pairing: hyunjin x gn!reader w. 0.8k genre: comedic fluff summary: your boyfriend, hyunjin, comes home on christmas day from sbs gayo daejeon after surprising you with a new look. he's shaved his hair and gone blonde. warnings: reader mourns the long hair but is very supportive. playful teasing a/n: this is literally just how i'm coping rn
New year and comeback season always meant new looks and fresh things. However, this was not expected.
You were at home, as always. Christmas was a busy day for Hyunjin, away at SBS Gayo Daejeon performing and looking pretty for the cameras. It was routine, but you always enjoyed tuning in and seeing the talent from him and his group as they performed.
There was a red carpet to unveil looks, but you were preparing some food for dinner that night. Things were getting hectic in the kitchen and time passed you by.
But your phone started to buzz. And buzz. And buzz.
Unable to ignore the repeating notification noises, you stopped what you were doing to figure out what had your phone blowing up. Notifications from posts and texts from friends... what was happening?
Everyone was talking about Hyunjin. As normal as it was for him to get the world's attention, the sheer amount of notifications was concerning. Something was obviously going on.
So, you opened your feed. It didn't take more than a single scroll for the picture to hit your timeline. On the red carpet, looking sharp and stunning, was Hyunjin. Beautiful outfit, many piercings, eyebrow slit fresh.
Oh, and his head was completely shaved and dyed blonde.
You stared at your phone in shock for what felt like forever. The two second clip of him looking stunning for the cameras replayed over and over as your brain tried to pick up the pieces.
You knew he wouldn't have his phone on him and able to look at it for a bit, but that did not stop you from blowing up his texts. Nothing outrageous or upset, but a lot of spammed questions and confusion got the message across pretty well. It was the least you could do.
Reeling from the overwhelming knowledge of your boyfriend's look, you decided to put your phone down and get back to cooking. You had to take your mind off of it or you might go insane.
The whole time, all you could think about was him. How drastic it was, how hot he looked, the whole bit. Hwang Hyunjin was taking up your entire mind.
Any task that you tried to do seemed impossible to entirely focus on. Every moment had you wanting to grab your phone and scroll, finding every possible photo of him. Hyunjin being a world-famous idol did not make this any easier.
Giving in, you resigned to doom scrolling. If you weren't able to focus, you wouldn't get anything done. Might as well just drool over how good he looks, you thought.
When he finally got done with the show, he was able to text you back briefly. He returned your texts with spam of his own, a bunch of apologies and letting you know when he'd be back.
Waiting for him to come home seemed impossible. The performance that the group gave was phenomenal as always. However, nothing could prepare you for seeing the look in person. Time passed dreadfully slow.
As you had finished up dinner, you heard the door swing open. You turned around to see Hyunjin out of breath. He waved to you, a shy smile on his face as he hung up his coat and took off his shoes. He approached slowly, looking uncertain.
"Do you... like it?" He finally asked, his voice shaky and small.
Staring at him for a few seconds, you smiled and nodded. "Of course I do, but why didn't you tell me?"
"It was supposed to be a surprise! A Christmas gift, you know?" Hyunjin tried to explain, breathing still heavy from running, "I thought it was a really big change, and I was worried you'd say no."
You looked at him incredulously. "Why would I say no to you wanting to try something new?"
"I... don't know." Hyunjin climbed into a chair, tilting his head back and closing his eyes as he fully caught his breath.
You watched him for a few moments, quietly observing his new look for yourself. He looked stunning, his sharp features accentuated by the new hair and the piercings grabbing your eye.
Although, you had something on your mind. "Oh, your poor hair," You lamented jokingly, "If you had warned me, I would've cherished it more if I knew it was the last time I'd see it."
"Aish, you'll see it again," Hyunjin groaned, standing up and looking at you, "Just not for a while."
"You better grow it back out," You retorted, walking over and running your fingers through his soft, short hair.
Hyunjin grinned and shrugged his shoulders. "We'll see."
"Hwang Hyunjin."
"Okay, okay, sorry."
As you plated your dinner with him, you looked over and snickered. "God, you really do look like a chestnut. Changbin was right."
"What did he call me?" Hyunjin scoffed, "I'm not a chestnut."
"Chestnut, dumpling, flour boy. You're becoming the real grocery list."
"I am not!"

âSo... ten babies, eh?â
Callum visibly cringed, eyes darting around the kitchen. Runaan and Ethari had disappeared again, leaving them to prepare dinner.
âLike, I said, I, uh, didnât mean it like that-â Face bright red, he sighed, putting the knife down on the chopping board and turning to give her his full attention.
âOh, how did you mean it?â She struggled not to laugh at him, his flushed appearance and stammering beyond adorable.
âWe were talking about what a baby might be like if a human and elf had kids.â Callum sighed, rolling his eyes. âAnd then Lira decided to tease me-â
âJust talking about any random elf/human babies, were you?â
âEm, well, no... I guess not.â He laughed awkwardly, rubbing the back of his neck. âBut they started it!â
âSo, three kids got the better of you and youâre wanting ten?â She tried desperately to not to laugh.
âI told you, I didnât say I wanted us to have ten.â He rolled his eyes, sighing at her teasing, before he grew a little more serious. âBut, well, I meant what I said, I want us to be together. To have a life together.â He took her hands, smiling that soft, sweet smile of his. âAnd yeah, I guess that would involve, you know, babies. If you want them, that is.â
Raylaâs heart raced as she squeezed his hands and stepped closer to him. âI⊠I do.â She sighed happily, pressing her forehead against his. âI do want all of that with you, Callum. I love you.â
She wanted forever with him and had for longer than she could remember now. With Aaravos imprisoned and Callum free from the stain of dark magic, forever finally seemed like a possibility.
âI love you too,â Callum sighed happily, slipping his hands around her waist and kissing her softly. âBeing with you- Us here together... itâs pretty near perfect... this nice, quiet life.â
âI donât think ten babies would mean a quiet life.â She teased, slipping her hands up his chest and around his neck.
âHmm, good point.â He chuckled, pulling her closer. âPride Grandpa Ethari could help. And Runaan.â Grinning, he caressed her waist âThough he didnât look impressed with the idea of ten grand kids.â
âI think he was probably a bit more concerned with you talking about us making babies at all.â She ran her fingers through his hair, resting her forehead against his. âAnd I am not having ten babies, thank you very much.â
âNa, that makes sense.â He smirked. âObviously at least ten.â
She arched an eyebrow at him, unable to keep the amused smirk from her lips. âAt least?!â
He shrugged, leaning in to her and kissing her softly. âWhat, you want twenty?â

11 DAYS FROM CHRISTMAS 2024:
âThatâs not how itâs supposed to work.â Mingyu slapped Vernonâs hand away from the tree they were decorating. âItâs supposed to be symmetrical, not whatever youâre doing.â
Vernon had to admit he wasnât really paying attention. Their dorm auntie, the one who came around once a week to clean up the place, had baked them gingerbread men as a Christmas gift, and the smell felt like it had seeped into the walls of their dorm. It was a nostalgic smell, one that took him back to his childhood, new york and-
âVernon?â Mingyu waved a hand in front of his face. âAre you even listening right now?â
He blinked, brought back from his thoughts. âSorry, hyung. What?â
Mingyu could only let out a deep sigh, moving to place the bauble where he intended it to be. âYouâre like this every Christmas. If you miss her so much, why donât you just fly back?â
Vernon didnât really know why he wasnât flying back. He certainly could be, they were off work for the holidays and a plane ticket back wasnât hard to find. He would be doing himself a favor, putting himself out of misery and finally seeing his childhood best friend. The thing was, he wasnât really sure if Y/N wanted to see him. He shrugged. âI donât miss her.â It was a lie and everyone in the room knew it.Â
CHRISTMAS DAY 2003:Â
Everyone who knew either of them would say they were smart kids for their age. Both only five, they whispered secrets to each other like little middle schoolers would on the playground.Â
âMy parents say Iâm going to Korea.â Vernon whispered to Y/N as they watched a christmas movie. âForever.â Vernon always had a dramatic, theatrical side to him, even as a child.
Y/N could only frown. âForever? Why?â She couldnât imagine her best friend moving anywhere without her. âAm I going too?âÂ
Vernon mirrored her frown on his own face. âI donât know.â Sensing her sadness, he reached over and gave her a hug. âIâll visit every year.â He promised.Â
âEvery christmas.â Y/N insisted. She had always loved christmas above all else. âSo we can watch movies again.â
Vernon agreed. âOkay. Every christmas. Itâll be like-â He paused, his young mind searching for the word. âTradition.â He smiled at her, proud of the big word.Â
âPromise?â Y/N stared at him with wide eyes, reaching out with her pinky, extended. âPinky promise me.âÂ
Vernon grasped her pinky with his, shaking it firmly. He felt like a grown up, making one of those important business deals. âI promise.â Turning back to the screen, he let out a whine when he realized they had missed the best part. âWe missed the part where the grinch screams down the mountain.â He complained. âI wanted to watch that part.â
Y/N got up, searching for the remote. âIâll turn it back.âÂ
Their dynamic never changed, even as they grew older. Vernon walked through life, Y/N following behind him with eyes filled with admiration, gently nudging the boy whenever he got distracted and began walking off-track. It stayed that way even with the distance, until one Christmas, Y/N woke up and Vernon had not returned.Â
CHRISTMAS DAY 2016:
âMom?â Y/N called as she walked slowly down the stairs. She had returned home from university for the holidays and was confused when Vernon wasnât at his usual spot to welcome her home. âWhereâs Vernon?â He was usually back from Korea by now.
She didnât like the look of pity her mother was giving her. âHe didnât tell you, honey? Heâs been so busy with work, looks like he canât fly back to join us for christmas this year.â
She felt her heart sink. She had been looking forward to spending time with him, even if it was just a couple of days out of the year. âOh.â Of course, she understood. His work was important and she was sure the kpop industry couldnât be easy. âThatâs okay. I guess he mustâve been too busy to tell me.âÂ
--
âWhat are you still doing here?â Joshua frowned at Vernon, who was lying down on his bed. âShouldnât you be in New York by now?â He was used to Vernon flying back to New York every christmas since they had met.Â
Vernon let out a huff. âNot going back this year, Josh.âÂ
âWhy not?â His friend pressed, confused. Vernon was usually so excited to go back. âIsnât your friend going to be sad?â
âI canât miss any more practice before our comeback. One Christmas should be fine.â Vernon explained, although his voice betrayed his disappointment. He had been looking forward to going back home, to be able to see Y/N again. He thought to himself that one christmas couldnât hurt, right?
