Six-ish Sentence Sunday

Back at it again with a six-sentence Sunday post! Its been a while, but I'm very hyped to share a snippet from Chapter 2 of King of My Heart, which is about 70% done now!

(Also for context, in KOMH Damien = Death the Kid, for those who may not know 😎)

Dinner is served at 6:00 pm sharp. 

The dining room is inviting, if a little small for a royal beach house, but much like the living room, the rear wall has been repurposed as a floor-to-ceiling glass window to allow a magnificent view of the ocean, and Soul supposes there are worse ways to enjoy a meal. 

Like, for example, if there were no such lovely ocean-view and it was just a regular wall, there’d be no way for Soul to ignore the metaphorical daggers that Damien seems intent on glaring at him all throughout the first two courses of the meal. 

The princess - Maka, he mentally corrects himself - is seated across the table from him, completely oblivious to her bodyguard’s scowling disapproval from where he sits, on the settee behind her - or perhaps she’s aware, she’s just had years of practice ignoring him. 

He doesn’t ask why Damien isn’t eating with them. For all he knows, it's because he’s an eldritch creature who sustains himself on the negative emotions of humans rather than the flesh and plant matter of carbon-based organisms. 

“Now then,” Maka announces, breaking the awkward silence. She’s polished off the last of the second course - beef carpaccio - and sets her knife and fork down upon her plate. “Let’s talk about the reason you’re here. The…” she pauses, her head tilting to the side and her pigtails sweeping the tops of her shoulders as she does so. “Arrangement.”

Beach day beach day beach day soapghost 🥳🥳

(Also this is to compensate for the previous SoapGhost fic I never finished! 🫵😎)

The 141 decides to go to beach for their leave, since it’s the summer, and they hardly had spent enough time with each other like this. The beach was out in the sea, and it didn’t have much surveillance or tidying since not many people go there. It was shoddy, but the guys had the place all to themselves which was all that mattered.

Soap had been out swimming when he felt something brush past him, it was most definitely a shark. Soap’s been through a lot, but sharks? This was his time off, he’s literally 95% naked, no protective gear on, in the water. He hated sharks, when he was little, he’s heard of stories about people getting attacked by sharks too. It rattled him. Sharks were a whole new thing compared to bullets.

Soap panics. When someone panics, they can lose the capability to do even the simplest things, in this case, it’s staying afloat for Soap. He was already too far from shore, too far- can’t swim back..

Immediately Soap starts flailing his arms around, the shark- it brushed past his leg again- he didn’t want to get eaten- oh fuck.

…

In the distance, on the shore, Ghost saw abnormal activity coming from the waves far off in the distance. When he squints, his suspicion was answered.

“Johnny?” Ghost squints his eyes before they flew wide open. It was definitely Johnny. And he was drowning. Nobody was around to help- Price and Gaz were inside, so they couldn’t have noticed, Roach was at the bathroom presumably taking a large dump, Ale and Rudy? Nowhere to be found.

Immediately without a second thought, Ghost plunged into the water to chase after Soap. It’s only when he pulled Soap to safety he realizes his body abandoned all sense and his primal instinct was.. not what he expected.

Doesn’t matter. Johnny is safe.

…

After Ghost had saved Soap, Soap had felt obligated to pay Ghost back. Luckily for Soap, he didn’t have to wait long. During a mission gone wrong, Ghost had gotten shot and mildly wounded. He refused to go to medical, and after a ton of pleading and convincing- Soap got to patch Ghost up. Soap was like his personal nurse that week, constantly hanging around Ghost and caring for him. Ghost was touched by the gesture.

Ghost wasn’t recovering as fast as Soap hoped though, and soon Soap found out why; Ghost couldn’t sleep.

Of course. Soap thought.

Soap usually left Ghost alone not wanting to bother him too much, but he had no idea how much Ghost needed his warmth. So on a cold Thursday night, Soap found Ghost having a particularly bad nightmare. Almost by instinct, Soap tried to back out of the room because he saw Ghost without his mask on, but upon second glance, he changes his mind and stays.

Without Ghost, the tough exterior that houses the fragile Simon within, Ghost without the mask looked like a broken man, someone who doesn’t deserve what life has thrown at him from such a early age at all. Because Ghost doesn’t show fear. Simon does.

