Amber eyes became impressively bright at the notion, even as another round of popping and flickering ensued. The idea that there might be a spirit nearby, creeping along behind them as they tip-toed through the abandoned building, made a wave of goosebumps ripple along the length of her arms.

"Quick, get your phone out!" She gave Cordelia's arm a harmless shake before she dug her own device. "We can record it and watch the footage back later!"

Her screen flashed, and within that same second, her camera had been activated. It was telling ( but not surprising ) that she had an even quicker shortcut to it, the phone panning across the small room they had entered moments ago.

"We should upload this too. If we don't notice anything, maybe someone else will."

The blonde pauses momentarily before reaching around her back to grab her bag, taking several pieces of paper out of it. Each paper has tiny notes and doodles scribbled on it, but Lynx offers it to the performer regardless. The cameras are a bit much, in her opinion, but she supposes video documentation probably would be better than her simple journaling.

" This is what I have regarding the mystery that is the Belobog Caveman. I've only caught a glimpse of it once, but I have managed to find spots it likes to frequent! "

While the explorer had no personal issue granting the request, she wasn't sure it would be a good idea-- or a safe one. Glancing at all the gear Guinaifen has, Lynx questions purely in concern.

Why is Aventurine Preservation-Imaginary?

(The real answer is, it's probably just HoYo filling out the path/element roster, but we'll play along!)

We'll tackle his element first. It's not the easier of the two, but it's the one with less info to sort through. The basic element types are:

Elements: wind, fire, ice, lightning

Sorta-abstract: quantum, imaginary

Physical: physical

It's a pretty funny system, all things considering. Here's Gepard, he can summon a massive wall of ice through will alone! Here's Dr. Ratio, he can make a massive tower just by thinking it into existence! Oh and here's Luka. Ordinary human. Pretty good at boxing.

(Not including Trailblazer here - probably the stellaron helps her swing that bat extra hard or something.)

And in the middle, you have Guinaifen, Hook, and Serval, who use the element but do not create it from scratch. For example, Serval is conceivably using electricity from her electric guitar.

Most of the elements are pretty self-explanatory, but Quantum and Imaginary are a bit more abstract. What are these types? What do they mean?

Quantum: technology, information, data, uncertainty

In my mind, Silver Wolf is the classic quantum character. She uses hacking to change data. In her hands, the data is always shifting. Fu Xuan is another direction that quantum can go - she's a diviner, and her job is peering into the future and making sense of the uncertainty. And then Qingque has elements of both: she works in divination, and also there is uncertainty in each hand of Celestial Jade.

Imaginary: Logic, abstraction, math/physics/metaphycs, theology

For some reason, Imaginary feels to me like dealing with the grand existential questions. There's Dr. Ratio on one end, knowledge is the measure of all things, and then there's Luocha with religious symbolism all over him, the devils, the church, the insanity in his character story, healing you with a cross necklace. Welt with his black hole - there's some kind of physics in there!

But this seems more like a philosophy than an element in battle. So in practice, what Imaginary characters have in common most of all is summoning miscellaneous objects 😅 black holes, dragons, chalk, etc.

So on that note, Aventurine fits right in, summoning dice and coins all over the place! Watch your he-ead~ 🎶🎵

I would've expected Aven to be Quantum. All the RNG in his kit. . . all the gambling, all the uncertainty. . . it seems more alike Qingque's tile suits. He even has card suits on his shields!

Perhaps the Imaginary is more about his character. Much of his story is intensely existential - what's the good of his blessing when everyone he loves is gone; why are we born if it's just to die. Perhaps he brings not just another answer, but a new way to see the question—not Why am I here, but All we have to decide is what to do with the time that is given us.

A more direct question that he himself discusses is why he's Preservation. We know he was offered the chance to become a Masked Fool, and seek Elation - the pursuit of happiness. Yet he turned it down.

As his alter-ego says, he and Preservation have nothing in common.

Interestingly, he also gives himself the answer.

He didn't choose the Preservation. Aventurine chose the IPC.