One Christmas missed turned into two. Then four. Then the timing felt too long and awkward and Vernon just never got the confidence to ever go back.
10 DAYS FROM CHRISTMAS 2024:Â
Korea was beautiful underneath a sheet of snow. Y/N had landed last night, having made up her mind to give living in Korea a try. Ever since graduating university and landing a job as a screenwriter, her friends and family had always urged her to try working for the Korean film scene.Â
She supposed she had always just avoided the country because of Vernon.
Her new job writing for some K-drama started after New Years. She thought maybe spending Christmas in a new place would bring back the mirth and good cheer the holiday used to give her, but she knew she was here for a different reason. A selfish and pathetic one. It burned her, that a part of her still wished to bump into Vernon after all these years. She knew he was doing well, SEVENTEEN was soaring through new heights and she had kept tabs on his ongoing success. It was the only way she kept going: his large internet presence sometimes made it feel like he never even left at all.
It hurt her the most that he could be doing so well without ever seeing her again.
Rounding the corner to the coffee shop, she rubbed her raw hands to regain heat. Ordering, she was relieved to find out she could still hold a conversation in Korean. It had gone rusty, the only people she ever used Korean with back home was Vernonâs dad and sister.Â
âHello?â Someone from behind her tapped her on the shoulder. âDo I know you from somewhere?â
She was greeted by a slightly taller, blond man, sporting black rimmed glasses and holding a cup of iced coffee. Her mind short circuiting a bit from the sudden Korean, she paused, trying to recollect her thoughts before replying. âI donât think so?âÂ
The manâs eyes widened in sudden recognition. âYouâre the girl in the Christmas photos!â He exclaimed with wonder, pointing at her as if they were long lost friends.
She squinted, giving him another look over. âUm..â She frowned, quite sure she didnât know this man.Â
âSorry.â He smiled sheepishly at her, extending his hand for a handshake. âThat probably came out wrong. Youâre Vernonâs friend from New York, right? Iâve seen you in the pictures on his wall.âÂ
She blanched, all of a sudden feeling very light and disoriented. âIâm sorry.â She smiled politely, still racking her brain furiously for the guyâs name. âHow do you know Vernon?â
âIâm Seungkwan.â He explained, dropping her hand. âVernonâs bandmate.â
She let out a sound of realization. âAh~â She knew who he was. âSeungkwan. Sorry, I didnât expect you to have blonde hair now.âÂ
Chuckling at her shy admission, Seungkwan felt strangely sad to see the girl in Korea. âWhen did you come to Korea?â He asked, knowing Vernon would lose his shit if he found out they had been in the same location for a while.Â
âI arrived just last night.âÂ
He left out a breath he hadnât realized he had been holding. Okay, at least it hadnât been very long. âYou should come to our Christmas party.â He suggested, knowing Vernon would be there. âItâs being hosted at Coups hyungâs house this year, and everyone will be there.â
Y/N shook her head. âI wouldnât want to make things weird.â She already caught on to the fact that Seungkwan knew all about her and Vernonâs falling out, or lack of one.Â
âYou wouldnât.â He insisted. âYou must come. Iâd hate to see you spend Christmas by yourself.âÂ
It didnât take much for Y/N to relent. She supposed a part of her had been looking for a chance to see Vernon again. âAlright. Iâll stop by and say a quick hi to everyone.âÂ
Seungkwanâs smile was contagious as he beamed, grabbing a napkin to scribble Scoupsâ address onto it and handing it to her. âItâs at 7pm on the 24th. Bring a present- something small.â He hurriedly gave her all the details as he left, mumbling about being late for a company meeting and how lovely it was to finally meet Vernonâs mystery girl.
Holding the napkin in her still freezing hand, Y/N felt utterly shipwrecked as she watched Seungkwan leave. Nine days was enough to prepare her heart to see Vernon again, right?
12 HOURS TILL CHRISTMAS 2024:Â
The frost in the air bit at Y/Nâs face and neck as she quickly rang the doorbell to Seungcheolâs home. It was smaller than she had expected it to be, homey and comfortably situated in between two other larger houses.Â
âY/N!â Seungkwan greeted her as he opened the door, tugging her in. âOh, look at you. You must be freezing. Come in, come in.â Taking her coat from her and hanging it up, he beamed down at her. âIâm so glad you actually came.âÂ
She bit back a smile, taking off her shoes. âI couldnât turn down an invitation from Vernonâs friends.âÂ
âVernonâs in the living room with the others.â Seungkwan pointed down the hall, directing her over.Â
Y/N paused, loitering in the hallway between the door to the living room and the door to the kitchen. She felt strangely pulled towards the kitchen, knowing itâd be safe without the chance of a potential run-in with Vernon. Turning decisively towards the kitchen, she pretended not to hear Seungkwanâs deep sigh as he followed her in, knowing the boy was disappointed she had run away.Â
âItâs the girl from Vernonâs photos!â Hoshi sprung off the kitchen island to greet her, handing her a cup of mystery liquid.Â
She sniffed it before cringing away at the strong liquor scent. âThatâs me.â She mumbled, shoulders sagging a little. âDoes he really still have photos of me up?Â
Everyone in the kitchen nodded simultaneously. âItâs been on his wall since we were trainees.â Joshua informed her, his eyes holding a teasing glint. âEvery time we move places he just puts it back up.âÂ
Y/N didnât really know what to do with that information. âOh.â She replied, looking down in her cup, thinking. âI didnât know that.âÂ
Seungkwan let out a loud sigh once again. âYou should go talk to him.âÂ
She looked up.Â
âPlease.â He added, his tone bordering on begging. âHeâs been so grumpy. Especially during the holiday season. I got a pillow to the face for asking him a simple question yesterday.â He grumbled out, complaining about his moody roommate.Â
âWhat did you ask him?â Joshua asked, mildly curious.
Seungkwan shrugged. âJust if he was going back to New York.â
âOf course he threw a pillow at you.â Joshua rolled his eyes. âIâm surprised he didnât just deck you, with how you were antagonizing him. You know very well he hasnât gone back in years.âÂ
Y/N watched the conversation silently, gagging quietly as she sipped the concoction Hoshi had handed her. She absorbed the information diligently, her eyes widening the more information she got on Vernon. Distance had turned him into a stranger - and now, well, she couldnât really say she knew him at all. It was strange, having to admit someone she used to read like the back of her own hand was someone she now didnât know at all.Â
âIâm going to the living room.â She decided, having had enough of the topic. If she kept listening to them talk about Vernonâs struggles and heartache about leaving her in New York one more minute she might find herself leaving for the night. Being in the same room with Vernon was just going to be awkward silence anyways. She knew he wasnât brave enough to approach her. At least not tonight.Â
--
âY/N!âÂ
It was Mingyu and Wonwoo who greeted her from the couch, the two of them in the middle of an intense round of what looked to be Mariokart. They waved at her from their place, inviting her over to sit next to them. She was painfully aware of Vernonâs eyes staring at her from his place on the rug, fingers busy with a random puzzle that was lying out.Â
âHi guys.â She smiled, sitting down, laughing when Mingyu pushed Wonwoo in an attempt to disrupt his driving.Â
âWe didnât know you were in Korea for Christmas!â Mingyu exclaimed. âGood thing Seungkwan bumped into you when he did and invited you over.âÂ
She glanced at Vernon, who was doing his best to pretend like he wasnât interested in their conversation. âYeah. I moved here recently actually. Got a job writing for a TV show.âÂ
Vernonâs eyes widened as he fixed his stare against the white rug.Â
âThatâs cool.â Wonwoo smiled at Y/N, happy for her. âItâs good that youâre in Korea now.â He side eyed Vernon, frowning when he realized the boy hadnât even spoken to Y/N. Nudging him with his foot, he gestured with his gaze. âDid you hear Vernon? Y/N got a job here.â
Vernon nodded stiffly before standing up. âI think Cheol hyungâs calling me, Iâll- Iâll go see what he wants.â And just like that he was gone, rushing out of the living room.Â
Wonwoo looked apologetically at Y/N. âIâm sorry about that.â
She shrugged, although her heart had cracked at the movement. âItâs okay.âÂ
âMaybe now that youâre in Korea you guys can be friends again?â Mingyu suggested quietly, although a part of him wasnât really certain about it. âMaybe?â
âMaybe.â She mumbled, taking another sip of her drink, feeling her face flush with heat. Anger or embarrassment, she couldnât tell.Â
Maybe it was the alcohol speaking, but Y/N could feel her lips start to loosen the more she sat with Mingyu and Wonwoo, the party heading later into the night.Â
âYou know I used to hate you guys.â She admitted all of a sudden, jolting both boys out of whatever conversation they were having.Â
âWhat?â Wonwoo frowned. âWhy?â
âI hated Vernon for choosing you guys over me.â She lowered her eyes to the floor, feeling ashamed. âI know itâs childish of me, but hating you guys was how I dealt with it. I couldnât bring myself to hate Vernon for his own actions.âÂ
Mingyu looked at her with sad eyes as he patted her on the back gently. âI get that.â He reassured her, and she looked over at Wonwoo who was nodding as well.Â
âDo you still hate us?â Wonwoo asked, his voice calm.
She shook her head. âNo. So I guess Iâm just-â She paused. âConfused now.â
She hated how pitiful their looks made her feel as she sat there, nursing her half finished drink, mind spinning. Perhaps it was time to leave her silly childhood infatuation with Vernon in the past. It seemed like he had done so already anyways.Â
10 HOURS TILL CHRISTMAS 2024:Â
Vernon felt like throwing up the moment he saw Y/N enter the party. It felt like a vision, something he had conjured up within his own mind, until the others had greeted her and shattered his vision into reality.Â
âTalk to her, you moron.â Seungkwan nudged him. He had retreated from the living room into the kitchen the moment Y/N had sat down with the others on the couch. It physically stung to be in the same room as her, with all the knowledge that he had failed her and their once cherished friendship.Â
He took another gulp of his drink instead of answering Seungkwan.Â
âShe clearly still loves you, yâknow.â The boy continued upon hearing Vernonâs silence. âOr else she wouldnât be here. And didnât you always tell us Y/N would follow you around like a puppy whenever you were back home as kids?âÂ
Screw Seungkwan and his amazing, awfully selective memory.
