The Heart of Zaun by 1ts_Br1tney_B1tch 8/ chapters. WIP.

or: Silco try to rally the Firelights to his cause (in this case, Zaun - he's much more involved in doing better for his city than in the show) but of course they're bound to have some..tension between them, since they hate him - and Shimmer. (it has the good parent Silco tag so i'd say that all in all, this Silco is a little less...Silco than in Arcane, but manage to keep some of the bite he has in canon...) i only read 2 chapters, and what i can say is that it does a good job with the general cast, the interactions between Silco/Ekko-Firelights are believable, i think the one thing that could have weird me out is the way Silco is said to be 'proud' of the Firelights in the summary (for me 'pride' is something he'd reserve for Jinx yk?? anyway i stop the rambling) . The Timebomb relationship has more or less the same push and pull as in the show, with Ekko thinking about the girl Jinx used to be/ Ekko being a link to the past before Jinx and all that entail...so yeah, i'm loving it!

ABO/Reverse AU where Powder doesnt become Jinx and is raised by Viktor, Ekko is taken in by Silco. btw i dont read a lot of abo fic (im very nickpick) but this one does every characters justice, and actually dwelve in depth in the abo universe.. (everything by typewriter is good to be honest, but my favorite thing is how they write Powder, who even when she doesnt become Jinx, is still shaped by a very violent world/trauma and it shows through her mental health issues and very, very low self worth/need to prove herself. )

Timebomb centric rewrite of Arcane, Jinx is Powder, she doesnt fall under Silco's hand (or in his arms precisely), Ekko is Ekko, and 1, i need to hug Powder, 2 she deserves the world and 3 the characterization of everyone, everyone is so brillantly written and the timebomb relationship (damn even the CaitVi one too) oh, the timebomb of it all... they feel so, so real and it hurts, Powder's insecurities, her mental illness, her guilt, her need to prove herself but in same time she doesnt feel herself worth of anything (or anyone) good... just.read it. read it, because i just did, after like 2 years of not doing that and. im like mad bc why didnt i??? but in same time so grateful to just discover it now, taking my sweet little time reading it; it rewinded my brain its amazing, (like this work in another fandom, the first time i read this rebelcaptain's fic A Love song by skitzofreak - did i just linked it for you to read even tho its a timebomb rec post??? yes. yes i did. thats how much i love, adore, worship this one guys - so everything's better made me think a lot of this TB fic, and also of RC (the abandonment issues, thinking that you have to leave first before everyone leave you, Jyn and Powder damn).

you know how everyone make the comparaison between Ekko and Miles?? well, the author found a way for Ekko transform into a spiderman that feels right in the arcane verse (end of act1) and damn its so good. Ekko slowly morphing and gaining his powers while everyone still have some focus on them (mostly Powder), but it still manages to keep the suspense of the fate of other characters. fabulous. author note: [I have seen so many comparisons between Ekko and Miles and a lot of fanart. So it felt that I had to do this. I can't promise future chapters right now (busy), but I am eager to see if this inspires any stories with a similar premise.]

This would have been done like four or five days ago but I cannot for the life of me draw a fucking running pose holy shit. like the mean for time taken for each drawing would have been maybe 30 minutes, but no 6 was a BITCH and took me maybe five hours alone, but tbf, half of that was spent lamenting.

Btw these aren't, like, the full sketches, after 6 I started to draw the silhouettes of the poses first and then went over it in red. Also, references used for 1,3, and 9. Why didn't I use a reference for number 6 if it was so hard? I gave up. I still think it should have been pushed more but eh.

Posting will probably be slow until maybe October, because I just got into university, for an art course, which is pretty neat ngl. so yippee or whatever.

The sketches of Bart are my favourite and that upsets me. not because I don't like him but because the poses took me so long. He does, however, get the privelige of colour, mostly because he looked super empty without it. I tried giving the others their red as well, but it was too much and Tim looked like Dick, so....

I'm not really a fan of these in general, but I'm posting them anyway, because eventually I get to see progress. much happier with the style I used for the last 4 (sorry Kon), but they don't exactly look young, more like late-ish teenagers.

