alhaitham , ayato (separate) x male!reader
cw : fluff!
— pretty boy
: how would alhaitham and ayato comfort their insecure s/o?
ALHAITHAM
when alhaitham sees you in the mirror staring at your own face, he sighs. you’ve done this countless of times since the two of you started dating.
a while ago, you’d admitted to alhaitham that you felt insecure of yourself. you kept complaining about the features you have and whatnot. alhaitham could only listen silently, not wanting to seem insensitive and interrupt you while you were ranting.
alhaitham isn’t one to go for looks. he solely believes that a person’s qualities lies on the inside, not the outside. however when it came to you, in alhaitham’s eyes, you were beautiful inside and out.
he knows and is aware that he had a way with words. alhaitham isn’t the best at expressing himself through words, opting to show affection through actions.
but he’d try for you.
alhaitham approached you slowly before wrapping his arms around you. “my dear, you know you’re beautiful, right?”
you, already close to tears due to all the bad thoughts in your mind, sniffled.
the man continued. “throughout my life, i have never seen anyone with your beauty. your features are so unique and beautiful that i can’t help but fall in love with them.”
alhaitham delicately lifted your chin, your eyes meeting his. he smiled softly, a smile reserved only for you. carefully alhaitham brushed away your tears before kissing your cheeks.
“everything about you is perfect. your beauty is incomparable, my love. i’m very lucky to have you by my side,” alhaitham says, turning your body towards him. “if you saw yourself through my eyes, you’ll understand what i mean.”
you finally crack a smile, albeit slightly crooked, before lightly pushing him away. “stop it. it’s so weird having someone so authoritative say such words.”
alhaitham replies, “i’m only speaking the truth. i don’t think there’s anything wrong with that.”
you laugh.
indeed, alhaitham would always find you amazing. even if you deny it, even if you forget it, he’ll be there to remind just how perfect you are to him.
AYATO
nobody can understand kamisato ayato, the ever refined and elegant head of the kamisato clan. it’s hard to tell if he has hidden motives behind his actions.
many people are cautious around him. even you, his cute little s/o. though it’s rare.
everyone in inazuma views this man like he’s some deity. and you can see why. ayato is responsible, graceful in his words and actions and most of all, he’s beautiful.
this is why you can’t understand why ayato chose you out of all people to be his boyfriend.
you didn’t come from a distinguished clan, just some small humble family living on the coasts of narukami island. you’d met ayato while he was roaming around the island. the two of you hit off and your relationship progressed into what it is now.
ayato didn’t care about your upbringings or family. he didn’t care that you weren’t some prominent figure in inazuma. he loved you for who you were.
the other clans, however, couldn’t accept you.
they said that you had nothing to offer. you didn’t have status, you didn’t have money, you didn’t even possess the ability to bear children.
everyone in the elite society of inazuma despised you. and you just sucked it up
because you believed that what they said about you was true. and that led to endless nights of you crying yourself to sleep, wanting to drown out all their voices in your head.
at first, ayato was oblivious to this all. the nobles didn’t dare talk bad about you in front of him because they know what’s he’s capable of. but once he leaves, they stab you with harsh words.
it was thoma who informed ayato about everything and without a moment wasted, ayato rushed to you.
at the time, you had already fallen asleep. ayato quietly crept up to your bedside. he notes the tear stains on your cheeks and promised to make the nobles pay.
ayato gently peppers your face with soft kisses, waking you up in the process of doing so.
“ayato..?” you mumble half-asleep.
“it’s me darling,” ayato says back in a tone so soft that it almost makes you cry again. “i’m sorry i didn’t realise earlier.”
you sat up and ayato sits on the bed.
“i’m sorry ayato. i just don’t think i’m worthy. those elites are right, i don’t deserve to be beside you. you’re so amazing and i—“
“— am amazing too,” ayato finishes for you. he cups your cheek and brings your forehead to his. “no matter what they say, no matter what they think, no one is worthy of being my partner other than you. no one.”
you can’t help but cry again.
yes, nobody can understand kamisato ayato. however, now you can, even if it’s just a tiny bit.

Dear Kaeya,
This will never reach you. I assume it will be consumed by a whale or any other sea creature of sorts. I hope it’s not a catchable fish that people eat; then it might actually resurface. Whatever, it’s unlikely to get back to you anyway.
I don’t know what to say. I’m going to run out of ink if I keep letting it go dry on my quill from hesitation. You would laugh and say that’s unlike me to hesitate. It is. I didn’t hesitate when I left the Knights of Favonius, I didn’t hesitate to attack you, I didn’t hesitate to leave Mondstadt. Why is it so hard for me to write what I mean, then? It doesn’t make sense. You would probably give me some bullshit answer for it.
I don’t understand. Why did you have to hide it, for so long? I hate not knowing. You blindsided me, Kaeya. I thought you were all that I had left of my family, and then you told me even that wasn’t true. I don’t care that you were sent to be some spy. I care that you lied to me, just like everyone else did. Why did you have to be like everyone else?
Whatever. It’s not like you can answer anyway. This was a horrible idea. I’m nowhere near done with my ink. I have plenty of paper left, it would be a waste to not use it all. Remember that one woman we talked to a few weeks ago? She always wrote down everything. She said it made her feel better. I don’t think this is making me feel better. I think it’s making me feel, and that’s worse than pretending like the pain doesn’t exist.
I wonder if Father knew about your eye. Did you ever tell him? Or would you lie to me about that, too? It hurts. It makes me so angry, Kaeya. Did you even care? He treated you like a son, and I to you a brother. You always reciprocated. How much of it was a lie? How did you grow up to be such a shitty spy when it was your own purpose in our household? I don’t know what you’re doing now. I don’t know how I feel about it, which is worse. Your blood on my hands. Your Vision, it gave me frostbite, and it caused me to not feel your blood anymore.
Good-bye, for now. I have plenty of paper and plenty of bottles. People are careless and leave their destruction everywhere. I suspect I will live just fine on my own. It would be more convenient, I guess, if I had my Vision to light a fire. Father’s Delusion does the same job. It just hurts my hands. It’s the strangest feeling. Pyro never hurt me. Does your Cryo? I’m sure it hurt when you received it.
Good-bye,
Diluc Ragnvindr
—
Dear Kaeya,
I burned the last paper I tried to write this on with the Delusion by accident. It’s hard to control this thing. It’s my legacy, though. It replaces where my Vision should be, even though it doesn’t feel the exact same. I can feel the tug of my Vision sometimes, especially when I’m using Father’s Delusion. You never saw it, the way he manipulated the Delusion. It was like an art form, but he pushed himself too far. He didn’t get to use it enough. I will not be like him. I will hone this weapon if it is the last thing I do in this world, which I assure you, it won’t be.
It’s not the Fatui I’m after. Well, part of it is them, yes. It can’t all be them, though. There is more to this situation than meets the eye. It was crazed, vicious more than any creature could possibly be. It was sent to Mondstadt, I’m sure. If it weren’t for Father, many people would have died. The Knights wouldn’t have been able to handle it.
I don’t miss being Cavalry Captain. Looking back on it, it only held me back. I imagine you have taken my position, if you still stayed in the Knights. You probably did. What, to spite me? You will only hinder yourself, in that case. Unless you plan on making the Ordo keep you more honest. I can’t imagine they’d let you stay if they knew the truth.
Kill Eroch for me. I can’t think of anything else to say. Just kill him. If I see him, I’ll do it myself.
Diluc R.

Kaeya
I can’t stop thinking about your eyes. The golden one, and the blue one. No, not the left eye. Your new, blue Vision, the eye of God. It doesn’t match your traitor eye at all. It makes sense. Do you have my eye? Do you look at it, to see if I’m okay? It must’ve scared you to see it go pretty dull for a moment. I hope you tried to destroy my Vision. It would make me feel less guilty. What was the point? I’m sorry, I’ve forgotten.
