Postal dude 1 with his son (little kid-postal dude 2! Who we call "the postal kid!").

We actually gave them names, too! (Sorry, they're not P names, but I could care less. Feel free to call them Postal dude and Postal kid if it bothers you that much).

PD1's name is Michael Toddhunter, and his son's (PD2) name is Aster Toddhunter (hehe get it? As in "disaster").

Preface: This takes place AFTER the first postal game. This is an AU of sorts, so just erase the ending of the game + a bunch of other things, and have Michael fuck off somewhere, nobody ever knowing his identity so he gets away with everything. That was a "TLDR" explanation of it. We could maybe explain this better on a different post in the future.

Anyways! Here's some lore we have about them:

Michael is the Command Sergeant Major for U.S army's RI Arsenal. Yes, he did serve in the army before going postal in the first game. Don't ask how he got up to that rank because god knows I don't know either.

He and Aster live in the Quad cities, Illinois, aka some fuck ass midwestern region of cities that only gets some attention from the John deere company that hogs the area. Fuck john deere.

Michael is a single dad. He somehow managed to win all custody over Aster. He doesn't talk about his ex-gf.

They live in a house that's next to a trailer park, so they're not exactly dirt fuckin' poor but they ain't buying branded food either. They're still trailer park trash without living directly in the trailer park though.

Michael has tried to give Aster some sense of normality (sorta) but Aster clearly is not cut out to be a normal child. He's very rowdy, violent, and bullies the neighborhood kids (if you get the reference, you're cool).

Michael calls Aster "My little wild thing" (reference to Aster's favorite book; where the wild things are).

When Aster was 5, for Christmas, Michael gifted him a black cat he bought for $10 at the pet store ( he didn't question it). Michael cruelly didn't think the cat would last long, but that cat might as well outlive him. Aster named the cat "Kostroma" and has shoved his dad's guns up it's ass and used it as a silencer to shoot at beer bottles in their backyard. Kostroma hasn't died (nor appears to be scarred or traumatized), no matter what Aster has put him through. He's like some weird immortal cat (who surprisedly loves Aster as much as Aster loves him). Michael and Aster don't question it.

Aster loves uncrustables. His addiction literaly is grape jelly uncrustables. He has to have one once a day or else he'll start wreaking havoc in the neighborhood.

Michael brings Aster to work sometimes (usually when Aster gets kicked out of school or is being too insufferable for the neighborhood). He can't help it, and it's not like anybody can give him shit for it.

That's all we'll share for now!! Hopefully we'll post more in the future!! Me and my bestie have been working on this since like late May, and we plan to continue to work on it >;). I'll leave ya'll with this doodle I did of Kostroma cat.

qsmp eggs as D&D characters because I can't help but fuse both of my current fixations together

Chayanne — Ive decided that every single egg is a dragonborn for the sake of simplicity, so that just brings me to figuring out class and subclass for each of them. I originally was thinking a simple fighter for Chayanne, but then, upon remembering what was quite literally an oath to protect everyone, decided he'd make a rather good paladin, particularly oath of devotion. he's devoted to keeping everybody safe, no matter the cost. if I were to give him a breath weapon, it'd be fire. he's a dragonborn paladin (devotion)!

Tallulah — Tallulah was always going to be a bard, are you kidding me? from there, looking through all the bard subclasses, I figured lore suited her best. she collects info! she gave qwil that book full of info about marigolds, she asks questions so she can know more about the world. yeah. she's a smart girl. dragonborn bard (lore).

Dapper — this is THE artificer. this autistic fuck (/affectionate bc me too buddy, me too) loves everything machinery, and he's fuckin good at it, too. considering his additional love for collecting animals, I've decided to make him a battle smith so he can have a steel defender. he would take very good care of it. I considered armorer due to the unique sets of armor I've seen him wear, but battle smith suited him just a tad better. he's a dragonborn artificer (battle smith).

Ramón — Ramón is also THE artificer! they are artificer pals. while Dapper focuses more on combat-ready mechanics, Ramon's been doing a lot of work on his elevator. also, bombs! fuck, he and qfit have so many bombs, they're practically their first line of defense. therefore, artillerist. he's good at throwing shit across the battlefield, staying stationary and hunkered down. dragonborn artificer (artillerist).

Leonarda — Leo was a little difficult. from the beginning, I knew I wanted her to be a primarily martial class, but I didn't want to leave her without any magic, either. so I figured a monk could be fitting due to their innate ki. considering. you know. dragon. I just had to give her ascendant dragon. dragonborn monk (ascendant dragon).

Bobby — oh yeah, this boy's a fighter alright. I considered barbarian for his tendency to sometimes throw tantrums, but it just wasn't right for him. I definitely considered gunslinger, but he's not particularly known for his guns, and I was eventually led to banneret, aka the purple dragon knights. he's definitely one of the braver kids, and I think his bold deeds could definitely inspire those around him. Bobby is a dragonborn fighter (banneret).

Richarlyson — he was kind of difficult! Richarlyson has picked up a number of skills from all six of his dads, making him fairly versatile and all-around skilled. I was, however, leaning a more martial class, and looked to monk first. none of the subclasses felt right, so I went bard due to their jack of all trades thing. wasn't right, so I thought about ranger, and that seemed like it could work due to their wide range of specialization. looking through subclasses, I picked monster slayer out of the bunch. just about all of his dads are terrorized by cucurucho in one way or another. he's practically got a sixth sense for the fucker now. Richarlyson's a dragonborn ranger (monster slayer).

Tilín — that's a rogue. yeah. that's a rogue. qQ himself taught them all about lying to other people to get what you want, and you're gonna tell me that's not a fucking rogue? right. rogue has a ton of interesting subclasses, but I felt like soulknife was a really interesting pick for her. soulknife rogues focus on the manipulation of the mind, fucking with a person's head to change their perception or easily slip by them. felt like they could use a little bit of magic, too, so he's got the psionic abilities that come with it. this is a dragonborn rogue (soulknife).

Juanaflippa — considered fighter gunslinger, but this is also a rogue! not a particularly magical one, though. Juanaflippa never really had much, always too busy shooting guns and coping with her parents' numerous divorces. HOWEVER, when you consider the whole necromancy element of her character (died, came back, fucking died again) on top of all the headcanons of her haunting the island, she's a pretty fun phantom. she's got an innate connection to death and the undead, and she knows what's dead when she sees it. I debated scout, but phantom was too cool to pass up. dragonborn rogue (phantom) for her.

Trump — I don't know shit about trump, but I like to think that if he survived longer, he would've taken after the crazy science aspect of both his dads, giving it a magical twist and going wizard. figured either evocation or abjuration would be good subclasses for him. decided on abjuration because damn, that's what this kid needed. dragonborn wizard (abjuration).

I haven't been very sappy on main so *throws sad shit at you* (aka me thanking the fable community and cast again, cuz goddammit you guys are so neat and cool)

Fable smp was, and is probably one of my favorite things I've discovered, i clicked on one of heyhays vods one day on a whim and gods im so glad i did, the way Fable has shaped me as a person and helped me improve is honestly crazy, its how i got into doing art, how i improved, how i met most of my friends, its genuinely been an amazing journey.

For me as a person, my home has always been an odd environment, without getting into too much detail my family has lots of trauma circling around, my brother and dad especially, so the way Fable comforted me through bad days, or when my dad would burst out at me or my mum, its genuinely such a crazy thing that these little block guys have helped me through so fucking much, the way they've helped me discover who i am, to feel represented through so many characters, heck even just hyperfixating with others, its amazing

Its helped me become more confident in my own skin, able to accept my body and how fucked up it is, from the rep with disabilities to identities, seeing something like "hey i have that!" Or "i experience that!", even the small pieces, its so fuckin awesome to see such cool people that are honestly like me

To all the cast: thank you, if not for making Fable, but for representing people, for showing us how much of an outlet being creative can be, and everything in between, all of this is so crazy how cool and detailed it is, truly.