âSo?â Vernon mumbled, rolling his shoulders back and feeling himself tense. âThings change.â
âYouâve changed.âÂ
Vernon stared at his friend, thrown off by the sudden harsh truths. âWhat?â
âI donât think sheâs changed at all, Vernon.â Seungkwan observed. âItâs you whoâs changed and you who has to fix it.â He paused. âOr at least explain it to her. Why you donât want to be friends anymore.âÂ
âI do want to be friends.â He stated plainly.
Seungkwan cut his eyes at him, exasperated. âThen tell her that. Jeez, bro. You suck at this.âÂ
âWeâre swapping presents now!â Seungcheol poked his head out from behind the hallway door. âEveryone in the living room!âÂ
Vernon grabbed his present from the counter and headed in behind Seungkwan and Joshua, turning the box in his hands as he examined the poor wrapping job he had done last night. He had bought the most generic gift he could find, knowing it was going to be a random swap with the boys. The thing he hadnât accounted for was Y/N showing up - and now it had thrown both his present and him off the game.Â
âGrab a pair.â Seungcheol announced loudly to everyone in the room, as there was a mad scramble for partners.Â
Vernon found himself standing alone in the midst of his bandmates all already coupled up, limbs tangled together in an awkward mad dash for a partner. His eyes met the only other person with a partner and he stifled a pained cry.Â
âIt looks like you and Y/N are exchanging gifts this year, Non.â Seungkwan shot him a large grin from his spot next to Mingyu.
He knew this had to be preplanned - fate couldnât be this cruel, right?
âGo on.â Seungkwan poked him in the back, urging him to approach Y/N, who suddenly seemed to be very captivated by a nearby portrait of Seungcheol and Kkmua, placed on the shelf next to her. She stared at it intensely, although Vernon knew she was still hyper-aware of the fact that he was slowly walking towards her. She had that funny way of darting her eyes towards the person she was avoiding while not facing in their direction.Â
âY/N.â Her name sounded so foreign yet so familiar across his tongue as he spoke.
âVernon.âÂ
Her voice felt like coming home.Â
âHere.â He placed his gift in her hands as he took hers, turning it awkwardly in his hands. âWhat is it?â He asked, shaking it gently.Â
The corners of her mouth lifted. âTelling you would defeat the purpose of it being a surprise.âÂ
âYou said that last time too.âÂ
He watched her stiffen at his words and he immediately regretted bringing up the past. They both knew last time had been years ago.Â
âI guess I did.â She replied stiffly, turning his gift in her hands. âWhatâs yours?â
âThought you liked your presents to be a surprise?â He recalled, remembering how she used to whine that he must wrap her presents, when the teenage him had insisted that just putting it in a bag would be fine.Â
âI do.â Her tone made it sound like she was just remembering that fact herself. She looked up and shot him an awkward smile. âI guess I donât really know what to say.â
âMe either.âÂ
He couldâve sworn he saw her face drop at his words.Â
They separated soon after, the uncomfortable silence taking over and suffocating them both out of the vicinity of each other. Vernon returned to his spot in the kitchen, picking at the pieces of takeout still leftover on the counter, listening to the others squabble over meaningless things.Â
He watched Y/N leave, feet rooted by the hallway door and mouth firmly shut closed - he didnât trust himself to say goodbye to her - he knew that if he had, a million unsaid words would have spilled out and the night would have ended terribly for the both of them. But it was the fear that kept him still most of all, as he watched her exchange numbers with Seungkwan, hugging the others and promising to keep in touch. He stayed as still as a statue as the door shut behind her.Â
âYou idiot.â Seungkwan turned to face him as soon as he locked the door.Â
âSeungkwan.â Seungcheolâs warning tone made Vernon look at him. He was sending a strong warning glance at the boy.Â
âWhat?â Seungkwan protested. âHe is being stupid.âÂ
âI think Iâm going to head back.â Vernon mumbled, grabbing his coat and hurriedly throwing it on, Y/Nâs gift clutched tightly under his arm as he headed for the door. âThanks for the party, Coups hyung.â He called behind him, shutting the door behind him and welcoming in the cool, biting winter air.Â
He released the pent up breath that had been choking him all night and furiously wiped away the tears that had begun to form the moment he shut the door behind him.Â
âIdiot.â He quietly chided himself. âSo stupid.â
CHRISTMAS 2018:Â
âAre you really never going back to New York?â Joshua prodded at his arm with an insistent jab of a finger.Â
Vernon hummed in response. âThereâs no point. My family prefers coming to Korea for the holidays anyways. They get to visit family here and everything.âÂ
âWhat about your girlfriend?â
Vernon turned his head to see Joshua sporting a shit eating grin. âYou know sheâs not my girlfriend.â
âMight as well be.â He shrugged, pointing at the various photos that featured her against his wall. âLook at your pathetic loving gaze at her in all of these photos. Youâre not even looking at the camera in any of these.âÂ
Vernon frowned at his comment, taking a good look at the photos and realizing Joshua was right. âDoesnât matter what I feel, hyung. Sheâs not my girlfriend.â
âSheâll never be if you donât go back.â Joshua suddenly got serious, as he shifted in his seat to look at Vernon better. âIs there an actual reason why you wonât go back? I know we were too busy the last two years but this year weâre free.âÂ
Vernon stayed silent even though the answer was clear as day in his mind. He was scared, terrified even. Terrified he had hurt her by neglecting her due to his heavy schedules, that she would slam the door in his face if he tried to visit her. âI donât want to see her hate me.â He finally spat out, cringing as he said it.Â
Joshua let out a tiny noise of understanding. âSo youâre avoiding her. Pretending so you donât have to deal with the consequences.â
âWhen you put it like that you make me sound like an asshole.âÂ
Joshua gave him a look that bordered on pitiful. âI donât know what to tell you, man.âÂ
âIâd rather remember her like this, yâknow?â He said, pointing at the way she smiled at him in the pictures on his wall. âInstead of-â
âShe might not hate you.â Joshua reminded him quietly from next to him.Â
âI really, really doubt that, hyung.âÂ
5 HOURS TILL CHRISTMAS:Â
It wasnât computing properly into Vernonâs head that you had just gotten him the one thing heâs been wanting all his life.Â
He had been ogling the Novation Launchpad Pro that was currently sitting on his work table for the last hour, not really believing what he was seeing with his own two eyes. Unwrapping it had been a heart attack in of itself, as he opened up Y/Nâs present to reveal the one thing that had been sitting on the top of his childhood wish list since he could remember. Even now, as a famous artist who could afford the splurge, he had never gotten it for himself, knowing it was a luxury and a purchase he didnât necessarily need.Â
âWhat the fuck, Y/N.â He muttered in disbelief, sliding his palm down his face as he continued to stare at the gift. It was fucking fantastic and exactly what he wanted, and it made him feel even worse about the whole situation.Â
She might not hate you. He recalled the words Joshua had told him one time, Christmases ago.Â
âSomeone who hated me wouldnât have gotten me this, right?â He said aloud to himself, reaching a timid hand out to fiddle with the launchpad controls. âHow did she even know weâd be exchanging gifts anyways?â And how on earth does she know I never got myself one? In what felt like a split second decision, Vernon felt himself walking towards the door of his apartment, sliding his shoes on and grabbing his keys - only one destination in mind. He had to fix this, somehow. Because there was no fucking way she still hated him.
4 HOURS TILL CHRISTMAS:
She wouldâve complained that the sudden doorbell at 3am woke her up but she hadnât really been sleeping. Y/N had been lying in bed with her eyes wide open since the moment sheâd gotten home, the bag of chocolates and various snacks from Vernon left on her kitchen counter. She had stifled a laugh when she opened it - even till this day, Vernonâs go to gift was still the same. Chocolate and snacks can never fail, he had told her, defending his choice of gift. Especially when you donât know the person too well.Â
She supposed that line made sense for their situation too.Â
âVernon?â She squinted at the figure standing on her porch in the dark. âWhat are you doing here?â She rubbed her eyes, mildly wondering if she was dreaming.Â
He rubbed the back of his neck awkwardly as he stared down at her. âYou got me the launchpad.âÂ
She blinked. âYeah.â
âHowâd you know?â
She stared back at him, stunned at his bluntness and the randomness of the current setting. âYou never shut up about it.âÂ
His mouth opened and closed again. She watched as he tried looking for words, his vocabulary ultimately failing him.Â
âCome inside.â She said quietly, noticing how the harsh winter wind blew at his thin coat. Dragging him gently inside, she shut the door behind them both, turning around awkwardly to face him. She never thought sheâd ever see him in his apartment - yet he looked so perfect.
âIâm sorry.â He mumbled, eyes darting around her place, taking it all in. âI know itâs late.â Glancing down at her pajamas, his lips quivered in a small smile. âCute.â
âWhat?â She stared at him indignantly, completely thrown off by his behaviour. âAre you drunk?â She reached out a hand to touch his face, trying to check his temperature, but he caught her hand in his before she could reach.Â
âIâm not drunk, Y/N.â He dropped her hand like it had burned him.Â
âThen what are you here for?â
She watched him moisten his lips as he stalled for time.Â
âI wanted to say sorry.â He finally said, his words tumbling out as if they had been held back for long enough. âI shouldnât have cut you off like that.âÂ
She thought sheâd have a more visceral reaction to the apology she had been waiting for all this time, but she didnât. âWhy are you saying this now? Itâs been nearly ten years, Vernon.âÂ
âI know. Iâm sorry.âÂ
Her shoulders sagged at his words and the sight of his dejected, ashamed face. âWhy didnât you come back? Or text me?â She asked him, pleading for an answer.Â
He finally looked up and met her eyes. âI guess I was scared. I got busy one year and didnât go back- and I neglected our friendship. And then-â He paused, his voice breaking. âI left, and time passed and staying away felt simpler than going back. No goodbye felt better than a bad one.âÂ
âIt wouldnât have been a bad goodbye.âÂ
He shook his head. âYou hated me.âÂ
She looked away, remembering all the times she had cursed him for leaving her behind when she was younger. âMaybe. But never for long.â She mustered all her courage to tell him her next words. âI loved you too much to hate you for very long.âÂ
Vernon blinked at her. âYou loved me?â
She hummed in response, still not quite looking at him. They stood there, by her door, in the dim lights of her apartment.Â
âHow did you even get my address?â She suddenly asked, forgetting he shouldnât have known where to find her.Â
Vernon stayed silent, his mind still reeling from the sudden love confession. She used to love me?Â
âVernon.â Y/N nudged him.Â
âOh.â He finally responded, although his own voice felt like light years away as his mind continued to reel. âI asked my sister. Didnât know you guys still talked.âÂ
âOh.âÂ
âYou used to love me?â He asked, incredulous, not quite believing her words. âWhy?â
She laughed, and the sound wrapped around Vernon like her hugs used to. âWhat do you mean, why? Of course I loved you. I followed you around like a lost kid our entire childhood.âÂ
âI loved you too, yâknow.âÂ
Her smile dropped as she paused mid-laugh. âWhat?âÂ
He took a step closer to her, unsure where the sudden confidence was coming from. Vernon searched her eyes for some figment of affection, for truth, for the way she used to look at him when they were younger. âI donât think I ever stopped loving you.â He finally admitted. âI definitely tried to, but your hold on me lasted through distance and time.âÂ
âMe too.âÂ
âWhat?â
âI never stopped loving you too.â

First Dance
James Potter x fem!reader
Summary: "I also thought itâd be a good moment to practice.â âPractice for what?â âThe wedding dance,â he replied, as if it were obvious, his eyes locking onto yours with such intensity that your heart tightened. âI want it to be perfect, because itâs the moment Iâll remember forever. Part 6 of Marry Me
Masterlist
The night was calm, wrapped in a serene air and soft light that streamed through the window, bathing the living room in the golden glow of the moonlight. The atmosphere felt familiar, with the marks of a busy day still evident: scribbled lists, flower samples scattered across the table, and the lingering scent of freshly brewed tea. You were in the final stages of wedding preparations, adjusting small details and deciding on things that didnât seem important until they were.