I'm pretty happy with the one character interaction that I forced myself to do, though, so that's nice, even if they're not really doing anything.

I think I messed up Cassie's outfit by accidentally combining two of them, so oops.

when it comes to most things, Hyuk best shows his affection through silly actions and jokes. “If you really loved me, you’d binge watch the entirety of maria with me ^_^". In return he'd probably play/watch/read that one piece of media you’re obsessed with.

If he goes out and sees anything related to the media you really like, he'd buy it and say something like "i thought of you". It would be an unconscious thing, before he'd realize he likes you. Obviously the buying of little trinkets catches the attention of his little sister. They aren't too well off & buying treats is usually reserved for special occasions.

I feel like when he realizes his feelings he'd be conflicted on wether to go for it or not. Esp eun, she really likes you and really wants hyuk to pull bitches. 💯💯💯

She'd probably not-so subtly try and interogate your opinion on him. To which he lowkey panics because he doesn't want things to get awkward.

I feel like in the very rare occasions where those thoughts do get to him, he'd become a bit more attention seeking. "Would you love me if i became a worm? :P" he'd ask you stupid silly questions because he doesn't wanna go "do you love me???" .

there really is no reason for you to hide your relationship with jing yuan, but you both prefer to keep it secret for privacy. you two agreed it's better to not have the public judge your relationship based only on what they see.

you don't have a difficult time with keeping the relationship a secret. jing yuan, however, can't always keep his hands to himself. when you're in public, he'll casually snake his arm around you waist, which you have to remind him to stop doing.

he'll sneak in a kiss on the cheek too if he's feeling sneaky, just to see your reaction to it.

it's hard not to laugh at the people who gush about jing yuan, talking about how they possibly had a chance with the general, if they were given the time.

yanqing would find it suspicious that jing yuan dismisses him every time you pay him a visit. he brushes it off though, thinking it's probably just two adults having a boring conversation.

whatever you decide, jing yuan is with you. though he wants the show the entire luofu his love for you, he'd also keep it between you two if you wish.

you understand his side, and you know why he wishes to keep your relationship a secret—even from the other stellaron hunters. it's hard to find time for each other, but neither of you give up on it. every moment you two get alone together, you make the most of it.

it's not difficult to hide your relationship with blade, but finding the time and making the excuses to be with him is. after all, continuously using the excuse "i'm going out with a friend." is getting kind of suspicious.

it's also difficult when other people flirt with you or try to set you up with someone because you've been "single for too long."

for blade's sake, you reject all their offers and say you aren't interested in getting into a relationship at the moment.

there was one time you coincidentally went to the same place as blade, and he saw someone trying to get your attention. you actually congratulated him for not driving that person away from you when he saw.

Seriously, giving him two of those (and making them be able to go over his shoulders) in TFA was a really great idea design-wise (+firepower), imo. One cannon, like here in IDW, looks quite silly in jet mode, LOL. Now, generally speaking, when it comes to most of the continuities... Meanwhile in robot mode, it just removes (most of?) the potential to use it as a weapon ._. Since it 'has got to be in the middle'. I don't feel like going through all the media to remind myself whether he used his cannon in robot mode rn xd

(Other continuities + the TFA design. Still looks amazing with one, of coursee, thoo. And not all of the designs would be any better with two of those in case nothing else was changed)

I REALLY hope to see a new version of Blitzwing in a TF show/series who has two back cannons instead of one...

(btw, his design, which I imagined for the universe that I had made up, also has two of those, sksksksk, even though it's more g1-inspired, da)

I also hope that we will get a show which has some Unicron Trilogy vibes when it comes to the transformers' weapons, sksksksk

Seeing a Seeker fire a thin blaster, which he has on his arm, and miss an Autobot all the time isn't always going to be fun, lol. I don't want too much of the "brave autobot scout bombolbi is faster than literal jets and he dodges each shot from their weapons" type of action, maan. Imagine if there were some more of heavier weapons and robo gore in animation, huehuehue (I don't mean the really heavy one). And yes I know that it's also a matter of the animation budget.