To the fandom: you all are so fuckin cool, the way i get so excited when you guys interact with my stuff, art, silly posts, or just jokes, it's just so cool to interact with y'all, I've made so many friends and i know I'll make more, especially with all the smps y'all promote, keep doin that, i love your stuff guys<3

To Athena: thank you, genuinely, for making a space that i feel seen in, i feel welcome in, the rep with C!Athenas disability and still having a great time, having a fulfilling life, which I've been told so many times I can't have due to my disabilities, its so amazing, even if its sleepy stardew, lore, or anything in-between, your community and self is so inviting and comforting. Your voice has always been so comforting (like a chill pink mixed with a light coffee brown feel:]), and i genuinely can't thank you enough, if not for representing me, but for becoming a comfort streamer for me

To Ghosty: Caspian as a character was so cool to see, his story was like a good book really, one you could pull up and watch with some tea or hot coco and a blanket, one that was so interesting, I've experienced some of the issues he worked through and it felt so amazing to see, especially a trans character whos entire personality wasn't that he was trans, or a character who struggled with grief but was still happy and able to be *alright* sometimes, thank you.

To Sherb: the way you did lore, and continue to do lore, always excited me, got me feeling genuine emotions, which I've always struggled with, it made me get into storytelling, something I've always enjoyed, it made me get into telling my own stories, its been so enjoyable, and will continue to be ! Icarus as a character made me feel seen in the way that you can care for someone, trust them fully, but they can still be a good person, but the way they treat you makes you believe they're a good person, and thats really important to me. To Connor: gods your writing is so cool, your fics motivated me to start writing again, and Ulysses as a character as well is such an interesting character, his writing is so neat and his story again made me feel so seen in many ways, and your writing is so good

Finally, To Beck: Arisanna was and continues to be a character i resonate with, always working for someone, never for yourself, feeling alone at times even with many people, having to or feeling like you have to provide for your friends and family, i grew up feeling like i had to protect my older brother, make sure he was alright, and Ari made me feel seen in that way, thanks for that, really

I wanted my next longpost about DNT to focus on what this book reveals wrt the process of Joining. Instead, I accidentally went on a rant in the Discord server about the Killiks as a people during this particular era of galactic history in-universe, and by extension, Raynar Thul.

Raynar Thul, aka UnuThul, is a Joiner of Unu of some significance who I've put off explaining because when I entered the book, I knew about him and I considered his presence abhorrent. I've since gotten over some of those feelings, but I'm better off copy-pasting my Discord Rant than to try and summarize here.

Spoilers for The Joiner King below, but don't worry about that too much, as I'm kind of reading this book so you don't have to.

The trouble with this particular novel is that while it's EXTREMELY juicy with Bug Lore, half of what it reveals about Kind society/culture/biology are New Developments™️ that i'm having to untangle from what could feasibly have been present before, ie, within the SWTOR era. Basically the premise of this book is that the nest has been undergoing some Changes due to the influence of a highly Force-sensitive Joiner, who was then able to extend his will over the nest as a whole. So discovering which is the nasty yucky invasive anthropomorphism introduced into my bugs by this character and which is the acceptable seasoning of anthropomorphism inherent to the development of a fictional intelligent species is not always super cut and dry

Like, the care given to individual casualties is an explicitly new development (makes sense, there aren't a ton of eusocial hive insects IRL that perform triage), but is the spaceport they built? Is the trade they're performing with other species? Is the Colony involving multiple distinct nests sharing a unified hive mind as opposed to a bunch of them? I'm like, not sure

Which is kind of funny, because the idea that the Killiks were a static culture until this One Guy with the right levels of space magic crashed into their planet & exerted his will over them with his last burst of near-death strength Also Really Bothers Me(edited)

I want the LEAST anthro version of my bugs!!! I want the version of them BEFORE Raynar Thul got his grubby little mind all over them!

Joiners as a concept are fuckin sick not only because of what the bugs can give to them but for what they can give to the bugs. Joiners aren't Oops! All Hive Mind, they are two minds. Your old personality and memories still exist, but your understanding of the world and your priorities are now one with the Hive. And because I <3 TLT and I'm really big on the permeability of the soul rn, that suggests to me that the character and personality of a hive would change, slowly and surely, depending on the types of Joiners incorporated into it. It would have to. If the hive mind pre-Raynar has no clear source, no clear singular will behind it (disclaimer: IDK if this is true, I have 2.75 more entire book to read), then it could only be shaped and influenced by all its participants, bug and otherwise.

Raynar's existence + influence over the Colony doesn't preclude this possibility, but like. He does raise a question,

that being, could any Forcie have done this under the right circumstances? if not Why not

Like the book hasn't stated it outright but the wiki seemed confident that this guy has been the only Forcie Joiner to get subsumed, and while I don't know if that's a wholly accurate statement bc fucking nobody has read these books, the fact that the books gave the wiki authors that impression BUGS ME (pun intended)

This is the first EU book I've ever read. IDK what kinds of fuckin galactic percentages of Forcies to non-Forcies it's assuming. Obviously the number would be low because this book takes place a point when the Jedi are bouncing back from a painful extinction, but that extinction was recent, it was artificial, and also as we all know well Jedi =/= all Force users and statistically it is buckwild crazy to me that the Killiks would exist for 20,000+ years (the migration Vector mentions was introduced here btw! These are the Kind that left Alderaan, that he was looking for!) and at no point would they have picked up a strong-willed Force-user before this one dude

Now, there IS a confounding factor here. Which is, I imagine any other Forcie Joiners pre-Raynar were not, um. Trying to influence the nest as hard as he was

For starters he's just super duper strong in the Force, but also, he Joined because he crashed into a planet and crawled out of his ship half-dead and super on fire after watching multiple of his friends die horribly, and the will he exerted over the Killiks was a last-ditch effort to get them to save his life as opposed to eating him

that is a SPECIFIC-ASS set of circumstances and maaaybe if such a thing happened again within a different and unrelated nest, the same thing could have happened. Maybe it wasn't the presence of Force abilities that caused this one guy's brain to redirect the flow of the collective mind, but the effort he was putting behind it, effort that previous Force-sensitive Joiners had not found a need to wield

And also, like, UnuThul is 100% a Joiner. He is no more the same guy he was going in than Vector is, this is made clear

Bright side: as I said, I have A TON of this book left to go. And there have been a bunch of really strange happenings within the nest that Raynar in his Dawn-Herald-On-Steroids role seems as baffled by as the rest of the Kind. So maybe the next Big Reveal is gonna blow my ass clean off, slash positive, and make this all sit right with me.

But nonetheless I am bovvered. I am bovvered that a hive mind could develop a person in the drivers' seat for any reason. It feels too easy and it feels too anthropomorphizing, and both of those make it reeeally boring

fkshfjsh i think those white bits are just his fox coloring but also? imagine fundy had died and come back to life? i know next to nothing about fundy’s lore but from what i’ve seen, he has a big problem with being forgotten and excluded (daddy issues, amirite?) so if he died, came back, and no one noticed, it could play directly into that.

maybe by schlatt, during the manburg v pogtopia era? maybe schlatt had a reason to keep him around? so when he lost his last two lives, he just revived him. maybe it was partially a test to see if the book worked, maybe schlatt just wanted someone who was still in his corner (at least, he thought fundy was still in his corner), but for whatever reason, he brought fundy back. the pogtopia members didn’t notice anything different about him (except that his white coloring was a bit different, and he seemed so very driven to take schlatt down, even more than before. they didn’t know, but fundy wanted to make sure no body had that book, that nobody had that power to bring back the dead, because, much like canon tommy, he doesn’t want anyone to go through that pain. but by the time fundy is truly working with pogtopia, schlatt’s already given the book to dream. when fundy can’t find it after doomsday, a terrible and heavy fear drove itself into his heart. it didn’t ease when he heard that dream had the book.)

but anon did say ‘inherently ghostly’ and i think that’s a v cool idea. maybe sally the salmon was a ghost or something (i’m going with shapeshifter!sally just so the ghost thing makes more sense- no one wants a ghost salmon just floppin around fjshfj) and we’re not gonna get into the specifics on how a ghost can have a living child but yeah. maybe that could explain how he aged so quickly, and could also lead to a very cool, more ghostly design for fundy.

anyway i just took my interpretations of what anon was saying and fuckin ran with them but in conclusion, i know nothing about c!fundy and refuse to read his wiki <3

Ok since no one's gonna ask me abt my colour thoughts with carla and lionel i'll write it out myself /j

Anyways take my stupid analysis under the cut bc i know im gonna end up rambling and long posts are annoying to scroll by on mobile

Okok so i mentioned in the tags of this post that i have thoughts on lionel being represented by blue and carla by red in Walk/The final chapter of The Hex.

