Something that really gets me about Nemona is that despite having the social awareness of a brick wall, there are a few cases where you can see her have a complete demeanor flip if you respond negatively to her questions and I am SO interested in those. Her eyebrows furrow, she brings her hand closer to her face like she's visibly curling up, and she looks genuinely concerned-- whether ur saying you want to rain check a battle or you don't want to be her friend. It's such an extreme reaction to ultimately trivial things, but in combination with her railroading you / being her overzealous self and the way she panics about coming off too strong, it just gives me pause

I'm probably overthinking this, but those strong reactions remind of kids who were told they're Too Much by the adults in their lives and then get stuck in a push-pull of doing what comes naturally to them but also trying to be cognizant of when they're being Too Much as they struggle to grapple with social cues. Nemona only ever seeming to realize when she's crossed a line after someone tells her that explicitly or responds badly to her just gives me such confused neurodivergent teenager vibes, it is driving me insane. She acknowledges her emotional distance from other students and worries out loud to the player about Coming Off Too Strong in their first meeting, but doesn't seem to connect those ideas with any specific behavior she's doing, and the entire thing is just setting "autistic high school sophomore" alarms off in my brain

It really feels to me like a case of someone who has internalized the understanding that they're too overwhelming for others after having been told it countless times, but doesn't understand WHY; just stuck in this loop of getting negative reactions and desperately trying to work backwards from there to figure out what about them and their behavior is scaring people off. She immediately goes from this boundless confidence to insecurity (shown via pose or dialogue) the literal second she's faced with a "no" and it really makes me think it's because she's terrified of losing you as a friend and sees ur negative reactions as a precursor to that. In the absence of an actual understanding of how her own actions drive people away she's stuck relying on your reactions, and something like a simple "no" reads as a red flag that she may have crossed some invisible line that everyone else but her seems to see. (slaps her forehead) u can fit so much autism in here

She's worked out her mommy issues to an extent, but still feels a need to make up for Sada's mistakes. Also think she might be engaged/married to Nemona, but I'll figure it out.

PALDEA KIDS

Nemona - 16, since our NaranjUva homeroom has classmates in it that look younger than us and Nemona looks older, I'm putting her at 16 and she became Champion ranked at 14. I'm gonna assume that Blueberry Academy has a much more age-based class system than NaranjUva which has geriatric and adult aged students, which plays it looser but still groups people by age, just in wider pools.

Penny - 17, vibes. not an adult and abuses the minor card while she still can but is almost there. Was 15 during the Operation Star fiasco, I also think that she should be in the class above but flunked on purpose, so she'd be in the same classes as her Team Star buddies when they come back

Arven - 18. Adult but barely. Tries to pull seniority but is still painfully a teenage boy that had to raise himself so he's a mixed bag between mature and immature for his age (also why he hangs with a younger group)

Player - freshly 15, like fresh-fresh. first it gives the gang a natural progression in age, and second it places them right next to Kieran in age. For Cereza (my oc) specifically I see her as older than Kieran but not by much. Also I think the story takes place over 1 1/2 to 2 years, which puts Nemona at 17, Penny at 18, Arven at 19, and Cereza at freshly 17, In My Opinion, also the ages aren't predicted evenly bc it's based on where I think their birthdays are (which I haven't done the math on, sue me). Those ages would also specifically be their ages when Cereza goes to Blueberry, the Teal Mask spans like a little over a month in my head, the main story takes around a year-ish plus postgame which adds a couple months

Amarys - 17, younger than Carmine but older than Kieran. Also, the type to skip a grade so I need wiggle room on that.

Drayton - 18 but getting close to 19. Old ass /aff. He flunked out multiple years and he has that older brother feel to the rest. Also strikes me as closest in age to Carmine and Arven

Real good! After all, I fiiiinally got Penny to agree to a battle with me! I can't stop thinking of what to use against her Sylveon! What if it has Pixilate? Should I bring Orthworm then? Or what if she uses a Wish-pass Vaporeon? Do I need to bring a stall breaker? Or, or-- Ahem. I see your passion for battle is as strong as always. It's certainly been an inspiration to all of us--thanks to you, the Academy Ace Tournament is a regular occurrence now! Aw, thanks Director. You know I'm always down for a tournament! Anyways, don't you have some fancy questions to throw at me? ...It's Clive. But yes. First up: What does Pride mean to you? Ooh, that's a good one. For me, you know... romance was never something on my brain, right? All those jokes about "Oh, you know, girls only think about one thing" you always hear around... most of the time my first thought to that would be, "Duh! Pokemon battles!" I mean, it's not like I really got what everyone was so hyped about anyways... like, sure, there are people who are pretty, or cool, but to want to like... kiss them because of that? It's so weird! So I guess to me Pride is like... accepting that I can be different from others? And find them as weird as they find me! So then... I guess you could say your true amor is battling? Wellllll, ah... I don't really know! You know what they say about rivalries, after all... It's like the more I get to know them, the more my heart squeezes a little every time I talk to them! But whatever mi tesoro is, there's gotta be battling involved! *gasp* What if I conveyed those feelings... through a battle?! This is genius! I have a really hard time with comics that aren't silly so I wrote this instead. SV quartet is both very fun to write and also a nightmare because none of them have an ounce of tact as a side effect of being 16. Anyways THANK U!!