Treat this part as when someone is saying smth in post's tags, yes: Love how I got ssoommeehhooww a bit close to yapping about the Autobot plot armor again and yet I don't feel like writing that yapping session as for now. Also lol it looks a bit goofy, as I didn't know what other screenshot of TFA BW to use, in which he has his cannons down, aside from the one with Icy in ,,Velocity". I love Team Immortal a lot and I don't see Catarina as often as I'd like, but barely any people let Ragnor live or have him fake his death and I think that's a downright shame because I adore all of them coexisting and deadly because of it.

also to my understanding Ragnor something/sort/kind of helped raise Magnus after the silent brothers so like, trauma bonding right there. the bond between them it's a significant one but not paternal because of Asmodeus, more a mix of a uncle/brother. and between Magnus, Catarina and Ragnor there is no actual judgment no matter what. just a kind of like '... I both can and cannot believe you did this. its fine. i'll come to terms with reality later lets figure this out to our favor first.'

so there's none of that patriarchal judgement that sometimes occurs from an older generation. ragnor quite literally thrives on Magnus living his best most chaotic life because that's what makes Magnus happy. even if its doing dangerous things like dating a shadowhunter.

so in dressed to kill ragnor faked his death in this universe btw, he showed up as a wedding present from himself to them and popped up during their honeymoon.

magnus thought he was a mirage/heatstroke and Alec called Catarina because he wasn't going to risk accidentally killing Ragnor if it really was Ragnor (its not like he could tell and selfish or not he wasn't going to make Magnus do it and Cat like, they bonded over that shes very proud of him for calling her). Magnus is now giving Ragnor the silent treatment. which means that he's constantly visiting Ragnor, portals to his side the minute he calls or fire messages. He just also glares at him quietly and refuses to talk to him and makes Alec communicate for him and he doesn't even do the whole 'alec please tell ragnor' verbally.

no he uses a spell telepathically so ragnor's REALLY getting the silent treatment.

also Magnus helped ragnor fake his death, he just also had ragnor take the memory of it and while he has since gotten the memory, he's pretty pissed that Ragnor took so long to 'come back to life' and he's ever more upset when he finds out that it's because ragnor 'lost track of time' and then when he tried to reach out, none of his contacts were reachable and ragnor was hearing ridiculous things like 'magnus got married to a shadowhunter' and then well, he may have missed the wedding but wasn't this a lovely wedding present, Magnus?

magnus does not in fact think its a lovely wedding present but at the same time it's not like he wanted to go one more day thinking Ragnor was dead so it is a great wedding present. Alec is just mildly irritated that Magnus cried half of their honeymoon because he can be happy ragnor is still alive and Magnus has a part of his family back and still be upset that Ragnor is making his husband cry on their honeymoon. if that means holding magnus' hand and using the pettiest tone possible to voice every one of Magnus' responses, well it also earned him a couple kisses so he thinks he's doing well.

but yes, I really like writing their friendship because friendships are important especially when you're in a relationship. don't neglect your friends. you can be obsessed with your partner and still love your friends and friends can be family. hence why I really enjoy writing team immortal especially because they develop their own unique bonds and friendships separately with Alec. which help him experience the world differently still and learn more ways to love Magnus in turn. the same as the fics where Magnus is closer to Izzy/jace and Alec has better more mutual relationships with them

though its totally understandable if you cancel going out with your friends because the place isn't pet friendly, okay. that's just different. (I really have no idea what i'm saying rn but I know it's true, I'm Nightshade's ride or die)

You're incredibly correct about scout btw. There was a poll awhile ago called "which merc is the most trans" and YOU'LL NEVER GUESS WHO SCORED OVER 30% OF ALL VOTES.

Like cool fine it's just headcanons. But its so annoying to be scrolling through the trans tag on ao3 and almost all the tf2 ones are scout snivelling over whatever made up problem ails him in this particular universe. Gah.

YES THANK YOU. I have zero problem with trans headcanons but when it becomes fully accepted in fanon it makes it insanely hard to find any other interesting takes or opinions on the character other than "he's a trans boy!!"

And most of the time their reasoning for why they headcanon him as trans is "oh he has anxiety and he's the twinkiest of the group!!" And I hate to be that guy™ but why is the most commonly trans character, the youngest and the most conventionally attractive?

