Their Return

F/O: Caitlyn, Vi (Platonic for now) | Word Count: 1356 //takes place in like the first half of episode 8 (for those who've seen arcane ^^) but yeah (we're getting to like scene rewrites though that's not all this is ^^) anyways, i hope you enjoy it! <3

The initial sound of boots hitting the polished floor of Caitlyn's bedroom isn't enough to wake April. Not quite. She grumbles softly and rolls over, but her body stays at rest.

Caitlyn smiles briefly as she sees the messy hair peeking out of the covers. It's no surprise to her that she'd end up stealing her bed again while the two of them were gone.

She and Vi barely have a second to breathe before the door crashes open, the sound forcefully tugging April from her slumber. Her tired mind is too addled to keep up and by the time she registers what's going on, Caitlyn's father is tugging Caitlyn into a hug.

"Another stray, Caitlyn?" Her mother says, eliciting a memory that has April snorting softly behind her hand. Still, she says nothing as Caitlyn introduces Vi and then goes off with her parents for a private talk.

"Hey, Vi," April murmurs, sitting up a little straighter.

The sound of her voice breaks Vi out of her thoughts and she turns around, her eyes widening as she spots the map laid out in front of Caitlyn's bed. "…Hey. Mind if I..?" She gestures at the bed, sitting down when April shakes her head.

"Thank you," April says after a moment of silence, reaching out to lightly pat Vi on the shoulder.

"…for?"

"You got her back safe, didn't you?" April says softly. She can see the blood staining the wraps on Vi's hand and on her shirt. Something clearly went down, and sure, Caitlyn was injured enough to need Vi's assistance walking, but at least she's alive.

"…Yeah." Vi turns to look at her, leaning back on one of her hands. The action reveals the extent of red staining her shirt to the other woman's gaze.

"What happened?" She asks, reaching a hand out as if to touch her before withdrawing it.

"Got in a fight. Cupcake rescued me." Vi shrugs. "I'm fine now." She lifts the shirt enough to show the skin underneath, which bears no resemblance to how cut up it had been.

April nods, the concern leaving a little. "Cupcake?" She asks, her lips quirking up. Honestly, she should be annoyed, or jealous even, of someone giving her girlfriend such a cute nickname. But strangely, she isn't. She even finds it cute.

Vi's eyes widen, a hint of worry flickering through them. "I meant Caitlyn. Sorry, I know she's your, uh…"

April snickers at the expression on her face, cutting her off. "It's fine. Honestly, it's kinda cute. She is sweet like one, isn't she?"

Vi blinks at her before grinning at her. "Yeah, she is." She exhales with relief that April's not upset with her, and she stretches out on the bed, keeping her eyes toward the door. "So, what was with that stray comment earlier? You snorted."

April giggles at the reminder. "Oh, her mother just said something similar to that when she first met me. We were so young then… I got lost exploring the city, and Cait found me. We've been friends ever since," She says with a shrug.

"Mm." Vi smiles at the cute image that brings to mind. Somehow, it doesn't surprise her that they've known each other for so long. She tries not to feel jealous of that fact, of them having a normal childhood together where they weren't in danger.

The door opens before they have the chance to talk further. "We'll present our case to the council tonight," Caitlyn murmurs, seeming a bit shocked. April's eyes widen, surprised that her mother agreed to arrange that for them. Even if she's out of the loop a bit, it's a little unexpected.

She starts walking to the bed and Vi's eyes drop back to the map in front of her. "You did all this yourself?" She asks. "Without even going down there?"

April smiles at the awe in her voice, pride in her girlfriend's skills filling her heart. Caitlyn comes to sit on the bed, Vi rolling to the side to make room for her. "And I thought Powder could get obsessed…"

The question settles on the tip of her tongue, but April stays quiet. It's good that she does or she would've spoken over Caitlyn.

"What happened to her… it's not your fault." Caitlyn turns to look at Vi. April's eyes follow hers as much as she wants to keep staring at her. Sue her, it's been two days without her girlfriend. She's missed her.

Caitlyn lays down as well, her head resting on April's thighs. April moves a hand to brush a piece of hair out of her face. She lays back too, leaving all three of them staring at the canopy above Caitlyn's bed.

