Forgive me if this is rude or disrespectful I really don't mean it to be! I'm completely new to this blog and it's contents but I'm curious. Would, hypothetically, a healthy thing someone with NPD could do be to recognise their disorder and take healthy steps to assure they don't accidentally hurt anyone, or get hurt themselves? Like.. would that be possible for someone with NPD? Again sorry if this is uneducated of me. I'd consider myself vulnerable so.. idk it'd be cool to know if it's possible for me and a NPD person to have a healthy relationship. Also I've just realised this ask is all over the place sorry! 😅

People with NPD can absolutely have healthy relationships! I (npd) actually just celebrated my 11th anniversary with my wife (npd and bpd) yesterday. But as with any neurodivergence, there are adjustments you need to make.

First of all, communicate! It can be hard for pwNPD (people with npd) to know how you are feeling, or even remember that you’re feeling something different from them. Make sure to be clear about your emotional state. My wife would check in daily (at least) to see how i was feeling, because i never realized that i was really bad at talking about (or even recognizing) my own emotions. This helped them know i wasn’t mad at them, and me learn how to express myself in a clear way.

Understand that pwNPD often have very fragile self esteem. Compliments are HUGE for us, and mean a whole lot. Meanwhile, it can be tough for us to take criticism or be in the wrong about something. This doesn’t mean we should be allowed to get away with harmful behavior, but that it’s important to have these discussions in a constructive manner. I really like the “sandwich” method, where you say something positive, note your criticism, then say something else positive or reiterate the positive thing you said before.

Ex: “I’m so happy you found a game you really like! I was hurt when it seemed like you were paying more attention to the game than me when i was trying to tell you something important. But I’d love to play it with you after we chat!”

This is actually just general people-skills advice, but it is especially helpful when the person you’re talking to struggles to understand the perspectives of other people.

Another bit of general relationship advice that has really helped my marriage: never go to bed angry at your partner. You can take a break to calm down, you can take a nap or a shower or just go into another room until you’re ready to talk again. But you shouldn’t let your feelings simmer or develop into a grudge. It’s really important to communicate with your partner no matter whether they’re neurotypical or not, but it’s crucial when you’re interacting with people whose brains work very differently than your own.

This started out as just saying Ella's dislike towards Will makes so much sense and then I just went the fuck off 😭 about an idea for an AU. So I apologize this shit long but also I'd wanna hear about AUs people thought up for my shit so why not send my own ideas to others about their shit right?

I always liked the idea of an AU where when Meatbag first took Ellas...cage(?) Will actually Caught his ass and instead of ratting him out to LJ or something tagged along because bro wanted to get out of there too and he seems like he wouldn't really be okay with how LJ treated her if he was aware of it.

(also I'd imagine him not saying anything much about it because either fear or just he might have mentioned it in a very passive way and LJ didn't listen or even laughed it off seems on brand. Least based on the impression of em I've gotten).

I think it'd be interesting though too just because of how different Ella Meatbag and Wills experiences are as far as toxic "relationships" what with Ella being the worst end of LJs abusive nature and Will being the person he probably treated best and yet that STILL wouldn't be a healthy relationship.

Also the potential of Will and Meatbag being friends seems really cool to me? Like idk if they would ACTUALLY get along but I'd imagine Will probably wouldn't be able to just go back to human society. I mean I'd imagine people would think he was dead and all his family is dead he wouldn't have anyone there. (I guess he could he'd just be lonely as fuck and it would be hard as hell) But meatbag is one of few people in the underworld who's a well intentioned good person (along with Frankie It seems)

I feel like Will could Sympathize with Meatbag and the fact that he can't live a normal life and it's because of someone else that he SHOULD HAVE been able to trust fucking up his whole life. I think it's a potential for him to develop another relationship that's platonic (if I remember right he had trouble with platonic relationships specifically not being used to them or something along those lines) I could see them even potentially developing a sorta sibling like bond even because Meatbag as a person is kinda cool as shit?? And ain't no way Will wouldn't recognize that! Especially after seeing how he deals with Ella going beast mode. Like bro spent all night trying not to die in a truck in the woods fearing for his life from this monstrous ass wolf woman and the first thing he does in the morning is get her a happymeal??? 😭

The fact he could keep them alive in the first place is impressive but then for him to still treat Ella like a person Id think from Wills perspective would be different just cause I'd imagine he'd be around mostly people who wouldn't be nice to someone after they just tried to kill them REGARDLESS of a case like Ella's where it's not really their fault. Also Will could use a positive familial relationship after LJ.

I feel like it'd take AGES for Ella to be comfortable around will and NOT wanna kill him. I mean the fact he DIDN'T tell LJ might help but even then I could see there being some distrust and paranoia that he's just making it easier for LJ to find them or something. Ella would have to do a lot of Healing I'd imagine before she'd even wanna know what Wills situation was. I remember her getting upset with Meatbag when his backstory came up so I'd imagine with Will that shit would make her VIOLENT but if wills not aware of what she's been through it could be another reason for him to want to distance himself from LJ and maybe even if in the events that he DID find them he'd actually do more to try and keep LJ from just dragging both of them back. But that's again if he's unaware of how LJ treats Ella.