For Lionel, the video of him getting murdered is purely blue, like if you took the fuckin Twilight filter and intensified it. As well, he mentions Gamefuna in at least four of the sections in Walk (I cant remember for sure with Vicious Galaxy and the last lil bit with the trophy + reggie lore reveal), and just overall has continuous connections to the colour blue.

Carla, on the other hand, while never physically appearing, is associated with the colour red via Sado. Outside of gold earrings, Sado's only proper colour is red. Red eyes appear in most of the puzzles during Walk, which Lionel remarks is a bug that he's been dealing with since Carla made Sado. Finally, when Lionel.exe crashes in Beneath The Surface (Carla's game), the Sado faces are purely red (which, granted, it's the same way if you try to use a cheat code to kill Sado in Waste World, but still).

So we also see this blue/red colour scheme back in Pony Island, which is obviously connected to The Hex (Lou Natas/Lucifer running Gamefuna, Asmodeus appears in the Secrets of Legendaria crash, you can find Louey in Waste World, and finally Lucifer's symbols appearing on Vallamir's dark spells book. Probably more but that's all I know), and ik the connection is definitely not real at all, I like to think about colours for anything that isnt drawing (colour theory my detested)

So the only character in PI we see with a purely blue colour scheme is the Hopeless Soul, who is, for obvious reasons, the only real ally we have in PI. He's strongly against Lucifer, and aids the player in deleting PI. And while Lionel obviously isn't against Gamefuna/Lou like HS is (selling swk, working for them for cax and sol, using the gameworks engine, etc.), he's definitely been put in that victim position when it comes to Gamefuna. If he hadn't used the Gameworks engine, his characters might not have been sentient. And hey, if they were still sentient, then there would've been no irving (and no irving means no leg crushing and no leg crushing means no strangulation). As well, Lionel's reputation is definitely ruined by selling swk to Gamefuna. Overall, much like HS and all the other souls Lou had in his possession, Lionel's life gets veeeeery much so ruined just for being associated with them (not to say everything wasn't also his own fault, it very much so was, but I also cant blame him for treating game characters like shit. He didnt know they were alive until, like, a few weeks before he died. Aka during Lazarus' escape from the Gameworks building when Irving told him he's sentient, as implied in the audio I wrote down in this post).

Then we look to Carla, who's associated with the colour red (or yellow if you wanna argue that, because of the ducks, but that's not the point). In PI, the Daemons protecting the core files are all red (outside of slight glitchiness having small amounts of blue, but overall they're very red). They're working with Lou, helping to protect the very files that make up the game. With Carla, it's implied that she used satanic methods to made Sado like. That. (It's hinted at by the occult symbol on her Sado design notes in Walk, which we know is also the logo for Satantech Corp. in PI). Like the Daemons, Carla's got a reason to be against one specific person. The Daemons are against you, the player, because you're trying to delete what they're trying to protect. And, well, Carla hates Lionel for majorly screwing her over in several fucking ways. She's an ally of Lou's to some degree, and is responsible for creating the literal fucking demon spawn that fucks with you four fucking times. (Sado's battle in cax, killing Rocky in ww, her battle in vg2, and then the jumpscare and eyes in walk). Overall, she's slotted into that antagonistic role, not to mention the fact that her creation ends up killing Luke at the end of inscryption. Honestly I'm really hoping we get more Carla lore in the next dmg game, but that's besides the point.

Buuut yeah! Those are my lil thoughts on the colour connections. Again, obv im just yanking random things and running with it, but considering how little we actually do know about these two (especially carla) outside of what little we're told, I like being able to do lil analysis type things with these bitches. Gud morning, this is Munday when I post a bunch of random OOC to try to cut down on what I post the rest of the week! - My mom looks so old and ugly in pictures and like. . .she does not look like that at all in real life. And it gives me comfort because I look awful in my photos too. My pictures look NOTHING like what’s in the mirror. I know I am prettier than that. So seeing the same thing happen to someone else is validating in that ok so I’m NOT just delusionally vain, the camera indeed doesn’t like me. She says she’s never been photogenic either. We have the same coloring so I think that might be it. - I think it’s hilarious that my top three favorite books are The Last Unicorn, A Little Princess, and Jurassic Park. Like, you’ve got a very beautiful tragic ethereal fairytale, a just-after-the-Victorian-era Cinderella story about the power of imagination and about remaining graceful and kind at all times, and. . . .all-female sex-changing genetic monsters run amok killing the men who tried to control them gruesomely (no srsly everyone who dies is a man as a consequence of there being only two female characters to begin with) And like The fact all of these struck a deep chord with me since a young age says a lot about me, I think. - SPEAKING OF UNICORNS so I’ve been shopping around for supernatural RP boards to join when I have time (probably not til after this month), and I’ve narrowed it down to 2-3, but today I saw another and what really stuck out to me is that among the witches, vampires, and wereanimals was a custom playable species they called a re’em. These “re’em” are people who can  transform into a horse-like creature with one, two, or zero horns, and could choose either a warrior or healer powerset. So, basically, wereunicorns. And I just thought this was genius not simply because I love unicorns, but because. .  .ok, so you know how the King James translation (aka the worst one lol) of the Bible had unicorns in it? The word they translated as “unicorn” was “reem” or “re’em” Now, as it turns out, the word “re’em” actually most likely referred to an auroch, a massive breed of now-extinct wild cattle (of which I am also a fan) but for a long time, no one could figure out what it was. Rhinos, wild ox, white goats, and the beautiful Arabian oryx (seriously, look it up, it’s GORGEOUS) were all considered candidates for the mystery as well; some translations do use the oryx instead, though I personally prefer the auroch. . . and, I won’t lie, I really like the unicorn version best even though I know it’s only there because they just couldn’t figure out wtf this powerful horned animal could be.  But yeah so. . . having your unicorn-based shapeshifters call themselves re’em is honestly really clever (I’m guessing they decided just calling them unicorns/wereunicorns/etc sounded hokey?) I don’t think this is the board I’ll be joining but goddamn I do like that. Especially since it includes BOTH characterizations of unicorns in lore----vicious and wild vs peaceful healers. I personally like mine as gentle healer sorts but I love the research being shown here! -  I recently found out about a very obscure mythic beast from heraldry called the lampago. It's a tiger or lion with a human face. And I can see why it's so little known because. . .that's not scary? That is considerably LESS scary than a regular tiger or lion because it lacks the teeth that a predatory big cat has. I can see why the manticore took off a lot more; yes, it's a lion with the head of a man too, but ALSO the giant tail of a scorpion and three rows of large sharp teeth. That's fuckin scary. -  Fun fact: Nepotism means favoritism given to family members, such as a CEO appointing his son to a high position just because it's his kid. It comes from the Latin root "nepos" meaning nephew because many Catholic popes and bishops in the past gave preferential positions to their nephews (since, having taken vows of chastity, they didn't have sons, although it has been pointed out how some sure seemed to have a lot of "nephews" with no fathers in the picture. . . ) -  At the risk of sounding like I’m kinkshaming or harshing anyone’s preferences (I’m not, I get why people have this fantasy + why it’s appealing) whenever I see someone at a board placing a Want Ad for their character’s abusive ex/stalker/other figure who is generically evil and sexually obsessed with theirs. . .I kinda always wonder who they expect to respond? Not because it’s a “dark” character, I play plenty of villains, but because it’s a character by design meant to entirely revolve around theirs. And since it’s one-sided, with their character being the ever-pursued victim who doesn’t want this, the bad guy’s player inevitably (in my experience) is the one who has to do everything and push everything forward and all the victim’s player has to do is write woeful reactions. And the victim, of course, gets to be a fully fledged character with other stuff going on, but the intent of the villain is just to be 24/7 built around the victim. I’m sure it doesn’t ALWAYS turn out like that, just, that was my experience when I played those types of characters on occasion by the requests of my partners in the past (I don’t anymore) I wanted to make my partner happy and give them their fantasy, and they always told me how good I was at it, but I never enjoyed it. Besides finding it really squicky and uncomfortable for me, it was also so . . .unrewarding for the reasons mentioned, because I was doing all the work and my partner got all the pleasure. It just wasn’t any fun for me and felt like I was getting the short of the stick while they got off and now whenever I see people asking for this that’s all I can think of, like “I get why you want this, but who wants to be the OTHER half of it? What do YOU bring to the table for THEM?” which I think really someone should always ask in RP anyway.  -  Single ply toilet paper is for mice, not humans. It’s for nesting material. I can’t believe anyone thinks it’s for butt wiping. No way. -  Fun fact: Despite sounding like a suburban white hipster spelling of Kevin, the name “Kayvan” is in fact an unrelated Persian male name. It can be a first name, as with Kayvan Novak, or a last name as with Anthony Keyvan. - I kinda wanted to celebrate my Ukranian Slavic heritage this Halloween by dressing as a Byzantine woman or the Sultana Roxelana, but they don’t sell costumes like that and I’m too lazy to make one and like. .  .no one would get it anyway.

