The g1 fanon, which was started back in the 80s and 90s from what I’ve been told, is so crazy in how it can flesh out formerly flat or boring characters. So many were just slowly built up by fanfics becoming popular and inspiring other people. Some of it is based on the cartoon in some way, but just as much was made up but stuck because people liked it.

Actually - I don’t have the post, but and older fan accounted that JazzProwl started on livejournal as a crack pairing. And now it’s literally the most tagged ship on AO3 because people liked their dynamic!! O_O

So much of the fanon was built this way, by people inspiring people, and I think that’s pretty neat!

one thing i love about the transformers fandom is that there are so many iterations of the same characters over and over, sometimes with wildly different characterizations, that anything you do fanon-wise will never feel completely off the mark. I constantly see people coming up with their own fanon continuities or continuity soups that are wildly creative and yet still feel in-line with the core of the franchise, because canon is so varied that really nothing feels impossible.

transformers started as toys to play with and the fandom really captures the spirit of that with the way we play with the characters. we're having fun playing with our toys :)

You know what would've been nice? Shen Jiu ending up on a different peak that's actually good for him. Maybe Qian Cao, or the beast taming peak could've been hella therapeutic. Or the alcohol/brewery peak to drown away all his sorrows. But what if he stayed fucked up, in a way that's actually good and productive for society? Yeah, I wanna toss him over to Yin Hui and let him run wild! I've seen many iterations of Yin Hui, the fanon peak for espionage and poisons in fanfics. By extension, Yin Hui is also covertly the assassination peak, and I wish this peak got more attention around here tbh. Why do I think this peak is the most well suited for Shen Jiu? BECAUSE ASSASSINS. Duh.

So here comes a baby demonic cultivator Shen Jiu and the Yin Hui peak lord immediately wants him. Shen Jiu would be more readily accepted by his peak martial siblings, and no one would bat an eye at Shen Jiu, his standoffish personality or shady past. A lot of Yin Hui disciples are from questionable backgrounds since the Yin Hui peak lord naturally has to be very particular about selecting their disciples. Yin Hui was established to protect the sect and its people by any means necessary. Sure, the rest of the sect may fight against the supernatural, demons, and the undead, but Yin Hui fights an even greater monster: people.

The Yin Hui peak lord manipulated things so that the first impression the rest of the sect has about Shen Jiu is 'that new badass Yin Hui disciple that killed the criminal Wu Yanzi and saved the future sect leader!' (Seeing as Wu Yanzi would be the very sort of ppl they assassinate, he's already getting goated on Yin Hui too.) So Shen Jiu is known as that new prodigious disciple from Yin Hui and is getting some goddamn respect! And just because of his association with his peak, fewer people are inclined to question his background and whatnot since there's an understanding that the identity of the YH disciples needs to be heavily guarded. The Yin Hui peak lord finds out about the Qiu's soon enough, and they erase any and all traces leading back to Shen Jiu. Even framing it in a way that makes it look like WY did the massacre. Any credibility Qiu Haitang could've had for Shen Jiu's murder accusations is thrown out the window. (Ain’t no way in hell the Yin Hui peak lord is going to name SJ that stupid trauma inducing name like a certain Qing Jing peak lord, that's for sure.)

I'm pulling in elements from MDZS over here. In my version of Yin Hui, they have disciples who practice demonic cultivation, but they make sure it's in a safer way that won't hurt them. There's a surprising number of disciples who have damaged cultivation and chose to cultivate the ghost path. The previous generations of Yin Hui peak lords have created Wei Wuxian's inventions in this AU, and is used by the rest of the peak, like the compass of ill winds, paper metamorphosis, the spirit attraction flag, and empathy. I lowkey want a Wei Wuxian that's native to SV to be the Yin Hui peak lord, now that I think about it. He's good with his kiddos and would be an awesome shizun. And ofc, Shen Jiu is a reflection of his environment, so he's certainly making an example out of Wei Wuxian, one of the only positive influences in his life.

Shen Jiu still has his violent tendencies, so nothing has changed about that, but he learns to take that pent-up energy out on missions instead. And he does them well. It even gives him an edge. Everyone else thinks he's just reallyyy good at his job, as expected of the talented head disciple of Yin Hui!!

He really does try his best to not be an ass (bc he gets the love he deserves on Yin Hui) and ends up venting in a different way (coz he knows better than to take it out on people who don’t deserve it.) His shizun really gave him the free reign to kill sl@ve trad3rs, human tr@ffick3rs, r-ists, and other scum whenever he wanted, in the name of stress relief lol. If killing a particular person becomes politically complicated, like the Old Palace Bastard, then you best believe he's going to scheme like the little schemer he is. He's going to Nie Huaisang the OPM.

