🍌does your clan have the four european seasons? if not, why (perhaps your clan is located somewhere where that wouldn’t make sense etc.)? if so, what differences might exist between a stereotypical european season (for example, summer) and your clan’s experience of that season?

The Starflower Sanctuary has a spring or summer climate for longer than the standard European seasons! (from around February to October). The progression of autumn and winter is accelerated, and the switches between seasons tend to be more drastic. There’s also a lot of “micro-seasons” they identify.

I’m going to use our names for months in this explanation, but they actually name most months after the weather/climate that is common in said month (though they do identify 12 months). So January is snow month, February is first growth month, March is winds month, and so on!

Autumn starts sometime after Starfall Celebration due to Plague’s stronger (and uncontested) Sornieth-wide influence in the leadup to Riot of Rot. Then by the time Rockbreaker’s Ceremony comes around, autumn is already very close to its end.

After that are two months of winter, though distinct ones - a cold season due to the lack of sunlight from the Night of the Nocturne, followed by a more stereotypical winter season with ice, frost and snow in the leadup to (and during) Crystalline Gala, once again due to a flight spreading its influence uncontested, this time Ice flight.

By the time that love is in the air, so are some of the pollen - the season has drastically switched and spring has started, though the sunrise and sunset haven’t quite caught up yet, so nights are still relatively long. Beginning of March is when the insects start to appear again. It’s a windy month, followed by April, which is a rainy month.

May is peak of spring, and the air is full of magic from Nature’s growing influence. Then right after Greenskeeper Gathering there tends to be a sudden switch into summer, and sometimes a heatwave. July has a small storm season due to Lightning’s growing influence, then August usually has some sort of (second) heatwave - thank you Fire Flight.

September is a calmer end of summer season, though it’s mostly filled with preparing for the autumn and winter.

And then the cycle starts anew!

Basically, the Starflower Sanctuary’s base season/climate without any elemental influence is peak of spring to start of summer, but it is very susceptible to big elemental influences. So when other flights are spreading their influence unchallenged (aka; when fest pushes happen), this changes the weather and climate in the Sanctuary. This has created a sort-of-seasonal-cycle that it otherwise wouldn’t have, and also makes the weather/climate more volatile. (Big flight battles can influence its weather as well, for example).

Considering they come from a relatively well off family, and their work offers them enough money & resources that they don't ever have to go scavenging, that is probably one of their unusual habits. Ophelia likes to look through all the discarded resources and things to see if there is anything that can still be used, often using recycled material in their projects - turning the most rusted, once worthless piece of metal into something useful or beautiful is not only something they've put a lot of time and effort into learning how to do, but also something they actually pride themself on being able to do. They did use to hide this because of their family, but nowadays it's still not brought up often, but that's because it's become normal for them, rather than something they feel they have to hide.

They do have a somewhat hidden talent for music as well. Though they were encouraged to practice all sorts of "elegant" skills growing up, they didn't actually give practicing music much thought until much much later, a couple years after they had moved out, when they decided to start making music boxes due to a customer commissioning them for one. While many of the tunes used for the music boxes are classic pieces, they are a few (mostly the ones that they keep in their workshop) that play songs they came up with themself.

Also they have a love of birds and one day hope to make beautifully ornate mechanical ones (in HSR, this is in part because they want to help Belabog feel a bit more vibrant and full of life, even if it is mechanical life).

🍉 : which of the four seasons suits my muse best, and why?

Spring. The indomitable nature of life to always seek the chance to grow anew, even after a harsh winter, is very similar to how quietly dedicated, if still hesitant and cautious, Ophelia is when it comes to growing into themself as a person without their family's direct influence on them. There is still the trauma they have to work through, but they remind me of soft spring showers when the sun is still out and it feels as if the universe itself is encouraging things to start growing once again. The idea that there is always a chance for renewal / revival / a chance to start again is both very close to Ophelia as a character, and something they hold closely in their heart.

🍌 : is my muse inclined to help others, or will they only do it when it benefits them, if at all? what makes them this way? has it ever gotten them into trouble, or inconvenienced them?

