@cthoniian liked for a starter with Feyre feat Nyx !
Tumblr media
“ How was your day today ? ” She asks with a smile. Sitting on the couch with her son, Feyre wants to speak with him. Not as a high lady but as his mother. She values the small moments between family because that wasn’t something she couldn’t quite enjoy ( at least until a certain time ).

A Song of Ice & Shadow
A/N: Hello everyone! This is an Azriel x Archeron!half-sister reader series, featuring a slow-burn romance, angst, and possibly a sad ending. Don’t worry, they’ll eventually get together even if it doesn’t have a happy ending. I don’t know how many parts it’s going to have. It begins in ACOMAF chapter 24.
Chapters: 35/?
Summary: Y/n Archeron is a cold and sometimes cruel human who was turned fae against her will. As she navigates her life as a fae, she begins developing feelings for Azriel. Having never been in love makes her weary of these new found feelings. Whenever he gets closer than she anticipates, she pushes him away*.
*at least for first 30 chapters, the rest would be spoilers.
Tumblr media
Chapter I: Summary: The eldest Archeron half-sister Y/n hates Fae kind, due to tragic past events. When she unexpectedly visits her sisters, she is met with the very race she hates.
II: Summary: To Y/n's dismay, the Illyrians keep coming to their home, and despite her initial reluctance to engage in war talks, she becomes entangled in the political world of the fae. This ends with her worst nightmare becoming a reality.
III: Summary: Y/n is adjusting to her new life in the Night Court, where she finds herself interacting with the Illyrians much longer than before, whether by chance or by force. An unexpected encounter with Azriel ignites something between them.
IV: Summary: Y/n is intrigued by a certain illyrian. They open up to one another one night, but she stops it from getting out of control. With Feyre’s return, things get more tense.
V: Summary: Tension rises as Y/n only makes things harder for everyone around her. After moving into the Town House, she is attacked by the King’s soldiers.
VI: Summary: Y/n decides to attend the meeting with the High Lords, where she is more open and relaxed than usual.
VII: Summary: Y/n chooses to remain at the Dawn Court, but Rhys allows her to stay for only three days, entrusting Azriel with her safety.
VIII: Summary: The Inner Circle prepares for war. Y/n and Azriel grow closer, and a shocking revelation unfolds on the battlefield.
IX: Summary: Y/n learns the truth about her powers. When Azriel is injured rescuing Elain, Y/n tends to his wounds.
X: Summary: Y/n struggles to hide her concern for Azriel while Cassian and Rhys tease her. As the final battle against Hybern approaches, Y/n and Azriel spend their last night together sharing a quiet moment before the fight.
XI: Summary: The day everyone dreaded has finally arrived. Facing impossible odds against Hybern, defeat seems inevitable- but nothing could have prepared Y/n for what's about to unfold.
XII: Summary: After the deaths of her fathers, Y/n past traumas resurface, leading her to do what she does best- push everyone away, including her sisters.
XIII: Summary: As Y/n spirals out of control, Feyre steps in, forcing a change that leaves the sisters at odds.

I've said this before but like i also feel like it needs to be said again low key.
Morrigan is no one's friend.
Like yeah she's Rhysand's second in command and commander of Hewn City or whatever and his cousin. But there's no evdence that she ever really does anything, especially because Keir (her father) has most of the power anyways and they apparently even needed to distract him and the rest of Hewn City so that they could get whatever it was they needed in maf (tbh i didn't really pay that much attention to what they were going their for because i was too confused with the whole fact that Morrigan as the de facto ruler and Rhysand as the actual fucking ruler should have just been able to waltz into HC and just get whatever the fuck they wanted with no questions asked). She rides on his coattails and condemns the people that she supposedly helps rule over, but she doesn't do anything to enforce corrections. She's Rhysand's cousin who got the job because of nepotism and nothing more.
She's not Cassian's friend as apparent with the fact that she was willing to put him in mortal danger just to get herself out an arranged marriage. Which like yeah you do you girl but also she high key manipulated Cass into risking his life just to get laid by the girl that his supposed best friend is in love with. And with the fact that Mor explicitly said that she chose Cass because she knew that she could get him to do it makes it all the more icky.
She's not Azriel's friend because what do you mean you thought that far ahead to know that Cassian would absolutely fuck you but Azriel who is supposed to have been pinning for you, won't touch you so you know you can't go to him because he has too much honor. But you don't think far enough to even consider the fact that Cassian could be executed for even touching you??? And she doesn't even hide it. Azriel was the one to get her from the Autumn Court boarder in the first place. And she continues to just not acknowledge anything!!!
Like I get it, as a member of the queer alphabet, coming out is tough with your family. But my fucking god you can't just tell Azriel that you don't like him in that way? That you won't see him in that way? Just so that you can pretend to the rest of your "family" that yeah you only like males? The hyper sexuality just to push Azriel away is so fucking cruel when you refuse to have a single honest conversation with the male.
And she is no friend to any of the Archeron sisters. SF proved that Mor will put Rhysand's wishes before Feyre's. Morrigan fucking suggested that Nesta should be condemed to HC, knowing what happens to women their, simply for embarrassing the "Royal Family" with her sellf medication, nevermind the fact that everyone in the IC has done much worse. And I can't even remember an instance in which Mor had an interaction with Elain tbh.
But I digress. Thanks for coming to my tedtalk. Morrigan sucks and i low key don't want her to be the major betrayal just because it seems like an easy cop out. I just think that she's a horrible person. but thats okay because at least she's more interesting than RiceBoy in the corner.