Since Shen Jiu is not salty about his fucked up cultivation, and his martial siblings respect him, they get along just fine. His cultivation is some parts similar to Wei Wuxian's: Shen Jiu is a ghost cultivator influenced by music. Sure, he may not be that great of a spiritual cultivator, so what? He's pulling up like the Yiling Patriarch with his demonic cultivation and a haunted guqin of his own.

And guess what? Shen Jiu enjoys teaching. He's training miniature assassins, spies, and the art of demonic cultivation, so forgive him if he's more than a little enthusiastic about it. I imagine that he's exactly like Shifu from kung fu panda when it comes to teaching. Still extremely harsh and strict when training, but outside of actually teaching, he's an attentive and caring shizun. And yes, he completely does act like a father figure who is proud of his murder babies, and ends up being called A-Ba so much that all of Cang Qiong thinks he's officially adopted every single one of his disciples. (After being saved by SJ on a mission, NYY persistently begs SJ to take her in even though he desperately thinks Yin Hui isn't a good fit for her. And then, after being under him for a while, she's completed her first mission successfully, has smn else's blood on her face, and is smiling brightly. 

Ning Yingying: "I completed my mission shizun! Are you proud of me?"

Shen Jiu: "..."

Some other peaklord: "Haha like father like daughter! She's definitely your girl alright!"

Shen Jiu: "...!?!" )

Yue Qingyuan is conerneth about his Xiao Jiu, but as long as he's happy, who cares. Shen Jiu has a better relationship with the other peak lords, so when asked about why he visits brothels, he straight up tells them that it's the best place to gather information in the dark. He doesn't have that mentality of "why explain myself when no ones finna believe me anyway" He actually trusts them and is more honest with time. Shen Jiu does come clean about killing the Qiu's at some point, and the peak lords are all like-

"I didn't hear shit"

"See, I'm blind in my left eye, and 75% blind in my right-"

"Completely understandable, Shen shidi!"

They don't even ask why he did it and just assume he had a valid reason, and he absolutely fucking did.

Oh, Shen Jiu gets accused of playing dirty? Liu Qingge, he literally kills ppl and makes poison as a daytime fucking job ofc he's gonna play dirty! Shen Jiu tried killing you that one time on the well mission? Bro you good? The fact that you think he tried to kill you and failed?? You just insulted an entire peak of disciples and their ancestors. You would've been dead before you could even think of sensing their killing intent if it were true. And there was a witness too, doofus. Be fucking for real. Nahh coz there definitely would be more people who are taking Shen Jiu's side whenever the two of them fight.

Shen Jiu uses a shit ton of versatile weapons because most of his fighting and cultivation prowess comes from his wits and adapting to fighting with different styles/methods. He is kinda similar to Xie Lian bc both of them lack spiritual energy/qi (damaged spirit roots in Shen Jiu's case), but that does not mean they are weaker. It just means they learned to train their body and minds instead of relying on cultivation/qi. He has a massive arsenal of weapons along with the demonic cultivation. (Airport security would hate him)

Yin Hui has got to be my favorite fanon peak, and Yin Hui! Shen Jiu plauges so many of my waking thoughts, I can't stop-

I can add elements from my other hyperfixation into this AU, the Avatar Chronicles. Which are the written books from ATLA. The criminal organization Kyoshi joined, the Daofei, for example, could be a good plot point. Or the Platinum Affair from the Yangchen books. If you don’t know what the Avatar Chronicles are, just ignore this last part lol.

Dick Grayson ✨

Different suits from his different stages (my AU- kinda)

A modern interpretation of his different ages, Basically canon stages (most of them), but from different lines joined into one, partly with HCs to give them coherence, lol.

Below I explain each of the costumes and a bit about the timelines in this AU (?)

Before I begin, let me clarify these things for this timeline:

Bruce was 27, almost 28, when he took in 8-year-old Dick.

Dick is only 3 years older than Jason, and Jason is only 2 years older than Tim. When Dick is 23, Damian is 10, almost 11 yo.

Now, let's start :D

1. Robin (9 years old).

He baby.

His costume consists mainly of 3 parts:

The green leotard which is made from his original Flying Graysons costume (he supervised all the work so that his costume would not be damaged).

The red vest, inspired by the red jacket worn by Pop Haly, the circus ringmaster, his first grandpa in everything but blood.

And his iconic yellow cape, of course; his tactic as Robin was, in fact, to steal the spotlight to make Batman even more invisible, so the bright colors suited him perfectly... Although he eventually learned to sneak around even in these bright colors, managing to scare even Bruce on more than one occasion. The cape is short to keep it from getting in the way of his stunts, but it is still resistant to things like fire and water, although not as resistant to weapons as Batman's because it would be too heavy.

In addition, his belt contained mainly elements to help with distraction and first aid items.

In my AU, Jason never received this costume, only Dick wore it because it was too personal, being literally his circus clothes transformed into his Robin uniform. (Aside from the obvious detail that it might not fit him, considering Jason was 13 and Dick was 9 years old, even if Jason was a little small due to malnutrition, Dick was also too small for his age).

