pairing: hyunjin x gn!reader w. 0.8k genre: comedic fluff summary: your boyfriend, hyunjin, comes home on christmas day from sbs gayo daejeon after surprising you with a new look. he's shaved his hair and gone blonde. warnings: reader mourns the long hair but is very supportive. playful teasing a/n: this is literally just how i'm coping rn
New year and comeback season always meant new looks and fresh things. However, this was not expected.
You were at home, as always. Christmas was a busy day for Hyunjin, away at SBS Gayo Daejeon performing and looking pretty for the cameras. It was routine, but you always enjoyed tuning in and seeing the talent from him and his group as they performed.
There was a red carpet to unveil looks, but you were preparing some food for dinner that night. Things were getting hectic in the kitchen and time passed you by.
But your phone started to buzz. And buzz. And buzz.
Unable to ignore the repeating notification noises, you stopped what you were doing to figure out what had your phone blowing up. Notifications from posts and texts from friends... what was happening?
Everyone was talking about Hyunjin. As normal as it was for him to get the world's attention, the sheer amount of notifications was concerning. Something was obviously going on.
So, you opened your feed. It didn't take more than a single scroll for the picture to hit your timeline. On the red carpet, looking sharp and stunning, was Hyunjin. Beautiful outfit, many piercings, eyebrow slit fresh.
Oh, and his head was completely shaved and dyed blonde.
You stared at your phone in shock for what felt like forever. The two second clip of him looking stunning for the cameras replayed over and over as your brain tried to pick up the pieces.
You knew he wouldn't have his phone on him and able to look at it for a bit, but that did not stop you from blowing up his texts. Nothing outrageous or upset, but a lot of spammed questions and confusion got the message across pretty well. It was the least you could do.
Reeling from the overwhelming knowledge of your boyfriend's look, you decided to put your phone down and get back to cooking. You had to take your mind off of it or you might go insane.
The whole time, all you could think about was him. How drastic it was, how hot he looked, the whole bit. Hwang Hyunjin was taking up your entire mind.
Any task that you tried to do seemed impossible to entirely focus on. Every moment had you wanting to grab your phone and scroll, finding every possible photo of him. Hyunjin being a world-famous idol did not make this any easier.
Giving in, you resigned to doom scrolling. If you weren't able to focus, you wouldn't get anything done. Might as well just drool over how good he looks, you thought.
When he finally got done with the show, he was able to text you back briefly. He returned your texts with spam of his own, a bunch of apologies and letting you know when he'd be back.
Waiting for him to come home seemed impossible. The performance that the group gave was phenomenal as always. However, nothing could prepare you for seeing the look in person. Time passed dreadfully slow.
As you had finished up dinner, you heard the door swing open. You turned around to see Hyunjin out of breath. He waved to you, a shy smile on his face as he hung up his coat and took off his shoes. He approached slowly, looking uncertain.
"Do you... like it?" He finally asked, his voice shaky and small.
Staring at him for a few seconds, you smiled and nodded. "Of course I do, but why didn't you tell me?"
"It was supposed to be a surprise! A Christmas gift, you know?" Hyunjin tried to explain, breathing still heavy from running, "I thought it was a really big change, and I was worried you'd say no."
You looked at him incredulously. "Why would I say no to you wanting to try something new?"
"I... don't know." Hyunjin climbed into a chair, tilting his head back and closing his eyes as he fully caught his breath.
You watched him for a few moments, quietly observing his new look for yourself. He looked stunning, his sharp features accentuated by the new hair and the piercings grabbing your eye.
Although, you had something on your mind. "Oh, your poor hair," You lamented jokingly, "If you had warned me, I would've cherished it more if I knew it was the last time I'd see it."
"Aish, you'll see it again," Hyunjin groaned, standing up and looking at you, "Just not for a while."
"You better grow it back out," You retorted, walking over and running your fingers through his soft, short hair.
Hyunjin grinned and shrugged his shoulders. "We'll see."
"Hwang Hyunjin."
"Okay, okay, sorry."
As you plated your dinner with him, you looked over and snickered. "God, you really do look like a chestnut. Changbin was right."
"What did he call me?" Hyunjin scoffed, "I'm not a chestnut."
"Chestnut, dumpling, flour boy. You're becoming the real grocery list."
"I am not!"

“So... ten babies, eh?”
Callum visibly cringed, eyes darting around the kitchen. Runaan and Ethari had disappeared again, leaving them to prepare dinner.
“Like, I said, I, uh, didn’t mean it like that-” Face bright red, he sighed, putting the knife down on the chopping board and turning to give her his full attention.
“Oh, how did you mean it?” She struggled not to laugh at him, his flushed appearance and stammering beyond adorable.
“We were talking about what a baby might be like if a human and elf had kids.” Callum sighed, rolling his eyes. “And then Lira decided to tease me-”
“Just talking about any random elf/human babies, were you?”
“Em, well, no... I guess not.” He laughed awkwardly, rubbing the back of his neck. “But they started it!”
“So, three kids got the better of you and you’re wanting ten?” She tried desperately to not to laugh.
“I told you, I didn’t say I wanted us to have ten.” He rolled his eyes, sighing at her teasing, before he grew a little more serious. “But, well, I meant what I said, I want us to be together. To have a life together.” He took her hands, smiling that soft, sweet smile of his. “And yeah, I guess that would involve, you know, babies. If you want them, that is.”
Rayla’s heart raced as she squeezed his hands and stepped closer to him. “I
I do.” She sighed happily, pressing her forehead against his. “I do want all of that with you, Callum. I love you.”
She wanted forever with him and had for longer than she could remember now. With Aaravos imprisoned and Callum free from the stain of dark magic, forever finally seemed like a possibility.
“I love you too,” Callum sighed happily, slipping his hands around her waist and kissing her softly. “Being with you- Us here together... it’s pretty near perfect... this nice, quiet life.”
“I don’t think ten babies would mean a quiet life.” She teased, slipping her hands up his chest and around his neck.
“Hmm, good point.” He chuckled, pulling her closer. “Pride Grandpa Ethari could help. And Runaan.” Grinning, he caressed her waist “Though he didn’t look impressed with the idea of ten grand kids.”
“I think he was probably a bit more concerned with you talking about us making babies at all.” She ran her fingers through his hair, resting her forehead against his. “And I am not having ten babies, thank you very much.”
“Na, that makes sense.” He smirked. “Obviously at least ten.”
She arched an eyebrow at him, unable to keep the amused smirk from her lips. “At least?!”
He shrugged, leaning in to her and kissing her softly. “What, you want twenty?”

11 DAYS FROM CHRISTMAS 2024:
“That’s not how it’s supposed to work.” Mingyu slapped Vernon’s hand away from the tree they were decorating. “It’s supposed to be symmetrical, not whatever you’re doing.”
Vernon had to admit he wasn’t really paying attention. Their dorm auntie, the one who came around once a week to clean up the place, had baked them gingerbread men as a Christmas gift, and the smell felt like it had seeped into the walls of their dorm. It was a nostalgic smell, one that took him back to his childhood, new york and-
“Vernon?” Mingyu waved a hand in front of his face. “Are you even listening right now?”
He blinked, brought back from his thoughts. “Sorry, hyung. What?”
Mingyu could only let out a deep sigh, moving to place the bauble where he intended it to be. “You’re like this every Christmas. If you miss her so much, why don’t you just fly back?”
Vernon didn’t really know why he wasn’t flying back. He certainly could be, they were off work for the holidays and a plane ticket back wasn’t hard to find. He would be doing himself a favor, putting himself out of misery and finally seeing his childhood best friend. The thing was, he wasn’t really sure if Y/N wanted to see him. He shrugged. “I don’t miss her.” It was a lie and everyone in the room knew it.

CHRISTMAS DAY 2003:
Everyone who knew either of them would say they were smart kids for their age. Both only five, they whispered secrets to each other like little middle schoolers would on the playground.
“My parents say I’m going to Korea.” Vernon whispered to Y/N as they watched a christmas movie. “Forever.” Vernon always had a dramatic, theatrical side to him, even as a child.
Y/N could only frown. “Forever? Why?” She couldn’t imagine her best friend moving anywhere without her. “Am I going too?”
Vernon mirrored her frown on his own face. “I don’t know.” Sensing her sadness, he reached over and gave her a hug. “I’ll visit every year.” He promised.
“Every christmas.” Y/N insisted. She had always loved christmas above all else. “So we can watch movies again.”
Vernon agreed. “Okay. Every christmas. It’ll be like-” He paused, his young mind searching for the word. “Tradition.” He smiled at her, proud of the big word.
“Promise?” Y/N stared at him with wide eyes, reaching out with her pinky, extended. “Pinky promise me.”
Vernon grasped her pinky with his, shaking it firmly. He felt like a grown up, making one of those important business deals. “I promise.” Turning back to the screen, he let out a whine when he realized they had missed the best part. “We missed the part where the grinch screams down the mountain.” He complained. “I wanted to watch that part.”
Y/N got up, searching for the remote. “I’ll turn it back.”
Their dynamic never changed, even as they grew older. Vernon walked through life, Y/N following behind him with eyes filled with admiration, gently nudging the boy whenever he got distracted and began walking off-track. It stayed that way even with the distance, until one Christmas, Y/N woke up and Vernon had not returned.
Tumblr media
CHRISTMAS DAY 2016:
“Mom?” Y/N called as she walked slowly down the stairs. She had returned home from university for the holidays and was confused when Vernon wasn’t at his usual spot to welcome her home. “Where’s Vernon?” He was usually back from Korea by now.
She didn’t like the look of pity her mother was giving her. “He didn’t tell you, honey? He’s been so busy with work, looks like he can’t fly back to join us for christmas this year.”
She felt her heart sink. She had been looking forward to spending time with him, even if it was just a couple of days out of the year. “Oh.” Of course, she understood. His work was important and she was sure the kpop industry couldn’t be easy. “That’s okay. I guess he must’ve been too busy to tell me.”
--
“What are you still doing here?” Joshua frowned at Vernon, who was lying down on his bed. “Shouldn’t you be in New York by now?” He was used to Vernon flying back to New York every christmas since they had met.
Vernon let out a huff. “Not going back this year, Josh.”
“Why not?” His friend pressed, confused. Vernon was usually so excited to go back. “Isn’t your friend going to be sad?”
