hi!! so this isn't actually the case as while gourdy was briefly mentioned in a trial, said trial had nothing to do with whether or not gourdy was "real" per se as much as. well. murder, actually. while gourdy WAS found out to be an inflatable steel samurai this was not brought up in the case at all as the veracity of gourdy wasn't really as relevant as the fact that the witness was looking for gourdy rather than at the murder she claimed to have seen. plus this was also a relatively small part of a MUCH larger trial which for those interested not only solved the dl-6 case but ALSO marked the end of prosecutor von karma's ~40 year long record and the court records are really a fascinating read through!!

Affection-How and how often do they show affection?

🩸 Long story in short, you'll have to earn it. Muzan is never, never, a man who just gives someone something out of the amiableness. He wants to be worshipped by his darling, wants to be respected and feared by them. Nothing you get is for free, there is always a price to pay. In the case of his affection it's your own obedience and love, only then will Muzan mellow out enough to show you his own affection, otherwise he'd be too proud to dote on a human. There is the affection he gives merely to display you as his little pet which happens in rare cases where he takes you with him when he meets his Upper or Lower Moons where an arm holds you tightly or, in case he's sitting, your head is in his lap or you're completely placed on his lap. Physical affection isn't Muzan's man way of showing his affection though and it's safest to only do it when he's initiating it first since he might be displeased if you touch him without his allowance. His main ways are gifting you whatever someone could buy with money or quality time, idle times where he isn't as menacing as normally.

Blindness-How obvious are they to their feelings? Are they delusional?

🩸 Muzan views himself as the almost perfect being, he only has to find the Spider Lilly and then he'll have reached perfection. He's selfish and willing to do anything to satisfy his own desires. Whilst he probably knows that everyone else despises and fears him for the bloody meassurements he takes to reach his goal, he only cares about himself. Everything he does, he does for himself. Muzan is deceptive so he notices an interest before it can even fully escalate. Especially since he has never spared humans much thoughts, they're low creatures and only function as a source of food for him and his minions. They're below him. His pride tries at first to convince him that those feelings are nothing real, that there is a plain and forgettable reason why you stay on his mind. This short illusion lasts only short though before the demon realizes that you're permanently on his mind.

🩸 He could never see the blame in himself, could never acknowledge that he has fallen in love with a human at first. There's anger at first, anger directed at you before the slow acceptance settles in. As a man who sees himself as godlike, Muzan sees everything below him out of lack of respect and his own conviction that he's superior. This makes him a delusional and apathetic man. If he wants something, he never considers the feelings of others which is exactly the same with his darling. He desires you, you're on his mind so he'll just take you for himself. Muzan never considers you as an equal either due to his twisted view and expects you to take your place below him. You might be the dear and precious to him but you can never rise up to be an equal. In his eyes you will always remain as someone who is below him and should accept their place, should be grateful to be able to be with him at all.

Confession-How do they make their feelings visible? Would they ever confess and court their darling?

🩸 As mentioned before, his immense pride and his low opinion about humans in particular cause him to never show anyone his true feelings. It's shameful, embarrassing and above all it's humiliating and you can guess how that affects his mood. Muzan stays clearly away from you, something you might not even notice since you have never met this man before in your life. You're unsuspecting of the man who could kill you with such ease. Muzan might never reveal himself until you've already been kidnapped, an exception may be if he uses his disguise to mix with humans and you just happen to be someone he meets daily during that time.

🩸 Even then there are my serious doubts if he would actually go out his way to court his darling since Muzan is surprisingly impatient when it comes to the aspect of having his darling. He just wants to own them, he can always teach them later how to treat him with respect and adoration. Muzan is simply not someone who goes the first step of courting and admitting his feelings to you since in his opinion it's a clear display of weakness. Something he doesn't want anyone to see him as, including you. The only thing you might notice before the abduction is that Muzan is possessive, a displeased and scary look in his eyes if he ever catches you with someone else.

Death-How messy are they? Do they feel guilty/sorry for the lives they take?

🩸 Muzan is heartless when it comes to taming you into obedience and will be especially strong in gaslighting and blackmailing you and everyone you hold even the slightest bit close to your heart. He has no consideration for your own feelings and you learn to know that he is willing to let everyone get slaughtered if it serves to push you into the ideal obedient and good version of you he desires. Muzan isn't someone to dirty his hands that often himself though, he has demons all over Japan listening to his every word and demand and often considers lives not even worthy to take himself. Often he just orders one of his demons to kill someone for him. With you he might change that a bit though, mainly to show you what happens when you don't behave yourself. He lets a demon deliver the person to him and makes a little show out of it in front of you, chides you for not doing as you were supposed to do.