2. Robin (13 years old).

Second version of his costume, a sign in some way of his passage from childhood to adolescence.

While it no longer had details from its original suit, it kept the essence of the suit as much as possible while beginning to give a more mature appearance, as well as including more efficient elements; such as starting to carry more weapons and not just distraction items on his belt, as well as more protection as he began to engage in close combat.

The black cloak on the outside helps with stealth, while he uses the yellow inner part as a way to draw attention if necessary. He still keeps his cape short so it doesn't get in the way of his stunts... Still not as durable as Batman's, but more durable than its first version.

As you can see, it is a mix in some ways of his costumes used in the animated series Young Justice and Teen Titans; so he also has things like gloves that he can use to connect to electrical equipment and hack them.

He started using it when he formed the Teen Titans team.

This costume only underwent minor changes until he was no longer Robin.

This is the suit Jason receives when he starts out as Robin.

Here I make an interlude to explain this part of the AU (again, it's a mix of different canon lines and some fanon stuff), where he goes from being Robin to Nightwing:

In my AU, Dick stops being Robin a few weeks before he turns 17. It doesn't exactly happen because he quit Robin or because Batman fired him, but in a way it's a mix of both situations.

Dick spent too much time with the Teen Titans, which bothered Batman as he felt he was no longer committed to Gotham and his role as his sidekick. So Batman confronts him about this... Not so much out of anger actually, but out of misplaced concern, as he felt he couldn't protect Dick if he was away from him, but he couldn't express himself. Bruce not knowing how to express concern resulted in a control that Dick was beginning to tire of as he grew older.

However, it was not only because Bruce was suffocating to him, but because Dick himself was beginning to doubt whether he really wanted to be a vigilante all his life. After finishing high school at a young age, he was admitted to university despite being younger than other students, which made him rethink many things.

Before he can express his insecurities to Bruce, he gives him an ultimatum: choose the Teen Titans, or choose to remain Robin.

Dick asks for some time to think about it, while he withdraws from both the Titans and Robin as he prepares to attend college.

However, Bruce takes his hesitation as a response, and "releases" him from his responsibilities as Robin and let him go to college.

That's when Dick, being away, just a few months later discovers that Batman now has another Robin as a partner through the news.

The short time that has passed causes Dick to misinterpret the situation as Bruce having spent much more time than he actually spent thinking about replacing him and training Jason, since Dick trained a full year before becoming Robin, he believes Jason must have gone through a similar amount of time, perhaps longer since Dick's training was short since he was kind of a prodigy (who also had physical training since he learned to walk); which makes him feel even more betrayed and angry towards Bruce.

This is when Clark contacts him, having also heard the news and wanting to know what had happened and, above all, how Dick was doing after this.

This is when he has the talk with Clark about what happened, his unofficial "dismissal" as Robin, and for the first time, Dick talks about his insecurities about being a hero, and also about his feelings about Bruce, since despite this, the man still sends him money and continues paying for his classes, plus he still responds as his mentor even if they haven't had a real conversation in months. Dick is angry and hurt, but he can't bring himself to hate Bruce, and clearly not Jason either, who he suspects doesn't even know the full context of the situation between him and Bruce.

Clark, who was always his second mentor and practically another father figure to him, supports him in this whole situation, not only telling him the story of Nightwing, helping Dick more than he thinks possible by making him see that he wants to continue being a vigilante... But also about his feelings about Bruce, and helping him translate Bruce's feelings as well, realizing that what probably led Bruce to do this was not distrust of him, but his way of giving him the opportunity to choose a life outside of vigilantism.

Although this last part is not resolved so soon, because even if he may have that in mind, the pain is still there... But at least, Dick has solved the first part of the problem, and with Clark's blessing, he's back in the game.

3. Nightwing (17 -almost 18- years old).

Dick's first suit as Nightwing.

It's a basic suit at best, not at all equipped like his previous suits, done primarily for the purpose of simply hiding his identity as Nightwing.

It's made of stuff Dick bought at regular stores, from a gym suit, the jacket, and even the basic pads and belts which, again, are mostly equipped with a first aid kit, as well as rudimentary weapons made by himself (more due to lack of money than knowledge).

We could say that this was his most "rebellious" stage as a vigilante, since even after Bruce discovered him and tried to scold him for his lack of equipment, Dick stuck to the suit for a while.

It's like the Discowing case to a certain extent, more than efficient, it's a suit suited to the fashion of the moment.

Since he could no longer be in Robin's colors, he took blue as the primary color for his suit, although this time saying to use black, as he didn't need to be the light that creates the shadow for Batman, so he decided it was his turn to be stealthy on his own.

Obviously he wasn't going to use just any cape, as it wouldn't have any resistance and would just get in his way.