Okay not only is it insane to know someone thought so deeply of my characters but also. I have had Meatbag and Ella for YEARS and somehow I never thought of Will interacting with Meatbag AT ALL! But this is actually such a good AU idea! To respond to some points: Will knows exactly how LJ's treated because not only did he make Will watch whenever he put her in a pit with some other monster to fight for entertainment, he's also used her as a test dummy for examples to 'where to strike to kill a person'. He def did NOT like a second of it bc killing people is one thing but that crossed a line in his brain. I think Will and Meatbag could be friends but not close friends. He'd probably find it iffy Will didn't try to leave LJ sooner, but then again... he'd be a hypocrite if he said that aloud. Both would be mutually glad about the other tho, simply bc they are mostly decent people who don't want to kill eachother. But yeah Will would be astounded by the fact Meatbag didn't leave Ella the first time she tried to rip him to shreds bc remember, Ella also attacked Meatbag the first time they met bc she didn't trust him. The trust probably would be a lot less w/ Will around, but she's slowly come around. It'd def take like. A whole year or more for her to 'forgive' Will, but she'd probably be on non-biting terms after a few months. Especially if he started talking abt the shit LJ's done to his life. Prior that... Meatbag would have to keep an eye on her to make sure she didn't make a meal out of Will lol But yes I am very glad to attend this TED talk because!!! gRRAGh!!!

It's hard to be my (girl)friend... (GIS Day edition)

Yesterday was GIS day and W went representing her organization which meant she was expected to tell her group what she saw/what she learned, stuff like that. Real show-and-tell stuff.

She has 2 co-workers who recently went to different things, and one basically just said "It was fine," while the other gave a detailed long interactive multi-media presentation.

Here were my helpful tips on what W should talk about when she asked me late last night:

How loud it was.

How badly spaced it was.

Lack of ADA

Traffic sucks

Parking sucks

Out of order machines suck

Most maps people make are ugly maps and they should feel sad

That was the first batch. It was insanely loud in the booth area so no one could actually talk or hear or function. It was insane. There was no way anyone in a wheelchair could participate, the ramps were actually blocked to the stage/seating area!!! Traffic was... a bitch, parking was insane and pricey, and the pay machines didn't even work! The last point... well they had a map gallery and honestly, most of them were awful. Just straight up ugly as fuck and lacking basic information.

W's was nice though.

What did I learn? Parking is expensive

Parking was $20... that's a lot. But it was funny how many people knew her from her linkedin posts, and many recognized her face, even with a mask on, others saw her name tag and knew who she was. She's an influencer you know :)

Things to talk about: Crazy ladies and their scarfs

This was an OOF! My crazy magnet went off hardcore with this one lol. W commented on the ladies pretty map scarf, and it got us sucked into the weirdest 5 minutes of the day. She was rambling about this and that and all sorts of strange shit, but the kicker was that she "HAS A PERFECT MEMORY!!!" and never forgets a face or voice and she remembers mine from last year and what we talked about and this and that, and especially how perfect her memory is that it's also a curse because she can never forget any of the bad stuff too and on and on and on.... thing is... we didn't go last year. I've never gone before at all. We just politely nodded and tried to get the fuck away lol... oof.

Things I learned: my dress is longer than I thought it was!!!! And it's ok to wear leggings under it

It was super cold in the morning, and I had no idea if it'd get warmer so I suggested she wear leggings under her dress and she fought me a bit on it because it wouldn't look cute... until she tried it out and realized OH... it is warm and still cute! She even said that she could have sworn the dress only went to her thighs, but no, this thing is almost ankle length lol.

What did I learn? I have to write "I will not wander off" 300 times in the blackboard

This was a not so good moment yesterday. When W talked to people, and she talked to a lot of them, I stood near her, always in sight and within reach. The moment I stopped to talk to someone, she waited until I was fully involved and then toddled off FAR and out of sight and had her phone on silent as well. That was NOT cool, and NOT acceptable. This was at a public park with a large amount of unhoused people who would wander in and out of the event, so when I realized she was gone, and I couldn't find her anywhere I looked, and she didn't answer her phone... I got worried. It was quite a bit before she decided to walk back from where she was. She didn't say anything, didn't let me know... she was just GONE. That was NOT ok. She's not a child, and I don't treat her as one, which is why I expect better... I don't need to hold her hand 24/7 or know where she is at all times, but a quick hey, I'll be over there, or a knock on my arm and a head tilt to let me know she's going to go exploring...all fine... but to just disappear... not ok.

And that folks, were all of my helpful answers to W's question of what should I tell my coworkers and boss about the event yesterday????

Yesterday's modding session got me pretty frustrated, I wasted so much time and was feeling overall pretty shit. Woke up feeling a bit violent, so to calm my nerves and get some serotonin I decided to check some old posts of mine over my old blog @pinkydude

NOW For more context; one thing I loved to do back in the day was to share some of Pawel's streams, pics and videos in majority.

A lot of people didn't liked his streams mainly because of "the favoritism"; the Sasko Sunday streams became an habit for a lot of us, watching him for literal years, he recognized our names and we had "inside jokes" in streams with the community there. You can see why some people felt jealous and became nasty about it.

