A caretaker is a headmate whose role or job is to take care of other alters or the system or body as a whole. They may guide headmates, watch over them, spend time with them, or help them in other ways, and/or they may take care of the system as a whole by taking care of the body. They frequently are associated with littles and trauma holders but this is not exclusive.

The reds are for the harsh emotions or tough situations caretakers may have to help with. The lighter red and the pink are for the care they provide. The grayed out colors are for dissociation in general.

A protector is an alter that protects the system, whether emotionally, physically, sexually, socially, or any other way. They may front to protect the body from physical harm or mental harm, they may protect headmates from other alters, or any sort of threat.

They may help the caretaker's carees, help take care of the body, or just help with whatever the caretaker does. If a caretaker can be described as 'acting as a parent,' then a CTC can be described as 'acting as the oldest sibling.'

The flag is a brighter version of our caretaker flag, the reds for tough emotions or situations, the pinks for providing care, and the grays for dissociation.

An Explanation of my 'Alter Age' Symbols!

Okay, so, obviously alters are still the same age as the body. 'Alter age' doesn't truly exist, an 'adult' alter in a minor system is still a minor, a little in an adult system is still an adult, et cetera.

My 'age' flags directly correlate to both the labels of 'little/middle' and mental age. They're very nuanced, I don't think there's really a wrong way to use them as long as you understand that the age of the body is what's important.

That being said!

1: Mentally young OR use the term little ─ milk bottle

2: Mentally teenaged OR use the term middle ─ soda

3: Mentally adult OR use the term 'adult alter' ─ tea

4: Both 1 and 3 (immature adult, mature little) ─ hot cocoa

5: Both 2 and 3 (teen-acting adult, mature middle) ─ coffee

6: Both 1 and 2 (teen-acting little, immature middle) ─ juice
