            paige winterbourne was quite literally born to be the next coven leader ( like her mother literally went ‘hmm i’m going to need someone to replace me in the future’ and went and found a random guy to have a child with) and she’s known this since she was young. this kind of expectations, plus the rest of the coven elders constantly watching her, made her become a perfectionist with a fear of failure. in her early days, this made her lash out when she couldn’t do a spell (eg blame someone else for the spell not working, despite her knowing that it’s her) though she started to mellow out once she started to raise twelve year old savannah.

then she was banished from her coven and lost basically her entire identity (along with her home and basically all her possessions when it was fucking lit on fire a few days after she was banished thanks for noTHING KRISTOF)

if she had the means to, would paige ressurect her mother?

If you asked her this any time in the nine months, three weeks and two days after her mothers death, Paige’s answer would have been a resounding YES. She needed her mother, she was struggling, she didn’t know what to do. Becoming the guardian of a traumatised twelve year old as a traumatised twenty-two year old hadn’t been in her plans, neither was being the coven leader at such a young age. Especially when the coven elders didn’t approve of her choices and gods, she felt so LOST!

If Ruth was here, she’d know what to do. If her mother was here, everything would be okay.

Now, though, after everything she’s been through and learned, Paige’s answer has changed. You could call it many things. Growth, moving on from trauma, acceptance of her mothers death. You could call it this, but they weren’t the reason why.

After everything, getting kicked out of the coven (the only reason ruth had a daughter, the whole reason paige was born, was so she would one day lead the coven), getting her home burned down, killing (in defence of her loved ones, sure, but she still used her magic to take a life), leaving, marrying a sorcerer, learning aggressive magic, her connections to the Cortez Cabal, even the way she’s raised Savannah.

Paige couldn’t bring her mother back because she couldn’t handle the idea that her mother would be SO VERY DISAPPOINTED IN HER.

          very brief summary of lucas cortez bc who knows when i’m gonna write his bio.

he’s a lawyer who specialises in helping supernaturals (tho he does do human work too) and often helps them out pro-bono. because of this, he doesn’t often have a lot of money. he loves motorcycles. he’s a sorcerer (which is different from witches in the wotow world, but in tvdu verses he’ll be a witch) and a pretty powerful one, though people often don’t think he is. he has an awkward relationship with his father, absolutely adores his mother, and his older half-brothers hate him. he’s also the chosen heir to a supernatural crime family organisation called a ‘cabal’. specifically the cortez cabal. which is also why his brothers hate him lol. but he’s basically run away from that life and is actively working against the cabals in small ways. he’s also married to paige winterbourne, but that depends on the verses. in verses where they’re not together, they’re still friends and business partners who run the ‘cortez-winterbourne investigations’ company together.
