As a Hetalian, it is possible to be both respectful and informed on this situation.

The original post (not the one I am reblogging; the picture attached, don't be mean to the person I am reblogging this from) is neither of those two things.

There is a very prevalent issue with antisemitism not only within Hetalia as a fandom and community, but also the world at the moment, and yes. There are people using what is currently happening in Gaza and also in the West Bank and also in Lebanon to justify their antisemitism. This isn't even remotely acceptable, so understand that first and foremost. This is not a "Jewish" problem. Zionism is the cause of this violence. Not Judaism. And it is horribly inappropriate to conflate the two of those things, and project hatred of one onto the other. Zionists may claim to be Jewish, but they do not uphold Jewish beliefs, and there have been countless instances of orthodox Rabbis begging for a ceasefire, actively protesting, praying with other Jews and with Muslims alike and literally trying to remind people that this is not done in their name. This is not their will. Jewish protesters have been actively fighting what is happening for years, because this has been an ongoing issue for years. Decades.

More than Jews live in Israel. More than Muslims are Arabs. And to those who want to use blanket statements, stay out of discussion. Because ignorance is only adding to further harm to both the Jewish communities and also to Arabs and Muslims, as well as those currently trying to not be murdered in Gaza.

No one who is decent is calling for Israelis to be murdered. No one who is a decent person is saying that Israelis cannot exist, that they should not be allowed to live. Because that is absolutely not the case, and not the sentiment held by Palestinians. If that were true, Israel would not exist, because the people who first came there back in the 40's would have been ousted immediately. They weren't. They were welcomed, even if somewhat hesitantly. And since that time, since al-Nakba, the only thing that has happened is the Israeli government pushing and corralling the Palestinians into smaller and smaller land, taking away their ability to collect water by forbidding them to collect rainwater, by destroying their wells, and controlling the input and output of everything in Gaza, especially. Gaza is under an air, land, and sea blockade. They do not get aid in anywhere near as much as they need, and especially not since the 7th of October.

They are still actively being bombed. They are still actively being shot. They are still actively being starved, to the point that dozens of reports of children under the age of 9 dying of starvation and malnutrition are beginning to flood in.

They are still trying to collect food when it is barely brought in, expired, and oftentimes partially unusable. They still have to collect aid that's dropped when packages either kill people upon landing, or are used as a point to target and shoot those going to collect it. They have no choice. Palestinians, not Israelis, are the ones being actively told by those who support Israel and by some Israelis, as well, that they cannot exist. That they should die. That they are glad, and hope to see the purging of Gaza, its total destruction, for the land to be "made clean" and made into a fucking Starbucks, as a way to mock those who are begging for protest so that some impact is seen. So that their murders are not ignored, as they have been for the last 76 years.

Palestinians are being silenced. People supporting Palestinians are being silenced. By those who use the genocide against Palestinians as a way to validate their antisemitic behavior, by those who straight up refuse to believe that such mass murder could be committed because Israel is the "good guys", by those who are celebrating their deaths and hoping for the total eradication of Palestinians, and with them, Palestine.

Israel is not the victim in this situation. Israelis who refuse to serve in the IOF have been arrested by their own government for refusing to commit murder. Israeli Jews who protest are beaten by the IOF, there is plenty of footage of it.

So do not use what is being done to the Palestinians as justification for being antisemitic. But do not allow people to wash over this with the typical islamophobic mindset that especially those of us Americans have been raised with. Not all Palestinians are Muslim. Not all Israelis are Jews. And neither deserves to be killed for simply being alive.

Israel should not exist as it currently does. Point, blank, period. It is a settler colonial state that the United States and United Kingdom have directly funded and helped create via the forced mass exodus of Palestinians and also their systematic ethnic cleansing and now genocide. But that does not mean that those who wish for the land to return to being called Palestine want Israelis harmed. That's not the case at all. It just means that people will have to start calling the land what it has been since before 1948, and should still rightfully be called;

Palestine.

