Also, for executioners— I read once that it was really hard to get married as one, for obvious reasons, so it was sometimes allowed for executioners to pardon female criminals with death sentences if they agreed to marry the executioner. you turn your phone on and look at the date. "april first!"

"okay, today is april fools, right? a day where it's okay to joke around?" suna says, putting his walk to a halt. you turn around, confused at the sudden stop. "suna?"

"i like you."

you blink at him. "wait, what—?"

"your eyes are so sparkly that i think i'll go blind from looking for too long. whenever you skip over to greet me every morning, your hair bounces with every step, and i find it so stupidly adorable. your personality is nowhere near mine, yet you stick around and always try to get something out of me."

you're at loss for words, but suna isn't.

he has yet to finish.

"at first, you were very irritating. i thought that you were naïve and a bit of a clutz, which is sorta true," you let out a small "oh" before suna continues. "but you're a hard-working girl. you make an effort every day to keep your friends happy, and you notice the littlest things that upset them." suna leans down, quite close to you.

"you aren't the only one who notices the little things, though." you can't even find a reply, too flustered from the entirety of suna's ramble.

suna's taking in every bit of your expression right now. cheeks and ears burning galore, with a lost little look on your face. just how he wanted.

"hey," he placed a hand on your shoulder, "i hope you remember that it's april fools. so don't take it too seriously."

so with a pat goodbye, suna leaves you standing there, absolutely frozen, while he whistles a tune. he practically broke you!

no, you knew suna better than that. you knew he meant every word that fell from his lips.

so with an excited smile, you rush over and catch up to suna, giving him a giant back hug. "that wasn't a very believable prank, suna." you mumbled into his uniform.

💖 What is your primary writing goal for this year?

I've been considering submitting a short story to one of those literary competitions, but honestly I've never done that before and know very little about that kind of thing. I should probably get researching and figure it out.

On that note, I'd like to get into a better schedule with writing/writing related activities. I feel like this past year, the ADHD has really won, and I've struggled to focus. I've started to impose time restrictions for certain time-wasting websites, and I can tell that's already helped. I think I should probably schedule my days out better than I have been.

🦷 Is there a chapter, scene, or WIP you're dreading to write (but is necessary to your plot)? Share a snippet or tell us about it!

I am dreading writing some of the end of Broken Oaths a bit. It's too spoilery to give much information, but I have doubted from the start many would be happy with the ending. Back when I thought it was going to be a two or three chapter fic, that didn't bother me much. Now I wonder.

though not frequently applicable, i prefer writing original characters. i come up with the odd one now and again (like some of my beloved queer siji disciples in my chengling fix it au). i don't believe i've ever done a reader insert! maybe someday.

i don't actually have a notes app but i do take notes in my personal discord server. the last fic related note i wrote was, "5 times wen kexing caught liu qianqiao + 1 time she caught him" and the beginnings of an outline to that end 🤭

🦷 ⇢ share some personal wisdom or a life hack you swear on

i assume this is meant to be writing-related, but my best hacks are actually, "just put a new chapstick in every location instead of trying to remember to take one around with you" and "put a bench/stool in the kitchen and bathroom, maybe even ones with wheels, you deserve to sit down while you do things"

writing advice? "write what fulfils you, when it fulfils you" -- need to stop everything and write a vent fic? do it. need to get out just an outline to an idea that grabbed your soul but never write or post it? do it. need to spend 3 months going feral writing a longfic that makes you happy and then leave it unfinished? Do It. need to write nothing but smutty pwp oneshots for your friends? you know you should just do it. need to stop writing for 2 years and then come back just to write some poetry for a rarepair in a fandom nobody's ever heard of? DO IT. as a hobby writer with no deadlines keeping food on my table, holding onto ownership of my agency around writing and only writing whatever i want and need whenever i want or need to--and the implied *don't* force myself to write things that hurt me or write when i can't--is what keeps writing healthy and joyous for me. and this isn't in conflict with fandom as community or participating in fic events, either--i write more prompt and gift fic than anything, tbh.

