Jealousy is a violent beast. How many times will I have to witness you and Judas gooey-eyed, some act of laughter that I know is false coming from your broken mouth. Soulmate resides in the purple mist, not in OUR boy. The one we vowed to protect since the moment we first laid eyes on him. Picked him up from the wreckage, his flesh tearing into cosmic patchwork. Screams of grief that only our arms could comfort. These blood-stained hands promising to never hurt a hair on his corrupted head. Nobody will touch him again. Not the Void. Not Trust. Not Fate. Not some fucking pretty boy cunt who should be more concerned about his kiddo, than swooning Judas.
So, leading you out to the darkness was easy, Leon. Some word about Judas and you scampered with lion's curls in obedience. Now you're here, with your big blues and questioning what I wanted. What I want? I want Him.
It takes a curled fist a moment to reach back, before slamming into the angelic bridge of your nose. You are pretty, I'll admit it. But you're broken. You're a mess. Your priority will always side with Maverick. You think I would even give you the opportunity to put Judas Second? An Unholy Trinity is exactly what me, Nanuq and Judas need to be. And that shit doesn't need to concern you. Not anymore. Escape the path of Synthization. Of this universal domination. It ain't no place for soft-southern cubs in a den of feral dogs.
I think of Him. And I'll punch you again. Judas. Another hit against your cheekbone. Judas. Another rabid fist into the side of your temple. Seeing blood splatter over the black. Feeling it paint against my knuckles.
"First and last fuckin' warnin', -" I'll punch against your gut now. Sensation of my bone meeting the marrow of your ribs mouth-watering. "Leave. 'Cause if ya don't, it won't just be his Mama y'boy mourns."

The Last-Minute Sci-Fi Gift Guide
There's only one thing worse than procrastinating on getting gifts for your loved ones, and that's procrastinating on putting together a guide to help out everyone else with all those gifts. It's Dec 12, so you can decide for yourself which I'm doing.
Tumblr media
Art book: Worlds Beyond Time, $32
If you follow this blog, you might have heard of this one. I published Worlds Beyond Time: Sci-Fi Art of the 1970s this year after five years of work on it, and I think it's really good! 400+ images, 100+ artists, with lots of fun art history and jokes.
Also, it's just $20 right now if you order through my publisher and use the code SKIPTHELINE! Cheapest it's ever been!
Tumblr media
Card game: Coup, $14
In this "social deduction" card game, you play as a government official in a future dystopia who needs to backstab their way into power. Everyone starts out with just two cards in this bluffing game, so the tide can turn pretty quick when players start assassinating each other's cards. The fast pace makes it a good gift for someone who loves spies but thinks they don't like card games.
Tumblr media
Game to play over Zoom: Bad Spaceships, $3
If a bluffing game stresses you out, try Bad Spaceships: It's a collaborative world-building game in which you roll dice to see what area of your spaceship connects to another, forcing you to spitball exactly why this is the case. As the game puts it, you might fix the hull by playing Tetris, or charge your weapons in the swimming pool. You're basically getting weird prompts to tell a story that can evolve over the course of the game.
It's such an indie game that it comes as PDFs you download from itch.io, but you can play it just as well over Zoom, if you're looking for an excuse to catch up with your old digital nomad college friend.
Tumblr media
Movies/TV: Streaming service gift card
Gift cards are all well and good, but you can personalize them by recommending a few of your favorite shows as well. I suggest:
Hulu: Cowboy Bebop
Apple TV+: Severance
Criterion Channel: Ravenous, Paprika, Strange Days
Paramount+: Yellowjackets
Amazon Prime: The Devil's Hour
But to be honest, this entry is just an excuse to talk about the new Max show Scavenger’s Reign. Inspired by the work of French artist Moebius and with a clear debt to famed 70s animated film Fantastic Planet, this stylish sci-fi show features a bunch of humans trying to survive on a beautiful but hostile alien world. Perfect for lovers of fictional nature.
Tumblr media
Vintage sci-fi
This Etsy shop has some good stuff, like the 1971 Frank Kelly Freas NASA poster above, a bit of history that I even mentioned on page 167 of my art book.
Tumblr media
Penguin science fiction postcards, $28
These postcards have a ton of very cool sci-fi covers I've blogged in the past – great value if you want a lot of art for a low cost.
Tumblr media
Meteorite pendant necklace, $34
I think we all know what kind of rock your loved ones need around their neck: A chunk of meteorite straight out of the 1576 Argentinan meteorite fall.
Tumblr media
Book recs
For astronauts: Packing for Mars by Mary Roach, The New Guys: The Historic Class of Astronauts That Broke Barriers and Changed the Face of Space Travel by Meredith Bagby
For comedians: Gideon the Ninth by Tamsyn Muir, Even Greater Mistakes: Short Stories by Charlie Jane Anders
For sleuths: Six Wakes by Mur Lafferty, Drunk on All Your Strange New Words by Eddie Robson
For crafters: Knits of Tomorrow: Toys and Accessories for your Retro-Future Needs
For the resistance fighters: The Light Brigade by Kameron Hurley, An Unkindness of Ghosts by Rivers Solomon
For slasher movie fans: Clown in a Cornfield by Adam Cesare
Tumblr media
Syd Mead "Biomorph Vehicle" button down shirt, $49
T-shirts aren't classy enough for the world's coolest visual futurist, Syd Mead. I haven't actually bought this incredibly odd shirt, but I really need to.
Tumblr media
Art prints (and more) from 70s sci-fi artists
Artist shops can be surprisingly hard to track down on the internet, but here's a short list of ones I've come across. All of these artists are featured in my book (except one), so you can read up on them before you commit to a print.
Michael Whelan
John Harris
Syd Mead
Don Maitz
David B Mattingly
Peter Andrew Jones - Jones was one of just a few artists who declined to be included in my art book, but he has a distinct, colorful style that I would have loved to have featured!
Finally, here's one extra bonus, just for everyone who made it to the end of this article: The UK-based educational charity Centre for Computing History sells three big officially licensed John Harris posters featuring these three artworks, famous for their use as covers for Sinclair programming manuals.
Tumblr media
It's a great deal that I've never seen mentioned anywhere, and Harris' work has a timeless quality that makes it great for an unassuming wall decoration. If you're outside the UK, the shipping costs will be a pain, but there's no better deal for a classic sci-fi poster.

Could you write an Alfie x Reader where they are soulmates in which when ones skin is marred (wounds, tattoos, that kind of thing), and Y/n is always in pain and getting tattoos she never wanted because of her soulmate getting into fights. This makes her angry with the man she never met. You can choose how this ends :p
Soulbound Scars (Soulmate AU) (Alfie Solomons x Fem!Reader) ONESHOT (request)
Tumblr media
(UNEDITED)
Pairing: Alfie Solomons x Fem!Reader
Word Count: 4028
Warnings: getting punched in the face 💀 Summary: (The request) A/N: This was acutally a really cute request, I had to write it!
In the gritty heart of Camden town's unforgiving underworld, Alfie Solomons reigned supreme as a feared and formidable gang leader. He was intimately acquainted with the relentless brutality that defined the streets he called home. His life was an unrelenting maelstrom of conflict and power struggles, a ceaseless cycle that left behind a haunting tapestry of scars and pain, etched into both his flesh and his very soul. The very essence of his existence was a testament to the harsh, unyielding reality of his world.
But in the midst of this brutal world, there existed another figure, shrouded in mystery, whose existence was inextricably tied to Alfie's in a most enigmatic way. Y/n, a woman of quiet strength and boundless empathy, bore an unusual burden. She was, in every sense, Alfie's counterpart, linked to him by a connection that defied explanation. They were soulmates, united by an unbreakable bond that allowed them to experience each other's pain, scars, and life's trials.
Y/n's life in Camden Town was far from ordinary. She was a young woman who struggled to secure employment in a society that had little regard for her gender, and the ever-present physical toll her body bore. Her skin was adorned with an intricate mosaic of tattoos, scars, and bruises, yet these marks were not the result of her actions. Rather, they were a reflection of Alfie's turbulent existence, a testament to his unending battles and ceaseless struggles.
As Y/n walked down the crowded streets of Camden Town, she couldn't help but feel the weight of judgmental glances upon her. Her face, adorned with an assortment of bruises and cuts, was a testament to the unspoken battles she fought daily. Every step she took was accompanied by a barrage of side-eyed glances, a mixture of curiosity, concern, and, unfortunately, condemnation.
The passersby, with their fleeting gazes and murmured comments, couldn't comprehend the enigmatic tapestry of pain that adorned her skin. Some showed empathy, recognizing the silent cries for help etched into her features. Others, less understanding, chose to avert their eyes or exchanged hushed words of gossip.
Y/n's path through the bustling streets was a journey marked not only by the physical toll on her body but also by the constant scrutiny of a world that judged without knowing the depth of her struggle. Yet, she persevered, refusing to let the unforgiving stares deter her from navigating the complex tapestry of her life.
Amid the relentless scrutiny she endured while walking the streets of Camden Town, Y/n faced another layer of her unique predicament. Not only was her face a canvas of bruises and cuts, but her body was further adorned with intricate, mysterious tattoos that she had no control over. These tattoos covered her arms in a vivid tapestry of ink, each mark a stark reminder of Alfie's tumultuous life.
The abundance of tattoos left Y/n with a wardrobe of clothing choices that were constrained by the need to conceal the enigmatic symbols etched upon her skin. She would carefully select long-sleeved shirts, even during the warmest days, to hide the visual evidence of her connection to this mysterious man she share her soul with. It was a constant battle between the desire to blend in and the ever-present reality of the inked tapestry beneath her clothing.
