Hello! Welcome to the blog. This is an ask blog featuring the four document keepers of GaleNation, which we'll highlight below. This blog is run by two people, Anguilla^2 (who will be the one most frequently doing the art) and Clelia^2, we'll mention who made the post in tags most likely alongside any characters featured in the posts. The characters in this post, and GaleNation, are part of the lore in the Windscaleverse, you don't have to be part of the Windscale community to make an ask but do keep that in mind. Seems pretty calm, considered fairly trustworthy despite his position. Left his son with his strange cousin, maybe not the best choice but at least he has a caretaker! Not sure he really has hobbies; all he does is work and drink coffee.

About GaleNation

GaleNation (pronounced Gal - En - Aytion) is a science company spread out in multiple sites across the continents. They frequently do research relating to diseases, wildlife, the ancient times, and the elements, though they have other subjects as well. The company is viewed as a face of the science community, and it's considered an honor to work in their mixed species environment, however, most employees rarely get to leave their sites and are often not seen by friends and family for long periods of time. The CORE site is the central site for GaleNation, all types of research are done within the site, which also holds higher danger entities and experiments, is the final storage place for documents not being publicly released and has all the top scientists of the company within it. It takes a lot of work to get into the site, but many still strive to reach that goal. MOCK is able to shift our perceptions of each member into a consistent species for ease of communication.

Story introduction

Hello hello! My current online name is Brugmansia, after my favorite flowers, angels trumpets.

I'm an 18 y/o artist and writer who is very into medical science and fantasy. I'm currently working on a story called Project Peony that I plan to involve in a mini writing series that explores experimentation and modern science in an alien world.

Project Peony is very, very, very vaguely based on the modern retellings of Hades and Persephone but if all romance was replaced with dark psychological horror.

It is a story that takes place as part of a larger universe and story I'm working on with my partner called CrossRoads. While Project Peony does not directly affect the main story it is meant to explore my portion of the world that I've been creating for a few years.

That part of the world is a planet called Desil that exists in a completely different dimension from Earth. It is full of many strange humanoid creatures with my main focus being a species called Opusille.

They have a large and complicated world that is a mix of magic and science, but the science is my primary focus in this story.

Project Peony is going to hold many dark subjects such as:

The affects of a fantasy war being fought with magic and science mixing.

The ethics of 'human' experimentation for the greater good

Creating lab born children that are born with the purpose of being soldiers

Extreme psychological abuse

Medical abuse

Torture and body deformity

Age gap relationships with the intention of manipulation

Toxic relationship dynamics

Many mentions of child death

And the largest story point of all, Does artificial life deserve human rights if it's capable of emotion and complex thought

If any of these topics are unappealing or upsetting then don't bother reading this story or looking further into my account.

This story comes in two parts and I will refer to them as Project Peony and Project Peony: Failure to show the different parts.

Most of the story will be told through reports made by scientists with art to follow. I'm not the best at digital so most of it will come in the form of traditional artwork.

I am agender and go by all pronouns but I would prefer they/them.

I'm on the aro/ace spectrum and I have a partner of almost 5 years.

I plan to attend college soon to study nursing and later on marine science.

Things I Learnt This Week: Genetics (Mostly)

Queen bees make male bees by using only their DNA. Male bees are only needs to fertilise female eggs so that the hive (made of mostly girls) is less susceptible to disease and genetic flaws wiping everyone out in one go

Hybrid animals (ligers, zorses etc) can’t have babies because their sex cells get fucking up by having genetics that don’t match up. BUT female mules can sometimes have babies by ignoring their farther’s DNA altogether, leaving them with what is essentially their own sister.

We have never seen DNA close enough to see the spirally shape its so famous for. We figured out thats what it looks like by taking an xray of it and using math to it figure out from there. (Idk its complicated.)

Redheads can metabolise vitamin D with very little sunlight. They also need 30% more anaesthetic to reach the same level of sedation

Maori people have the beautiful way of greeting each other called Hongi, where they press their nose and forehead together. Seeing these tough, tattooed men be so physical is very sweet.

Identical twins may have identical DNA, but the way their genes function can actually differ significantly due to changes that happen after they split in the womb. One can even be colourblind but not the other.

Y chromosomes only help to make sex cells, but X chromosomes do all kinds of crazy stuff, including making calico cats (which are universally female… kinda)

Apples trees of each variety come from one single tree that made fruit that tasted good. Apples don’t taste the same as their parents so when they grow one thats good, they need to cut of branches and make clones instead. Most fruit trees are like this.

Snake venom came from an enzyme they used for themselves initially, until a gene mutation moved it’s production sight to their mouthes and it helped them kill more prey by fucking up their blood.

The 50/500 rule is a general guide used by conservationists that says you need 50 individuals to restart a population without too much inbreeding, and 500 to maintain healthy genes and manage unhealthy ones. However, there are programs that can tell you how many you’ll need on a species-by-species basis, accounting for lifespan, reproduction rates, genetics and even random disasters that might kill off a lot of the population suddenly.