“I can’t miss any more practice before our comeback. One Christmas should be fine.” Vernon explained, although his voice betrayed his disappointment. He had been looking forward to going back home, to be able to see Y/N again. He thought to himself that one christmas couldn’t hurt, right?
One Christmas missed turned into two. Then four. Then the timing felt too long and awkward and Vernon just never got the confidence to ever go back.

10 DAYS FROM CHRISTMAS 2024:
Korea was beautiful underneath a sheet of snow. Y/N had landed last night, having made up her mind to give living in Korea a try. Ever since graduating university and landing a job as a screenwriter, her friends and family had always urged her to try working for the Korean film scene.
She supposed she had always just avoided the country because of Vernon.
Her new job writing for some K-drama started after New Years. She thought maybe spending Christmas in a new place would bring back the mirth and good cheer the holiday used to give her, but she knew she was here for a different reason. A selfish and pathetic one. It burned her, that a part of her still wished to bump into Vernon after all these years. She knew he was doing well, SEVENTEEN was soaring through new heights and she had kept tabs on his ongoing success. It was the only way she kept going: his large internet presence sometimes made it feel like he never even left at all.
It hurt her the most that he could be doing so well without ever seeing her again.
Rounding the corner to the coffee shop, she rubbed her raw hands to regain heat. Ordering, she was relieved to find out she could still hold a conversation in Korean. It had gone rusty, the only people she ever used Korean with back home was Vernon’s dad and sister.
“Hello?” Someone from behind her tapped her on the shoulder. “Do I know you from somewhere?”
She was greeted by a slightly taller, blond man, sporting black rimmed glasses and holding a cup of iced coffee. Her mind short circuiting a bit from the sudden Korean, she paused, trying to recollect her thoughts before replying. “I don’t think so?”
The man’s eyes widened in sudden recognition. “You’re the girl in the Christmas photos!” He exclaimed with wonder, pointing at her as if they were long lost friends.
She squinted, giving him another look over. “Um..” She frowned, quite sure she didn’t know this man.
“Sorry.” He smiled sheepishly at her, extending his hand for a handshake. “That probably came out wrong. You’re Vernon’s friend from New York, right? I’ve seen you in the pictures on his wall.”
She blanched, all of a sudden feeling very light and disoriented. “I’m sorry.” She smiled politely, still racking her brain furiously for the guy’s name. “How do you know Vernon?”
“I’m Seungkwan.” He explained, dropping her hand. “Vernon’s bandmate.”
She let out a sound of realization. “Ah~” She knew who he was. “Seungkwan. Sorry, I didn’t expect you to have blonde hair now.”
Chuckling at her shy admission, Seungkwan felt strangely sad to see the girl in Korea. “When did you come to Korea?” He asked, knowing Vernon would lose his shit if he found out they had been in the same location for a while.
“I arrived just last night.”
He left out a breath he hadn’t realized he had been holding. Okay, at least it hadn’t been very long. “You should come to our Christmas party.” He suggested, knowing Vernon would be there. “It’s being hosted at Coups hyung’s house this year, and everyone will be there.”
Y/N shook her head. “I wouldn’t want to make things weird.” She already caught on to the fact that Seungkwan knew all about her and Vernon’s falling out, or lack of one.
“You wouldn’t.” He insisted. “You must come. I’d hate to see you spend Christmas by yourself.”
It didn’t take much for Y/N to relent. She supposed a part of her had been looking for a chance to see Vernon again. “Alright. I’ll stop by and say a quick hi to everyone.”
Seungkwan’s smile was contagious as he beamed, grabbing a napkin to scribble Scoups’ address onto it and handing it to her. “It’s at 7pm on the 24th. Bring a present- something small.” He hurriedly gave her all the details as he left, mumbling about being late for a company meeting and how lovely it was to finally meet Vernon’s mystery girl.
Holding the napkin in her still freezing hand, Y/N felt utterly shipwrecked as she watched Seungkwan leave. Nine days was enough to prepare her heart to see Vernon again, right?
Tumblr media
12 HOURS TILL CHRISTMAS 2024:
The frost in the air bit at Y/N’s face and neck as she quickly rang the doorbell to Seungcheol’s home. It was smaller than she had expected it to be, homey and comfortably situated in between two other larger houses.
“Y/N!” Seungkwan greeted her as he opened the door, tugging her in. “Oh, look at you. You must be freezing. Come in, come in.” Taking her coat from her and hanging it up, he beamed down at her. “I’m so glad you actually came.”
She bit back a smile, taking off her shoes. “I couldn’t turn down an invitation from Vernon’s friends.”
“Vernon’s in the living room with the others.” Seungkwan pointed down the hall, directing her over.
Y/N paused, loitering in the hallway between the door to the living room and the door to the kitchen. She felt strangely pulled towards the kitchen, knowing it’d be safe without the chance of a potential run-in with Vernon. Turning decisively towards the kitchen, she pretended not to hear Seungkwan’s deep sigh as he followed her in, knowing the boy was disappointed she had run away.
“It’s the girl from Vernon’s photos!” Hoshi sprung off the kitchen island to greet her, handing her  a cup of mystery liquid.
She sniffed it before cringing away at the strong liquor scent. “That’s me.” She mumbled, shoulders sagging a little. “Does he really still have photos of me up?
Everyone in the kitchen nodded simultaneously. “It’s been on his wall since we were trainees.” Joshua informed her, his eyes holding a teasing glint. “Every time we move places he just puts it back up.”
Y/N didn’t really know what to do with that information. “Oh.” She replied, looking down in her cup, thinking. “I didn’t know that.”
Seungkwan let out a loud sigh once again. “You should go talk to him.”
She looked up.
“Please.” He added, his tone bordering on begging. “He’s been so grumpy. Especially during the holiday season. I got a pillow to the face for asking him a simple question yesterday.” He grumbled out, complaining about his moody roommate.
“What did you ask him?” Joshua asked, mildly curious.
Seungkwan shrugged. “Just if he was going back to New York.”
“Of course he threw a pillow at you.” Joshua rolled his eyes. “I’m surprised he didn’t just deck you, with how you were antagonizing him. You know very well he hasn’t gone back in years.”
Y/N watched the conversation silently, gagging quietly as she sipped the concoction Hoshi had handed her. She absorbed the information diligently, her eyes widening the more information she got on Vernon. Distance had turned him into a stranger - and now, well, she couldn’t really say she knew him at all. It was strange, having to admit someone she used to read like the back of her own hand was someone she now didn’t know at all.
“I’m going to the living room.” She decided, having had enough of the topic. If she kept listening to them talk about Vernon’s struggles and heartache about leaving her in New York one more minute she might find herself leaving for the night. Being in the same room with Vernon was just going to be awkward silence anyways. She knew he wasn’t brave enough to approach her. At least not tonight.
--
“Y/N!”
It was Mingyu and Wonwoo who greeted her from the couch, the two of them in the middle of an intense round of what looked to be Mariokart. They waved at her from their place, inviting her over to sit next to them. She was painfully aware of Vernon’s eyes staring at her from his place on the rug, fingers busy with a random puzzle that was lying out.
“Hi guys.” She smiled, sitting down, laughing when Mingyu pushed Wonwoo in an attempt to disrupt his driving.
“We didn’t know you were in Korea for Christmas!” Mingyu exclaimed. “Good thing Seungkwan bumped into you when he did and invited you over.”
She glanced at Vernon, who was doing his best to pretend like he wasn’t interested in their conversation. “Yeah. I moved here recently actually. Got a job writing for a TV show.”
Vernon’s eyes widened as he fixed his stare against the white rug.
“That’s cool.” Wonwoo smiled at Y/N, happy for her. “It’s good that you’re in Korea now.” He side eyed Vernon, frowning when he realized the boy hadn’t even spoken to Y/N. Nudging him with his foot, he gestured with his gaze. “Did you hear Vernon? Y/N got a job here.”
Vernon nodded stiffly before standing up. “I think Cheol hyung’s calling me, I’ll- I’ll go see what he wants.” And just like that he was gone, rushing out of the living room.
Wonwoo looked apologetically at Y/N. “I’m sorry about that.”
She shrugged, although her heart had cracked at the movement. “It’s okay.”
“Maybe now that you’re in Korea you guys can be friends again?” Mingyu suggested quietly, although a part of him wasn’t really certain about it. “Maybe?”
“Maybe.” She mumbled, taking another sip of her drink, feeling her face flush with heat. Anger or embarrassment, she couldn’t tell.
Maybe it was the alcohol speaking, but Y/N could feel her lips start to loosen the more she sat with Mingyu and Wonwoo, the party heading later into the night.
“You know I used to hate you guys.” She admitted all of a sudden, jolting both boys out of whatever conversation they were having.
“What?” Wonwoo frowned. “Why?”
“I hated Vernon for choosing you guys over me.” She lowered her eyes to the floor, feeling ashamed. “I know it’s childish of me, but hating you guys was how I dealt with it. I couldn’t bring myself to hate Vernon for his own actions.”
Mingyu looked at her with sad eyes as he patted her on the back gently. “I get that.” He reassured her, and she looked over at Wonwoo who was nodding as well.
“Do you still hate us?” Wonwoo asked, his voice calm.
She shook her head. “No. So I guess I’m just-” She paused. “Confused now.”
She hated how pitiful their looks made her feel as she sat there, nursing her half finished drink, mind spinning. Perhaps it was time to leave her silly childhood infatuation with Vernon in the past. It seemed like he had done so already anyways.
Tumblr media
10 HOURS TILL CHRISTMAS 2024:
Vernon felt like throwing up the moment he saw Y/N enter the party. It felt like a vision, something he had conjured up within his own mind, until the others had greeted her and shattered his vision into reality.
“Talk to her, you moron.” Seungkwan nudged him. He had retreated from the living room into the kitchen the moment Y/N had sat down with the others on the couch. It physically stung to be in the same room as her, with all the knowledge that he had failed her and their once cherished friendship.
He took another gulp of his drink instead of answering Seungkwan.
“She clearly still loves you, y’know.” The boy continued upon hearing Vernon’s silence. “Or else she wouldn’t be here. And didn’t you always tell us Y/N would follow you around like a puppy whenever you were back home as kids?”
Screw Seungkwan and his amazing, awfully selective memory.
“So?” Vernon mumbled, rolling his shoulders back and feeling himself tense. “Things change.”
“You’ve changed.”
Vernon stared at his friend, thrown off by the sudden harsh truths. “What?”