But wait—aren't the IPC the bad guys?

It is fascinating to me when people make out the IPC to be the villain of this tale, or talk about him "escaping" the IPC as if he's being held hostage. Not only did he choose the IPC, he gambled everything, including his life, just for a sliver of a chance to join them.

They didn't kill his family, enslave him, brand him, or make him kill 34 other slaves. Certainly, the IPC has used Aventurine's talents and self-destructive behavior to their benefit, and is not particularly concerned with what becomes of him. They are big, corporate, and easy to hate. But they are also not the cause of his tragedy.

It's not the IPC, but rather the Katicans, that kill Kakavasha's family. His sister describes them as "bloodthirsty, cruel, and insatiably greedy." Personally I can’t say with confidence that the Katicans are villains without knowing their full history, but either way, the conflict is between the Avgins and the Katicans.

My feeling is that the IPC is amoral - they are not actively out to do harm, but neither will they go out of their way to avoid or prevent it. They are focused primarily on profit. Sometimes that means taking over a planet against the people's will. Sometimes that means making gambles. . . or sacrifices. Other times, it means hosting an Aetherium event.

So, why does Aventurine choose the IPC? What's interesting to me is, he isn't a slave to the IPC in any sense - not even in the lack-of-choice sense of Topaz's planet. He had a choice. He could have become a Masked Fool. So, why?

It all comes back to this:

"Go ahead, use me as you wish, even stab me in the back if you see fit. Exploitation and treachery are simply tools of the trade. But remember, I don't make deals that don't pay off... So, I hope you don't disappoint me."

The IPC is a tool to him, a means to an end. He expects that the IPC will use him, and in exchange he intends to use the IPC.

But to what end?

It's got to be something big. He could have become a refugee or an ordinary IPC employee, and instead he took the risk of lying about Tayzzynronth's remains. He let himself be arrested and brought to Jade. "I bet you won't send me to the gallows." Death was a possibility, so it had to be worth that risk.

My guess is that he wanted to save the Avgin people.

(And in this sense, Preservation is his true path after all.)

His sister tells him, "As long as you are alive, the blood of the Avgin will never run dry." Perhaps his goal was to save the remaining Avgin people, bring them away from the land of rock and sand and hardly any rain, and give them a home where they could prosper. Or to environmentally transform his home the way the IPC transformed other planets. To do that, he'll need more money and power than an IPC grunt's income. But with a Stoneheart's power, the IPC's money, and the Intelligentsia Guild's knowledge, he could make that happen.

(It feels off. It feels like too simple of an answer.)

But the Avgin people are all gone. Aventurine specifically says there aren't any left. Now that his reason is gone, what will become of him?

In a way, he does offer us an answer.

Aventurine: There will come a day when the sky will drizzle, and I will hear the call of Gaiathra Triclops and know that it is time for me to go and be reunited with my family. Aventurine: So until the time comes... I should be preparing. Kakavasha: Preparing for what? Aventurine: Preparing to face them, Kakavasha, and to make them proud.

He will go on to live a good life. What form will it take?

I don't think he can ever completely shake off the responsibility of being the last surviving Avgin. It would be quite a leap for him to settle down and have a family, so perhaps he'll have to pass it forward some other way. Either by preserving the culture (another museum management event?) or by dedicating his wealth and power to saving other peoples.

The thing about being somewhere is, you can't help but grow into it, and it grows around you. And now, he has. . . allies who are a bit closer to friends than he might think.

He has two coworkers who willingly handed over their cornerstones for his plan—cornerstones more precious than life itself. He seems to genuinely look out for Topaz (advising her against getting involved in Belobog), and she talks about him cheerfully during 2.1. And I am sure that bringing him into the IPC was a significant personal risk for Jade, especially since he'd already caused the IPC a major financial loss. For Jade and Topaz, he has—if not their trust, at least their respect in his abilities.

And he has the Intelligentsia Guild's top Mundanite fussing over his survival. Not for the Avgin bloodline, and not for profit or the success of a mission. Acheron refers to Ratio as his “friend”, and he doesn’t bother to deny it.