Nights were another challenge altogether. Y/n would often wake up, feeling an all-too-familiar sensation of itching along her arms, only to discover the presence of yet another tattoo. These markings appeared as if Alfie's struggles and battles were transferred onto her very skin while she slept. Each morning, she faced the daunting task of examining the new additions, each telling a story of violence and turmoil.
The combination of her conspicuous injuries and the ever-multiplying tattoos made Y/n a walking enigma, a living testament to the strange connection she shared with Alfie. As she navigated the judgmental streets, it was as though her entire existence was a riddle waiting to be unravelled, leaving Y/n isolated in a world that couldn't begin to comprehend the complexities of her situation.
In an era where the challenges of being a woman were already formidable, Y/n's unique circumstances made her life exponentially more difficult. The inherent bias and inequality that women faced were amplified by her conspicuous appearance, which seemed to carry the weight of an even greater burden.
The mere act of stepping out into the unforgiving world became an ordeal, where she had to navigate a labyrinth of prejudice and stereotypes. It was an era where gender roles were strictly defined, and women were expected to conform to society's expectations. Y/n, however, was anything but conventional.
Her path was marred not only by the physical marks that adorned her face and body but also by the constant whispers and judgments that followed her like a shadow. The way she looked challenged the societal norms of the time, rendering her an outlier in an environment that preferred conformity.
Y/n's resilience was undeniable. To stand out in a world that sought to stifle her, to bear the physical and emotional scars of a life she never asked for, took a courage that surpassed the ordinary. Despite the world's judgmental gaze and its relentless attempts to stifle her spirit, Y/n remained determined to carve her own path, defying the limitations placed upon her by society, and, most notably, the mysterious connection she shared with this rebel.
Y/n had never come face to face with the man, but an undeniable aversion had taken root deep within her. It was a visceral sensation, a loathing that had no rational explanation but ran through her like a vein of unyielding steel.
Y/n's life had been intricately woven with the presence of a man she had never met, and the intensity of her feelings toward him was palpable. While the connection between their souls was undeniable, she remained in the dark about his identity, an enigma that both frustrated and intrigued her.
The absence of a face, a name, or any defining feature to attach her emotions to only fueled her disdain. She couldn't help but loathe the man who had unknowingly brought a cascade of chaos into her existence. It was as if her life had been entangled with his in a relentless dance of pain and suffering, and she had been given no choice in the matter.
The absence of answers, and the inability to pinpoint the source of her torment, was a constant source of frustration. Her heart was burdened by the knowledge that there was a soulmate out there, somewhere, who held the key to her mysterious existence.
Yet, despite the resentment and the ambiguity of it all, there was a peculiar undercurrent of curiosity that lingered within her. She couldn't help but wonder about the man who was the silent orchestrator of her suffering, yearning to understand the intricacies of their shared connection and the profound impact it had on her life.
-
On an overcast afternoon in Camden Town, Y/n was strolling down the bustling streets, her steps guided by a peculiar yet undeniable pull. She'd been to Camden countless times, weaving through the vibrant marketplace, but today was different. A magnetic sensation drew her towards a particular establishment she'd often passed without a second thought.
The bar, a dimly lit, weathered haunt tucked away in an inconspicuous corner, beckoned her like a siren's call. Its façade was adorned with faded neon signs and a slightly cracked window, offering a glimpse of a cosy interior where the hum of conversation mingled with the distant strum of a guitar.
Without knowing why, Y/n found herself standing in front of the entrance, the tattered awning casting a shadow over her features. Her heart raced, her curiosity piqued. It was as if an invisible hand guided her, a force she couldn't resist.
She pushed the weathered door open and stepped inside, the scent of aged wood and alcohol enveloping her senses. The bar was a time capsule, frozen in an era of dimly lit intimacy, a stark contrast to the chaotic streets outside. It was a place where stories were etched into every surface, where secrets were shared over drinks, and where the past seemed to linger in every corner.
Amid the dimly lit interior of the bar, Y/n's footsteps were guided by an inexplicable force, leading her toward a specific corner that seemed to beckon her with an eerie allure. It was as if an unseen hand had gently pushed her in that direction, while an electric sensation sent shivers down her spine.
In that corner, bathed in a faint, golden glow of a solitary overhead lamp, sat a large, bearded man. His hulking presence was accentuated by a formidable frame that seemed to fill the space around him. A thick, grizzled beard covered most of his face, and a distinctive porkpie hat crowned his head.
The room around her faded into a distant murmur as she locked eyes with the mysterious figure. There was an air of enigma that surrounded him, an aura of intrigue that had lured her to this very spot. His gaze, beneath the shadow of his hat, was intense and penetrating, as if he had been waiting for her all along.
The atmosphere in that corner of the bar felt pregnant with significance, as though their destinies were inexorably entwined. Y/n stood there, captivated by the presence of the bearded man, and the unspoken connection between them seemed to hum with an undeniable, almost magnetic force.
As Y/n stood there, locked in the intense gaze of the bearded man with the porkpie hat, a profound realization washed over her. It was as if time had come to a standstill, and the world around them had faded into insignificance. The magnetic force that had drawn her to this corner of the bar, the inexplicable connection she had felt, was crystallizing before her eyes.
The bearded man's eyes, beneath the shadow of his hat, held a gaze so intense that it seemed to pierce through her very soul. In those deep, penetrating eyes, Y/n saw a reflection of the same enigmatic pull she had felt, an electric connection that transcended reason.
At that moment, their souls seemed to align, and she knew, without a shadow of a doubt, that this man was her soulmate. It wasn't a matter of mere coincidence or chance. It was a profound connection, one that had bound them together long before they had even met.
As the realization dawned, the bearded man's mesmerized expression mirrored her own astonishment. The unspoken recognition between them was palpable, a bridge of understanding that needed no words. It was as if the universe itself had orchestrated this meeting, a fateful collision of two souls destined to be together.
In the hushed corner of the bar, amid the dim light and the enigmatic atmosphere, Y/n and her newfound soulmate shared a moment of silent, mutual acknowledgement. It was a moment of clarity, an epiphany that transcended the boundaries of time and place, and in that moment, their souls danced to the same rhythm, forever united by an unbreakable bond.
As the profound realization of their soulmate connection washed over them, the bearded man with the porkpie hat rose from his seat with a deliberate, almost reverent slowness. His movements were graceful, as though he were stepping onto sacred ground, each step bringing him closer to the enigmatic woman who had walked into his life like a long-lost melody.
Y/n, too, was not to be outdone by the gravity of this moment. Her heart raced as she felt an irresistible force drawing her toward the bearded man. With determined strides, she marched up to him, her eyes locked onto his, and her pace unyielding. The world around them seemed to dissolve into an indistinct blur, leaving only the two of them in the spotlight of destiny.
The onlookers in the bar could sense that something extraordinary was unfolding before their eyes, a connection that transcended the ordinary boundaries of time and space. It was as if they were witnessing the reunion of two souls that had been apart for an eternity.
Despite the magnetic and mesmerizing connection between Y/n and the bearded man, there was still a torrent of emotions that coursed through her. The hatred she had harboured for him, fueled by the inexplicable nature of their soulmate connection, surged within her.
Without warning, as the bearded man stood before her, Y/n's anger and frustration reached a boiling point. With a sudden, fierce motion, she swung her fist and landed a forceful punch squarely on the man's nose. The impact was a resounding blow, a manifestation of her pent-up emotions.
As her fist connected with the man's nose, the shockwaves of pain cascaded through their interconnected souls. Y/n felt not only the force of her own punch but also the searing pain of her soulmate's nose as if it were her own. The sensation was overwhelming, a shared agony that transcended the boundaries of their individual experiences.
In the dimly lit corner of the bar, their connection was brought to the forefront, not only in the inexplicable recognition of their bond but also in the shared pain they now bore. Y/n's actions were a culmination of the complex emotions that had swirled within her, and the bearded man, bewildered and in pain, held his nose, the realization of their unique connection etched into every facet of their beings.
The bar's patrons were taken aback as a young woman made her entrance, her presence exuding an air of defiance that seemed to defy explanation. The audacious act of punching the formidable gang leader in the face sent shockwaves through the establishment, where the norm was to avoid eye contact with such a powerful figure.
A collective gasp seemed to hang in the air as the punch landed, and the aggressive gang leader was rocked by the force of the unexpected blow. The room fell into a hushed silence, the dimly lit atmosphere amplifying the intensity of the moment. The patrons exchanged bewildered glances, their expressions torn between concern and curiosity.
"That's for not fucking taking care of yourself, you bloody asshole!" Y/n screamed at the man, the words laced with frustration, her own blood trickling from her injured nose. Her emotions had finally found an outlet, and they erupted in a torrent of anger and pain.
The gang leader, despite the hit he had just taken, managed to crack a grin and release a hearty laugh, the sudden absurdity of the situation not lost on him. ”Fucking ‘ell.”
His amusement, although unexpected, seemed to shift the tension in the room, eliciting a mixture of uncertain chuckles from some of the patrons.
"You pack quite a fucking punch, don't you, dear?" The bearded man remarked, his voice a mixture of amusement and respect as if he had gained a newfound appreciation for the fiery spirit that resided within the young woman who had just rocked his world.