It’s little moments like this that make Soap feel special and lucky. He quietly tucks himself into bed along with Simon, who was in obvious distress, ragged breathing from his haunting dreams. Soap gently starts stroking Simon’s hair, whispering softly, “It’s going to be alright, Simon.” “It’s me, Johnny. I’m here.” “Nothing will ever hurt you ever again, I won’t let it.”

And in truth, the last sentence wasn’t just for comfort. It was Soap’s vow to the world, that no one could break someone already so broken in Soap’s watch. Never again. Not as long as he still has a drop of blood in his body.

When Simon’s breathing calmed down, Soap tries to pull his hand away to let Ghost rest, only to find a hand grabbing Soap’s. It was Simon, clutching onto Soap’s hand in his sleep like a lifeline.

Simon wanted Soap to stay. He wanted Soap to stay.

Soap couldn’t suppress the smile that formed on his lips.. the big bad Ghost needs him. Well thats not a opportunity that comes around everyday. So Soap slips back into the sheets, cuddling Simon close before drifting off to sleep himself.

Soap knew who he’d dream of that night.

Summer’s here 😎

Tuesday morning we went for our respective rides. I’m doing the final scouting on the rides I plan to do with John. Jose went out on one of his epics with the group. It was a beautiful day for it, albeit a little windy.

We were both pretty tired so not much happened in the afternoon except a bit of washing. Around 5pm we headed to the beach. We should have probably gone a bit later as the sun was still quite strong. We keep forgetting sunset isn’t until 9:30pm. After a drink at the beach it was home for nibbles on the balcony.

Wednesday morning we went for a swim and breakfast at the beach. Jose then had a Narrabeen call and i headed off to our Spanish Conversation Group (Jose joined us later). Today was our last session until September, summer break. after our session we all headed to Albons for lunch (us on our mtbs). We went to a place I’d been wanting to try for a few years now.

Lunch was great, it’s probably a good thing we weren’t breathalysed on the way home. We stopped at the beach for a glass of cava and then pretty much crashed for the rest of the day/evening at home. We had a late visit from Martijn which was nice.

How to be a biker ? That’s a damn good question. I don’t know when or where it happened but somewhere along the journey of mine , I stopped sizing up different riders and bikers. I know what kind of riding I like , I know what kind of gear that works and I could care less about the latest fashion or the latest trend. Don’t get me wrong, I’ll try new things but if it isn’t “form and function” , I probably will have little use for it .

When I get asked, how do you dress like a biker , what are you supposed to wear ?? What kind of music do bikers listen to ? What kind of motorcycle do “real”bikers ride ? I kinda throw up in my mouth a little. If your asking these questions your missing the whole point. I can’t speak for the whole world but at least for the past 30 years in the States, the motorcycle is a “sovereign” symbol. You don’t touch another man’s bike right? This comes from the “built not bought” hot rod era and if someone could actually afford to walk in a dealership and buy a brand new machine (back before financing) you just don’t touch the bike . Not to mention that the machine your looking at is probably the only thing that man owns.

When I entered the culture “real” bikers , “real” riders were poor , so the fashion reflects that , a good pair of jeans , jacket and lid are expensive so they are usually worn out and constantly dirty . The music changes with the times but typically you will hear bluesy rock , but that’s not a rule, my generation was a great time for music culture with the advent of grunge and hip hop , there’s no rule here with music and that’s kinda the underlying point here … the trade off for spending your rent money on a new rear tire so you could get to thunder beach was always the free grouping of free individuals. For a lack of a better term anarchy. Not break laws and riot poser anarchy, but the real ideology, the real lifestyle of , earn paper, live and let live , OH and btw we’re all poor asses too but if you can get here there’s a party… Being a biker means being your true self , being inclusive, and actually riding your motorcycle. Think about how most bikers in the American culture are always referring to their peers as “brothers” “sisters” , this is supposed to separate the bikers/riders from the citizens and cagers , sooo as the machine is a sovereign symbol, the man or woman is sovereign.