There's a lot to be said about people feeling "left out" of something they don't even willingly participate in, the streams were always public and anyone could join at anytime they'd want to, but I disgress.

His streams were always really interactive; we would ask questions about the story, the characters, and Pawel would reply and give us insight, BTS infos, hints and other cool crumbs!

Pawel eventualy had to stop most of his interaction with the community because he was being HARASSED by SOME PEOPLE on Twitter openly tagging him about his "favoritism" and even sending letters to HQ complaining about it.

Back to my old flagged blog; We can't search up tags on flagged blogs, it becomes really hard to look up for anything there, we can't access the archives either Friendo gave me this tip months ago; if you have a pinned post, simply add tags to it and you'll be able to click them, like a lite "search box"

So that's what I did this morning, in bed, on my lil phone, adding "pawel sasko" to my pinned to go through my old stream posts!

The fact the all-valley drama is about mats and the new blue and gold won. Daniel stay with these people. Their drama is very normal.

Johnny like drunk crying about Daniel becoming Robby's father and is just like 'we're all going to die' is actually kind of funny of a dramatic response. I mean he didn't do a one up this time. He just sort of got sad.

probably night shift, just because i feel like dong sik and jae yi don't get a lot of appreciation so i always focus a lot more whenever i'm writing their interactions.

so this is actually an excellent time for me to plug the moment that like. i'm currently writing a daisy jones & the six au of sorts for beyond evil crew--but it feels less like it's based off something just because dong sik did want to pursue music, so! it still feels like a tribute to that path somehow, except now dong sik actually wound up doing music and roping his friends into a band, plus yu yeon's alive and doing the keys, and now for some reason, sang bae (who is a producer in this au) is like "hey btw. you are going to include this random soloist now. no i am not going to explain myself. i think you need him and he needs you though."

and even though like. this all takes place in korea, i feel like i might include some interesting cameo where like. maybe dong sik and billy dunne cross paths / joo won and daisy jones cross paths, just because haha i think it's funny that they have some initials in common--and not that billy dunne and daisy jones have too similar personalities to dong sik and joo won, i think there might be some common ground between them (ie. billy dunne and dong sik are both very charismatic people and very deeply loving of the people around them, but also i think they both feel broken very deep down, except they might be more in denial about it than anything else--and while i think billy dunne is absolutely more selfish than dong sik ever could be, i do think they might be able to relate to each other in like. "i have to make up for the fact that i wasn't good to my family" somehow, because even in this au, lol, i'm giving dong sik MORE PROBLEMS . . . and alternatively, daisy jones and joo won are both incredibly prideful and maybe a little bit oblivious about how easily they get people's attention, but also, i think they have incredibly addictive personalities and that kind of obsessive "i can do it better" attitude that either makes them great or spiral).

this has gotten incredibly long, but all that to say: i think it'd be cool for them to run into each other in their respective brooding sessions. okay, so now, given more context of PLA, we know that it was... well, whaddya know, giratina and volo. i think the way they did it was really cool, and it gives giratina a good reason to kind of become morally grey Itself (which cynthia mentions in pokemon masters, that it may not be as evil as people think) as like, it was exploited by volo and doesn't trust people to use its power BUT i honestly thought we were going to go as far back as seeing what caused giratina to be banished to the distortion world. Expanding on that, I thought it'd be neat to have arceus be morally grey, and giratina be tragic in a different way than what we now know and i do honestly recognize that this goes like, literally against arceus sending us to the past. so yes, this AU is within the context that we are Just Someone From Hisui. it also goes with the assumption of uh, hisui being the entire world practically lol. but my newer take on this is that

Arceus created humans and pokemon, but it feared what might happen if they interact. It stayed secluded on mt. coronet, where no one had ever ventured... and it would watch over its creations proudly. but it was afraid... people and pokemon both seemed very powerful in their own rights, and it ... loved them both, but wanted them to stay far apart, after seeing that people were starting to become close to pokemon. it didn't believe that co-existence could happen smoothly, without one ruining the world for the other. that people would abuse pokemon, or that people would get hurt by pokemon. arceus did not like either of these possibilities. like arceus being like "it seems they are starting to interact… but will the peace keep up? i know what my creations are capable of" so, it wanted to scare people from interacting with them. but it could not bear to do this itself... and tasked Giratina with using its dark powers to frenzy the most significant and powerful pokemon that people had begun to get close to. Giratina may have been powerful, but it was unsure about this. Nonetheless, arceus commanded that it must. ... later down the line, perhaps after the main story of the gameplay of PLA, arceus realizes that all it did was cause unnecessary harm and fear through its plan. and... it blames this on giratina using its power too strongly. It threatens / prepares to banish giratina to the distortion world, a cold and lonely, distorted realm... a realm of punishment We confront it for causing what it did, and it... almost shifts the blame to Giratina. What does Arceus do when confronted by us mere few humans about this? It understands, and recognizes its error. That it had no reason to worry, that it should've just let people and pokemon come to interact... that things would work out over time, as they clearly have been shown to be able to work out (us playing the game)