Feyre Archeron is a complex character in A Court of Thorns and Roses (ACOTAR), especially when it comes to the dynamics of power and how she wields it differently depending on who she’s interacting with. When it comes to her sisters, Feyre displays a certain comfort in exerting control over them—making decisions on their behalf, often without their input. However, when it comes to the Inner Circle (IC), her approach is much more hands-off, and she often emphasizes their bond as friends rather than asserting any authority over them. This contrast reveals some troubling inconsistencies in her character, which warrant further exploration.
Power over her sisters
From the moment Feyre becomes High Lady, we see her holding a significant amount of power over her sisters, Nesta and Elain. Feyre’s attitude toward her sisters is often tinged with an uncomfortable willingness to violate their autonomy, especially when it comes to the use of her powers or Rhysand’s. Throughout A Court of Mist and Fury and A Court of Wings and Ruin, Feyre frequently contemplates going into her sisters’ minds or letting Rhysand do so in order to force them to comply with her wishes. This becomes particularly troubling as it reveals how easily Feyre is willing to use—or at least consider using—her position of power to control those closest to her.
Later on, in A Court of Frost and Starlight and A Court of Silver Flames, Feyre exerts even more direct control over Nesta. Instead of offering support or understanding, she forces Nesta to go to the House of Wind and start training, under the guise of helping her heal. Nesta is given little agency, and Feyre dismisses her sister’s autonomy in a way she never would with the IC. Feyre’s actions here suggest she’s comfortable holding power over her sisters when she deems it necessary, using their well-being as justification for her actions. Yet, it’s clear that this forceful approach often does more harm than good.
Reluctance to hold power over the IC
In stark contrast, when it comes to the Inner Circle, Feyre is adamant about not asserting power over them. She often talks about their friendship and her respect for their choices, despite being their High Lady and, in theory, having the authority to lead. This reluctance is especially evident when it comes to Rhysand, Mor, Cassian, and Azriel. She defers to Rhysand’s decisions and avoids challenging the group dynamic, even when it might be in her best interest to do so.
For instance, rather than confronting or holding accountable those who kept her in the dark about the significant risks of her pregnancy—choices that were made without her knowledge and had serious consequences for her life and future—Instead of addressing the people who withheld such vital information, she directs it towards Nesta, punishing her for revealing the truth.
This response not only deflects blame from those responsible but also reinforces a cycle where honesty from those outside the Inner Circle is met with hostility, rather than the support or understanding it deserves. Feyre frequently frames her lack of intervention as respect for her friends’ autonomy, but this mindset comes across as inconsistent, given how comfortable she is intervening in her sisters’ lives.
The Double Standard
This double standard in Feyre’s treatment of her sisters versus the Inner Circle highlights a major flaw in her character. On one hand, Feyre is willing to force her sisters into difficult situations, making decisions on their behalf without fully considering their feelings or autonomy. On the other hand, she’s unwilling to assert herself when it comes to her friends in the Inner Circle, even though she’s in a position of power and could challenge them when necessary. This difference raises the question: why does Feyre feel more comfortable controlling her sisters than holding the IC accountable?
One possible explanation is that Feyre feels an overwhelming sense of guilt and responsibility for her sisters, especially after their shared traumatic experiences. She might believe that because she failed to protect them in the past, she must now control their futures to ensure their safety and well-being. However, this misguided sense of protection strips them of their autonomy, especially in the case of Nesta, who is constantly infantilized and silenced.
In contrast, Feyre views the IC as equals, or perhaps even superiors in some ways, especially given her deep admiration for Rhysand. This leads her to place herself in a subordinate role in that dynamic, unwilling to challenge or question them, no matter the consequences. Her desire for their approval and the comfort of friendship outweighs her willingness to confront them or wield her power as High Lady.
Conclusion
Feyre’s contrasting treatment of her sisters versus the Inner Circle speaks to a deeper inconsistency in her character when it comes to power and control. She’s comfortable wielding authority over her sisters, forcing them into situations for what she believes is their own good, yet she refuses to assert any power over her friends, claiming that they are equals. This dynamic reveals an uneven approach to leadership and relationships, where her protective instincts toward her sisters manifest as control, while her loyalty to the IC manifests as passivity. This raises important questions about Feyre’s understanding of power, friendship, and family—and whether she truly knows how to balance these complex relationships.

Ok I just recently binge read the ACOTAR series and one thing I said to my best friend who peered pressured me to read it is that i love the brother sister banter and relationship that Lucien and Feyre have and they all were like what?!?! But then all of them stopped and was like omg they do have that banter and demeanor with one another. Plus Lucien and Feyre have similar family issues. They both are the younger sibling to same sex older siblings, their relationship to their older siblings is harsh and non-existent, and their connection to their father/parents is strained and fill with anger or resentment. I think this might be why I struggled with some of the later books with how Feyre was going along with the IC negative thoughts on Lucien. Because to me he is her found/adoptive brother in everything but blood. And truthfully I feel like Lucien being Elains mate was destined/fated because he will always have a family, a home, love within the Archeron family. Also I love the fact that out of all the sister mates only Lucien is the one to spend time with their dad and got to know the man after he decided to grow a backbone and be proactive in helping his daughters. Something I expect Lucien’s own mother will end up doing in a future book against Beron.