I ride every day, I don’t own a cage , I have been riding for a minute now and every day I have a “near miss” or an incident or an obstacle or something that reminds me that I’m gonna die on this machine. I have , and so will you, come to terms with this fact. If you want to be a “real biker” you need to do a fearless moral inventory, decide what your principles are and stand for them. Being a biker is not what you wear or what music you listen too , heck it’s not even about what brand of scoot you ride . It’s that you do ride .

Don’t worry about buying the right jacket, or if you look good in the helmet, you need to get a motorcycle, and then you need to ride it 🤘😎

i’m going on a one week break!

hey hey everyone! like the title says, i’m going on a one week break / hiatus for this month of april starting tomorrow. i won’t be active for those seven days + probably the succeeding days since i would like to reserve those for resting, and i would have a lot of catching up to do with my classes 😵. this isn’t a mental health break or anything, this is because i’m ‘bout to go on a trip to see my relatives, and probably go on a beach 😎 woo!

my estimate is that i’ll be consistently online again around the 21st or 22nd, but that doesn’t guarantee that i’ll be posting sims content again so soon. i’d still hope to see your guys’ stuff on my dash, though!

that being said, wcifs will be paused starting tonight (i’m gmt+8), and any other asks will not be answered. this also goes for my cc finds blog, @brindletonboofinds​. i will also put that side blog to hold until my return.

Can't help but think Kyakoda is the kind of couple that in a modern AU would unironically join a nudist colony. Just let it all hang out there in a super chill and happy way, ya know? Anyway curious your thoughts.

Thank you for the ask, anon! 😝 Tbh you had me cracking up at first but the more I thought about this, the more I could actually see where you’re coming from. 🧐

Both in-universe and in modern AUs, I tend to think of Kyakoda as being childhood sweethearts—or very platonic childhood friends who gradually start pining for each other until the tension explodes like a powder keg. They grow up in a tiny town, get married right out of high school maybe because they have a little ‘happy accident,’ i.e. Sokka, and hectically juggle work, college, and family through their twenties and early-to-mid thirties. Stressful and demanding? Definitely. But it’s also the kind of simple, wholesome life that they both really want with each other—and it’s sublimely rewarding.

Regardless, Kyakoda find themselves as empty-nesters before they’re forty. And while helping Katara settle in for her first year of college (Sokka is already a sophomore), they start thinking…now what?? ☹️ Wtf are we supposed to do without our babies? Are we officially old and useless? But after spending some time walking around campus and remembering what it’s like to have that kind of radical freedom during which Kya gets invited to six different frat parties and Hakoda is swarmed by an entire sorority, they realize that they’ve still got a lot going for them. 😎

On the way home, they make a list of all the things they want to do and all the places they want to see. There’s no real reason for them to live permanently at the South Pole anymore (or maybe Alaska in a real-world modern AU), so they decide to go for a change of climate and a change of pace…

As Kyakoda soon learns, Sun’s Out Buns Out Naturalist Community on Ember Island is both of those things. It’s surprisingly chill and casual, and they find that sliding into the whole go-with-the-flow atmosphere comes easily to them. The rules are helpful and not very difficult to follow, all things considered—although at first, they do get chastised for not-so-sneakily checking each other out. Kya tries to argue that she should be able to ogle a handsome beefcake so long as said beefcake is her husband, but the community charter says otherwise. Generally, though, they fit in just fine. The freedom—physical and otherwise—is a breath of fresh air, and their pre-nudist-colony jobs (Kya as a nurse, Hakoda as a contractor) lend themselves well to the practical work they do around the ‘naturalist community.’

But most of the time, they’re just hanging loose and enjoying life. 😉 In the mornings, Kya lays a towel out on the sand and reads, buns bare under the sun, while Hakoda lies beside her and whittles Cool Water Tribe Stuff (TM) out of pieces of driftwood. Some evenings, Kya attends a thrice-weekly beachside yoga class to keep herself in shape, and on the off-nights she joins Hakoda on a run, then ‘supervises’ his nightly workout (usually by sitting on his back while he does pushups and getting herself bench-pressed and deadlifted in place of his barbell and weights).