He has three allies/maybe-friends involved in a grand scheme with him, and isn't there something addicting about scheming together? Something as marvelous as what the Trailblazer has with the Express? So, I don't think he'll leave the IPC anytime soon. He carved out this path with his bare hands, made a life and a purpose for himself, and even made some friends along the way. Now, it's time to live it.

I’m bored and so TGCF characters in HSR:

Xie Lian combat type remains imaginary his whole life but! Up until the battle with Jun Wu he is the path of The Harmony due to the cultivation path he chose. But at the battle, he switches to The Hunt which better suits his beliefs and fighting style as a martial god

Hua Cheng. wasn’t a pathstrider until he died I feel. Combat type physical and follows the path of Nihility or Eruditon as I feel they both fit his mindset

Feng Xin Preservation no doubt about it, as for combat type either physical or fire fit him best to me

Mu Qing Most likely started as The Harmony like Xie Lian but switched to Erudtion which better fits his strategic role. Combat type is most likely ice to me

He Xuan Destruction or Nihility, I’m leaning more towards Nihility rn but I’m still not sure, def quantum or just a new combat type to fit water. Nihility because they don't seem to care much and would probably prefer to spend all their time eating

Shi Qingxuan This one... this was is a slight toughie but! my first impressions are Nihility as she's quite similar to Guinaifen and Nihility follows 'meaningless behaviour' which given how self indulgent SQX is? It fits her

Ice officially clocks in as the most populous type while Imaginary is the least populous. Physical and Ice have only one path combination remaining while Fire, Lightning, Wind, and Imaginary have 2 path combinations left.

Quantum is the first type to have a unit of every path. Something else that is interesting is that Quantum is the only type to not have a unit that can innately apply its associated effect. We have DoT characters who can apply Burn, Shock, Shear, and Bleed; we have Ice characters who can apply Freeze; and Welt can apply Imprisonment, but no Quantum character so far can apply Entanglement as part of their kit.

Destruction has officially become the most populous Path, beating out Nihility with the addition of Misha. Preservation is still the least populous with only 3 units (not including Trailblazer). EDIT: I miscounted! Destruction only has 8 units and The Hunt actually has 6 units... sorry for the misinfo guys TT the rest of the counts should be accurate...

There are 3 Paths to have a unit of every Type: Nihility, Destruction, and now Harmony. Guinaifen completed the Nihility collection while Xueyi will complete the Destruction collection in 1.6. Sparkle will complete the Harmony collection in 2.0.

RARITY

Limited 5-Star: 17

Standard 5-Star: 7; Overall 5-Star: 23

In total there are 43 units in the game. As of 2.0 every path will have 2-3 limited 5-stars except Preservation (1). The Fire and Physical types only have one limited 5-star while Quantum has 4, the most limited 5-stars out of every type (most likely due to the absence of a Quantum standard 5-star). Most types have 3-4 4-star units except Wind (2) and Imaginary (1). Most paths have 3-4 4-star units besides The Hunt (2), Abundance (2), and Preservation (1).

OVERLAP

As of 2.0 there are now 4 overlaps in path/type. Previous ones are Ice+Preservation (Gepard & March 7th) and Lightning+Erudition (Serval & Jing Yuan). New overlaps are Wind+Nihility (Sampo & Black Swan) and Ice+Destruction (Jingliu & Misha). Ice now has 2 overlaps, mostly due to the fact that one of those overlaps was present upon release in the standard banner.

F child: 2

F short: 9

F med: 9

M short: 3

Assuming that Sparkle has an F short model and Black Swan has an F tall model, all female model types (besides the child model) will have an equal amount of units (9). The M tall model is still the most populous male model by a wide margin, but the M short and M med are now tied with 3 units each.

Both the Quantum and Fire types consist entirely of female models, although Quantum is more impressive as it has a unit of every path AND only consists of units with the F short or F med models. Imaginary is the only type where male models outnumber female models (4:1).

