We need more weird historian rep in Doctor Who. The companions are too normal when faced with the prospect of time travel. I want a companion who makes a list of super specific historical destinations related to their dissertation. I want somebody whose first reaction to finding out that the Doctor is a time travelling alien is to create a Microsoft Word document and ask, ā€œWhat caused the Late Bronze Age collapse?ā€

Kotoko and her connection to Danteā€™s Infernoā€™s Satan
Disclaimer: This is just about symbolism and I know how it sounds but I promise Iā€™m not trying to imply anything or demonize her! I love Kotoko! Ive just been repeatedly noticing details about the parallel for several months now and I just really want to bring it up! This is just an analysis of the details MILGRAM has provided for it. Iā€™m incredibly sorry if I make a mistake!
Kotoko has a lot of parallels to Danteā€™s Inferno Satan, especially in relation to Es.
To make sure weā€™re all on the same page, Danteā€™s Inferno is a Christian poem that outlines the 9 circles of hell. MILGRAM directly references Danteā€™s Inferno by quoting it in all the t2 door arts.
Tumblr media
ā€œAbandon all hope, ye who enter.ā€ A quote derived from a sign at the gate of hell in the poem.
Each ring of Hell contains sinners with different levels of sins, and each ringā€™s sin was meant to be worse the further inside you go. Ive seen a couple theories that each prisoner correlates with a specific ring of hell. (Ex: Haruka is ring 1, Limbo; Yuno is ring 2, lust; etc)
But Danteā€™s Inferno only outlines 9 rings, what about our 10th prisoner, Kotoko?
While it could be that sheā€™s again the ā€œoutsiderā€ to the other prisoners, the last section of the 9th ring of Hell is significant because it is the center of Hell, containing Satan. So it could be reasonably argued that Kotoko correlates with it.
MILGRAM already has a TON of religious references. One that Iā€™ve seen pointed out is how it seems the cover art of each novel is a reference to a famous Christian art piece.
Tumblr media
The Es in each novel seems to be where Jesus relatively is. Remember that Jesus is both the son of God AND God. God gives sinners their judgements which sounds very similar to Es and how they're giving the prisoners (the human sinners) their verdicts.
Plus, the quote Milgram quotes is on the doors the prisoners are entering, and in Danteā€™s inferno, itā€™s on the gate of hell so you can compare or theorize that MILGRAM is a parallel to (or straight up is) purgatory. And Es, being the one who decides the verdict, parallels God.
Also, her t2 VD is named ā€œYONAH,ā€ which is the masculine version of the name Jonah. Not only does this relate to her themes of masculinity again, Jonah is a name that originates from Hebrew origins which means ā€œdove.ā€
It is also a reference to the book of Jonah. A main theme of this book is ā€œJonah wants God to operate on his timeline [...] He wanted God to dole out punishment on his clock instead of according to God's plan. Yet God showed Jonah that in his infinite wisdom, he can't and will not be rushed.ā€ Which is pretty much exactly what happens in YONAH, and also once again compares Es to God.
Danteā€™s Infernoā€™s Satan was an angel, a splendid being, apparently the most perfect of God's creaturesā€¦ an ā€œAngel of light.ā€ We/Es deemed Kotoko innocent in t1. She had the highest innocent percentage in t1 too because a lot of people thought her murder was justified. You know, the most perfect of Godā€™s creatures. The most perfect out of the prisoners.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
ā€œWe really can work together.ā€
But then Satan tried to usurp God.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
ā€œIf you donā€™t have the strength on your own, let me take care of it. Es! I can do it in MILGRAM!ā€
Kotoko wants to be the prison guard because Es isnā€™t capable in her eyes.
Satan was ultimately sent to Hell and punished as "the ultimate sinner" for his betrayal of trying to usurp God.
Tumblr media
We are now punishing Kotoko for her attempts to judge the prisoners herself and ā€œusurpā€ Es. It works even better now that she has the highest guilty percentage in all of MILGRAM so far as the ā€œultimate sinner.ā€
As a lot know, Fuuta also has tons of religious references too. (Ex. His VD is titled Baptism by Fire) By him also passing judgements onto people, you could say that he was trying to play God.
What is that saying about us, the audience, then? And our parallel/foil to Fuuta/Kotoko?
Danteā€™s Inferno as a whole is very much based around the idea of ā€œevil will be punished,ā€ which not only encapsulates Kotokoā€™s ideals but MILGRAMā€™s as well. It makes sense that MILGRAM says that Kotoko is a perfect parallel to the facility.
(I also wanna mention that there's something that could be said about the holy trinity in relation to Es + the audience + jackalope. For example, how Jesus is God in the flesh and Es is the audience "in the flesh," by acting as a personified version of us to interact with the "human sinnners" but I feel like I might be going into tinfoil hat territory.)