Those who were born there should be still allowed to live there, and I believe most Palestinians would agree with that sentiment. Those who want the death and eradication of Palestinians should be forced to move back to wherever they or their families came from, which--btw, most Israelis are either Americans who decided to move there, or of European descent. If they won't cohabitate with Palestinians, and want them dead? They should not be living there. They should not be allowed to live on stolen land while actively wishing for the harm and deaths of those it has been stolen from.

But ultimately, Hetalians, you should understand this:

Arabs are people. Muslims are people. Jews are people. Christians are people. Israelis are people. Palestinians are people.

And you should not call for the eradication of any sort of people. Even if you disagree with them. The only people in this instance who deserve death are those who are currently enacting and leading it. And I will not elaborate on names for the sake of not losing this account, but I hope it should be obvious what is meant.

Because these are the latest updated numbers out of Gaza and the West Bank as far as total deaths and injuries.

There are still over 8,000 people missing, most who are by now rightfully assumed to be dead, as painful as that is to say. And this kind of death toll out of 6 months, just civilians, alone, is not proof that Israel is trying to minimize casualties. These numbers do not tell a tale of Israel being the one being attacked.

It is Palestinians who are being murdered daily. And using this time to center Israel as the victim is grotesquely inappropriate. Yes, antisemitism is rampant. Yes, it is actively getting worse because of what is going on. Yes, it is inexcusable, and should be stopped. There is no reason to blame Jewish folks for this, just as there is no reason to blame all Arabs or all Muslims for the deeds of the few who are being hateful.

But the genocide needs to stop. The guilt-tripping by claiming anyone who stands with Palestine is equivalent to Nazis or is antisemitic needs to stop. Because it is not Palestine that has made Gaza into an actively carpet-bombed concentration camp. The Israeli government and military are squarely the ones who have done that. Their government and military's actions are most closely resembling the Nazis. Not the people who are protesting and begging day in and out for a ceasefire, for the thousands of murders to stop. For the deliberate starvation to stop. For the bombing of hospitals and schools to stop. For the people needing medical aid and supplies to get what they so desperately need.

Israelis are not Nazis, to be clear. That is not what I am saying. But the Israeli government? The IOF? I can't honestly say that they are not as bad as the Nazis, when they are actively enacting a genocide against the people they have been abusing and killing and keeping prisoner for decades now. And the Israelis hoping that this continues? The Israelis actively mocking the Palestinians being murdered? They're equally as evil and horribly ugly inside, and I hope they change their fucking ways.

Americans, stop listening to whining and guilt tripping propaganda from pro-Israel accounts who cannot provide actual reports of what they are alleging.

Because here is the death toll out of Israel. And it has not changed much since its revision by the Israeli officials themselves. Because it is not Israelis who are being murdered at present. It is not Israelis undergoing collective punishment and war crimes at the hands of their captors and occupiers.

That would be what is happening to the Palestinians. There are countless hours of footage proving that, much of it coming from the journalists who have been routinely targeted and some killed by the IOF. Because at least 97 journalists out of Palestine have been killed since this resurfaced in the public eye in October, last year.

For you Hetalians, if you didn't know: only 69 journalists were killed during the entirety of WWII. Sixty-nine. Over six years. And Israel has managed to kill 97 over the last six months.

They are deliberately trying to choke out all information from all media platforms by killing journalists, while actively having killed at least 33,800 civilians over the span of the last 6 months.

Hetalia is supposed to be a community that loves history. That learns from history. That loves the world and seeing how diverse it is, how much it's changed over time. You should all know better, and be better informed, and have a more active interest in breaking down ignorance taught to us via school/education systems, families, what have you.

The entire point of this community is to reach out and learn. And the joy of this community comes from getting to meet people around the world who want to share and learn history as much as we all do.

So use this time to educate yourselves. Don't be antisemitic. Don't be islamophobic. It's 2024 for fuck's sake. Grow up. Hate for the sake of hate is wrong. Hating others for matters they cannot help--being Jewish, being Muslim, being Arab, being POC, what have you--has no place in 2024. And neither does supporting or ignoring genocide.

So, from the bottom of my heart: Free Palestine. Free Sudan. Free the Congo. Free Yemen. And do not give in to those begging you to turn a blind eye to unlawful imprisonment, ethnic cleansing, and genocide. Don't use this violence to excuse or incite further violence, be it islamophobia or antisemitism. They are both equally wrong.