So this week I got Annoyed™ at Kara-Meir and Garlandia’s designs (Partially due to @enkoro-rs suggesting I do Kara-Meir, after which I fell down a rabbit hole). Like with the Laniakea overhaul I’m going to put my reasoning/inspo under the cut for anyone that’s interested

Honestly, where do I even start with Kara-Meir? I guess I’ll just go top-down, 

1) Hair - Based on the novel covers it seems like she was supposed to be blonde originally, and just have an absolute shit ton of hair. Since the flow of the in-game design’s braids didn’t make no goddamn sense, I found some ACTUAL braided bun hairstyles and combowombo’d them into one mega hairstyle.  The pins in the buns with the danglies are really just to be fancy, but I also wanted to incorporate the bits hanging off her belt in her in-game model’s concept art.

2) Skin/Face/Eyes - So originally I actually colour dropper her skin from the concept art and then realized she was maybe a bit tanner than the concept, but you know what? Fuck it. I tried to keep her face shape from the concept since the cover art of her is just kinda “Generic white lady” but honestly she got a bit pointier than that in the end. I’m also not sure what her canon eye colour is supposed to be; Zooming in on the ref just gave me brown, which is what I ended up using, but if that’s not correct and anyone has the novels let me know. 

3) Clothing - So I restrained her cape to something someone could maybe fight in, but my main concern was her armor - She’s supposed to be a knight but what’s up with the bikini boob breast plate? She’s portrayed as wearing both chain and full plate in the cover art and is clearly a melee fighter, so changing her to plate armor seemed obvious. Since she can wield Sunspear (t75) it makes sense to me that her Def would be somewhere in the 70s to match, which with the rework means necronium. 

So like, obviously Necronium is a particular aesthetic that didn’t seem quite right for her. Looking at her lore, she has a wolf theme in her backstory and since she's also supposed to have some smithing ability (she was raised by dwarves) I thought it'd make sense that she might make her own. She’s also been to Morytania in the books, meaning she could have access to Phasmatite (Her access to the Necrite is a bit more iffy but she is hanging out on Tuska after that event so she has at least some experience with the desert).  I had tried out the red glow initially but it looked like shite and didn’t really fit her anyway, so I think the gold is a better compromise both character-wise and aesthetically. 

4) Sunspear - So she canonically has a sunspear, and I ended up using the current in-game design for it since her concept art one just seemed... unstable 

I get that it’s reforged or whatever but it looks like it’s gonna shatter on impact with anything

Truthfully, though? You know what she should have? One of THESE bad boys:

AKA just a Grecian-style spear head. It’d also be more believable that she thinks it’s a dagger if it looks like this. I still think the in-game sunspear is a bit more ~dramatic~ but it should just be a spear tip quite frankly 

Okay, onto Garlandia: 

1) Hair/Face/Skin/Eyes - I’m grouping the hair in here since I honestly just left it as the in-game version (At least from what I can see from her chat head, I can’t remember if there’s some BS going on on her back or not).  Ancient Greek women did tend to braid their hair so that’s accurate-ish, I guess. For her skin though, she mentions in dialogue that “Her skin shed its colour”, but her model isn’t any paler than the other icyene in game. Accordingly, I made her significantly paler, and gave her a bit of frost bite damage on her extremities from the winter she had to endure after her wings were ripped off (I considered making it darker but there’s a point where they just need to be amputated since it won’t heal, so I went with something less intense to show that it’s healed since). For her eye colour, I zoomed in on her chat head but it wasn’t quite clear - 2/4 icyene in-game have blue eyes, but I went with gold to match the rest of her pallet. 

2) Clothes - This is a big one since I spent a lot of time staring at Greek art trying to figure out what a Greek-inspired character would wear when they never want to be cold ever again (It would make sense for her due to the trauma). Additionally, her skin is kinda fucked, and having it be uncovered would probably just lead to sunburn which is the last thing she needs. The shape of the middle woman’s chiton below inspired the hem of her dress, since I wanted to give her a very flowing, fashionable look:

I also turned her weird metal underpants into a girdle, since a waist band of some form or another isn’t uncommon in the images we have of ancient Greek attire: 

Garlandia, why did you have metal panties? 

Since she’s a bard (I THINK?) I also strapped on some extra storage for sheet music. Her jewelry was inspired by the following pieces, though TBH she could probably be decked out more, I just wanted to leave her hands mostly free for that good good harp playin’ 

3) Shoes - These get their own section because I did way too much research for it not to. Basically, most Greeks straight up didn’t wear shoes, never mind socks. Also, in her model, is it just me or do her shoes look uncomfortable as fuck??

Anyways, with her feet/toes being fucked up from frostbite, I wasn’t going to NOT give her shoes/socks, which meant I started looking at roman artifacts instead:

I found mention of romans wrapping their feet in fabric when it got cold, but the only “sock” I could find was from a roman fort in Britain:

So, like, needless to say after all that and also getting suckered into reading about the nuances of gladiatorial combat for like an hour I ended up going for something more modern:

So anyways they’re 0% accurate from what I could find but I like the vibe 

4) Himation - So remember what I was saying about how Garlandia would probably hate being cold? Check out these bad boys: 

Basically the ancient Grecian version of the Blanket Cape, and also used as outerwear in the winter! It seems like the winter ones would have been made from wool, I’d imagine she’d wear it most places except maybe the desert or Karamja since those are warm enough on their own.

March 9, 2021: Orpheus (1950) (Part One)

Greek mythology was my first mythological love.

And yes, that is ironically a very cliché thing to say about Greek mythology, since it’s by FAR the most popular and well-known mythology in the Western world, but...what can I say, I’m a sucker for the classics.

When I was 6, my mom got me a copy of the Odyssey, followed by D’Aulaire’s Book of Greek Myths, and that book was my SHIIIIIIIIIIT. From the Titanomachy to the Trojan War, from Decaulion to Daedalus, from the Lernaean Hydra to Ladon, and from Zeus to Dionysus (my second favorite Olympian), I LOVE Greek mythology.