“I don’t think she’s changed at all, Vernon.” Seungkwan observed. “It’s you who’s changed and you who has to fix it.” He paused. “Or at least explain it to her. Why you don’t want to be friends anymore.”
“I do want to be friends.” He stated plainly.
Seungkwan cut his eyes at him, exasperated. “Then tell her that. Jeez, bro. You suck at this.”
“We’re swapping presents now!” Seungcheol poked his head out from behind the hallway door. “Everyone in the living room!”
Vernon grabbed his present from the counter and headed in behind Seungkwan and Joshua, turning the box in his hands as he examined the poor wrapping job he had done last night. He had bought the most generic gift he could find, knowing it was going to be a random swap with the boys. The thing he hadn’t accounted for was Y/N showing up - and now it had thrown both his present and him off the game.
“Grab a pair.” Seungcheol announced loudly to everyone in the room, as there was a mad scramble for partners.
Vernon found himself standing alone in the midst of his bandmates all already coupled up, limbs tangled together in an awkward mad dash for a partner. His eyes met the only other person with a partner and he stifled a pained cry.
“It looks like you and Y/N are exchanging gifts this year, Non.” Seungkwan shot him a large grin from his spot next to Mingyu.
He knew this had to be preplanned - fate couldn’t be this cruel, right?
“Go on.” Seungkwan poked him in the back, urging him to approach Y/N, who suddenly seemed to be very captivated by a nearby portrait of Seungcheol and Kkmua, placed on the shelf next to her. She stared at it intensely, although Vernon knew she was still hyper-aware of the fact that he was slowly walking towards her. She had that funny way of darting her eyes towards the person she was avoiding while not facing in their direction.
“Y/N.” Her name sounded so foreign yet so familiar across his tongue as he spoke.
“Vernon.”
Her voice felt like coming home.
“Here.” He placed his gift in her hands as he took hers, turning it awkwardly in his hands. “What is it?” He asked, shaking it gently.
The corners of her mouth lifted. “Telling you would defeat the purpose of it being a surprise.”
“You said that last time too.”
He watched her stiffen at his words and he immediately regretted bringing up the past. They both knew last time had been years ago.
“I guess I did.” She replied stiffly, turning his gift in her hands. “What’s yours?”
“Thought you liked your presents to be a surprise?” He recalled, remembering how she used to whine that he must wrap her presents, when the teenage him had insisted that just putting it in a bag would be fine.
“I do.” Her tone made it sound like she was just remembering that fact herself. She looked up and shot him an awkward smile. “I guess I don’t really know what to say.”
“Me either.”
He could’ve sworn he saw her face drop at his words.
They separated soon after, the uncomfortable silence taking over and suffocating them both out of the vicinity of each other. Vernon returned to his spot in the kitchen, picking at the pieces of takeout still leftover on the counter, listening to the others squabble over meaningless things.
He watched Y/N leave, feet rooted by the hallway door and mouth firmly shut closed - he didn’t trust himself to say goodbye to her - he knew that if he had, a million unsaid words would have spilled out and the night would have ended terribly for the both of them. But it was the fear that kept him still most of all, as he watched her exchange numbers with Seungkwan, hugging the others and promising to keep in touch. He stayed as still as a statue as the door shut behind her.
“You idiot.” Seungkwan turned to face him as soon as he locked the door.
“Seungkwan.” Seungcheol’s warning tone made Vernon look at him. He was sending a strong warning glance at the boy.
“What?” Seungkwan protested. “He is being stupid.”
“I think I’m going to head back.” Vernon mumbled, grabbing his coat and hurriedly throwing it on, Y/N’s gift clutched tightly under his arm as he headed for the door. “Thanks for the party, Coups hyung.” He called behind him, shutting the door behind him and welcoming in the cool, biting winter air.
He released the pent up breath that had been choking him all night and furiously wiped away the tears that had begun to form the moment he shut the door behind him.
“Idiot.” He quietly chided himself. “So stupid.”
Tumblr media
CHRISTMAS 2018:
“Are you really never going back to New York?” Joshua prodded at his arm with an insistent jab of a finger.
Vernon hummed in response. “There’s no point. My family prefers coming to Korea for the holidays anyways. They get to visit family here and everything.”
“What about your girlfriend?”
Vernon turned his head to see Joshua sporting a shit eating grin. “You know she’s not my girlfriend.”
“Might as well be.” He shrugged, pointing at the various photos that featured her against his wall. “Look at your pathetic loving gaze at her in all of these photos. You’re not even looking at the camera in any of these.”
Vernon frowned at his comment, taking a good look at the photos and realizing Joshua was right. “Doesn’t matter what I feel, hyung. She’s not my girlfriend.”
“She’ll never be if you don’t go back.” Joshua suddenly got serious, as he shifted in his seat to look at Vernon better. “Is there an actual reason why you won’t go back? I know we were too busy the last two years but this year we’re free.”
Vernon stayed silent even though the answer was clear as day in his mind. He was scared, terrified even. Terrified he had hurt her by neglecting her due to his heavy schedules, that she would slam the door in his face if he tried to visit her. “I don’t want to see her hate me.” He finally spat out, cringing as he said it.
Joshua let out a tiny noise of understanding. “So you’re avoiding her. Pretending so you don’t have to deal with the consequences.”
“When you put it like that you make me sound like an asshole.”
Joshua gave him a look that bordered on pitiful. “I don’t know what to tell you, man.”
“I’d rather remember her like this, y’know?” He said, pointing at the way she smiled at him in the pictures on his wall. “Instead of-”
“She might not hate you.” Joshua reminded him quietly from next to him.
“I really, really doubt that, hyung.”
Tumblr media
5 HOURS TILL CHRISTMAS:
It wasn’t computing properly into Vernon’s head that you had just gotten him the one thing he’s been wanting all his life.
He had been ogling the Novation Launchpad Pro that was currently sitting on his work table for the last hour, not really believing what he was seeing with his own two eyes. Unwrapping it had been a heart attack in of itself, as he opened up Y/N’s present to reveal the one thing that had been sitting on the top of his childhood wish list since he could remember. Even now, as a famous artist who could afford the splurge, he had never gotten it for himself, knowing it was a luxury and a purchase he didn’t necessarily need.
“What the fuck, Y/N.” He muttered in disbelief, sliding his palm down his face as he continued to stare at the gift. It was fucking fantastic and exactly what he wanted, and it made him feel even worse about the whole situation.
She might not hate you. He recalled the words Joshua had told him one time, Christmases ago.
“Someone who hated me wouldn’t have gotten me this, right?” He said aloud to himself, reaching a timid hand out to fiddle with the launchpad controls. “How did she even know we’d be exchanging gifts anyways?” And how on earth does she know I never got myself one? In what felt like a split second decision, Vernon felt himself walking towards the door of his apartment, sliding his shoes on and grabbing his keys - only one destination in mind. He had to fix this, somehow. Because there was no fucking way she still hated him.
Tumblr media
4 HOURS TILL CHRISTMAS:
She would’ve complained that the sudden doorbell at 3am woke her up but she hadn’t really been sleeping. Y/N had been lying in bed with her eyes wide open since the moment she’d gotten home, the bag of chocolates and various snacks from Vernon left on her kitchen counter. She had stifled a laugh when she opened it - even till this day, Vernon’s go to gift was still the same. Chocolate and snacks can never fail, he had told her, defending his choice of gift. Especially when you don’t know the person too well.
She supposed that line made sense for their situation too.
“Vernon?” She squinted at the figure standing on her porch in the dark. “What are you doing here?” She rubbed her eyes, mildly wondering if she was dreaming.
He rubbed the back of his neck awkwardly as he stared down at her. “You got me the launchpad.”
She blinked. “Yeah.”
“How’d you know?”
She stared back at him, stunned at his bluntness and the randomness of the current setting. “You never shut up about it.”
His mouth opened and closed again. She watched as he tried looking for words, his vocabulary ultimately failing him.
“Come inside.” She said quietly, noticing how the harsh winter wind blew at his thin coat. Dragging him gently inside, she shut the door behind them both, turning around awkwardly to face him. She never thought she’d ever see him in his apartment - yet he looked so perfect.
“I’m sorry.” He mumbled, eyes darting around her place, taking it all in. “I know it’s late.” Glancing down at her pajamas, his lips quivered in a small smile. “Cute.”
“What?” She stared at him indignantly, completely thrown off by his behaviour. “Are you drunk?” She reached out a hand to touch his face, trying to check his temperature, but he caught her hand in his before she could reach.
“I’m not drunk, Y/N.” He dropped her hand like it had burned him.
“Then what are you here for?”
She watched him moisten his lips as he stalled for time.
“I wanted to say sorry.” He finally said, his words tumbling out as if they had been held back for long enough. “I shouldn’t have cut you off like that.”
She thought she’d have a more visceral reaction to the apology she had been waiting for all this time, but she didn’t. “Why are you saying this now? It’s been nearly ten years, Vernon.”
“I know. I’m sorry.”
Her shoulders sagged at his words and the sight of his dejected, ashamed face. “Why didn’t you come back? Or text me?” She asked him, pleading for an answer.
He finally looked up and met her eyes. “I guess I was scared. I got busy one year and didn’t go back- and I neglected our friendship. And then-” He paused, his voice breaking. “I left, and time passed and staying away felt simpler than going back. No goodbye felt better than a bad one.”
“It wouldn’t have been a bad goodbye.”
He shook his head. “You hated me.”
She looked away, remembering all the times she had cursed him for leaving her behind when she was younger. “Maybe. But never for long.” She mustered all her courage to tell him her next words. “I loved you too much to hate you for very long.”
Vernon blinked at her. “You loved me?”
She hummed in response, still not quite looking at him. They stood there, by her door, in the dim lights of her apartment.
“How did you even get my address?” She suddenly asked, forgetting he shouldn’t have known where to find her.
Vernon stayed silent, his mind still reeling from the sudden love confession. She used to love me?
“Vernon.” Y/N nudged him.
“Oh.” He finally responded, although his own voice felt like light years away as his mind continued to reel. “I asked my sister. Didn’t know you guys still talked.”
“Oh.”
“You used to love me?” He asked, incredulous, not quite believing her words. “Why?”
She laughed, and the sound wrapped around Vernon like her hugs used to. “What do you mean, why? Of course I loved you. I followed you around like a lost kid our entire childhood.”
“I loved you too, y’know.”