Children are being killed by Isr*el but ok. There's video evidence everywhere but ok.

Also Palestinian jews exist too, and actual H*locaust survivors are protesting what Isr*el is doing to the Palestinians.

Didn't know saying "Killing innocent civilians, especially children, is horrible and there should be permanent ceasefire" was so controversial but ok.

A quick snack of a story. Aventurine may be a bit OOC and I apologise. Not prood read and no warnings. Roughly 1600 words.

Summary: A first meeting between two gamblers with divine luck. Both catch each other's interest

"The discovery of the civilization of the Terra system had opened new maps of exploration. While things are rather hostile and tense at the moment, the IPC and the Banking Society of Terra have begun talks of ceasefire and possible trade agreements. Not much is known about this large civilization, like how far they expand and what resources they have. However if talks go well with the Banking Society, we could see a whole side of the universe we have never seen.

The Ten cornerstones are set to meet ten of the thirteen high commissioners of the Banking Society within hours of this broadcast. We have Professional…."

When the people of the outerlands had first been discovered, you were quickly informed. Life existing outside of the known universe was a big deal, and as one of the thirteen leaders of the biggest corporation in your entire galaxy, you were to be informed of big discoveries like that. Of course, hostilities were quick to break out between the two sides. The advance technology of your civilization held the enemy back and even took some territory.

The First of the Thirteen saw an opportunity. If peace was to be made, then perhaps your universe could gain more then they would recieve through battle. Thus, a treaty was sent to the so called Interastral Peace Corporation. A meeting on neutral territory was arranged for ten of the thirteen leaders. Every one of you would be on diffrent planets on neutral territory.

As Third of the Thirteen, you were to meet the one called Aventurine. Rumor was that he was a gambler much like you were. With luck to match yours, you wondered how this meeting would go. You did make bargains based on someone's gambling skills. You have never encountered someone with your type of luck in all of the years you have lived. No being in your galaxy could get away with the things you have from just luck alone. Excitement filled your veins.

You donned your nicest clothes for this meeting. The casino you were to meet in was the best on this backwater planet you were to meet on. Thick clothes and cloak ruffled as you entered the Casino from the cold outside. Glittering lights and machines were abundant in this casino. The tables were filled with people. Whether they were here to gamble or to see the exotic people metting here, it did not matter to you. What you truly wanted was upstairs.

The plush carpet under your heeled boots crumpled as you made your way upstairs. As you played with a emerald coin in your hand, your guards shuffled close to you. They came closer as you approached the doors to the meeting room. Opening the large gold doors, you quickly spotted him. Aventurine sat at one of the tables in the front of the area. Diplomats from both sides quietly tucked away in their respective corners. Your diplomats knew better than to talk with the enemy until you arrived.

Your heels clicked against the wooden floors as you quickly approached him. He gazed to you as you approached. Taking a seat in front of him, you waved off your guards with a gloved hand. The coin you were playing with found its way on the table.

"You must be Aventurine. You likely already know me but I will be polite and introduce myself. I am refered to as Blackjack by my people." You started as you leaned back on the seat. You studied him. He was rather handsome. His clothing was odd to you and it reminded you of a peafowl. Blond hair and exotic eyes were another intresting trait of his. You did not know that the Outlanders had multitoned eyes like your people often did. It was a shame he was wearing glasses that covered them.

"You read the treaty we sent, yes?" You asked.

"That's why I'm here." He sounded confident. You knew this was going to be intresting. You summoned a paper from the subspace where you kept your weapon. You slid it across the table to him.

"This is my part of the agreement. If we cannot agree on a part of this agreement, we play a gambling game. Whoever wins gets to keep their part of the agreement and we move on. To keep things fair, I've taken the liberty of studying games from your part of the universe. We play alternating games since many of your universes games are similar to ours, like poker and baccarat. Do you agree to this?" He didn't have a choice but to agree to your terms, though he did not know that. The smile on his face was dangerous, you had caught his interest.

"Of course, let us begin negotiations."