🩸 He harbors no guilt for the lives he takes and he has never done so in his entire life. In best cases he just sees humans as a nuisance. In your case he either kills humans who might have dared to try to charm you before you were abducted or people close to you to brutally teach you why you should head his every word or he kills demons without consideration if they tried to eat you. Demons are pawns easily replaced so he wastes no time with them, with humans it depends on how close you're to them since he might end up toying with them a bit only to see you begging on all four for his mercy. It's all a fruitless labor in the end though since he always slaughters everyone who is even a small thorn in his eyes.

This is one weird thing to wrap one's head around, but if I understood it right, the stone (if it could be gotten) is the first matter of creation and putting it in an elixir would change the properties to some perfect balance, so you'd want the grains of it, as a powder, for use. Lestat being the philosopher's grains for mixing a vampire's HIGH PRAISE.

"Thinking of a new element, an untested substance"

Why's Magnus obsessed with Lestat's wolf killing? Why is THAT the crucial element he thinks would be irreplaceable if he decided not to take Lestat? There's two answers! It tells Magnus everything about how Lestat will handle becoming a vampire. He has a nature to kill he can enjoy, he has a means to recover from a deeply altering sense of self/depression, and he considered his family gone and felt ok. All that will happen to Lestat, and in Magnus plan it has to happen to Lestat alone (without his being there). He needs to KNOW Lestat's good, that he's not vulnerable to misery or giving up on surviving. He needs an empirical weight to it, cause that's how he rolls, needs things closer to facts than guesses. And then, it also relates them. Lestat in the woods, being alone, hunting, is timeless. Magnus in the woods, being alone, gathering his materials, is timeless. So many hours they've experienced where there's no cultural disconnect, doing what they love, they can completely understand one another in these memories. They can bond. And the medieval weapons Lestat used! Right from Magnus era practically. He had a sword too. 5)🩸 "Ask for the dark water. You'll find it water of all waters."

The dialogue before the turning the the most intentionally altered, as in many places it remained exact or had single word/phrase omissions.

Why?

Although alchemists were wildly fueled with religious thoughts in the middle ages, Magnus would have been among those in the late-1400s, closer to the Renaissance. I wanted his interpretation to be functionally atheist, a REALLY rare quality for thinkers then, an extreme. His living with such a secret conviction, that no one agrees with would make a compelling part of his inner fire. And a dichotomy too, being so aware of religion but indifferent to it. Circling back, Anne's heavily Christ like language from Magnus, in the original, sounded too sincere, from a closet atheist, there's not enough clever perversion telling Lestat what's really him. 6)⏰ "I turn the dial to wind it. I live forever."

Mechanical clocks are a 1300s invention. By the 1400s there's small clocks and they are spring driven! They get a twist from a nifty crank/dial daily to keep going. Time keeping in this era's always on the mind so that's why it's kicking around in his brain in general. And in context to his turning, Magnus is implying he did everything he needed once for immortality and it will go on as it is, it won't run out! The opposite of expectations. It's got such a flair of his ego! 7)❄️

"Standing this night, a cold December night" I wrote in December! As a reference, I changed the night Lestat's kidnapped by Magnus. That evolves into fun astrology theory in Then Shall Change Red too, as a bonus. Magnus, as a medieval thinker, wouldn't have transformed his fledgling approaching the month of Scorpio. However, October (2022) IS when I first read TVL though, right on Lestat's book canon immortal birthday.

8)🧻 "Soured by the street waste" Paris had sewers by 1370! Then didn't modernize them until 1855! We're in 1781 in our story, mostly pre-plumbing, so the streets are dirty (though made with drainage in mind). People also carried their fresh water in buckets from the Seine. 9)🥩 "It does taste good in that way." Vampires don't use tastebuds anymore, but beef might be the only food that has a blood flavor to it, if cooked savory/not too much. That would translate as an eating memory! Wild! And perfect to add because of the stew Lestat eats in TVL.

Lestat and Nicki's romance is such a true love's tale. Magnus no doubt glimpsed their attraction while mind reading, during theatre performances, hastily lifting a thrilling fact: Lestat's attracted to men, just as much as he is. Then caught up in himself, a powerful vampire on the go getting things done, he wouldn't realize they're IN A RELATIONSHIP until he's at their bedside. 11)���️ "Sunlight in the hair" "Golden hair on pillowed satin rags" Lestat's aspects (physical and otherwise) cross over into representation of alchemy, in the flesh (the list is long guys), and what probably fed Magnus subconscious/conscious obsession with blonde hair is his fixation on symbology, what gold represents. Alchemy's his happy place. 12)💔 "I love you. Magnus." The total times Magnus tells Lestat to "Ask" for him is five, all of these Lestat denies. But in a very sweet parallel, Lestat also says "I love you" five times. Don't @ me if this reminds of the three denials of Peter. 13)🚫 With the creative task of wondering what extra stuff would be in Magnus head, I had to choose the thoughts he'd have about his servant. And the amount's zero (I'm glad you noticed). Lestat's the only thing that exists for this guy after committing, let's be real. 14)💬 First Person Present Tense! Anne wrote TVL in First Person Past Tense. To be authentic to the Vampire Chronicles style of writing I felt I should use the same. But as Magnus is now in the Vampire Beyond, how would he retell his story? He'd have to tell it in real time! 15)🌿 "Where the doves have been. The apple wine." Why doves? I chose them intentionally as a visual symbol. They've always represented peace, love, and hope. Black, Soft, Unearthly is meant to be viewed as why Lestat and Magnus reached these feelings with each other, in Anne's writing. It unpacks the narrative delicately, in detail, from the immortal's eyes, which is Anne's usual go to. In the case of Lestat's story, we see it all through his mortal eyes only. This effects people I think, a lot more than they realize. Emphasizing doves also alludes to the concept of a nest, because Magnus' made Lestat's nest worth it's salt. Coven vampires didn't get strong blood or wealth or freedom. Lestat did.