I agree that Feyre let certain factors cloud her judgement on Lucien though I do think Sarah has started mending those cracks. Lucien feels like the most organic friendship Feyre has had so far in that her friendship with him began developing before her relationship with Tamlin whereas Feyre's interactions with Rhys sort of took center stage and then she was introduced to Mor, Cassian, Az, Amren, etc. That's not to say that the IC aren't her friends, clearly they're the biggest relationships in her life at this point, I just think there's a big difference in the dynamic in how the relationships came about. Whereas Lucien and Feyre became friends after he was initially ready to throw her out the door (curse be damned) because she murdered his friend, the IC was sort of programmed into liking Feyre from the start because she clearly meant something to Rhys? Again, that doesn't lessen the friendship! My little brother has become extremely good friends with his girlfriends friends, they too would have been "programmed" to welcome him, but there is a special connection we share with the friends we make without influence. But Feyre let her own trauma interfere with what Lucien was going through, where she put her own issues first without considering that he was also struggling, that he also wasn't in a position to cater to only her needs because he was dealing with a lot too. She carried that anger over in ACOMAF and ACOWAR and we witness the change in her thoughts of him as the series progresses, which does kind of prove that it is her own anger that clouded her judgement at times, Lucien didn't really change - she did. Lucien was the same in ACOMAF as he was in ACOWAR as he was in ACOFAS as he is in ACOSF yet Feyre went to "we're friends" to "there was something wrong with the males in the Spring Court" to "he's my enemy and I'm going to use him as a pawn" to "he's not really my enemy" to "he's a good male" to "I'm going to keep inviting him to family holiday's and get upset when he spends them with others." I think like any relationship in Sarah's writing, she's playing the long game. I can see the Feyre and Lucien relationship already moving back in a positive direction but I don't think we'll see them have their heart to heart / hug it out moment until the Elucien book. But I agree, I think Sarah was always trying to find a way to keep Lucien in Feyre's life, first by thinking she'd mate him to Nesta then by mating him to Elain. And Lucien meeting their father really does seal the deal especially because Elain was the closest to him and she's now always going to have someone who can share in good memories of him.

Hello hello here's a lil rant about SJMs writing of Rhys and it driving me crazy :) (CC3 spoilers, ACOTAR spoilers, minor TOG spoilers)
I agree with your post that questions whether or not SJM was being purposeful when she created the dynamics of the IC and their allies. I personally think in order to determine if SJM is doing this purposefully its important to take all her books into account (especially with the crossover in CC3 😭 And because SJM's only finished series currently is TOG, most of my comparisons will involve that series)
I suspect that the IC's emotional journeys are still very far from over. Especially Rhys and Feyre since they have been arguing off page (which is understandable given it wasnt their POVs) and SJM purposefully included Ember Quinlan defending Nesta in the bonus chapter. Now each of these characters have VERY strong personalities, but Ember in particular comparing rhys to someone who abused her is EXTREMELY important for us as readers to note for future books. And i really hope that its because SJM is finally gonna let him be held accountable for being an ass towards his mate's sister and for meddling so much in their relationship.
Rhysand in particular out of all of the IC has probably the most potential for a good redemption arc. Hes traumatized by his families deaths and UTM in canon and it would be safe to assume his childhood in Windhaven wasn't exactly pleasant. So giving us the Archeron POVs to unpack these centuries old characters is bound to get messy due to their own lack of experience, (but it makes for good fan interaction, i see you sjm).
Rhys definitely has better intentions than the Highlords before him did, but he still has some iffy behavior that stems from needing to have control over his surroundings likely due to traumatic events where he felt powerless to save those he cares for. But that doesn't excuse the fact that he has (accidentally) hurt more people while trying to keep control. He withheld life saving info from his mate bc he didnt want her to worry, he threatened and chased Nesta from the city because she shared the info he was hiding, he stole the book from Tarquin despite the fact that he likely would have helped rhys anyway, he locked his IC in Velaris to protect them (when Amren could've solo'd anyone in UTM 🤫). All of which to me sounds like could be control issues.
Now for who I think is the closest character we have to really compare to Rhys, the MC of TOG also struggled with control issues throughout the series. And her own trauma also mirrors Rhys' to an extent, especially her family life and the fact she was also stuck without fresh air while she was in Endovier. She made bad choices throughout her story, ones that affected the people she loved directly. But when her arc concluded, she was able to make healthier decisions for herself and loved ones despite that.
If SJM truly loves rhys as much as she claims, I don't think she wouldn't give him an opportunity to heal like the one she gave to Aelin. Especially after she hinted in CC3 that things are NOT always all fine and dandy in Feysand's relationship, Feyre herself said she was furious with the IC in acosf, and the two of them have yet to discuss how Rhys' actions utm affected her.
Realistically, I don't the highest hopes for Rhys' character arc unfortunately, but a girl can dream of a better ACOTAR 😂 I wanna believe that it'll be a great series when it concludes but im hesitant in putting my faith into SJM tbh 😔 Anyway, I hope you have a wonderful rest of ur day/ night and im so excited to hear your thoughts!
Heyy
I hope you're having a good day/night too!
You definitely make some good points.
I can kind of see similarities between Rhysand and Aelin, but at the same time, I don't.
Aelin, for all her faults and mistakes, had at least tried to do the right thing, no matter how misguided it was. She was selfish and reckless and ended up hurting people close to her, but she owned up to it. She was also young. She was, what like 19-20? Not an excuse, but a factor.
Rhysand, on the other hand... God, where do I even start?
It's weird because ACOTAR is so different from TOG in terms of writing, and I'm just talking about first person/third person POVs.
I honestly believe that SJM tried to make the series black and white. Tamlin Bad, Rhysand good. Eris bad, Mor good. Nesta bad, Feyre good... and accidentally ended up with a controversial mess.
I mean good for her. Publicity is publicity no matter if it's positive or negative (here we are talking about it), but yeah.
Rhysand was supposed to be this morally grey character, but she ended up making him a self praising, self-proclaimed king of feminism, most powerful High Lord with nothing to back it up.
○ He gives Feyre 'choices' only when the outcome is in his favor.
○ He claims he's all for women's freedom to choose whatever they want... yet he lets those Illyrian camps keep women as glorified slaves and praises the leaders for giving them 2 hours of training.
○ He's 'the most powerful High Lord' yet he can't control the HC, and the camp leaders barely respond to him.
