WAIT, idea time, what if everyone did th heare put cake challenge, that would be extremely funny
The Arcana HCs: The "Hear Me Out" Cake
~ inspired by you, anon friend, and written for @vesuviaweekly's prompt "spilling tea". Hope you enjoy the messy crackfic friend! ~
Julian
Puts you on the cake with 0 shame, promptly gets sprayed in the face by Portia because "that's not a 'hear me out' answer"
Did bring a stick with Asra's face on it. Ditched it on second thought before putting it on the cake
Did bring sticks with Muriel, Nadia, and Lucio on them and place them on the cake. Muriel refused to sit next to him afterwards. The whole group stared at him in disbelief when he revealed Lucio's face. Nadia said she was better than a "hear me out"
Julian's last faces were Nazali and Barth. It was increasingly clear by the end that he didn't fully understand the concept of a "hear me out" cake and that he had just gone with all the people he knew and found somewhat attractive
Asra
Half of the items they place on the cake aren't images, they're items representing concepts/beings with no faces
Most notable was a small slip with the words "The Patriarchy" on it. When pressed for an explanation, he explains that he "always has time to f*** the patriarchy." Portia is impressed
Others include all kinds of political and social norms they just wanted an excuse to make sassy, cutting remarks about
The other half of his items are intelligent beings whose existence were either rumored or up to debate entirely
This includes merpeople, goblins, dragons, spirits, and of course, several patrons including The Magician themself. You don't know how they feel about that one but Asra claims to have told them
Nadia
Doesn't have a lot of "hear me out"s to contribute, mainly because she got into her own head about listing anybody she might have a power dynamic over as the Countess
Does list Selasi and refuses to elaborate, regardless of how many comments everyone has to make on that one
Also not totally sure how the concept of a "hear me out" cake works, so most of her items aren't people - they're situations
Specifically intimate situations
Cue everyone in the room turning more and more red as she graphically describes every creative scene she could think of
Lucio's jaw drops further the longer she speaks and complains at one point about not getting any of this when they were married
Muriel
Didn't have any "hear me out"s so he brought a list of "I will not hear this out"s instead
It starts with obvious categories, at first - animals, anything or anyone unable to fully consent, family members -
And then continues with oddly specific descriptions clearly aimed at all the other people in the room. Exes, age gaps, reckless marriages to leave family/gain more power, transactional situationships to enable concerning behavior, saying "I love you" on the first date, saying "oopsie" instead of "I'm sorry" ...
His final item is a quickly-done (read: stick figure) doodle of himself with a big red X over it, which he makes on the fly after seeing his own face added to the cake
Portia
The whole thing was her idea and she is way too excited/invested in seeing what everybody brings
Has equipped herself with a little spray bottle that she uses on anybody whose answers are not satisfactory to her
Talks up her own items only for most of them to be fictional characters that nobody else in the group has heard of. Cue frantic lore dumping as she explains 1) why this character is usually considered a bad choice and 2) why she'd do them anyways
Is the person who made and brought the cake and gets particular (with Julian specifically) about adding items without ruining it
Adds Valerius, acts surprised when Lucio mentions sleeping with him, and uses it as an opening to interrogate him for juicy details
Lucio
Proudly adds all his exes to the cake and then all of the members of your group. Promptly gets into a loud back-and-forth with Portia while Nadia looks disapproving and Asra looks disgusted. Julian is too surprised to comment. Muriel begins work on his final item
Continues to add controversial figures to the cake, including all of the courtiers, the Devil, and his rendition of the slimy worm horrors known to lurk around Vlastomil's estate
Clearly enjoys every shocked/outraged/concerned reaction way more than he should because he's getting so much attention
Does go out of his way at the end of the gathering to clearly established that the vast majority of his items were jokes
Asks to cut the cake afterwards so he can secure a huge piece

Hey! So I borrowed the Mc ask game and I always figure turn about is fair play, especially when doing these things so number 5 please?
@sweetestlittledarling thank you for asking friend!!
5. Favorite color:
Drue's favorite color is blue (or silvery black, depending on the mood).
However, he has been known to say - while extremely sleep deprived - that his favorite color is the shade of his lover's eyes. He doesn't remember saying it and does blush and whine every time it gets brought up.