Game after game was played. More often then not they kept ending draws. You didn't even know it was possible for some of these games to end in draws. There were fifteen sections in your part of the treaty agreement. So far, he had won seven and you had won seven. Even though you would lose, the thrill from losing naturally to such a pretty man was well worth it in your eyes. It's not like his rewrites were unfair to either side, so it was no big loss.

At some point, diplomats from both sides had begun to watch the final game be played. Both you were satisfied with the final section of the treaty, but still gambled for the sheer joy of it. Poker was the final game. Both of you were cheating. The poor youkai serving as the house was beginning to look more stressed and interested as time went on. It was a battle of two people with insane luck.

The entirity of the room was gathered around the table. All watching with intense eyes.

"All In." You spoke as you moved all your chips into the center. He smirked as he met your all in with one of his own. You heard one of your guards behind you take a tense breath in and hold it. The cards were revealed. You had lost by a single card. The room broke out into excitement and you gave a smile to the man in front of you. The nearby people were returning to their original spots away from the table.

"It appears you won pretty boy." You summoned the newly made treaty piece and held it between your fingers. "Shall we sign?" You stood and went to his side of the table and slid the paper to him. You summoned a pen and handed it to him as he read the treay in front of him.

"If you don't mind," you leaned closer to him and whispered to him, "we still have another day to negotiate. I'd like to play more games. The prizes can be decided later. How about it?" You watched intently as he signed the paper. He handed the paper back to you and you signed the paper. "Copy boy, Come make a copy of this for me." You called to your guard and he quickly came and used his abilities to copy the treaty before being shooed off.

Aventurine had stood up by the time you handed his copy of the treaty to him. His confident smirk gave his answer away.

"I won't say no, how about we meet here after lunch tomorrow?" He held put his hand for you to shake it. You took it and spoke.

"It's a deal. It is late though, so I will be leaving." You let go of his hand and began to leave. "Enjoy your night, handsome." You waved as you left. Aventurine merely watched as you left

Later that night, The Ten Cornerstones held a meeting. All attending virtually to discuss how things went. Though, it would be a bit odd with all of them attending from either rooms in their ships or hotel rooms.

"The Sixth wouldn't budge. We are to reconvene in the morning to continue negotiations." Topaz finished giving her statement. It appears things had gone poorly on all sides except Aventurine's.

"I have my piece of the treaty here. It appears I'm the only one who managed to secure the side of the deal tonight." Aventurine spoke, much to the displeasure of some of the cornerstones. The bridge he had managed to build before the others would look good. The meeting was quick to turn to the treaty that he had secured.

Aventurine would be lying if he said he wasn't interested in you. Your taunting but excited face when you both gambled for the sections of the treaty stayed with him. Even as you lost, you kept smiling. When he played with you, it was like his luck wasn't even there to begin with. It was truly a fair setup.

The rumors of your luck had been true. That was the only explanation for why things had been so evenly matched.

You were pretty too, so losing didn't hurt so much when you were both pretty and had rather fair sections of the the treaty. It was the most fun he has had in a long time, even if you were both cheating.

Yes, Aventurine was looking foward to tommorow. Perhaps he could build that bridge even more by getting closer to you.

Since the world of atab is about to get a whole lot more fleshed out with aftermath and chapter 2(Aftermath totally isn't a way for me to put all my scrapped ideas somewhere)

I thought I would need to make an official world history post for atab since oddly enough, a lot of the Kaiju are important to it.

There have been 2 main wars in the history of Atab

Humans vs nonhumans

This was fought over the prevalence of the van Helsing's anti magic propaganda.

This came to climax when Dracula(yes that dracula) was killed by Werner van Helsing, the instigator of the conflict

It was Helsing extremists against everything sentient.(Fought a little after the Seer's era)

Before it got out of control, representatives from all sides came together to unify, the rebels were dismantled and they were imprisoned. This marked an important point due to society now being largely collaborative, using magic from all over to help advance civilization at a rapid pace

2. The civil war of the wardens and the headhunters

The first major Kaiju incident was the infestation of Kamacuras on the beach city of Simos, this was a PR nightmare since all prior incidents were able to be kept under the rug but the swarm was able to get everything out of control, the giant insects absolutely crippled the strip of beach.