For this week's post, I have a very special announcement:
As of the minute of my posting this,
this blog
is officially
A DECADE OLD!
To mark the occasion, I've gone back to my old sketchbook and (at long last!) made a scan of the first drawing I ever posted here...
Tumblr media
...which I've used as reference for a redrawšŸ„¹
Tumblr media
I've been through a lot in the last decade (as you can imagine), and, consequently, the nature of my love for and appreciation of the novel has changed so much through those years; with each subsequent time I've read it, A Tale of Two Cities has meant a different thing to me and held a unique place in my soul, tailored to its shape at that point in time.
That's part of why it has been such an immense, immeasurable joy to have this blog as a constant, a place for me to capture those shapes (and their changing over the years) by providing the good people of Tumblr's A Tale of Two Cities fandom with posts of all varieties. What a wonderful and rewarding place it has been for finding community in which we can all share our collective appreciation for this incredible novel. So if you're reading this, thank you! And I hope this blog has been able to provide for you anything like what it has for me!
Now this post is done, why don't we call a health, dear reader; why donā€™t we give our toast?
Tumblr media
Many more posts - and years - to come, then!

Yakuza as Radiants: Kiryu
So, one of my favourite things to do is combine my hyper fixations into one large ball, so that's what I did. My post got much too long though, so now it's only one character per post.
Haruka's Post
Kiryu - Stoneward Choosing an order for Kiryu was hard because it's hard to think of Kiryu NOT abandoning his oaths. Kiryu is the poster child of abandonment. Fuck man he has a game called the man who erased his name. However, despite all of this, Kiryu is a pillar of strength and dedication. People look up to him and is extremely assured in himself. No matter what happens in the future, he is a legend of the Yakuza and a name that will go down in history. Already kind of is, to be honest.
Part of Kiryu's entire reason he abandons everything is because he can't leave anything behind. He tries to leave the Yakuza behind but is in EVERY SINGLE GAME, even the ones where he's not a main character. As much as he tries to avoid it, he gets caught back up in it because he can't leave it behind. He cannot abandon this responsibility to the Tojo as much as he tries.
But let us consider the second ideal of Stonewards: I will be there when I'm needed.
This is MEANT to encourage Stonewards to rely on each other and others, but Kiryu is always there to rescue the Tojo, even to help lay it to rest. It takes a few calls, but he always goes back to help. You can say how he abandoned the orphanage and Haruka (listen, I started this by saying I can't imagine him not breaking oaths LMAO) but in five he DID find his way back to Haruka to protect her from danger she didn't really know she was in. In his simple defense, he thought himself leaving WAS the best way to protect everyone and it's not like that thought process is unfounded. And I like to think that if he didn't 'die' at the end of 6, he would have gone back like he wanted to.
I would also like to draw your attention to this epithate from chapter 58 of Oathbringer: ā€œAs a Stoneward, I spent my entire life looking to sacrifice myself. I secretly worry that this is the cowardly way. The easy way out. - From drawer 29-5, topaz.Ā ā€
Kiryu has faked his death... how many times now? More than that, how many times has he tried to go off the grid to pretend he was someone else? This is a Kiryu ass quote if I ever heard one. Would he say it? No, but name one person in Yakuza who talks about their vulnerabilities.