"Yeah, I can feel that," Y/n replied, her voice laced with a hint of sarcasm, although her nose throbbed with an intensity that mirrored the exchange of emotions and pain they were sharing. The connection between them was undeniable, transcending the physical and into the realm of something far more profound. As they stood there, two souls locked in a complex dance of emotions, the world around them seemed to fade into the background, leaving only the enigmatic connection that bound them together.
"Let's get out of here, yeah?" her soulmate suggested, his words carrying an unspoken urgency as if they were drawn together by a force that extended beyond the confines of the bar.
"What's your name, las’?" he asked, a faint smile playing at the corners of his mouth.
"Y/n," she replied, her own lips curving into a hesitant yet genuine smile. It was a simple exchange of names, but at that moment, it felt like the beginning of a new chapter in their intertwined destinies.
"Alfie," the man introduced himself, the weight of his name now matched by the weight of their shared connection.
Y/n offered a small nod, a sense of relief washing over her. Finally knowing the name of the man who had unintentionally been putting her through a rollercoaster of emotions brought a strange comfort. The enigmatic puzzle pieces of their lives were beginning to fall into place, even if it meant navigating an uncertain and unconventional path together.
"Sorry 'bout the..." Y/n began, her voice trailing off as she lifted her hand and mimicked a small punching motion to indicate the earlier altercation.
Her soulmate chuckled, his eyes crinkling at the corners as he understood the gesture. "No need to apologize, love," he said, his voice tinged with warmth. “I probably deserved that.”
"Yeah! You fucking well deserved it, you've made my life a living hell!" Y/n exclaimed, her laughter ringing with a mixture of relief and exasperation. The absurdity of the situation seemed to dawn on her as she continued, "No one's gonna hire a woman who looks like she's getting beaten every other day, and don't even get me started on these bloody tattoos." Her words were a blend of frustration and humour, a testament to the unique challenges she had faced due to her mysterious connection with Alfie.
Alfie couldn't help but join in her laughter, his own laughter resonating with the understanding of the bizarre reality they had been thrust into. "Well, you certainly don't mince your words, love," he remarked with a grin, finding an unexpected camaraderie in the woman who had just punched him in the face. It was as if, in that moment, their shared experiences and shared pain had forged a connection that transcended their initial animosity.
"Well, looking like you, you could imagine why," Y/n replied with a wry smile, her gaze shifting from her own scars and bruises to Alfie's imposing figure. It was a moment of shared understanding, a recognition that their connection had created a unique bond, neither one had anticipated.
"Well, you can work for me if you'd like," Alfie offered, his smile carrying a mixture of genuine kindness and a touch of playfulness. It was an unexpected proposition, given their tumultuous introduction, but it seemed to fit the absurdity of their situation perfectly.
Y/n raised an eyebrow, the offer taking her by surprise. "Work for you? Doing what, exactly?"
"Well, I could always use a secretary," Alfie mused, a spontaneous idea forming in his mind.
Y/n arched an eyebrow, considering the offer. "Is it legal?" she asked, her practicality coming to the forefront.
"Does it really matter?" Alfie replied with a sly smirk, his eyes dancing with amusement. The legality of the situation seemed to be a secondary concern in the face of their newfound partnership, and the unconventional offer only added to the intrigue of the strange and extraordinary connection they now shared.
They halted just outside the building, its imposing exterior betraying the secrecy that lay within. Alfie held the heavy door open, allowing Y/n to step inside.
"What is this place?" Y/n inquired, her gaze scanning the interior with curiosity.
Alfie hesitated for a moment before he answered with a cryptic smile, "My bakery."
As Y/n took in the surroundings, it became evident that it was far from being a conventional bakery. The heady scent of spirits and the sight of distilling equipment told a different story. It was a distillery, hidden beneath the facade of a bakery, and it held the promise of adventures, secrets, and perhaps a partnership that defied expectations.
Alfie guided her through the labyrinthine distillery, the aroma of spirits filling the air as they navigated the maze of barrels and machinery. Eventually, they reached his office, where he motioned for Y/n to take a seat on a well-worn couch. With a nod, he disappeared briefly to retrieve something from his desk.
Seated in his office, Y/n felt a sense of anticipation and curiosity. The air was heavy with the secrets held within the distillery's walls, and she couldn't help but wonder what lay ahead.
As Alfie busied himself, Y/n decided to shed her heavy jacket, the worn leather falling to the floor. It revealed the intricate tapestry of tattoos that adorned her arms and shoulders, each one a testament to the shared pain and connection she had with Alfie. Her short-sleeved dress showcased the artwork etched into her skin, a silent testament to the unique bond they shared and the scars that painted their lives.
Alfie returned to the room, a low, appreciative whistle escaping his lips as his eyes traced the intricate tattoos that adorned Y/n's arms. "Nice tattoos," he remarked, a playful lilt in his voice.
Y/n couldn't help but smirk in response. "Yeah, you're a real artist, aren't you?" Her words held a teasing quality, a recognition of the shared journey they were embarking upon.
Their banter, filled with humour and unspoken understanding, seemed to define the beginning of their unique partnership. It was a partnership that transcended the ordinary, rooted in the inexplicable connection they had discovered, and the world outside the distillery seemed to fade into insignificance as their shared adventure began.
Alfie returned with a bowl of water and a small towel, his actions reflecting a surprising tenderness. He dipped the cloth into the water, wringing it out slightly before approaching Y/n. Gently, he began to wipe away the dried blood that clung above her lip, his touch careful and considerate.
Y/n watched him silently, a mix of emotions swirling within her. The contrast between the fearsome gang leader she had initially encountered and this side of him, which displayed care and concern, was stark and intriguing. The unspoken bond they shared was revealing itself in unexpected ways, forging a connection that transcended their tumultuous introduction.
"Thanks," Y/n whispered, her voice laced with a hint of gratitude as Alfie continued to clean the dried blood from her face.
Alfie rose from his seat, a soft smile playing at his lips as he emptied the bowl, the remnants of their shared pain vanishing with the crimson-stained water. With a quick swipe, he also cleaned the blood that had found its way into his beard.
Y/n leaned back on the couch, a glimmer of curiosity in her eyes. "So... when do I start work?" she inquired, her tone a mixture of anticipation and eagerness as if she was ready to embark on this new and unconventional chapter of her life.
Alfie paused for a moment, his gaze lingering on her before he answered, his words carrying a sense of excitement. "Tomorrow work for you?" The invitation was met with a nod from Y/n, and the distillery office seemed to brim with the promise of shared adventures, unspoken secrets, and a partnership that was forged in the most peculiar of circumstances.
-
And so, as they embarked on this unique story together, Y/n and Alfie found themselves bound not only by shared pain but by a connection that defied explanation. Their partnership, born from an unconventional introduction, took them through the labyrinthine world of the distillery and the tumultuous streets of Camden town.
In each other, they discovered not just an understanding of the scars and bruises that marked their bodies, but a shared resilience and strength that allowed them to navigate a world where the boundaries between pain and pleasure, danger and intrigue, blurred into something altogether extraordinary.
As they ventured into the uncharted territory of their newfound partnership, the scars that painted their lives, and the enigmatic connection that bound them together seemed to promise a future filled with unexpected adventures, challenges, and perhaps, a love that transcended the ordinary. The pain they shared had given birth to an extraordinary bond, one that would forever unite their souls in the chaos of Camden town.
- A/N: Had absolutely no idea how to end this off but I'm happy with what I've written. I hope you enjoyed this one-shot as much as I enjoyed writing it. I know they didn't interact much until the end but...it's still cute maybe Don't know how they wanted me to write this request but I hope they're happy. But keep requesting as I really enjoy them. :) 💚

The Song Each Character Jams To
Whenever this song plays, the brother is singing along to it.
Lucifer: Save The Last Dance For Me - Michael Buble
The moment he hears it, he’s singing along softly and grabbing your hands to dance with you. You laugh as you’re swept up into the moment. He dips you and he spins you and you can’t help but love when he indulges himself like this.
Mammon: Uptown Funk - Mark Ronson Ft Bruno Mars
He’s busting a move at the first note. It’s so joyful and exuberant you can’t help but join in. You shout the ‘hallelujah’ when he points to you. You’re both laughing and moving to the music as he puffs up in pride.
Leviathan: All Star - Smash Mouth
There’s no song more meme-y and iconic. You are both instantly belting out the lyrics and dancing (somewhat badly) and then making far too many Shrek references.
Satan: Faith - George Michael
You’re surprised this is the one Satan prefers to jam out to, but as you listen to the lyrics it makes a bit sense. The POV is about wanting someone, but also being worried about giving it all away. Contrast and the tone aloof. What’s really fun is when Satan starts jamming out, Asmo also joins and then it’s a small party with the three of you.
Asmodeus: KISS - Voiceplay Cover (Original by Prince)
Asmo actually has a whole list he will jam out to. ‘Girls Just Wanna Have Fun’, ‘Sexy Naughty Bitchy Me’. It’s a whole playlist. But this one grooves him like none other. He’s singing along with every line as he dances. He’ll pull the nearest person into a dance with him (most of them complying- you especially).
Beelzebub:  Carry Out - Timbaland
Beel loves the song despite making him extremely hungry. He hasn’t quite caught on that it’s a sex jam and thinks it’s about loving fast food. He gets closer to figuring it out every time he sings it.
Belphegor: Stars - Switchfoot
He doesn’t really get up and dance, but he’s tapping his foot and softly singing along. He’s too tired to ‘jam’ like everyone else. And the song is rather introspective and speaks of star gazing; his favorite thing. And the smile he makes when he sings this is so beautiful.