Her smile dropped as she paused mid-laugh. “What?”
He took a step closer to her, unsure where the sudden confidence was coming from. Vernon searched her eyes for some figment of affection, for truth, for the way she used to look at him when they were younger. “I don’t think I ever stopped loving you.” He finally admitted. “I definitely tried to, but your hold on me lasted through distance and time.”
“Me too.”
“What?”
“I never stopped loving you too.”

First Dance
Tumblr media
James Potter x fem!reader
Summary: "I also thought it’d be a good moment to practice.” “Practice for what?” “The wedding dance,” he replied, as if it were obvious, his eyes locking onto yours with such intensity that your heart tightened. “I want it to be perfect, because it’s the moment I’ll remember forever. Just like this one.”

Part 6 of Marry Me
Masterlist
Tumblr media
The night was calm, wrapped in a serene air and soft light that streamed through the window, bathing the living room in the golden glow of the moonlight. The atmosphere felt familiar, with the marks of a busy day still evident: scribbled lists, flower samples scattered across the table, and the lingering scent of freshly brewed tea. You were in the final stages of wedding preparations, adjusting small details and deciding on things that didn’t seem important until they were.
James, with his eternally messy hair – as if it had just come from a friendly battle with the wind – and those vibrant blue eyes behind his glasses, was sitting on the couch, scribbling ideas on a piece of parchment. He wore a gray sweater that looked even softer under the light, and you couldn’t help but smile whenever you saw him like that, so focused and carefree at the same time.
It was then that soft music began to play on the small enchanted radio Sirius had gifted you. The melody was old, the kind that speaks of love in every note, full of nostalgia and tenderness. James lifted his gaze, and a slow, almost mischievous smile formed on his lips.
“This... this one’s perfect,” he said, dropping the parchment and standing up with the casual elegance that always seemed so natural to him. Before you could ask what he was planning, he extended his hand to you, his eyes sparkling with a silent invitation.
“James,” you began, laughing, “the room’s a mess.”
“Exactly,” he replied, with that slightly teasing tone you knew so well. “This way, we’ve already got a rehearsal for dancing in the middle of chaos.”
Without waiting, he took your hand and pulled you to the center of the room. His arms wrapped around you with a ease that made everything feel so right, as if the world outside could wait while you had that moment just for yourselves.
James wasn’t the best dancer in the world, but the way he moved with you made it seem like he was. His steps were simple, but every movement carried a smoothness that melted away any hesitation. His fingers traced a small circle on your waist as he kept the other hand securely in yours, his thumb reassuringly stroking your skin.
“Knew I’d make you dance one of these days,” he murmured, his face so close that you could feel the vibration of his words against your skin.
You laughed, resting your head on his chest, listening to the steady sound of his heartbeat, matching the rhythm of yours. “And you thought I wouldn’t notice your escape strategy from the preparations?”
“Maybe,” he admitted, tilting his head to look at you with that smug smile you loved so much. “But I also thought it’d be a good moment to practice.”
“Practice for what?”
“The wedding dance,” he replied, as if it were obvious, his eyes locking onto yours with such intensity that your heart tightened. “I want it to be perfect, because it’s the moment I’ll remember forever. Just like this one.”
His words were simple, but carried so much feeling that you could feel the warmth rising to your cheeks. He, of course, noticed and chuckled, lowering his head to nuzzle his nose against yours.
“Besides,” he continued, with the mischievous tone only he could pull off, “I think I can add a few pirouettes to impress the guests.”
You lightly shoved him, laughing, but he only pulled you closer, his face completely lit by the smile that seemed to belong only to you.
The music played on, and the dance, despite being a little awkward at times, was filled with laughter and exchanged glances that didn’t need words. James slowed his steps until you were practically still, gently swaying to the rhythm of the music.
“You know,” he began, his voice lowering to a near whisper, “I’ve never been great at planning big things, but with you... everything just makes sense.”
James rested his forehead against yours, breathing deeply as if capturing that moment in every detail. The soft melody filling the room seemed like the perfect backdrop to the world you had built together. There was no rush. Just the gentle sway of the two of you, following the rhythm of the music, and the comforting warmth of his arms around you.
“I promise this will be the first of many dances,” he murmured, his voice so low it seemed to blend with the beat of your heart. The touch of his lips against yours was brief, but full of a silent promise. He smiled slightly, a smile that was entirely his, somewhere between smug and absurdly affectionate. “In our living room, in the backyard, wherever we are.”
You laughed, your laugh soft and almost shy. “Even if it’s in the middle of the street?”
“Especially in the middle of the street,” he replied, his eyes sparkling with warm humor. “You can bet I’ll pull you into a dance, even if traffic stops.”
“You’re crazy,” you responded, shaking your head, but with the smile he always managed to bring out in you.
James tilted his head to the side, his expression softer now. “Maybe. But a crazy man completely in love with you.”
He held your hand between his, his thumbs lazily tracing circles on your skin. It was a simple gesture, but it carried the intimacy of years of shared understanding. James always had this way of making you feel like you were the only person in the world who mattered.
"Do you remember our first dance?" he asked, a glimmer of nostalgia crossing the blue of his eyes.
You smiled, warmth rising to your cheeks. "How could I forget? You stepped on my foot like five times."
James let out a laugh that made his chest vibrate, as if the sound was an extension of the love overflowing from him. "Five? You're being kind. I'm sure it was at least ten."
"But it was adorable," you admitted, your tone sincere. "I’d never seen anyone so determined to make me smile."
"Well," he replied, pulling you a little closer, "I think I did pretty well."
You nodded, resting your head on his shoulder. "Very well."
The music changed, but you stayed there, swaying gently. James’ eyes took on a more dreamy expression, as if he were putting together an invisible puzzle.
"I was thinking," he began, his voice low, almost as if he were sharing a secret, "when we have our own house... you know, with a big backyard, trees, and everything... do you think we could put one of those swing hammocks up? I’ve always imagined us swinging while we watch the kids play."
You looked up at him, surprised by the softness in his tone. "The kids?"
"Of course," he said, his smile widening. "Two, maybe three... maybe four, if we can handle the chaos."
"Four?!" you exclaimed, but there was more humor than shock in your voice.
James laughed, kissing your forehead tenderly. "Okay, maybe three. Or two. But they’ll definitely inherit your smile and my charm."
You rolled your eyes, but the warmth in your chest was undeniable. "You’re already planning the Quidditch team, aren’t you?"
"I admit it," he confessed, laughing. "But I was also thinking... do you think we’ll still dance like this when we’re old?"
The question was simple, but loaded with meaning. You felt your eyes fill with tears, but you smiled, wrapping your arms around him even more.
"James Potter," you said, your voice shaky but firm, "if you ask me to dance, no matter how many years have passed, I will always say yes."
He didn’t answer immediately. Instead, he lowered his head and captured your lips in a slow, tender kiss, but one filled with everything he felt for you. It was as if the world around you had stopped, and all that existed was the soft touch of his lips on yours and the warmth radiating from the love you shared.
When he pulled away, the smile was back, but his eyes were shining with emotion. "You’re everything to me," he whispered, as if it were a long-held secret.
"And you are to me," you replied, feeling that the words were insufficient, but true.
James pulled back slightly, as if he had remembered something important. He slid his hand into his pocket and pulled out a small velvet box. His eyes sparkled with curiosity, and he laughed when he saw your expression.
"It’s not what you think," he assured, opening the box to reveal a small star-shaped pendant, with a faint magical shimmer that made it seem to pulse with its own light.
"What’s this for?" you asked, touching the pendant gently.
"For you to wear on our wedding day," he said, his smile making your heart melt. "That way, you’ll always have a piece of our starry sky, no matter where you are."
You couldn’t respond. You simply hugged him again, feeling that no words could ever express how much he meant to you.
And in that moonlit room, with the soft music still playing in the background, you both knew that this was just the beginning of a life full of dances, smiles, and eternal love.

You arrived at the house in Whitby just as the sun began to set. The car ride felt like it took forever—four hours of “Are we there yet?” and “How much longer?” had even made Myle seem a little tired. But now you were finally here, and it was worth it.
The front door swung open, and Rich stood there, grinning down at you. “There’s my favourite little troublemaker!” he said, holding his arms out wide.
You giggled, running toward him with Twix clutched under your arm. “I’m not trouble!” you declared, though the smile on your face probably didn’t help your case.
“Oh, I bet you’re not,” Rich said, scooping you up into a big bear hug that made you squeal. “Myle been the one giving your mums trouble on the way here then?”
“Myle’s good! She’s better than Mamma in the car, she complained a lot!” you said with a grin, twisting to look at Viv.
Viv gasped, pretending to be offended. “What did I do?”
“You kept saying ‘watch out, Beth!’” you said, copying Viv’s voice and waving your arms dramatically. “And Mummy said you’re a backseat driver!”
Beth burst out laughing while Viv raised an eyebrow. “Oh, you are definitely trouble,” Viv said, but her smile gave her away as she shook her head and carried the bags inside.
You followed Beth into the living room, your eyes going wide as you spotted the Christmas tree in the corner. It was taller than the one at home, covered in twinkling lights and shiny ornaments. “It’s so big!” you gasped, running over to admire it.
“Not as big as you,” Beth teased, ruffling your hair as she joined you by the tree.
“I’m not big, I’m little!” you said, spinning around to look up at her.
“Oh really? Who was it that ate an entire chocolate bar in the car and said they were still hungry?”
“That was Myle!” you said quickly, giggling as Beth shook her head.
“Right, Myle’s got hands now, has she?” Beth shot back, grinning as she crouched down beside you. “Come here, Roo. I wanna show you something.”
She pointed to a few ornaments tucked near the middle of the tree. They weren’t shiny like the others—one was a little wooden snowman with paint chipping off, and another was a felt stocking with stitching that looked a little wonky.
“These are from when I was your age,” Beth said, pulling the stocking off the branch and holding it out to you. “Made this one all by myself. Can you tell?”
You tilted your head, inspecting the uneven stitches. “It’s messy,” you said honestly.
Beth gasped, “Messy?! Excuse me, Miss Perfect, but that took me hours.”
You giggled again, your fingers running over the felt. “It’s kinda good, though.”
“Oh, thanks so much,” Beth said, rolling her eyes. She pulled another ornament off the tree, this one a glittery ball with your name on it. “Now, this one’s brand new. Grandad picked it out just for you. What do you think?”