○ He, Feyre, and the IC feel entitled to information that affects the whole of Prythian... for what I don't know.
○ I'm not even going to get into the acts he commits against his 'family' bc I would be here for a while.
○ He encouraged his mate to take her petty revenge on Tamlin, destroying his entire court in the process, innocent lives and homes, not to mention making Prythian more vulnerable to Hybern.
○ He got mad at Nesta for giving the mask to Bryce... isn't that what he did with the book? Except he stole it and destroyed Summer Court property while Nesta controls the mask.
You're right about his control issues, though, as was seen with Nesta every time she didn't listen to him. I can see how that would relate to the lack of control he felt UTM, but...
Did 50 years UTM getting SA affect him? Obviously. I don't disregard the trauma he went through, but I also don't turn a blind eye to the things he did UTM.
He assaulted his mate with no excuse. He could've easily left her in that cell instead of making her wear a napkin and get drunk against her will. Amarantha didn't even care when he paraded her around and only got mad when she saw them kissing.
The children of the Winter Court that were killed, I don't know why it was brushed off with no consequences because who else would have done it? Daematis are extremely rare, and somehow, there was another one powerful trapped under the mountain, but he doesn't know who? Another Daemati who was working for Amarantha and didn't call out Rhysand on the Claire Beddor lie?
God, this turned into a rant, I know, and I'm sorry, lol.
I personally don't see a redemption arc satisfying enough happening or at all really. I read somewhere that Rhysand was created after SJM's husband Josh... yk where I'm going with this.
Anyway, if you sat through this, thanks!

aight, we back and we're goin in tabbatha, brace urself.
(i reread the latest chapters because a full absorption was required)
as someone who adores psychology and analyzing literature as well as having dealt with depression, you really hit the nail on the head with chapters 15 and 16.
it was super healing to read readers experience through the beginning of the chapter, with the sisters comforting each other in a very vulnerable way and then taking that comfort away. i ADORE you as an writer for making that choice, even if it sucks in the moment. i think it really shows how much youve grown as an author and i would so sososososo happily read a published novel by you. your humility regarding angst drives me a lil insane with how visceral of emotions you put your readers through tho 😂
you show SO much expertise imo with how you eased us into chapter 16 and the overall tone by beginning with feyre and rhys. by showing us how devastated she was over this and rhys' reaction being just to care for his mate, not truly caring about readers own wellbeing.
moving into readers pov and showing us just HOW bad her depression has gotten since the accident with azriel. cassian sitting outside of her door, and idk about anyone else but he came off as a little abrasive when he addressed reader? but i digress, it took literal days for her sisters to be able to get through to her and to get reader to open up to them about 💫why💫. and then the sisters curling up in bed how they used to and just holding tight, because like one of the other anons mentioned, that the born fae will NEVER truly understand the archeron sisters. and then you nail that point in AGAIN by having rhys interact alone with reader. her terror and her spiralling thoughts, and his disregard for how SHE truly is? his hasty departure where you can feel him disregard her as a loose cannon that he now has to handle the fallout of and Nesta's rescue. because she of all people know how he is with anyone but those he deems important in the moment :(
(the paragraph detailing what reader would have said to each sister respectively made me BAWL, like end of kingdom of ash kinda bawl, so massive respect for that alone.)
the ending with mor has got to be my favorite representation of her post ACOSF, just because ive always believed sjm wanted the focus of this series to be how massively flawed her characters are (and purposely so). you showed the courtier, the commander, AND the ruler of the hewn city very well in her reaction to readers actions and her newly uncovered involvements with eris. because ultimately mor has every reason to be upset with reader regarding eris, but she took her words too far because of her love for the IC. which is a massive flaw all of them possess, that you show BEAUTIFULLY throughout the series.
i also really love the decisions youve made with creating reader's character in general. it makes sense that she would be pushed to the side for so long, its been years that weve been waiting for nesta and elain to heal and so imagining a world where there are four sisters? Perfection, truly. the angst is 🥰🥰🥰
as a chronic lurker on tumblr, ao3, and wattpad respectively for the past decade. You are one of the few writers ive found that makes me want to reread ACOTAR after finding it a lil disappointing at times compared to sjm's other series (no hate, im just a tog and cc ride or die 😂) so when i felt as emotional and inspired as i did, it only makes sense that you hear just how amazing of a writer you are💖 I hope that this brings you some joy while plotting how to torture your readers next.
Respectfully foaming at the mouth waiting for the next chapter.
-🤠
‘as someone who adores psychology and analyzing literature as well as having dealt with depression, you really hit the nail on the head with chapters 15 and 16.’
Okay, I don’t want to get super personal and kind of blabber and waffle all over the place since we’re literally just starting, but hearing people say that they can relate to reader—whether through her anxiety, how introverted she is, or through the moments when she spirals—it kind of bittersweet? As a writer, I feel rewarded that you’re experiencing a connection of some sort with reader, but at the same time it’s hard knowing that those experiences are real emotions for so many people?
‘it was super healing to read readers experience through the beginning of the chapter, with the sisters comforting each other in a very vulnerable way and then taking that comfort away. i ADORE you as an writer for making that choice, even if it sucks in the moment.’
This is so interesting because I know I was quite stressed about uploading chapter 16 since I was worried the calm at the beginning would be too much of a 180° after the intensity of chapter 15? I thought it might be too slow-paced and that perhaps I should have tried to keep that tension going, but at the same time chapter 15 was written intended to be either the first or second highest tension point?
I’m flattered though that you think it was a good choice to have those sweet moments at the beginning and then to end on the angst? Personally I think that’s just a habit now to keep people engaged? 😅
‘i think it really shows how much youve grown as an author and i would so sososososo happily read a published novel by you.’