James, with his eternally messy hair â as if it had just come from a friendly battle with the wind â and those vibrant blue eyes behind his glasses, was sitting on the couch, scribbling ideas on a piece of parchment. He wore a gray sweater that looked even softer under the light, and you couldnât help but smile whenever you saw him like that, so focused and carefree at the same time.
It was then that soft music began to play on the small enchanted radio Sirius had gifted you. The melody was old, the kind that speaks of love in every note, full of nostalgia and tenderness. James lifted his gaze, and a slow, almost mischievous smile formed on his lips.
âThis... this oneâs perfect,â he said, dropping the parchment and standing up with the casual elegance that always seemed so natural to him. Before you could ask what he was planning, he extended his hand to you, his eyes sparkling with a silent invitation.
âJames,â you began, laughing, âthe roomâs a mess.â
âExactly,â he replied, with that slightly teasing tone you knew so well. âThis way, weâve already got a rehearsal for dancing in the middle of chaos.â
Without waiting, he took your hand and pulled you to the center of the room. His arms wrapped around you with a ease that made everything feel so right, as if the world outside could wait while you had that moment just for yourselves.
James wasnât the best dancer in the world, but the way he moved with you made it seem like he was. His steps were simple, but every movement carried a smoothness that melted away any hesitation. His fingers traced a small circle on your waist as he kept the other hand securely in yours, his thumb reassuringly stroking your skin.
âKnew Iâd make you dance one of these days,â he murmured, his face so close that you could feel the vibration of his words against your skin.
You laughed, resting your head on his chest, listening to the steady sound of his heartbeat, matching the rhythm of yours. âAnd you thought I wouldnât notice your escape strategy from the preparations?â
âMaybe,â he admitted, tilting his head to look at you with that smug smile you loved so much. âBut I also thought itâd be a good moment to practice.â
âPractice for what?â
âThe wedding dance,â he replied, as if it were obvious, his eyes locking onto yours with such intensity that your heart tightened. âI want it to be perfect, because itâs the moment Iâll remember forever. Just like this one.â
His words were simple, but carried so much feeling that you could feel the warmth rising to your cheeks. He, of course, noticed and chuckled, lowering his head to nuzzle his nose against yours.
âBesides,â he continued, with the mischievous tone only he could pull off, âI think I can add a few pirouettes to impress the guests.â
You lightly shoved him, laughing, but he only pulled you closer, his face completely lit by the smile that seemed to belong only to you.
The music played on, and the dance, despite being a little awkward at times, was filled with laughter and exchanged glances that didnât need words. James slowed his steps until you were practically still, gently swaying to the rhythm of the music.
âYou know,â he began, his voice lowering to a near whisper, âIâve never been great at planning big things, but with you... everything just makes sense.â
James rested his forehead against yours, breathing deeply as if capturing that moment in every detail. The soft melody filling the room seemed like the perfect backdrop to the world you had built together. There was no rush. Just the gentle sway of the two of you, following the rhythm of the music, and the comforting warmth of his arms around you.
âI promise this will be the first of many dances,â he murmured, his voice so low it seemed to blend with the beat of your heart. The touch of his lips against yours was brief, but full of a silent promise. He smiled slightly, a smile that was entirely his, somewhere between smug and absurdly affectionate. âIn our living room, in the backyard, wherever we are.â
You laughed, your laugh soft and almost shy. âEven if itâs in the middle of the street?â
âEspecially in the middle of the street,â he replied, his eyes sparkling with warm humor. âYou can bet Iâll pull you into a dance, even if traffic stops.â
âYouâre crazy,â you responded, shaking your head, but with the smile he always managed to bring out in you.
James tilted his head to the side, his expression softer now. âMaybe. But a crazy man completely in love with you.â
He held your hand between his, his thumbs lazily tracing circles on your skin. It was a simple gesture, but it carried the intimacy of years of shared understanding. James always had this way of making you feel like you were the only person in the world who mattered.
"Do you remember our first dance?" he asked, a glimmer of nostalgia crossing the blue of his eyes.
You smiled, warmth rising to your cheeks. "How could I forget? You stepped on my foot like five times."
James let out a laugh that made his chest vibrate, as if the sound was an extension of the love overflowing from him. "Five? You're being kind. I'm sure it was at least ten."
"But it was adorable," you admitted, your tone sincere. "Iâd never seen anyone so determined to make me smile."
"Well," he replied, pulling you a little closer, "I think I did pretty well."
You nodded, resting your head on his shoulder. "Very well."
The music changed, but you stayed there, swaying gently. Jamesâ eyes took on a more dreamy expression, as if he were putting together an invisible puzzle.
"I was thinking," he began, his voice low, almost as if he were sharing a secret, "when we have our own house... you know, with a big backyard, trees, and everything... do you think we could put one of those swing hammocks up? Iâve always imagined us swinging while we watch the kids play."
You looked up at him, surprised by the softness in his tone. "The kids?"
"Of course," he said, his smile widening. "Two, maybe three... maybe four, if we can handle the chaos."
"Four?!" you exclaimed, but there was more humor than shock in your voice.
James laughed, kissing your forehead tenderly. "Okay, maybe three. Or two. But theyâll definitely inherit your smile and my charm."
You rolled your eyes, but the warmth in your chest was undeniable. "Youâre already planning the Quidditch team, arenât you?"
"I admit it," he confessed, laughing. "But I was also thinking... do you think weâll still dance like this when weâre old?"
The question was simple, but loaded with meaning. You felt your eyes fill with tears, but you smiled, wrapping your arms around him even more.
"James Potter," you said, your voice shaky but firm, "if you ask me to dance, no matter how many years have passed, I will always say yes."
He didnât answer immediately. Instead, he lowered his head and captured your lips in a slow, tender kiss, but one filled with everything he felt for you. It was as if the world around you had stopped, and all that existed was the soft touch of his lips on yours and the warmth radiating from the love you shared.
When he pulled away, the smile was back, but his eyes were shining with emotion. "Youâre everything to me," he whispered, as if it were a long-held secret.
"And you are to me," you replied, feeling that the words were insufficient, but true.
James pulled back slightly, as if he had remembered something important. He slid his hand into his pocket and pulled out a small velvet box. His eyes sparkled with curiosity, and he laughed when he saw your expression.
"Itâs not what you think," he assured, opening the box to reveal a small star-shaped pendant, with a faint magical shimmer that made it seem to pulse with its own light.
"Whatâs this for?" you asked, touching the pendant gently.
"For you to wear on our wedding day," he said, his smile making your heart melt. "That way, youâll always have a piece of our starry sky, no matter where you are."
You couldnât respond. You simply hugged him again, feeling that no words could ever express how much he meant to you.
And in that moonlit room, with the soft music still playing in the background, you both knew that this was just the beginning of a life full of dances, smiles, and eternal love.

â roryâs first christmas | our little love series đ
merry christmas! đ€¶đ
find the twelve days of Christmas masterlist here!
You arrived at the house in Whitby just as the sun began to set. The car ride felt like it took foreverâfour hours of âAre we there yet?â and âHow much longer?â had even made Myle seem a little tired. But now you were finally here, and it was worth it.
The front door swung open, and Rich stood there, grinning down at you. âThereâs my favourite little troublemaker!â he said, holding his arms out wide.
You giggled, running toward him with Twix clutched under your arm. âIâm not trouble!â you declared, though the smile on your face probably didnât help your case.
âOh, I bet youâre not,â Rich said, scooping you up into a big bear hug that made you squeal. âMyle been the one giving your mums trouble on the way here then?â
âMyleâs good! Sheâs better than Mamma in the car, she complained a lot!â you said with a grin, twisting to look at Viv.
Viv gasped, pretending to be offended. âWhat did I do?â
âYou kept saying âwatch out, Beth!ââ you said, copying Vivâs voice and waving your arms dramatically. âAnd Mummy said youâre a backseat driver!â
Beth burst out laughing while Viv raised an eyebrow. âOh, you are definitely trouble,â Viv said, but her smile gave her away as she shook her head and carried the bags inside.
You followed Beth into the living room, your eyes going wide as you spotted the Christmas tree in the corner. It was taller than the one at home, covered in twinkling lights and shiny ornaments. âItâs so big!â you gasped, running over to admire it.Â
âNot as big as you,â Beth teased, ruffling your hair as she joined you by the tree.
âIâm not big, Iâm little!â you said, spinning around to look up at her.
âOh really? Who was it that ate an entire chocolate bar in the car and said they were still hungry?â
âThat was Myle!â you said quickly, giggling as Beth shook her head.
âRight, Myleâs got hands now, has she?â Beth shot back, grinning as she crouched down beside you. âCome here, Roo. I wanna show you something.â
She pointed to a few ornaments tucked near the middle of the tree. They werenât shiny like the othersâone was a little wooden snowman with paint chipping off, and another was a felt stocking with stitching that looked a little wonky.