Your eyes lit up as you grabbed the ornament carefully. “It’s mine?”
“Yours,” Beth said. “But you have to hang it up yourself. That’s the rule!”
Viv appeared then, carrying one of the suitcases. “What are we hanging up?”
“Roo’s ornament,” Beth said, watching as you turned to look at the tree, deciding where it should go.
“Put it right at the top!” Viv said, but Beth shook her head.
“Too high. If she puts it there, she’ll grow up thinking she’s a giant.”
You turned to her, your hands on your hips. “I am a giant!”
Beth burst out laughing, pulling you into a hug and tickling your sides. “You are ridiculous, you know that?”
You squealed, twisting away. “Stop, stop!”
“Alright, alright. Come here, I’ll lift you up so you can put it wherever you want,” Beth said, hoisting you up as you held the ornament carefully.
“Here!” you said, pointing to a branch near the middle.
“Good choice, Roo!” Beth said, holding you steady while you slid the ornament onto the branch.
When she set you back down, you turned to Viv and grinned. “Now it’s perfect.”
Viv nodded. “It’s definitely perfect now.”
“Mummy, what’s this one?” You asked Beth, pointing to a little star.
It was a slightly lopsided ornament of a star made out of popsicle sticks, painted in uneven gold with bits of glitter clinging to it, and a ribbon loop at the top.
“Oh, that’s an old one,” Beth said, reaching out to take it off the branch. She held it in her hands for a moment, her smile softening. “I made this with Nana June and Uncle Ben when I was little, just a bit older than you I think!”
“With Nana June?” you asked curiously. You knew her name and a lot about her. She was always talked about in your house.
Beth nodded, crouching down so she was on your level. “Yeah, with my mum, your Nana June. It was Christmas Eve, and we had a little craft kit she bought at the shop. Ben wanted to make a snowman, but I insisted on the star. Said it was more ‘Christmassy.’”
“Did you fight?” you asked, giggling because you knew what Beth and Ben were like.
“Oh, absolutely,” Beth said with a grin, tickling your side lightly. “Ben said my star was rubbish, so Nana June made him make one, too. His wasn’t any better, by the way.”
You giggled, “It’s kinda wonky,” you observed.
“Wonky?” Beth gasped, “You’ve got so much to say about my crafting skills tonight, don’t you? Little miss perfect!”
You giggled harder, holding the star up to Viv. “Look, Mamma, Mummy made this, and it’s wonky!”
Viv crouched down beside the two of you, pretending to inspect the ornament like it was some kind of antique. “Hmm
 I don’t know, Roo. It’s got character. I think it’s perfect!”
Beth pointed at Viv. “Thank you! Finally, someone who appreciates fine art.”
You tilted your head at the star, turning it in your hands. “Nana June helped you?”
“She did,” Beth said, her voice softening again. “She helped me hold the glue, and she made sure Ben didn’t stick the popsicle sticks to the table. She was really good at that kind of thing.”
Beth’s smile grew a little wistful as she brushed a piece of hair from your face. “She would’ve loved you, Roo. She always wanted grandkids. She’d have spoiled you rotten.”
“Like Grandad does?”
“Exactly like Grandad,” Beth said, laughing. “Probably even worse. You’d have so much chocolate, you’d bounce off the walls!”
Viv chuckled, slipping an arm around Beth. “We’d never get her to bed.”
You smiled, looking down at the star again. “Can I hang it up?”
Beth nodded, her hand resting on your back. “Of course you can. Pick a good spot.”
You looked at the tree carefully, finally deciding on a branch right near the front. You hung the star up gently, stepping back to admire your work.
“Perfect,” you said proudly.
Beth smiled, pulling you close and kissing the top of your head. “Perfect.”
“Right then!” Rich said, coming back into the living room, “Who wants hot chocolate?”
“Me! Me!” You said, jumping up from Beth’s lap, “I want hot chocolate!”
The next few days passed quickly with Beth, Viv and Rich keeping you occupied with Christmas activities and before you knew it, it was Christmas Eve. Your excitement was hard to contain as Christmas Day grew closer and closer.
You were practically jumping with excitement as Beth handed you a wrapped box while preparing for a movie night. “What’s this?” you gasped, eyes wide as you looked from her to Viv.
“It’s your Christmas Eve box!” Beth grinned, settling onto the couch beside you. “Go on, open it.”
Ripping through the wrapping paper with enthusiasm, you let out a squeal of delight. Inside, there were new pyjamas covered in little reindeer, a packet of hot chocolate mixed with marshmallows, a small stuffed penguin, and a tiny jar of glittery “reindeer food.”
“Look at this!” you exclaimed, pulling out the penguin and hugging it to your chest. “And what’s this?” you asked, shaking the jar of reindeer food.
“That’s for the reindeer!” Viv explained, “We sprinkle it outside so they know where to land.”
You gasped, “Can we do it now?”
“In a bit,” Beth said, smoothing down your hair. “First, let’s get you into your new pyjamas and make some hot chocolate.”
You dashed upstairs, Viv following close behind to help you change. It didn’t take long with you rushing her. Moments later, you returned, practically tripping over your own feet in your excitement.
“Look! I’m a reindeer now!” you declared, showing off the little antlers on the hood of your pyjamas.
“You’re adorable,” Beth said, grabbing her phone for a quick picture. “Alright, hot chocolate time.”
You ran into the kitchen with Beth and Viv following close behind, you made Beth grab a chair so you could help Viv and be a little chef. Once the hot chocolate was made and gone, you, Beth, Viv and Rich bundled up in coats and scarves to head outside. Viv held the jar of reindeer food while Beth held your hand and led you outside. Together, you sprinkled the sparkly mixture across the snowy lawn.
“Do you think they’ll like it?” you asked, looking up at Viv.
“They’ll love it,” Viv assured you, crouching down to help you spread the last handful. “This will guide them straight to the house.”
Back inside, you helped Beth set out cookies and a glass of milk for Santa, carefully placing a carrot next to the plate. “For the reindeer,” you explained seriously as if Beth didn’t already know.
Finally, it was bedtime. You climbed into your bed, clutching the penguin from your Christmas Eve box and Twix, your face lit with excitement. “Will Santa really come?” you asked as Viv tucked the blankets around you.
“Of course,” Viv said, sitting on the edge of your bed. “But only if you’re asleep.”
Beth sat on the other side, holding a storybook. “How about a Christmas story to help you settle?”
You nodded eagerly, and Beth began to read, her voice warm and animated. But every few sentences, you interrupted with a new question.
“How will Santa find me here?”
“Will the reindeer eat the carrot?”
“What if Myle and Rona scare him away?”
Viv stifled a laugh while Beth patiently answered each question. Finally, your eyelids began to droop, and your questions slowed. By the time Beth closed the book, you were snuggled deep into your blankets, the penguin and Twix tucked under your arm.
“Goodnight, Roo,” Beth whispered, kissing your forehead.
“Sweet dreams, mijn meisje,” Viv added, smoothing your hair.
As they slipped out of your room, they exchanged knowing smiles. “Think she’ll stay asleep?” Beth whispered.
“Not a chance,” Viv murmured, but her smile was fond.
Downstairs, they got to work. Presents were carefully arranged under the tree, with a few special ones labelled From Santa. Viv arranged them while Beth teased her for overthinking it. Stockings were filled with small treats, and a handwritten note from “Santa” was propped up against the mantel by Rich.
When everything was ready, Beth stood by the tree, her expression softening. “She’s going to love it,” she said quietly.
“She will,” Viv agreed, slipping an arm around Beth’s waist. “Your mum would have loved this too.”
Beth nodded, blinking back tears. “It’s just hard, you know? First Christmas without her.”
Viv hugged her tightly. “She’d be proud of you, liefje. You’re giving Rory the kind of Christmas she’d have wanted.”
The house was still alive with the warmth of Christmas Eve as Rich emerged from the kitchen, carrying a tray of snacks. “What are you two doing sneaking around the tree like that?” he teased, eyeing Beth and Viv as they fussed with the presents.
“Making Christmas perfect, Dad,” Beth replied, wiping her hands on her jeans. “Santa’s got high standards.”
“Does he now?” Rich chuckled, setting the tray on the coffee table. “Well, you two might want to wrap it up before our little elf sneaks back down here.”
“She would’ve loved Roo,” Beth said, her voice barely above a whisper. “Spoiled her rotten, probably.”
“Absolutely,” Rich agreed, pulling Beth into a one-armed hug. “She’d be so proud of you, love. You and Viv are doing a brilliant job.”
Beth leaned into him, her eyes glistening. “Thanks, Dad.”
“Alright,” Rich said, clapping his hands together to break the moment. “Enough of the soppy stuff. Who’s got room for mince pies?”
Viv raised an eyebrow. “You mean the ones Rory said were ‘yucky’?”
Rich laughed, shaking his head. “That kid. More for me then. But you better save her a slice of that chocolate log, or there’ll be trouble tomorrow.”
“She’s already trouble,” Beth muttered, but there was a fond smile on her face.
The three of them shared a quiet moment, the glow of the Christmas tree casting soft light over the room. Eventually, Rich yawned and stood, stretching. “Alright, I’ll leave Santa’s little helpers to finish up. Don’t stay up too late—you’ve got an early morning ahead of you.”
Beth stood, giving her dad a quick hug. “Night, Dad.”
“Night, love. Night, Viv.” Rich headed upstairs, leaving the two of them to admire their handiwork.
“You ready for bed?” Viv asked, slipping her hand into Beth’s.
Beth nodded, glancing at the tree one last time. “Yeah. Let’s make tomorrow perfect.”
Christmas morning began exactly as expected.
Your squeals echoed through the house as you sprinted into Beth and Viv’s room, jumping onto their bed with a burst of energy. “Wake up! Santa came! Mummy, Mamma, wake up!”
Beth groaned, pulling the blanket over her head. “Too early, Roo
”
Viv peeked out from under her pillow, laughing softly. “Santa doesn’t come this early in the morning.”
“Yes, he does! He’s already been, silly Mamma!” You insisted, bouncing on the bed. “I saw the presents!”
Beth reluctantly sat up, rubbing her eyes. “Alright, alright, we’re up. But you’ve got to cuddle first. Five more minutes, Roo.”
You huffed dramatically but crawled between them, your giggles making it impossible for Beth and Viv to keep up their sleepy charade.