Diluc
—
Dear Kaeya,
I burnt all of my paper by accident. I had to stop and get new ones, and then ink and a pen. It’s strange in Liyue. I mean, we’ve been before, but it’s different this time. I have a new outlook on it. I’m alone and searching for something that’s both abstract and very real at the same time. I have not forgotten the language, thankfully. I can keep conversation well while simultaneously leading myself on with my search.
The locals make me a little angry. My temper seems to worsen these days, which doesn’t appeal to many people. When I reveal that I’m from Mondstadt, I’ve had more than a few locals go on to tell me about how they disapprove of the Anemo Archon’s decision, about how we are a godless nation. I find the irony in it unamussing when I relate it back to you. It’s also fairly unamussing in general. Despite having left, I still love Mondstadt. After hearing it for the third time, I may have engaged in an argument with a man about Mondstadt’s freedom and Liyue Harbor’s strict rules. If it were not for the fact that I had a Delusion and still struggle to summon its power, I’m sure the other man would’ve had scorch marks over his body.
The food here tastes very good. I’ve never been a man to like foreign foods very much, but everything seems different in the flesh of it all. I just have to find the right place, and it really ends up not being too much different than home. No matter my foreign looks, accent, and such, I am still served in the same manners any other local would be. I’ve noticed the water tastes differently as well. Different sources wield different tastes. I became used to the water in Mond, but in Liyue, it is so much different. I can’t say I like it, but I don’t intend to stay for much longer. I suspect I’ll be back, but that is just to move from one place to another. The Harbor is like a hub of activity for all foreign nations. I can easily catch a boat from here to there.
The history here is rich. That never bored you, did it? It was your favorite lesson. Aside from insulting Mond, the history of Liyue is one of the most favored topics. I believe I can learn a lot from the Harbor, from business to the creation of the world. I don’t have time for this right now, but one day, I’d like to be able to sit and embrace all of it. Discuss the cultural wines with the brewers, the history of the Adepti that protect the lands, and the business to contract marketplace that the Harbor runs on. Favors, it seems, that just happen to coincide with contracts, are what make the normal citizens trust each other. The crime rate is lower here, also. It’s something that was brought up in the Mondstadt versus Liyue debate. Personally, the stricter rules make the city feel tightened, like I can’t move.
The music here is very different from Mondstadt’s. It’s not better or worse– just different. Their style of singing is more in the grandeur type, with an elevated stage with the paying people below it. Operas and concerts. They feel less personal, and the singing flows like a river. It’s extravagant, obviously well-tuned with a number of background instrumental musicians playing to support the main singer or musician. It is similar to the bards by what the music is about. They tell stories of their Adepti. While there are other people who do something similar, just not in the singing way. Story-tellers, very simply. Personally, if I wanted to hear a story, I would want to hear the whole thing in one sitting and not have to wait for a few days for the story-teller to tell the next part of the story.
It’s amazing what I never knew about Liyue Harbor. I used to think I knew so much. Cavalry Captain at fifteen, Vision at eleven. I thought I knew the world. Liyue reminds me of how much I really don’t know. You need to come to Liyue Harbor sometime, and see it the way I do. I think you could benefit from the experience. Their Archon is much closer, they even speak to him once a year. Rex Lapis, they call him. You would have many questions for him, I have no doubt.
Sincerely,
Diluc Ragnvindr

Dear Kaeya,
I’ve been on a ship before, but this is something entirely new. The Crux, an armed fleet of all-but-in-name pirates, possibly the most infamous fleet in all of Teyvat, is nothing like I expected it to be. It is well-maintained, and I do not doubt their prowess on the seas they rule over. They are just much different than I imagined.
Talking can get you far, and skipping over unnecessary dialogue, I’ve learned, can get you even further. Saying the right things to the right people without any fluff in-between is how I was able to get on this ship, free of charge outside of the labor I must perform during the journey from Liyue to Inazuma. It’s truly amazing, Kaeya. The crew is very welcoming, if not eccentric in their ways. Typical of pirates, they drink to their heart's content, more than I’ve seen any drunkard in Mondstadt. Insane alcohol tolerances and were more than a little upset when I wouldn’t have my fair share.
I believe the captain of this crew is what surprised me the most. She wears an eyepatch like you. Except, her story is completely different than yours. She claims she had a vicious battle with a very angry, very large sea crab that tried to take something she had actually stolen– she didn’t word it as stolen, but that was what she did– from the Tianquan Ningguang. I’m not inclined to believe any of what she’s said, even after the kindness she’s shown me. I have you and Eroch to thank for that.
I don’t mean to be bitter. It’s just so easy. This dark sea is making me think about the winery, and with it all the reasons I’m aboard this ship in the first place. Inazuma is a few days away. I don’t know how long I can sit with these brooding thoughts, stewing in my own mixed emotions. All I can feel is anger most of the time, until I sit down to write. Then, my hand doesn’t want to move, and I’m left to think about what I’m really feeling.
I don’t know what I want to say to you. Who is in the wrong for what happened that night? You hurt me a lot with what you said, and the day you chose to do it. I needed you.
—
Dear Kaeya,
Captain Beidou introduced me to something called “depression.” It can be caused by the loneliness of the sea. She says that staying on ships for too long causes accidents to happen to crewmates. Or rather, they let the accidents happen. They want to feel something outside of the dark sea. The ship can get too quiet, even for its rowdiness. People don’t see their families on the land often.
I don’t buy it, but she forced me to participate in activities to prevent this depression from sinking in. I had to take pictures, do these very strange exercises that I can safely say I never want to do again. I painted for the first time as well. I don’t know where she managed to get the much paint from. There is another significant figure on the ship as well, named Kazuha. He led poetry lessons. I’ve never been a fan of poetry.
Captain Beidou has an Electro Vision, and he has an Anemo Vision. Though, that’s not all he has. He has something called a Masterless Vision, which can only be created when the owner of a Vision has passed on. He holds two Visions, a strange phenomenon. If I had kept my Vision, would it hold the same effect if I also kept my Delusion? I can use both, separately. I have never tried at the same time. After all of my time in Mondstadt and Liyue, I still know fairly little about Delusions. What I do know is enough to keep me from dying.
The crew has told me an answer to my question that keeps resurfacing whenever I look into the ocean. I didn’t ask them, I just observed and learned from the way they interact. Who is in the wrong for that night? Neither of us, or both of us. You shouldn’t have betrayed and lied to me. I shouldn’t have tried to kill you and abandon you. I don’t know what I would say to you if I could see you now. My hand wants to write something, but my brain won’t supply anything. What is there to say, except admit our wrongdoings? Are you searching for the truth, too?
Good night,
Diluc R.
—
Dear Kaeya,
Inazuma is stifling. It’s beautiful, I can’t deny that. From the shapes of the clouds to the subtle purple tint to the land, everything appears to be quite breath-taking. That is where the excitement ends.
The Omnipresent God, they call the Raiden Shogun. This nation is the opposite of Liyue Harbor. The air is static, the government is imposing, and I always feel like there is someone watching me. I hide in the shadows. I shouldn’t be anywhere outside of Ritou, anyway, yet I’ve managed to make it to Inazuma City. This may be a mistake on my part, but I think I can get somewhere with this. I have already been able to steal a fair share of Inazuman clothing, so I can get around the city just fine as long as I stay out of the way. It is better if I am not seen regardless.
I have a few days until the Crux leaves again, this time to Snezhnaya, the land of the land of the Fatui. I have seen a few diplomats here, because they are able to pass by the Sakoku Decree, which we both knew about prior. They are still not well-liked by the citizens, but that is a given. None of the locals seem to like foreigners at all.