Now, I have not played yakuza 8, but I am aware of a scene where Ichiban yells at Kiryu and tells him to drop the tough act, and to take care of himself. To rely on others and not be an idiot.
This is all to say that I feel that Kiryu's entire character growth (or therefore lack of) is what would make him such a STRONG Stoneward Radiant. Being a Radiant is a journey!
If we thinking Kiryu as a Radiant in his world and timeline, then I can't imagine him swearing past the second ideal, which he would only get toward the end anyway, imo.
However, if we put Kiryu into Roshar, I can imagine him going much further. From the beginning, he knows his Oaths are important past mere promises. If a spren told him "if you take this action I will die" I have a hard time seeing Kiryu willingly murder a spren. A lot of Kiryu's abandonment and actions are due to him being human and on Earth, not in a world of spren and magic.
I think Kiryu would take his oaths incredibly seriously and follow them to his ultimate demise. Kiryu cannot simply "you're better off without me" walk away from his bonded spren - not without killing them, which I don't think he could bring himself to do. I think he would make a lot of the same mistakes that he makes, but I think he would hold on tighter to his friendships. I think he would be a little less like Atlas. Just as great as always, but more willing to reach out to his friends when he needs him, more willing to keep in touch even when they're not in danger. Maybe for once Kiryu could be pushed to have friends, a support system, and let himself be happy.
Now, for a moment, let us consider a Windrunner Kiryu, as I know people may think that the "I will protect" oath fits Kiryu. And I agree! I think Kiryu is a protector. Kiryu has always been honorable, and fought at least semi fairly (depends on your opinion of "fair" lol), but he was an honorable fighter. He would beat up opponents but then hold out his hand to pull them to their feet. I can see why an honor spren would consider bonding him.
But Kiryu is no scout, nor spy. He has little tact and deals with problems head on. He puts lots of people in danger, both on purpose and by accident. I think there's a world where Kiryu could be a staunch protector, but with each new game that comes out about Kiryu, it gets harder to believe that world is within reach.
An oath to protect would get broken faster than an oath to be where he is needed, I believe. This I firmly toss my coins in that Kiryu is a Stonewards.
Also, this is neither here nor there and has little to do with my argument, but it's just hard for me to picture Kiryu flying around. Or at least both flying well and enjoying it. However, being able to reshape stone and alter the hardness of objects? That's something I can see Kiryu doing, even if he forgets about it half the time.
So this has gone one much longer than I meant it to, but I hope I made a good defense for why I believe that Kiryu would be a Stoneward in the Stormlight Archives book series! Let me know if you agree or disagree and let's talk about it!

superfly's not as opposed to physical affection as one may think. he never personally sought after it himself, but he's grown accustomed to his siblings seeking it from him and genuinely doesn't mind receiving it. he grew slightly less tolerant of it after their incident when they first approached humans but that's mostly just out of his need for all of them to keep up a 'toughened' facade than out of any actual distaste for physical contact. ( and even then, there are some moments when it's just them in their home where even he'd lapse and forget his own intolerance. )