Solomon: I Got The Magic In Me - B.o.B. featuring Rivers Cuomo
Solomon is a cheeky bastard and he loves performing spells while singing along to this song. Especially when the movements of the spell can be dance like. It’s a delight to watch him perform and he loves how you cheer him on.
Simeon: Shut Up & Dance With Me - Walk The Moon
The moment the song is on, Simeon’s grabbed your hands and you’re dancing. It’s one of his favorite songs from the Human Realm. The bright angelic smile on his face as you sing with him is as beautiful as him and you giggle when Luke joins in.
Luke: Eye To Eye - Tevin Campbell
You watched the movie with him and this song became his favorite. You, Simeon, and Solomon join him in singing and dancing to this song. Luke likes to pretend he’s Powerline with the rest of you as backup dancers. Asmo has a video of the PH hall fam performing while you belt out the background singing.
Barbatos: Walking On Broken Glass - Annie Lennox
He doesn’t instantly start dancing, but he is singing and moving his body in a ‘dance-like’ fashion as he cleans and tends to his duties. You join in the song and at the end, he picks you up and spins you like John Malcovich does to Annie.
Diavolo: Mambo No.5 - Lou Bega
You introduced this to him. It’s your fault Barbatos has heard this song over 50 times this year. You take full responsibility as you belt the lyrics out alongside Diavolo and shuffle-dance around the floor with the prince loud enough you’re worried you’ll wake his dad from wherever he’s sleeping. Still. It’s too fun a song to not to jam to and you don’t feel a bit of remorse. Well. Until Barbatos gets his revenge with you later.

Alone... (Brothers x MC!) (Angst)
.
Summary: How did you end up here again?
.
.
.
Spoilers for Nightbringer lesson 11 and all of the original game.
.
.
.
.
.
.
.
Honestly, I like Belphie and Lucifer, but I'm getting real tired of their bullshit.
.
"That was close..."
It wasn't until you heard Solomon's voice that you realized you had been squeezing your eyes shut.
You opened them slowly and peered around the room.
There was Belphie, standing behind a pile of rubble that managed not to land on him. Out of the corner of your eye you saw Solomon as he walked up to your side.
Everything had happened so quickly. You hadn't even had a moment to breathe a sigh of relief that you'd managed to put Beelzebub to sleep before anything truly bad happened, before Lucifer was in you face.
"Are you our enemy?"
Your entire body had gone cold as the hurt set in.
How? How is it that after everything, everything you've done for him and his brothers could he even think to ask that question? A part of you was hoping that he would smile and say it was all a joke, but he had just stared at you, expecting an answer.
You don't remember the exact words you used but you had tried to assure him that you weren't. And for a moment, it seemed like it had worked as Mammon and Levi and Asmo had jumped to your defense.
But then Belpegor had opened his mouth.
Now, Solomon and Belphie were arguing and you heard your teacher mention something about ganging up on a human, but really it was so much worse than that.
"...ys end up here." You don't know how your tiny voice, barely a whisper had made it across the room, but Lucifer looked up at you, that cold expression still marring his features. "What?"
You took a deep breath, balling your hands into fists that dug your nails into your palms and kept your gaze trained on the floor.
"I said..." you began, "how do we always end up here?!"
You lifted your head, angry tears wetting your cheeks and sent a glare around the room.
Lucifer sighed in annoyance, his voice still strained in anger. "Human, if you’re not going to make any sense-"
Human. You hated that word. They used it to look down at you, to remind you that you were less than them.
"It happened again." You ground out. Showing your anger felt good, especially since you had held it in before for the sake of this family. This fucking family who only hurt you again and again.
"Again, Belphegor tried to kill me, and again you all just stood there and let it happen." You heard Solomon's voice behind you, saying your name in warning, but you ignored him. You knew somewhere inside of you that you should be worried about breaking the timeline, but you couldn't muster up the energy to care.
This time Solomon had been here to save you, but back then you had nobody. And it still hurt worse than you had ever let yourself acknowledge.
It was Mammon who broke the silence first. "What're ya talkin' about?"
It didn't matter that he didn't know. The floodgates were open and you were going to say everything you had to say. Perhaps it was only because you didn't have the history with these brothers that you were finally able to let it come pouring out.
"I have given you everything, and I have helped you through every tiny problem you've had!" You threw your hands in the air. "And so many of them have been so completely stupid!"
The blank stares from the demons around the room only served to fuel the anger burning inside of you.
"Again and again, I have had to prove that I am worthy to stand beside you, first when I had to bow and scrape just to be your friend, then with Solomon's stupid tests, and then with your fucking games to get onto the student council!"
Your arms fell to your side and you felt all the fight leave you. "It's just never going to be enough is it?" You were surprised at how small your voice sounded. "I'm always going to have to be the one to apologize first, to forgive you even when you have done nothing to make ammends, and yet I just keep loving you, feeling like such a fool-"
You broke off. Did you love them? Was this love truly your own? Or was it just the blood running through your veins. You couldn't even answer such a simple question. You slumped to your knees
"Eight of the most powerful demons in the realm, and you can't even stop the weakest among you." You heard Belphie try to say something in protest, but he was silenced by Mammon's elbow digging harshly into his side.
The the four eldest brothers present stood around the room in solemn silence. Something itched at the back of their mind, a memory that wasn't quite there. They knew they should remember why you were so important to them, but everytime they reached for it, it it just slipped through their fingers. And what was worse was that they could feel your pain, pouring through a connection that was barely even there.
Surpringly, it was Lucifer who broke the silence, something akin to regret coating his voice. "MC, I-"
But Solomon had heard enough. Gently he pulled you to your feat, wrapping an arm around your shoulder to hold you close.
"I hope you all remember this," he said quietly. "I hope that you remember this far, far in the future, and I hope that it hurts."
And with that he teleported you both away.

The Afterparty
Author's Note: The basic idea is that instead of thinking about going to the dance, MC decides to plan this event instead. I like associating songs with different characters and thought it would be fun to imagine a concert where those songs would be performed/covered.
MIDNIGHT CONCERT AT THE FALL
DOORS OPEN AT ELEVEN
FEATURING THE EXILES
۞۞۞
SETLIST
Hellraiser by Ozzy Osbourne
You Give Love a Bad Name by Bon Jovi (Blue)
Bloody Mary by Lady Gaga (Purple)
For Your Entertainment by Adam Lambert (Light Blue)
VOID by Melanie Martinez (Orange)
Alone by Heart (Green)
INTERMISSION
For Whom The Bell Tolls by Metallica (Teal)
Money Make Her Smile by Bruno Mars (Yellow)
Feed My Frankenstein by Alice Cooper (Red)
She by Harry Styles (White)
bad idea, right? by Olivia Rodrigo (Pink)
ENCORE: Do Not Disturb by Halestorm (Black)
۞۞۞
FUN FACTS
MC always wanted to release their inner rock star but never felt confident enough to do so.
Diavolo was the one to suggest the concert as MC was sharing songs from the human world with him.
Each song on the setlist is attached to a color, and each color is associated with a person.
The songs (excluding the encore) get introduced by a color wheel.
Except for the opening song, MC wears something matching the color of the song they're performing.
MC sings and plays guitar and the piano.
۞۞۞
SONG DETAILS
Hellraiser is linked to MC.
Lyric: I keep saying that it's getting too much/But I know I'm a liar
Lucifer is Blue.
Lyric: You paint your smile on your lips/Blood red nails on your finger tips/A schoolboy's dream, you act so shy/Your very first kiss was your first kiss goodbye.
He is in attendance. One, he wants to keep an eye on Mammon and Asmo. Two, Barbatos had a extra ticket and invited him to tag along.
Part of him feels embarrassed to hear MC call him out like that, but mostly seeming them perform arouses him.
Belphie is Purple.
I mean, have you seen his battle sprite? The boy is a trained dancer.
The song is heavily choreographed.
The choreography is influenced by ballet.
He is not in attendance. He went straight back to the House after the dance to sleep.
He watches a video of the performance the next morning and is impressed by the artistry of the performance.
Simeon is Light Blue.
Lyric: Oh, I bet you thought that I was soft and sweet/You thought an angel swept you off your feet/Well, I'm about to turn up the heat
MC remembers how he behaved at the traveling carnival and decided to channel that energy into their performance.
He is in attendance. Solomon dragged him to the Fall after they settled Luke down in his bed.
He is BLUSHING.
Most people would think that he's horrified by the provocative lyrics, but no.
The song might as well be one of his diary entries describing how he feels about MC, so hearing them sing what's been on his mind...
Levi is Orange.
MC is attached to a wheel of death that magically spins and deteriorates as the song progresses.
The song describes someone who judges themselves harshly and has major anxiety.
If that isn't Levi to a tee, I don't know what is.
He is not in attendance. The dance drained his social battery, and he needs to be alone for a while.
However, he watches a livestream of the event on his phone, so he's witnessing the performance in real time.
By the end, Levi can barely see the screen due to the tears in his eyes.
Satan is Green.
Satan + pianos = match made in heaven
Plus, it's a rock ballad.
He is not in attendance for the same reason as Levi. He finds The Fall too loud for his liking.
He watches the performance the next evening after he's done studying.
He thinks the performance is beautiful.
Barbatos is Teal.
It's canon that he likes metal music.
I'm in the group of people that believe that he would enjoy Metallica.