And it apologizes to giratina, something along the lines of like. well, heres something i wrote back last year. an exchange between arceus and giratina "I apologize for using you to enact my unnecessary cruelty upon the nobles. It was out of concern for both people and pokemon, fearing misuse or worse-- I realize now that you were simply obeying, and made no error. You are no longer banished"

"No. I get it. I see now, my true error, creator. It was listening to you. I do not wish to be affiliated with a God who treats their world like this. One who makes such commands on a whim, without having true reason for concern. Let your creation; this world… exist, and watch over it. Do not interfere unless absolutely necessary. I will do so, and I hope you will too. As for me, I shall carve my own path, under your command no longer. Farewell"

"You need not disappear, Giratina"

"Had you said that earlier, I may have believed you. But I'd rather not live in a world whose creator would so easily throw me away. Let me be at peace, in my own world." and so... its a watchful protector over the world of pokemon... acting to atone for its misdeeds... even though said misdeeds were ultimately arceus' misdeeds It only comes out of the distortion world when it sees it as absolutely necessary, because it holds spite for the way arceus treats its world. perhaps eventually this conflict gets settled. maybe in this AU, this is solved postgame in platinum or something but would you forgive being banished by your own creator for doing exactly as it had told and forced you to do? Would be hard to... so yeah, the general idea is just that giratina has Dark Powers but it doesn't use them for bad. and uh well, yeah everything else i wrote. i think its laid out pretty cleanly

i had the idea once that PLA was going to be centered around a morally grey arceus... because all we really knew is that something mysterious from atop the mountain (the rift) was happening and probably linked to the mysterious strikes of lightning that made the nobles frenzy so much and... i still think its a cool AU idea, and i honestly forgot i had a finished version written (This is not what I spent today writing, I wrote all of this back in august of 2021). ahem (also i will end up reblogging this with a more updated and polished version, but heres what i had done in 2021!)

This story takes place in the Hisuian period of the Sinnoh region, back before humans and pokemon truly lived together. Some were befriended, but only the littler, more peaceful ones. Much of the world did not know how to feel about such strange creatures they had always lived with. Some were powerful, some were… cute? Arceus, creator of all, had been watching over the world it had made from various locations, its favorite being Mt. Coronet in the Hisui region. It was tall and secluded, no one would easily find it, yet it could see all of hisui from up there.

Arceus felt some concern as the humans of the world felt curiosity towards how the future of humans and pokemon could be, if they could work together…

Arceus had created both humans and pokemon, but had not expected them to want to work together. It expected that of some of it’s creatures, of course. The smaller, cuter ones would definitely catch the eyes of many… but so many Pokemon were brutal killers, or cursed ghosts that would haunt you for life if you did so much as say something rude. Yet humans persisted… Arceus did not know why they did. This was a cause for concern to Arceus; Were the humans merely trying to befriend and make peace with the more dangerous creatures? That could end in many dangerous situations, it thought. Yet that thought was not the most likely scenario, it thought. It had watched how resourceful humans were, and how they used the world to their advantage. Would they treat its precious creations the same way? Would they abuse them for their power?

Arceus pondered, unsure of what to do with such an unpredictable world, with developments in pokemon research happening faster and faster, it knew it had to do something. It decided it would be better if people stayed far from most Pokemon, as it may risk their lives. It also feared the opposite, that if Pokemon got too close to humans, it may risk their lives. 

So Arceus used its powers to make groups of Pokemon turn rabid and lose control, hoping the people would see their true destructive natures and decide to stay away. 

It was only then that Arceus realized the attacks may also make people see Pokemon as evil, and it remembered… humans wouldn’t just run away. They never run from something more dangerous than them; They persevere. Perhaps this would entice some with the dream of power even more than before… perhaps this would cause humans to retaliate against the Pokemon, seeing them as a threat to conquer.

Arceus was scared, even as a deity of the world, it could not predict people.

ugh if black pete did have some kind of contact with blackbeard previously (altho it'd obvs be limited and not what he hyped it up to be) i feel like that'd make sense and ties his character in better to the rest of the show. i feel like there's enough small but kinda strange things with the interactions around black pete to justify it

the fact that he maybe actually wasn't lying about having smoke for a head. apparently the real life blackbeard would actually put candles in his hair to freak people out. it's possible that it could have been an earlier, less developed version of the fuckery

when blackbeard crew first came onboard they all took turns hitting black pete. which is easy to brush off as a gag because it is funny but it is a bit out of place in retrospect where we don't see ivan and fang act like that towards any of the other crew members. the way they hit him is also in a way that comes off rather ?? familiar like smacking him in the back of his head. i feel like it's similar to how you casually discipline a child (please don't hit your kids btw)

izzy also wants to make black pete first mate for some reason? i feel like that's one of the odder choices because i'm not sure we ever see izzy even talk to black pete beforehand. also leadership... isn't his strong suit and it seems like ivan or fang would be an obvious first pick for izzy (probably ivan tbh.) both of whom can act a bit funny, but are obviously competent at their job. either way i feel like it's a leap to get to black pete and there doesn't seem to be much logic to it. fang and ivan also have a strong reaction to this, and that can easily be explained away by "well it's black pete" we don't see black pete really?? doing much to warrant that from ep 4 onwards. the only thing we see him do that stands out to the crew really is go get oranges, and say what you will of black pete, he did in fact go get them oranges