[ID: four digital drawing that make up a comic featuring Ivy Alexandria and Gunpowder Tim.
The first panel shows Ivy in front of a doorway with her arms out and an angry expression on her face. She has a speech bubble which reads ā€œNo firearms in the Archivesā€ in all uppercase. The walls behind her are made of patched together metal with a poster that has Ashes face on it and words reading ā€œBannedā€ in all uppercase and underlined.
The second panel shows Tim in front of a similar patched together wall, standing with his hands on his hips, upset. He has a speech bubble that reads ā€œWh- thatā€™s a BASELESS [all-caps reads: baseless] accusation! What makes you so sure that I-ā€ his speech is then cut off by the onomatopoeia of a bullet falling to the ground and bouncing. It reads ā€œClinkā€ in all uppercase.
The third panel shows both Ivy and Tim from the side, they are facing each other and the top of Ivyā€™s head does not even reach Timā€™s shoulder. The top of the panel has text reading ā€œ*stray bullet rolling down corridor noises*ā€ and Tim and Ivy have a shared speech bubble which is just filled with an ellipsis.
The final panel show them in the same positions as the third, but now Tim says ā€œOk but what if-ā€ which Ivy cuts off with ā€œNO.ā€
Ivy has light skin and dyed red hair with an undercut. The shaved part of her hair has metal panels. She wears a dark red button up under a brown waistcoat with a black skirt over maroon tights and brown boots. Her eyes are black and her speech is written in red.
Tim has light skin and chest length curly brown hair and short facial hair. He has dark marks around his yellow eyes. He wears goggles on top of his head. He has on a white collared shirt under a brown waistcoat with brown trousers and a lighter brown long coat, over which he wears a belt. His shoes are also brown. His speech is written in light brown.
End ID]
For suggestions, Tim and Ivy? Anything with Tim and Ivy I love them so much

okay so while arguably i should add this to the bonus list i feel as though personally i see it in enough posts (though not always under that name) so i think. perhaps controversial but...
the interpunct is going in the main list unless anyone feels really strongly against it
. ? ! , : ; ā€“ ā€” - Ā· [ ] { } ( ) ' " ... / < >
for now it's going between the hyphen and brackets, that might change based on the other poll i have running!
update:
. ? ! , : ; ā€“ ā€” - Ā· [ ] { } ( ) ' " ... / < >
22/22
the interpunct (also known as the interpoint, also known as the middle dot, middot, centered dot, or centred dot) is a point that looks like this [Ā·]! the interpunct is used for a variety of things, it has a super interesting history as being used *before* the space was used for interword spacing
take a minute for that to sink in actually. Ā· <- this bad boy was around before the FUCKING SPACE (things were written moreĀ·likeĀ·this in classical latin) isn't that wildāø®
but, i hear you say, "but punctuation completionist, why should that matterā€½ you have never reblogged a post in classical latin!" and to which i say. uh rude. i could if i wanted to dude. but secondly, there are actual uses in english (and also other languages too :)
in english, the interpunct is sometimes used in place of a decimal place in formal writing. it's also been used instead of a full stop (basically a period) in certain documents historically! it is also in twitter screenshots o noticed. that's the main reason i was thinking of doing this lol ʐ>
in other languages though it has more important usages! firstly, it's used for gender-neutral endings in french (say as in the word "musicien", the gender-neutral form would be "musicienĀ·ne" which has the masculine form with the interpunct and then feminine ending) which is important to me specifically but it's also used in many other languages such as catalan as the punt volat, used between two l's to indicate that it is pronounced differently than the double l sound (that prononciation being called the "ela geminada" & being pronounced more like the english l as opposed to a y sound)
it's also used in chinese, hokkien, tibetan, ethiopic, franco-provenƧal, modern greek (as well as the classical greek), japanese, latin, and MUCH more that i literally cannot go over because there are so many uses... like so many languages use it for real. if i were to guess right now while i am not looking at the list i would guess ~15ā€“20 languages use it. that's a lot
mostly i am just asking because it's in some twitter screenshots though :/
. ? ! , : ; ā€“ ā€” - [ ] { } ( ) ' " ... / < >

Things have changed.
On the afternoon of the 14th of September, at a roughly estimated 14-15 years of age, Lilith was taken to the vet for the last time.
You may wonder why we still have this fundraiser up. It was never about having enough funds to care for her, but rather, paying off the costs for her care that we had already accrued. As I said in the original version of this post before the edit, just because she's gone, it doesn't mean that the debt also disappears. As such, the post will continue to be spread as normal, until all of the debt is cleared.
I will be queuing this to post multiple times a day for the next several days, and will continue to do so so long as it is relevant. I do not particularly care if this bothers anyone; you don't have to look at it if you don't want to. It's easy enough to ignore if you have XKit or whatever; I just ask that you reblog it at least once if you plan on never having to see it again.
