Do you have any headcanons for the Bellringer?

Lots! I have a list of old headcanons for him, but I’ll write out a new one since it’s worth updating them.

Physical Structure

1. The yoke of the Bellringer is made out of wood - an unnatural and a magical kind produced from his hometown that he keeps secret. The wood itself is malleable and flexible, and it branches around his entire body - being his central nervous system more or less - and being covered by his brass platings. The wood is sensitive, so he often protects his yoke when in combat.

2. He can detach his head and still control his body which leads/has led to funny scenarios. He will punch you though if you try to attempt removing his head - he doesn’t like it. He can also control the movement of his bell (so a person can’t just spin it around out of the blue) using his yoke.

3. Healing Bell is the ability to focus one’s magical capacity (remember that the wood itself is magical, so that’s where that comes from) into one’s chassis and funnel that all through a bell and then release that magic with a chime me to heal cogs. He has to know the structures of the cogs he’s healing (even if just vague) or have the emotional will (moral or immoral) to heal someone - for example, if a close friend of his got hurt, even without knowing their structure, the stress and sorrow would be enough to substitute it. Healing Bell is not the only ability he can do, and there are many more such as Overcharging. (Yes, this means there are rules to the magic, as well.)

4. His combat style in boxing is being more agile rather than relying on the damage of his punch. He exhausts his opponents by constantly healing himself using his healing bell, before eventually knocking out his opponent and winning the round. This has led him to develop a higher pain tolerance which is why he can sustain explosions on the daily. Alongside his fitness, his 12 years in the resort carrying tons of luggage on the daily has most likely heightened his endurance.

5. HE DOES NOT EAT USING HIS CLACKER (though that is a very funny interpretation). He eats and drinks via the grey area of his neck where his yoke is attached to. There’s an aperture that opens up there, allowing him to throw and ingest said food or drink. He can only eat little by little or else he could clog up his digestive tract since it is quite narrow.

Personality - "Eyes and ears open at all times; I've probably heard it all."

1. I don’t think he is physically/literally tone-deaf (as referred by Jennifer’s interview notes of him). That’s meant more metaphorically that he is deaf in reading the room and continues blabbering on about his gossips or talking shit about other managers. This also leads me to think that he would have a nice friendship/rivalry with Graham as they don’t have regards to anyone other than themselves and Suits they care about, and they both also crave/love attention. They sing together in Dave’s shows sometimes, and other times they make a competition out of how many followers they can get on their social media account.

2. He is friendly, extremely charismatic, and a great conversationalist… on the surface. He certainly has a “mask” that he puts on all the time to maintain his image in order to trick Suits for his selfish motives or maintain surface-level relationships - personal or business. Underneath, he is a sly and manipulative suit that people-pleases and sweet talks his way into things he needs and wants. When he's in trouble, he does his best to comply if its for the betterment of his self-interests but that's not to say he can't be silly and not give a fuck at all (wrt to official comic with Plutocrat). Lying is a constant in his entire life which is why he makes such a great Sellbot. This also means he has severe trust issues. His nosiness ties into that aspect, but for the most part, he just loves hearing other people’s businesses because it gives him a sense of control over them.

3. Underneath the “mask”, he’s scarily perceptive that he knows things about other people that they might not. It’s possible he has stalked Suits before talking to them in order to find their sweet side, and/or his experiences in espionage has led him to deduce things easily and subsequently take advantage of people’s attributes. His chattiness can be an intended tactic to make conversations go side-tracked and steer it to how he wants it, and his conversation with the secretaries is to gather information on other employees. Despite this, he still upholds his strong value of being authentic to himself despite the ironic immoral actions he is committing. Why? Sure, he finds the life of lying second nature to him, but there is also a naivety within him that yearns for true connections and truthfulness to himself, and he is desperately trying to keep that part from drowning amidst the cruelty of Suitopia’s society.

4. Since Bellringer uses he/they pronouns, I always saw him expanding his gender and sexuality beyond his masculinity. He’d definitely love to go to drag shows, wear dresses, and get his nails done. Whether he’s potentially a trans-woman/trans-man/non-binary is an interesting aspect and that will depend on the reader’s interpretation. I personally think he is comfortable representing both as a man and a woman, which is the absolute gender I strive for. <3 I also believe he speaks out against toxic masculinity and, if given the opportunity, also supports feminism because it’s in his personality to be as authentic & comfortable as he wants to be, and anybody that opposes that will get a rightful talking to.