You know the riffs played on the bass guitar? Well, imagine that they're played on a violin. Now, imagine that the person playing the violin is none other than Diavolo himself.
The reason for the intermission is so that he can disguise himself so that people don't suspect that he's on stage with MC.
As mentioned earlier, Barbatos is in attendance. He's the only person outside the band that knows about Diavolo's musical feature (which is basically how he got tickets to the show).
He appears stoic on the inside, but he's simply enjoying the music in his own quiet way.
Now, slight detour but still relevant to the song: I've seen a couple of posts that state that Lucifer has listened to Metallica. One of them presents the idea that he listened to the band a lot during his rebel angel days before he fell but that he only listens to them occasionally as a demon.
Needless to say, as soon as the music kicks in, Lucifer is literally this emoji: 😳
Mammon is Yellow.
It's literally in the title. What more could you ask for?
MC plays the role of an announcer, introducing a "new girl in town".
Who plays Mammon? A female doppelganger.
As mentioned earlier, he is in attendance.
He is BLUSHING (Part Two).
He has no idea what he's going to do the next time he sees MC. Will he faint? Will he compliment their performance? Will he pounce on them like an animal? The world may never know.
Beel is Red.
Food metaphors for sex? Literally Beel.
The second song that could be a diary entry.
He is not in attendance, for he doesn't particularly like the food they serve at The Fall.
He is instead eating at Hell's Kitchen when one of his classmates rushes up to him and has him watch a livestream of MC's performance.
Let's just say that he starts craving something else the longer he watches the performance.
Solomon is White.
I mean, he is the whitest boy in all of the three realms (lol).
In all seriousness, I know that in the original game, white was Luke's color and Solomon was a rainbow (like MC), but considering that everyone else has their own color and that MC wasn't performing a song about Luke...
Some background information: Harry Styles has admitted that he and his bandmates were on shrooms when they recorded this song and that the guitarist that plays the solo at the end (Mitch) didn't remember playing it (because he was that high) and had to learn it before they went on tour so that he wouldn't mess it up.
Needless to say, the song's trippy, and I think Solomon has a trippy vibe to him, so hence the song choice.
As stated earlier, he is in attendance.
He appreciates the work that went into the performance (which features some trippy set pieces).
Asmo is Pink.
Third song that could be a diary entry.
We all know Asmo's a slut, and we love him for it.
I also think he's a major pop rock girlie, and he would definitely be a big fan of Olivia Rodrigo (especially after GUTS).
He'd definitely be singing along and having a blast.
Not just during this song, but the entire concert. He LOVES seeing this side of MC.
Diavolo is Black.
*cough* Even if the devs can't settle on one shade *cough*
ANYWAY.
Out of all the songs, this is the one MC is most nervous to perform.
You see, they don't want to get in trouble for putting Diavolo on blast, and they almost don't perform the song at all.
However, after hearing the crowd begging for an encore, MC puts their fears aside and decides to just go for it (and worry about the consequences later).
MC has had a base costume that they've accessorized with different colored items throughout the evening. Underneath this base is a black lingerie set that they bought during a shopping trip with Asmo. This set gets revealed during a pause in the song where the lights go out briefly and come back on.
To make a long story short, MC is definitely getting railed after the concert.
Oh, and the "girlfriend" mentioned in the song? Lucifer.

[RERUN] SHAZAM! (the other Captain Marvel)
[All images are owned by DC Comics and Filmation. I promise I’m too poor to sue]
[NOTE: If you wish to see the original review, you may do so here]
(All video clips are thanks to Warner Bros. Classics)
youtube
In the 70s through the 90s, it was kind of confusing that both Marvel and DC (or National Publications, depending on the year) both had a character named Captain Marvel. Therefore, before we get into the subject of this review (on the DC side of things), I’ll give the convoluted story of how this happened…
Tumblr media
(Thanks to wikipedia)
Captain Marvel was created in 1939 by Fawcett Comics as part of their WHIZ Comics title. In the comics, 10 year-old Billy Batson was granted awesome powers by the wizard Shazam…
Tumblr media
(Thanks to iFanboy)
Shortly thereafter, National Publications (the company that would eventually be known as DC Comics) sued Fawcett because Captain Marvel was more popular than too similar to Superman.  National eventually won the suit (after a few appeals) and Fawcett was forced to stop publishing Captain Marvel.  National/DC eventually licensed the character from Fawcett beginning in the 70s before acquiring the character outright in 1991.
Now, Marvel saw the Captain Marvel name not being used and wasn’t about to let an opportunity go to waste!
Tumblr media
(Thanks to Marvel Database)
So in 1967, they published Captain Marvel, the adventures of an alien named Mar-Vell who would be the first of three heroes to carry the name (and trademarked title, since Fawcett’s Captain was published in WHIZ Comics).
Tumblr media
(Thanks to Marvel)
The second would be Monica Rambeau,
Tumblr media
(Thanks again to Marvel)
and the third (and current) being Carol Danvers.
So DC and Marvel both had legal rights to a character named Captain Marvel (though Marvel had the rights to the title) once they licensed the character, DC started using the Captain under the title SHAZAM! (Since Marvel had the title Captain Marvel trademarked) Eventually, DC gave up any ties to the name Captain Marvel and just called the hero Shazam (which must make introductions hard, since uttering his name would transform him between the hero and Billy Batson)
In the 70s, Filmation licensed the use of National’s version in the SHAZAM! Saturday morning television series. True to Filmation form, the show had a moral that permeated the show with a mini-PSA at the end just to hammer the point home.
Captain Marvel was the first DC hero I knew about (but not the first super hero, thanks to Marvel teaming up with the Children’s Television Workshop to put Spider-Man on The Electric Company) so you can imagine my frustration that there were no comic books out featuring the good Captain, save the occasional appearance when the Captain visited Earth-1 from Earth-S (If this confuses you, check out my review of Crisis on Infinite Earths; this will be given RERUN treatment soon, so watch for it!)
Now, if you saw the opening credits I posted above (and if you didn’t, please do so.  I’ll wait right here. All set? Good), you will note that the Wizard Shazam is nowhere to be seen.  Instead, we have the Six Elders, who grant Billy their abilities. (and it should be noted that they are the inspiration of Billy’s powers in the comics, just not personified) They are…
The wisdom of Solomon
The strength of Hercules
The stamina of Atlas
The power of Zeus
The courage of Achilles
The speed of Mercury
Now one would think that, given this is a super hero show, we would see Captain Marvel fight super villains, or at least the occasional bank robber. However, we never see a trace of Black Adam, Dr. Sivana, or even Mr. Mind. (check out the DC Comics Database if you’re unfamiliar with these characters) Instead, we’re treated to an After School Special with super powers.
Tumblr media
We start with Billy Batson (who has obviously been Captain Marvel for a few years, as he looks like he’s at least 16) and his mentor (whose name is apparently “Mentor”)
Tumblr media
…driving through what looks like southern California in a Winnebago with the Captain’s lightning bolt emblem on the front (you would think that would make it easier for the likes of the Captain’s rogues gallery to find them…)
Tumblr media
…when Billy is summoned by what looks like a cross between a disco ball and the gaudiest Christmas decoration ever.
Tumblr media
We are then treated to a conversation between Billy and a badly-animated representation of the Elders, who inform Billy he’s about to encounter the subject of this week’s moral and advice on how to help them (you’d think if they knew all this they could directly intervene, but I guess Billy and Mentor are the only ones who believe in the Greek gods any more, so they can’t manifest on Earth)
Sure enough, not five minutes later Billy and Mentor encounter the subject of the week’s moral.  Billy tries to help, but then the stakes get raised that there is real danger involved (usually self-inflicted), so…
youtube
…Captain Marvel flies in to Save The Day.
Then Captain Marvel shows up in a typical Filmation mini-PSA to hammer the moral into the kids’ brains one final time.
OK, given Filmation did this on a Saturday Morning budget with a bunch of kids who no doubt never acted before in their lives, they tried really hard, but given what Filmation animation released 10 years later, (such as He-Man and She-Ra) not to mention what it was doing at the time (such as Star Trek and Fat Albert and the [REDACTED] Kids), SHAZAM! did not age well.  However, it was popular enough to last three seasons…
Tumblr media
…and get a second actor to play Captain Marvel after the first left due to a contract dispute.
Tumblr media
(Thanks to SATURDAY MORNINGS FOREVER)
A few years later, Captain Marvel would get a second shot on TV, this time animated with the entire “Marvel Family”, although they had to share the spotlight with a live-action “comedy” show.
As always, if there are any episodes you would like to see (apparently there is an anti-drug episode that features cocaine (on a 70s kids’ show? What the hell did they think kids were doing?!)), let me know. If you would like to watch the series, it's available behind your favorite paywall.

Scientist discusses the MESSENGER mission to Mercury
Twenty years ago, the MESSENGER mission revolutionized our understanding of Mercury. We sat down with project head and former Carnegie Science director Sean Solomon to talk about how the mission came together and the groundbreaking work it enabled.
Q: As the principal investigator of the MESSENGER mission, what were your personal highlights or proudest moments throughout the mission's duration?
Sean Solomon: There were many personal highlights for me during the MESSENGER mission, beginning with our initial selection by NASA in 1999 and culminating in the publication by the MESSENGER science team of all of the findings from our mission in a book published nearly two decades later.
The most challenging events in any planetary orbiter mission are launch and orbit insertion. The successful completion of those two milestones for MESSENGER—in 2004 and 2011, respectively—were sources of great pride for me in the technical expertise of all of the engineers, mission design experts, and project managers who contributed to the mission.