"When my parents were still alive, me and Powder used to share a bed like this, 'cept, maybe, half the size," Vi murmurs. "We played a game where we pretended to be bigger and bigger monsters."

As she speaks, Caitlyn turns a little so she can see her face. That look of fondness in her eyes should bother April, but as her eyes also land on Vi, seeing the almost fond reminiscence there as she keeps talking, she can't bring herself to mind.

She's always assumed that she would get jealous if this would happen. She's not blind. Caitlyn's nearly giving Vi the same look she gets. But somehow, it feels right.

Vi rolls to face them, the three of them making an almost perfect circle on the bed. April cautiously lays her head against Vi's calves, half-expecting to be pushed off. Vi keeps talking, seemingly unbothered.

At least, not by her. She talks about how the game would go too far and her sister would get scared, and that she'd pretend to scare her own monsters off to cheer her sister up.

"Then a real monster appeared, and I just ran away…" Vi shuts her eyes, the pain in her expression tugging at April's heart. "I left her."

Caitlyn reaches out to cup her face, and Vi takes her hand, practically nuzzling into it. April moves her free hand and takes Vi's, simply smiling sympathetically at her when her eyes open and regard her with confusion.

Vi scans her face before huffing softly and shutting her eyes again. She squeezes April's hand in a silent show of thanks.

The three of them lay there until Vi's breaths have evened out. They have plenty of time before the council appearance, so Caitlyn nor April wakes her up. She deserves the rest anyhow.

"April," Caitlyn murmurs after who knows how long. "I… About Vi." Her voice sounds unsure. It makes April smile.

"You like her." The words are stated simply, and she giggles as Caitlyn's eyes widen, a panicked look in them. She shakes her head when Cait seems about to defend herself, pointedly glancing at Vi, who's still peacefully asleep.

"It's okay, Cait." Her voice sounds warm. Like this knowledge doesn't change anything. Caitlyn blinks at her. "Seriously. You can like her too. It's okay."

"…really? You're not upset?"

April laughs softly. "No. Surprising, isn't it?" She can be rather possessive, especially when talking to Caitlyn one-on-one. Caitlyn nods. "I don't get it either. Maybe because it's her. I get it. She's… something else, isn't she?"

"She is." Caitlyn exhales softly, turning to press a kiss to April's leg. "So, what does this mean for us?"

April frowns at the worry she can hear in her tone. "I'm yours and you're mine. Just… you can see where this goes. I don't mind, Cupcake," She says teasingly, trying to stifle her laughter at the way the word makes Caitlyn go pink, her eyes practically shining.

"If you ever get uncomfortable about this, tell me. Alright?" Caitlyn asks, the concern in her voice making April's heart flutter.

"Alright. Now, rest. You have a council meeting to attend tonight. I'll wake you both early enough to get your thoughts together."

"Mm, okay… I love you…" Caitlyn murmurs, letting her eyes fall shut. She falls asleep to the sweet sound of those words being returned and the scent of her favorite person.

Kuroo is someone who can't stop touching you. So why is it you are the one whose always manhandled away from the stove, with his work-tired eyes crinkling at you from behind his glasses. His hands search a little too far because you are trying to make dinner but it's so fucking distracting when they slip under you loose cotton shirt and touch the gentle rolls of your stomach. Your body gives way to him though, as he presses needy kisses to the underside of your jaw, like he's certain if he has his lips on you, he won't ever have to leave again. "Testurou," you whine, glancing over your shoulder at the stove. "At least let me turn it off." He huffs not quite a negative but not quite an agreement, his tightening grasp is answer enough. "We can't let dinner burn or god, the house burst into flames," you sigh as you cup the back of his neck and press your forehead to his. His hazel eyes narrow in that way that makes you feel alive. It sends zaps of electricity through you nerves. It's something you only see when he looks at you, talks about his job, or guards the net on the volley ball court. The latter has been something you haven't seen since high school, when you knew who he was but you were just another face in the crowd at school. "Fine," he sighs, moving to drop his face into the crook of your neck like you've denied him all things necessary in life in that one instant. "I'll be back," you promise, because you always flit towards him like a moth to the flame. You may have fallen first, but from the way he watches you, you know even now after the two years you've been together, he's fallen harder.