âThese are from when I was your age,â Beth said, pulling the stocking off the branch and holding it out to you. âMade this one all by myself. Can you tell?â
You tilted your head, inspecting the uneven stitches. âItâs messy,â you said honestly.
Beth gasped, âMessy?! Excuse me, Miss Perfect, but that took me hours.â
You giggled again, your fingers running over the felt. âItâs kinda good, though.â
âOh, thanks so much,â Beth said, rolling her eyes. She pulled another ornament off the tree, this one a glittery ball with your name on it. âNow, this oneâs brand new. Grandad picked it out just for you. What do you think?â
Your eyes lit up as you grabbed the ornament carefully. âItâs mine?â
âYours,â Beth said. âBut you have to hang it up yourself. Thatâs the rule!â
Viv appeared then, carrying one of the suitcases. âWhat are we hanging up?â
âRooâs ornament,â Beth said, watching as you turned to look at the tree, deciding where it should go.
âPut it right at the top!â Viv said, but Beth shook her head.
âToo high. If she puts it there, sheâll grow up thinking sheâs a giant.â
You turned to her, your hands on your hips. âI am a giant!â
Beth burst out laughing, pulling you into a hug and tickling your sides. âYou are ridiculous, you know that?â
You squealed, twisting away. âStop, stop!â
âAlright, alright. Come here, Iâll lift you up so you can put it wherever you want,â Beth said, hoisting you up as you held the ornament carefully.
âHere!â you said, pointing to a branch near the middle.
âGood choice, Roo!â Beth said, holding you steady while you slid the ornament onto the branch.
When she set you back down, you turned to Viv and grinned. âNow itâs perfect.â
Viv nodded. âItâs definitely perfect now.â
âMummy, whatâs this one?â You asked Beth, pointing to a little star.Â
It was a slightly lopsided ornament of a star made out of popsicle sticks, painted in uneven gold with bits of glitter clinging to it, and a ribbon loop at the top.
âOh, thatâs an old one,â Beth said, reaching out to take it off the branch. She held it in her hands for a moment, her smile softening. âI made this with Nana June and Uncle Ben when I was little, just a bit older than you I think!â
âWith Nana June?â you asked curiously. You knew her name and a lot about her. She was always talked about in your house.Â
Beth nodded, crouching down so she was on your level. âYeah, with my mum, your Nana June. It was Christmas Eve, and we had a little craft kit she bought at the shop. Ben wanted to make a snowman, but I insisted on the star. Said it was more âChristmassy.ââ
âDid you fight?â you asked, giggling because you knew what Beth and Ben were like.Â
âOh, absolutely,â Beth said with a grin, tickling your side lightly. âBen said my star was rubbish, so Nana June made him make one, too. His wasnât any better, by the way.â
You giggled, âItâs kinda wonky,â you observed.
âWonky?â Beth gasped, âYouâve got so much to say about my crafting skills tonight, donât you? Little miss perfect!â
You giggled harder, holding the star up to Viv. âLook, Mamma, Mummy made this, and itâs wonky!â
Viv crouched down beside the two of you, pretending to inspect the ornament like it was some kind of antique. âHmm⊠I donât know, Roo. Itâs got character. I think itâs perfect!â
Beth pointed at Viv. âThank you! Finally, someone who appreciates fine art.â
You tilted your head at the star, turning it in your hands. âNana June helped you?â
âShe did,â Beth said, her voice softening again. âShe helped me hold the glue, and she made sure Ben didnât stick the popsicle sticks to the table. She was really good at that kind of thing.â
Bethâs smile grew a little wistful as she brushed a piece of hair from your face. âShe wouldâve loved you, Roo. She always wanted grandkids. Sheâd have spoiled you rotten.â
âLike Grandad does?â
âExactly like Grandad,â Beth said, laughing. âProbably even worse. Youâd have so much chocolate, youâd bounce off the walls!â
Viv chuckled, slipping an arm around Beth. âWeâd never get her to bed.â
You smiled, looking down at the star again. âCan I hang it up?â
Beth nodded, her hand resting on your back. âOf course you can. Pick a good spot.â
You looked at the tree carefully, finally deciding on a branch right near the front. You hung the star up gently, stepping back to admire your work.
âPerfect,â you said proudly.
Beth smiled, pulling you close and kissing the top of your head. âPerfect.â
âRight then!â Rich said, coming back into the living room, âWho wants hot chocolate?â
âMe! Me!â You said, jumping up from Bethâs lap, âI want hot chocolate!â
The next few days passed quickly with Beth, Viv and Rich keeping you occupied with Christmas activities and before you knew it, it was Christmas Eve. Your excitement was hard to contain as Christmas Day grew closer and closer.Â
You were practically jumping with excitement as Beth handed you a wrapped box while preparing for a movie night. âWhatâs this?â you gasped, eyes wide as you looked from her to Viv.
âItâs your Christmas Eve box!â Beth grinned, settling onto the couch beside you. âGo on, open it.â
Ripping through the wrapping paper with enthusiasm, you let out a squeal of delight. Inside, there were new pyjamas covered in little reindeer, a packet of hot chocolate mixed with marshmallows, a small stuffed penguin, and a tiny jar of glittery âreindeer food.â
âLook at this!â you exclaimed, pulling out the penguin and hugging it to your chest. âAnd whatâs this?â you asked, shaking the jar of reindeer food.
âThatâs for the reindeer!â Viv explained, âWe sprinkle it outside so they know where to land.â
You gasped, âCan we do it now?â
âIn a bit,â Beth said, smoothing down your hair. âFirst, letâs get you into your new pyjamas and make some hot chocolate.â
You dashed upstairs, Viv following close behind to help you change. It didnât take long with you rushing her. Moments later, you returned, practically tripping over your own feet in your excitement.
âLook! Iâm a reindeer now!â you declared, showing off the little antlers on the hood of your pyjamas.
âYouâre adorable,â Beth said, grabbing her phone for a quick picture. âAlright, hot chocolate time.â
You ran into the kitchen with Beth and Viv following close behind, you made Beth grab a chair so you could help Viv and be a little chef. Once the hot chocolate was made and gone, you, Beth, Viv and Rich bundled up in coats and scarves to head outside. Viv held the jar of reindeer food while Beth held your hand and led you outside. Together, you sprinkled the sparkly mixture across the snowy lawn.
âDo you think theyâll like it?â you asked, looking up at Viv.
âTheyâll love it,â Viv assured you, crouching down to help you spread the last handful. âThis will guide them straight to the house.â
Back inside, you helped Beth set out cookies and a glass of milk for Santa, carefully placing a carrot next to the plate. âFor the reindeer,â you explained seriously as if Beth didnât already know.
Finally, it was bedtime. You climbed into your bed, clutching the penguin from your Christmas Eve box and Twix, your face lit with excitement. âWill Santa really come?â you asked as Viv tucked the blankets around you.
âOf course,â Viv said, sitting on the edge of your bed. âBut only if youâre asleep.â
Beth sat on the other side, holding a storybook. âHow about a Christmas story to help you settle?â
You nodded eagerly, and Beth began to read, her voice warm and animated. But every few sentences, you interrupted with a new question.
âHow will Santa find me here?â
âWill the reindeer eat the carrot?â
âWhat if Myle and Rona scare him away?â
Viv stifled a laugh while Beth patiently answered each question. Finally, your eyelids began to droop, and your questions slowed. By the time Beth closed the book, you were snuggled deep into your blankets, the penguin and Twix tucked under your arm.
âGoodnight, Roo,â Beth whispered, kissing your forehead.
âSweet dreams, mijn meisje,â Viv added, smoothing your hair.
As they slipped out of your room, they exchanged knowing smiles. âThink sheâll stay asleep?â Beth whispered.
âNot a chance,â Viv murmured, but her smile was fond.
Downstairs, they got to work. Presents were carefully arranged under the tree, with a few special ones labelled From Santa. Viv arranged them while Beth teased her for overthinking it. Stockings were filled with small treats, and a handwritten note from âSantaâ was propped up against the mantel by Rich.Â
When everything was ready, Beth stood by the tree, her expression softening. âSheâs going to love it,â she said quietly.
âShe will,â Viv agreed, slipping an arm around Bethâs waist. âYour mum would have loved this too.â
Beth nodded, blinking back tears. âItâs just hard, you know? First Christmas without her.â
Viv hugged her tightly. âSheâd be proud of you, liefje. Youâre giving Rory the kind of Christmas sheâd have wanted.â
The house was still alive with the warmth of Christmas Eve as Rich emerged from the kitchen, carrying a tray of snacks. âWhat are you two doing sneaking around the tree like that?â he teased, eyeing Beth and Viv as they fussed with the presents.
âMaking Christmas perfect, Dad,â Beth replied, wiping her hands on her jeans. âSantaâs got high standards.â
âDoes he now?â Rich chuckled, setting the tray on the coffee table. âWell, you two might want to wrap it up before our little elf sneaks back down here.â
âShe wouldâve loved Roo,â Beth said, her voice barely above a whisper. âSpoiled her rotten, probably.â
âAbsolutely,â Rich agreed, pulling Beth into a one-armed hug. âSheâd be so proud of you, love. You and Viv are doing a brilliant job.â
Beth leaned into him, her eyes glistening. âThanks, Dad.â
âAlright,â Rich said, clapping his hands together to break the moment. âEnough of the soppy stuff. Whoâs got room for mince pies?â
Viv raised an eyebrow. âYou mean the ones Rory said were âyuckyâ?â
Rich laughed, shaking his head. âThat kid. More for me then. But you better save her a slice of that chocolate log, or thereâll be trouble tomorrow.â
âSheâs already trouble,â Beth muttered, but there was a fond smile on her face.
The three of them shared a quiet moment, the glow of the Christmas tree casting soft light over the room. Eventually, Rich yawned and stood, stretching. âAlright, Iâll leave Santaâs little helpers to finish up. Donât stay up too lateâyouâve got an early morning ahead of you.â
Beth stood, giving her dad a quick hug. âNight, Dad.â
âNight, love. Night, Viv.â Rich headed upstairs, leaving the two of them to admire their handiwork.
âYou ready for bed?â Viv asked, slipping her hand into Bethâs.
Beth nodded, glancing at the tree one last time. âYeah. Letâs make tomorrow perfect.â
Christmas morning began exactly as expected.