Is this payback for the angst of cbmthy? Are you trying to make me cry in return? I think it would be fun to write a book but at the same time very draining? I suppose I don’t have to write it now 😅 maybe if I make it to fifty I can sit down and give writing a go, but I’m not sure how realistic it is for me to consider writing a book at the moment :/
Still, thank you so much for such a high compliment—it kind of blows my mind that you’d be interested in an actual physical book 🧡💛
‘your humility regarding angst drives me a lil insane with how visceral of emotions you put your readers through tho 😂’
I genuinely think it might be a case of some of the stuff that pops up in cbmthy/other fics happens to hit specific emotional soft spots? I still don’t think of cbmthy as being particularly sad—it has angsty parts definitely—but to be fair I know the full story whereas you’re still coming out of one of the lowest parts? I’m sure that makes a difference :)
‘you show SO much expertise imo with how you eased us into chapter 16 and the overall tone by beginning with feyre and rhys. by showing us how devastated she was over this and rhys' reaction being just to care for his mate, not truly caring about readers own wellbeing.’
Oh my gosh please I feel like you’re assigning me way too much credit 😭
Honestly it just felt like it made sense to start with Rhys and Feyre since we haven’t really seen them at all it would be a good way to possibly catch some people off guard!! I also just couldn’t figure out how to start it from reader’s perspective since it felt too ‘noisy’(?)—a lot of the choices are heavily influenced by whether or not I feel I can make a scene work, so if I can’t I have to switch it to a different one!! I wouldn’t say it’s anything near expertise 😭 (but I appreciate it nonetheless)
‘cassian sitting outside of her door, and idk about anyone else but he came off as a little abrasive when he addressed reader?’
I think that’s a mix between me genuinely being a little unsure how to write his character and the circumstances? Cassian knows that reader tried to kill herself, that Nesta has had thoughts like those, and that Nesta cares for reader—that plus it being around the middle of the night I guess it was kind of a shift between him being unsure how to approach her since she might still be spiralling, and not wanting to overwhelm her which is why the talking was so minimal? He’s torn between worrying for Azriel who’s his brother and also reader who’s his mate’s younger sister—I think he might have it the most difficult besides reader if I’m honest in terms of conflicting feelings? It was supposed to be a little weird though, since reader doesn’t know what going on, and isn’t particularly familiar with Cassian? Comparatively with her sisters or Bas, I mean :)
‘and then the sisters curling up in bed how they used to and just holding tight’
This was such an enjoyable scene to write and probably one of my favourites so far 🧡💛 I hope it was as pleasant to read as it was to write
‘by having rhys interact alone with reader. her terror and her spiralling thoughts, and his disregard for how SHE truly is?’
I’m glad that this kind of showed? I don’t want Rhys to appear totally insensitive to reader because I think that would be too ooc for him, but he cares for her because she’s his mate’s sister, not because of her. And he still has to think as High Lord, and even putting Mor’s history with Eris aside, Eris’s a dangerous opponent because of how manipulative he can be, and that paired with reader’s more naive side that’s searching for affection from someone isn’t a promising combination?
Even then though, he’s still lost his own sister, so I feel that impedes his ability to be entirely impartial to reader’s situation, hence the mention at the end of the conversation where he tells reader to rest and that she gave them all a scare.
But yeah, he’s a little cold I suppose to her
‘(the paragraph detailing what reader would have said to each sister respectively made me BAWL, like end of kingdom of ash kinda bawl, so massive respect for that alone.)’
I’m incredibly sorry 😔 KoA level of tears shed? 🫢 I feel awful, I’m so sorry 😭🧡💛 (I did enjoy writing that paragraph and the one after it, so I guess it kind of succeeded in its assigned task 😬😭)
‘because ultimately mor has every reason to be upset with reader regarding eris, but she took her words too far because of her love for the IC.’
This is such a nice take that I hadn’t thought of in these specific terms?
I think the born-fae ones of the IC will naturally have a different kind of bond than the sisters do just due to history and experience, but I hadn’t really considered Mor’s reaction to be one that might be fuelled by love for her family because the scene was written from reader’s perspective?
On a slight side note, I find it so enjoyable to see this different take on Mor’s actions since so far I think most people have been somewhat agitated with Mor’s behaviour (and I kind of agree it wasn’t the best way to go about it) so it’s interesting that you’re speculating over her reasons and actually considering her position? 🧡💛
‘the angst is 🥰🥰🥰’
Thank you very much 🧡💛
A year ago I probably would have been concerned to hear something like this, but I guess with the majority of cbmthy supposing to be angsty, it’s good to know it’s having the desired effect? 🫣🧡💛
‘(no hate, im just a tog and cc ride or die 😂)’
We could have an entire conversation about this because I adore Throne of Glass but have struggled so much with Crescent City (I think the modern setting really throws me off?)
‘so when i felt as emotional and inspired as i did, it only makes sense that you hear just how amazing of a writer you are💖 I hope that this brings you some joy while plotting how to torture your readers next.’
Being completely transparent with you I read through your ask multiple times and took a pause in between each one because I kept getting so overwhelmed (in a good way)
I’m so flattered that you wanted to write in this level of detail about the events of ch. 16 of your own accord??? It blows my mind and I want to say just how much I sincerely appreciate you coming into my asks to chat about this story that was by no means planned or supposed to happen but I’m so glad it did 🫂🧡💛

Elain Archeron Character Analysis:
Elain's mind is:
June Osborne
An internal dialogue queen who is deeply analytical and a mastermind at strategy. Someone whose thoughts are a closely guarded secret to even those around her. Someone who is always assessing her surroundings, the people she interacts with, and the possible outcomes. Someone who is in a constant silent conversation with herself delving through her observations and strategies, thoughts, and plans. A person who knows how to mask her true feelings and is able to project a desired image, all while plotting several steps ahead.
