i've started reading the manga version of 君たちはどう生きるか (adapted by 羽賀翔一), and while i've read the novel in english this is my first time trying the work in japanese! you know what that means—time for vocab lists!!

nouns:

豪傑（ごうけつ） = hero, great man

雨粒（あまつぶ） = raindrop

事柄（ことがら） = matter, thing, affair

牢屋（ろうや） = jail, jailhouse

観察（かんさつ） = observation, watching

八百屋（やおや） = greengrocer

損得（そんとく） = loss and gain, advantage and disadvantage

真相（しんそう） = truth, truth of the matter

常識（じょうしき） = common sense

失業（しつぎょう） = unemployment; becoming unemployed

興奮（こうふん） = excitement

値打ち（ねうち） = value, worth, merit

verbs:

書き留める（かきとめる） = to write down, record, make a note of

唱える（となえる） = to advocate, preach

In the scene when the protagonist, Taeko, picks safflower, the Bulgarian song 'Malka Moma Dvori Mete' plays in the background. In my interpretation, she's picking rose petals in the Bulgarian Rose Valley. 🌹

Not gonna lie, I just want to see behind the scenes of Robert Pattinson recording for The Boy and the Heron. He sounds NOTHING like himself, which is what it’s supposed to sound like, but I didn’t realize he could sound like that.