Soon, you couldn’t contain yourself anymore. “Can we go now? Please, please, please?”
Beth laughed, pulling her out of bed. “Alright, let’s go see what Santa brought.”
The three of you padded downstairs, Myle bounding ahead, her tail wagging furiously with Rona’s.
When you saw the living room, you froze, your mouth dropping open. The room was transformed: stockings were full, presents were piled high, and the Barbie Dreamhouse you had asked for a few days short of Christmas sat assembled next to your new bike.
“Santa came!” You squealed, your voice full of awe.
Rich appeared in the doorway, coffee in hand, grinning at the sight of you. “Told you he wouldn’t forget you, Roo.”
You ran to him, “Grandad, look at my bike!”
Beth and Viv exchanged a smile, watching as you darted around the room, inspecting every detail.
The rest of the morning passed in a whirlwind of joy. You carefully unwrapped your gifts, squealing with delight at each one. Myle and Rona happily chewed their new toys, adding to the chaos.
Your excitement grew as you unwrapped each present, you played with each one for a little bit before moving on to the next.
Beth chuckled as you abandoned a new stuffed giraffe mid-squeeze to race over to the dollhouse. “Look, Mummy! It’s got an elevator! It goes up and down!” You moved the tiny dolls around with enthusiasm, your little hands barely big enough to hold them.
Viv crouched beside you, helping adjust one of the tiny chairs. “Wow, Santa really outdid himself, didn’t he?”
You nodded seriously before spotting another wrapped box with your name on it. “Oh! What’s that?” you exclaimed, dashing over to it and dropping the doll mid-play.
Rich laughed from his spot on the couch. “She’s like a whirlwind today.”
Beth settled next to him, “She’s always a whirlwind.”
The next gift revealed a bright blue set of walkie-talkies, and you gasped. “Mummy! Mamma! We can talk to each other!”
“Do they work through walls?” Beth teased, taking one.
“Let’s try!” you said, already running to the kitchen. “Can you hear me, Mummy?”
Beth pressed the button, her voice crackling through. “Loud and clear, Roo.”
Your giggle echoed back over the line before you darted back into the room, abandoning the walkie-talkie to tear into yet another gift. This one held a craft set, complete with glitter, stickers, and markers.
“Can we make something now?” you asked, eyes wide with excitement.
“Later, mijn meijse,” Viv said with a soft smile, gently redirecting you to another toy. “We’ve got plenty more to open first.”
And so the morning went—each new toy captivating you for just long enough before your attention was caught by another shiny bow or brightly coloured box. By the time all the presents were unwrapped, the living room looked like an explosion, wrapping paper and ribbons scattered everywhere.
The day passed quickly and before you knew it you were sitting at the table with Beth, Viv, Rich, Ben and his girlfriend Olivia having Christmas dinner.
You sat at the table, legs swinging under your chair as you happily munched on a piece of turkey. The table was filled with food—roast potatoes, stuffing, Brussels sprouts (which you avoided like the plague), and gravy.
Beth leaned over, “Roo, is that all the potatoes you’re eating? I thought you said you were a potato monster.”
You giggled, pointing at the small pile on your plate. “I am a potato monster! Look, I ate three already!”
Ben chimed in, smirking. “Only three? A real potato monster eats at least ten!”
“Ten?!” Your eyes widened in mock horror. “That’s too many, Mummy!”
Beth grinned. “Maybe you’re just a potato trainee then. Not a full monster yet.”
You crossed your arms, trying to look serious, “I am a real monster!”
“But if you don’t finish them, Santa might take back the Barbie Dreamhouse,” Ben added.
“Ben!” Olivia scolded, nudging him with her elbow.
You looked up, wide-eyed, clutching your fork. “He wouldn’t!”
Beth laughed so hard she nearly choked on her drink. “Roo, don’t listen to Uncle Ben. He’s just jealous Santa didn’t bring him a Dreamhouse.”
Ben raised his hands in mock surrender. “Alright, alright. I’ll stop.”
The teasing subsided for a while as everyone enjoyed their meal. You leaned into Viv’s side, “Mamma, they’re silly.”
Viv kissed the top of your head. “They are, but they love you.”
As the evening wound down, you curled up on the sofa between Beth and Viv, clutching your new stuffed giraffe with Twix beside you. You fell asleep and cuddled up to Viv’s side after a long day of trying out all of your new toys.
“I think she’s out,” Viv laughed, brushing a bit of your hair out of your face. “Shall we carry her up to bed?”
Beth nodded, standing up and carefully picking you up in her arms, cradling you close. “Let’s get her tucked in. It’s been a big day for our little munchkin.”
Viv followed, grabbing the stuffed giraffe and Twix that had slipped from your grip as you snoozed. The three of you made your way up the stairs, the soft glow of the Christmas tree lights still visible from the living room.
Once in your room at Rich’s, Beth gently laid you down in your bed, tucking the covers around you. Viv placed the giraffe beside you, its soft fur brushing your cheek with Twix. You stirred slightly, mumbling something incoherent, but quickly settled back into a peaceful slumber.
“Goodnight, Roo,” Beth whispered, leaning down to kiss your forehead.
Viv smiled, brushing a strand of hair from your face. “Sweet dreams, mijn meisje.”
As they turned off the light and quietly closed the door, they exchanged a look—a mix of love and exhaustion. “She’ll be up at the crack of dawn again tomorrow,” Beth murmured with a laugh.
Viv chuckled, wrapping an arm around her. “Wouldn’t have it any other way.”

Re: today is awful  From: Meian Shƫgo I can make your day 10 times better if you come over tonight ;)
The woman stared down at the email with baited breath, held it so long she thought she might get dizzy. Until finally a strangled breath passed her lips, filled her lungs before she swallowed harshly. Over and over, she read the sentence; over and over until her heart surged to her throat with her cheeks hot.
He sent that to her work email.
A cheeky habit the pair had, emailing each other. A nice surprise to see kind, often silly emails, throughout the day - sometimes he sent pictures from practice, but more often than not he sent terrible dad jokes - so she always replied. Normally, she would send an update about her day, and he would always reply with an endearing message back. But today was different, today was spicy; Meian had a fire underneath him and didn't mind the consequences.
She pulled her bottom lip between her teeth as she swiped away from the email; torn between wanting to smile and wanting to tear him apart for sending something like that. Her fingers were quick to find his contact and hit call, and she decided to draw and quarter him the moment he picked up.
The man was at practice around this time, and she knew he had slinked himself away just to answer - which only made her more riled. He answered because he knew what the call was about, no doubt.
“You got my email, didn't you?” A coy question that made her stomach drop and twist in knots; the man had the unique affinity of leaving her breathless. “You miss me that much, sweetheart?” His voice was laced with a faux sense of sympathy, a teasing aura muddled behind a true care and compassion for the woman.
“You can't send shit like that through a work email, Meian!” A hushed tone as she put force behind the man's name, which only made a chuckle sound from the other end of the line. “Oh yeah, laugh it up, those emails are screened by the way. Let's not forget I work at a school.”
“It wasn't even that bad,” he reasoned. “So put the family name away, I could've sent a lot worse.”
“I bet you could've, jackass,” she rolled her eyes at his brashness. Her eyes flickered up to the closed door of her classroom, then to the clock on the back end of the wall. At least he knew the times when people weren't in her classroom, that was the only redeeming arc of it all. “Not the point though. Use your brain before you send an email like that again. Think to yourself: is this helpful, is this kind, will it get flagged by my girlfriend's work because I don't know how to contain myself?”
Another chuckle, and she let out a loud groan. “Pretty hot when you use that tone with me,” he chided, she could practically hear him smirking through the line. “You should use it when-”
“Dear god, don't finish that sentence right now.” She closed her eyes and groaned once more, and the twinge of exhaustion that settled upon her was apparent even over the phone. He frowned once the tone had shifted, although she couldn't see it.
“Alright, alright, I'm sorry.” Spoken genuinely, with a small breath, before she heard him smile again. “‘Love you.”
There was a small pause, one she could’ve excused as poor signal, but didn’t as she took a sharp inhale. The pair had just recently shared the intimacy of such words of adoration, pouring their hearts out on a drunken escapade that spilled over into the next day, and the day after that. The freshness of the statement still made her stomach fill with butterflies and her cheeks hot; for once, she was glad he wasn’t around to see just how flustered he made her.
“I love you, too.”
She heard him hum just before the loud bang of a door swinging open on his end rang through. “I’ve been found,” he chuckled, “I’ll talk to you later, alright?”
“Have fun at practice, ShĆ«.” Instead of his own voice ringing through; however, another took its place. Farther back from the phone, as if they were in front of the man she wished to speak to, and loud - obnoxious.
“Holy fuck is that your girlfriend? Let me talk to her!”
The click of the call ending was loud, and she only chuckled when she took the phone from her ear.
3 new notifications from ShĆ« â€ïžđŸÂ  never said I wouldn't text you though [image attachment] you should still come over 😏 I can make you forget all about your bad day

Marry Christmas and happy holidays!
I am so sorry this took forever way longer than I wanted but it came out just in time for Christmas. This is one of the dirtiest things I have written in a long time. I really hope you guys enjoy this. As always requests are open and I will be doing headconns now as well. This was not proofread please comment and share
Four long weeks, four long weeks alone, four long weeks without him. You hated it when he got sent on long missions. Logan and you had been by each other's side ever since he found you, and somewhere along the way, you had fallen in love with him; one drunk night later, you woke up naked in his bed.
“Sorry I'm late, baby, I stopped and picked up something.” You grin when you hear his voice and look at where he is standing in the doorway. Logan smiled as you walked closer to him before you locked your arms around his neck and his hands went to your waist.
“You didn't have to do that, baby; I'm just happy you're home,” you tell him before standing on your tippy toes and kissing his lips, but before you can pull back, he deepens the kiss. Logan groans as you pull him just as close, your nails run through his hair and down his chest, and he finally pulls away, both of you breathing hard.
“Come on, baby, let me show you what I got,” he grins and grabs your hand as he heads for the front door. You shiver a bit at the cold and smile softly at the snow that is softly falling. The woods around you looked like a winter wonderland.
“Ah, it's cold,” you laugh before running back in and grabbing your shoes and jacket. Once you make it back outside, you follow his footprints to his truck, where he is unloading a smallish tree inside.
“You got me a tree!?” You squeal excitedly, making him chuckle as he pulls it out of the truck and slings it over his shoulder.
