know the next round is about to start and they should get moving to their places. Ren turns to go, but Bigb stops him with a hand on his arm.

"Before you go-" Bigb leans forward and presses a quick kiss to Ren's lips. "For luck!"

Before Ren can do much more than smile at him, he's passed in Martyn's direction to receive another short kiss.

"Alright, now go get 'em," Martyn smiles, gently pushing Ren in the direction of his teammates.

Ren smiles widely at the pair of them, waving as he's ushered off. Hopefully the next time he sees the both of them, he'll be up on the winner's podium. Ren's sure they'll both like seeing him in the crown again.

Watching Bigb’s double life pov rn and actively loosing my shit over ep 3. It’s funny as all hell. Bigb says so many things just out of pocket. Also great for the role-play and characterization

I so despise the genre difference between Ren and Martyn's episodes specifically because of the way Martyn's death was seen through each lens. (ASBUAGH please send help)

This is because Ren is a man experiencing the horrors and Martyn is a man letting the horrors experience him.

When Martyn died, he was laughing, and when Cleo resurrected him he immediately took on the roll of a cartoon-like goon with an accent and a death wish. Martyn's very comedic, and his episodes are comedy as well (he adds in the lore angst later). Even when he saw Ren post-death he didn't break character.

Ren's perspective of Martyn's death was different, because not only did he arrive just in time to witness the death of his one and only ally, he was disguised as him when it happened. He was immediately chased out of the area for this, and found Cleo, the one person who could revive Martyn (at least, for the five minutes remaining). He went in search of a new team so he wouldn't be picked off just as easily, mourning Martyn's death to his allies, and his episode ends as he's thrown from the palisades BY MARTYN'S FELLOW GHOST AND FRIEND and dies.

Martyn, knowing about all this, was still trying to murder Gem with a creeper after the timer went up.

I think my favourite part about the 30-minute demon roleplay session between Ren and Martyn today was that for the first half, Ren didn't even know Martyn was streaming. So he was just acting like that for fun and whimsy.

I’m going to become a modern Socrate with you (/silly) it is really tragic how people don’t do more with them considering their character like Scott’s brand vs his personality is like the when you learn the general cutsey unicorn mermaid ( this is his brand) idea of mythos was gentrification for marketing and they can actually get really gruesome and insane (his personality) like that is the best analogy I can think of him. He is yuor angle or yuor devil. Sweet kind sassy gay man but he can and will say and do evil things to you. And Martyn on the other hand is just literally so big dog codded. He has his set people he sticks with that are his and he gets possessive. He’ll kill for them but when the time comes he’s not afraid to, as my friend rose has said, treat them as equals and have a fair fight with them. And they know this, but even after that he still holds them near and dear. And a lot of people think Martyn gets remorseful over that but he doesn’t. It never made sense to me, hes a guy who’s getting kicked and tortured around by gods yes, but he’s also out for blood.  in the same light Martyn is also a dork loser (affectionate) The thing about Scott and Martyn though is that they’re both loyal in different ways but it just works so well together too. Like I’ll never get over how Scott let Martyn kill him because he didn’t want anyone else to have his time. And then when Scott was talking about Martyns birthday party with him (important to add HE KNEW WHEN HIS BIRTHDAY ON THE ACTUAL DATE  AND NONE OF THE OTHERS DID) he was like “Scott could I please kill you it’s my birthday 🥺” he loves it. He loves it sooooo much because he’s a freak. And it was so pathetic and sad what’s wrong with him. but also Scott’s the one who’d put himself up on the chopping block for him and let Martyn kill him. That is their love. That invented love. And Scott has said he’d would even wanna pair up with him again and again in later series if he didn’t have his allies. In contrast to how flower husbands said they weren’t coming back. They are both just able to be their craziest around each other!!! But GRAAAAHHH I DONT SEE MANY PPL USE STUFF WITH IT. HELL I KNOW SCOTT AND MARTYN  ARE EVEN MORE ABNORMAL IN OTHER SMPS. I know the mcyt loves cannibalism but Yknow I’ve only seen ONE FIC where they cannibalize each other AND THAT WAS THE MOST INSANE THING IVE SEEN WITH THEM SO FAR AND ?? IT COULD BE SO MUCH MORE INSANE?? PLEASE MAKE THWM WORSE GUYS PLEASEEEEE LET ME OUT OF THE BARS OF MY ENCLOSURE IT CAN BE SO MICH WORSE THAN CANNLIBLISM

"Do you really think I'm evil?"

Ren frowned softly, claws scraping over Martyn's scalp. Only one of them thought to put a bed down, so they had to share, naturally. Maybe if it was someone else he would have suggested a pillow between the two of them, or someone sleep with their head at the foot of the bed- sleep in opposite directions. This was Martyn however, and even though it had been... some time since the two had been in such proximity to one another, that did not seem to erase the casual ease of which they fitted in next to one another.

"No, Martyn, I don't think you are evil, not really," he paused, thinking how to form his next thought, something he only did when what he had to say was more important than rambling on. Martyn was patient with him, as always. "I do think... That you have been through things that I do not know. That you have.. not quite changed- hardened, perhaps? Gained more mischief? Something of the like- Something to make others wary of you."

Martyn snorted at that, like it was a joke. For a moment it did scare Ren, that Martyn had no qualms with being waried against. They were still in the early game, Ren had more lives than he really knew what to do with (more than three- so many more than just three), and Martyn felt like someone that was standing on the edge of chaos and mayhem and everything you expected from someone on their final life- at the very least their second to last.

