Made some reference sheets of Konda and Sukari roughly one year post-Calamity!
~~
During the Calamity, Konda and Sukari were hit with a Guardian beam. Miraculously, they both survived, but not without life-changing injuries. Konda lost his left wing, and the residual blast hit his face and made him lose his sight and hearing on the left side of his face. Scar tissue prevents Konda’s feathers from growing around his face and the end of his missing arm, leaving bald patches. Konda keeps both areas covered with custom-made leather armor. While he claims otherwise, the scars and missing wing have taken a huge toll on his confidence. He hides the Calamity scars away so he won’t be reminded of his own image, both in his reflection and in how others look at him.
(The scars on Konda’s arm are actually not from the Calamity, they are from a different incident)
The blast Sukari took hit both of her legs, leaving her talon-less. She took far longer to recover from her injuries than Konda did, remaining comatose for a week and a half following the Calamity. While her tail feathers were also hit by the blast, the roots were not damaged, allowing her tail feathers to eventually regrow. The other injuries Sukari sustained were minor in nature.
After the Calamity, engineers worked with Sukari to create prosthetic legs. She was well-aware that she and Konda were not the only ones to lose limbs during the tragedy, and so she happily volunteered to be a test subject for their multiple designs for prosthetics. Eventually, she ended up with the model pictured above, which ended up being used for all of the Rito who lost legs during the tragedy.
Unlike Konda, Sukari has not lost her ability to fly, though she still has difficulty landing at times even with the prosthetics. If Sukari is only walking short distances or is walking around the village, she will use the railings in Rito Village to help her get around. However, she has special crutches that she uses whenever she needs extra support or whenever she leaves the village.

Legend of Zelda starters | Accepting!
@muses-of-the-multiverse asked: ❝ they were all good people…my people. ❞ (Reyna: Failed Divine Beast, pre-calamity with Sukari or Konda, if you don't mind. :3)
Tumblr media
Konda was silent as he listened to Reyna’s words. They were so heartfelt, he had no doubt that she cared deeply for her kind. He turned to the shelf of books that sat in his roost, his expression solemn.
“Reyna,” Konda spoke up, “I’m sure you know by now, but I am the village’s storyteller, and by proxy its historian. It’s my job to pass on the knowledge of Hyrule’s history to the younger generations so it’s never lost to time.” He stepped further back into his roost, and with a small gesture offered Reyna a seat. “If it’s not too much to ask, I’d like for you to tell me about your people. They sound as though they were once a proud, magnificent race.”

@regnantlight asked:  "Rito Village has appeared to be one of the places which has changed very little," Zelda said, with smile that pulled faintly at the edges of her lips. She took a breath and forced them further upward, turning to the Rito across from her. "I hear you are a bit of a storyteller, Konda. I would very much love to hear one of your tales."
Tumblr media
“Yeah, Rito Village tends to be one of those places that gets stuck in its ways.” He chuckled. “Call us old-fashioned or stubborn, but there’s a lot of folks in the village who don’t exactly take to change very well.”
Once Zelda mentioned his storytelling, a confident gleam slid across his beak. “Oh? It seems my reputation precedes me.” He snickered, toting a prideful smirk that seemed awfully reminiscent of the Rito Champion’s. “You got any you’re hankerin’ to hear? Like a legend about Hyrule itself, or perhaps one of the ones about Rito Village’s history? Or maybe you don’t want to hear of legends, but just a plain old tale of heroism instead?” He spread his wings wide with a haughty laugh. “I’m chock-full of stories, Your Highness. If you’re aching for a tale, I’m your go-to Rito!”

@bransles  ♥’d for a starter!
Growing bored of waiting around her father’s stand, Kova began to wander the streets of Hyrule’s Marketplace. It had been her first time to this town, and her first time so close to the castle, and she and her brother were growing antsy. Thankfully, their father had given them permission to wander as long as they stayed safe and returned back before high noon. Having brought his lute with him, Fitch had decided to sit in the square and perform for some of the Hylians for a bit of extra pocket change. Kova however, was much more interested in the winding paths of the town and decided to go exploring.
Up and down she went, and after a good half hour, Kova found herself catching the strums of a lute in the distance. She had yet to see other performers in the street, and had assumed it was her brother strumming along. She hummed quietly alongside the melody, unconsciously following the tune until she rounded a corner and found the source.
“Hey Fitch, that’s a new song. Where did you--?”
Kova screeched--a bit louder than intended--when she realized that the music was not coming from her brother, but instead a... Hylian? She assumed it was a Hylian, but she had never seen one with... gray skin. Realizing she had yet to apologize for her outburst, Kova quickly gave the stranger a quick bow. “I-I’m sorry, Sir! I-I thought you were my brother!”

PRE-CALAMITY: THE RITO WARRIOR
After the Calamity struck, Rito Village was devastated when they lost their legendary champion. It hit Konda especially hard, the elder Rito having loved Revali like his own son. After coping with the loss of their champion, Konda wanted to make sure that Revali’s tale was never lost to time. So, he began to tell stories of the legendary Rito warrior Revali, who at his young age accomplished many great feats that no other Rito had ever done before. By telling his tale, Konda felt that he was able to keep Revali’s memory alive, and he hoped that one day, it may inspire the youth to become a brave and valiant warrior, just as their champion once was…

“Your jewelry is gorgeous, Your Highness...” Sukari’s wing bobbed back and forth, stuck between wanting to get a closer look and wanting to respect Mipha’s personal space. She eventually pulled her wing to her chest, clutching her chest ornament tightly as her wide eyes noted every detail of her apparel. “It’s so much different than what the Rito wear...”
She suddenly tensed as her own words processed in her mind. “N-not that you’re not gorgeous, Your Highness! You are absolutely stunning! I, ah--!” Flustered hooting escaped her beak. Her mind scrambled to think of what else to say. “Y-your jewelry... i-it was made specifically for you, r-right?”
She mentally slapped herself. That was the question she went with!? Of course it was made for her, otherwise she wouldn’t be wearing it! Sukari laughed anxiously, her other wing moving up to clutch the ornament as well. Goddess knows what the princess was thinking of her after she babbled on with random nonsense!

PRE-CALAMITY: FAMILIAL BONDS
Konda and Sukari are one of the few people in Rito Village who do not address Revali with any formal titles. Even though they are not related by blood, they consider Revali to be their eldest son and treat him with the same love that they would treat their own fledglings. This has also led to Kova and Fitch forming a strong bond with the Rito Champion, so much so that they refer to him as “Big Brother Revali” whenever they speak of him.