4. Nightwing (18 -almost 19- years old).

Second version of the Nightwing suit, this time with more professional equipment. (Period of pseudo-peace with Bruce, Mostly for the sake of Jason, who he had become an unofficial mentor to).

It still leans more towards fashion than efficiency, but there's a better balance this time.

It is with this suit that he also begins to use his signature weapons.

(Instead of Mirage's infamous mullet, let me introduce: ✨ wolfcut ✨).

He also partly grew his hair out of depression after Jason died... Oops.

He dropped out of college to focus on Blüdhaven and return to the Titans full time.

5. Nightwing (22 years old).

I usually draw Dick at this stage, in his 22/23 years, even if the suit I once showed is not this one in reality- and probably if I draw it again I'll keep using the light blue/cyan I used before, I just used a dark blue now for the color palette, lol

There's not much to say, it's just a redesign of his current suit- At most I can add that his boots are special to allow him to move his feet more freely.

The suit is made of a more durable material, although definitely not as much as Batman's suit so as not to decrease his agility in any way.

(as I said many times: calisthenics body, not built like a fucking fridge).

(During this period of time he resumed his classes virtually and finished university).

Here the Titans are in charge of Donna, but they clearly still respect him as a leader as if he never left.

6. Batman (24 -almost 25- years old).

Having temporarily taken Bruce's place as Batman, Dick has to wear a different suit in order to fight on Bruce's level.

The suit is less heavy, meaning it is less durable, but it allows Dick greater mobility to make up for the lack of durability with his dodging ability.

The cape is shorter, but just as durable as the original, but, unlike the original, the cape is not attached to the hood and can be easily detached to break free from grabs or increase mobility.

At first, Dick used makeup to cover the visible differences between his face and Bruce's while was using the original Batman mask, but because he needed to be quick in emergencies, he opted to cover his entire face.

Projectile bat-ears :D

The boots are lighter, but the gloves are heavier.

Dick also trained to gain muscle mass, so he sacrificed some of his flexibility, making it impossible to maintain it with so much muscle on his body. He's still a lot more flexible than Bruce (and anyone in the family, tbf) tho.

7. Nightwing (27 yo).

Dick after stopping being Batman, returns to being Nightwing.

He still has more muscle mass than he had before, but he intentionally reduced his musculature a bit to return to his peak flexibility.

He made minor changes to his suit to suit his new fighting style, as it was influenced by his time as Batman.

Does this make anyone else think of how the fandom treats Ragatha?

ehh i feel like the fandom has done a good job of acknowledging her flaws and how she's a people pleaser . if there's a problem i have with the general characterization of ragatha really , it's that there's just so little ... ragathaness in it ??

to put it into words , i feel like not a lot of people grasp that ragatha , at her core , is Emotionally Immature . she doesn't really act like her age . and i'm not saying that turning 30 means you have it all together and all of your problems disappear , it's more like that if we Ignored pomni and ragatha's appearances and compared their actions together , people would've thought that ragatha was Younger than her .

and this is intentional to show the contrast between them . pomni , whenever she's having The Conversation™ , tries to understand and offer suggestions . ragatha , i'm sure she does lend a listening ear but i do not trust ragatha " Toxic Positivity Incarnate " tadc to give advice that isn't as surface level as ' just don't worry about it ! ' or ' keep smiling ! ' , which is already kind of implied through gangle's dialogue

it just puts me off in a lot of fanon content . like i would read a fic and then i had to put it down because i'm like No ragatha knows too much about what she's doing She Literally Never Does that's her point please a ragatha is not complete without some element of anxiety , insincerity , and silliness i have the ragatha recipe right here

Fanon kids in 2025?! So cringe… /sar

So anyway, I made a character for if the pipis Tenna was holding onto hatched. This is not an original idea I KNOW, but I just wanted to make my own interpretation.

Meet Starla!

Like the image says, her creation is part of this little theory I have about pipises (pipi?) in Deltarune. I’m fairly sure they’re just the manifestation of glitched/modded virtual pets due to what’s stated in the holidaygirl1225 blog about the one Spamton sent to her.

Starla is a result of another glitched pet. So while she isn’t technically an Addison nor a TV world Darkner, she comes from somewhere vaguely in the Cyber World before she was found by Spamton.

Tenna took care of her like any other parent would; by hiding her away from the general public. Mind you, both Spamton and Tenna had no idea this… THING would hatch from it. Starla is a total anomaly even amongst other Pipises and I will have it stay that way for comedic effect (I’m too lazy to come up with how she even exists). Tenna can’t exactly hide a whole child. So, to all the TV world Darkners, she just appeared one day.

Starla’s design was inspired by none other than Static Miku if you didn’t already notice. Mostly I took elements from her clothing like the bow and skirt. Some things were changed to look more similar to Spamton and Tenna, such as the coat being black. That or just to look more appealing when side by side with other Deltarune characters, like the colors being toned down (originally, they weren’t in this beta design).