A warden named Clyde Jenson was outraged, thinking that the wardens were either incompetent or dangerously manipulative, thinking that the entire public should be able should know about these things. The wardens used to be law enforcement, assassins,kaiju hunting etc.

The wardens split, many joined with Clyde. They went at war with each other,taking equipment, taking bases over, and most importantly, building weapons.

This only served to escalate the conflict. They tore up the landscape and all the dead machines tore up and littered the land.

Eventually they came to a ceasefire, territory would belong to the headhunters, and wardens have their respective territory, they have pretty peaceful alliances now but some factions, specifically the stranger's horsemen are especially violent.

That's mainly all I'll say, but across the world, metallic corpses litter the landscape, hence characters like narse, moguera,king joe and jet jaguar being present.

With the warm weather comes the festival season for the Lysarans, The Game is never more active than when the good people of the Queendom have something to celebrate. With the influx of Iskaran refugees and the ceasefire with Astoria, a number of wealthy lords and ladies are all too happy to see their trading ships once again passing safely through the proper channels.

Sorrows, sorrows, prayers as far as the Iskarans are concerned.

While the Lysaran elite plans their next move, what the common people need now more than ever is an ample distraction. And, of course, what better distraction is there than a celebration? For the Iskarans, this is a chance to ingratiate themselves into Lysaran culture and celebrate the fact that they got out of their Kingdom at all. For the wise, it’s a chance to make connections with the influential elite that they might otherwise never encounter.

Neptunalia has been celebrated in Lysara since the First Age, it’s this 1-week festival that venerates the God of the Seas and the tides.

In the modern era, it’s an excuse for the Lords and Ladies of Lysara to throw parties, bet on gladiators, compete in races, and engage in nautical contests.

While the Lady of Festivals will be organizing the event, the Mysterious "Master of Games" (everyone knows it's Arethusa's husband in a mask but most people are too polite to say ti to him) will be arranging a special event that will combine puzzles, mystical creatures, and explicit danger.

As always, the winners of these elaborate affairs will be greatly rewarded.

ooc info

Neptunalia will begin July 19th and will last IC for 10 days. However, the event itself will not be concluded on the main until August 2nd. Throughout the course of that time, we’ll have little competitions and events on Discord for players to engage in the various functions. They’ll rely on a blend of IC skill and of course, chance.

Muses who create and post an outfit aesthetic for the event will receive 500 gp as a boon from the Crown of Eterna. To quality, they MUST tag the inspo blog. Due date for the outfits is July 18th at 7pm EST.

More details to follow closer to the date - this is just what some people might be buzzing about.

Over seventeen thousand people have been murdered in Palestine.

Seven thousand of those are children.

There is nowhere safe in Gaza. Israel has bombed the exact places they told the Palestinians to evacuate to. Hospitals are running low on anesthetics and healthcare supplies. Food and water is in shortage.

There is nowhere for them to run.

Every day, more and more people are dying. More and more children.

Tomorrow, call off work. Join the protest. Don't stream off prime, netflix, hulu, max, etc.

Palestine needs you. Palestine needs us.

Isn't Trapper's nickname a euphemism for rape. I think that could have been explored more in depth in the show. And Hawkeye's hookups aren't always the paragon of enthusiastic consent either.

I haven't read the MASH book and I'm not sure how it is represented there but in the movie:

John McIntyre, Trapper John. Only man to find fulfillment in a Boston Maine Railway, in the- in the ladies can! Conductor opened the door, the girl looked out and yelled "Oh, he trapped me! Omigod, he trapped me!"

Unless I'm missing some historical context for the term that's used, "trapped" I don't know that this is rape. With that said, Trapper (and Hawkeye) in the film sexually harass Margaret, no two ways about it, so I can't say it would be OOC for movie Trapper. I'm not sure where the word "rape" came from in this instance but in my opinion, it's ambiguous. I'm totally open to being wrong if there is concrete evidence.