There have been countless adaptations of these stories over the last century of so, some better and more faithful than others. We got Blood of Zeus (which I...genuinely dislike) on Netflix last year, Lore Olympus is a fantastic webcomic and modernized retelling of the universe of stories in general (fuck Apollo, that’s all I have to say), Hercules by Disney is fun (though extraordinarily inaccurate), and who doesn’t like some Percy Jackson (the books, not the movies)?

Today’s entry won’t be the first of the Greek mythology stories this month; after all, it’s DEFINITELY fantasy, so there were going to be a few entries in here. Some will come pretty close to each other later this month, but for this one, we’re jumping forward 10 years from The Thief of Bagdad to 1950. Let’s get back to France, shall we?

Famous for his adaptation of Beauty and the Beast is Jean Cocteau, legendary French surrealist filmmaker. His stylings definitely capture a sort of practical magic, compounded with clever angles and fascinating visual and practical effects. It’s evident with the classic fairy tale, which I would’ve done this month had I not already seen it. So, instead, we’ll be looking at the middle film in a trilogy known as Cocteau’s Orphic trilogy. This is, apparently, the most important one. And that makes sense, since it’s focused upon...

Is Hadestown good? I’m real tempted to find a way to watch it, and it sounds like it’s just up my alley. I’ll probably check it out one of these days.

Orpheus was (maybe) the son of Calliope, the muse of poetry, and Apollo, god of music. Maybe. Parentage differs based on the retelling. No matter the parents, he was renowned for his charm and grace, as well as his voice and music. He was loved by animals, nymphs, and maidens alike. He was invited to be the Bard of Jason’s DnD group (AKA the Argonauts), and used Bardic Performance to inspire his comrades (and also helped them overcome the sirens by singing EVEN LOUDER).

But the one whom he loved most was his wife, Eurydice. Unfortunately, a satyr (AKA horny horned half-goat man) chased her right into a viper’s nest, where she was bitten and died. Orpheus was CRUSHED, and his song was so depressing that even the gods cried. They said, “Dude, go to the Underworld, get back your lady from Hades, please!” And he did.

Hades, the old romantic that he secretly is, agrees to let Eurydice’s soul, on one condition. That he doesn’t look back at her as she follows him out. Orpheus agrees, but the man can’t stop himself from looking back to make sure that she’s there. And she was...and then she wasn’t. So, our sad boi fucked up, and then...well, it’s spotty. 

See, some people say that he stopped worshipping Dionysus (his previous patron), and the wine boi’s female followers tore Orpheus to pieces as punishment. Some say that these same women got a liiiiiiiiiittle too into the Bacchanalia (think orgies, but religious and violent), and ripped him apart in a frenzy. And some say that he only took male lover from then on, and women tore him to pieces for not paying attention to them (also, possible homophobia). You know, it varies. Still, we can agree on the ripped apart by women thing. His head could still sing, and as the women threw his body parts into a river, it sang a song so beautiful that the rocks and branches in the river refused to strike it. His instrument of choice, a lyre, was eventually interred amongst the stars as the constellation Lyra.

The story of a pained artist searching for a lost love and losing her is all over the goddamn place, with the crazy-ass Moulin Rouge being a solid example of it.

But OK, let’s finally begin Orpheus, or Orphée to be more accurate. Gonna be a weird ride, I guarantee it. SPOILERS AHEAD!!!

Recap (1/2)

The story starts with a recap of the original myth, and notes that it doesn’t need to be limited  by time and place. This sort of story, after all, could happen anywhere and at any time. And in this case, that time and place are 1950s-era France, where we quickly meet famous poet Orpheus (Jean Marais).

At a café, he meets a friend, the Editor (Henri Crémieux), where they speak on Orpheus’ fame, which is not well-liked in a cafe frequented by poets. Also arriving there is a young drunken poet, Jacques Cégeste (Édouard Dermit), who is accompanied by his patron, known only as...the Princess (María Casares). Come on, guys, can we give our female characters names, please?

Anyway, Jacques quickly gets into a drunken brawl with other patrons, which leads to the arrival of the police at the café. They forcefully arrest him, but before they can, he’s hit by a couple of motorcycles, and potentially killed. The police bring Jacques back to the Princess’ car, with the help of her driver Heurtebise (François Périer). For unknown reasons, she summons Orpheus to help them. He agrees, and goes with them to the hospital.

Or he would be, if they were going there. Instead, as they drive off, Orpheus discovers that Jacques is dead already. They aren’t going to the hospital. Instead, they head to a mysterious mansion, as ominous and oblique poetry plays on the radio. They’re soon accompanied by the men on the motorcycles that killed Jacques, who work for the Princess. The plot fuckin’ THICKENS.

Back at her mansion, they bring the body of Jacques upstairs, much to the confusion of Orpheus, whom the Princess keeps calling stupid whenever he asks questions. However, he’s not proving her wrong, as she immediately convinces him that she’s actually dreaming at the moment. Although...maybe he is?

She sits in front of a mirror, which breaks...somehow. Frustrated, she commands Orpheus to wait there for her to return, as she goes to check on Jacques and her men. Like me, Orpheus is confused. This gets worse for me, though, as the Princess goes to the other room and tells the dead Jacques to get up. AND HE DOES. Well, Jacques’ a zombie, I guess. He identifies the Princess as “his Death”, which she agrees to. She tells him to hold on to her coat, and then...

...I got questions. I GOT QUESTIONS HERE.

They go through the mirror, and the Princess’ henchmen follow, just as Orpheus walks in. He also has questions, and he tries to go through the mirror, to no avail. Completely confused at this point, he passes out against the mirror, alone in the mansion. And then...he’s outside.

Yeah, he’s just outside now, and waiting there is Heurtebise, the chauffeur! Orpheus is freakin’ out, and Heurtebise has no answers for him, but has been told to take him back to town once he...arrived. OK. Still questions.

In town, the disappearance of Orpheus is being discussed by a police inspector, his wife Eurydice (Marie Déa), and her friend Aglaonice (Juliette Gréco). Aglaonice doesn’t seem to like Orpheus very much, as she’s trying to convince Eurydice that he’s cheating on her. And that’s hard to argue, since he was last seen with the Princess. However, just as there’s about to be a scandal reported by a spontaneously appearing journalist, Heurtebise and Orpheus arrive home.

After a rough encounter with the journalist, he arrives home to a relieved Eurydice, and an enraged Aglaonice, whom Orpheus also dislikes heavily. He’s apparently forbidden her from entering his house, and tells her off. The Inspector leaves too, and asks Orpheus to come to his office to discuss the matter of the missing Jacques.

Eurydice reminds Orpheus that Aglaonice is dangerous, as she runs...the League of Women. Well...I think we know what role Aglaonice is going to play by the end of this. Her and her League of Bacchanalian Women, get me? Yikes. Anyway, the conversation turns into an argument, when the EXTREMELY ornery Orpheus basically just storms off, being a DICK to his poor wife. And when he goes upstairs to his room, he actually sneaks out of the window.

Meanwhile, Heurtebise comes into the house to offer an alibi to the pained Eurydice. While she doesn’t quite believe it, the two share some time together and seem to bond. However, when he smells gas from the stove, Heurtebise lets it slip that he committed suicide by using a gas stove. He covers it up before Eurydice notices the slip-up, but...OK. So, “the Princess” is death. Going by the traditional Greek myth, she’s some form of psychopomp, and the world beyond the mirror is the Underworld, I can only assume. OK...I can dig it.

Orpheus, meanwhile, is at the car, listening to the strange radio poetry and writing it down. The, uh, “Princess” is busy as well. Like a ghost, she walks into the household and watches Orpheus as he sleeps. A narration refers to her as Orpheus’ death. Funny, I’m pretty sure that’s going to be Aglaonice’s role.

Two days later, Orpheus is increasingly obsessed with the poetry from the mysterious radio and its odd messages. While Eurydice seems to mock this obsession, Orpheus also seems to be far too enraptured in it. But, interestingly, the messages seem to be coming from nowhere known. However, it’s all beginning to affect their marriage greatly.