Violeta hadn’t realized Nemona was trailing off until the sudden silence snapped her back to attention. The others seemed to have noticed it too, because Arven had stopped mid-bread-buttering and Penny was doing a terrible job at pretending she wasn’t stealing glances at Nemona, her phone game abandoned. Nemona was already doing that thing that Violeta had come to expect from her, head slightly bowed and holding her braced arm to her chest like she was curling in on herself. She was the one to finally break the silence, and not to resume her rambling on the history of Johtoian boom teams. 

“Do you guys think I’m, like, annoying?” Nemona asked. She seemed genuinely bothered by this out of the blue revelation, fidgeting with her tie and furrowing her brows as she flicked her gaze to each of her friends in turn. Violeta was not proud of the way she paused. Arven frowned, his gaze laser focused on the sandwich in front of him. Penny made a little noise in the back of her throat, expression pinched as she struggled to find the right words. 

“Oh,” Nemona replied, the earlier enthusiasm gone from her voice like a deflated balloon. She shook her head and continued with a practiced monotony that sounded like she was reading off a script. “I’m uh… that was really inconsiderate of me. I’ll try to keep your interests in mind more when I talk. It’s rude to dominate conversations, and I… uh… sorry.” 

“Hey, uh,” Penny interrupted her, concern written all over her face. “You’re not annoying, just… a lot sometimes?” She grimaced as though finding the right words was physically painful. 

“Yeah!” Arven added. “I like hearing you talk about stuff. I don’t like, get it– I’m not smart like you– but it’s uh. Nice?”

“You’re not annoying,” Violeta finally said. “It’s just… you talk a lot about stuff most people don’t care about.”

Nemona looked completely crestfallen. “Yeah,” she said, back to fidgeting with her tie. “I um. I realized you all looked really bored and I didn’t really know when you started looking bored and I realized I was probably annoying you all but you were too afraid to say anything, my mom always says I’m kinda intimidating when I'm like this and that’s why no one wants to be my friend. And, uh, the doctor tells me that people don’t like it when someone talks too much because they look selfish and I’m not like that, I care about your interests too but it’s re–”

“Hey,” Arven cut her off, looking wildly uncomfortable. “That’s not, I don’t think… That’s not true.”

“Which part?” Nemona asked. Arven waved the butter knife around like he could pluck the words out of the air. 

“All that weird stuff you were talking about, the whole uh, no one wanting to be your friend thing. We’re your friends.” Penny nodded along. “I actually like it when you talk a lot, it means I don’t have to. It’s cool when you talk about stuff and I can just be on my phone or whatever. It makes things not awkward.”

“I’m not bored,” Violeta added. “And I don’t think Penny is either, her face just looks like that.”

Penny shot a look Violeta’s way, huffing. 

“Yeah!” Arven reaffirmed. “It’s nice when you talk about stuff you like while I’m making sandwiches, it’s kinda calming in a way.”

“I just like hearing my friend talk about something she likes,” Violeta said.

Nemona’s expression started to brighten. “Really? You’re not mad?”

Arven waved a hand. “Ramble away.”

“Sometimes you just gotta infodump,” Penny reaffirmed, getting a quizzical look from Violeta and Arven. Nemona sat back, smile back on her face as she bounced her leg and stared up at the sky. Nemona’s excited rambling came back as quickly as it had gone, gaining confidence with each word. 

“Ok, where was I…”

To start off with, I adore your Reckless fanfic about Rika X Juniper; my favorite scene was when Rika rode on her Mudsdale along with Juniper. I wanted to ask a question; do you consider / would Nemona be a horse girl / equestrian? I actually headcanon if Juliana took Nemona with her to the Crown Tunda for a vacation, Nemona ends up catching Spectrier and tames the Swift Horse to be her steed. Nemona can ride Spectrier alongside Juliana and her Raidon. If you consider Nemona to be an equestrian / horse girl, I would love to read any headcanons about that if you are willing to share. First of all, thank you anon, you don't know how happy that makes me to hear-- seriously I am practically giddy somebody read and enjoyed that fanfic.

This is a very fun question. I've never considered it before, but now that I think about it I do agree Nemona could totally be a horse girl. I headcanon that Nemona and her sister used to be very close as kids, and her sister was always there for her even when her busy parents often weren't; but as they grew older they grew a lot more distant (esp. as her sister was vetted to be the next in line for the family biz). In my mind, Nemona's parents very likely showered their young kids with gifts to try to make up for the fact they often were not around, and buying your daughter a pony is such a cliche rich dad thing to do, so haha, I can just imagine Nemona's dad getting her a Galarian Ponyta (Galarian bc it's very sparkly and "girly" so that's what parents assume their daughters want).

The thought of Nemona & Juliana visiting Galar and taming Spectrier though!! That would be fantastic. I haven't even played the Crown Tundra DLC but DANG those 2 horse designs are awesome. I have this headcanon that Juliana and Nemona re-visit Ground Zero and capture the second Koraidon, so that Nemona has one to ride as well (maybe Jules even gifts it to Nemona), which would be especially great for Nemona so she doesn't have to deal with the Academy's steps or whatnot when she's fatigued. (I also decided the 'aggressive' Koraidon was female and the 'passive' one is male and they end up becoming friends in the end, maybe even mate and have baby Koraidon for Nemona and Juliana to raise, lol) But Nemona taming Spectrier instead is such a cool idea too, their steeds being different gives a really fun balance, plus the colors of red Koraidon/purple Spectrier matching Scarlet/Violet oooo . . . . I love that.

Spectrier is apparently a very wild, angry horse, but if anyone could soothe its rage surely it's the pure wholesomeness of Nemona~