Johnny is a rambunctious wild spirit for an omega, Free spirited in ways that turns off people, but you, you do atleast that's what he thinks. You've grown distant in a few days, noticeably busying yourself with tasks handed to you by Price and steered away from him at every turn.

He's grown antsy, frantic, pheromones all over the place at the prospect of losing you. He decides to sweeten himself up, acting docile in your presence, purposely spraying enhancing pheromone perfumes to catch even a speck of your attention, acting like a good omega should.

But you don't, not even a single lingering glance and it sends him whining to himself like a kicked dog. Have you grown tired of him? Have you found a sweeter omega? Has his personality rubbed you off some wrong way?

He has grown to share this with the other members of the omega's task force, yapping on from your rather sudden change.

"He's... Probably nearing his rut, you know how alpha's get in a loner phase when it's time" Gaz remarks, returning to his own work, frankly tired of the redundant complaining reaching his ears on each break.

I'm almost afraid to ask, but... when are we going to acknowledge that there’s no actual evidence Sirius Black was physically abused in canon?

It’s become so common in fan spaces to treat it like an indisputable fact that Walburga and Orion were regularly using Crucio on their teenage son - as if that wouldn’t have literally landed them both in Azkaban for life.

Yes, I understand that abusive people don’t care about legality - but the level of violence some fanon depictions of the Blacks reach is so extreme, it starts to feel disconnected from the characters entirely. We're not just talking about toxic parenting anymore - we’re talking about full-blown war crimes happening in a family home.

It doesn’t always sit right with me as a survivor of abuse myself - this unspoken implication that the only kind of abuse that really "counts" is physical abuse. That unless Sirius was tortured to the brink of death, the trauma he endured doesn’t feel valid enough to explore. As if emotional abuse isn’t already damaging, isolating, and deeply formative.

Canon gives us plenty to work with.

Sirius calls his family unpleasant and describes being seen as the "bad" son for rejecting their ideals, while Regulus was the "perfect" one - classic emotional abuse: scapegoat vs golden child. He talks about his home as being dark and miserable, and he actively rebelled against his parent's pureblood beliefs just to spite them.

This all clearly points to psychological abuse, emotional abuse, and neglect - but there’s no mention of physical abuse, and there doesn't need to be.

Walburga, especially, is a textbook example of a verbally and psychologically abusive parent - the way her portrait rages with such intensity, the language she uses, the way she made Sirius feel othered and lesser. That’s already serious trauma.

If the physical abuse is part of your headcanon - go for it.

Ultimately, this is fiction - it’s a sandbox, and everyone should feel free to build the version of the story that speaks to them. Honestly, I think it’s totally plausible that there was some element of physical abuse involved, and I’ve written Sirius that way myself, more than once. I will again - I completely understand why some people love the idea of Sirius falling out of the Potters' fireplace half-dead.

But that's just one possibility.

When that headcanon becomes so dominant in fandom spaces that any deviation from it is met with resistance - that's when it becomes slightly frustrating. Especially in roleplay, where that collaborative, "yes, and…" approach is key to keeping a scene alive. If tortured!Sirius is the only headcanon people are willing to engage with, it makes it nearly impossible to explore different dynamics, motivations, or emotional arcs.

The dominance of that headcanon doesn’t just flatten his story - it shuts down the nuance of the entire Black family dynamic. If we take it as given that Walburga and Orion were literally torturing their son, then how do we make sense of Regulus staying? How do we explore complex family loyalties, internalised ideology, or the slow erosion of self that happens in environments like that? It reduces the entire family to caricature, and removes any space to write meaningful conflict, guilt, or generational trauma.

The truth is, the Blacks were awful - but they were also interesting. Shades of grey exist, and fiction is a perfectly safe place to explore that. Sirius himself summed this up with "...the world isn't split into good people and Death Eaters..." and it would be incredibly dull if things were so black and white.

Sirius, canonically, pushed back. He rebelled. He resisted. His bedroom alone tells you everything you need to know about who he was and what he was up against. That kind of defiance in the face of psychological control, suffocating expectations, and constant verbal degradation is real. It is damaging. It is abuse.

We don’t need to crank it up to cartoon villain levels of torture to take it seriously.

I think it’s important to remember that the Blacks were oppressive bigots hiding behind respectability - not open criminals. Walburga and Orion didn’t join the Death Eaters; they just quietly subscribed to the same hateful ideology. And honestly, that’s what makes them so terrifying. It’s also part of what cost them Regulus - but that’s a rant for another day.

They weren’t the type to take bold, visible action, even in support of the cause they believed in. So the idea that they were secretly committing acts of illegal, mind-destroying torture on their own children should be a huge leap - a leap which, in my opinion, should be considered an AU, rather a widely accepted fact.