On the phone, the Inspector comes calling, and Eurydice asks Heurtebise to answer the phone. He does so, and soon after, we see the phone float into place, as if placed there by a ghost. That’s confirmed as Heurtebise phases to the outside from nothing, where he meets Orpheus and informs him of the message. The two decide to head to the Inspector in his car, rather than the mysterious talking car.

While Orpheus goes through town, looking for the Princess rather than the Inspector, there’s something that I wanted to mention here. Call it an interpretation. Apparently, Heurtebise is often considered an angel by critics and interpreters. However, I’m gonna suggest that he’s actually supposed to be a representation of Hermes, the messenger god and a psychopomp who escorted souls to the Underworld. Not sure about the Princess yet, but Cocteau apparently never meant for her to be portrayed as actual death. Interesting.

Meanwhile, at the Inspector’s office, both Aglaonice and Orpheus’ poet friends (supposedly) are accusing Orpheus of being involved in Jacques’ disappearance. The Inspector turns them away, just as Heurtebise and Orpheus reconvene in town. While Orpheus didn’t find the Princess, Heurtebise says that she came by, saying that he could stay with the married couple for now.

Speaking of the Princess, we see her at night, staring over Orpheus. And her eyes are...strange. They seem artificial, and it bothers the EVER-LOVING SHIT out of me. And the whole affair isn’t helping Eurydice either, as she’s tired of Orpheus’ obsession with the car, and is planning on going to Aglaonice for advice. Heurtebise tries to stop her from doing so, but she insists. But when she goes...the motorcyclists come for her. And she’s dead. As proven when the Princess arrives through the mirror.

Alongside her comes Jacques, acting as the Princess’ servant. She notes to him that their work isn’t easy, and couldn’t be done if she were dressed in the way the humans portray her. So, she is seemingly Death, or at least an aspect of Death. Obviously, as we’re talking about the Greek story, we can assume that she’s meant to be Hades in particular. But, we’ll see. It’s also confirmed, by the way, that the mysterious messages are indeed Jacques’ poetry, recited by him on the radio waves from beyond the grave. Neat.

Heurtebise is clearly upset with what’s just happened to Eurydice. He asks if the Princess actually had orders to kill Eurydice. She avoids the question, and guesses correctly that Heurtebise has fallen in love with Eurydice. He confirms this, and counters with the fact that the Princess has seemingly fallen in love with ORPHEUS. The plot fucking THICKENS.

is your character considered strong in the fandom?  YES / NO / IDK. [ Personally, I have to say yes. Momotaro is strong as frick because in game, you’re supposed to level towns to “clean them up”. And this is in addition to the traditional Momotaro folktale that, a Momotaro is a strong child who can lift. However, most just look to Snow White as the strongest cuz she dented metal bare handed...and well is the “face” of the game.]

are they underrated?  YES / NO / IDK. [ This game is better known for having girls...with guns. But I wouldn’t say he’s really *that* underrated, considering the basic character is just that...basic. ]

were they relevant for the main story?  YES / NO. [ Well, my theory is that he just stumbled upon the fight between survivors and zombies so...kind of yes? Momotaro was one to actually gather folks to storm the castle as they say, because it seems before hand the other heroes were just minding their own business. So, being the one who talks the most (ironically) and the one that the game follows...yeah he’s relevant.]

were they relevant for the main character? YES / NO / THEY’RE THE PROTAG. [ Sadly so, in the sense that I wished the devs would’ve allowed for branching plots depending on which character you choose. This is including the fact that the game is purposely trying to emulate how old-school games were bare bones in characterizations and plot.]

are they widely known in their world? YES / NO. [ Just another folklore hero in the world of Wonderland...a place chock FULL of fairy tales and folktales. Though he might’ve garnered a reputation of being destructive after ZPiW... ]

how’s their reputation?  GOOD / BAD / neutral. [ ]

HOW STRICTLY DO YOU FOLLOW CANON?  —  Ehhhh...I think I make do with what I got from the teeny breadcrumbs of canon I got...however, many folks commented that Momotaro looks WAAAAAAY tougher than what I make him out to be so...I guess that’s a fail for following canon strictly on my part. .w.;; If I truly went 1:1, things may be bland...or not...I mean there’s as many subversions to the traditional heroes as there are well, the typical shounen stuff.

But hey, if you guys want a lad who’s adorable but tough...you could look elsewhere...or you can find that in Momo! I wanted to try to represent some stuff of special needs, but I’m still working out the kinks...but the kid’s loyal, and a very good cook at that! He definitely needs a confidence booster, but could that be part of his charm? Maybe. But hey, I think y’all might really like the idea I got for him, and mainly Smash! Like, have you ever wondered what goes on in that mansion? ...well yes, but what about those who aren’t fighters? Or even assist trophies! That’s where the smash verse comes in! Take a peek into the (tough) lives of Waddle Dees and the peach boy, along with other creatures not suitable for Smash! They’re just as handy for making sure the place is well run and fed! If someone isn’t cleaning and cooking to maintain 70+ fighters, and 20+ assist trophies...who is?

NOW THE OPPOSITE, LIST EVERYTHING WHY YOUR MUSE COULD NOT BE SO INTERESTING (EVEN IF YOU MAY NOT AGREE, WHAT DOES THE FANDOM PERHAPS THINK?).  —  This is a character from a game whose designers may appreciate the female figure a bit too much. I always have a tough time recommending this game to others, and hell, I’m terrible at playing it myself. Hell, the fact that most of the characters are minors is just a...”why do you design them like this Bo.mi” thing. Most do seem to think highly of those designs though, as that’s the main aspect of the game I keep hearing in my searches. Now, I’ve received a good amount of concerns over the years that Momotaro not speaking proper English is either racist or babyish...or both. Is my take too depressing? There are often times I think yes, and feel unbelievable shame over it despite others going hard on the angst train.

WHAT INSPIRED YOU TO RP YOUR MUSE?  —  Well uh, I believe I was charmed by his rugged but baby appearance in the game..and it just so happen at the time that I was part of a budding rp group. Despite the theme being mostly “OUENDAN”, that was the start of me shoving Momotaro into every fuckin’ thing because he’s cute as shit and obscure muses can be fun too! It was also probably relaxing for me because gosh dang back then I was scared of getting something wrong about someone canon with more lore...and I am still scared about that to this day.

WHAT KEEPS YOUR INSPIRATION GOING?  —  Studying about Japanese culture, learning the language...the fact that I’ve been rping him for almost 10 years (read like 8-9 at this point)...I do wonder if I should stop rping him...and then I keep hearing that people only want characters only in as fighters, fighters are the only important thing about smash and that grows my weird spite and just continue this “backstage” plot of Smash. Yes, getting a franchise in as a fighter is a VERY high commemoration but, I think it’s just as equally amazing when a franchise gets in as an assist trophy or even a spirit/trophy! So yeah it’s petty and I better find some other motivation soon because it’s exhausting.

do you think you give your character justice?  yes / NO / I SINCERELY HOPE I DO? [ Ahaha....I’m starting to give up on that idea at this point, as several noted that Momotaro isn’t as timid in canon as I write him. But I do try to keep those boneheaded traits of the peach boy in my portrayal. ]

do you frequently write headcanons?  YES / NO / SORT OF? [ It’s a must for Momotaro, whose game is a tribute to how the old timey arcade games didn’t have much to their plots. Otherwise, I would think that playing him would end up pretty dry..whether I play him closer to canon or not. ]

But that’s a pipe dream. Coruse the only headcanon I will never take (that I fear the fandom will have due to perverted nature) is that he’s just a fuckin harem protag wanting to get into pants. To that I say: NO. In canon he doesn’t give a fuck about the fact his teammates are girls...or even acknowledges that they're girls. It’s the time to survive, not boogie on beds...or at a tree.

