iirc niko’s name is spelled in katakana (ニコ) on the letters from her mom, which makes me think it’s referencing the term nikoniko (ニコニコ). as in, the onomatopoeia for smiling. my girl’s name is literally smile, of course she’s a perfect ray of sunshine.

Today,I'm gonna recommend really useful words which is used by a lot of Japanese people.
That is “遊ぶ”.
_/_/_/_/_/_/_/_/_/_/_/_/_/_/_/_/_/_/_/_/_/_/_/_/_/_/_/_/_/_/
①Explanation
Spending enjoyable time with close friends is called "遊ぶ".
What exactly you do is not important to use ”遊ぶ“.
You can express anything like , “go to a friend’s house” and “play games” , “have a coffee” , “go shopping” , “play baseball” , “go to karaoke” , ”hang out with partner” and so on.
You can use ”遊ぶ” all the time when it is bother to express what specifically you do.

bloggers i need your help. i loved the structure of the exercises in duolingo, but it’s not a useful app for me anymore. i want something that can generate exercises using custom vocabulary sets, and grammar if i can. or something that just doesn’t lock me into a prescribed learning path so much. the japanese course i’m in uses genki for reference. i know genki has their own companion apps, but i don’t wanna pay for an app without peer endorsement. i liked duolingo’s combination of matching exercises, word-translation exercises, listening exercises, phrase- and sentence-translating exercises, and handwriting exercises. the supplementary audio was really helpful; i’d really prefer something that also has sound. if you’ve got a recommendation, or if you can tell me whether genki’s apps are worth the money, i would really appreciate it!

24年6月10〜14日(月〜金)
It was a quite challenging week and lots more is ahead. This week I had mechanical engineering, maths and also presentation of my IT project (at least part of it). I didn’t understood it at all so I just made some doddles there haha.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Yet I need to say that I feel guilty for not revising my Japanese vocabulary/ grammar/ kanji. I’m so busy at uni that I don’t have enough time to study language and in 3 weeks I have my JLPT N4 exam!😭😭
I need to survive the next week and I guess it’s gonna be a bit better..
Next week’s finals:
engineering drawing
modern physics
IT final quiz
tutorial test 2 resit - mechanical engineering
German
lecture exam EEE
tutorial test 3 resit - maths
English
Wish me luck 🫠

Really happy with how nice my study area looks rn. Hoping that when I move it doesn’t have to be in the communal loungeroom where I have no space for shelves. I used to have a small shelving unit from ikea next to my desk. But once the loungeroom was changed around, against my wishes, it had to be moved. So now my books just sit beside me when my partner isn’t using his computer next to mine. It’s not ideal but oh well. It still looks nice.
I also tested out my new supplies that came. I love Japanese stationary. It’s just so much nicer then Australian stationary.

羊文学の「予感」 - eng trans
"Premonition" by hitsuujibungaku
---日本語の歌詞 / jpn lyrics---
昨日の夜は嫌な予感がしてさ ついに朝まで君と話した
他愛もないことばかり、笑う会ううちに眠りについた
もしも魔法が使えるのなら、君はどんな奇跡をここに望むの?
たった一つの小さな嘘が、心の奥で消えてゆくように
そった、おやすみ
---eng lyrics / 英語の歌詞---
I had a bad feeling last night, while I talked to you until the morning.
I continued to love for no one else, as we laughed before falling asleep.
If you were able to use magic, what kind of miracle would you wish for here?
Like a single, small lie that disappears into the back of my heart.
That said, goodnight.
---Notes---
The overall impression that the song gives is an individual who is worrying over the sincerity of the relationship they have with their partner.
In the line about the lie disappearing into one's heart, the original artist uses the "〜てゆく" verb ending, which can imply increasing or decreasing tendency as well as something leaving the speaker, in association with the verb "to disappear." This combination leads to the understanding that, in the overall context of the song, the speaker knows that their partner habitually tells them small lies, and these lies are progressively building up, yet the speaker hides them away in their heart and chooses not to address them.
The lyrics are left open-ended, reflecting that the future of the speaker's relationship is also uncertain. The accompanying transitions within the instrumental beautifully capture the anxiety and devastating emotions of someone experiencing this situation (and I will never get tired of the electric guitar).
Disclaimer: My translations are not directly translated; I try to match connotations between languages, but the overall message is similar. I am also not perfect :,) I'm still learning and open to corrections.