Backstory

Let’s start with what we know.

1. He was a bellboy for 12 years in Golden Rose Resort and we know that he did some of his own “business” while working there since Jennifer notes he has a lot of knowledge about Suits and C.O.G.S. Inc’s rival companies. It would not be too surprising if the reason why he chose to apply for C.O.G.S. Inc. is because he deduced that this would be the dominating company in the following years compared to rival companies. It’s no doubt he utilises his chattiness to make shady deals with high-end clients during his time as a bellboy, gain information about powerful people and the companies they work for, and blackmails some Suits for his own means or someone else’s.

On a lighter note, I think he picked up the ventriloquist hobby (wrt to ventriloquist Bellringer comic) during this time likely to entertain guests in the hotel either as part of the job or a means of getting extra money or tips for his service, or — having been doing espionage at this time — he could have learned it for a specific mission and simply happened to like it then picked it up even after being employed at C.O.G.S. Inc. Funny how he uses puppets that would be a clear metaphor to his control over other Suits, right? Nah, I’m simply looking too deep into this and he just does it to troll people, haha.

What about before that?

2. Espionage demands a lot of exercise, and that didn’t just come from nowhere. In his earlier years, I would imagine he had joined some underground boxing ring for money. Why didn’t he just do minimum wage jobs to survive? Firstly, he’s not going to spend his next 12 years in a fucking McCognalds. Secondly, he has his own personal issues in his past that he eventually found boxing as a healthy outlet for his emotions. Thirdly, he finds the thrill of a challenge exciting, especially one that brings him at death’s door. If you can heal your wounds with a ring, you’re bound to develop a twisted false mentality that you can survive anything, and soon enough that could become an addiction that is drunk in pride. Winning the boxing matches gives him the attention he wants, and it gives him the addicting thrill he desires. After being hired at the resort, he needed to feed that addiction of thrill, and so he would lead a life of espionage and continue his immoral ways.

It would also explain why he shirks doing his actual duties in C.O.G.S. Inc. and instead gets distracted because he doesn't really want to do the boring parts. He just wants the fun of being in other people’s business and the thrill of combat in the streets (he incredibly despises Toons. All the more reason to explode them!) Because of that, I don't blame him if he looks tired all the time if what his position demands is torture to him, lol.

3. With the amount of charisma he has, he most definitely had sexual and romantic relationships. Most of them were just fleeting, and some of the rarer healthier ones would almost convince him to quit his adventurous addiction, however those types of relationships - where he exposes his vulnerabilities - hurt the most, especially when they end because of his own faults. Benjamin has grown an infatuation for Brian in his current position, but he has no intention to confess due to his lingering fear of trust issues, putting someone he cares about in danger because of the consequences of his immoral actions, and the self-deprecating belief that he cannot fix himself to love someone else, not after all the lies, deceit, and misdeeds he has done.

4. Of course, there’s still the question of what the origins of his hometown are, especially with that deal with the magical properties of his chassis, his aforementioned personal issues in his past, and most importantly… what about his family? He surely has a family somewhere in United Cogdom, right? I’m telling you that, yes, he does have a family and, yes, his mysterious origins are something I know and I am sure you’re keen to know about. After all, a Suit like him is extraordinarily bizarre - from his personality down to the nature of his powers. He’s bound to pick those habits from somewhere, right? Unfortunately, well…

I’ve been thinking so much about Biggs (OG Earth) and idk he’s just become my special little guy. Thoughts under the cut :3

- So there’s a super rare phenomenon that can happen where ghouls are born of their element on earth rather being summoned. It happens at the Ministry because of the high concentration of Infernal magick. This how Biggs came to be. This is also why Biggs looks a bit different compared to other earth ghouls. He is LITERALLY made of earth.

- The ground popped him out some time in Primo’s time as Cardinal. It was actually Primo who found the little kit. He was taking a walk in the forest when the ground rumbled followed by the little cries of a ghoul kit. Biggs is very attached to Primo and was overjoyed to become his earth ghoul when the Clergy decided to revive the Ghost Project.