He wasn't scared though. He wasn't scared of Martyn, because Martyn wasn't evil. He wasn't frightening. He was Martyn: his hand, his partner, his lieutenant (he had a strange dream the other night of them being Pi-rats, Pirate Rats, and it was a good dream). He had nothing to fear from him.

But a small part of him, one that was still regaining his legs in his game of death, was starting to believe that some of the others did have something to fear from his dear friend.

"Do you think I'm foolish?" Ren asked, and he doesn't think he meant to ask that at all, but words tend to just tumble out of his mouth.

Martyn shifted, more of his weight pressing against Ren's side, "A little. Not more foolish than I, my- er- yeah."

There was a space at the end of that statement, wanting to be filled with a Captain or Liege or King. He wondered if they'd end up filling it with something new this time around, or rehash something from their past. He doesn't think he wants to be a king again. A part of him wonders if he could just be Ren this time, or if they were always bound to play a role in these games instead of themselves.

"Do you want me to soften you?" And he thinks that's a worse question than the first.

It makes Martyn very quiet for a moment. Then, softly, "I don't think you have a choice in that."

He supposes not.

every day i cross my heart and wish for doc and martyn to be in the same smp or stream or something because the interactions between doctor "easily-riled anime villain" m77 and martyn "professional stress-testing weeb" alsoknownasinthelittlewood would be the stuff of legend and the pair of them could out-drama ren with very little effort

Life Series In Your Style Challenge!

I did the challenge! These are all generic designs for everyone because in my head, they all have slightly different designs for each season.

Design Notes:

Grian: Purple eyes because Watcher and the colours of his wings represent the life series colours

Scar: His scars are meant to be explosion damage caused

Mumbo: Vampire, that’s it

Jimmy: Canary Jimmy!

Joel: I tried to make him look more ogre like (referencing his original skin being just Shrek) so teeth and ears

Scott: He’s an elf to reference his Empires Season 1 character because I like ESMP S1 a lot

Impulse: I like the design choice of giving him horns that quite a few fanartists do

Skizz: Pretty much just his skin design plus halo because I see a lot of people give him angel features?

Tango: Saw another post that pointed out the similarities between his skin and a Minecraft bee so bee antennae, he’s wearing a leather biker vest

Etho: I tried to make him look as dissimilar to Kakashi as possible, the hearts on his headband are the life series hearts

Bdubs: Pretty much just his skin design, not much to say there

Cleo: I tried to give her really big 80s hair

Martyn: Listener marking on his face to reference his CC self’s inclusion of EVO Lore in the Life series (also in my headcanon, Martyn is kind of a Listener himself but he’s not too aware of it) and Ren’s red colour in headband because they ally a lot

Ren: Martyn’s green in his hair tie to connect the two of them together more design wise

Lizzie: Hair buns are triangular to mimic cat ears and feather ears to link her to Jimmy (seablings and kind of canary curse)

BigB: It’s just his base Minecraft skin but in my mind his outfits changes a lot for each season

Gem: Deer motifs to parallel Pearl’s wolf motifs, also because deer are nimble and she is shown to be someone who is difficult to kill (there’s also some irony because she’s often “hunted” I guess by other players)

Pearl: Wolf motifs because she has an army of them (also to parallel Gem)

Pearl: can fly and has hermes hat (is ths postmaster on Hermitcraft and Esmp death related goddess)

Martyn: (Can listen in on anyone) Was called a listener by the watchers

Gem: (Astral projection) Canonically a celestial being that can hop between worlds whenever she goes to sleep according to the Empires and Hermitcraft crossover... kinda like the concept of astral projection.

ZombieCleo: (Can raise the dead) She's a zombie

Ren: (Impersonation) Putting his theater kid abilities to the test ig?

Scott: (Animal shapeshifter) ??? Well, in lim life he turned into some kind of sea creature and now he's turning into a creaking, so maybe it's a reference to that?

Grian: (mimic) it's his series he can do whatever he wants. Also gets to show people what their powers are like he did with Pearl so it's a practical ability for the game master of sorts to have (also fits with eyesandears!Grian wanting to help his friends)

Lizzie: (can blind people or summon shadows idk I've only seen glimpses of it in Martyn's pov) She's LDShadowLady and she makes everything turn dark

Bdubs: (can control time) is obsessed with making sure the sun rises immediately in Hermitcraft and is the god of the sun according to Empires and Hermitcraft crossover

Bigb: (summons creaking) He's a creaking

Scar: maybe it's a reference to the lion king and can go "long live the king" and punch someone off a cliff or do "I can show you the world" bits dfk

No idea about everyone else

I've slept on it and realized that no, I am not over session seven Renwood.

Ren is so heartbroken after Martyn’s death and forced resurrection that he refuses to leave inthelittlelake for the entire break between wildcards.

When BigB goes to find Ren and get him out of the base, he realizes Ren looks… different.

The most notable difference is the streaks of blonde in his hair. His eyes are blue instead of brown and there are scars that Ren never had on his arms and chest.

BigB knew it was a matter of Ren using his power at the last moment before they got taken away, he had watched Scott get stuck as a chicken for a solid 15 minutes before Grian managed to undo it. However, Ren didnt really seem to want to undo this. He seemed happy to have some reminder of Martyn going into what would definitely be the final bloodbath.