The long flight portion of the mission provided multiple scientific highlights. MESSENGER's first flyby of Mercury in January 2008 yielded the first new spacecraft observations of Mercury in 33 years, and our team published 11 papers in a single issue of Science from those measurements six months later.
The second and third flybys yielded further new results and more journal special issues. The four years in orbit about Mercury produced a wealth of information about the innermost planet and a steady stream of discoveries.
Another highlight for me was to witness the professional growth of a number of the students, postdoctoral researchers, and early-career scientists who were part of the MESSENGER science team during at least some portion of the mission. Many of them made major contributions to the analysis and scientific interpretation of mission observations and are among the leading Mercury experts today.
What do you believe were the most groundbreaking discoveries made by MESSENGER, and how do they continue to impact our understanding of Mercury and planetary science today? How have these discoveries reshaped our understanding of planetary formation and evolution?
As the first Mercury orbiter mission, MESSENGER provided a global view of the solar system's innermost planet for the first time. MESSENGER also carried a more extensive instrument payload than Mariner 10—the only other spacecraft to have visited Mercury up to that time—and one that benefitted from more than three decades of advances in sensors, electronics, and miniaturization.
In particular, MESSENGER conducted the first geochemical remote sensing of Mercury's surface by means of multiple sensors, including X-ray, gamma-ray, and neutron spectrometers; multispectral imaging; and ultraviolet, visible, and near-infrared spectrometry. A number of MESSENGER's most important discoveries came from those observations.
MESSENGER documented that Mercury has a sulfur-rich, iron-poor surface, indicating that the planet formed from much more chemically reduced materials than those that formed the other inner planets and most meteorite parent bodies. That finding points to strong heterogeneity in the redox state of materials in the protoplanetary disk of dust and gas that orbited the early sun and from which all solar system objects were derived.
Contrary to all models advanced ahead of the MESSENGER mission to account for Mercury's high bulk density and inferred high fraction of metal relative to silicates, MESSENGER found that Mercury is not depleted in moderately volatile elements. Instead, Mercury displays surface concentrations of K, Na, and Cl comparable with those on Mars.
Moreover, MESSENGER discovered abundant geological features indicative of volatiles at depth. Hollows—irregular depressions, often with flat floors and bright halos, and best explained as having formed by loss of a volatile material from depth after exposure to Mercury's surface conditions—are widespread on surface materials excavated by impacts.
And among Mercury's volcanic features are pyroclastic deposits, products of past explosive eruptions triggered when the erupting magmas exsolved volatiles during ascent and pressure release. Whatever processes led to Mercury's high metal/silicate ratio, therefore, did not markedly deplete the planet of moderately volatile species relative to the other inner planets.
From MESSENGER spectral reflectance, gamma-ray, and neutron observations, Mercury's surface contains carbon at concentrations up to a few weight percent, most likely in the form of graphite. The carbon concentrations are highest in Mercury's darkest deposits, which were excavated during the formation of large impact craters.
This finding matches the prediction that Mercury's modern crust should contain remnants of a graphite flotation crust that formed during the cooling of an early magma ocean.
From neutron spectrometry, insolation modeling with measured topography, and visible and near-infrared reflectance, MESSENGER confirmed that Mercury's polar deposits—discovered in the early 1990s by Earth-based radar imaging—consist predominantly of water ice, stable over geological timescales in permanently shadowed regions on the floors of the highest-latitude impact craters.
Farther from the poles, water ice in polar deposits is also thermally stable on geological timescales, but only if covered by a thin insulating layer, and such a layer is indicated by neutron spectrometry. Reflectance measurements indicate that the insulating layer is darker than any other material on Mercury's surface and has thermal stability characteristics consistent with organic materials found in comets and volatile-rich meteorites.
These observations suggest that the permanently shadowed regions of Mercury's high-latitude craters are witness plates to the delivery of water and organic ices from the outer to the inner solar system, a process thought important to the inventory of water and prebiotic compounds on early Earth.
MESSENGER's most noteworthy discoveries extended beyond those from geochemical remote sensing to many other aspects of the planet, its environment, and its history:
MESSENGER's geodetic and gravity field measurements indicate that Mercury's iron-rich core is larger than previously thought. Interior models consistent with the planet's geodetic parameters and gravity field include a core with a radius some 80% of the planet's radius.
From orbital magnetic field measurements, MESSENGER showed that Mercury has a dipolar internal magnetic field likely generated, as on Earth, by a dynamo in the planet's fluid outer core. Unlike the fields of Earth, the outer planets, or outer planet satellites with such fields, however, Mercury's internal dipole is offset from the planet center by about 20% of Mercury's radius, a result not predicted by theoretical dynamo models prior to the MESSENGER mission.
MESSENGER observations of the distribution and geometry of Mercury's surface tectonic features indicate that the planet's interior cooled and contracted more than previously estimated. Importantly, estimates for such contraction since the end of heavy bombardment of the inner solar system are now in agreement with the predictions from models for the thermal evolution of Mercury's mantle and core.
Mercury's tenuous neutral atmosphere—a surface-based exosphere—was shown by MESSENGER to vary seasonally with the planet's changing solar distance over the course of a Mercury year. Moreover, the distribution by time of day differs among the most important atmospheric constituents (Na, Ca, Mg) derived from surface materials, pointing to a different mix of source processes for each, and the seasonal variation for Mg contains a signature of differences in surface Mg abundances among major geochemical terranes on the surface.
Because Mercury is much closer to the sun than Earth and its magnetic dipole strength is weaker by three orders of magnitude, its magnetosphere is much smaller than Earth's, and MESSENGER demonstrated that all magnetospheric phenomena operate on much shorter timescales. Mercury's magnetosphere hosts bursts of energetic electrons but no durable radiation belts as at Earth.
Notably, Mercury experiences magnetic reconnection rates much higher than at Earth and occasional collapse of the dayside magnetosphere in response to unusually strong solar wind ram pressure. Exposure of the surface to such direct solar wind impact contributes to an alteration of surface materials more rapid than on other airless or nearly airless bodies and to the generation of Mercury's neutral atmosphere.
Looking forward, how do you envision future missions to Mercury building upon the foundation laid by MESSENGER, and what key scientific questions do you hope they will address?
The next mission to Mercury is already in progress—the BepiColombo dual orbiter mission of the European Space Agency and the Japan Aerospace Exploration Agency. Although BepiColombo was conceived and selected for flight at about the same time as MESSENGER, its greater ambition and complexity and its multinational and multi-agency character led to a much longer development time.
The BepiColombo spacecraft were launched in 2018 and are scheduled to be captured into orbit about Mercury late next year. Because that mission involves two spacecraft operating simultaneously, includes more instruments than MESSENGER, and will view the planet from different orbits, the observations that BepiColombo will make promise to build on and extend those of MESSENGER in multiple ways.
There are limits to what can be measured from orbit, however, and so the next NASA mission to Mercury will probably be a lander.
The objectives of a Mercury lander mission will depend on the choice of landing site, but will likely include chemical, mineralogical, and isotopic analyses of Mercury surface materials to provide ground truth to orbital remote sensing and constrain magmatic and surface geological processes and their histories; seismic and geodetic measurements to characterize tectonic and impact sources of seismicity and improve information on the planet's internal structure; and magnetic field and energetic particle measurements to advance knowledge of Mercury's crustal magnetic field and interactions between the magnetosphere and the surface and interior.
A lander on Mercury's polar deposits would also permit the in situ analysis of ices delivered by the impact of comets and volatile-rich asteroids from the outer solar system, as well as important insight into the nature of volatile mixing and loss processes on Mercury's surface.
What is the importance of public outreach and education initiatives, such as the MESSENGER Education and Public Outreach Team's efforts, in engaging the broader community with space exploration missions?
Solar system exploration is funded by taxpayers, and the public deserves to be told why each such mission is worthwhile and what it has revealed about our neighboring planets as well as our own world. Moreover, space exploration is an engaging subject to audiences of any age.
Students in particular are drawn to the topic, and some will be motivated by their interest in space exploration to pursue lifelong careers in science and engineering. More broadly, a technically literate public is of vital national interest, as an increasing number of topics critical to society's future are grounded in an understanding fed by continuing scientific discovery.
Lastly, what message or lesson do you hope future generations of scientists and explorers will take away from the achievements of the MESSENGER mission?
The exploration of the solar system teaches us that the achievement of some goals requires exceptional patience and persistence. I was a young Assistant Professor when the first spacecraft mission to Mercury—Mariner 10—returned the first close-up views of that planet in the mid 1970s. Later that decade, I helped write the first strategy for the scientific exploration of Mercury to follow that mission.
For a variety of reasons, it took another two decades before the second mission to Mercury, MESSENGER, was selected for flight. Providing funding for and completing development of that spacecraft consumed another five years, and MESSENGER spent more than six and a half years in flight—more than 15 revolutions about the sun—before becoming the first spacecraft to orbit Mercury.
The end of MESSENGER's orbital operations four years later came 40 years after Mariner 10 had returned its last data. We now know a great deal more about one of our nearest planetary neighbors than we did before, but the journey was long.

Who Is The Son Of David In The Bible ?
The figure of King David is one of the most significant in the biblical narrative, renowned for his leadership, his psalms, and his role in the establishment of the united monarchy of Israel. Among the numerous aspects of David’s story, his sons play a pivotal role in the continuation of his lineage and the development of the kingdom. The question of who David’s sons are—and their roles and significance—offers a profound insight into the complexities of biblical history, royal succession, and the unfolding of God’s promises.