fang also calls him brown pete. which again could just be a joke, but it hasn't come up before. it seems in character for pete's previous nickname to be "brown pete" and he changed it to "black pete" instead

when blackbeard first comes onboard pete also asks "did he happen to mention me?" or something to that effect. that's kinda an odd phrasing where i feel like if you just got caught in a lie of never knowing a person who you've been pretending to be besties with your first reaction isn't "i wonder if he'll recognize me" it's setting yourself up for denial and confirming that you weren't even that close. he says it to lucius too, someone he's less likely to lie to. it would make more sense if he had went straight into justifying himself like "oh yeah, we're playing it cool right now. we're so close that we don't even need to say hi to each other. it's good to be back with the bestie." asking if blackbeard mentioned him or not makes it sound like he was actually expecting an answer and was worried for what it would be.

and then there's just? pete's whole obsession with blackbeard in the first place. blackbeard is obviously a famous pirate and everything, but why did pete latch onto this pirate out of all of them. it's funny because the way he talks about blackbeard is very? childish and hero worshiping. usually there's a reason given for why a character is obsessed with something to the point of lying, but that hasn't been addressed yet. (if he's not part of blackbeard's crew prev or some other vague connection then i'd guess it'd be something about hearing stories of blackbeard as a kid or whatever)

anyways, i have some thoughts and theories! on a storytelling perspective:

i feel like we haven't seen a lot of black pete in the show with his positive traits outside of being lucius' boyfriend. in comparison to the other crew members, there's little focus on showing him interacting positively with any of the characters outside of lucius. i'd guess in a s2 we might learn more about black pete's past and get more character development and interactions then

i'm usually a firm believer that things show up on screen for a reason, and even if it's a character lying, there's probably a kernel of truth in there somewhere. opening the episode with black pete talking about blackbeard and receiving his name is a choice, when it could have easily been crew members sharing what legends and rumors they heard of blackbeard to build up the image of fear we as the audience are expected to feel towards him (before later subverting that.) there's better ways of introducing blackbeard the legend than pete telling tall tales, so it's possible that the story isn't there to serve blackbeard's image, but to communicate to us something about pete.

and then some theories i have that can be disproven in s2 but consider:

fang calls him brown pete! i wonder if it's possible that when black pete told the story of blackbeard gifting him his name, if it was actually "lol let's call him the brown dread pete" due to some sort of embarrassing incident. like maybe he didn't save blackbeard's life on a raid, but maybe he did go on a raid with him! and shit himself in the process 😭 it maintains the core aspect of the story, but more realistic to what we'd expect of him and also i can just REALLY imagine that as a backstory/gag

bear with me, but it's kinda sus that izzy doesn't really ever talk to black pete much other than to slutshame his boyfriend. even when he takes his turn smacking pete, it's a light slap on the back of the head opposed to ivan gut punching him. this is out there, but GOD it's be funny as fuck if izzy was pete's like uncle once removed or second cousin or some shit. like idc if it makes sense it'd be sooo funny for izzy's shitty baby cousin to have gotten a job because he owes pete's mom a favor, and ivan and fang fucking hated him for being a horrible nepotism pirate

ah, i meant bakudeku just as bakugou and deku in that exactly bakudeku moment, so, i know that your art is of them but they feel a little different from how the canon characters feel to me so... hm, idk. obviously it is all personal interpretations, and i totally agree that that‘s like the point :D or one of them lol? it‘s at least super fun, and i think it‘s cool that people branch out like they do as well, watching the same source material but taking away different things from it and idealizing it in different ways for how they‘d want things to be. saying bakudeku really didn‘t make sense in that moment; that refers to the ship. sorry for the confusion!

ohh ok! so basically what i'm hearing is that u like bkdk but in the context of mostly fan art (with all of its fan interpretations), not in the actual series? bc if so that's understandable too — fan content will always dramatize a relationship more than what's present in canon and might make it seem more appealing LOL

haha i have no problem with ppl not liking bkdk as a ship or choosing not to ship it for any particular reason, so no worries! i know lots of bkdks can get pretty territorial over their ship tho, so for ur best interest, i'd recommend not going up to random bkdk artists and talking about krbk out of nowhere ^^' i've met a staggering amount of bkdks who don't like krbk at all (the same way i've met lots of krbks who hate bkdk) so probably best to make sure the bkdk is ok with other ships including bkg and deku. it's smart to play it safe — this fandom is already barely keeping it together with ship discourses and i wouldn't want u caught in the crossfire ( ；´Д｀)

despite the severe amount of bkdk i draw, i am a multishipper, so i don't particularly take much offense to these anon asks. as long as u don't come in slandering what i like then u're good lol. i have few notps so it'd always be nice to see more interactions between characters in the manga :') canon krbk has been pretty dry for ... maybe around 2 years now? oh god. which sucks, but hopefully they'll get some stuff soon !!! rooting for u and ur fellow krbks !!!

and u can read the manga online! i used to use bokunoheromanga.com, but it seems to have trouble with showing older chapter pages — or maybe it's just me. now i just use VIZ for every new update but there are definitely sites dedicated to posting the mha manga chapters whenever they come out! (i only buy certain volumes if they have specific arcs or scenes i like lol)

FF6 Review (Overall)

I'm going to rate similar to the way I did FF7 Remake, but in only 2 parts, so there will be an overall review then a separate deep dive into the characters.

