      “Oh no ye don’t!”

      With a whip of his talon, Konda took down a bokoblin who dared get too close to him. Ganon’s monsters were coming in droves, and as the battle dragged on, the harder and harder it was becoming to stave them off. Their numbers had grown so many that Konda couldn’t get enough space to fly off. If he’d only been able to get some distance between him and the beasts he could get airborne and finally get the upper hand. Even with the people of Hyrule all fighting together, Ganon’s minions somehow seemed to outnumber them at every turn. Had it not been for the more experienced fighters aiding them, they wouldn’t have stood a chance. 

      Just before another beast could throw its weapon down at Konda, a wave of arrows rained down, taking down a good handful of the beasts with pinpoint precision. That kind of archery skill could only come from one Rito. Konda looked up, a proud smile on his face as he watched Revali soar overhead. Yet, his expression immediately dropped at the sight of a Guardian Scout’s target reticule aimed directly at Revali. Even with it being so small in comparison to the larger Guardians hovering around, Konda had seen firsthand what those lasers could do.

      “Revali, look out!” Konda pulled out an arrow, aiming it directly at the machine’s eye. The lasers seemed to come out from those eyes, so if he managed to destroy it, he would eliminate the biggest threat in the immediate moment. Ready, aim...

      FIRE!

      With a loud, grating screech, Konda could see his arrow hit its target dead-center. A large flash emanated from the machine, and within seconds, it exploded, screws and bolts flying every which way. Konda shielded himself from the flying debris, giving a haughty chuckle at his small victory. That was the first time he’d taken out one of those Guardians, even though it was only a scout. Their eyes must’ve been their weakness!

      SLICE!

      A piercing pain ripped through Konda. For a split second, the Rito blacked out, but as he came back to, the horrifying realization of what had happened set in. With his wings trembling over the weapon, Konda looked down at the spear head protruding from his abdomen.

      Oh no...

REVALI​:

       A welcomed pain as the Rito Champion found himself enveloped in an embrace. Seldom did he allow others so close, but Konda was important to him & thus he allowed the contact, even melting as the elder Rito celebrated  their  victory. Revali knew well that he wouldn’t have been able to pull off such an achievement alone. Those who went to combat against the droves of monsters deserved just as much credit as he did.

                                       “ We  ALL  did it. ”

       Expression softened at the mention of pride & he turned,  REFUSING  to allow Konda to see the tears that welled in his eyes. It’d been a long time since he’d received such words & it was the one thing that Revali  wanted  to hear so desperately. Shaking his head, Revali risked a glance at his companion.      “ Come on, let’s get cleaned up. You’re more of a mess than usual. ”

      Konda laughed, a wave of relief washing over him. Hearing the Revali he was so familiar with gave him that extra reassurance that everything was going to be alright, and that their champion hadn’t been hurt too badly during the fight. Konda brushes the feathers on the top of his head, as if slicking them back. “I dunno, I think it gives me the kind o’ attractive, war-torn look. Sukari would be head-over-heels fer this.” He bantered. While he would have loved to see his wife fawn over him, she was more likely to freak out and worry, sad to say.

      Konda pulled back, hands on his hips as he stretched his back as far as he could. “Whoo boy! I think that’s the most I’ve ever moved these muscles! These ol’ bones are certainly gonna be feelin’ it tonight!” He relaxed, slouching over as he let out an exhausted sigh. “I dunno about you, lad, but I may have ta stay at a stable tonight. I don’t think these wings are gonna be carryin’ me ta Rito Village tonight...” While Konda would have loved to try and show off and pretend he wasn’t worn-out, after he and the people of Hyrule fought waves of Hinoxes, Lynels, Taluses, Guardians, and Hylia knows what else, he figured he’d earned a moment of humility.

      “Ya did it!!” There was little warning when a larger body was thrown on top of Revali. Konda’s strong arms were wrapped tightly around the champion, laughing wholeheartedly as he embraced the younger Rito. He didn’t care at all that both he and Revali were still covered in the dirt, grime, and blood of battle--he was too filled with excitement and joy to keep his space. It was over. It was finally over.

      “I knew yer could do it, Lad!” Konda gave one last squeeze before pulling back to look at Revali, his face brimming with joy. Were those... tears in his eyes? His wings gently rested on Revali’s shoulders, he gave the Rito a warm smile.

      “I’m so proud o’ yer, Revali.”