Inazuma, the Land of Eternity. The name makes Inazuma sound almighty, powerful, above-all. You and I bought into it. Inside the city, it makes the preconceived notion laughable. Kaeya, the nation is in shambles. The marketplace has monopolies scattered for every item, the prices extremely high that causes everyone outside of the military officials– one of the three commissions in the Tri- Commission– to starve. They are hostile to anyone that isn’t like them. They don’t like anyone who points out just how horrible the situation is.
There is a permanent storm in Inazuma. It started when the Crux reached the edge of the ocean that belongs to Inazuma. It fits the Electro Archon. The lightning cackled constantly in the sky, and it never stopped raining. In the little bits of privacy I could have on the Crux, I used my Delusion to dry myself off. It never did much, and it was of little comfort, but it helped hone my abilities with the Delusion. I have more control, and it doesn’t hurt anymore. It only hurts when I overextend and lose the tight fist I have on it.
In regards to my search, I have not faltered. I think I have something with these three Fatui Diplomats that like to talk just a little too much. I haven’t been discovered yet. I hear the talk of the Harbingers, officers of the Fatui with absolute control and mad power. Better than that, I have heard that there is a group of people causing Fatui great amounts of trouble.
The Crux leaves in a day for the next nation, Snezhnaya. That is where I need to go. Kaeya, my Pyro Vision left me resistant to the cold. I wonder if my Delusion can hold up the same.
Sincerely,
Diluc Ragnvindr

Captain Beidou, very irritatingly, has found out about my letters to you and insists that she carry one out to the person I am writing to. She says the bottles won’t work, and I told her that that was the whole point. Under the very real threat that I get thrown overboard, I am being forced to write out this letter specifically for her to deliver.
Didn’t I mention how little privacy this ship has? A very imposing figure is standing over my shoulder as I write this. She gasped just now. And smeared ink all over the paper. Please, send your best regards to Captain Beidou.
As I said, I am leaving for Snezhnaya. I don’t remember being overly fond of their food, but I said that about Liyue Harbor, and I felt the same about Inazuman delicacies. I am noticing a pattern. I can’t continue doing this.
Diluc R.
—
Dear Kaeya,
There are many things to regret over the extent of my life. I regret not being strong enough to protect Father, I regret having never learned the truth about you earlier on in life, and I regret trying to kill you. I regret that I gave you a Vision, because that meant I became a truly wicked person. Finally, I regret my last letter to you, and this one as well. I didn’t get to say what I wanted then, for such foolish reasons. Now, I still can’t say what I want.
Unforeseen circumstances have arisen. There isn’t much I can explain, even though I know this bottle will lead nowhere special to anyone at any time. I wish I could say more, that I can tell you more. This is my last letter to you, Kaeya, until I am released from my chosen binds. This will never reach you, which is why I feel the confidence to say this:
I am sorry, Kaeya.
Diluc Ragnvindr
—
To Cavalry Captain Kaeya Alberich of the Ordo Favonius,
I am coming home.
D.R.
—
A crumpled piece of paper was hidden in a slot behind one of the many paintings Kaeya Alberich had in his apartment in inner city of Mondstadt. Every few days, if you looked into the darkened windows of the apartment, you could see the esteemed Cavalry Captain unhook a painting of an old prize horse of the Dawn Winery years ago from the wall. Carefully, he would undo the back of the painting, pulling out a piece of paper that had survived several years of abuse from its current owner.
Then, the Cavalry Captain would move to his kitchen table and sit down in one of the six seats available. He would smooth out the paper on the table and place his hand on top of it for several seconds. Eventually, he would lift his hand and read the contents written on the piece. The words were hardly visible after the years it had seen and the conditions it was written under. But if you were to ask Captain Kaeya himself, he would say that the eligibility didn’t matter; he’d memorized the words a long time ago.
After only a few moments of reading, the captain’s shoulders would start to shake. A hand would come up to support his forehead, and another hand would move the paper out from under him. It was done to protect the precious paper from being stained by Kaeya’s tears.
If you were to ask the captain about the contents of the paper, he would not give the real answer. He would make up a fictitious lie supported by the supposed backstory of his eyepatch, laced in old pirate tales and hidden treasures. If you were to read the paper yourself, you would find an innocent letter addressed to nobody in particular, detailing a person passive-aggressively being forced to write the words on the paper by their superior. It was signed, “Diluc R.”
The real story behind the letter couldn’t be brought from Kaeya’s mouth. If you wanted the truth, you would have to trek to Liyue Harbor and find the Captain of the Crux Fleet: Captain Beidou. She would have no qualms telling the story behind the letter, even finding the situation to be quite humorous despite the way Captain Kaeya had always reacted.
She would say: “Well, it all started when a young man with a bright, red mane like flames climbed on my ship. We were Inazuma-bound, but this didn’t phase him. The kid had guts– Hell, he probably still does. He was pretty skeptical and had a temper wilder than any hurricane I’ve ever braved, but that only made him an easier target for the crew and I. Oh, the teasing!
“I knew he was writing the letters long before I told him. Nothing escapes me on my fleet! Ha ha! I remember how embarrassed he was when I told him! I forced him to write out a letter, but of course it wasn’t as serious as it normally was. Left out the name it was addressed to and everything! Claimed I would never be able to deliver it to the right person! So of course I took the challenge. I had him package it up in an old wine bottle like he usually did, then once I dropped him off in Snezhnaya, the crew and I made a detour to good ole’ Mondstadt.
“You see, it wasn’t hard to track down who the letter was addressed to. Everyone was up in arms over the fact that their famous Diluc, having just disappeared from Mond, had been with the Crux Fleet! I did my best to hide any details of his true whereabouts or what he had been doing with me, because I would never betray one of my own, even for someone who lived as shortly with me as he did.
“From there, I got the letter address down to two people of interest, Sir Kaeya and Master Jean, both of the Ordo Favonius. Thanks to my great memory, I recalled the kid scratching out the letter K when he was writing the personal address. So I delivered the letter in the bottle dutifully! Sir Kaeya wasn’t as happy as I was. He actually took the letter with poorly hidden sorrow and guilt. I wanted to stay around for his reaction, but I know where lines shouldn’t be crossed. After having a few drinks at the famous Angel’s Share and meeting with Master Jean, my crew and I returned on our route. There is your story about the little letter a fiery kid on my ship wrote to a few years ago!
“To be fair, I thought they were love letters at first. The angry, no-nonsense Diluc having a little crush back at home? Hilarious! It’s weird to think that now, though, since I know they were brothers and all that. I wonder if those other bottles had ever gotten to Sir Kaeya?”
None of the bottles had been recovered by Captain Kaeya, nor were any found and returned to him. He had never stopped searching the beach for the supppsed other bottles mentioned by both Captain Beidou and the letter itself. He can still be found wandering the shorelines of Mondstadt during his free time, pants rolled up and wading into the water to try and find at least one bottle. This learned behavior never left him, even after Master Diluc of the Dawn Winery returned to Mondstadt.
If you were to ask Master Diluc about the letters he wrote to Captain Kaeya, he would deny having ever done anything. It became well-known in Mondstadt that the two men didn’t get along upon the wine master’s return, but it can’t help but be wondered: if they were both made aware of the others’ viewpoint of the letters, the receiver and the writer, would something change between them? The question would forever be left unanswered, for the two could never be seen talking in any manner other than impolite jabs and heartless arguments.
Somewhere, in the very corner of Teyvat where the gods can’t cast their judging eyes, a bottle washes up to the shore. A man picks it up, pale with blue eyes mimicking the stars and hair ashy blond. He runs his hands over the bottle and examines it carefully before popping the cork that had sealed it shut. He pulls out the letter inside, reads it, and smiles. He pockets it gently, a new destination and person in mind for him to travel to: Cavalry Captain Kaeya Alberich of the Ordo Favonius.