I played this game using an emulator and I'm not ashamed of it because I used the FF6 Relocalization project which I'll link

Basically nerd talk and explanation of what that means: It's basically a retranslation of the original SNES script using the GBA port as a base and mixing and matching some of the best parts so there you go. They have a way to mod the PC version to have the OG sprite work because sheesh is that thing ugly and they also have a way to resprite and resound the GBA version but this is the easiest and logical solution to get the best of all worlds. There's also "Anthology" which is the PS1 port that adds some CG custscenes which I just watched off of YouTube because it's only a few of the major scenes.

Anyways, yeah, I'm glad I emulated it especially because of the fast forward function. That first chunk would've been rough without it because you're left just waiting for one of your party's commands to be ready but it eases up as the game goes on because you get pretty busy with the combat.

I'm not a fan of turn-based RPGs which was the main reason I haven't touched a 2D FF game until now so this is my first and oh boy, what a first!

Could you just watch a playthrough or read the story then? I wouldn't recommend it. There are certain things that I feel are better experienced.

Gameplay actually wasn't all that gruesome, as I mentioned, it got better thoughout but I know for a fact that I didn't do everything it had to offer because I see other people doing it online and I just had no idea how. That's not to say it's not newcomer friendly though, I mean I beat the game, didn't I? I think it would've just gotten complicated and made me confused if I learned how to do everything in the game anyway.

I found myself liking some of the mechanics and recognizing some of the systems from games as late as today (I'm not sure if this is where they started but I wouldn't be surprised). The random encounters weren't all bad because of the emulator's speed up function but there were definitely times where it felt a little out of hand with the amount I was getting. (I'm looking at you Cave to the Sealed Gate!) So it's all pretty familiar, though there are "Relics" which are kind of like Materia but each member has 2 each where it gives you an ability, f.e. Reflect, every attack hits, extra power, auto cast protect, heal with every step, etc.

One of the drawbacks of using BSNES though was that there was no toggle for a L or R shoulder button, just turbo and while that's not a big problem, that is the button to Flee a battle, so I just never fled. There is an item that lets you escape any dungeon or battle but I didn't really use it, same with the permanent item that Mog has in the cave (pretty late in the game). I'd rather there be a repel than the warp stone, but I figured that if I just fought whenever the opp arrived then I wouldn't have to grind, which is another thing I hate about RPGs! Luckily, I didn't really feel the need to grind other than for the ending.

Difficulty wasn't really a grind but make sure once you get to the floating island, that you know what you're doing because that level was annoying and I felt a very stong spike in difficulty as soon as I landed on it. Another thing is that sometimes it'd glitch and an enemy would have infinite health so I'd just sit there on fast forward, watching and watching then finally use Libra and no damage was made, might be an emulator thing, might be a game thing and although rare, it still happened.

There are these sections called scenarios where the game branches off into multiple different paths and you can choose which order to follow the specific sets of characters. I really like that aspect and makes it seem less linear and interactive because it's letting you choose how to tell the story. I have a thing for games that let me interact with it (That opera scene is pretty interactive too).

For a 2D sprite game, it has quite a personality with its cutscenes. They can be very cinematic and defintely makes the characters just that more engaging with some of their mannerisms.

Ok, I get it now. The music is bomb. If anything, that would be worth doing a remake for, to get orchestral and updated versions of some of the themes. (I'd probably cry at that opera scene) But Celes' theme is probably my favorite. The PC port has pretty good remixes for the most part though.

Could this use a remake? It's a trivial matter because I think a good majority of fans want it to be remade and I understand why but at the same time I understand the other side of the argument as well. This was the last 2D FF game and that's special, in a way, the story kind of reflects that. And I think with all the personality comes a bit of caution because you might see something in these characters or scenes that may be misinterpreted or done differently in a remake, similar to how you read a book and just imagine how it's playing out. I think it lays enough ground so that you don't "have to interpret" like with most NES games (how the Super Mario Movie was born) from an outsider's point of view, it may first seem that way though. (myself included (yes, I know this was SNES era. Shut up!))

What would I want out of a remake? I would want the airship to return and be able to move around freely but keep the towns pretty faithful (which makes for more linear opportunities). I could see Edgar's tools being used similar to Barrett's but we have "First Soldier" now which is a 3PS Battle Royale, why not have his tools play similar to that? Then actually give him story opportunities to pick up his tools rather than "just because you bought them" It would be a nice natural progression. I would suggest the same with Sabin and Cyan, have them learn their Blitz and Bushido moves by being taught by Duncan, you do learn one move from Duncan in the vanilla game but I'd see it as more opportunity to build your characters and make it feel rewarded. So, in those aspects, I would like to see FF6 remade or improved but as for everything else, they should keep it a lot similar to the original than FF7R did. I think that's where a lot of the criticism with FF7R came from (as well as what I mentioned in the previous paragraph) While I'd prefer a gameplay overhaul similar to what they did with R, I'd rather keep the essence. There aren't sequels or spinoffs or anything of this game so this is all it has (unless you count the ports but that's minimal).

