reading an article about latin nouns that changed from neuter to masculine/feminine and it's really interesting but it also means that i now know of an instance of a masculine version of the latin word for wine (vinus) which would have been pronounced "weenus"

When underwater, humans cannot determine where a sound comes from. Sound travels about five times faster there than on land. That makes directional hearing, or sound localization, nearly impossible because the human brain determines the origin of a sound by analyzing the time difference between its arrival at one ear versus the other. By contrast, behavioral studies have shown that fish can locate sound sources such as prey or predators. But how do they do it? Neuroscientists from Charité—Universitätsmedizin Berlin have solved the puzzle, describing the auditory mechanism of a tiny fish in the journal Nature.

Hi, Audrey! Quick question and feel free to ignore: in Developmental Milestones, is there ever a scene where Dev (I think) acknowledges that Bruce's decision not to kill the Joker is what allowed that burden not to fall onto anyone else and was ultimately for the best? I love all of Cor Et Cerebrum and am trying to figure out if this occurs in a different part or if I made it up. Do you know where it is? 

P.S: Your works are my all time favorite pieces of fiction I’ve ever read. The phrase “the violent rejection of the audacity of love” and so many other scenes rattle around in my head on a daily basis :)

i know dev and bruce talk about death and suffering in the chapter where the joker is confirmed dead, but i think what you're thinking of is maybe from the final chapter of out here hope remains when jason is talking to bruce about it?

There’s silence in the Jeep again but it’s no longer tense, just companionable. Or, Bruce thinks it is until the fifth minute when he looks sidelong at Jason and sees the pensive expression. And it’s his turn to manage words, but he finds it easier now. He thinks he’s been getting better, maybe.

“What’s bothering you?”

Jason looks startled at first and then pensive again.

“I dunno,” he says, rubbing his face. “A lot. Shit. A lot I was waiting to talk to you about, but now I don’t know where to fricking start. Surgery. That I hate school. I miss everyone. That the Joker is dead and that you were right and I’ve never apologized.”

“Apologize?” Bruce asks, raising an eyebrow. “What the hell for?”

“I gave you a lot of grief for not killing him,” Jason says quietly. “But it was leaving him alone that kept everyone’s hands clean. It’s kind of a fucking poetic justice, isn’t it?”

“Yeah,” Bruce says, equally quiet. “But you don’t need to apologize for that, Jay.”
