『鋼鉄ジーグ』は、1975年に放送された日本のロボットアニメです。全50話で構成され、長浜ロマンロボシリーズの第2作目として知られています。主人公の司馬 宙が巨大ロボット「鋼鉄ジーグ」を操縦し、悪の組織「デビル軍団」と戦う姿を描いています。鋼鉄ジーグは、複数のパーツが合体することで完成するロボットで、そのデザインや合体プロセスが子どもたちの間で人気を博しました。 『鋼鉄ジーグ』は、巨大ロボットアニメの黄金期を代表する作品の1つであり、その後のロボットアニメにも大きな影響を与えました。また、主人公の宙や仲間たちとの友情、敵キャラクターとのドラマチックなストーリー展開も魅力の1つとなっています。

This weekend I ran across the TV anime, Steel Jeeg (鋼鉄ジーグ) and dipped in for the first episode. What caught my eye was that the “big bad” who is introduced is said to be the Yamatai Kingdom’s ancient sorceress-empress, Himiko (卑弥呼), and I believe the legends of Himiko had an influence on the development of the Showa era magical girl tripe.

なぜ今？　伊で発表『ジーグ対グレンダイザー』　実は半世紀前にも「幻の企画」が！

海外で「グレンダイザー」と「鋼鉄ジーグ」が熱いワケ

　日本では1975年にTV放送が始まったロボットアニメの『UFOロボ グレンダイザー』と『鋼鉄ジーグ』は、国内でも人気のあった作品でしたが、海外での評価はともに日本以上のものでした。放送から約半世紀の2024年現在、この2作品に熱い注目が集まっています。

　なぜならば先日、イタリアで『鋼鉄ジーグ対UFOロボ グレンダイザー（原題は『JEEG CONTRO GOLDRAKE』）』というタイトルのアニメコミック作品（アニメのグラフィックで描くマンガスタイルのコンテンツ）が、本年2024年に永井豪先生とダイナミック企画の承認のもと、制作されるという発表があったからでした。

　日本のファンには「なぜ今？」と思う人も少なくないでしょう。これは海外での両作品の人気が日本人の考えている以上のものだからです。そのことについて順を追って説明しましょう。