Like I mentioned earlier, having Scout largely accepted as trans really closes the door on any other interpretation of his character!! And the way people characterize him as trans is so boring!!

Im sorry if any of you are huge fans of the anxiety-ridden daddy-issues-having twinky little depresso baby boy version of his character, but I absolutely HATE IT!!

I see a lot of people acting like it's a deep and interesting look on his character but in my opinion it really isn't!

Sure, he does get urked when his dad is brought up, and sure he is pretty damn awkward sometimes. But I think his dumbass confidence is fully genuine most of the time!

He has anxiety because of his ego, he doesn't have an ego because of his anxiety.

People really just pull issues out of their ass for an excuse to make him a sad uwu boy. Even in a case where he IS going to lose, he's still the type to be a huge egotistical dick about it!! And I love that about him!!

Now I will say, I don't read much fanfiction myself, but I roleplay quite a bit and I do engage in a lot of general fanworks! And it really bothers me when people so blatantly favor Scout over other characters to the point that everyone else is nothing but a tool for something interesting to happen to their precious pookie bear.

If your going to see Scout as this serious, deep, multi-layered character, then the least you could do is give somewhat of the same treatment to other mercs! Especially spy considering how much of a plot device he can be to Scout!

But in SO MANY CASES. Spy is nothing but a evil mean stinky bad father who is fully 1-dimensional! It fucking sucks! In no way is Spy a good dad, or even a good person. But he really isn't such a heartless asshole as people make him out to be.

For this one, unlike Roman's, I wanted to put the text posts on the outside of the rest of the images because I think they distracted from the carefully-created aesthetic here, haha.

So, Sammy! Our boy Sammy is, surprise surprise, a healer! Except... he's also got a ton more magic besides that! And even more than just what I mentioned on that one post a couple days ago! Though that's mostly due to the quirks of how magic works in my universe and how his "magic source" has control over a lot of things, so he technically has "a lot of magic" despite only having two "sources". 👀

I've definitely said too much, but I'm curious to find out what you guys think his magic is/what he's capable of doing!

More on Sammy: he grew up on the streets and shows up after a disaster happens early into the story, leading to a lot of people getting injured! He offers to help and--despite his young age--he's brought along to assist in the relief efforts since healers are so few, far between, and generally weak! When it's revealed just how powerful his healing magic is, he gets an interview with Kieran Caron himself and Sammy's quickly offered a spot in Caron's elite knight school!

Surely he won't regret accepting that, right?

btw I know I’ve been repeatedly (& pointedly) reblogging void’s post abt ppl hating kab today so. um. here’s some actual take. I know i said i would listen to bacon and complain less but im gonna try to keep this constructive.

it’s not about any individual person who doesn’t like kab or her style of lore. an individual not liking a character or storytelling style is normal and fine and demanding that someone SHOULD like this character and swallow down their emotional reactions or dislike bc shes a WOMAN is also very uncomfortable to me tbh! kab is not in fact one of my favorite characters by any means. in an ideal world life steal would have more women and i’d post about them more but like … there aren’t in fact many women in life.steal & not every character is for everyone & no one is obligated to like a character solely bc she’s a woman, yk? it’s not misogynist to dislike or even complain about female characters (although if you Never like female characters and find a reason to dislike all of them you, uh, should maybe be considering that!)

what makes me uncomfortable is the Pattern. and the Pattern is that women get hit harder & more universally by fandom criticism and hate than men do, without the corresponding positivity and appreciation their male counterparts get. what makes me uncomfortable is when ppl are getting intense abt how much she sucks in the twitch chats of ppl who, ultimately, are her friends ooc. this is all uncomfortable bc it is familiar, i have seen this pattern play out across different fandoms and different characters. it’s not just “this specific person doesn’t like this specific character”. it’s “fandom in general disproportionately dislikes female characters & has a tendency to harass the irl women playing those characters”. esp in spaces as sexist and male-dominated as mc.yt, that makes people justifiably sensitive.