In the CHARACTERS section, I compliment the side-quest system but I would like there to be a better indication as to "what" you're doing, rather than just looking up the next steps or be left to travel around until the goal is clear. They have the quest completion menu as well as waypoints in FF7R, I could see that being put to good use in a game like this. It would also be cool to actually "visibly" wear the gear that you equip to your character but I understand why that isn't utilized in most of the games (probably makes for better character models) especially considering most of these characters' costumes could use an update. You didn't get to use the Magitek suits nearly as much as I thought you would from the marketing and even the dang cover and logo, so a remake could improve on that as well. Another small complaint is that it doesn't tell you what the items do WHILE you're in battle, only when you're in the menu, sorting them and while some are staples like Phoenix Down, I still don't remember what the heck a 'Gold Needle' does.

Overall I'd probably rate the FF games that I've played (but maybe not finished all of) as such: FF7 > FF13 > FF6 > CRISIS CORE > FF15 > FF12 but I think 6 and 13 are kind of interchangeable because if you said one over the other, I wouldn't really argue.

So I have been thinking on the idea that if they do show it Oscar and Whitley could form a sort of friendship given that both sort of have a big thing coming for them (Whitley in running the Dust company and Oscar's chosen one deal) What do you think? Also I feel it'd be cool is Whitley's sembalence was like good stratigic planning he is able to see two moves ahead like in chess and plan for it.

Hello again Crystal. Y’know once upon a time, I would’ve been open to Whitley and Oscar becoming steady friends and having an almost love-hate type of friendship mirroring Ruby and Weiss. I came to appreciate Rich Farmers as a FRIEND-ship which is ironic since before that I wanted Whitley and Oscar to be rivals for Ruby’s affections XD

Oscar and Whitley are my boys and seeing them finally meet and interact would’ve been an interesting sight. But now that I’ve seen nearly half of V7, I’m unsure of whether or not Whit and Oscar will ever get a chance to meet given how the PLOT has been shaping up.

If we’re lucky, Oscar would be attending the election Watch Party up in Atlas with JNR_RWBY and would just so happen to bump into Whit who just so happened to be attending the Watch Party too on behalf of his father just to promote his campaign at the school or something—I dunno. Just a crumb of interaction would’ve sufficed. 

However, as I said, I’m not sure if these two will ever meet at all. At least notfor V7. I’m still waiting to see what either of their roles will be like for this volume.

I have a sinking suspicion that Whitley will be the one to reveal to Weiss about how their mother has been really doing since she departed. Who knows? Perhaps…he might even allow her back into their home to see her while Jacques is away on business (or rendezvousing with Watts). 

I say this since I don’t think Klein is around anymore. I’m starting to wonder if he was unceremoniously let go after it was discovered that he helped Weiss escape. It was odd not seeing him at Schnee Manor, even when Watts came to visit Jacques. Then again the PLOT hasn’t visited the Manor much for this season outside of the end of CH4. I wonder if we will get more on that as we move into the political subplot for the season.

Since Jacques sparked quite an uproar in Mantle, I’m intrigued at how that’s going to be played out next episode. I’d like to imagine that part of the reason our young heroes were ultimately granted a night off was due to them needing one after working possibly double time to deal with all the ruckus bringing forththe Grimm that was caused by the People of Mantle revolting against the General and Atlas after what Jacques caused.

It wouldn’t surprise me if more Grimm start invading the city due to all the risingnegativity at the city in the clouds, thanks to the Ice King himself.

The start of V7 and the narrative that follows afterwards surrounding Jacques, General Ironwood and even Robyn Hill and her Happy Huntresses should be more than fascinating to watch play out. I can’t wait. 

But going back to Whit, I really feel like Whitley’s role for this season will be delegated to outing Jacques on his underhanded cooperation with Watts.

I feel as we’re going to get Whitley snooping around on his father and Watts.

Oh! Do you know what would actually be pretty darn cool?

What if…Whitley allows Weiss back into Schnee Manor when she shows up to visit their mother who, as we remember, was told to not be doing so well since Weiss’ departure. While checking in on her mom, Whitley invites Weiss to show her something and it’s basically a scenario where Whitley reveals to Weiss another secret passageway within Schnee Manor that leads into a hidden area overlooking Jacques’ office where Whitley and Weiss could spy in on their father.

Let’s say…Whit wants to tell Weiss about what his father had been doing to win the elections. However since he’s also aware that his sister might not believe him, he decides a better way to prove himself is by showing her the truth. So basically Weiss and Whitley end up spying in on Jacques just when Arthur Watts pays him another visit. Maybe Tyrian Callows tags along with Watts this time?

Now here’s the thing with this. Weiss doesn’t know who Tyrian is. The only person on Team RWBY aware of Tyrian is Ruby. So as an alternative to this theory of mine, let’s say:

Weiss returns home to see her mother. Ruby tags along with for morale support. Unfortunately the security at Schnee Manor deny Weiss access even if it was to see her mother, thanks to Jacques giving them strict orders to. Fortunately for Weiss, she reunites with good ole Klein who helps her and Ruby sneak into the manor to see Mama Schnee. 