Anyway - live and let live, it's fiction, none of it really matters anyway.

naming ideas

for her name: i like how its has some phonetic similarities to iris. and i dont believe at all that yujin didnt know her; in japanese, 'l' and 'r' sounds are not distinguished in the same was as english thus: "liz, risu, airisu, iris... (ayame... ayame.) airisu... risu. liz."

but also her fanon - as in the common elements people have in their designs of lady b - designs look just like alot of the fanon designs for minecraft youtuber ldshadowlady. im having a lot of fun thinking about putting them in the life series.... boogieman curse.... the dogs.

this influences me quite a bit i think. primarily, how i characterise klint and liz is influenced by alot of gothic texts (and castlevania...........) as well as other people's interpretations of her. however they are are also lizzie and joel. and you are required to know this

talking about shapes (character design stuffs)

im kinda also working out klint and barok in context of my headcanons/takes. i think, with the design philosophy im carrying rn, i would draw them a little differently to emphasise the certain themes in my head lol. i gotta figure out some kinda shape motif for lady b tbh i dont really have too clear of an idea yet. at first, i thought a heart would be nice (connection with iris - i think a few other people have done so as well) but then The Spiral

ive been thinking of labyrinths quite often lately (house of leaves.) i like the symbolism of her spiraling down into some kind of madness / depravity as is the van zieks way. klint's sword points down to show the same thing. kid barok's hair goes upward. he look up to them. cute. this whole family is literally cursed

writing and truth

ive said this in some earlier posts somewheres but basically my main ideas for her are that

she and klint are trying not to become the sins of their parents. they succeed. but also fail.

barok is motivated by his sense of justice in the pursuit of truth. klint is the sense of justice. thus liz is the pursuit of truth

and ive landed on her being quite into writing. nothing ever published i think, but many volumes of poetry, short fiction and maybe even novels, with her favourite red ink pen. the same color ink that she used to write love letters with.

these works were probably things that she only shows to people close to her. and id think the subject matter would be something close to jane austen's work (critical of the landed gentry; she also published anonymously under the name 'a lady' -> i thought there was something in there about how lady b remains nameless and only a lady)

i think her writing would be a way to channel her frustration, anger, misery, and other such unladylike thoughts. perhaps, in childhood, she would have liked being a newswriter - until she finds out how sensationalized they are (and how would she feel when the news would start calling barok the reaper?)

i havent found a good way to incorporate this into her design yet. i was thinking something about the cape - hiding secret pockets and a notebook and pen? something about gender roles can play in there as well - but it looked too much like stronghart's silhouette imo. replacing barok's father figure while dressing like his mother would be crazy... and there is the swirls. im not too completely against that idea yet. think i gotta keep experimenting

but anyways, i really do like the idea that she and klint look like they could be barok's parents. i think its fucked up (good). the gothic is all about how ur repressing somethings and it keeps coming out, and i kind of like themes of finding out the parent that you idolised isnt actually as good as you once thought they were.

you know about klint. and liz hates lying. but she is also just as great as a liar. she despises the social structures of upper class england, but she is just as wiling to maintain a facade, and has so much hatred that she hides. despite hating to hear it, she's really nosey - does she LIKE hearing about all those reprehensible things she claims to abhor? why else would they all appear in those stories she writes? and why else are all her protagonists such unreliable liars?

i think barok would grow up trying to model all the good that liz and klint try to project. hed probably thinks they would hate him after all that. maybe its comforting to know they also fell too. perhaps they would forgive him too.

Okay, so, I've noticed a lot of discourse between canon and fanon for the DC fandom (particularly the Batfam) and I agree with elements of both sides, disagree with some too, and understand but don't necessarily agree with certain things.

Like Romani Dick Grayson for instance. I agree that the canon portrayal of it was utterly appalling, mostly because it was written by someone (Devin Grayson, if I'm remembering correctly) with clear biases who had done very little research, as what was written was almost completely based on harmful stereotypes.

As someone who's not white (or straight), I know what it's like to be misrepresented in media like this, how confusing and hurtful it can be. So what I'm writing next isn't coming from a privileged place of 'suck it up and stop being a snowflake.' It's just my perspective which may be flawed and I'm open to being corrected if I'm missing anything.

Also, disclaimer, while I'm not white, I'm also not Romani, so I'm definitely not an authority on any of this.

So, let's get started:

A lot of people say that fanon shouldn't make works with Romani Dick Grayson due to it's origins. While I understand that, I also disagree.

Because most works I've read where Dick is Romani tend to be well researched and coming from a place of love and respect, unlike canon. They also do what they can to avoid falling into tired tropes or harmful stereotypes, again, unlike canon.

Of course, any work where the person who's creating it isn't the race/ethnicity that they're representing may not be perfect, because respect and understanding don't always go hand in hand. But I think that so long as they're willing to listen to constructive criticism on the issue from those with the perspective they lack, then it shouldn't be too much of an issue?