🩸is ur oc squeamish? are they disturbed by the sight of blood? have they ever been in a situation where they had to overcome being squeamish? | i think she was probably squeamish as a little kid but she had to get over it Real fast with the way her family lived. not only having to see and also deal with her siblings getting hurt/sick/dying in varying degrees of bloody ways (because again, her parents did Nothing to try and heal their children, and when it was time to bury them that responsibility would often fall on feiga), but living in the middle of buttfuck nowhere, they had to hunt for their food. im thinking this is something she would do with her father, and then when it was time to clean/process the meat, she would do that with her mother. very bloody jobs, very bloody childhood in general for her—and adulthood! since she goes Immediately from the cabin in the tundra to her assassin training, like shes roughly 14ish? when she starts her training (shes an exceptional shot). literally she is plucked up out of her childhood home and becomes an assassin, there is no point in her life where she isnt being confronted with blood and gore and death. and ofc there are jobs where sniping a mark may not be the best option, so she has had to kill with her hands, up close and personal. she is no stranger to this stuff, and it doesnt bother her at all, it hasnt in about two decades

Vince doesn't drink! Not out of conviction or anything like that, his body just doesn't process alcohol well, meaning he gets drunk/sick from alcohol fast, which doesn't make the whole thing very enjoyable xD A beer or a light cocktail with a lot more more lemonade/nicola/tonic than alcohol are fine, and he won't say no to either, but any more than that and the night is over xD He only really drinks when he's in good company and knows there's someone who would have an eye out on him - otherwise he'll just pass and doesn't mind being the designated driver. In regard to the "what kind of drunk" - is there a miserable drunk? xD Because if he really goes beyond a little tipsy, which doesn't affect his mood or behavior much, he'll just be miserable wanting to go home xD

Jackie was his best friend, and even though Vince also becomes very close with Judy (and Kerry, obviously), the friendship with Jackie was something different though. They'd known each other for around 10 years when Jackie died, and to Vince he was truly like an older brother, family. What he liked the most about Jackie was his optimism and open, friendly mindset, while at the same time he could also be quite sly and mischievous. He knew exactly what he wanted, always, or at least so it seemed to Vince. The other way around Jackie liked Vince's strength - not physical strength, but he is determined and stubborn and not shy about doing everything he needs to do to get what he wants. And he was intrigued by how under the cold and calculating exterior there was a very soft core actually that really only close people like Jackie ever got to see. How they originally met in my headcanon was pure chance to a degree. Vince was at a party in the city center with a friend, and he had "borrowed" his mother's car. Because he was a dumb rich kid at the time he unknowingly parked it on Valentino turf, and when he and his friend got back, a bunch of Valentinos were in the process of stealing it. Vince's friend bailed, Vince faced the Valentinos and got beat up pretty badly (but also would've rather been killed by the Valentinos that tell his mom "I got your car stolen by a gang"). Jackie was among the gangers and managed to talk down the leader from killing Vince, which in return got him into trouble as well. But no better way of bonding than miserably sitting in a dirty alley in the middle of the night and sharing a packet of tissues to wipe blood off your face.

He's not very squeamish I wouldn't say. He's not a fan of violence or blood either, but I figure if you spend enough time on Night City's streets it's something you just get used to, or rather, grow numb to. A hard situation where he definitely reached his limit of what he's able to deal with was definitely Evelyn's suicide, because he's struggled with depression and according thoughts as well. So the personal connection, to Evelyn and what she went through, then also having Judy all upset as well, and that whole day hit him very hard in that regard.

His favourite band from since when he was a teenager have always been the Cartesian Duelists, and also any solo projects of Slavoj McAllister. He's a big fan and knows every song by heart XD In general he likes music in that general style the Duelists make the best (and here's just me not being good with determining genres or being able to tell them apart xD). Rock, metal, with electronic components or without, or just electronic dance music to vibe to as well are his jam. He's also fond of J-Pop and enjoys mainstream music as well XD Speaking of ingame radios, his favourites would be Radio Vexelstrom, Darkstar Radio, Morro Rock Radio, Night FM, Growl FM, and Body Heat Radio in that order more or less.