Introduction ♡
*╔═══❖•.。.:*𓆩𖣂𓆪*:.。.•❖═══╗*
❧ You can call me Tae ^_^
❧ I'm autistic and I have a hyperfocus on Ferid Bathory (that's why my posts tend to be only about him);
❧ I like Owari no Seraph, Yabujin, Pastel Ghost, Angel Beats and I'm trying to get excited about Genshin Impact again;
❧ I like everything that seems to bring a sense of peace, whether in a more "melancholic" way or not, but I also like cute things;
❧ I love sweets, I'm addicted, especially Fini and candies, in fact, my favorite flavor is usually strawberry.;
❧ Some of my hobbies are drawing, playing games and reading manga, sometimes I watch anime too;
❧ I am LGBT, being an agender person (non-binary trans), demian (or demirose/demi-aroace) and gay, my pronouns are he/she;
❧ I'm Brazilian and I don't speak English fluently, so I'm sorry if I say something wrong. "So why do you speak English here?" There is no Brazilian community for the things I like here;
❧ I like Sanrio (I'm not a big fan) and my favorites are the Little Twin Stars;
❧ My musical taste varies a lot, so I don't have a fixed taste, as well as clothing style and aesthetics;
❧ I like some things that are no longer as common as they were before 2020, like Nightcore, Gacha and the like.
I think that's all, thanks for reading this far! (^^)

notes:© all rights belong to yuezhong. Eula Lawrence, Albedo Kreideprinz, Kaeya Alberich, Zhongli and Kaedehara Kazuha belong to Hoyoverse. Please do not plagiarize or copy any of my works and upload them anywhere. Reblog if you enjoyed! It helps a lot <3. Taglist form is still closed as of now.
☆ EULA LAWRENCE
Born into a life of wealth and luxury, EULA never had to worry about the woes of being in poverty nor fret over being unable to place food on her plate.
Despite indulging in the multitudinal privileges of a silver spoon, she longs for freedom. She yearns to dance shoeless amongst large, open prairies beyond her comfortable, but stuffy abode. She yearns to run through the village streets, arms linked with friends while laughing heartily without a care in the world.
Because surely, she was meant for more than just practised smiles, business negotiations, and the inevitable arranged marriage with another influential industrial partner to expand her family’s power?
Yearning leads to wanting, wanting leads to acting on one’s desires. Eula embodies this by her recent absences in her lessons; opting to go on introspective strolls in the nearby woodland to recollect her thoughts.
When tutors came knocking on the door of Lord and Lady Lawrence to file yet another complaint of their eldest’s disappearance, the owners of the manor could only release twin huffs of exhausted exasperation; for they knew there was nothing they could do about their daughter’s one-track mind on her quests for freedom, though they were transient.
The unpredictability of what life had to offer was daunting, yet oh-so wondrous at the same time. Chancing upon you was one of the latter.
It was just one step of absent-mindedness, an innocent meeting of eyes.
Your congregation with her was fairytale-esque, whimsical with a touch of something reminiscent of a past love story. Perhaps you two were soulmates of a crueller past?; Bound once more by fate’s merciful hand.
Whatever the circumstances that led to the two of you currently curling into the other’s embrace could not change one thing though: Her family would never approve of the blooming feelings between you two. This you know well.
After all, why would they give their blessings entailing their daughter’s happiness to an outcast like you? Much less a witch. You are branded a sinner for your practices in sorcery, a cesspool of evil (or that was what most thought).
But in Eula’s eyes, she saw none of that sort.
You are her safe haven, the fields of elysium where she can frolic blissfully all day long. And to secure the safety of it, she will brave every snowstorm, cut through biting frost thrown against both of you by the rest of the world.
☆ALBEDO KREIDEPRINZ
As the sole medical practitioner in his village, ALBEDO is exalted for his role.
He takes pride in his line of work; but never exudes hubris for his achievements. Ever the humble worker, he tends to all with kindness: welcoming them with open arms entwined with generosity.
Other than his amicable presence, his intellect is another one of the driving forces that gravitates people towards him.
Scholars and members of academia alike sing praises for his sincere manner of speech, his efficacy in carrying out tasks. Cordial words bring the gist of topics in his medical presentations to life; holding candle light to Minerva’s clever hand in weaving embroidered tales. Yet his diligence keeps him on the right path, never straying from his destination. Patients recount his gentleness in treating their ailments, not once uttering words of ill-intent about their pains or the lengthy periods of time needed to guide them to full-recovery.
Not born a social butterfly, Albedo instead opts to sit in the shade of his veranda⎯⎯ a structure of respite within the large expanse of the garden surrounding his cottage. He’d sit cross-legged with a book in hand on one of the chairs⎯⎯wrought carefully of fine mahogany as he savoured his favourite blend of tea languidly.
It is only when he hears your voice does his ears perk up (figuratively). Carefully, he slots his bookmark between the pages to mark the passage he stopped on prior to your arrival.
“Albedo!”
He could feel the corners of his lips quirk up faintly at the sound of your voice as you jog towards him. Ah, what a lovely day to spend it outside.
☆ KAEYA ALBERICH
“The word trouble and KAEYA go hand in hand.” These are the whispers of superficial neighbours that often reach your ears.
As his playmate who has seen him through thick and thin since young, you dismiss their hollow words easily. There is certainly more depth to Kaeya than it meets the eye; the many layered undertones of his character and complex past are two of the few clandestine things he entrusts you with.
As the son of your village’s chief, it is not uncommon to find him out and about. This could be the direct link to the so-called “trouble” he causes, which is in reality just people’s misinterpretations of his intentions; and on top of that he somehow always manages to find himself in the wrong place at the wrong time.
His unintentional penchant for attracting misfortune has left even his close ones baffled. And so, you take it upon yourself to rectify or at least mitigate this inborn unfortunate trait of his.
“Kaeya!”
A few soft taps against the glass window of the wooden hut where he shares residence with his father snaps him out of the dazed trance he somehow managed to fall into. Kaeya shifts his gaze to the source of your suppressed cry, grey eye glinting with a fondness only reserved for you and you alone.
Gingerly, he presses both palms onto the cool, flat surface of both panes. Then after he has made sure you backed away completely from the window, he exerts a little more pressure onto the panes.
“Hi.” His familiar, half-crescent smile greets you.
“Hi.” Reciprocating with a grin, you rummage through the burlap sack, sifting through the various items stored away inside which were not visible to Kaeya’s wandering eye.
“It’s an amulet, to keep you out of trouble.” You smile, cupping the said object in your hand with practised caution before placing it into his.
Cooing a flirtatious “thank you, darling~ I will be sure to return the favour.” directly into your ear, Kaeya leans forward to press a kiss onto your cheek. He only chuckled at your attempts to hide your flustered state as he slipped off into the sableness of the night, guided by Luna's mellow rays.
☆ZHONGLI
Toiling away at his crops diligently, ZHONGLI pauses to wipe the sweat away from his brows with the back of his hand.
“Ah,hello.” He smiles warmly, tipping his straw hat in jest at you. Chuckling at the sound of your laugh at his little gesticulation, he beckons you into his cottage with a courteous hand.
What awaits you inside are two earthen cups (moulded by his clever hand on his potter’s wheel) of lukewarm tea 𑁋 lavender, he informs. Ever the gentleman, Zhongli pulls your chair out for you as you set your things down by the door.
An hour of idle chit-chat and degusting his wonderful tea later, he noticed your furrowed brows were directed at something outside one of the windows. Following your line of sight, he instantly knew why as soon as he set his eyes on a cluster of cumulonimbus clouds gathering in the sky.
“Would you like to stay over?” He proffered.
A timid “yes please, apologies for the intrusion.” draws the smile you love so much from his lips.
☆ KAEDEHARA KAZUHA
As a wanderer, KAZUHA has acclimated to the various perks and quirks of life on the-go. Whether it be finding lodgings in peculiar places or the capricious storms Inazuma brings.
