I think part of what fucks me up about it so bad is that initially I’m like “yeah this is chips pov” but then i fucking read it again and GOD does it hurt so much more as Gillion.

Bc the poem reads in the first bit almost as someone worshipping the other, right? With the “get on your knees” and “forgiving vs violence” and i think Chip would view Gillion as the holy one, hes the chosen one, hes the one that must be worshipped, the one with the power of the seas and the sky at his hand.

BUT. Gillion is the one who knows nothing but worship. Of course he’d want to worship Chip. And he wasnt raised to love, let alone love tenderly. Hes the soldier, the one good at violence, the war-machine. The last good thing that shattered in his hands? The shell phone. Before that? He doesnt even know. Because hes never held anything gently before. Chip has at least held the coin, or ollies hand, and he doesnt break those. But gillion? Gillion was made to break those things- emotional ties, the innocents of the oversea.

The poem is Chip on its surface, but in reality i see it as Gillion and i will deadass do a one by one line analysis of that poem and talk about how it could be either of them, if yall want that

Okay question explain fnc to me cause I don’t get it. It think sure it’s a cute ship but at most as see a qpr (I project really hard onto gillion that I forgot he’s only ace and not canonically aroace)

An opportunity to just completely ramble about fnc and explain all of the reason I love it? Yes please. In this essay I will-

I think a lot of it bases on (and started because of) the kiss from episode 21. It was described as the most genuine and best kiss of either of their lives. Also Chip’s reaction to said kiss is so silly bc like- if your homie kissed you to save your other homie and you didn’t have feelings about homie 1, you probably wouldn’t react that way. But that’s fairly surface level if you ask me.

Also I am a goddamn sucker for symbolism and poeticism and shit and thEY are SO. Where Gillion is a CHOSEN ONE, Chip is just Some Guy. They’re so completely opposite each other in every way. And you know what they say. Gillion is good, in every way that he possibly can be. He is a hero. Chip, on the other hand, is- well it’s a little heavy handed to call him a villain, but he certainly isn’t the best person. He lies, he steals, he acts selfishly. Where he is selfish, Gillion is selfless, and I think that they have a lot to teach each other about each of those things because either one in extremity is dangerous.

But they’re also exactly the same. They’re loyal to a fault, and value people above all else. They’re both reaching for something that they aren’t sure is possible and have a lot of pressures placed on them both from others and from themselves. They both struggle to believe they’re worthy of love. And I think that’s part of what draws me to them so much. They both believe that love is something they have to achieve, something they have to earn. Which, considering their childhoods, yeah. Makes sense. So the idea that loving each other could teach them that they can just exist and still deserve love is sOOOOO absolutely wonderful to me. I love it.

Also, neither of them have a home. At least, not one they can return to right now. Jay will always have Featherbrooke and her mom, even if going back is risky bc of her dad. We saw that in 98. But Chip? His home sank 10 years ago and he’s been looking for it ever since. And Gillion got exiled from his home. He can’t go back. Neither of them have a home, so I think it’d be so sweet and poetic if they found a home within each other. They’ve both definitely found one on the Albatross in canon, but still.

Both of them very much carry these masks. Chip puts in a charismatic and “I’ve got a plan” persona, but he doubts himself and he rarely has a plan and he’s afraid. He’s afraid of a lot of things, and we’re coming to learn more about that. And Gillion plays up the part of being a hero. He’s confident and strong: a protector. But we’ve seen him break. We’ve seen him be afraid and need to lean on someone else. And so the idea of them recognizing each other’s mask and becoming a safe space for the other to be true to themself? Yeah.

Chip is used to running, so the idea of him finding something to stay and fight for? Literally beautiful. And Gillion being given love because of who he is, and not what he is? Same deal. And Chip will fight for Gillion, we’ve seen that a couple dozen times over. And Chip loves Gillion (even if just platonically in canon) because of who Gillion is, not the Chosen One.

They’re just. Mmmmmmm. The same but also opposite and they’re so good for each other because Gillion is teaching Chip to be selfless, and Chip is teaching Gillion that not everything is black and white and that he deserves to be taken care of.

I love FNC in literally any format, including QPR tho so there is that lmao and I will never be the type to shove my opinions onto others and say what is and isn’t right. I may be the fnc guy, but I also love polypirates and swordfish (more as a qpr) and scarlet captains and- you get the idea :3 fandom isn’t about being right, it’s about having fun, and if FNC as a QPR is the most fun for you, then that’s real and valid :D

neither of them are particularly squeamish about it and would squish anything without a second thought. i guess unless it was like some kind of freaky giant radioactive australia bug then fish would probably want to keep it. and he would think theyre insane.

i think for fish it was like. he was the first person they ever really felt like Got it. they click together really well and at the time had very similar worldviews and general approaches to life that i think would make them feel drawn to him. like i think even before everything happened they both had a kind of similar disconnect from other people and it would be kind of exciting to be like ohhhhhhh they just get it. two therians meeting another one for the first time sniffing each other cautiously. and i think its that same kind of thing that keeps them coming back to each other after everything, bcz they both kind of feel like theyre not a part of the world anymore like they arent real tangible people? if that makes sense. except for when theyre around each other. generally when i talk about them its like. theyre each others tether to the Real World basically. theyre the only person who knows his face hes the only one who knows their name. that kind of thing.

🍄 Have your or your F/O pushed each other out of your respective comfort zones at any point?

YES thats kind of their whole thing. b4 everything Happened the fish was like literally just some college student who got into something above their paygrade and he was basically an extension of that adventure, this extremely cool and confident dangerous-seeming older guy who likes guns and smokes and has a cool motorcycle and is involved in this thing that they feel like is ultimately way above their head vis a vis the robot wars. so i think that whole thing is an excercise in being out of their comfort zone. and i think hog is just not the kind of guy to be comfortable with like. emotional intimacy or vulnerability in any sort of way, so when they cant really help but have an extended breakdown its all just sort of. not in his wheelhouse. hes bad at it. neither of them are very good at like talking about their feelings or anything like that anyways so i think any attempt at honesty or even just a sincere admission of affection is just something theyve sort of forgotten how to do over the years.