In her mother’s room, Weiss discovers her mother passed out drunk but sleeping more or less soundly. As it turns out her fears were proven right as her mother looks ill and let’s say her room is a mess, littered with empty wine bottles and glasses as a sign of several alcoholic episodes. This upsets Weiss dearly at seeing her mother in such a state. Luckily her best friend Ruby is there to comfort her.

Weiss then goes to wake her mother up to show that she is still there for her. Unfortunately Weiss’ time with her mother is cut short as Klein comes in to warn the girls that they needed to now leave since Jacques had returned home and security was coming down the hallway.

Weiss and Ruby leave just as Mama Schnee opened her eyes to an emptydark room, missing seeing her beloved daughter again by a millisecond.

Similar to how Klein assisted Weiss with the passageway that led straight out of the manor, he attempts to use the same one from V4 to provide Weiss and Ruby a means of escape. However they are forced to make a detour since the room with the passageway is used or something. Klein is then forced to leave the girls on their own when he’s called away by Jacques.

Long story short, Weiss and Ruby Scooby-Doo their way around Schnee Manor, avoiding as much encounters with security and staff as they could. Eventually their hide and seek results in them stumbling upon another hidden passageway that takes them to the secret hiding spot I described before overseeing Jacques’ office.

From here, Ruby and Weiss listen in on Jacques once again scheming with Watts. Tyrian happens to be there as well and Ruby immediately recognizes him; informing Weiss that the Scorpion Faunus was bad news since he was the one who poisoned Qrow and attacked her and JNR back in Mistral. Thus meaning that Weiss’ father was getting himself roped in with people who work for Salem!

While Weiss and Ruby are processing this revelation, let’s say…that they are caught by Whitley who knew about the passageway since he used it to spy in on Jacques. Whitley has an opportunity to rat Weiss and Ruby out to the in-house security or worse Jacques and his associates. But rather than do that, Whitley does the last thing Weiss expected him to do for her—help her.

With Whit’s help, Ruby and Weiss are able to make their way back toKlein and eventually out of Schnee Manor undetected.

One of my Whit-ty headcanons for Whitley is that he will redeem himself, at least in the eyes of Weiss by helping her in some shape or form. 

My rationale for this is because I strongly believe that Whitley will be the Huntsman (ironically) in Weiss’ Snow White story. 

In the original fairy-tale, the Huntsman was sent to kill Snow White by the Wicked Queen but instead the Huntsman took pity on her and allowed her to go free into the forest where she eventually met the Seven Dwarves.

The assumption here in that Whitley is meant to be exactly like Jacques and thus act as an antagonist to Weiss in some way, right? However I still wish to hold out on the concept of Whitley proving himself to be trusted in the eyes of Weiss, finally opening the door for the potential of these two sharing an actual good relationship.

While all the sisterly moments between Weiss and Winter for this season have been nice, it still bothers me how nonchalant Weiss and Winter are with continuing to wholeheartedly support each other while still leaving their little brother in the dark in the hands of their father; the thought of extending that olivebranch to him still crossing neither of their minds even now. Like…really?

Who knows. Maybe if we do get a moment of Whitley helping Weiss, it may spark the thought of her reaching out to Whit. Perhaps…we can finally have some backstory for these two for once. Again, all the stuff between Weiss and Winter is cool and all that jazz. However this squiggle meister is more intrigued to learn what Weiss’ story with her brother is all about, y’know what I mean?

As for Whitley’s semblance, I’m more inclined with the theory that Whitley possesses the same hereditary Glyph semblance that all Schnees possess since he is a Schnee. 

Regardless of how much the PLOT wishes to have me believe that Whit is exactly like his father, I wish to stand by the thought that he is more like his sisters than he realizes. 

Whitley is a Schnee so if he’s to have a semblance, I want it to be Glyphs. I want to see Whit have his own summon and long ago, I pegged Whit’s choice of summon would be a Geist Grimm he accidentally killed after it attacked him and Klein at the Manor.

Then Whit ends up being haunted by said Geist since he couldn’t control it. Whitley awakening his semblance and needing help to control his powers could be a potential way for him to bond with his sisters. 

Imagine Weiss and Winter coming together to help their brother understand what he’s going through with his gift. Imagine Whit becoming conflicted by this since his powers give him a connection to his sisters and an actual good relationship with them (which I still believe is what Whitley wants above anything else) however at the same time, he is torn by his loyalty to their father.

This could’ve been a great subplot to flesh out Whit as a character.Buuuuuuuuuuuut….this is only just me and my headcanons. Whitley’s true purpose in the PLOT; I shall leave that to the CRWBY Writers to reveal. In the meantime. I’ll just have my own ideas.

I do like your idea for Whit’s semblance though, Crystal. Basically your idea is for Whit t have a foresight type of semblance; similar to how Maria’s Reflex semblance operates in a sense, right? 

Either way, I can dig that. However, like I said, my top choice for Whit’s semblance is dem Glyphs. I want my boy to be the Schnee that he is, dagnabbit!  But we shall see how that goes as the volume unfolds.