Occasionally though, he would take a break from his nomadic lifestyle and settle down in small villages or suburban towns bustling with life for as long as he feels like it.
That was how he was going to spend the rest of his life 𑁋 as a drifter, free as the winds captured by the sails of his raft he always relied upon to take him to new places; or so he thought.
A fond smile replaces his once neutral countenance as Kazuha gazes at the band of his ring resting snugly around his fourth finger. It has been a year since he became wedded to you and settled down for good. Yet, it still feels like a dream to him.
Kazuha’s mind couldn’t help but navigate its way back to the day before his promise of devoting himself to you as his bandaged fingers traced over the ring’s cool surface. You and him met by mere happenstance, it was as if fate had woven this indeterminate path for him and you were the one who lifted the mist that veiled it.
Your magnanimity is something he will be eternally grateful for. Had you not offered to share your cottage with him when it was peak tourist season, he would have been homeless.
Ah, your profession of your feelings to him is another one of the memories he holds dear in his repertoire.
“The moon is beautiful, isn’t it?” If you had been any softer, the words that slipped from your lips would have been whisked away by the tranquil night breeze.
His eyes fluttered shut in content. Kazuha nodded in assent.
“Indeed. I would be delighted to watch it together with you for as long as we shall live.”
You are half his soul, his north star and his inspiration for the poetry he waxes.

I was wondering what you'd think the boys' voices would sound like
character voice claims
ooo i love this one!! i worked hard on this lol this is all just my opinion, as per usual, so if anyone has different ideas i'd love to hear them!!
on a more solemn note, this is gonna be short. something came up in my relationship and i think we're on a break?? idk, all i know is i miss him and my heart hurts lol
genre: other
cw: none
Lucia
❧ the brothers all share one voice trait in common: they got that pretty boy, kinda whiny, a little bit voice cracky, breathy kinda voice
❧ he has a voice similar to childe (genshin impact): it's confident, clear, and has the qualities listed above, very much pretty boy and prideful
Levy
❧ usually has a clear and calm manner of speaking, but when he gets flustered or embarrassed his voice cracks and his tone shifts like crazy
❧ he has a voice like byakuya (danganronpa: trigger happy havoc): smart, know-it-all tone while also still having that easily annoyed tone, only i think levy's voice would be slightly less deep
Mefy
❧ he has 3 main manners of speech that can switch up at the drop of a hat: chipper, mean, and bored; and he's very good at controlling his tone level
❧ he has a voice similar to wanderer (genshin impact): condescending while light and airy, but with less rasp; our boy drinks water frfr
Oswald
❧ deeper voice but definitely not corpse deep, and he manages to not be very loud; he speaks in a soft, indoor volume, it's very dreamy
❧ he has a voice similar to sousuke yamazaki (free! series): i can't not hear ian sinclair's voice with this character, but ignore that and you get the picture; it's deep and suitable for a big tall man, but not overwhelmingly scary
Kaim
❧ he's got a total high class, almost cocky tone; one sentence out of this man and you know he's intelligent and classier than you. so it goes without saying that
❧ he has a voice like any j michael tatum character, i especially picture sebastian michaelis: prim and proper while still being cocky enough to show some personality
Mikael
❧ another prim and proper yet still cocky guy, only he is much worse at hiding his emotions with his tone
❧ he has a voice similar to the actor dan stevens (downton abbey): i can't decide if his voice would be deeper or the same pitch, but he's definitely got that snarkiness in his voice while still having a charming air to it
Ricardo
❧ he's got a cocky, deeper pretty boy voice and i hate him for it. it's the kind of voice that immediately gets anyone hooked on him, and he definitely knows how to use it
❧ he has a voice like flynn rider (tangled): i hate to say that, i love flynn rider, but they share that charming, cocky, carefree tone, very casanova of them
Noel
❧ one of the lightest pitch voices, on par with mefy, which really hints at his youthfulness and even his naivety, but even still you can hear exhaustion in his voice from how much he's been through
❧ he has a voice similar to albedo (genshin impact): breathy, light, monotonous, and blunt. very pretty boy but without the whiny, voice crackiness the brothers share
Lucas
❧ does it even need any introduction
❧ he has a voice similar to howl pendragon (howl's moving castle): personally, i thought christian bale's voice was too deep and didn't match how howl looked, but why not apply that decision to our lovely lucas as well. may as well say it would be a higher pitch though, just to be safe
Kurt
❧ a child, his voice is so youthful and full of the voice cracks, and therefore
❧ his voice is similar to rowley jefferson (diary of a wimpy kid): don't call me, don't come by my house, we're done
#my. hcs#disclaimer: i have never played genshin impact; i only listened to voice lines#nightmare harem#nightmare harem hcs#nightmare harem lucia#nightmare harem levy#nightmare harem mefy#nightmare harem oswald#nightmare harem kaim#nightmare harem mikael#nightmare harem ricardo#nightmare harem noel#nightmare harem lucas#otome games

is it me or the fear talking (what a dumb question)
Intro III - NF

In his last memory, Kaeya had been drunk. There was no question about it; the hazy thoughts of his muddled mind, the slur in his words, and Diluc’s glare as he stumbled out of Angel’s Share. He had managed to drag himself to his office at the Headquarters, blissfully unaware and uncaring of any knights that saw his sorry state in the progress.
In the present, his vision was pristine and mind clear. The carpet underneath his feet was torn in multiple places and dark with years of built-up grime and neglection. His office floor, unlike all of the others in the Headquarters, didn’t have a carpet on it. It was marble, matching the hallways just outside of the door. When he’d first claimed the office for himself several years ago, the first thing he’d done was to remove the unnecessary fabric. With this information, he concluded that the place he was in wasn’t his office or even the Knights’ Headquarters. Despite that, the place was familiar in the most uncomfortable and worst of ways.
Kaeya moved forward, the dark hardwood underneath the layer of carpet squeaked from the pressure of his weight. The wood was eroded from fungi and hidden insects undiscovered through the years of its clear abandon. The hallway he slowly traversed through was dimly lit by flickering candle lights. Several of those were missing from their cages against the wall and were instead smeared against the ground. Candle wax mixed strangely with the unkempt carpet hairs.
The hallway he was walking along turned into a T, opening up to a hallway overlooking the living room of the estate. A large chandelier hung from the ceiling above the main room, swinging gently despite the absence of a breeze. There were only two candles lit on the fixture, and the rest were burnt down or completely missing. Kaeya headed to the left side of the staircase leading to the room below.
As he walked past a room, the door abruptly shook violently in response to a bang against it. A gut-wrenching cry emitted from inside of it, causing a wave of nausea to come up Kaeya’s throat. With a hand on his mouth, he forced his feet to keep going. It never got easier to see or hear that room, no matter how many days he spent trapped inside this estate. If he had chosen to go to the right-hand stairway, the room he would’ve had to walk by was almost worse than the one on the left.
Kaeya would’ve grabbed onto the handrail lining the hallway for stability from his sudden nausea, but he was sure it would fully collapse and crumble under any weight he put on it. Just like the floor, mites and fungi were eating it hollow.
Forcefully ignoring the sobs emitting from the bedroom and the cobwebs lining the baseboards against the ceiling and floor, Kaeya began his descent down the staircase. Each board of wood bent under his feet, and he was careful to not misstep. It was dark enough that it would’ve been relatively easy to fall if he wasn’t paying attention.
The living room was just as dark as the hallway. The wallpaper peeled off of the wall and fallen square panels from the ceiling were scattered across the floor, broken. They cracked underneath Kaeya’s boots. Speaking of which, his shoes were the same pair that matched his old knight uniform, the one he wore before becoming Cavalry Captain. Lifting his sleeved arm and rubbing a hand on his coat, Kaeya found that he was in said uniform.