Tumblr media
Elain's method of using that mind is:
Penelope Featherington
An unsuspecting wallflower gathering information. But nonetheless, a total mastermind at obtaining information and strategising plans to achieve her goals. She is someone who is using her sweet and innocent demeanor to disarm those around her, making it easier for her to gather intelligence. The baker, the gardner, the sister....the intelligent spy.
Tumblr media
Elain's Plan :
Severus Snape
Subterfuge. Subterfuge. Subterfuge. Playing the role of mole, quite excellently. And I theorize working with the Band of Exiles.
Tumblr media
Signs of a Spy Master:
"She (Feyre) nodded toward Azriel. “I think she’s got you beat for secret-keeping.”
"Elain was again at my (Feyre) side. I hadn’t heard her steps. Hadn’t heard any sound for moments."
"Elain was in the kitchen, helping Nuala and Cerridwen prepare the evening meal." ...."They’d spent more time with Elain than even I had."
- this friendship with the shadows whisper. shouts spy to me and that she found out about what happened to Feyre UTM and is privy to other nightcourt secrets.
"She went at least once a month." ...to her father's grave...or did she? Speculative, but this this could give her an excuse and an ability to leave IC and exchange info/reandeveuz.
"But Elain had seemed more than content to simply watch the humming city, to take in the sparkling strands of faelights strung between buildings and over the squares, to sample any tidbit of food offered by an eager vendor, to listen to minstrels busking by the now-silent fountains."
"As if my sister, too, had merely been looking for an excuse to get out of the house today."
Fan Fic Crack Theory:
“The silver thread,” Elain asked. “What is that called?” The weaver paused the loom again, the colorful strings vibrating. She held my sister’s gaze. No attempt at a smile this time. “I call it Hope."
- the resistance group in Velaris. The weaver held Elains gaze to see if she could trust her. See if she could reveal the code word: Hope. The symbol: Silver Thread.
(More on this fan fic Crack Theory in a later post).
Lucien visiting at Solstice was away to feign there isn't a relationship. But in my fan fic yea, there is.
Flirtation with Az is a way to misguide the shadow slinger.

Archeron Sister Week Day 4: Favorite Moments
(My ACOTAR books are packed in boxes right now thanks to my move at the end of the month, so my favorite moments will be from memory and will unfortunately not include quotes.)
Feyre Archeron Moments:
-When she comforted the water wreath whose wings were ripped off.
-When she caught the suriel.
-When she passed the midguard wyrm task and threw a bone at Amarantha's feet.
-When she threw a shoe at Rhys's head and prepared to throw her other one (Iconic truly)
-When she talked to Cassian about Nesta and how she thought Nesta felt more deeply than others did.
-Painting her drawer for her and her sisters.
-when she crafted the water wolves.
-When she protected Lucien from Ianthe and told her to break her own hand.
-Her and Lucien's entire interaction throughout the Autumn Court/Winter Court.
-When she told Tamlin that the son was shinning when she left him.
-When she faced the Ourobous (I may have misspelled that)
-When she helped repaired the cauldron
-When she painted everyone portraits.
Nesta Archerone Moments:
-When Nesta went after Feyre so she could save her from Prythian.
-When Nesta told Feyre that they would be okay without her (Therefore letting Feyre know that it was okay for her to let go)
-The whole dinner scene in ACOMAF. (Her and Cassian's banter is always chief's kiss)
-When she surprised Feyre by making an obscene gesture at Cassian.
-When she snapped at the queens to give her sister and the IC the other part of the Book of Breathings.
-When she fought for the humans, because she felt like no one else would (Despite how they've always treated her.)
-When she offered to go to Velaris if Elain also wanted to go.
-The Cauldron scene especially when she pointed one finger at the King of Hybern.
-When she went with the others to the Dawn Court for the High Lord's meeting.
-When she told Tamlin that if he wanted someone to blame for all this to look in the mirror.
-When she defended Cassian in front of all the High Lords, and made her speech to all of them.
-When she located the cauldron by scurrying
-When she offered to be a distraction for the King of Hybern so Feyre and Amren could get to the cauldron.
-When she covered Cassian's body with her own and fought with the King of Hybern despite having little to no training to do so.
-When she beheaded the King of Hybern.
-When she thought of the idea to train the priestesses to give them something to do outside of the library.
-The Bog Scene.
-When she guarded the pass at the blood rite to make sure Gwyn and Emerie made it out safely.
-When she took out Briallyn.
-When she went to the prison to retrieve the harp and protected Cassian from Lanthys.
-When she saved Feyre, Rhys, and Nyx from death itself.
Bonus: Giving Cassian a dry biscuit.
Elain Archeron Moments:
-When she gifted Feyre paint.
-When she threw Feyre a party when she returned.
-When she told Nesta that Feyre gave for them for years so it was time to return the favor.
--When she defended Nesta during the dinner scene in ACOMAF saying they were all responsible not just Nesta.
-When she said that she hoped all the queens burned in hell.
-When she warned Feyre about Tamlin trying to approach her.
-When her visions helped out the inner circle inclding them finding out about Vassa, warning Nesta about the twin ravens and Cassian's impending death, and located the suriel for Feyre.
-When she saved the Briar by taking her with her, Feryre, and Azriel.
-When she kicked a hound off of Azriel.
-When she stabbed the King of Hybern.
-When she made dinner for everyone and baked Feyre a cake that was symbolic of their dresser for her birthday.
-When she told Feyre it was okay to spend money on herself.
-When she laughed at Nesta words when she told her to "Fuck off" in ACOSF.
Archeron sister moments:
-When Nesta and Feyre painted together and their time before that.