      “Oh, Revali~!” Sukari eagerly flew over to the Rito champion, landing a few feet in front of him. She seemed very excited. “I just got back from a little getaway trip to Gerudo Town. I’ve got to say, it was such a lovely experience, and a nice little getaway from the winter cold. I’m so jealous of you, with your duties as Champion you probably get to visit their cute little town all the time, even despite being a... Voe? Is that how they said it?” The last bit was more to herself than to Revali.

      “Poor Konda didn’t get to come in, but he escorted me all the way to the village.” She giggled. “You should have seen him huffing and puffing. He claims he was worried about me, but I’m willing to bet he was a bit jealous, too.” Or it could have possibly been the fact that guards pulled their spears on him when they got close, but Revali didn’t need to know that detail. “I’m sure you stole the breaths of all the young ladies there!”

      “Easily a ten outta ten. Let’s just say, me gut knows when I’ve come across a trustworthy Rito.” Or at least, that was how Konda was choosing to word it. He knew Revali would be too embarrassed by his real reasoning: The fact that someone as proud as Revali trusted him enough to confide in him... that was enough to wash away any doubts he might have had about Revali. Not that he had many to begin with--the princess wouldn’t have chosen him as the champion if she didn’t believe him. Mix those with all the acts of kindness Revali had done for him, and Konda knew he could trust him with anything.

      While Konda had been hoping that Revali would join them for the holiday, he admittedly hadn’t expected the present that Revali had brought to them. It melted his heart to see him coming with the basket and blanket that they’d gotten for him before, a sense of pride welling up knowing that Revali was getting good use out of his presents. But when the sweet scent of desserts caught his nose, Konda began salivating. Revali was quite the dessert connoisseur, which was shocking to Konda when he’d first tried them. Revali trained from dawn to dusk, so he couldn’t help but wonder where in the world Revali found the time to perfect his cooking craft.

      “Merry Christmas, Lad!” Konda was grinning from ear tuft to ear tuft. He gently took the basket from Revali. “Come, come! Sit by the fire!”

      “Oooh, are those desserts?!” Kova and Fitch were darting over to greet the champion when the scent caught their noses as well.

      “Aye, Revali brought them all fer us ta share.”

      “Uwaaah! they smell so good!”

      “What do you say, you two?” Sukari called from the back, where she was plating the freshly-prepared dinners for everyone.

      “Thank you, Big Brother Revali!” The kids chimed together.

      “Aye, thank ye indeed!” Konda could already feel his stomach rumbling. “Hope ya saved room in that stomach o’ yers!”

      It may have been silly to say, but when Revali had offered for Konda to join him in his travels, Konda was more than excited. It wasn’t often that the two of them got to go out and do things like this, what with Revali being at his training and Konda taking care of his family and his duties at home, so without hesitation, the elder agreed. As they prepped for the flight out, he was surprised when Revali pulled out a scarf and began to put it on him. It admittedly made his heart flutter. Such a small gesture, but it meant the world to him. 

      But then, a second scarf got wrapped around him. Kind of odd, but whatever, Konda decided to roll with it. Then a third... Alright. This was getting a little strange. Then a fourth... and by the time the fifth scarf started getting wrapped around Konda, the fluttery feeling was now replaced with concern. Amused concern, but still concern, nonetheless.

      “Er... Lad, I appreciate yer enthusiasm as much as the next Rito, but... this might be a lil’ overkill.” He commented as a sixth scarf went around him. “I know I’m up there in me age, but I’m nae gonna freeze over that easily.” He couldn’t help but let out an awkward chuckle as the seventh scarf went on. “It takes a lot more than a lil’ bit o’ chilly weather ta take out this ol’ bird!”

      Konda jolted a little bit when he heard Revali’s voice. Dang it! He was hoping to have the wound patched before anyone could see what had happened, and of course, of all the people in Hyrule, Revali would be the one to find him injured.

      “Ahh, don’t worry about it, Lad.” The elder tried to brush off his injury as best he could while simultaneously doing his best to hasten his bandaging so Revali wouldn’t question him further. “Just a wee bit o’ a scuffle wit’ some lizalfos is all. It happens, not much ye can do about it.”

PRE-CALAMITY: FAMILIAL BONDS

Konda and Sukari are one of the few people in Rito Village who do not address Revali with any formal titles. Even though they are not related by blood, they consider Revali to be their eldest son and treat him with the same love that they would treat their own fledglings. This has also led to Kova and Fitch forming a strong bond with the Rito Champion, so much so that they refer to him as “Big Brother Revali” whenever they speak of him.