It was never the same. Every time he found himself in this dark, abandoned estate, his outfit was different. Most of the time, Kaeya himself was changed in some aspects as well. Whether that be his physical age or the just length of his hair, he was never the exact same as he was in his previous visit to the mansion.
Besides the change of attire, Kaeya didn’t feel different in any way. He reached his bare hands up to touch his face, feeling the skin around his eye. In the waking world of reality, his right eye was always covered. In the abandoned and broken estate, he couldn’t remember a time when he even had an eyepatch. It was disturbing in its own right, serving as a reminder that there was no hiding. There was nothing to protect him outside of the doors that locked away his past.
Kaeya slowly picked his feet up again and walked to find a mirror on the other side of the living room. All of the visible furniture was covered by off-white dust sheets. The chairs and couches were scattered in an unorganized manner, though in the original estate, they had once formed a semicircle in front of the fireplace. A wooden table was split into two in the direct middle of the room, its dust sheet covered with dark splotches of dried blood.
He averted his eyes. The fireplace wasn’t lit, but it never was. One thing that had never changed in the estate was how cold it was, like it lacked life despite the person– people– that lived there. The permanent chill seeped straight through his clothes and poked at his bones like incessant needles. His Cryo Vision had allowed his body to become resilient to the cold, but he lacked that elemental power in the manor.
The mirror was just ahead, propped up against a pillar against the edge of the living room. Mirrors were scattered everywhere in the mansion, some broken and some not. It seemed that the estate wanted Kaeya to see himself, to perceive who he truly was. It was unsettling and distressing. The mirror he wanted was covered by another dust sheet. Glancing around the room as anxiety spiked his heart rate, he harshly tugged the cover completely off.
The glass was dirty and unkept with one large crack extending the entire mirror horizontally in a jagged line. Kaeya looked entirely the same as he did in the real world, save for the knight uniform he hadn’t worn in several years. There wasn’t a trace of intoxication on his person, but his emotional turmoil was easy enough to read. His body was stiff with tension and his chest rose up and down in an uneven pattern. The mansion always had a way of making him look so open and vulnerable.
His eyes were wide with something akin to dread. His now uncovered eye was exposed, revealing absolutely nothing special underneath. Ah, there was the thing that had changed. For some odd reason, the manor decided to make his Khaenri’ahn eye entirely normal. It was blue now, and its pupil was only vaguely star-shaped. It matched his left eye perfectly, the one that he let the real world see.
He wasn’t sure when it had happened, for there hadn’t been anyone near him just a second ago. There was a figure behind him that was meeting his gaze through the mirror. Kaeya tensed impossibly further, a chill running down his back and through his nervous system.
Kaeya couldn’t bear to look in the mirror anymore; he was frightened by his own terrified expression. Turning around wasn’t much easier, for the figure looked exactly like himself. Major differences set them apart, though, which made it a lot easier for Kaeya to distinguish himself from the other. The figure wore a uniform only for royalty: a suit, pristine white and untouched by the dirt and sawdust surrounding them. Gold epaulets dawned each shoulder, and a similarly-colored sash crossed the entire front of his chest.
A long, white cape flowed with the figure’s movement as it followed Kaeya back into the main part of the living room. The fur lining the top of the cape around its neck was a deep and dark ocean blue. Sharp, four-pointed stars littered the underside of the cape, and its boots echoed in the eerie silence as it stalked. Kaeya didn’t say anything to it. He didn’t want to, so he shouldn’t have to, but it was still following him. It was still behind him, watching and matching every footstep until Kaeya collapsed onto a barely-standing chair on the opposite side of the room.
It– no, he, he wouldn’t want to be called an it– tilted his head as Kaeya stared at him. Out of the corner of his eye, he watched as words written in black ink began to fill the mirror. It was already dripping down the glass. Kaeya’s attention was brought back when it– he– crossed his arms over his chest.
“Are you scared of me?” The figure asked. His eyes were a brown-ish gold, and their pupils were distinctly star-shaped, similar to the ones on the underside of his cape. Kaeya looked away, the sight making him feel sick to the stomach and so, so cold. The figure scoffed. “That’s embarrassing.”
Kaeya didn’t say anything. This time the words were simply caught in his throat. He couldn’t lie here. Nobody could, at least of what he was aware of. Everything that lived here only spat hurtful truths whether or not they wanted to. It was horrible, a constant and undying nightmare that breathed persistently. There wasn’t an escape, only temporary, so-called relief in the real world that only caused more words to be written on the tearing wallpaper.
“If it wasn’t for me, you would’ve never become Cavalry Captain,” the figure continued. Kaeya became extremely aware of the clothes resting on his skin. Toes rubbed uncomfortably together in his white boots. They were almost brown in the dim, flickering light, looking like they were used for years as mud shoes.
After not receiving a response, the figure sat on the floor in an unceremonious manner. For his appearance, it– he– didn’t act like the prince he was supposed to be. “I’ve been there for you,” he said while flicking out his cape. It splayed out against the ground and draped over the broken ceiling tiles and layered dust. “How come you were never there for me?”
He kicked his feet out, legs crossing over each other as he leaned back on his hands. The prince didn’t wait on a response. He wasn’t going to get one, anyway. “It’s a little twisted, but I miss when you and I would have nightmares. We saw each other more, then.”
“I don’t want to talk about it,” Kaeya strangled out, voice coming out more horse than he expected. He still couldn’t look at the stranger– no, he was so familiar– in front of him. They looked too much alike, despite the eyes and attire. Their body shapes and skin tones matched perfectly, and their voices were the same despite the roughness of Kaeya’s.
“Well, that’s too bad!” laughed the prince without any humor. A barely-audible plea of silence escaped Kaeya’s lips, which he swiftly slapped with a bare hand. His head snapped around to find the figure on the floor, but he didn’t seem to notice nor care.
He began to push himself off the floor without any real urgency or rush. Why did he sit down in the first place? “Now, where were we? Ah, do you remember back in the days when you and I had it all mapped out in your bedroom?” Kaeya did remember. That was when he still inhabited that upstairs bedroom of the estate, both in reality and in this crumbled mansion. “Crying in there like a baby, ‘I wish Dad was here,’” the figure mocked mercilessly.
There was a kid still living in that room. He screamed and cried and banged on the door, yet Kaeya never let him out. Facing the child in there, and facing the words he wrote on the wall were something he preferred to keep locked away. Nights that Kaeya found himself trapped in the inside of that bedroom with that little kid that was identical to his own, younger self were the nights he read and heard those same words said by the prince. They were permanently etched to the walls, replaying over and over again in nightmares.
“You don’t really want to change me,” he said. Kaeya looked away again, this time to the archway connecting the living room to a large hallway. “I made everything; I made you who you are. Do you really want to get rid of your main personality?”
The dust sheet was itchy. He had to move, to get away from this figure talking in front of him. The chair creaked at the sudden loss of pressure. Kaeya didn’t know where to go. “It’s time to make plans, and you know I can help. I don’t want to make you nervous, but it isn’t like it used to be. You’ve got a lot of people watching.”
The living room lacked any life besides the two identical men in there. Yet, that wasn’t what the prince was referencing, was it? He was talking about the increase in hilichurl activity, the abyss order drawing nearer, and that cursed mechanism found in the Chasm. Kaeya had thought he escaped his roots, disregarding the prince that lived permanently in this mansion. Now, it was all crashing down to destroy him. A ceiling tile fell and splintered behind him.
“You don’t want me in your life,” the figure said with a wrinkle of his nose. He wasn’t happy with Kaeya. “That’s hard to digest. I told you I’ll leave when we die,” he raised his arms and extended them out into the air by his side, “We haven’t died yet!”
Black paint lined the prince’s lips and mouth. The ends extended far along his cheekbone, jagged and terrifying. When the prince grinned maliciously, the drawn smile made his white teeth appear a putrid yellow color. Perhaps it wasn’t his eyes that were the most terrifying to look at, but rather that permanently painted smile on his face. The days when Kaeya found himself with that same faux grin were some of the worst.