-When Nesta and Feyre went to the library and Feyre told Nesta to run.
-When they slept in the tent together like they used to when they were in the cabin.
-When Nesta told Feyre I love you for the first time.
-The End of ACOSF.

Exactly! To expand on this, the Acotar character all feel like their personalities exist for shock value, and to make them seem more like MCs than other characters.
Tog has always been more plot driven, while ACOTAR is more character driven, so when I read tog, I loved the plot but had it in my head that I loved the characters of acotar more. But when I went back, those characters felt stagnant.
Manon and the cadre didn't feel young and inexperienced, heck, even Fenrys, who feels like the youngest of the cadre, doesn't feel immature or inexperienced the way that the ic do. Meanwhile, characters in acotar are unchanging, which is insane for a character driven story.
The characters change and develop, we see it happening, even through other's point of view. In Empire of Storms, we can see Manon gaining respect for Aelin, and vice versa, even from povs other than their own. In KOA, Elide demonstrated strength and wisdom, slowly learning to forgive Lorcan, even from Aelin or Rowan's pov.
Meanwhile, in Acotar, internal conflicts, like Mor's sexuality, Cassian's self esteem, and struggle to gain proper respect from his own people, are set up (arguably haphazardly) but ultimately go nowhere. Cassian doesn't even change in his own book, during his own pov, much less Feyre or Nesta's pov. The Archeron sisters, Tamlin, Lucien, and Eris, are the only ones developing, but once their story is done, they don't develop anymore.
After Acowar, Feyre doesn't change. She struggles a bit in ACOFAS, but it goes nowhere because by ACOSF, she's portrayed as the perfect sister/high lady, with Nesta as the one needing to change for her sake. She becomes stagnant, like the IC, and for a story driven by characters, most of whom are interesting only in theory/concept, it makes it kind of boring. I remember thinking that the most interesting scenes were ones where the IC interact with Elain, Nesta, Tamlin, and others outside of their circle, because on their own, there's just not that much to them.
If a book that's driven by characters, it makes sense that the characters should be interesting and fun to follow, with personalities that make them distinct from one another. You should be able to describe them as individual people, whereas the IC are just carbon copies of one another, with a stereotype/niche or two to set them apart, working in a hive mind, so they argue like, twice, throughout the entire series, but forget about it within two chapters.
They're, frankly, all bark and no bite. We see them hyped up, with even Tamlin, Lucien and Tarquin being wary of the NC, and Rhysand, but nothing to show for it. Our best explanation is, that if other High Lords (meaning two HLs, one of whom is considered a 'baby' because he's only 80), are wary, there's probably a reason, but even that's thrown out of the window because they were just pretending to be deprived monsters for centuries. So why? What proof do we have of their supposed badassery?
Instead of powerful characters, it reads as children going on power trips because of inherent privilege with their supposed accomplishments existing to make them interesting to read about, which is where it falls flat.
It's not unreasonable to expect character driven stories to have actual, interesting characters with a reasonable amount of depth, that actually drive the story, and develop over time. That's not what we got in ACOTAR.
I’m sorry, but Feyre hypes the IC up so much as these badasses, when they’ve collectively defeated no one worth mentioning throughout the series is genuinely hilarious.
Tamlin killed Amarantha. Elain and Nesta killed Hybern. Nesta killed Bryallin.
Nesta was the one that fought death to bring Feyre back to life, simultaneously healing Nyx. Nesta was the one that helped Bryce with the Mask. Who found the Trove, and received Gwydion. With the rate this is going, Koschei will more than likely also be a non-IC kill.
I get it; Feyre’s young, but she’s also not that young. She acts more like a 15 year old YA heroine instead of an adult (but a young one) of 19 in Acotar. The IC are her family and she genuinely believes in their supposed badassery…except it falls flat because they ALL suck at their respective jobs. Rhysand can’t lead; Amren does squat. The Illyrians hate Cassian. Azriel is a spymaster that constantly gets caught by a not-so-ally. Mor doesn’t do her job as steward of the CoN. Well, it’s no wonder Feyre fits in so well—they’re all as qualified as she is!!!
And if this was all there is to Acotar then fine. But Nesta isn’t written like this. Or Lucien. Or Eris. Or even Tamlin. It’s just the IC, yet they’re the main characters.
It’s such a jarring shift from ToG, because at least there the fae and witches felt immortal to me. Gavriel, Lorchan, Fenrys, Rowan, Manon—it was obvious they weren’t young and inexperienced. But with Acotar, it’s like no matter how old they get they still have the maturity levels of a 15 year old. But most importantly, the trio of main characters in ToG were willing to go war for change.
Aelin, Dorian and Manon—they saw the broken world and decided to fuck shit up and fix it. It took time to change minds, yes, but it never stopped them from trying. To go to war, to die for that new world if they had to. But with Acotar, it’s repeatedly slammed in our faces that of course wing clipping still happens, of course Illyria is still a war-torn poverty ridden land, of course the CoN are depraved monsters, and no we can’t kill Keir yet because change takes time. It’s been fucking centuries and nothing to show for it.
Because while yes, it would take time, the IC has shown zero interest in actually doing their jobs. So duh nothing changes; they dream, and dream, but those dreams go nowhere because it’s like they think they could just dream enough for the stars to grant their wishes instead of actively working towards it. And it’s so frustrating because this narrative choice makes little sense except that the average reader doesn’t care.

I cannot stop thinking about the potential of an elucien book has for Elain's story. even setting aside my elucien shipping, there's just so much it could be for Elain, like:
first, just the potential of an Archeron sister returning to the Mortal Realms, and Elain's personality is the best fit for this. she, even more so than Nesta, hates being a Fae and wants to return to her life before she was thrown into the Cauldron. it would be a good way of showing that in this new world without the Wall, she doesn't have to pick between the two. she isn't just a High Fae. she's a human who was turned into a High Fae. she is both.
