I’m really sorry if this is annoying to bring up, but there’s something about this space (not your tumblr or any specific one(s)! But the fandom in general, the community Redacted Audio has) that makes me feels not fully comfortable here as a POC. And I feel super annoying saying this because it’s nothing overt or explicit at all (it’s this occasional subtle unease, again not all the time and I don’t know how to describe it) and I should be brave enough to say it on my own Redacted fandom tumblr (I make art here and get decent likes, etc). As a queer person, that part of me feels super at ease and at home here which is beautiful, but as a POC as well, I don’t know…I don’t feel unsafe or unwelcome. It’s like I don’t feel at home like the other part of me does. Sorry to use your tumblr as a confessional. It’s really hard to explain because I’m afraid people will think I’m trying to say something harsher than what I actually mean here.

I generally also feel pretty safe here in terms of being a queer nonbinary person. Though i have, shockingly, had to block people in this fandom for being terfs, they are very few and far between.

I've gotten that feeling as well, and while i haven't seen blatant racism, there's something here that makes me feel a little strange. I think it might be the way that a lot of speaker characters are portrayed?? The characters who are "tsunderes" or assholes (David, Damien) are often portrayed as almost exclusively black men, Gavin is almost always a brown man, Huxley almost always has dreads, Lasko usually being Asian or white. Which like, in themselves aren't bad things, i really appreciate the diversity of race amongst the characters, but something about these things being largely accepted fanon doesn't always sit right with me???

There's only ever been like one depiction of a character thats actually made me 😬, but sometimes i do wonder like.... why are these characters perceived in these ways? Are these interpretations innocent? Or are some of them born from genuine prejudice, implicit bias, and sexualization of people of color?? I am not and will not assert assumptions onto other people unless i have a concrete reason to do so, but that doesn't stop me from wondering.

(along with some responses i got for analyzing the racist racism allegory, those were fun)

I'm happy and proud to know that this blog and the tiny space I've carved out for myself can be a place you feel safer and more welcomed, i hope it continues to be that way.