Very much so, they are always willing to lend a hand to anyone who asks (they do quite a lot of work with Wildfire in Belabog / with the Adventure's Guild in Fontaine), and they have straight up refused compensation at times. This is especially true if they're helping kids, or anyone that just seems to be down on their luck. While they can be a bit stubborn on receiving proper compensation from specific clients (usually rich folk who can more than afford to compensate them for their work / help), they are also perfectly fine with accepting favors instead of money from said people. This in large part due to how they saw their parents interact with people - they refuse to perpetuate a cycle of cruelty caused by apathy and the believe that all work must be paid for in some way. They choose to believe in the good that comes from simply helping others because they want to, or because they don't want someone to end up in a worse position if they refuse to offer a hand. Not to mention, being a mechanic has given them the skills to fix many problems, of course they want to be available to help people solve other problems

This has definitely gotten them into trouble before (never enough for it to be like... a problem, as they've always managed to avoid getting into any trouble with the law that was more than a warning), especially because they sometimes don't pay attention to their own limits when offering to help others. They have especially gotten in trouble with the people who care about them because of pushing themself too hard and giving too much of themself to help other people without taking a break when they need to. This is especially true as Ophelia sometimes forgets to ask for help from others when they need it.

Cape Cod - Banana Fish🍌🐠

Part of the charm of Banana Fish resides in the fact that it is like an epilogue of a story which was never properly told. We readers were invited to watch the final act of a tragedy, guessing what actually happened before, while whoever talks about the past doesn’t know the facts by first hand or, even worse, is an unreliable narrator. (info about unreliable narrator in fiction look up Wiki edit: I removed the link because the post doesn’t show up in the tags).

BF makes plenty use of unreliable narrators in a very sofisticate way. Compare those two fames: 

I am not sure if “that lad” is Ash or Eiji (edit: I checked the Japanese and Dino’s line is “I know he {Ash} is sneaky, I doubled the security as precaution, if there is any suspicious move, the order is to shot and kill immediately) anyway what he said to Arthur is a lie because

Dino’s men still tried to caught Ash alive and wanted to use Eiji as an hostage. They didn’t want to kill either of them unless needed to save their own life. They are clearly still afraid that Dino might get mad at them if they shot the boy. Obviously if they can’t think of a scenario in which they aren’t dead they would try to kill Ash, but otherwise… Dino leaving his residence is suspicious too but I’ll let it for another meta.

Now let’s go back to Cape Cod and Ash’s childhood. I know I am going to repeat some well known facts but bear with me a little and I hope to offer you an interesting prospective with my headcanon.

Ash’s mother left after his birth. She was the kind of woman able to force her way in Jim’s household (she chased off Griffin’s mother) and to leave the place later. Jim may be pathetic but he is straightforward. He shares none of the intelligence nor of the beauty of Ash. Ash must have taken after her. I think Jim was fooled and it should have hurt as hell. And Griffin took care of his brother to help his father to start anew, knowing that Ash was a painful innocent reminder of her. Ash was born on Aug 12th 1968 and Griffin left Cape Cod in 1973 (according to A private opinion). So Griffin left before the Bluebeard case. The newspaper that reported the case was of October 22th 1976 when Aslan was 8.

Judging by the clothes, the first abuse happened in a warm season when Aslan was 7: spring/summer 1976 could be plausible. Not a whole year of abuse then, perhaps only three months.

We know at least of two times in which Jim cared for Ash: he made the Jack-o’-lantern for him (another hint of his Irish heritage?) and dragged him to the police right after he was abused. Ash hasn’t been home since he run away, his father didn’t know he was in NY but Jennifer recognized Ash on the spot and Ash knew who she was and her connection to his father. My conclusion is that she was there at the time of the Bluebeard case too. And let me say that Ash may resent his father because he is a piece of shit but I can’t believe she would have let that happen again and again without taking action: she is quiet but not remissive. Jim lashes out at her but he seems to consider her opinion. The notion of a year of horror and Jim being an unsensitive father is weird, especially if we agree that Jennifer was here too. It can be one of these cases of unreliable narrator.