i don't typically keep up with popular fandom characters and opinions. uh. oh, here's one for shl. i don't think canon zhou zishu makes a good dad figure for zhang chengling. i think he does his best to be chengling's shifu: a distinctly different relationship to a father-son one, especially for them, that he formed as a late-20-something with a mostly grown teenaged boy. and i don't think either of them would even think of disrespecting chengling's father's memory by trying to just replace him. i think wenzhou and chengling are found family in a more grounded and queerly expansive way, distinct from some nuclear ideal of parents-with-a-kid, and trying to force them into that relational tropey box does a serious disservice to the narrative and themes as they stand, to the character arcs as they stand, and feels like a weirdly unnecessary dismissal of the vast sprawling possibilities of human relationship.

but i mean, this is an opinion i hold in general about almost every fandom space so it's not new. i think characters are often much more (and sometimes much less) than "the mom of the trio" or "married with a kid" or anything else that tries to memeily-but-then-abruptly-seriously boil down characters to a single note, be it a gender role or a parental role or anything else. and sometimes the memes are funny, but often they transcend meme into serious character fanon and i bounce off it pretty quick.

finding one of my squicks that didn't make it into the tags to be filtered for (often i have squicks or unpreferences that aren't likely to be filterable via tags--like use of pet names that remind me of my ex, or other personal junk lol)

grammar/dialogue that is too difficult to parse is another. i'm not too picky about grammar or typos or anything normally, but like if i literally can't tell who's talking or what's happening at all, there's no real point keeping on reading. stuff like that.

If you have an idea--plot, line of dialogue, whatever--while you're falling asleep and tell yourself you'll remember it in the morning, no you won't. Dictate that shit to your notes app. This also applies while driving.

This is what Ana and Buck's conversation from TCL looked like originally--it's about a third of what's in my notes, from an hour-long drive.

On the down side, sometimes you get "Maybe it will be a calm fuck by 20 and already." I have no fucking idea what that sentence was supposed to be.

I will unironically ship cross-show host ships. Not just the ones from the smile crossover, things like AirCorn too where they've never met and have no chance of meeting.

People take issue with literally any ship Airy is in within his own show, which to some extent, I get. But I'm not saying I support actual irl relationships like any Airy x contestant ship, I literally ship BatJokes for God's sake. Having a host x host ship is good because usually their crimes are somewhat on level footing (even though most are treated like jokes), WHICH SIDE TANGENT HERE, I hhhhate people who will call me weird for trying to have a discussion about some of the character's immoral actions from less serious shows. Airy hfjONE for kidnapping and manslaughter is treated so much worse than Popcorn for SPREADING INFECTIOUS DISEASES. Just let me suspend disbelief a bit, ok. Yeah, so anyways, I think AirCorn is good bc Airy to some extent doesn't understand the severity of his crimes, whereas Popcorn does and would commit those crimes again.

I'm a sucker for the other host x host dynamics, too, and I just think we're so lucky to have gotten any crossover content we did, canon or not. TwoPhone has been fed?? I no joke started shipping AnimatiClock like three days before sacri uploaded the crossover, and I had no idea.

I'm trying to think of something else worthy of confession here, but I've already confessed a lot in different sessions, and this isn't an NSFW blog.

I still refuse to watch BFDI and affiliated shows, and I will say I find the writing utterly disgusting in the most literal sense. Gross-out humor is for children, but so is most of the stuff JnJ makes. I just think they could respect their audience's intelligence more. Even kids want well written humor in some ways, and I personally think object shows would do best as 'all ages' media that respect their audience. But JnJ makes so much money that I don't think it matters to them. Side note, I watched a livestream of theirs recently, and they seemed very tired. I could be reading into it, but seeing your audience is only children and that they've been doing this for over a decade, I wouldn't be surprised if they quit sometime soon and leave TPOT etc to be produced without them. I don't know if they have already or if they've talked about it, I don't plan to watch anything else from them, save for the specials with algebraliens in them. Needless to say, I won't keep track of it, and the only reason I'm not an outright JnJ hater is because of how close they work with AnimationEpic and the xfohv content. Other than that, grr.