My TUA Multiverse Headcanon

Okay I know this is completely impossible and some utter BS but I've got this wild headcanon that all of the Hargreeves children were taken from other dimensions (aka. fictional universes), which would explain why they're the only people in their dimension with superpowers as of right now.

Also, fair warning, I've only seen the TV show and have limited to no knowledge of the TUA comic book lore, but I do hope to change that soon.

Here's what I've got so far:

Five is a relative of a superhero (or two) from DC Universe

It makes sense that he's related to Bruce Wayne, somehow. Hair as dark as his disposition and an ego beyond his years? Reminds me a lot of Damian Wayne, which could lead to the theory that he's another illegitimate part of the Wayne bloodline or a future child of one of Wayne's sons, but his mother sold him to Hargreeves before they had the chance to resolve anything. As for his powers, it's been shown in this universe that powers are either genetic or gained through an external source, and not randomly. That would mean his mother was a time/space traveler too, which would lead into the only possible woman in this universe who could possibly be the mother: Raven of the Teen Titans. Raven could be the sole hero parent of Five because all of his power clearly comes from her, but his appearance is just too close to that of a Bat-child to pass over.

Klaus and Allison (and every kid?) have the Shining from the Stephen King universe

The Shining is a widely ambiguous power seen in various Stephen King movies and novels, such as The Shining (duh) and its more recent sequel Doctor Sleep. Klaus has all the typical symptoms of this ability, and most intensely his communication with the dead, which is the main power of those who Shine. However, it was revealed in Doctor Sleep that it can take other forms, such as mind control and telekinesis, hence my theory that Allison's "rumors" are her manifestation of the Shining.

However, these are the only powers gained through the Shining that we've been SHOWN. And, in Doctor Sleep, Dan Torrance says that the Shining manifests itself differently for everybody and in varying degrees of power ranging from the mundane (always acing tests you didn't study for) to the extreme (communication with the dead). So, in theory, all of the Hargreeves children could have differing and powerful iterations of the Shining, which would also explain why the 400-something other kids who didn't get adopted by Hargreeves aren't making national news: they DO have the Shining, just not as strong as The Seven, or not as focused upon so their powers didn't develop in the same way.

Luther is Booster Gold's son from DC Universe

I mean, blonde hair and super strength? Classic superhero stereotype. That's Booster Gold, and that's Luther. Luther could've had a normal mother, which would explain him only having a limited amount of Carter's abilities, or even just his enhanced strength. I think this one kind of speaks for itself.

Diego is the son of Bullseye from Marvel Comics

Okay, here's the qualms I have with Marvel: the aquisition process of powers in this universe is fuckin whack. Sometimes it's genetic, sometimes it's an external source, sometimes it's completely random with no given explanation, and it varies from character to character. Given that Bullseye has no children and barely an origin story, I have absolutely no clue how he got his abilities, but then again, neither does Diego, so I'm gonna pull the benefit of the doubt on this one and call it a genetically passed ability and Diego got his skill with projectiles from his dad.

Ben and Vanya are mutants from Marvel

I know this is kind of a "lazy" analysis of their characters, but their powers are genuinely unique in the sense that I could really find no other straightforward way that their powers could have manifested.

shadowrealms incident report: the Shadows

welcome to Spotlight Investigations, where leo has to go look at the post he made when this shit first happened!

note: this is heavily abridged, check out @green-t-ea​‘s recaps for full records of each event!

back when Shadowrealms was still a java realm, there would be sightings of shadows from various points in the timeline of the Shadow People AU. they would show up for a short period of time, then return back to the Hermitcraft server they originated from. due to the shadow update being an unspecified future update (jokingly called 1.1[_] by Leo), and the realm & server running on 1.14, they don’t render properly and instead appear as completely invisible except for their particles.

so far they haven’t meant us any harm. unfortunately the initial shadow visits was before we played on shadowrealms, so we don’t have any screenshots, but we know enough to provide a vague summary and we were present for the two most recent ones, where a lot of lore behind what’s happening was explained.

Visit 1: Jigsaw & Abyss

Jigsaw logged on, startled everyone, and was ominous about wanting to play a “game” with the beacons (with implications of it being lethal):

[ <Jigsaw> Hmm, no. It’s the one where I come find you! ]

before he could do anything, though, Abyss logged on and Jigsaw fled back to the Hermitcraft server:

[ * Abyss joined the game <Peppered_Fox> oh no * pyritefish has made the advancement [Into Fire] <Jigsaw> Uh oh <Abyss> There you are. Wrong server Jigsaw <Jigsaw> Catch me if you can! * Jigsaw left the game ]

Abyss acknowledged the beacons, then left.

Visit 2: Shadoc

Shadoc appeared, was incredibly confused about a “strange portal” he’d gone through and where he’d ended up, and left shortly after.

Visit 3: Jigsaw

Jigsaw got in an argument with Ardent because honestly Ardent is just kinda like that.

apparently Abyss didn’t do a good job of catching Jigsaw:

Green managed to strike up a conversation with him about building styles, with Jigsaw appreciating Green’s base (including saying NPC would like it, awwh). turns out Jigsaw’s favourite kind of wood is spruce? and he also likes Dark Souls

when Green mentioned that they have a cat named Puzzler, Jigsaw got spooked and assumed Puzzler himself was around on the server. Ardent bullied him a bit more, then Green had to go.

worth noting that Jigsaw was rather well-behaved this time, probably because of Green distracting him with something he likes that isn’t, like, torture

his reaction to Puzzler means that he’s from Season 7, aka Abandoned Shadows, so that’s interesting.

Visit 4: Shadoc

(note: those screenshots are unrelated BUT they are hilarious considering Shay said that like a minute before Shadoc logged in)

we wrote a full report on this so here’s an even MORE abridged version!

Shadoc logs in and is initially worried that he’s intruding on stuff (while Shay fucking books it to spawn because he was wandering around trying to find the Orchid base), but the beacons reassure him that no, it’s fine, we love you

Sky follows up with him on the “strange portal” he mentioned:

[ <Shadoc> Yeah! So, the portal is suppose to lead to the next server I guess? But it keeps leading here ]

unlike Jigsaw, Shadoc is from Season 6. he’s roughly around the start of Abandoned Shadows: the hermits have moved seasons, and everyone is trying to figure out how to follow. the season portal is a bit busted, though, and while it isnt really confirmed what the problem is in Abandoned Shadows itself (in our own take on plot stuff, we figured it just... didn’t Work) in Shadowrealms it... apparently leads to Shadowrealms?

Shadoc confirms that Jigsaw went through the portal and hasn’t returned to S6, and that the first shadow through was supposed to come back and help everyone else cross over:

[ <Shadoc> Once one of us made it over, they were supposed to come back for the others ]

we theorized that the realm may be acting as a sort of buffer for the shadows to pass through between seasons, although that doesn’t explain why Jigsaw hasn’t come back to S6 like he was supposed to. the name of the realm + spawn being a shadow temple might be a factor in the interference, but no confirmation yet

after a good amount of shenanigans, Shadoc left with the hopes that he’d be able to get back to S6.

the realm ran into some issues due to having a 10-player cap and there being a lot of beacons trying to get online for the visit, so Ash upgraded it to a server. after that, we had encounters with the Watchers and with Herobrine, but no signs of any of the shadows.

Green and Shay built a huge flower garden & treehouse for if Shadoc returned, seeing as so many beacons donated flowers for him. it’s also now Shay’s favourite location at spawn and he’s usually up there if he’s not at his base, Orchid, or mining

Visit 5: Shadoc & Jigsaw

after several days of no activity from the shadows, and some concern that the Watchers and/or the server upgrade were responsible, Shadoc and Jigsaw logged on and immediately got into an argument.