The Arcana Drabbles: When MC graduates
-- a little overdue something for a dear friend - congratulations and well done!! --
Julian can't stop fussing, whether someone tells him to or not. He's just so proud! You've just accomplished something amazing and he's so excited to have this new achievement in common with you. Will get choked up if he thinks about it for too long and clap so hard his hands are stinging and tender hours later.
Asra can't stop smiling. The degree doesn't mean nearly as much to them as the joy of watching you work for something that pays off. He's seen you through the deadlines and late nights and stress and admired what you've put into your goals - and here you are, succeeding, living, getting what you deserve!
Nadia can't stop her eyes from sparkling. She knew there were matters of privilege difference at play when you decided to attempt this level of higher learning - and seeing you overcome every obstacle has her inspired. She can't wait to support you as you bring your life to new heights. But for now, she's celebrating!
Muriel can't stop clapping. He doesn't do crowds, usually, but he's so, so proud of what you've stuck through and it's the least awkward way to express that in public. You'll find out later just how much he's been quietly cheering for you from the sidelines when he brings you the most thoughtful "take a break" basket you've ever received.
Portia can't stop cheering. That's her MC! That's her ride-or-die! It doesn't matter how far removed she is from where you receive your certificate, you, everyone involved in the ceremony, and the audience will hear her yelling your name. Her enthusiastic "wooo"s will still be ringing in your ears when you go to sleep that night.
Lucio can't stop boasting. Not about himself in the slightest, no, but about you. He thinks everyone should know that you earned your graduation twice over after all the work and determination you put into it. Just wait until all the pomp and ceremony is over with - nobody knows how to throw a party like he does!

Hello friend, I just wanted to send you all my well wishes for you in the new year. I want to thank you for all the inspiration and thought you have brought me in this community. Know that you have people out here who really appreciate you and while I wonder what craziness the new year will bring, know that I am sending all good thoughts to you for the upcoming year.
Sincerely,
Darling, Robin, Sparrow, and Lark
@sweetestlittledarling thank you so much, friend! It's been such a delight getting to know you and your apprentices better!
It's been such a privilege and honor to be part of this space and share my silly thoughts and scribbles with you and this community. Truly one of the most unexpected adventures I've had so far (and that is saying something)!
I'm excited to spend this coming year branching out and (hopefully) taking as many of you with me as want to be there. This community will always have a special space in my life :3
Cheers!

I saw this tweet and I thought of Asra.
@aster-spiral-30 who wants to bet that Asra has *almost* burnt down the shop at least twice because of this? xD
in all seriousness, you have to wonder if MC's general capable attitude might be partly due to having someone as nurturing but somewhat unreliable/out of touch as their mentor for three years lol

*old man Lucio & his daughter at a party, joking, & judging people*
DAUGHTER : “OK, what about him?”
LUCIO : “Nah, he’s way too foppish.”
DAUGHTER : “Dad, I mean this with love, but you used to be the most foppish man in the known world. Mom & Nadia told me plenty of stories.”
LUCIO : “Yeah, but I was able to make it look good.”
@aster-spiral-30 this makes me cackle because Lucio saying
"yeah, but I made it look good"
is his next favorite explanation for every life decision he made after "oopsie" xD