“Cavalry Captain is beautiful, but I’m wondering what’s coming next? Look at me when I’m talking to you— did you hear what I said?” Kaeya was looking for an escape, somewhere to go to run from the sound of his own voice mocking and penetrating his ears. He purposefully didn’t look the prince in the eyes.
The figure laughed. It was full of malice and anger. “Do you not like this prison I built you? Oh, you know what the funny thing is?” He grabbed onto Kaeya’s elbow, pressing his gloved fingers harshly against the nerves. A wave of pain shot up the Cavalry Captain’s arm. “You keep on acting like I’m a stranger, but we’ve been together since you were a kid!”
Memories of the nights where there was no-one but the two of them pounded on its designated door. He heard the screams and cries clearly again even though the room was on the second floor. That kid wanted to be let out, saved. Kaeya ripped his arm from the prince’s harsh grip, but he didn’t make any moves to the stairway. His legs we’re frozen, keeping him rooted in front of the rotting chair.
“I took us from a broken nation. I told you everything was okay. Now you’re trying to cut me out like I’ve never been a part of your life.” Oh, he was truly angry now, and Kaeya was utterly scared. He continued, “I am the heart of it, I made this whole place.”
Kaeya’s mind was muddled and confused as the words were spat in his face, but he was sure that the prince hadn’t been the one to create the estate. Kaeya had, though he couldn’t be sure at what exact time in his life. When he was six years old, probably, just a kid who wanted a haven. It hadn’t been a place he feared until he entered. The prince was right when he said that he made it a prison.
“Tell me, Kaeya. What’s the point in having a sword if you can’t swing?” He leaned forward and sneered in Kaeya’s face. “What’s the point in having blood with no veins? Love with no pain?”
He’s heard those words before. They mixed cruelly with the sweet, innocent, and soothing sentences the prince had sung to Kaeya after hard and confusing days. Bile curdled in his stomach. Kaeya had to leave, and without a destination in mind, his feet started to move. The prince followed, the sound of his cape fluttering violently behind him echoing with his voice.
“I’m saying that me without you doesn’t make any sense,” he called. Kaeya felt his collar close in around his neck as the prince yanked him back. Roughly, he was twirled to face the man that looked just like him. Those blue, star-shaped eyes were cross. “I know I’m intense and controlling, but you need to learn how to cope with it. That’s just the way that it is.”
Gloved hands shoved Kaeya away, creating space between the two. “If you didn’t want me to live in this estate, you shouldn’t have let me move in. It’s comfortable here and I like it; I’ve got my own room and everything,” he grinned, “It doesn’t get better than this!”
An ever-present need to flee kept Kaeya’s heart pounding. He couldn’t go upstairs— that kid wanted to be let out and he absolutely couldn’t open the door. A small glass dome that was connected to the mansion was just down the left hallway. It might be better to be closer to the outside world, to get a taste of what he wasn’t allowed to have. Silently praying to gods he hardly believed in that he wouldn’t be choked again, Kaeya started off in the right direction.
“Do you want to own your life? Then wake up and take your own advice,” the figure said while his heels clicked against the floor. He laughed in that mirthless way again. “You’re just mad because you know I’m right.” He paused. Then, “Ah, I’m flattered that you brought me up to Diluc, but you should’ve told him the truth.”
The last time Kaeya talked to Diluc about anything related to Khaenri’ah was when they were eighteen. He’d tried to explain that he wasn’t allied to that nation anymore, but it hadn’t mattered. No words could replace the bitter truth of Kaeya’s bloodline. The wall beside Kaeya suddenly groaned. Kaeya hadn’t told Diluc any lies that night, though, so the prince’s accusation was both confusing and horrifying.
“I held your hands on the coldest nights. You didn’t tell him about the times you and I used to control your body!” They arrived in the dome. As expected, glass was shattered in multiple places, but the general shape was mostly intact. Shards were crushed under two pairs of boots. There was no light streaming in from the outside, as it was perpetually cloudy and cold at some point of the night. Or was it day? There was no way to tell.
“I mean, are you out of your mind?” He asked, pulling Kaeya around by the arm to face him once they were in the middle of the room. Kaeya, for all intents, wanted to stare out at the flat landscape outside the estate and ignore that violent figure. Unfortunately, that wasn’t possible.
The prince— the Khaenri’ahn Prince Kaeya was supposed to be— grasped the Cavalry Captain’s jaw. His fingers dug harshly into Kaeya’s cheeks to the point where he could feel the intense pressure against his molar teeth. The figure forced the man’s head from side to side, up and down. A scowl crossed his face. “Then both of us will be. We’re going outside!”
He forcefully pushed Kaeya’s face back. He stumbled, and suddenly he wasn’t in that broken glass dome anymore. He was outside, yards behind the mansion. His white boots found solid ground to stabilize himself on, the short, yellow grass crunching in the process. The air was stagnant and colder than the inside of the mansion. It’d been a long time since he was let outside.
The prince had a shovel in his hand, already poking at the dirt. Kaeya’s hands curled into fists. “Is this what you wanted, both of us out in the open?” He demanded, voice less hoarse than it was before. “Why are you doing this? I know that you’re mad, but I’m not in the mood.”
Dirt was flicked up from the ground, starting a pile next to the beginnings of a hole. “We have a nation to save,” the figure snapped. “Stop acting like I’m not a part of this.”
“Where’s my shovel at?” Kaeya asked, the beginnings of an idea forming in his mind. It wasn’t possible to lie when inside of the mansion, but when he was outside, rules bent a little bit. He could, at the very least, act like he was still intent on saving Khaenri’ah. Like he still cared.
“It’s probably out here like it always is,” the prince spat. Sure enough, the metal tip of a second shovel glinted next to Kaeya’s feet. It hadn’t been there a second ago.
Picking it up, he felt the wooden shaft weight heavily in his grip. His bare hands tightened on it while his heart quickened its pace. They always dug a hole when the prince got upset enough, and those days were the few in which he actually got to go outside. Inevitably, Kaeya would be shoved and buried in the hole they created.
The prince stabbed his shovel into the ground. “I’m the reason why—“
“Shut up. I don’t want to hear another sentence,” Kaeya hissed. The outside always gave him more confidence, made him stronger against the omnipresent prince or whatever had taken him out of the mansion.
The prince laughed, the sound choked with his anger. “Hey, I’m Kaeya!” He waved a hand in the air dramatically, eyes wide to mimick the other’s constant panicked look. “Is it me or Khaenri’ah talking? Ha! What a dumb question! It’s smooth talk until the day we die, right? Isn’t that the motto?”
“I thought I told you to keep your mouth shut.” As long as he acted like he wasn’t going to betray the prince, Kaeya could be snarky. The outside let his tongue loosen, keeping him truthful but in the opposite way the mansion did. It was hard to play nice when the hole was getting bigger and his fate loomed drearily.
The pile of dirt grew larger as the figure shoveled more to the side. “I mean, so what? You know I never listen!”
Stab, shovel. Stab, shovel. “Let me guess: we’re going to dig a hole, have a chat, and then drop me in it. Bury me for what, three minutes?” His tone held more irritation than he intended. The prince narrowed his eyes.
“You don’t really think for a second that you’re putting me in this?” He accused, shoveling the dirt at a slower pace now. Kaeya had to play this cool; they were almost done. This was his only chance, and he couldn’t let it slip by.
Shrugging, Kaeya forced out his first lie of the night. He convinced himself that this wasn’t the intention originally, speaking in his past self rather than the present. “Of course not. Just a little deeper then you can bury me.” Huffing, he stopped poking at the ground after a few more seconds. “We can stop digging.”