- When Primo retired Biggs wanted to go with him, but he was asked to stay until they found a suitable replacement. That replacement being Pebble eventually.

- Biggs is mute. He doesn’t speak and communicates via sign language. Sometimes he’ll communicate with basic ghoul vocalizations (purrs, chirps, trills, growls, etc.) but never with words. He was taught English and Italian of course, he just prefers not to speak.

- He got his name because he looks a big slab of biggs jasper. He also eats rocks.

- He is so very shy when it comes to compliments and praise its not even funny. he loves to be a helpful little ghoul and when one of the Siblings thanks him and comments on how sweet or helpful he is he gets all blushy and his ears flick like a happy cow.

- Sometimes he feels like he doesn't entirely belong in the ghoul den because he's the only earth born ghoul. He's never experienced life in the Pits and it sometimes makes him feel like he's disconnected with other ghouls. Because of this he feels more like a human than a ghoul some days.

- Because Biggs was born of the earth of the Ministry, if anything ever happened to the land Biggs would die. Though because of this he’s essentially immortal. If other ghouls got horribly injured they’d bail from the physical world to go back to the Pits to heal. Since Biggs is born of the earth as long as he’s on Ministry land he can’t really get hurt more than like a small cut. When he’s off Ministry land he gets hurt like normal and would sort of respawn at the Ministry if any severe happened to him. But if the land were to get destroyed then Biggs would follow.

Randomly, I had a thought on how likely it would have been for different characters to have fallen for Cloud and why they would have fallen for him and now I’m here! Once more! So going in no particular order let us begin (this is just the main sort of batch of characters, let me know if you wanna see any of the side ones like the Turks or Rufus)

Also keep in mind this is just me, my opinions and my blog. Don’t like, don’t read, don’t bring your ship hating or ship wars in here or I’ll punch you. Please and thank you!

Zack: I am being mildly biased with my own shipping head canons when I say that he would’ve fallen head over heels upon first meeting, but also it is canon that he was a chronic flirt and had multiple ‘girlfriends’. So I say it’s not entirely out of the question.

Sephiroth: before he lost his mind there wasn’t a chance in fucking hell it would’ve happened I think. Besides the whole difference in rank thing Seph was already far too traumatised and probably would have just seen Cloud as another guy that saw him as nothing but a war hero. He might have entertained the thought of sleeping with him, maybe, but I really don’t think it would’ve happened. We all know how he is after he loses his mind so I don’t think I gotta delve into that.

Angeal: probably not. He definitely would’ve taken some sort of liking to Cloud, whether as a friend he could find good conversation with or a sort of protege like Zack, I dunno. But ultimately I don’t reckon they’d have too much of a connection, not without some form of poly going on or something. Which leads me to this next one.

Genesis: I for sure reckon he would’ve fallen for Cloud. It would’ve been fucking messy and drama filled and more than likely would have stemmed from an enemies to lovers cause they’re both so incredibly stubborn and head strong, but they would end up loving each other. They’d definitely still butt heads and get into useless arguments but there were far too many pros to even think of giving up on the other.

Aerith: without the whole Cloud resembling Zack thing, maybe. There’s a chance that she could have but it would have been slow. Would’ve been one of those things where they hung out and talked and did all this stuff together so often that one day she would’ve turned around and realised she was in love with him. Like a full on ‘oh’ moment.

Tifa: this is another thing that’s mildly biased based off my own head canons but I honestly don’t think Tifa would have fallen for Cloud. If not for the Nibelheim incident and Cloud being exactly what she always wished for as a kid I do not think it would’ve happened.

Barret: definitely fucking not 😂 besides the fact that he hated Cloud when they first met, Cloud is so far beyond his type it’s not even funny. Plus I feel like Barret would either be one of those guys who’s like ‘my wife was the only woman for me’ or he just wouldn’t wanna put Marlene through the stress of suddenly gaining another parent.

Biggs: maybe. Like a heavy ass possibly honestly. I feel like it would have been the most generic romance in history and it would’ve been so unbelievably normal and it most likely would have been short lived, but maybe.