“Yeah, I got ya a tree; I know you love this time of year,” he says, coming to stand in front of you, and you smile up at him.
“How did I get so lucky to have you?” You say, leaning up to peck his lips just as the snow starts to fall harder.
“You got that wrong, princess. I'm the lucky one in this deal,” he smiles while grabbing her hand, and they head inside, and Logan sets the tree in place.
“So I may have gone to town before the snow happened, and I might have gotten you something too.” You grin as he sits in his chair, and you pour him a drink.
“Yeah? What you get, baby?” he asks while sitting down the drink and taking his shirt off leaving him in his boots and Wrangler jeans. It took every ounce of self-control not to fuck it and crawl in his lap.
“I'll be right back,” you tell him as you hurry to the bedroom and strip down as you try to find the pair of lingerie you had gotten. Once you found it, you put the top on that pushed your breasts up and was lace and through, along with a matching thong and stockings. You grab one of his shirts and throw it on as you make your way back to the living room.
“That my shirt princess?” He asks setting up a bit as he spreads his legs a bit more. You nod as you walk over to him and slowly straddle him.
“If you want to see your gift, you have to unwrap me,” you tell him, your lips brushing his. Logan leans up just enough to kiss you, and you moan. Logan's hands run up his shirt, finding the top and tugging at it. The shirt is ripped, and buttons fly across the room.
“Fuck baby, you look good enough to eat,” he says, his hands grabbing your breasts in his big hands, making you softly moan. You lean down and kiss him, biting his lip making him growl and pull you closer. You grind down on his covered hard cock and moan.
“Let me suck you, Daddy. I missed your cock in my throat,” you moan in his ear before biting and kissing your way to his neck. You reach the spot where his neck and shoulder meet and bite, leaving your teeth marks behind, making him groan and thrust his hips up, making you moan. You pull back from his neck. The feeling of Logan's hand around your neck made you shiver and clinch around noting.
“Have you been a good girl?” He asks, his voice low and husky, and you whimper. Logan's hand runs down your body and into your thong and he groans at how soaked you are for him.
“I'm always your good girl* you smirk and lick your lips, making his grip tighten just a bit, and you bite your lip. Logan pulled his hand out of your thong and undid his belt, and undone his pants. His cock sprang free. He was thick and hard. Precum has started to gather at the tip. Logan let your neck go and you went back to kissing and biting down his body. You lock eyes with him as you take the head of his cock in your mouth and suck and lick the head and tip.
“Fuck baby, I missed you,” he groans, his hand threading through your hair as you started to take him deeper. You moan and take him as deep as you can till you gag and pull off his cock, drool coming out of your mouth and sliding down his cock, helping you pump him as you take a breath.
“I love the way you taste” You smirk and suck his balls into your mouth and suck, making his hand tighten in your hair.
Ah fuck” he moans his head falling back. You look up and watch as Logan loses himself to the pleasure you are giving him. Leaning up, you take him as far down your throat as he could go, and you moan around him. Logan holds your head in place and starts to thrust his hips.
‘Cum in my throat, fuck, I'm so wet for you,’ you moan in his mind using your power.
“Fuck princess, you suck my cock so well, I can smell how soaked you are for me,” he growls. Thoughts of what he was about to do to you ran through his mind pushing him over the edge, and he cums down your throat, and you moan. You let his cock slide out of your mouth and show him your cum covered tongue before you close your mouth and show him your clean tongue.
“I want you so bad” you moan as your cunt throbs with need. You crawl up his body to where you're straddling him. Logan's hands go back to your hips, and you moan as he rocks you on his still-hard cock.
“What do you want, princess?” he asks huskily, his hand leaving your hip and holding your throat. Logan's lips brush yours as he speaks.
“I want you to fuck me till I can't walk; I want you to fuck me till the only word I can say is your name. I want you to fuck me so hard we break the bed. I want to feel you cum deep inside me” you tell him breathless as your hips never stop moving. You're so wet you're dripping on his cock, and Logan groans at your words. Without warning, Logan's hands go under your ass as he stands holding you steady. You take this time to kiss and bite down his neck up to his ear and your back hits the wall.
“Keep it up, and we won't make it to the bed, princes,s,” he growls huskily in your neck as he sucks and bites your ne,ck, leaving marks beh, ind, making you moan and pull tightly at his hair.
“I have been thinking about this since you left Logan; you coming home an fucking me into the bed,” you moan, grinding your hips against his. Logan's grip on you tightens, and his hips pin yours to the wall, without another word, he grabs you and tosses you to the bed, making you giggle as you bounce on the bed. Logan was on you in seconds and you reached up to tangle your fingers in his hair and pulled him down to kiss him deeply.
“Yeah? Tell me baby: I wanna know all your dirty thoughts” he says huskily as his hands cup your breasts and you moan.
“Your mouth and teeth on my body. Leaving Marks as you work your way down and make me squirt for you. I want you to fuck me so good I walk funny the next day” you tell him your lips brushing his and he groans when you thrust your hips up rubbing his hard cock. Without another word Logan latches onto your neck and you moan as he bites a mark in your neck. You run your nails lightly on his bare shoulders Logan's mouth travels down your body leaving bite marks as he goes till he reaches your dripping cunt.
“Fuck baby she's soaked for me” he says huskily as he opens your legs as wide as they would go. You were so exposed to his hungry eyes but it didn't embarrass you it did the opposite.
“Always wet for you; please Logan I need your mouth on me” you whine making him chuckle at your needy tone and begging. Logan spread your lips and spits on your cunt making you moan at the feeling. Without another word he dives in, eating you out like it's his last meal. You cry out your hands tangling in his hair pulling him closer. Without warning Logan pulls back and locks his eyes with yours as he dips his fingers in your soaking cunt making you moan at the feeling.
“Open, Taste that? Best fucking pussy I have ever tasted”
” he growls huskily, you do as Logan says and open your mouth for him and he puts his wet fingers in your mouth you moan and suck his fingers clean.
“Please fuck me, I need you to stretch me open, to fuck me and make me cum like only you can” you beg your nails run down his chest leaving red lines as you do making him groan and his head falls back.
“Fuck! You're such a good gir” he groans while rubbing his hard ccock through your folds
“Use me daddy, fuck me full of your cum” you moan when he smacks your cunt than rubs your clit. Logan's hand wraps around your throat as he lines his cock up to your entice.
“Such a dirty fucking mouth” he growls teasesing you even more making you whine.
“You love my dirty mouth especially when it's wrapped around your cock” you say breathlessly, you need him inside you, fucking you into the bed.
“Yeah but there is something else I love even more it's the sounds you make when I'm balls deep in you “ he growls the last part as the thrusts into you going balls deep making you cry out in pleasure and in pain. Your nails leaves marks down Logan's back as he fucks you hard and deep.
“Oh fuck Logan! You're so deep!” You moan, clawing his back as he drills into you roughly. His hand holding your neck brings you to his lips where he kisses you sloppily. Without warning Logan flips so you was on top making you moan loudly as he goes even deeper.b
“Fuck baby ride me” he growls slapping your ass your hands land on his chest as you start to rise up and down on him then grinding down. You lean down and kiss him deeply niping his lip making his hold on you tighten.
“Oh! Right there Logan “ mmmh oh fuck imma cum” you cry out as Logan plows into holding your hips in place fucking up ipro you.
“Cum for Daddy baby squirt all over me” he growls huskily you were so close and his dirty words send you over the edge. You scream as you cum your nails leaving bloody marks on his chest as your head falls back as pleasure washes over you.
“That's my good girl squirting all over me, ah fuck your squeezing me so tight” he groans as you become so tight he almost has to pull out. As you come down Logan has moved you to laying on the bed and him hovering over you. You cling to him as he starts to fuck you harder than before.
“Logan fuck a baby into me* you moan out to cock drunk to realize what you were saying but your words trigger something in him and Logan pulls out and flips you on your hands and knees before he re enters you. One of Logan's hands tangles in your hair as he smacks your ass as he fucks you.
“Want me to fuck you full of cum? Want to have my baby?” He growls in your ear, his thrusts slowing but no less hard. Logan's mouth and teeth latch onto your neck as he is reduced to grunts and growls.
“Yes! Fill me full Logan fuck me so good you knock me up” you moan filthully you were so close to another climax and so was Logan.
“Fuck” he growls through cleanches teeth as he stills as he cums deep inside of you. The feeling of Logan coming in you triggers yours and you cum hard liquid shooting out of you and soaking him and the sheets.
You lay there on your stomach as you try to catch your breath. Your body feeling oversensitive. You moan softly as Logan pulls and you roll over sluggishly and spread your legs as Logan grabs the wipes beside the bed and cleans you both up.
“Mmm still gotta take care of the tree” you say sleepily, your head now resting on Logan's chest and his arms holding you close and he chuckles.
“rest princess we can do that later” he says softly kissing the top of your head as you start to doze off.

I recently finished watching Season 1 and 2 of Invincible, and felt like drawing Rex Splode. I liked his arc in season 2 since one of my favorite tropes is jerk who learns his lesson and tries his best to make amends.

#finally ended the relationship that took all my health and happiness from me :)#many lessons learned#unfortunate that I am so nosey as to know about the constant lies but I would probably still be trapped otherwise#like actually insane that the person i trusted most in the world can speak about me like that#but i know it’s really nothing to do with me it just sucks#couldnt lie FOR me so outed me as a sex worker but 100% fine with lying ABOUT me behind my back#if you are reading this and are confused thats even worse btw#i thought it would be difficult but you have made it very very easy#i am thankful for that much#x#8 years of my life wasted i wish we never met#all the signs were there the first time and i still came back and hung around like an idiot#i feel a need to try to warn ykw but i dont think he will listen / i will just make him paranoid. so#i still wanted to cohabit but obviously this is impossible if you cannot be honest with yourself#but sure leave me with nothing except resentment and resign yourself to misery. cool dude#i stood by your side when it got hard for you & when it got hard for me you abandoned me. fuck you forever never speak to me again#i’m ngl this relationship has made me so averse to labelling myself as a femme because this butch acts like a man#it was so hard to keep that to myself for the entire relationship but i can say it now#(breathes a giant sigh of relief)#there’s just soooo much
#always an excuse#its so tiring its so old. my main feeling around all of this is just a bottomless fucking pit of disappointment#like how is ur response to me saying its over that you have shitty partner disorder lmfao#ughhh sorry i treated you like absolute shit for 6+ years i had no choice because i suck#please be serious. actually dont its easier to leave when you live in genuine fucking delusion#BYEEEEE

Fool Me Twice [4/?]