This is my version of the events:

June or late July 1976. Aslan came back home with evident signs of abuse. His father took him to the police. The abuser is a well known respected man: the child story is hard to believe and suspicion arose. They found out that the child lived on his own and came to the conclusion Jim neglected him, implying he was the abuser, instructed his child to blackmail that poor veteran and turned to the police when the man refused to pay. I bet Jim was flustered and worried at the same time. When he talked to Max in canon he sounds genuinely disgusted by the insinuation that his son could have seduced that man at the age of 7 and it makes perfectly sense if he glossed on them blaming him for that. Back then he planned to send Ash to his sister but somehow it wasn’t possible right away. He kept the child in the house as much as he could, but then school started again, he was still under suspicion of neglecting his son, he couldn’t help but sending him to school. In the meanwhile Ash turned eight. Jim gave the boy that terrible advice: if the worst comes don’t play the hero, make him pay and he will think that there is no need to kill you after. And so Ash did when it happened. Only that that time it felt worse. It worked in a way on the pain, it saved his life for the time being but the man made it clear it wouldn’t have been the last time. Ash was scared, but also wanted revenge, escaping wasn’t enough to him. Children have a stronger sense of justice after all. When his father said he was sending him away he rebelled. Perhaps it was a bad choice of words that made Jim think his son was OK with selling his body, perhaps he thought it was in his genes, since that mother of his was a rotten woman and he had it in his blood. Perhaps he wasn’t sure anymore who his son was. Ash’s rage passed undetected. Jim started badmouthing his son. Next time, when he had a chance, Ash got a gun and shot that man. And Jim felt guilty because he didn’t see it coming. In the end Ash fooled him as his mother in believing something else. Ash’s reputation in the town was ruined and Jim himself had played a role in it. This time he sent his son to his sister, but the boy ran away.

yomi doesn’t want to dress up in anything other than his usual suit and tie even for halloween. despite this marcel still wants to dress up at least somewhat. and then she gets a really funny idea

they proceed to show up with yomi having small stitches painted on him with a little bit of green here and there and marcel with the same costume she has every year. when someone comes to ask, marcel very proudly says: “he’s a zombie!” and forgetting why its only funny to her and nobody else (expect maybe cabanela)

(PRE-GAME) Story: Marcel had gotten a call-in about a mysterious black kitten. It seemed to be without a family or a home, hunting about the park and city for scraps of food or mice and birds. While trying to bathe it, though, it escaped like it was born to be a little escape artist. Marcel was already stubbornly tracking it down, so even when she was told to stay behind, she followed behind to try and find the cat, anyways. Come to find out, a couple days later, the cat's at the park! Marcel goes to find the cat, but.. instead, she comes across a fallen Mino, and a destroyed and crossed off section of the park. She finds the kitty crawling out towards her from a deeper part around the more forest-y area, and takes him back with her for a while, until.. he escapes one day. After that, she doesn't try to find it again, but she remembers the very short nickname she gave it: 'Hollow'. A black cat with yellows eyes? Found in the middle of autumn? It couldn't be more perfect. It sucked that the cat seemed to suddenly not remember her, though, before it left. I imagine she starts meeting others like Lynne and Kamila from them taking in Missile over time. Marcel absolutely LOVES Missile, and thinks he's just the sweetest and bravest little baby. She never really meets Cabanela, at all.. probably unless he needed to take Missile for a wash to cover for Lynne. She doesn't mind him after a while.. this towns full of crazy characters. But that's why she kinda loves it! Over the next few years, this is her same usual routine- other than suddenly meeting a familiar black cat in the arms of a tall, blonde man. She smiles at the sight, even though she doesn't notice that it's a literal dead man walking. Maybe even talks to him for a little while. Everything is normal, mundane.. until the game starts taking place.

i like the idea of yomiel having wheelchair days or cane days. i’m not physically disabled myself, in the slightest, so i’m kind of just winging my ideas, but still. he’s able to walk upright (as shown in the final credits), but still needs a cane. but every now and again his legs won’t do it some days so it’ll be a wheelchair day.

anyways yes he has hit me with the cane several times like an old man. yes i have ran at full speeds with the wheelchair before upon request.