Your squeals echoed through the house as you sprinted into Beth and Vivâs room, jumping onto their bed with a burst of energy. âWake up! Santa came! Mummy, Mamma, wake up!â
Beth groaned, pulling the blanket over her head. âToo early, RooâŠâ
Viv peeked out from under her pillow, laughing softly. âSanta doesnât come this early in the morning.â
âYes, he does! Heâs already been, silly Mamma!â You insisted, bouncing on the bed. âI saw the presents!â
Beth reluctantly sat up, rubbing her eyes. âAlright, alright, weâre up. But youâve got to cuddle first. Five more minutes, Roo.â
You huffed dramatically but crawled between them, your giggles making it impossible for Beth and Viv to keep up their sleepy charade.
Soon, you couldnât contain yourself anymore. âCan we go now? Please, please, please?â
Beth laughed, pulling her out of bed. âAlright, letâs go see what Santa brought.â
The three of you padded downstairs, Myle bounding ahead, her tail wagging furiously with Ronaâs.
When you saw the living room, you froze, your mouth dropping open. The room was transformed: stockings were full, presents were piled high, and the Barbie Dreamhouse you had asked for a few days short of Christmas sat assembled next to your new bike.
âSanta came!â You squealed, your voice full of awe.
Rich appeared in the doorway, coffee in hand, grinning at the sight of you. âTold you he wouldnât forget you, Roo.â
You ran to him, âGrandad, look at my bike!â
Beth and Viv exchanged a smile, watching as you darted around the room, inspecting every detail.
The rest of the morning passed in a whirlwind of joy. You carefully unwrapped your gifts, squealing with delight at each one. Myle and Rona happily chewed their new toys, adding to the chaos.Â
Your excitement grew as you unwrapped each present, you played with each one for a little bit before moving on to the next.Â
Beth chuckled as you abandoned a new stuffed giraffe mid-squeeze to race over to the dollhouse. âLook, Mummy! Itâs got an elevator! It goes up and down!â You moved the tiny dolls around with enthusiasm, your little hands barely big enough to hold them.
Viv crouched beside you, helping adjust one of the tiny chairs. âWow, Santa really outdid himself, didnât he?â
You nodded seriously before spotting another wrapped box with your name on it. âOh! Whatâs that?â you exclaimed, dashing over to it and dropping the doll mid-play.
Rich laughed from his spot on the couch. âSheâs like a whirlwind today.â
Beth settled next to him, âSheâs always a whirlwind.â
The next gift revealed a bright blue set of walkie-talkies, and you gasped. âMummy! Mamma! We can talk to each other!â
âDo they work through walls?â Beth teased, taking one.
âLetâs try!â you said, already running to the kitchen. âCan you hear me, Mummy?â
Beth pressed the button, her voice crackling through. âLoud and clear, Roo.â
Your giggle echoed back over the line before you darted back into the room, abandoning the walkie-talkie to tear into yet another gift. This one held a craft set, complete with glitter, stickers, and markers.
âCan we make something now?â you asked, eyes wide with excitement.
âLater, mijn meijse,â Viv said with a soft smile, gently redirecting you to another toy. âWeâve got plenty more to open first.â
And so the morning wentâeach new toy captivating you for just long enough before your attention was caught by another shiny bow or brightly coloured box. By the time all the presents were unwrapped, the living room looked like an explosion, wrapping paper and ribbons scattered everywhere.
The day passed quickly and before you knew it you were sitting at the table with Beth, Viv, Rich, Ben and his girlfriend Olivia having Christmas dinner.Â
You sat at the table, legs swinging under your chair as you happily munched on a piece of turkey. The table was filled with foodâroast potatoes, stuffing, Brussels sprouts (which you avoided like the plague), and gravy.
Beth leaned over, âRoo, is that all the potatoes youâre eating? I thought you said you were a potato monster.â
You giggled, pointing at the small pile on your plate. âI am a potato monster! Look, I ate three already!â
Ben chimed in, smirking. âOnly three? A real potato monster eats at least ten!â
âTen?!â Your eyes widened in mock horror. âThatâs too many, Mummy!â
Beth grinned. âMaybe youâre just a potato trainee then. Not a full monster yet.â
You crossed your arms, trying to look serious, âI am a real monster!â
âBut if you donât finish them, Santa might take back the Barbie Dreamhouse,â Ben added.Â
âBen!â Olivia scolded, nudging him with her elbow.
You looked up, wide-eyed, clutching your fork. âHe wouldnât!â
Beth laughed so hard she nearly choked on her drink. âRoo, donât listen to Uncle Ben. Heâs just jealous Santa didnât bring him a Dreamhouse.â
Ben raised his hands in mock surrender. âAlright, alright. Iâll stop.â
The teasing subsided for a while as everyone enjoyed their meal. You leaned into Vivâs side, âMamma, theyâre silly.â
Viv kissed the top of your head. âThey are, but they love you.â
As the evening wound down, you curled up on the sofa between Beth and Viv, clutching your new stuffed giraffe with Twix beside you. You fell asleep and cuddled up to Vivâs side after a long day of trying out all of your new toys.Â
âI think sheâs out,â Viv laughed, brushing a bit of your hair out of your face. âShall we carry her up to bed?â
Beth nodded, standing up and carefully picking you up in her arms, cradling you close. âLetâs get her tucked in. Itâs been a big day for our little munchkin.â
Viv followed, grabbing the stuffed giraffe and Twix that had slipped from your grip as you snoozed. The three of you made your way up the stairs, the soft glow of the Christmas tree lights still visible from the living room.
Once in your room at Richâs, Beth gently laid you down in your bed, tucking the covers around you. Viv placed the giraffe beside you, its soft fur brushing your cheek with Twix. You stirred slightly, mumbling something incoherent, but quickly settled back into a peaceful slumber.
âGoodnight, Roo,â Beth whispered, leaning down to kiss your forehead.
Viv smiled, brushing a strand of hair from your face. âSweet dreams, mijn meisje.â
As they turned off the light and quietly closed the door, they exchanged a lookâa mix of love and exhaustion. âSheâll be up at the crack of dawn again tomorrow,â Beth murmured with a laugh.
Viv chuckled, wrapping an arm around her. âWouldnât have it any other way.â

OH CAPTAIN, MY CAPTAINÂ . . . single dad! meian + f!reader
               DELETE DELETE DELETEÂ
âźâË notes/CWs - suggestive, 17+ to read, language, meian is insanely flirty, formatted differently than my usual so lmk if we like it! I probably won't stick to it but I like it in this instance :), not proofread bc I'm lazy sorry, dedicated to the wonderful, amazing, best friend forever @nekozaki who truly outdid herself for my secret santa gift so I'm here returning the favor!! you're amazing ellie thank you for being such a wonderful person and writer, I hope you enjoy <33
Re: today is awful From: Meian Shƫgo I can make your day 10 times better if you come over tonight ;)
The woman stared down at the email with baited breath, held it so long she thought she might get dizzy. Until finally a strangled breath passed her lips, filled her lungs before she swallowed harshly. Over and over, she read the sentence; over and over until her heart surged to her throat with her cheeks hot.Â
He sent that to her work email.Â
A cheeky habit the pair had, emailing each other. A nice surprise to see kind, often silly emails, throughout the day - sometimes he sent pictures from practice, but more often than not he sent terrible dad jokes - so she always replied. Normally, she would send an update about her day, and he would always reply with an endearing message back. But today was different, today was spicy; Meian had a fire underneath him and didn't mind the consequences.Â
She pulled her bottom lip between her teeth as she swiped away from the email; torn between wanting to smile and wanting to tear him apart for sending something like that. Her fingers were quick to find his contact and hit call, and she decided to draw and quarter him the moment he picked up.Â
The man was at practice around this time, and she knew he had slinked himself away just to answer - which only made her more riled. He answered because he knew what the call was about, no doubt.
âYou got my email, didn't you?â A coy question that made her stomach drop and twist in knots; the man had the unique affinity of leaving her breathless. âYou miss me that much, sweetheart?â His voice was laced with a faux sense of sympathy, a teasing aura muddled behind a true care and compassion for the woman.
âYou can't send shit like that through a work email, Meian!â A hushed tone as she put force behind the man's name, which only made a chuckle sound from the other end of the line. âOh yeah, laugh it up, those emails are screened by the way. Let's not forget I work at a school.âÂ
âIt wasn't even that bad,â he reasoned. âSo put the family name away, I could've sent a lot worse.âÂ
âI bet you could've, jackass,â she rolled her eyes at his brashness. Her eyes flickered up to the closed door of her classroom, then to the clock on the back end of the wall. At least he knew the times when people weren't in her classroom, that was the only redeeming arc of it all. âNot the point though. Use your brain before you send an email like that again. Think to yourself: is this helpful, is this kind, will it get flagged by my girlfriend's work because I don't know how to contain myself?âÂ
Another chuckle, and she let out a loud groan. âPretty hot when you use that tone with me,â he chided, she could practically hear him smirking through the line. âYou should use it when-âÂ
âDear god, don't finish that sentence right now.â She closed her eyes and groaned once more, and the twinge of exhaustion that settled upon her was apparent even over the phone. He frowned once the tone had shifted, although she couldn't see it.Â
âAlright, alright, I'm sorry.â Spoken genuinely, with a small breath, before she heard him smile again. ââLove you.âÂ
There was a small pause, one she couldâve excused as poor signal, but didnât as she took a sharp inhale. The pair had just recently shared the intimacy of such words of adoration, pouring their hearts out on a drunken escapade that spilled over into the next day, and the day after that. The freshness of the statement still made her stomach fill with butterflies and her cheeks hot; for once, she was glad he wasnât around to see just how flustered he made her.Â
âI love you, too.â
She heard him hum just before the loud bang of a door swinging open on his end rang through. âIâve been found,â he chuckled, âIâll talk to you later, alright?âÂ
âHave fun at practice, ShĆ«.â Instead of his own voice ringing through; however, another took its place. Farther back from the phone, as if they were in front of the man she wished to speak to, and loud - obnoxious.Â
âHoly fuck is that your girlfriend? Let me talk to her!â
The click of the call ending was loud, and she only chuckled when she took the phone from her ear.Â

Marry Christmas and happy holidays!
I am so sorry this took forever way longer than I wanted but it came out just in time for Christmas. This is one of the dirtiest things I have written in a long time. I really hope you guys enjoy this. As always requests are open and I will be doing headconns now as well. This was not proofread please comment and share
Four long weeks, four long weeks alone, four long weeks without him. You hated it when he got sent on long missions. Logan and you had been by each other's side ever since he found you, and somewhere along the way, you had fallen in love with him; one drunk night later, you woke up naked in his bed.