If fanon were doing the same thing as canon did with this representation, then I'd be against it. But instead, they're trying to make something good out of canon's mess. Though I could be missing something so please feel free to comment or message me if I am.

To me, fanon presenting Dick's Romani heritage with the love and respect the original author should have is similar to when fanon explores the sexual assault storylines that occurred in DC with the gravity and care the original writers failed to.

Now, in cases where they write Cass as a glorified prop, Duke as a generic background character, or Damian as a feral creature in need of "domestication," I totally get where people are coming from with wanting to shut that down. It's lazy, harmful, racist and gross as hell. I don't fuck with any of that.

But with Romani Dick I don't see (again I could be missing something so please tell me) many, if any, harmful stereotypes in the majority of fanon works.

Which is why I think Romani Dick Grayson can be a good thing when in the right hands. But, as someone who's not Romani it's hardly my place to say what the right hands are, this is just me saying what I've seen, if I'm wrong, then that truly is my bad and I apologise in advance.

The fact that she’s the loml aside, I am maybe the biggest fan ever of alisha fics, and if you’re active in cmblr or pedro pascal fans or challengers tumblrs and so many more audiences you have for sure seen her and i love her <3

It’s hard to pick my favourite alisha fics so I picked two: sobriquet (spencer reid) & canine tendencies (sirius black)

@mggslover: lover is a pillar of criminal minds tumblr and it shows with how well her fics embody the characters! I remember reading lover’s fics before I even started writing on tumblr, and it was such a gateway drug for the criminal minds fanfic rabbithole I went down after, I will always recommend lover’s fics if you want something fresh and new.

My favourite fic of lover’s is probably: stuck (spencer reid & aaron hotchner & derek morgan)

@mariasont: a titan of the cmblr industry!!! And I’m sure anyone who follows me follows maria too, especially if you’re in the market for spencer, hotch, or even papa rossi fics. Her events are unmatched (I’m sure you can tell that this event is a poor approximation of things I love about maria’s), and I’m sooo incredibly jealous of her prose, it’s amazing.

Fav maria fic is: schrödinger’s relationship (spencer reid)

@reidrum: I think any spencer reid fic enjoyer has read a fic by her, they’re so incredibly popular and for a reason. Characterisation is something I can get really stuck on, but it always feels incredibly effortless in her fics, even when you can tell that a lot of thought has been put into the work. Highly recommend just going through her masterlist because it’s SUCH a fun time!

@aureatelys: ok I first discovered denise because of her jesse (tlou) fics and they actually changed my life. Like I’ve become insane about him and she is responsible for so much of that. Her dialogue is so true to the canon of a character despite her ability to really extrapolate from any part of the source material!

@esote-rika: I saw someone call erika the queen of early seasons spencer fics and thats sooo true its crazy. And as a proud early seasons spencer stan I ofc had to add her to this list because her fics are sooo masterful at convincing anyone that he Fucks, so if you aren’t yet, give them a try. Also, erika writes amazing chip taylor fics, which is so incredibly needed because there are so few of those, and I love them.

My favourite fic of hers is definitely: in the secrecy of his room (spencer reid)

@ellecdc: such a severe lack of marauders fics on my account, but I will always direct people to her account if they’re in the market for one, they’re so amazing. My personal struggle with marauders fics has always been the lack of a strict canon, which can make it difficult to keep the characters in a cohesive universe and tone. But she is so incredible at making the characters feel real and fleshed out while incorporating the fanon elements of them.

Instead of a fic recommendation, I’m recommending her whole hockey player!remus au, which starts with this fic.

gale as a professor at blackstaff academy

i have to say that at first i wasn't too sold on the (then still fanon) idea of a professor ending because of gale's own prior anecdote about being irked by his previous students and their inadequacies.

i thought it might not be a good fit for him as far as professions go.

but reading the epilogue files, i have come around on it.

i think it's just one more way in which he's really grown into himself, become content with who he was in the past, the mistakes he made and what he has learned from them, and the person he wants to be in the future:

Player: You? A teacher? I'd hardly say you set the best example for impressionable young wizards... Gale: I think it makes perfect sense. devnote: Surprised you wouldn't recognise this, a tiny bit offended you don't trust him to do this Gale: Who better to warn of the perils of misusing magic than someone who was once only a wayward sneeze away from destroying a mid-sized settlement? devnote: playing up to his past a bit, you can imagine this is how he acts with his students Tara the Tressym: Don't remind me of those terrible times, Mr Dekarios. My blood pressure has only just recovered.

a few more cute banters & things we learn about gale and his new teaching position:

tara swipes at students who fall asleep in gale's classes, which he himself doesn't mind. he, too, slept through some of them (like his calishite lessons):

4. his students find him somewhat intimidating due to his backstory with mystra and the orb:

Gale: Well, that was quite lovely. I'm glad you're as pleased to see me as I am you. Gale: I have to say, I'm quite grateful to just be 'Gale' for the evening. Gale: I fear my students find me somewhat intimidating, due to my erm, explosive former reputation. I seem to put the fear of the gods into them. devnote: He plays up to his reputations a bit, so he isn't overly surprised Gale: Or the fear of Mystra, to be more specific. Gale: I surrendered the Crown of Karsus to her, as I told you I would. And in return, she cured me of the orb at last. Gale: Even now, I struggle to put the feeling into words. It was like exhaling for the first time, after holding my breath for so very long. Gale: Of course, I haven't clarified with my students that the orb is no longer a threat. The legend of my explosive capabilities is an excellent means of controlling a classroom. Too good, if anything.