Background
David’s Kingship and Family
David, the youngest son of Jesse of Bethlehem, rose from shepherd boy to become the king of Israel. His reign is a pivotal chapter in the biblical narrative, marked by military victories, political consolidation, and personal trials. David’s family, particularly his sons, play crucial roles in the story of Israel’s monarchy and the transition of power within the Davidic line.
Tumblr media
The Biblical Accounts of David’s Sons
David’s sons are introduced throughout the books of Samuel, Kings, and Chronicles. They are featured in various narratives that highlight their individual characters, their relationships with their father, and their influence on the kingdom. The accounts of David’s sons are found primarily in 2 Samuel, 1 Kings, 1 Chronicles, and 2 Chronicles.
The Sons of David
1. Amnon
Background and Role: Amnon, David’s firstborn, is the son of Ahinoam of Jezreel. His story is marred by tragedy and moral failure. Amnon’s infatuation with his half-sister Tamar leads to a heinous act of sexual violence against her. This event causes a deep rift within David’s family and sets off a chain of events that culminates in Amnon’s murder by his half-brother Absalom (2 Samuel 13:1-29).
Significance: Amnon’s story underscores themes of moral failure, family discord, and the consequences of sin. His actions and their repercussions reflect the broader narrative of David’s troubled family life and its impact on his reign.
2. Chileab (Daniel)
Background and Role: Chileab, also known as Daniel, is the second son of David, born to Abigail of Carmel. Little is known about Chileab from the biblical text, and he does not play a prominent role in the narrative. His absence from the primary succession narrative suggests that he did not hold significant political or military influence (2 Samuel 3:3).
Significance: Chileab’s limited presence in the biblical account reflects the complexities of royal succession and the often uncertain fate of the king’s other sons. His lack of prominence highlights the focus on other sons who had a more direct impact on the kingdom’s history.
3. Absalom
Background and Role: Absalom, the son of Maacah, was known for his striking appearance and ambitious nature. He is most famously remembered for his rebellion against David. Absalom’s dissatisfaction with his father’s rule leads to a full-scale revolt, during which he declares himself king. His rebellion ends in tragedy when he is killed by Joab, David’s general, despite David’s orders to spare him (2 Samuel 13-18).
Significance: Absalom’s rebellion represents a critical moment of conflict and division within David’s reign. His actions reflect the complexities of succession and the personal and political turmoil that David faced during his kingship.
See also: How Many Sons Did Joseph Have in the Bible?
4. Adonijah
Background and Role: Adonijah, the son of Haggith, attempts to seize the throne following David’s old age. His claim to the throne is significant due to his royal lineage. However, his attempt is thwarted by the intervention of Bathsheba and Nathan the prophet, who support Solomon’s claim to the throne. Adonijah’s rebellion ends with his execution, following a failed attempt to seek sanctuary (1 Kings 1-2).
Significance: Adonijah’s attempt to usurp the throne highlights the challenges of royal succession and the political intrigue surrounding David’s final years. His story reflects the tensions and struggles within the royal family and the eventual establishment of Solomon’s rule.
5. Solomon
Background and Role: Solomon, the son of Bathsheba, is perhaps the most famous of David’s sons. He is chosen by David to succeed him as king, a decision influenced by divine intervention and prophetic endorsement. Solomon’s reign is marked by peace, prosperity, and monumental achievements, including the construction of the Temple in Jerusalem. His wisdom is legendary, and he is known for his extensive writings and contributions to Israel’s cultural and religious life (1 Kings 1-11).
Significance: Solomon’s reign represents the culmination of David’s legacy and the fulfillment of divine promises regarding the stability and expansion of the kingdom. His wisdom and achievements underscore the significance of his role in biblical history and the continuation of the Davidic line.
6. Other Sons
David had several other sons who are mentioned briefly in the biblical text. These include:
Ithream: The son of David and his wife Eglah, mentioned in 2 Samuel 3:5.
Shephatiah: Another son of David, mentioned in 1 Chronicles 3:3.
Eliezer: The son of David mentioned in 2 Samuel 5:14 and 1 Chronicles 3:8.
Significance: These lesser-known sons contribute to the broader picture of David’s family and the complexities of his royal lineage. Their inclusion in the biblical account reflects the intricacies of David’s personal and political life.
Theological and Historical Implications
Royal Succession and Divine Will
The stories of David’s sons highlight the challenges and intricacies of royal succession. Each son’s story reflects broader themes of divine will, human ambition, and the consequences of personal actions. The succession of Solomon, as ordained by God and supported by David, demonstrates the alignment of divine purpose with the royal line’s continuity.
Moral and Ethical Lessons
The narratives surrounding David’s sons offer moral and ethical lessons about leadership, family dynamics, and the consequences of sin. The tragedies and conflicts within David’s family underscore the importance of righteousness, justice, and adherence to divine principles.
The Legacy of the Davidic Line
The legacy of David’s sons extends beyond their individual stories. The establishment of Solomon’s reign and the construction of the Temple symbolize the fulfillment of God’s promises to David and the establishment of a lasting dynasty. The Davidic line becomes a central element in the messianic prophecies, with Jesus Christ being referred to as the “Son of David” in the New Testament.
Conclusion
The sons of David are integral to the biblical narrative, each contributing to the complex story of Israel’s monarchy and the unfolding of divine promises. From Amnon’s tragic actions to Solomon’s wise and prosperous reign, the lives of David’s sons reflect themes of leadership, succession, and the impact of personal choices on the broader narrative of Israel. As we explore the significance of these figures, we gain a deeper understanding of the challenges faced by David and the lasting legacy of his royal lineage. The stories of David’s sons not only enrich our understanding of biblical history but also offer timeless lessons about faith, governance, and the fulfillment of divine purpose.

Ishtar
It’s Berlin the museum
Eight gates separate the great from the dust
The eighth adorned with animal faces, graced with sky hues rubies and jacinths
Adjacent the golden steps of great temples
There is no complacent way to tend an eternal flame
The frame of the world, its high lofty domes, made them fine architects
Windows angled west better to barter for a subsequent sunset
The solar sojourn she sinks into the worldwomb, tomb of Time
House of Amenti, lsis laments Osiris tamarix entombment at Byblos the balance upset
Set upbraids his greenskinned brother who raised the lands to life
Set will praise his greenskinned other when his missing parts unite.
Great walls raised up impressively
Passively dominant
Slaves with jewelled bellies gyrate in suspended cages over thoroughfares where Ishtar masturbates
Tower tip the sky rakes, camel backs breaking in the wake of trade’s traffic
Fist-sized diamonds raised up in Africa, where Solomon and Sheba laid
Sheep are laid out with open bellies, alley smelly with death
Flies like halo Beelzebub in throbbing murmurations, thong the
Susurrations in the highest tower wish strife on thy nations
Babel’s proudest flower, Nimrod’s brick carnation
Angels teach us alloys magics in trinity
Our horns Ur haunt with doleful threnody
Babes are given up unto war-mad Marduk
Sickle swords, questions when Mars shook
The Gods themselves in infinite power glower at the pride of man
The bull of Heaven pacified, star maps of the antient Chaldea
Priests usher acolytes into fear tunnels, runnels run the wall’s length beneath the dunes
Inducing the mysteries.
Nimrod in the Lord’s sight smites the beasts of the field
Everything within sight is his, its rissom bounty his yield
Land they steal back from the desert mark with Lamashtu
Winged steed with manlike features to ward off creatures
They will eat us so they burn the bricks repeatedly
Pile and heap them, mound them mould them into history
The bricks you bring, and each must bring some, build from bitumen
That another avenging flood’s angry rain will not end the reign of men.
Ten horses aside can bestride its vast leys
Overhead the orb of the Smiter cruelly blazes
Sacred sows batting tails, beneath canopy lazing
Dust caked where backbreaking they break bricks
Everyday here is exactly the same
Work at the tower, worship a flame
Nimrod’s foremen cruel voices strident
A man’s death symbolised by a trident
Expendable the dismal lives of slaves
Toe dip shallow their cairnless graves
Idents from the lives of idols bedeck the walls between the ivories
Under threat of death diviners prise out glad tidings, pleasing ides
Birds reveal sweet throated secrets deep with their breasts cleaved
Eyes inset with bulging aquamarines, amethysts to take your breath away
A lunula of beaten gold lined with diamonds against Her ample breast lay
Armies line the board’s opposing poles, the great game of Ur is played
Nimrod lets them win, firms swaying loyalty, ensures the piper’s paid.

Lyrics and music Marc Gunn
There's a secret door to a hall unknown Inside are fears that Turn me to stone Do I step forward Or head back home Which is the path for me I raise my head and Take one step more The ground it shakes. I look back to the door Feel like I’m caught and stuck to the floor And so I cut myself free
* This world’s a treasure that is full of strife Every moment can enrich your life Just face your dragons with the edge of a knife It’s a better life you see Come adventure with me.
There are ugly goblins doing scary things Deep down in dungeons there are magic rings Live or die with the riddles we bring You’ll find your way through the dark My Precious life Has so many memories Fluttering birds, butterflies in trees My home is comfort, comfort is a breeze But there’s another way to live
So many wars. It’s an endless fight To slay our dragons that soar through our night But I’m no coward. I’ll do what is right. Before I make my way home. Now I’m back with stories that ring A truth That soars up on eagle wings Let’s not forget the songs elves sing Oh the joy that they bring!