âSorry I'm late, baby, I stopped and picked up something.â You grin when you hear his voice and look at where he is standing in the doorway. Logan smiled as you walked closer to him before you locked your arms around his neck and his hands went to your waist.
âYou didn't have to do that, baby; I'm just happy you're home,â you tell him before standing on your tippy toes and kissing his lips, but before you can pull back, he deepens the kiss. Logan groans as you pull him just as close, your nails run through his hair and down his chest, and he finally pulls away, both of you breathing hard.
âCome on, baby, let me show you what I got,â he grins and grabs your hand as he heads for the front door. You shiver a bit at the cold and smile softly at the snow that is softly falling. The woods around you looked like a winter wonderland.
âAh, it's cold,â you laugh before running back in and grabbing your shoes and jacket. Once you make it back outside, you follow his footprints to his truck, where he is unloading a smallish tree inside.
âYou got me a tree!?â You squeal excitedly, making him chuckle as he pulls it out of the truck and slings it over his shoulder.
âYeah, I got ya a tree; I know you love this time of year,â he says, coming to stand in front of you, and you smile up at him.
âHow did I get so lucky to have you?â You say, leaning up to peck his lips just as the snow starts to fall harder.
âYou got that wrong, princess. I'm the lucky one in this deal,â he smiles while grabbing her hand, and they head inside, and Logan sets the tree in place.
âSo I may have gone to town before the snow happened, and I might have gotten you something too.â You grin as he sits in his chair, and you pour him a drink.
âYeah? What you get, baby?â he asks while sitting down the drink and taking his shirt off leaving him in his boots and Wrangler jeans. It took every ounce of self-control not to fuck it and crawl in his lap.
âI'll be right back,â you tell him as you hurry to the bedroom and strip down as you try to find the pair of lingerie you had gotten. Once you found it, you put the top on that pushed your breasts up and was lace and through, along with a matching thong and stockings. You grab one of his shirts and throw it on as you make your way back to the living room.
âThat my shirt princess?â He asks setting up a bit as he spreads his legs a bit more. You nod as you walk over to him and slowly straddle him.
âIf you want to see your gift, you have to unwrap me,â you tell him, your lips brushing his. Logan leans up just enough to kiss you, and you moan. Logan's hands run up his shirt, finding the top and tugging at it. The shirt is ripped, and buttons fly across the room.
âFuck baby, you look good enough to eat,â he says, his hands grabbing your breasts in his big hands, making you softly moan. You lean down and kiss him, biting his lip making him growl and pull you closer. You grind down on his covered hard cock and moan.
âLet me suck you, Daddy. I missed your cock in my throat,â you moan in his ear before biting and kissing your way to his neck. You reach the spot where his neck and shoulder meet and bite, leaving your teeth marks behind, making him groan and thrust his hips up, making you moan. You pull back from his neck. The feeling of Logan's hand around your neck made you shiver and clinch around noting.
âHave you been a good girl?â He asks, his voice low and husky, and you whimper. Logan's hand runs down your body and into your thong and he groans at how soaked you are for him.
âI'm always your good girl* you smirk and lick your lips, making his grip tighten just a bit, and you bite your lip. Logan pulled his hand out of your thong and undid his belt, and undone his pants. His cock sprang free. He was thick and hard. Precum has started to gather at the tip. Logan let your neck go and you went back to kissing and biting down his body. You lock eyes with him as you take the head of his cock in your mouth and suck and lick the head and tip.
âFuck baby, I missed you,â he groans, his hand threading through your hair as you started to take him deeper. You moan and take him as deep as you can till you gag and pull off his cock, drool coming out of your mouth and sliding down his cock, helping you pump him as you take a breath.
âI love the way you tasteâ You smirk and suck his balls into your mouth and suck, making his hand tighten in your hair.
Ah fuckâ he moans his head falling back. You look up and watch as Logan loses himself to the pleasure you are giving him. Leaning up, you take him as far down your throat as he could go, and you moan around him. Logan holds your head in place and starts to thrust his hips.
âCum in my throat, fuck, I'm so wet for you,â you moan in his mind using your power.
âFuck princess, you suck my cock so well, I can smell how soaked you are for me,â he growls. Thoughts of what he was about to do to you ran through his mind pushing him over the edge, and he cums down your throat, and you moan. You let his cock slide out of your mouth and show him your cum covered tongue before you close your mouth and show him your clean tongue.
âI want you so badâ you moan as your cunt throbs with need. You crawl up his body to where you're straddling him. Logan's hands go back to your hips, and you moan as he rocks you on his still-hard cock.
âWhat do you want, princess?â he asks huskily, his hand leaving your hip and holding your throat. Logan's lips brush yours as he speaks.
âI want you to fuck me till I can't walk; I want you to fuck me till the only word I can say is your name. I want you to fuck me so hard we break the bed. I want to feel you cum deep inside meâ you tell him breathless as your hips never stop moving. You're so wet you're dripping on his cock, and Logan groans at your words. Without warning, Logan's hands go under your ass as he stands holding you steady. You take this time to kiss and bite down his neck up to his ear and your back hits the wall.
âKeep it up, and we won't make it to the bed, princes,s,â he growls huskily in your neck as he sucks and bites your ne,ck, leaving marks beh, ind, making you moan and pull tightly at his hair.
âI have been thinking about this since you left Logan; you coming home an fucking me into the bed,â you moan, grinding your hips against his. Logan's grip on you tightens, and his hips pin yours to the wall, without another word, he grabs you and tosses you to the bed, making you giggle as you bounce on the bed. Logan was on you in seconds and you reached up to tangle your fingers in his hair and pulled him down to kiss him deeply.
âYeah? Tell me baby: I wanna know all your dirty thoughtsâ he says huskily as his hands cup your breasts and you moan.
âYour mouth and teeth on my body. Leaving Marks as you work your way down and make me squirt for you. I want you to fuck me so good I walk funny the next dayâ you tell him your lips brushing his and he groans when you thrust your hips up rubbing his hard cock. Without another word Logan latches onto your neck and you moan as he bites a mark in your neck. You run your nails lightly on his bare shoulders Logan's mouth travels down your body leaving bite marks as he goes till he reaches your dripping cunt.
âFuck baby she's soaked for meâ he says huskily as he opens your legs as wide as they would go. You were so exposed to his hungry eyes but it didn't embarrass you it did the opposite.
âAlways wet for you; please Logan I need your mouth on meâ you whine making him chuckle at your needy tone and begging. Logan spread your lips and spits on your cunt making you moan at the feeling. Without another word he dives in, eating you out like it's his last meal. You cry out your hands tangling in his hair pulling him closer. Without warning Logan pulls back and locks his eyes with yours as he dips his fingers in your soaking cunt making you moan at the feeling.
âOpen, Taste that? Best fucking pussy I have ever tastedâ
â he growls huskily, you do as Logan says and open your mouth for him and he puts his wet fingers in your mouth you moan and suck his fingers clean.
âPlease fuck me, I need you to stretch me open, to fuck me and make me cum like only you canâ you beg your nails run down his chest leaving red lines as you do making him groan and his head falls back.
âFuck! You're such a good girâ he groans while rubbing his hard ccock through your folds
âUse me daddy, fuck me full of your cumâ you moan when he smacks your cunt than rubs your clit. Logan's hand wraps around your throat as he lines his cock up to your entice.
âSuch a dirty fucking mouthâ he growls teasesing you even more making you whine.
âYou love my dirty mouth especially when it's wrapped around your cockâ you say breathlessly, you need him inside you, fucking you into the bed.
âYeah but there is something else I love even more it's the sounds you make when I'm balls deep in you â he growls the last part as the thrusts into you going balls deep making you cry out in pleasure and in pain. Your nails leaves marks down Logan's back as he fucks you hard and deep.
âOh fuck Logan! You're so deep!â You moan, clawing his back as he drills into you roughly. His hand holding your neck brings you to his lips where he kisses you sloppily. Without warning Logan flips so you was on top making you moan loudly as he goes even deeper.b
âFuck baby ride meâ he growls slapping your ass your hands land on his chest as you start to rise up and down on him then grinding down. You lean down and kiss him deeply niping his lip making his hold on you tighten.
âOh! Right there Logan â mmmh oh fuck imma cumâ you cry out as Logan plows into holding your hips in place fucking up ipro you.
âCum for Daddy baby squirt all over meâ he growls huskily you were so close and his dirty words send you over the edge. You scream as you cum your nails leaving bloody marks on his chest as your head falls back as pleasure washes over you.
âThat's my good girl squirting all over me, ah fuck your squeezing me so tightâ he groans as you become so tight he almost has to pull out. As you come down Logan has moved you to laying on the bed and him hovering over you. You cling to him as he starts to fuck you harder than before.
âLogan fuck a baby into me* you moan out to cock drunk to realize what you were saying but your words trigger something in him and Logan pulls out and flips you on your hands and knees before he re enters you. One of Logan's hands tangles in your hair as he smacks your ass as he fucks you.
âWant me to fuck you full of cum? Want to have my baby?â He growls in your ear, his thrusts slowing but no less hard. Logan's mouth and teeth latch onto your neck as he is reduced to grunts and growls.
âYes! Fill me full Logan fuck me so good you knock me upâ you moan filthully you were so close to another climax and so was Logan.
âFuckâ he growls through cleanches teeth as he stills as he cums deep inside of you. The feeling of Logan coming in you triggers yours and you cum hard liquid shooting out of you and soaking him and the sheets.
You lay there on your stomach as you try to catch your breath. Your body feeling oversensitive. You moan softly as Logan pulls and you roll over sluggishly and spread your legs as Logan grabs the wipes beside the bed and cleans you both up.
âMmm still gotta take care of the treeâ you say sleepily, your head now resting on Logan's chest and his arms holding you close and he chuckles.
ârest princess we can do that laterâ he says softly kissing the top of your head as you start to doze off.

Fool Me Twice [4/?]
After more than a month, I'm back with this update which is... not extremely long, but I figured I would post it before I lose confidence :')
Part 4 ft. (the aftermaths of) fake dating, a cold, and an office conversation
You can read part 1 [here]! (No additional context is needed aside from the previous 3 parts.)