Bonus: There’s a kind of mite that has its eggs hatch internally, made up of all girls except for one boy who breeds with all his sisters. Then they burrow out of their mother already pregnant and start the cycle again.

i only have a couple sci-fi WIPs, one of them is Out of the Park, and the other is my very new Space Cruise WIP. I think i'll be able to include both of them in this!

🤔What kind of technology is still being developed in your WIP? What’s something they’re still trying to figure out?

Answered this one for Space Cruise already, so I'll go with OOTP!

There's still no widespread space travel in this WIP! Once sapient robots got accidentally created, it kinda went on the back-burner of "things that are important to deal with right now." It's been a little while, though, so figuring out how to travel through space is back on! And now that robots exist, they can probably help achieve that goal!

🏈Have any new sports or games been invented with the advancement of technology? What are they?

Perhaps it's not a "new" sport, but in the case of OOTP, the existence of robots that are smarter, faster, and stronger than humans has led to adapting existing sports to make accommodate robot players without it being super easy and boring. At least casually, the professional world still has to catch up.

Co-ed robot/human sports clubs tend to have a no-contact rule for obvious reasons, and while this might seem like it makes things way more boring, it actually produces some creative solutions. How do you get the other team to drop the Sport Ball without touching them? How do you, as the person with the Sport Ball, get through the wall of defense without barreling through it?

Additionally, since robots can perfectly calculate angles, wind resistance, strength to throw a certain distance/speed, etc, the psychological warfare game is off the charts. You can't stop them from throwing the ball perfectly, but can you convince to throw it in the wrong direction?

Making sports more like a puzzle isn't necessarily what a lot of people are into, but it's better than purposefully inhibiting your own functioning and damaging your CPU in the process. Not naming names.

There are absolutely groups that want humanity to stop claiming planets and territories, on both ends of the spectrum. One side is on the Colonization Bad end, because colonization is bad. They cite the resource gobbling that happens on nearly every human settlement and then point back to Earth—the cycle of destroying a planet in the name of short-term profit is repeating itself over and over, and now we also have to contend with the fact that extraterrestrial life exists. Are we killing alien animals? Species that will never get to evolve to become our neighbors? What would have happened to these planets if they were left alone? They already had life on them and it's not humanity's place to stick a flag in everything that "isn't technically inhabited."

On the other end, there groups that want humanity to stop expanding because humanity is making too many friends with aliens, and we should instead be blowing them up. We need to lock down our borders that we already have—we can't possibly defend so many planets if The Scary Bad Aliens attack!!!!! We need to make sure all humans are segregated from aliens to reinforce our True Nature and take over the galaxy.

Both of these groups are relatively fringe.

They have! I'm gonna be honest, this sci-fi is soft as fuck, and I am not even going to bother thinking about how FTL travel exists. The important thing is that they have spaceships that can go real fast and that's all you need to know <3

🧬How different are the aliens, biologically, from humans in your WIP? Are they bonding over shared mammalian traits or unable to comprehend each other?

This one is Space Cruise Related!

The one sapient alien race I currently have are my crocodile aliens that I spoke about in another ask (you can find their description here). They are reptiles! They are quite different from humans, being a whole different class and order of animals most obviously.

Before the two groups got their respective top linguists up there and learned each other's languages, the only way they knew the other group was at least somewhat advanced was they they both had spaceships. And translating that language was hard, too, since the croc aliens don't have the same vocal chords as humans do, or lips, and their tongues can't move much, so their frills supplements a lot of their speech when it comes to tone and intention. Humans, on the other hand, make so many crazy fuckin' noises and scrunch our faces up when we have feelings instead of having the manners to turn a completely different color, it's hard for them to differentiate our tones and expressions. Because there's so goddamn many of them.

Humans are initially (and probably still) weirded out that these aliens don't wear a whole lot, meanwhile the aliens are wondering why we aren't basking. Aren't we cold? And once they figure out we can regulate our own body temperature they go WHAT??? WE DIDN'T KNOW MAMMALS COULD BE SAPIENT and then humans go WE DIDN'T KNOW REPTILES COULD BE EITHER!!!

There's a lot of learning going on! We are different, but also much the same <3

Many families and friends were left behind or gone, others stayed with her at home. She has plenty of memorabilia and books to keep herself rescued. Such as the jewelry she wears.

Always wearing her earbuds, favorite black jacket, combat boots and leggings. Often carrying a handheld camera and gun in her pocket.

Abilities — Pathokinesis ~ The power to sense and perceive the emotions of others.

Amelia is often seen as reluctant, resourceful and willing to take the leap to make sure that everyone is safe. Despite that she’s kindhearted, patient, generous, witty and passionate on occasion.

Even if she is seem like a respectable strong young woman to many, she is often an over thinker and panics easily, if something happens incorrectly. Which leads to her bitting her nails and shifting uncomfortably among peers, if she’s nervous.

When she’s not on the field collecting items, scratching up folks into alleyways so they get caught and exploring new areas to find resources/refigure a better way—she’s at the bunker resting up.

At the bunker she’s sharing stories, stocking up on food and other medicine just in case.

Making sure everyone is alright and feeling comfortable, as she makes sure blankets and beds are available, turning on old TVs for entertainment.