Each path has more female units than male units except Destruction and The Hunt which have perfect ratios (4:4 and 3:3, respectively).

OVERALL + OTHER THOUGHTS

I think I got out most of my thoughts in the last post but there's a new unit I really really want to talk about: Misha. I think Misha is a really interesting unit because he is our first unit in the game to be as non-unique as he is. Basically, I'll start out with the fact that Misha is not unique when we look at the combinations of model with Path or Type: Misha is an M short model, the other two being Yanqing, an Ice unit, and Arlan, a Destruction unit. Misha is an Ice+Destruction unit, which we already established is an overlap with Jingliu. Finally, Misha is a 4-star compared to Jingliu, a limited 5-star. While the other units that have overlapping combinations had the 4-star unit implemented before the 5-star (or the 5-star was only obtainable after the 4-star, in the case of March and Gepard), Misha is being introduced after Jingliu. This means Misha is actually our first unit to be introduced as an overlap with a decrease in rarity.

I think this makes Misha really interesting but also important to watch and see what hoyo does with him. On the one hand it's nice that they are introducing these combinations as 4-stars so players can obtain a dps of the type (especially since the only Ice dps in the game so far are Herta and Yanqing), but I think it'll also demonstrate how they handle units that will supposedly be "weaker" than units they have previously released. Or I'm just crazy and wrote an entire paragraph of nonsense (this is probably the correct option, especially since Jingliu is known to be busted).

I'm going to be very busy the next few weeks because I need to get our bedroom ready and painted, start on the baby room, finish the laundry room and the garden (which has been long overdo).

By the time I get on my laptop, I'm already too exhausted to write but so be it. I'm looking forward to getting these rooms ready because it will give me a piece of mind. I still have a lot of preparations to do before I can't move around as easily anymore so I'm going to try and get as much done as possible.

so for anyone who's struggling with the swarm enemies, i seriously recommend that you build imaginary characters, such as yukong or welt (if you actually managed to get him lol), or in my case, luocha. but since it would be incredibly difficult to just pull welt, we'll go with yukong since she's literally given for free (─‿─)

same with any quantum characters such as lynx or qingque, with the former being a healer so that will be a load off your shoulders. for fire, i use caelus but other characters you can use would be asta, guinaifen and hook. for physical, i use natasha since she also doubles as a healer, but there's also the option of the trailblazer, hanya, luka and sushang. and finally for ice, herta, march and pela can help tremendously. i use yanqing bc he's my son and also he's a stronk boye (๑˘︶˘๑)

but i'm really sorry that these specific enemies nonnie were such a hassle; they can be difficult since they just threw those bugs at us and i'm sure that not a lot of people have any imaginary characters on their team (Ｔ▽Ｔ)

To many, her life was one that was already pretty well traveled - coming from a foreign planet to make landfall on the Luofu and other ships of the Xianzhou Alliance was an adventure in and of itself! But plenty of times, it was pretty apparent that the myriad of situations that the other got himself into were waaay more vast. She wouldn't ask him to spill it all for a stream, but she was always down to hear out his troubles.

"Like simulated food? Were you playing some massive game or something?" Come to think of it, he did mention being on that big space station pretty often lately... space and space games made sense, right? "Do you want some actual food too - they're have a super big sale on lunchboxes over at Spices Supreme if you've got the stomach for it~."

Being called a lifesaver brought some laughter to her, triumphant jut of her chin following. What a charmer with his words, that Caelus was sometimes. "I can tell, I thought we were going to have to scrape you off of the table with a spatula or something with how fused you were looking!" She gave a little shake of her head, slight concern furrowing her brow after.

"That being said do you wanna talk about it? I'm an entertainer by trade but I can be a pretty good listener if you need it too~ Shangshang says I've got the best ears this side of the Xianzhou Alliance and besides, friends help each other out, right?"

"Rrrrghghghghgh..." As if he was a bundle of silvery darkness, that exhausted countenance of Caelus found life within the familiar. That was a voice that echoes sweetly off the mind, professionally on and off the lens of the sensational. Just the feeling of a cool, non-simulated beverage had made his hand lash over, abruptly grasping that bottle.