I don’t really have a solution to this; like i said, I’m not interested in forcing people who don’t like a character to like her. (Especially since that doesn’t actually, you know, work.) But… I dunno, be a little nicer, especially places CCs can see (twitch chats especially; also twitter; to a lesser extent tumblr, esp if you’re maintagging or know they follow you)? Tag your neg/crit on tumblr so that ppl who don’t want to see it can just filter it out? (Honestly, this would go a long way for me—part of why I’m so bothered is just how inescapable the negativity is rn!) Think of how you’d feel if people regularly responded this way to lore you really like of your male fave, think about how you’d want them to handle their dislike or frustration, and then just … try to be considerate and fair.

Hey, quick question if you don't mind me asking, what were your thoughts on Chalice of the Gods?

overall, i wish rick stopped at toa like he said he was going to. the more rick adds, the more the world-building suffers as a result. that being said, i didn't completely hate cotg like i thought i would. there's a few good moments, but, in general, it reads like a cash-grab.

let's start with the good. percy has some of the most in-character moments he's had in the universe since pjo.

percy's confrontation w geras was so good that i actually wish this was part of percy's character arc in hoo. percy spent almost all of pjo knowing he was going to die—he saw the fates cut the string in tlt and in som he put together what the prophecy meant: he was going to die either at or before 16. and this is exactly why this confrontation works and why i think it's better than new rome. new rome can protect a demigod from monsters, not from fate. percy wasn't scared of monsters. if he was, he would've stayed at chb year-round.

and i really like that geras was willing to entertain percy bc he had turned down godhood. like the first time percy ever thinks abt immortality seriously (in botl) this is what he has to say:

so immortality is fundamentally at odds w percy's character bc he defines himself so thoroughly w the ppl he loves. and this is exactly what allows him to get through to geras! it's such a good exploration of percy's character and the future he's now able to consider.

similarly, this section

is more in-character than almost all of hoo. this is a prime example of how percy's loyalty works and addresses how it's misconstrued in fandom. percy has a desire for freedom, and that desire informs how he respects ppl. percy's loyalty isn't a possessive "i won't let you do this" bc he will, he will always let someone make their own choice at the end of the day bc it's what he would want. and this was actually established in tlt, when sally says "you're enough like me to understand" and asks percy to let her save herself. so percy lets bianca fight talus, he lets nico walk away, he gives luke the knife, he lets ganymede choose his own story, even when he disagrees w it. and this is why percy's arc in hoo sucked! rick tried to give percy the typical hero complex, but it's contradictory w percy's character. so when i saw this passage i was so relieved. i thought this part of percy died w pjo.

also, to talk abt someone other than percy, this moment

is good. i love this abt annabeth.

and grover saying the hardest thing is sitting by and not being able to do anything. bc grover is usually in a support role and he wasn't there at all in hoo. i also like that percy is confronted w the fact that he's not expendable. thumbs up from me.

the bad...i'm just going to keep short bullet points.

it doesn't work as part of pjo and yet it's marketed as the sixth book in the series

why is zeus a disney villain. i hate everything abt it

the inconsistencies...annabeth's cap...why are we continuing to treat percy like he's disinterested in learning??? also. what do you mean you're not allowed at camp after you turn 18? WHAT DO YOU MEAN????? this was not a thing. and wasn't rhea in hiding or something?? now she's casually having brunch?

there's too much "percy is the stupid bf and annabeth is the competent gf who takes care of him." i hated every second of this. also annabeth is disabled. her being intelligent does not remove her disability. she struggles.

i rbed that post abt disaster cook annabeth and good cook percy and i stand by that.

the power monologue makes no damn sense (and another addition by op in the tags)

no seriously i'm begging someone to have a real conversation and understand percy is terrified of how powerful he is. i've been waiting for this since botl. WHICH WAS PUBLISHED IN 2008 BTW

i'm not a huge estelle or paul fan. like they're fine they're just not compelling.

the only time i feel sally and percy have the same connection as they had in tlt is when they're alone. this is a problem i've had for a while, but cotg does not fix it. when paul and annabeth are in the equation, it feels like percy is the outsider.

in summary, cotg is like a fanfic i would leave kudos for being a good percy character study despite having questionable moments. except it's canon. and these questionable things affect the world-building.