[ <Shadoc> B-but, you left us! We waited for you to come back and you never did.. <Jigsaw> Do you really think I had a choice? ]

Jigsaw arrived in S7, as we’d already known, but had run into Abyss. after his second visit to the Shadowrealms, Abyss started guarding the portal to stay on watch for the other S6 shadows, but also to prevent any of the shadows from S7 to make it back i think? Jigsaw said that Abyss had gotten distracted by another shadow crossing over and that was how he was able to show up at shadowrealms again

after Jigsaw went missing from S6, Shadoc had followed him through the portal. as explained in Visit 4, he ended up here, we learned stuff from him, and he went back. he made it back to S6, rather than crossing to S7 like Jigsaw did

[ <Shadoc> When I went back everyone was in shock <Shadoc> They thought I had left them, just like you. I explained the world I had seen to them ]

Shadoc told all of the S6 shadows about shadowrealms and the beacons, seeing as he was the only one on S6 that knew anything about the other side of the portal bc of Jigsaw’s disappearance

[ <Shadoc> After that visit, Apex decided he wanted to see the people for himself ]

(shay: oh shit)

[ <Shadoc> We couldn’t stop him from going through..he didn’t come back ]

Apex made it to S7, and was the distraction that allowed Jigsaw to return to shadowrealms. interestingly, Apex wasn’t spotted on the server, so it’s possible he either passed through when no one was online / everyone was AFKing, or he found a way to bypass. honestly im a little relieved because i would NOT survive an encounter with apex and im not sure hed play by the “dont stab shay” rule

after Apex disappeared, Murmur got extremely protective of Shadoc and wasn’t going to let him go through the portal again in case he got left behind, and... well. Shadoc did anyway. ):

[ <Jigsaw> I’m going to leave before Abyss comes back. I don’t think you’d like meeting him. <Jigsaw> Goodbye Shadoc. Thank you for your information. ]

[ <Shadoc> N-no, wa-ait! <GreenTea64> ssshhhhhh * Jigsaw left the game ]

at which point all of the beacons that had been listening in immediately scrambled to comfort Shadoc and make sure he was okay. Shadoc has no idea why Jigsaw is being like this and honestly neither do we? but it seems like he’s trying to avoid Abyss coming to either Shadowrealms or S6.

Shadoc wasn’t able to stay long because he didn’t want to worry anyone if they noticed he was gone, but he was around long enough to get a tour of spawn + the garden&treehouse, which he liked (and Shay cried a little)

it turns out anything from Shadowrealms isn’t able to be brought back to S6, so unfortunately Shadoc wasn’t able to bring his armor & flowers back with him... and it’s presumed impossible for the beacons to try and make the jump as well because of that. Shadoc still had his orange armor once he was on the server though! which was a pleasant surprise

he’s apparently going to hug Murmur for us and you can definitely guess which emoji Shay was feeling (it’s :keralisweep: )

Shay promised to investigate the shadow appearances & what’s causing them, and Shadoc returned to S6.

Visit 6: From, Shadoc

this is a very interesting update and it was hard for Leo to get himself to go to sleep last night because Shay was so excited and wanted to update the report at 2 am

it’s also a very unique update because, for once, none of this happened on Shadowrealms. or, at least, not the Shadowrealms minecraft server.

after the Watcher sightings at Inari Empire on 11/24, Shay and Leo logged off to take a break and were chatting in the discord when Ash, the server admin, sent a surprising message.

so basically Shadoc (and maybe the other shadows, if Admin gives them access?) are able to communicate with the beacons through Ash without being present on the server itself! Leo described it as being like “an interdimensional dropbox”.

Mkay so these names are rooted in Greek and Roman Mythology so this leads me to believe that the author did not come up with these names by themself

seeing u post about choices made me realize how long it’s been since I played anything on there! So what books and series would you recommend and why?

Hhuhuhuhuhu  i am glad you asked. To be quite honest with you while there is a god tier book going on, choices is....getting worst on some new books. But the good news is that they make great diamond mines (especially since you can have 3 diamonds by chapter instead of 1 by chapter now)

Okay so, the first and most recent book that i will recommend you is Blades of Light and Shadows. This book seriously, is so so fucking good, every chapter is quality and the world is awesome. It’s a fantasy world (orcs, elfs, humans, magical creature darkness etc..) where you can choose what races your Character is and what skills they can have at first, like arc,sword, deception, seduction, friends to beast, etc. The best is that you can get more skills as you gain xp. The lore, the world, and by god the LIs, they’re all just perfect. It’s the kind of gang/founded family trope everyone wants, its beautiful and they all have great interactions between each other and complement each other so well.

I’m gonna stop cos i’m just gonna ramble about this book at this point, but seriously if there’s one book where its worth it to spend all your diamonds on, it’s absolutely Blades.

Now I don’t know how long its been since you have played choices so I’ll recommend every “recent” book i consider great in this app :

- Distant Shores : I’m not really sure to be fair, I have barely played the book (cos im more focus on blades and im keeping diamonds for it), but its a pirate story and you can have gay pirate romance. The big well, bad point i would say, is that the MC come from “the modern world” aka our time, and idk a lot of people agreed it would have been more interesting/less cliche if done differently. But so far so good i think

-The Elementalist : Man that book, its like......I guess the best to describe it is that it’s like a mix between Harry Potter and Twitches (and if you haven’t watched Twitches you definitely should, its a very fun movie with witches). Full of magic and magic schools stuff and elements. Unfortunatly its far from perfect cos you have SOME love interest that are VERY prioritized over others 😒😒😒 (read Beckett), but its still sweet, funny, with lovable characters and fuckin Shreya that kinda reminded me of Weiss on some part so you can guess why she’s my favorite oiezajzfazf

-Endless Summer : It’s...well, It’s very complicated to be honest, and as someone who barely had any diamonds when it was on going, its hard to understand some of the things happening in the plot if you dont pay up. But the story is really, the characters are touching, the main character too! It’s a good mystery...fanstastic...sci-fi (?) book. There’s four LI’s and i have to say that one of the reason i love this book is for one of them (aka Estela). Endless Summer is a great book, even if frustrating when you don’t have diamonds.

-The Heist : Monaco. Do you want to build a crew of thief to organize cool heists, while also getting chased by a hot af woman ? I mean there’s more to that book to be quite honest but Sonia’s yearning after the MC and handcuffing her is all I remember zoiejfezoijgrzaf.

-Veil of Secrets : Getting invited to your best friend wedding, you ends up caught in a murder mystery and well, a whole lot of mysteries to be honest. It’s a pretty good mystery book, and you can sweep in and get with your best friend in the end which is pretty sweet to me uwu.

- Hero : Uuugh this one, I loved this book a whole lot, like a lot. It’s the classic “accident happen, weird magic aliens rayons happen and bam superpowers and super heroes” but that’s pretty much the only book like that. Also Eva, the only woman love interest, who has a Catwoman/Batman relationship wth the main character, its lot of sexual tension and thats great.

Annnd...thats the few ones i can think of, I know some books here and there that i liked but wouldn’t recommend cos objectively they’re not very good oezjaoijrg. Also other books ive seen recommended are Open Heart or Mother of the Year that are pretty popular but I personally haven’t played them and idk im not a fan of the concept of these books but you should still give it a try if you’re curious.

It's been slowly 2 since I haven't touched my novel aka didn't continue writing it. And you know what?

Instead of being like "I suck so much" and "what a fuckin useless shit I am", I'm actually glad about it. At that time i had a rushed idea and concept of things in the novel both in "lore" and in ideas.

After two years and constant day dreaming about my novel, I feel like time helped me to fleshen out the details and certain concepts in my head. It's more stable and less "confusing" in some sense.

I got more ideas about creatures, how they fit in and such, traditions and certain customs or even visual ideas for structures.

So instead of rushingly writing something, I happened to take time (a lot imo) and now I don't feel sad, but instead more uhm... "hyped" to continue it some day and rewrite the very start so basically everything i have written so far.

I just hate the thing that I wish people would ask more about this novel, but how could they if it's not even written xD

Oh boy I just so wanna write this one day and finish it and so so so wish to make it into a book. A special book!