The Arcana Drabbles: Storm Traditions
~ written for the @vesuviaweekly prompt "snuggle weather" - enjoy some found family platonic fluff! ~
-- written so that reader does not have to be romantically involved with Asra to be considered part of the family --
"Watching the storm?"
The change in view is drastic enough to give you mild whiplash. Outside, torrents of rain are battering the cobblestones as the canal rushes by. Inside, Aisha is offering you a shawl to drape around your shoulders while Salim sets a fresh pot of tea next to the incense burner on the low table. She smiles as you accept the warmth.
"Asra was like that as a child, too. Always observing every new detail. We used to say that he would memorize the stars if he let him stay out late enough."
Salim laughs from the tea table. "Some things never change. Did you see him in the marketplace yesterday? I thought he was about to dismantle that poor new merchant's cart!"
You can't help but smile. Watching their family slowly knit back together has been a highlight of the last year. That said, this is perhaps the second or third time you've been with the older couple without Asra present, and you're a little unsure of where you fit in without that connection. There's a brief pause bordering on awkward where they share a look with each other before Salim breaks the silence.
"I'm so glad you decided to come over today and spend some time with us. Do you have a tradition of watching storms when they come in?"
You shrug. "I'm ... not sure. I might have picked that up from Asra when ... well, you know."
"Ah."
Another awkward pause. Salim scratches at his stubble sheepishly as Aisha gives him a look that says "seriously?". You pull the shawl tighter and scoot towards the tea table with a smile.
"It's okay, really. I don't mind talking about it."
"Oh, we shouldn't have brought it up -"
"In that case, where's your family?"
It's slightly hilarious to watch the breakdown in how synced they usually are. They both give each other wide-eyed "what was that??" looks, Salim absentmindedly passing you a cup of tea as Aisha sets a plate of treats down. You wrap your hands around the warm glass and shrug.
"I'm not sure. Asra knew about my aunt, but it's only been safe for him to tell me more about the past in the last year. Everyone else has been helping me search for clues - Nadia let me look at the city ledgers and census and Julian and Portia have been asking the ship crews that come in - but it's taking a while."
"If there's anything we can do -" Aisha begins,
"Yes! Anything at all -" Salim adds,
"Let us know."
You sip your tea and nod. "Thank you, I will."
"And ..." This time, it's Aisha who risks taking a relational step forward. "If you find yourself in need of a mother or father to talk to ..."
"Oh," Salim straightens, "Yes - not that we'd try to replace anybody -"
"- of course not." Aisha affirms. "But ... please, as much as you're comfortable with it. We'd love to be your family too."
You don't expect the sentiment to hit something so deep inside you, but it's hard not to tear up for a second. You nod.
"I'd like that. ... thank you."
They both light up. Aisha moves to a corner and picks out an old book from their shelf. "In that case, may we introduce you to one of our stormy weather traditions?"
Salim claps his hands, clearly caught up in the new idea. "I'll go get the powder!"
"What's the tradition?"
"May I join you?"
"Sure." You scoot to the middle of the couch. Aisha curls up next to you, tucking her feet in and showing you the cover of the elaborate story book in her lap.
"We used to do this whenever it rained. We'd all snuggle together under blankets and read stories, while we played with the pictures."
Salim reappears with a heavy quilt thrown over one shoulder and a pouch in his hand. He pulls out a pinch of sparkly powder and tosses it into the air before approaching the sofa. "May I?"
You nod and he sits down on your other side. The quilt gets spread across your laps and you find yourself cozily situated between two people absolutely delighted to dote on you.
"Now then," Aisha opens the book and passes it across your lap to Salim, "I think we should start with the one about the seesaw."
He adjusts his glasses and peers through them down at the page with a fond smile. "This one's a favorite. Ahem -"
Aisha raises her hand and the powder floating around the room seems to come alive with a subtle lavender glow. An image of a child and their parent appears, walking hand-in-hand across a grassy, hilly plain. Salim begins to read.
"Once upon a time, a giant built a playground for their little one. There was a slide, a swing set, a sand pit, and most importantly, a seesaw."
Above you, the images move and transform as the story unfolds. The storm lies forgotten behind you, Salim's voice drowning out the thunder, and Aisha's pictures lighting up the overcast room. The blanket and tea fill you with warmth. You fall into a drowsy, happy state, safe with the loving couple giving you a long-lost feeling of home.

Just a thought but I don't think people talk about Asra, Nadia, and Julian playing around in the palace fountain during Nadia's birthday enough. It's so cute and I desperately want to draw it
Anon my friend I am begging you PLEASE DO -
Is it just me or does the Arcana have a consistent theme of "swimming in bodies of water not intended to be swum in" xD

VALERIUS, horrified : “Sir, where did you find this… thing? Did he crawl out of the woods?”
THE PREVIOUS COUNT : “As a matter of fact, he did. He asked for a job, and I was impressed by his boldness.”
VALERIUS : “He just tried to bite a servant!”
LUCIO : “I thought she was gonna steal my garlic bread!”
…I can’t believe that Valerius & Lucio are exes. Talk about “The Odd Couple.”
@aster-spiral-30 I will say that I sometimes do wonder if, in Nadia's upright ending, Lucio eventually gets in touch with Valerius and he finds a way to bring him back to the human realm ...
I mean, it's not breaking Lucio's exile if he's holed up in Valerius's estate outside the city limits, and Valerius would be lying if he said he didn't like some of the worshipful attention he gets these days after losing so much political influence to the Countess ...