The incident is retconned out of the show, along with much of the cruelty they subject Margaret to - the primary target of public humiliation and shaming in the show Frank Burns (who in the movie is Margaret's only ally and exits the movie halfway through) and with how much character development Margaret gets, to me it seems a deliberate choice to reduce the volume and severity of abuse her movie counterpart endures. You would never catch movie HawkTrap helping Margaret sober up (Hot Lips and Empty Arms) or hide a body (Iron Guts Kelly). In Bombshells Trapper pointedly respects Margaret's "no", that's the crux of the whole episode. He also doesn't seem to enjoy or return her advances when she's blackout drunk in Hot Lips and Empty Arms.

Personally I don't see the value in this stuff being explored in the show. It's sort of addressed in Hepatitis when Margaret asks for "respect" and Hawkeye folds.

I'd actually argue there's more canonical proof from the show of Hawkeye not respecting consent than Trapper. They both kiss Margaret without her consent, Trapper in Rainbow Bridge and For the Good of the Outfit, Hawkeye in Dear Dad and There's Nothing Like a Nurse. I can't think of any more wrt to Trapper but Hawkeye kisses Frank once on the lips without his consent (twice if he caught him in For the Good of the Outfit - it's still sexual harassment even if he didn't), in Ceasefire Hawkeye seems to have promised himself romantically to multiple women, deceiving them so they'll sleep with him.

(I just wanna note that the Ceasefire example seems like a misstep - he's never actually shown misrepresenting himself that way, he's normally pretty up front with his casual hookups, and it never happens again. Seems like a bad subplot rather than something I'd call a recurring flaw)

I know we all love the 'pegging scene' in Carry on Hawkeye but making a big show of dropping your pants so your female coworker can give you a shot is harassment, he does it because he knows it'll make Margaret uncomfortable and he does the same thing again in Hepatitis when she calls him out.

But honestly I can't think of a single example other than Ceasefire where his hookups aren't enthusiastic on both sides. Like part of my problem with the Ceasefire example is that Margie Cutler is one of the women who thinks she'll be marrying Hawkeye after the war she flirts with both Trapper and Hawkeye in Requiem for a Lightweight, pimps out Hawkeye to her friend in Edwina like... girl you knew what this was??? So prior to that episode, she seemed to be pretty enthusiastic.

And honestly I push back pretty hard against the hookups being seen as unenthusiastic. There's plenty of nurses who happily make out with Trapper and I don't believe they're all unaware that he's married, he talks about it openly in OR - yeah that's infidelity and it's morally wrong but it doesn't mean there aren't two consenting adults.

Similarly I have a hard time believing that the nurses don't see Hawkeye with a different girl on his arm every week, they know what they're getting. One of the things I like a lot about early MASH is the sex is enjoyed by all - I value positive portrayals of female sexual pleasure in the 70s over fidelity to offscreen wives because of the historical context. Hollywood is still terrified of portraying cunnilingus and Hawkeye is constantly shaving for his dates. Could it be because he's very enthusiastically kissing women? I suppose. But knowing this show and Alan Alda in general, I dunno.

MASH did try to explore misogyny, it responded to early criticism and dropped some of flourishes it relied upon. That's good and bad imo. It's nice to not hear so many 'honeys' and 'sweethearts' in the OR, but I miss the casual fucking and sucking when it goes away.

We have Inga which gives us a very OOC Hawkeye imo being put in his place. Hepatitis which muddies about with some comparison of Hawkeye to Margaret's in-laws but is ultimately a sweet moment for Hawk-Margaret (really he comes to respect her over a longer period of time but I'll take it). Who Knew where Hawkeye whines about sleeping with Millie in lieu of acknowledging her interiority as though these are two entirely mutually exclusive things - a swing and miss imo. But then you have season 10's Cementing Relationships where Margaret spends the whole episode being sexually harassed and it's played completely for laughs - just because it isn't Hawkeye doing it anymore doesn't mean it's not wrong.

I do appreciate the attempts at addressing misogyny, even though I think it led to some big missteps, but I don't personally feel I missed out on anything by there not being an in-depth exploration of sex and consent. Sex and romance aren't really given much focus in general, so I don't think it would make sense to explore it very deeply.