He moved to stand near the prince who had dropped his shovel at the sentence. Kaeya had to make it look like he was ready to get shoved into the hole they made. It was a grave, just like all the other ones that littered the backyard around them.
A paint-outlined mouth contorted into a grin. For the first time that night, his voice contained a hint of humor to match his words. “You had me scared for a second; I almost thought we were digging my grave.”
Now.
Kaeya slammed the sharp edge of his shovel into the back of the Khaenri’ahn Prince’s head. A loud boom echoed in the empty backyard, the same sound that metal connecting with bone made. The figure collapsed forward and dropped directly into the grave. A shaky laugh escaped Kaeya’s lips as he ran a trembling hand through his hair.
“We did.” He crouched down, knowing that the body in the hole could still hear him despite his utterly limp and dead state. “You don’t like being afraid? It’s a dose of your own medicine. What, you don’t like how it tastes?” Standing back up, Kaeya began to shove the dirt back into the occupied grave. “Jean told me not to bury my issues, but if I have to be honest, I’m feeling great.”
The process was easy and methodical. Kaeya spoke while dirt piled on top of the prince’s body, successfully staining his lovely suit. “I should have done this a year ago; I don’t know why I waited. I tend to put everything off in my personal life, you hear what I’m saying?” He laughed humorlessly. “That was a joke. It’s hilarious, isn’t it? You’ll spend the rest of your life in my backyard or back of my mind depending on how you see it.”
He soaked up the last bit of freedom the outside provided him and smoothed out the last layer of dirt on top of the prince’s grave. Now that he was alone, he became fully aware of the eyes watching him from places he couldn’t see. Kaeya dully remembered why he built the mansion in the first place.
Dragging the shovel against the ground and leaving a trail of blood in his wake, Kaeya slowly ambled to the steps leading to his front door. It took a moment of consideration, but eventually he set the shovel against the side of the steps. Nothing from the outside belonged inside— that was a lesson he learned a long time ago.
He tried the handle, but it was locked. Right, they had never gone through a door to reach the backyard. Hesitantly, he reached into the breast pocket of his coat, pulling out a set of house keys. A surprised huff escaped his lips. He hadn’t been in possession of those ever since the prince started to live in the estate. The weight was unfamiliar and heavy in his hands. He unlocked the door with shaky wrists.
Kaeya stood by the window next to the front door and waited. Time was incomprehensible on the estate, so he couldn’t be sure how long he was waiting and watching. The stifling atmosphere inside the mansion contrasted the openness of the outside, and he could feel the way his face returned to its usual terrified expression. Words were caught in his throat from fear of his own voice. Despite that, though, it was safer to remain inside. He was sure of it.
Eventually, after what had to be a long time, a figure came walking around the front of the mansion. Its suit was covered in multiple layers of dirt, and the entire back and left side of its head was coated in thick blood. It stumbled up to the front door, knocking and begging to be let inside. Kaeya let out a single, short chuckle. The room it used to sleep in had already collapsed, the words inside of it dripping and filling the bedroom to the brink with black ink.
—
Kaeya’s head was hurting like he’d been hit by a very sharp boulder. He blinked blearily, raising a hand to rub absent-mindedly at his eyes. His arm hurt with the movement. Dropping it back down to his side, he found his arm connecting with solid ground. Eyes snapping open fully, he stared up at the slightly cloudy sky above him, the edges of his vision blocked by the walls of dirt on all four sides of him.
Thankfully, the hole didn’t seem that deep, though it was long and wide enough to fit his entire body comfortably. He reached out and gripped the top of the walls on his left and right side, groaning with the effort it took to pull himself into a sitting position. The action caused a wave of pain to spread through his head. He squinted in order to avoid looking at the sun rising just ahead of him.
“Ah, good morning,” a voice said to his right. Kaeya twisted his head around to see who it was, finding himself staring at an extended hand. Albedo was looking at him expectantly, eyebrows raised. The Chief Alchemist was sitting on the ground with his legs crossed and a notebook sitting on his lap.
Hesitantly, Kaeya grabbed his hand and was helped out of the hole. The Cavalry Captain brushed the dirt off of his clothes, gaze flitting back and forth between Albedo and the clearly man-made grave. “I’m assuming you have a few questions,” Albedo said nonchalantly as he picked himself up to stand beside Kaeya, who was nodding in agreement. “I returned to the Knights Headquarters yesterday in order to sleep and give a full report today. I saw you leaving as I was entering, and since I consider you my friend I wanted to greet you. You ignored me completely and kept walking with a dazed look in your eye.”
Although Albedo didn’t seem at all troubled by this, Kaeya couldn’t help but to feel a little guilty. “I apologize. I don’t seem to have any recollection of this,” he said. That was true– the last thing he remembered before appearing in his broken estate was collapsing in his office. Any memories of the real world between then and the moment he woke up were completely absent.
“You were in a state somnambulism– sleepwalking. I don’t blame you,” he replied, easily deflecting the apology. “I decided to follow you, and along the way to the Dawn Winery, you picked up a shovel. When you got here, you dug this hole and promptly collapsed in it when you finished.”
Kaeya wasn’t sure how to process that information. He’d had a few accounts of sleepwalking before, all times coming from particularly long periods of time he spent at his mind’s estate. “And you didn’t try to stop me?” He accused, realizing that his arms were sore from the time he spent digging his own grave.
Albedo shrugged and began flipping through his sketchbook. “Stopping you would mean halting the observation. It’s not often I get to see somnambulism so close. You also had a sharp shovel in your hands,” he said while lifting his book to show a page to Kaeya. “I didn’t want to get hit.”
The page contained a detailed drawing of Kaeya digging the grave, his position being in the middle of flicking dirt to a side pile. The only thing it lacked was color, but with the vividness and accuracy of the drawing, it didn’t really need it. Once he was done examining the illustration, his eyes wandered elsewhere. True to the alchemist’s words, the grave he dug was to the left of the Dawn Winery building and in-between two sections of rows of grape halos.
“What was the dream about? You were mumbling incomprehensibly while digging,” Albedo suddenly asked after a contemplative silence fell between the two. Or rather, it was contemplative for Kaeya, who was trying to come up with a believable excuse to tell Diluc concerning the large hole he’d dug.
Kaeya pressed his lips together. He’d thrown the house keys into the fireplace that didn’t burn, hiding it under the thick logs to keep it there. That door wasn’t going to open again under his watch. For that reason, he answered with, “When something is buried, it’s best to leave it underground.” In truth, he didn’t want to talk about the prince, either. He was afraid that it would find its way back inside again if he recognized its existence out loud.
Albedo narrowed his eyes, piercing right through the Cavalry Captain’s carefully crafted mask. Kaeya had always admired the alchemist for his excellent observation skills, but it was somewhat disturbing when he was able to detect and pull apart every single lie and flowery sentence Kaeya strung together. Despite his obvious understanding of a hidden secret, Albedo let the topic drop, much to Kaeya’s relief. He was afraid that Albedo was going to tear down his front door and see his broken mansion.
“I can fix the hole with Geo. Master Diluc didn’t come to the Winery last night nor this morning, and nobody else passed by either,” he stated simply, setting his sketchbook gently on the ground. “Head into the city and wash up. I’ll be there soon.”
Kaeya nodded. With a quick farewell, he started up the hill to walk back to Mondstadt. He left something behind in that grave, a piece of himself that deserved to rest. His loyalty to Khaenri’ah was officially severed, outcast from his estate and mind alike. It couldn’t torture him anymore.
His hands reached up to massage his mouth and cheeks, trying to rub more life into his features after his exhausting night. Bringing his limbs back down, his uncovered eye caught sight of a discoloration that wasn’t there before. He gave his hands his full attention, noticing that the exposed fingers protruding from his fingerless gloves had remnants of black paint on them. Kaeya scratched his lips again, finding that his fingernails pulled off another layer of paint.