Situations that end with MC Walking Away Brothers and Datables (-Luke)
This is supposed to be funny, humorous, fluffy, and teasing. Obviously, insinuations are there.
I didn't do Luke because you shouldn't walk away from children or dogs. Haha! No, really, I just didn't want to do one for him so apologies.
Lucifer-
MC walked into the library to see Lucifer. He hadn’t seen them as he turned over several books on random shelves. He also took books from one shelf and placed them on other shelves. MC watched for two minutes before clearing their throat.
“What are you doing?” MC asked.
Lucifer jumped and turned around with an eyebrow raised. “Nothing, and if I were you, I’d keep this to yourself.”
MC shakes their head and leaves. So Satan was right. Lucifer goes out of his way to fuck with him.
Mammon-
MC was walking by the bathroom and stopped at the door after hearing someone wailing.
Wait… that was Mammon singing that song they played for him. Treasure by Bruno Mars. How fucking cute! MC ducks closer to the door and smiles brightly. Damn, he was cute. Was he singing about them?
MC sneakily opens the door to see Mammon in the bathtub. He was holding up Goldie and singing. Ugh.
MC moves to shut the door, but he sees. “MC, wait! It’s not what it looks like!”
Moving down the hallway as fast as they can, Mammon was trying to hold up his towel. “Wait! MC! Come on!”
Leviathan-
Leviathan showed MC his recent picture compilations he was creating for TSL and Rui-chan on his editing software. It was impressive.
Levi gets up to retrieve a figure he modeled one of the frames out of when MC clicks the other project he had minimized. Oh, boy, they shouldn’t have done that.
“MC, I have the,” he stopped dead.
The project was massively just about MC. Quite a few of the shots were of them together. He even had little hearts littering the frames.
“Levi, I love you, but I have to go,” MC murmured with the brightest blush and left the room.
Satan-
MC and Satan decide to go to the cat shelter. They were petting all the cats and feeding them treats. It was all in all a great day.
However, when MC glances over at Satan, where he’s ducked down to a pair of kittens, he was holding up his hand, and their little paws would touch his palm.
“Good, one more time,” Satan said.
“W-what are you doing?” MC asked.
Satan glanced over with wide eyes. “Teaching them to high five…” he trailed off.
MC put their hands on their cheeks and walked out of the room. All of this to hide the incredible blush and giddy laughter they were suppressing.
Asmo-
MC was skipping up to Asmo’s room to tell him about this sale. It was awesome, and he was going to obsess.
However, when they opened the door, they regretted it. Asmo was making out pretty hardcore with Solomon on the bed. Appalled? Shocked? MC didn’t know which.
“There’s always room for my other human!” Asmo giggled when he caught sight of MC.
Solomon covered his face. “Asmodeus, really.”
MC clapped a hand over their mouth and turned in a mechanical fashion before retreating.
“I’m never opposed to a humane threesome!” Asmo called after them.
Beel-
MC was working out with Beel. Well, more that he was working out, and they were putting chips in his mouth. It was a very gratifying experience. Both would laugh and enjoy this ridiculous routine.
It was all going like a well-oiled machine. Well… until Beel bit MC’s finger. Now it wasn’t that hard, but hard enough to make them jerk backward.
“Oh, MC, I’m sorry!” Beel puffed as he stopped his pushups.
MC took their finger to their mouth and grumbled. “That hurt, but I’m okay. You won't hurt me again, Beel.”
“Did Beel try to eat you like in your dream? I was hoping for screams and not whimpers,” Belphie murmured with a smirk as he turned over on his bed.
MC turned beyond what was considered red on the color spectrum. “I gotta go,” they rushed out and climbed off the floor.
“Wait, MC, I promise I won’t eat you!” Beel shouted as he rushed after them.
“Or he’ll try lower!” Belphie snickered.
Belphie-
MC was relaxing with Belphie in the sitting room. He was resting against their shoulder, and MC’s legs were over his lap. It was a typical evening of lazy bones being lazy cuddle buddies.
Asmo scrunched his nose while walking into the room. “It’s really unfair,” he started.
MC glanced over. “What?”
“Why is Belphie always getting to sleep with you! You never sleep with me!” He cried while crossing his arms.
“Because I do it better, Asmo. MC likes to be on top,” Belphie murmured through sleep.
MC’s eyes grew as Asmo rolled his. “Yeah, sure, like anyone would believe you fuck better than me.”
“What do you think the pillow is for? Muffled cries,” Belphie smiled over at Asmo.
MC puffed and stood up, nearly toppling over the table. Their hands landed on it for balance.
“Thank you for assuming the position, MC,” Belphie chuckled.
Needless to say, MC bolted from the room with bright mortification.
Solomon-
Magic. Always magic and human experiences. Today was no exception while they were practicing in the sitting room at Purgatory Hall.
They were working on transformative magic. Advanced and complicated.
“Now, watch, the strings will change to bracelets,” Solomon declared as he performed the spell.
MC bobbed their head as the white string did change into silver bracelets. “Cool.”
Simeon glanced over from his book. “Always talented, Solomon.”
Luke looked up from his phone and seemed wholly unamused by the situation.
“Now, it’s your turn.”
MC made the gesture and sputtered on the words. Instead of the string on their wrists turning into bracelets, they coiled around their hands and connected in a binding. MC gasped and struggled as they tried to climb off the ground.
“I didn’t realize you liked being tied up. I would have offered in private,” Solomon teased.
MC’s cheeks filled with blood and tripped as they moved toward the exit of the room.
“Solomon!” Simeon groaned.
Solomon was laughing. “I didn’t mean it. Well, maybe just a little, MC.”
They didn’t give him the chance to tease them anymore. MC struggled with the front door and began to march down the path.
“MC, you look like a demon meal like that! Come back,” Solomon called out, trying to catch them scurrying off. He laughed while following them all the way back to House of Lamentation.
Barbatos-
They were cooking together because he offered lessons. MC was always happy to help and learn to perfect a skill.
“Very good,” Barbatos nodded at MC finishing the sauce.
“Thanks, Barbatos. You’re going to get me cooking well enough to put any human to shame,” MC laughed.
“Maybe, but you were a proficient cook beforehand,” Barbatos said.
“I’ll have to cook for you sometime. Just tell me what you’d like to eat,” MC smiled.
Barbatos blushed and cleared his throat. “Anything you would like to make, MC. It isn’t often someone would like to return the favor for me.”
MC glanced over to see Barbatos had turned to the large pot on the stove. “I mean it. Whatever you want, Barbatos. I’d like to do something nice for you.”
“Why don’t you go see if we have any fresh greens?” He murmured.
MC scowled at the demon but agreed. They walked to the other side of the kitchen and went into the fridge. Glancing at the side, MC could see Barbatos subtly wiping his eyes through the reflection.
“Hey, Barbatos, I’m going to run to the restroom. I’ll be right back,” MC said and left the kitchen.
“Thank you,” Barbatos murmured as they left.
Diavolo-
Diavolo and MC were walking together through RAD as Barbatos trailed. They were on the way to a meeting, and MC was headed to lunch. This was usual, rare, but something not out of the norm. He would get his human questions in during these moments.
“MC, I heard the oddest thing from Asmodeus the other day,” Diavolo declared.
“What did he say now?” MC questioned with suspicion.
“There’s this game that you and he play. It has to do with figures of some sort,” Diavolo hummed.
“Figures?” MC asked.
Diavolo tapped his chin and glanced back. “Barbatos, what was it called again?”
“Daddy or Uncle energy, I believe, my lord,” Barbatos said while stifling a smile.
“Ah, yes, that one. Is this one of those parental human games?” Diavolo inquired while staring at MC.
Ded. one hundred percent. “No, um, Lord Diavolo, I gotta go,” MC puffed and tried to gesture toward the cafeteria.
“Wait, but he said you saw me as a father type? That’s very sweet,” Diavolo beamed with the smallest hint of mischief.
“Bye, Lord Diavolo! Bye, Barbatos!” MC rushed out and sprinted toward the cafeteria.
“I just wanted to say thank you,” Diavolo called after them with a bout of laughter.
Asmo was killed later that night. (Not really, but it could happen…)
Simeon-
Simeon and MC were in the kitchen of Purgatory Hall, baking. They had just finished the batter for the fingerprint cookies with a celestial recipe. Simeon was his usual serene self.
“Simeon, how long are these going to take?” MC questioned with the timer in hand.
“Put the timer on for fifteen minutes, and we’ll check then. I still am not confident that Solomon doesn’t tinker with the oven for experiments,” Simeon laughed.
MC set the timer and grinned. “I wouldn’t put it past him.”
“He is a very unique human,” Simeon noted with a smile.
MC laughed while picking up the towel on the counter. “Here, let me help you clean up. You have some flour on your face.”
Simeon bent enough so that MC could clear his features of the flour, all the while beaming. It was a very cozy experience to bake with the angel. He took the towel from MC’s hand and nodded.
“Let me assist. You have some as well,” he noted and wiped their cheeks with soft swipes.
Simeon’s eyes were focused on the task.
“Simeon! Solomon took my hat for a spell again!” Luke yelled as he walked into the room.
MC jumped and accidentally pressed their lips to the space just next to Simeon’s mouth. “Oh, my God!” MC puffed and bounced back.
That just made it even worse. MC clapped a hand over their mouth and rushed from the room. Fire was cooler than their face. How were they ever going to explain that?