Gradually would he turn, allowing those weary eyes to peer up towards a familiar face. "After having to live off virtual food.. Gui, lemme tell ya, this is a goddamn godsend, in a bottle.."

Within moments he'd at least prop himself up. While hardly looking any better while being unflopped, that drink was a welcomed reprieve as the stir of his inner workings could be innate felt. In truth, he hadn't realized just how big of a swig he took.

"Pwaaah hah! Ooh sweet civilization how I missed ya!" A modest smile grows as he peeks up to the redhead.

"That goes for my lifesaver here too. I've.. seen some better days, if I'm being real. My bod felt like it's been running on rust n' fumes."

Still, what was the point of enjoying something special if you enjoyed it by your lonesome? She could have snacked away until it was nothing but crumbs on her fingers, but she snapped the snack in two and handed half over. "You were in line, so you should be able to try it too. Here, take it. I don't mind!"

Kafka, Lightning: Her strings have a similar colour to the lightning icon and so does her general design, it would be weird for her to be anything else. Also there's lightning in her animations so something is producing it

Lynx, Quantum: Literally nothing about Lynx feels quantum like her weapon is an ice pick and her healing stuff is physical objects...do you think Lynx and Pela are such good besties that they swapped types?

Topaz and Numby, Fire: Numby creates so much friction spinning like that it burns the enemy lmao (also the blaster Topaz uses might use lasers? It looks like a mix of money and some sort of beam)

Guinaifen, Fire: Girlie is literally throwing firecrackers at her enemies

Huohuo, Wind: If she waves that flag fast enough she creates a little gust of wind!

Argenti, Physical: Big spear hits multiple bodies, ouch (ignore the roses)

Hanya, Physical: This is the only physical character I can't explain like she's hitting her enemies with ink and chains that didn't exist two seconds ago...I think HYV just don't wanna give siblings the same type but she could've been imaginary

Ruan Mei, Ice: ...Maybe it matches her personality? Or it's a women of the Genius Society thing?

Dr. Ratio, Imaginary: Nobody actually believes the building he's dropping is real, right?

Xueyi, Quantum: This is another one that I can't put into words but just makes sense to me, something about the chains just materialising and the colours

TL;DR - If in doubt, look at their weapon and how they use it, except sometimes that doesn't explain anything either (if that's the case...look at their hair colour maybe...?)

Feel free to offer corrections or further explanations bc obviously I don't have everyone so I'm mostly going off what I can see from their animations

In genshin and hsr who are your favorites? It can be a category or fave from each body type/gender/element whatever and to balance it out, do you have any hsr/genshin characters you don't vibe with doesn't have to be outright hate but just not your fave either be story/design/personality or any reason really

I love her dearly, and I think her design is stunning. The only reason I give her such a neutral rating is because the story hasn't really let me connect with her yet. She still feels like a stranger despite being with us the longest, and I really want more content focused on her, her past and other Trailblazers she's known.

Design wise, I love her. I love Numby, and I think she was the perfect way to introduce us to the higher ups of the IPC. I just don't really care much for her character. I don't connect with her, but I don't dislike her either. I want to see her and Aventurine interact more in the future, I need to know if they're friends or they hate each other's guts.

Biased because baby boy carried my ass from the start up until Aventurine knocked him off my main team. E3 with his signature Lightcone, the gatcha gods have pushed us together. Design wise I think he's rather dull, but he's a wonderful brother and I just want to squish his cheeks and tell him he's doing a good job.

One of the best designs in the game, but I feel like so much of her story was ignored in place of Blade and Dan Heng. I want more of her, I want to see her what she was like before everything went down. Give me more Jingliu lore Hoyo.

I would have given her a 9/10 before I did the cat cake quest, but after seeing how she treated those precious babies (I am a massive cat person) I was just so upset. I know that's dumb, and I do enjoy that Hoyo gave us a genuinely morally gray character. I just love cats too much-