Wedge: I’m not gonna lie. Wedge gives me aromantic vibes for some reason. I dunno why, he just does. He’d definitely befriend Cloud (eventually) and be willing to wingman him or something if he needed it but yeah, I don’t think Wedge would’ve fallen for him.

Jessie: she absolutely loves flirting with Cloud and teasing him and being all over him, but she is definitely a lesbian. Don’t even argue with me! That woman is a full fledged lesbian and she only flirts with guys so heavily cause it’s funny to watch them scramble.

Vincent: nah, not really. Would they have a friends with benefits thing? Probably. But I feel like Vincent is far too emotionally unavailable and traumatised to even entertain the idea of being with someone again.

Cid: I feel like this is similar to Angeal. He’d definitely like Cloud and they’d bond over mechanic shit and complain about the people they chose to surround themselves with, but he definitely wouldn’t fall for him either. Cloud is way too young for him and not nearly his type in a guy. Plus he has a wife.

@justatesfan I'm So Sorry this took me a million years to post 💀 Here are some Zeds for you! (Mostly Zorran because he's my favourite oops)

Zebedee has an inherent soft spot for switchers, and cares about the well-being of Zip and Zug much more than the rest of the fleet and his captain. Tries to keep it hidden most of the time, to avoid mockery

if Zak isn't gloating about something, he's complaining. No in between

Zip and Zug bicker constantly. They always end up having arbitrary arguments over the smallest things, and it gets on everyone's nerves.

When he was a younger tug, Zorran used to whistle through his gap constantly. Doesn't really anymore, but one will slip out if he's angry or nervous enough. (one time he accidentally did it in front of Sunshine, and was so humiliated, even though Sunshine doesn't care)

Zorran really enjoys music. Some nights, he'll sneak away from the zero dock and go hang around the bridge café to listen to the Jazz bands play. Often chats with Grampus on these nights.

Yes, Captain Zero is a bootlegger. Zorran is often the one who gets assigned the job to transfer the alcohol, these jobs happen late at night and as a result poor Zorran doesn't get a full nights rest often. (that's why he's so cranky all the time)

Zebedee is the only zed who's patient with Zip and will actually answer his questions. (just as long as the others aren't around)

Zip is still new to the Zero Fleet, having only been bought a few months before the events of Sunshine. As he gets more comfortable with the other Zeds, he's going to start talking back more, just you see.

Zak sleeps like the dead, and snores loud enough to wake it.

Zorran absolutely HATES getting dirty, he's not a germophobe, he just has sensory issues and hates the feeling. Always tries his best to get out of any dirty work (often by just making Zip or Zug do it for him). He's almost as bad at Top Hat in that regard.

Zorran also became a bit of a hypochondriac after the events of Quarantine, even though he didn't even get infected.

Zorran is Captain Zero's favourite tug out of the fleet. And Zero doesn't even make an effort to hide it.

Zorran has and will threaten dock workers, mainly clients of Zero, Zak does it too, but way more often and to basically everyone.

Zug's old Captain was Hungarian and that's why he has an accent.

So I was drawing something for my fandom blog and I realized that Bellringer almost perfectly fit the NPD flag, so we decided to do a flag color picked from him!!

I present to you my Earth ghoul design + some headcanons I’m telling you I think about him SO much he’s become my special little guy

So first off the name I’ve been using for him is Biggs because he’s Big Earth. To go with that I based his design off a slab of biggs jasper

Here is his actual design :3

-The reason he doesn’t look like other earth ghouls is because he was not summoned but rather formed. There is this super rare phenomenon that can happen where ghouls are born from a combination of infernal magick and an element smacking together. It’s such a rare phenomenon that it had been lost to Ministry history until Biggs came around and Cardinal Primo was tasked with figuring out why the earth spat out a ghoul kit.

-Biggs is the only ghoul at the Ministry who was created via natural element. Of course there are other earth born kits, take Delta’s daughters for example, but they were all born of actual ghoulish parents. Because of this Biggs doesn’t always feel like he belongs in the ghoul den, sometimes he feels more like a human than a ghoul. Of course nobody treats him any differently, it’s just that when the others talk about their time in the Pits or the day they were lucky enough to sneak a glance at one of the Lords he feels no connection. It makes him sad he doesn’t have that connection with his ghoulish heritage like the others.