5. he wants to teach his students that there is fun in studying magic:

Gale: I spend most of my time trying to convince them how much fun the study of magic can be, but it'd be easier to crack a smile on an intellect devourer than some of my pupils... devnote: Despairing a little, doesn't understand why they aren't all as passionate as he was Player: Or on a mind flayer, perhaps... Gale: Smiling may no longer come easy to you, but I've seen how your tentacles twitch at my jokes. Even the ones I'm not entirely certain I was trying to make... devnote: Last sentence a tiny bit self-conscious, aware that people sometimes find him ridiculous. Gale: Still, I hoped my students might be a little more open to the playful side of such magic.

An Elegy For One Roderick Usher/The Haunted Palace (Chonny Jash)

Insufferable, the sight of such a miserable wretch as he/A friend at once alive and stone-cold dead/A musician of the string, he compelled his guitar to sing and at last/And for the first – I heard such frightful, dreadful, doleful, dismal, intensely conscious dread/He said:

"GODD. Okay, okay. OKAY. So this song is sung by the albums narrator who is also the protagonist for the Edgar Allen Poe story, The fall of the house of Usher! Where he retells said story. It quotes from / recites the poem in the story 'The haunted palace' several times in it's lyrics. The first thing that REALLY fucks me up about this song is that the songs narrator (In the small fandom, called the fanon name 'Matthias' for simplicity) is the creator of the fictional band that performs this album, almost all are characters from classic gothic story; ie Jekyll and Hyde, Frankenstein, Dracula.. And you could gather that in doing this there's a therapeutic element to it, relieving the guilt and trauma they gained from those stories. In the song (and the story) Matthias and Roderick Usher recite each other poems and tell each other stories to try and relieve the pressure of their situation. However, Roderick (and his sister Madeline) still die. So, the implication here is that the band (Named Gothic whore) is in memory of Roderick, in some way. (In the album there's the 'Fallen motif' which, in my own interpretation- mind you, marks the beginning of a part of a narrative or something important to a narrative. In this song it plays right at the end) But that is all fandom backstory that fucks me up, let me get more into the sauce of the song itself. Between original verses, 'The haunted palace' is recited by Roderick usher. The recital of this getting more and more intense and stressed as the song continues. After he dies, Matthias takes over reading it. It's a small difference, since it's all technically sung by the same person with only a difference in audio effects between characters, but once you know it's there... It fucks you up. The only instruments in this song are string instruments because in the story, it's mentioned that Roderick can only stand the sounds of certain stringed instruments!!!!!"

1. Intelligence & Strategic Mind

Canon

Dazai is a genius tactician, one of the most intelligent characters in Bungou Stray Dogs. His ability to manipulate situations, people, and enemies into doing exactly what he wants is nearly unmatched. This is evident in:

• His strategic dismantling of the Port Mafia from within.

• Outsmarting Fyodor multiple times.

• Planning several steps ahead, such as preparing contingency plans even when captured.

Dazai does not flaunt his intelligence for praise; instead, he lets his results speak for themselves. His intelligence is not about being effortlessly overpowered but about careful planning, psychological manipulation, and reading people.

Fanon

Fanon Dazai is often portrayed as an omnipotent, godlike mastermind who can never be outsmarted. Many fanworks suggest that he always knows everything in advance, never faces real struggles, and can predict events with supernatural precision. This version of Dazai removes any tension or stakes from the story, making his victories feel too easy.

2. Suicidal Tendencies

Dazai’s suicidal tendencies are deeply tied to his existential crisis. He doesn’t seek death purely for comedy; rather, he desires a meaningful death that would provide an answer to his existence. This one I really really like bc I love how the biggest aspect of Felix is that he’s no pushover and he always will say it as it is, no matter who the person is or the consequences it has. For anybody that follows me on my qftim blog, again I can’t stress enough how it still baffles me that this aspect was excluded- this isn’t to say that he isn’t nice, but I think being bratty and harsh is what makes Felix! It’s such a cute element I wish that was kept in fanon, but I understand wanting to focus more on the cute cat aspect. I think it just bugs me personally bc I own cats and I know how fussy they can be Lmfao