â
Work resumes on the 3rd. Yves thinks of all the ways he might thank Vincent for all the troubleâa late New Yearâs gift? (But he doesnât know what Vincent would like, except presumably useful things, but if theyâre useful, shouldnât Vincent have them already?) An invitation to dinner at some nice restaurant? (But what if Vincent sees it as another inconvenient propositionâas more time outside of work which heâll be obligated to spend with someone he doesnât even know that well?) A gift card to a nice restaurant? (But would that not come across wrongâpresumptuous at best, condescending at worst?)
Normally, Yves would ask Margotâever the voice of reasonâfor advice, but it occurs to him, now, that he wonât be able to consult any of his college friends about this if he intends to keep up the lie.
And thereâs that, too. If he intends on going to any future events that Margotâor any of his other college friends, at thatâwill host, heâll have to tell them that he and Vincent have broken up since (which will only serve to prove Erikaâs point that Yves isnât everything heâs made himself out to beâat least, when it comes to relationships), or think of some sort of way to excuse Vincentâs continued absences.
If one thingâs for sure, itâs that asking any more of Vincent than heâs already asked is entirely out of the question.
Yves drives himself to work on Tuesday morning, gets to his office earlier than most, says hi to Cara and Laurent, and gets to work. Itâs easy enough to settle into work again, to a 10am meeting with the team and another couple calls with clients, to all the paperwork and data analysis heâd for himself before the winter holidays.
Vincent usually gets to work earlyâheâs always there when Yves gets to the officeâand stays late. Heâs usually at the break room at 10:15, unless he has a meeting of some sort, for his usual morning coffee. He works on the same floor, but his cubicle is far enough away that Yves canât see him from where he sits.Â
Yves doesnât look for him. Better to catch him in the morning in the break room or at lunch in the company cafeteria, Yves thinks, as to not risk interrupting him in the middle of something important.
But Vincentâdespite showing up to a morning conference with the teamâis surprisingly absent from the break room at 10:15. And then Yves ends up working with Cara on an upcoming presentation until 1, and when he gets to the cafeteria, Vincent isnât there, either.
Itâs unfortunate timing, or perhaps Vincent is just unusually busy. Yves knows he does a lot of work behind the scenes, from the few times heâs asked him what he was working on and gotten an intimidating list of projects in response. When he passes Vincentâs desk in the early afternoonâmore precisely, when he decides to take the long way to the break roomâhe finds Vincent speaking with Angelie, one of the new hires, their heads ducked together over the harsh glow of Angelieâs laptop screen. He watches as Vincent gestures to something on the screen and says something too quiet to make out from this distance, and Angelie nods, jotting something down onto a notepad sheâs holding.
How formal, Yves thinks. It isnât long ago that he was in her shoes, new and intimidated by the formality of the workplace, asking Vincent for help and tabling everything he thought might be of note.
He doesnât think much of itâonly that of course Vincent is busy; Angelie is right to think that Vincent has the kind of expertise that will really be useful to her, and the patience to walk her through it with a level of thoroughness Yves is frequently impressed by, or else sheâs just gotten very lucky.
The afternoon passes quickly enough. All of a sudden, itâs 5, which is around the time when Yves usually leaves, and he still hasnât spoken a word to Vincent all day.
Against better judgment, he takes his briefcase with him, heads toward the sector of the building that Vincent works in. Tells himself itâs just on the way to the back door exit. Tells himself a short exchange wouldnât hurtâwould it really be so wrong to invite Vincent out to dinner, or at the very least, to offer him the thank you he so unquestionably deserves?
He half expects Vincent to be gone already, considering that heâs probably been here since 7:30. But when he gets there, Vincent is at his desk, as usual, cross-checking several documents heâs printed out.
âHard at work, as always,â Yves says, stopping just short of his cubicle.
âYves,â Vincent says, though he doesnât offer any further note of acknowledgment. He looks tired, Yves realizes, from the slight tension to his posture, the way he blinks hard behind his glasses, his eyebrows furrowing slightly. But of course heâs tiredâheâs been here for almost ten hours already.
Yves waits for him to finish what heâs doingâto look away from the monitor screen, even just for a momentâbut he doesnât.
âAre you planning to stay much later?â Yves asks, at last, though he gets the feeling that he should leave.
âMost likely,â Vincent says. âIs there something you need me to look over?â
âNo,â Yves says. âBut I was wonderingââ
âIâm very busy today,â Vincent cuts him off, paging through one of the documents thatâs laid out over his desk. âSo if itâs not work related, nowâs not a good time.â
Itâs then that Yves realizesâVincent must think heâs about to drag him into another one of his fake-relationship arrangements.Â
âI donât need anything from you,â Yves says, faltering. âIâm justâitâs getting late, and youâve been here all day.â
âYes,â Vincent says. âLike I said, Iâm very busy.â He pauses to highlight a line of numbers, scribble something into the margins. How he can concentrate on his work and the conversation simultaneously, Yves doesnât know. âIf you have work for me, feel free to leave it on my desk, Iâll get to it tonight. Otherwise, Iâd appreciate it if we had this conversation later.â
âNoted,â Yves says. He tables the dinner conversation for later, sets his briefcase down on the floor so that it leans up against the wall. âLet me help.â
Vincent frowns, his eyebrows furrowing. âIt would take longer for me to explain this to you.â
âYou donât need to explain anything,â Yves says. âI can look over the documents myself.â He takes a step closer, peers down at the papers strewn across Vincentâs deskâearnings reports and expense reports, mostly, and a couple marketing proposals.
Vincent reaches up to pinch the bridge of his nose. âThat would require you to know the context.â
âIâve dealt with a hundred of these in my life. I promise you I know what Iâm doing.â
âThen youâll have to spend more time telling me your findings,â Vincent says. âBetter to not split up the work at all.â
âIt would still be faster than going through them yourself.âÂ
âHardly.â
Perhaps Vincent doesnât trust Yves to get things done to the standard that he expects, then. Yves thinks heâs worked here long enough to consider himself decently qualified, but they havenât worked together closely on anything since Yvesâs first couple months at Evertech, and so he doesnât fault Vincent for being wary.
Still, Yves thinks he can be useful here. And maybe there is something selfish to it, tooâto wanting to be as useful to Vincent as Vincent had been to him, to wanting to prove that he is capable of helping in the first place, of offering something of valueâbut even aside from that, heâs worried that if he doesnât step in, Vincent might be here all night. It doesnât seem like much of an impossibility, considering who heâs talking to.
âYouâve been here for hours,â Yves tries. âItâs only our first day back.â He looks aroundâperhaps thereâs someone else here that could help, someone whoâs worked here longer than Yves, who Vincent trusts. âYou donât have to let me help. But at least hand some of it off to someone you actually trust, or tell Charlene that sheâs given you too much work this week, or both.â
âItâs no more work than usual,â Vincent says, with a sigh.
âAnd yet, youâre planning on staying late.â
Vincent looks up at him, at last, his expression unreadable. âIâm capable of doing my own job, Yves.â His voice is curt, almost snappish. âI really donât have time to argue with you right now.â
Yves wants to say, of course I know that. Vincent is nothing if not qualifiedâYves has never doubted that for a moment. He wants to say, I want to help you regardless.
But that would only be presumptuous. He doesnât know Vincent that well. Besides, itâs really none of his businessâtheyâre coworkers, not friends. Vincent knows whatâs best for himself. The best thing Yves can do right now is to stay out of his way.
âOkay,â Yves says, a little defeated. âGood luck on your work. Make sure you get some sleep.â
Thereâs no response to thatâno acknowledgement that Vincent has heard him at all, even though itâs quiet enough in the room that he must have. Yves turns to get his briefcase. Out of the corner of his eye, he sees Vincent jerk forward suddenly, his shoulders tensing with a near-silentâ
âHhHâGkt-!â
Yves bites back a reflexive bless you. Itâs just one sneeze. It doesnât have to mean anything. But Vincent sniffles, pressing his knuckles up to the underside of his nose, to stifle anotherâ
âHhHâNgkT-!âHis breath hitches again, his eyebrows drawing together as he jerks forward again, with a quiet but painfully forceful, âHh⊠hEHâNGXt!â, crushed into his fist.
He sniffles again, reaching across the desk to snag a tissue from the tissue box that, Yves realizes with a jolt, is usually not present on his desk. He sighs quietlyâthe sort of tired, drawn out exhale that leaves no question about how tired he isâand reaches up with a hand to gingerly massage his temples. The slight grimace that follows is almost certainly indicative of a headache.Â
Yves considers asking Vincent how heâs feeling for all of two seconds before he remembers the almost-hostility with which he was just faced. Perhaps it would be better if he pretends to not have heard. Briefcase in hand, he quickens his pace, ducks out of the exit, and heads down the stairs.Â
Vincent spent his New Yearâs Eve with him, at a party surrounded by strangersâeven though Vincent dislikes parties and probably dislikes strangersâheâd put up an immaculate act, played along even through Yvesâs slight intoxication, and driven him homeâand in turn, Yves has repaid him by...Â
God. Yves shouldnât have asked to kiss him. The guilt settles heavy in his stomach.
Yves really, really owes him.
He heads down several flights of stairs and ducks outside to the parking garage. Itâs even colder today than it had been on New Yearâsâperhaps indicative of a colder winter to comeâand though the parking garage is sealed off, when heâd looked out from the office windows upstairs, it had been starting to snow.
The cafeteria at their workplace is closed for dinner, and itâs a half hour drive home from here through rush hour trafficâmaybe a little longer in the snow, and longer still if he stops to get something to eat.
Heâs in the process of unlocking the car, setting his briefcase at his feet, and inserting the keys into the ignition when the idea occurs to him.
Itâs an irrational idea, probably.

Even though I've not cared about spoilering myself in the past, and have even seen some stuff already, I kinda wanna commit to not watching Shadow Generations cut-scenes until I inevitably get stuck. I got stuck pretty early Sonic Gens and Shadow stuff tends to be harder...plus I have Halloween/Cosplay stuff to work on...
But procrastination/the desire to multi task is also there...
#Latee speaks#Latee plays a game#...or at least talks about it#I'm a bit worried because I got it for switch beause I've hardly been using my PS4 anymore#...but I only have a switch light and Frontiers and another game gave me a bit of a headache...#not that I've play much of either in a while#I could have been tired + I'm bad at most games especially Sonic#...honestly would have been a good excuse TO use PS4#but I never ended up playing Colors for it when I got it#...#working around cats is always 'fun'#and now I have more to worry about#OG Gens it took me forever to beat Shadow#I couldn't figure out what to do...#when I finally did the timer was at 30 minutes#I've been itching to play SA2 but............