-Biggs is mute and communicates via sign language. On occasion he’ll make a little ghoul noise (purr, chirp, trill, growl, etc.). He can also read and write in Italian and English. He’s in the process of learning traditional Infernal from Alpha to feel more connected to his roots.

- He is a woodcutter! He makes sure the stockpile of firewood is always full and makes deliveries to whoever needs it. The kitchen is his favorite place because they always give him a sweet little treat as a thank you.

- He does eat rocks. Nobody really knows if that’s actually like…good for him or not but they assume since he’s literally made of Ministry earth that it’s fine. Maybe it helps keep him healthy?

Benjamin Biggs (Bellringer) Relationship Headcanons:

Benjamin will absolutely lay on the charm when he's courting you. Have something you're self-conscious about? He'll compliment the heck out of it. He gives great gifts, too! Why, yes, those are your favorite flowers and chocolates! How did he know?

(It's actually not anything nefarious. He's just really observant and picks up a lot of gossip.)

He's an absolute gentleman once you start dating, too. He holds doors for you, offers to pay for your dates (and respects it if you want to pay your share), and listens intently to whatever you have to tell him.

When he does start talking, though, he can go on for a while. It's hard to get a word in edgewise unless you're really persistent. At least he's apologetic when he's called out on it! And he has a lot of interesting things to talk about. Who would have thought that Mr. Oilcan had a—whoops, you probably shouldn't let him catch wind of that.

It's really easy to let some gossip of your own slip when you're around him, even if you don't mean to. You probably shouldn't have mentioned how two of your coworkers have been dancing around each other's feelings, but it should be fine!

Coincidentally, those two coworkers start dating the next day. Funny how that works out, huh?

If he finds out someone is giving you a hard time, that's when he starts actually spying. If it's a minor thing, he'll just find something to badmouth that person about. If it's more serious, he will blackmail the heck out of them to leave you alone. He's not afraid to ruin someone's career or even life to protect you. (He won't go that far for something trivial, though. Professionals have standards.)

Your own personal information, though? Completely safe with him. If someone tries to spread rumors about you, he'll skillfully redirect them. Did you hear about what happened between Ms. Grayelle and Mr. Virgil?

The only gossip he'll spread and let be spread about you is how wonderful you are and how lucky he is to have you. He'll also drop hints about what you enjoy and, if applicable, your excellent work performance. The latter is bound to get to your superiors, after all~ 

Plus, he just really likes talking about you! His friends and coworkers either end up loving you before they've even met you or are kind of annoyed with how often you're brought up but grateful that he's spending less time spreading rumors about them.

Tugs Hair

(This was directly inspired by @jayde-jots sorry for the tag eek third chapter of their fanfiction Zeds to Stars. I just loved that little bit about Hercules' hair so much, and I've been thinking about boat hair ever since. ANYWAYS enjoy lol)

Ten Cents: Black with a slight wave to it. His hair looks almost identical to Hercules' (has the same little curl on his forehead), except for the fact he prefers it to be much shorter and doesn't like it when it peaks out from under his hat.

Big Mac: Black and pin straight. Prefers to keep it very short, It distracts him if it's too long.

OJ: He's BALD. (It used to be Blond and decently straight, liked keeping it short.)

Top Hat: Black and wavy. Super vain about it and loves getting it styled. Will harass Captain Star to book him a haircut every month.

Warrior: Black and Curly. Doesn't really think about his hair too much, gets it cut when Capt. Star tells him too, but that's as much thought as he's willing to put into it.

Hercules: Wavy black hair. Loves having it show from under his hat (obviously) but he HATES getting it cut. (he finds it overstimulating)

Sunshine: Blond and wavy, and has a LOT of it hiding under that hat. Loves keeping it long and gets a little upset when Capt. Star makes him get a haircut.

Zorran: Black with a slight curl. Longer than you'd expect, but he does a good job hiding under his hat.

Zebedee: Straight and black. Like Warrior, he doesn't really think about it too much.

Zak: Black and straight. HATES having it long, so he always gets it buzzed off.

Zug: Black and curly. Doesn't really care how his hair looks, so he keeps it the same length has Zak.

Zip: Straight and the only blond out of the Z-Stacks, and is super self-conscious about it. Doesn't go to get it cut as often as he should.