After more than a month, I'm back with this update which is... not extremely long, but I figured I would post it before I lose confidence :')
Part 4 ft. (the aftermaths of) fake dating, a cold, and an office conversation
You can read part 1 [here]! (No additional context is needed aside from the previous 3 parts.)
—
Work resumes on the 3rd. Yves thinks of all the ways he might thank Vincent for all the trouble—a late New Year’s gift? (But he doesn’t know what Vincent would like, except presumably useful things, but if they’re useful, shouldn’t Vincent have them already?) An invitation to dinner at some nice restaurant? (But what if Vincent sees it as another inconvenient proposition—as more time outside of work which he’ll be obligated to spend with someone he doesn’t even know that well?) A gift card to a nice restaurant? (But would that not come across wrong—presumptuous at best, condescending at worst?)
Normally, Yves would ask Margot—ever the voice of reason—for advice, but it occurs to him, now, that he won’t be able to consult any of his college friends about this if he intends to keep up the lie.
And there’s that, too. If he intends on going to any future events that Margot—or any of his other college friends, at that—will host, he’ll have to tell them that he and Vincent have broken up since (which will only serve to prove Erika’s point that Yves isn’t everything he’s made himself out to be—at least, when it comes to relationships), or think of some sort of way to excuse Vincent’s continued absences.
If one thing’s for sure, it’s that asking any more of Vincent than he’s already asked is entirely out of the question.
Yves drives himself to work on Tuesday morning, gets to his office earlier than most, says hi to Cara and Laurent, and gets to work. It’s easy enough to settle into work again, to a 10am meeting with the team and another couple calls with clients, to all the paperwork and data analysis he’d for himself before the winter holidays.
Vincent usually gets to work early—he’s always there when Yves gets to the office—and stays late. He’s usually at the break room at 10:15, unless he has a meeting of some sort, for his usual morning coffee. He works on the same floor, but his cubicle is far enough away that Yves can’t see him from where he sits.
Yves doesn’t look for him. Better to catch him in the morning in the break room or at lunch in the company cafeteria, Yves thinks, as to not risk interrupting him in the middle of something important.
But Vincent—despite showing up to a morning conference with the team—is surprisingly absent from the break room at 10:15. And then Yves ends up working with Cara on an upcoming presentation until 1, and when he gets to the cafeteria, Vincent isn’t there, either.
It’s unfortunate timing, or perhaps Vincent is just unusually busy. Yves knows he does a lot of work behind the scenes, from the few times he’s asked him what he was working on and gotten an intimidating list of projects in response. When he passes Vincent’s desk in the early afternoon—more precisely, when he decides to take the long way to the break room—he finds Vincent speaking with Angelie, one of the new hires, their heads ducked together over the harsh glow of Angelie’s laptop screen. He watches as Vincent gestures to something on the screen and says something too quiet to make out from this distance, and Angelie nods, jotting something down onto a notepad she’s holding.
How formal, Yves thinks. It isn’t long ago that he was in her shoes, new and intimidated by the formality of the workplace, asking Vincent for help and tabling everything he thought might be of note.
He doesn’t think much of it—only that of course Vincent is busy; Angelie is right to think that Vincent has the kind of expertise that will really be useful to her, and the patience to walk her through it with a level of thoroughness Yves is frequently impressed by, or else she’s just gotten very lucky.
The afternoon passes quickly enough. All of a sudden, it’s 5, which is around the time when Yves usually leaves, and he still hasn’t spoken a word to Vincent all day.
Against better judgment, he takes his briefcase with him, heads toward the sector of the building that Vincent works in. Tells himself it’s just on the way to the back door exit. Tells himself a short exchange wouldn’t hurt—would it really be so wrong to invite Vincent out to dinner, or at the very least, to offer him the thank you he so unquestionably deserves?
He half expects Vincent to be gone already, considering that he’s probably been here since 7:30. But when he gets there, Vincent is at his desk, as usual, cross-checking several documents he’s printed out.
“Hard at work, as always,” Yves says, stopping just short of his cubicle.
“Yves,” Vincent says, though he doesn’t offer any further note of acknowledgment. He looks tired, Yves realizes, from the slight tension to his posture, the way he blinks hard behind his glasses, his eyebrows furrowing slightly. But of course he’s tired—he’s been here for almost ten hours already.
Yves waits for him to finish what he’s doing—to look away from the monitor screen, even just for a moment—but he doesn’t.
“Are you planning to stay much later?” Yves asks, at last, though he gets the feeling that he should leave.
“Most likely,” Vincent says. “Is there something you need me to look over?”
“No,” Yves says. “But I was wondering—”
“I’m very busy today,” Vincent cuts him off, paging through one of the documents that’s laid out over his desk. “So if it’s not work related, now’s not a good time.”
It’s then that Yves realizes—Vincent must think he’s about to drag him into another one of his fake-relationship arrangements.
“I don’t need anything from you,” Yves says, faltering. “I’m just—it’s getting late, and you’ve been here all day.”
“Yes,” Vincent says. “Like I said, I’m very busy.” He pauses to highlight a line of numbers, scribble something into the margins. How he can concentrate on his work and the conversation simultaneously, Yves doesn’t know. “If you have work for me, feel free to leave it on my desk, I’ll get to it tonight. Otherwise, I’d appreciate it if we had this conversation later.”
“Noted,” Yves says. He tables the dinner conversation for later, sets his briefcase down on the floor so that it leans up against the wall. “Let me help.”
Vincent frowns, his eyebrows furrowing. “It would take longer for me to explain this to you.”
“You don’t need to explain anything,” Yves says. “I can look over the documents myself.” He takes a step closer, peers down at the papers strewn across Vincent’s desk—earnings reports and expense reports, mostly, and a couple marketing proposals.
Vincent reaches up to pinch the bridge of his nose. “That would require you to know the context.”
“I’ve dealt with a hundred of these in my life. I promise you I know what I’m doing.”
“Then you’ll have to spend more time telling me your findings,” Vincent says. “Better to not split up the work at all.”
“It would still be faster than going through them yourself.”
“Hardly.”
Perhaps Vincent doesn’t trust Yves to get things done to the standard that he expects, then. Yves thinks he’s worked here long enough to consider himself decently qualified, but they haven’t worked together closely on anything since Yves’s first couple months at Evertech, and so he doesn’t fault Vincent for being wary.
Still, Yves thinks he can be useful here. And maybe there is something selfish to it, too—to wanting to be as useful to Vincent as Vincent had been to him, to wanting to prove that he is capable of helping in the first place, of offering something of value—but even aside from that, he’s worried that if he doesn’t step in, Vincent might be here all night. It doesn’t seem like much of an impossibility, considering who he’s talking to.
“You’ve been here for hours,” Yves tries. “It’s only our first day back.” He looks around—perhaps there’s someone else here that could help, someone who’s worked here longer than Yves, who Vincent trusts. “You don’t have to let me help. But at least hand some of it off to someone you actually trust, or tell Charlene that she’s given you too much work this week, or both.”
“It’s no more work than usual,” Vincent says, with a sigh.
“And yet, you’re planning on staying late.”
Vincent looks up at him, at last, his expression unreadable. “I’m capable of doing my own job, Yves.” His voice is curt, almost snappish. “I really don’t have time to argue with you right now.”
Yves wants to say, of course I know that. Vincent is nothing if not qualified—Yves has never doubted that for a moment. He wants to say, I want to help you regardless.
But that would only be presumptuous. He doesn’t know Vincent that well. Besides, it’s really none of his business—they’re coworkers, not friends. Vincent knows what’s best for himself. The best thing Yves can do right now is to stay out of his way.
“Okay,” Yves says, a little defeated. “Good luck on your work. Make sure you get some sleep.”
There’s no response to that—no acknowledgement that Vincent has heard him at all, even though it’s quiet enough in the room that he must have. Yves turns to get his briefcase. Out of the corner of his eye, he sees Vincent jerk forward suddenly, his shoulders tensing with a near-silent—
“HhH’Gkt-!”
Yves bites back a reflexive bless you. It’s just one sneeze. It doesn’t have to mean anything. But Vincent sniffles, pressing his knuckles up to the underside of his nose, to stifle another—
“HhH’NgkT-!”His breath hitches again, his eyebrows drawing together as he jerks forward again, with a quiet but painfully forceful, “Hh
 hEH’NGXt!”, crushed into his fist.
He sniffles again, reaching across the desk to snag a tissue from the tissue box that, Yves realizes with a jolt, is usually not present on his desk. He sighs quietly—the sort of tired, drawn out exhale that leaves no question about how tired he is—and reaches up with a hand to gingerly massage his temples. The slight grimace that follows is almost certainly indicative of a headache.
Yves considers asking Vincent how he’s feeling for all of two seconds before he remembers the almost-hostility with which he was just faced. Perhaps it would be better if he pretends to not have heard. Briefcase in hand, he quickens his pace, ducks out of the exit, and heads down the stairs.
Vincent spent his New Year’s Eve with him, at a party surrounded by strangers—even though Vincent dislikes parties and probably dislikes strangers—he’d put up an immaculate act, played along even through Yves’s slight intoxication, and driven him home—and in turn, Yves has repaid him by...
God. Yves shouldn’t have asked to kiss him. The guilt settles heavy in his stomach.
Yves really, really owes him.
He heads down several flights of stairs and ducks outside to the parking garage. It’s even colder today than it had been on New Year’s—perhaps indicative of a colder winter to come—and though the parking garage is sealed off, when he’d looked out from the office windows upstairs, it had been starting to snow.
The cafeteria at their workplace is closed for dinner, and it’s a half hour drive home from here through rush hour traffic—maybe a little longer in the snow, and longer still if he stops to get something to eat.
He’s in the process of unlocking the car, setting his briefcase at his feet, and inserting the keys into the ignition when the idea occurs to him.
It’s an irrational idea, probably.

Even though I've not cared about spoilering myself in the past, and have even seen some stuff already, I kinda wanna commit to not watching Shadow Generations cut-scenes until I inevitably get stuck. I got stuck pretty early Sonic Gens and Shadow stuff tends to be harder...plus I have Halloween/Cosplay stuff to work on...
But procrastination/the desire to multi task is also there...