Sun’s Out Buns Out isn’t a destination for swingers, but Kyakoda still makes friends and attends little parties, just letting everything hang free all the time. They answer their door and tend their garden and talk with neighbors about the weather, content with being free and open. Sometimes they miss the snow back home, but when it’s drizzling, they like to head outside and walk along the beach, letting the water run over their skin—and if no one’s looking, they’ll hide under a palm tree and completely break the community’s very strict ‘no PDA’ rule. 😏

i’m going on a one week break!

hey hey everyone! like the title says, i’m going on a one week break / hiatus for this month of april starting tomorrow. i won’t be active for those seven days + probably the succeeding days since i would like to reserve those for resting, and i would have a lot of catching up to do with my classes 😵. this isn’t a mental health break or anything, this is because i’m ‘bout to go on a trip to see my relatives, and probably go on a beach 😎 woo!

my estimate is that i’ll be consistently online again around the 21st or 22nd, but that doesn’t guarantee that i’ll be posting sims content again so soon. i’d still hope to see your guys’ stuff on my dash, though!

that being said, asks will be paused until tonight (i’m gmt+8). this also goes for my main blog, @brindletonboo​. i will also put my main blog to hold until my return.

Remember when I said I associate this song with the plane crash fic? I couldn't help myself, I had to name the funeral fic after it :,)

There are a few layers to why this title works in my brain, the first being that the lyrics discuss coming to terms with your own mortality, and accepting it, which just... felt right for the funeral fic? And then we have the apathy that specific lyric implies, which in this case of this fic, I felt was representative of T's mom, and how despite showing up and making her public appearance, she really couldn't care less about being there.

Finally, the vibe of this song kinda just, works? It doesn't exactly have the same energy as the funeral fic itself, but I love the way it encompasses the whole collection of plane crash stuff.

There's something about the singer begging the "captain" to open up before the pressure gets to them just... it's Robaire. It's early Robaire, and it's post-crash Robaire.

The beach fic!

I talked about this one a bit in the end note on AO3, but to sum it up, it's Jordan Fisher, it's a summery song, and it's my headcanon for the song they were filming a music video for in the fic!

While I was writing the beach fic, I went on a Jordan Fisher BINGE. I watched all of Liv and Maddie, To All The Boys 2 (even though I haven't seen the first one), and most importantly, both Teen Beach Movies. Since it wasn't horrifically hot, but still felt like summer, I spent a lot of time listening to the Teen Beach soundtracks, and this song scratched an ITCH, I'm telling you.

I had such a hard time naming the kidnapping fic, I'm not gonna lie. This song doesn't have a whole lot of significance to the fic itself, I just like it a lot.

It is a little nod to something that got cut from the fic though! This fic went through so many changes, more than I could ever hope to explain (seriously, the finished fic is completely different from the original plan. The only thing that stayed the same was the location), but for a while, there was a second fight scene planned for after Jesse and Z show up, and Hannah (named Lily at the time) was going to break Jesse's nose, hence the nosebleed!

Aside from that, I really like the implications this title has, if you think about it as being something Aaron T. believes.

I could talk about the planning that went into this fic for AGES, but the title? The way I came to it was pretty simple. It was my first fic in the fandom and rooted directly in canon, so I wanted the title to reference a song from Turning Red!

U Know What's Up felt like the perfect song, because in a way, it's almost a joke? Since it's a pandapocalypse retelling, I imagine the "up" in question as being the 4*Town members while they're still hooked into their harnesses, with the title being like, an interaction almost?

"You know what's up?"

The capitalization of UP completely and entirely an accident, but the fic had been up for 12 hours by the time I noticed, so I just decided that it was totally and 100% on purpose 👀

For those of you who read this fic on tumblr, and not AO3, you may not know that I wrote this fic after having to put down two of my pets, so I was kinda really upset, and I thought it was really, really funny to name it after this absolute BANGER from Rio.

Plus like, the fic is about Taeyoung grieving the loss of his rehab centre's elderly pigeon so, ha ha bird movie title.

Plus plus, I liked that the title was kind of a nod to like "fly high 😔✊🕊"

Now for the most recent fic! In all honesty, this one is the one with the least interesting story behind the title. I wanted a song that would vaguely feel like the fic if you listened to it, but turns out it's pretty hard to find songs that feel like unconsciously shoving emotions down, so I compromised with this one.

Plus, it has a nod to parental issues, which Jesse may or may not have in this fic.