Vassa and Jurian also having the theme of feeling trapped in their own bodies against their will because of Hybern's cruelty mirroring the way Elain feels about being made Fae. I just need Elain to interact with these two. please it has such potential for being one of the sweetest "odd friendships" in the series.
Elain doesn't want to be coddled and treated like a fragile thing that needs to be sheltered from the world any more, and you fuckin know Vassa and Jurian are not the handholding types. hell, Lucien "Hesitated to Rescue Squishy Mortal Feyre from the Murder Woods" Spell Cleaver-Vanserra isn't really either.
straight up, I can see Elain, being so used to her sisters and the IC underestimating her, preemptively insisting that she is capable enough to help them and Jurian just being like "...yeah? you and your mean sister killed the King of Hybern. obviously you're not some damsel in distress that needs saving." (honestly lbr, Jurian is the biggest Elain and Nesta fanboy.)
Lucien and Vassa knew her father, who Elain was always close to, and they could give her some sort of closure about his death and the audience some insight into who he was during his last adventure.
Elain always wanted to see the flowers on the continent and the Band of Exiles are going to the continent shUT UP. 😭😭
Lord Graysen's bitch ass is in the Mortal Realms and I just wanna see Elain be able to look him in the eye and know she deserved better than someone who threw her aside after she went through a traumatic event. like I don't even need her to tell him off, just have her own little Elain way of acknowledging "hmm you suck and I deserved better." because I still don't think Elain has internalized that yet and she deserves to have her moment.

Because I follow the "Elain Archeron" tag, Tumblr will occasionally make recommendations on my feed and some of those happen to end up being posts written by E/riels.
One of these suggestions mentioned that Elain and Az are well suited to one another due to their quiet and reserved natures and I had to shake my head because, what?!
The Elain in the Night Court who talks softly, has hands that shake around Az, is quiet and reserved is the Elain still experiencing the effects of trauma which we know she still has because she herself confirmed it in SF.
The Elain from before:
She had come alive here, and her joy was infectious. There wasn’t a servant or gardener who didn’t smile at her, and even the brusque head cook found excuses to bring her plates of cookies and tarts at various points in the day
Elain had taken charge of planning and finding me a last-minute dress, and … it would only be for an evening.
But I tried to smile, if only for Elain, who flitted about the room, personally greeting each guest and dancing with all their important sons.
Two in the morning, and yet the party was showing no signs of slowing. / Elain was laughing among a circle of beautiful friends, flushed and brilliant. Nesta had silently left at midnight, and I didn’t bother to say good-bye as I finally slipped upstairs.
Elain, to my surprise, had a horse, a satchel of food, and supplies ready when I hurried down the stairs. My father was nowhere in sight. But Elain threw her arms around me, and, holding tightly, said, “I remember—I remember all of it now.”
“We keep it secret—we send the servants away. With the spring approaching, they’ll be glad to go home. And if Feyre needs to be in and out for meetings, she’ll send word ahead, and we’ll clear them out. Make up excuses to send them on holidays.
Order them to leave now.” “I’ll do it,” Elain said, taking a deep breath and squaring her shoulders. She didn’t wait for either of us before she strode out, graceful as a doe.
“My sister Elain can convince anyone to do anything with a few smiles.”
Does that seem like a reserved and quiet female or does that seem like someone who, while kind, takes charge and is the life of the party? Someone who comes alive when in the right place?
Does the Elain of the Night Court seem to be the center of everything that's going on or does she seem to fade in the presence of the others?
And if that's not convincing enough:
“Elain is overwhelmed by crowds.” “SHE DIDN'T USE TO BE THAT WAY". Nesta swirled her glass of amber liquid. “She loved balls and parties.” The words hung unspoken. But you and your court dragged us into this world. Took that joy away from her.
Feyre then tells Nesta she's "readjusting" and sure, Elain isn't a total shell, she's doing her best to make a life for herself but she's definitely not the vibrant person she once was.
We are told point blank that the Elain in the Night Court is different and it's clearly not a good thing.
Show me a scene where Az ever happily wandered around from person to person making conversation in a social setting outside of the IC. Show me a scene where he's happily chatting up even a single person outside the IC.
Show me a scene where people are eager to do things for Az because he's such a pleasure to be around.
Feyre wonders if Az gets some of his information from "stone cold manners" but there's never any proof of it happening and even if it had, having manners in order to spy on someone isn't the same as actually enjoying the interaction.
The fact is that Az and Elain do not have similar personalities and any connections people are trying to make is based off Elain as she is after very recent and extreme traumas.
It's a problem in this fandom that I often notice with certain groups and something they seem to do with both Gwyn and Elain.
They think Gwyn can't be interested in Az because she started SF in a low place. They look at Elain as she is in the NC and have based their entire opinion of who she is off that.
They fail to realize that ACOWAR, ACOFAS and SF are poor representations of who these two females actually are (as who they are in those books are who they are because of trauma). They fail to consider who they'll be once they've fully overcome their traumas.
Gwyn isn't going to shy away from males forever.
We've already seen growth from her in SF and she's only going to continue healing. Thinking that it's going to take too long for her to overcome what happened to her and therefore can not go on to have a happy relationship before the series ends is a disturbing mentality.
And thinking that we're not going to eventually see the return of the Elain who took charge and convinced others what to do with smiles alone, who thrived when surrounded by friends and non friends (just people in general), who loved balls and parties is a bit odd because that's the Elain who is canonically the happiest we've ever seen her to be.
And if there is the acknowledgement that we will see the return of that Elain but someone still believes she'd be well matched with Az who Cassian tells us "likes his space", it's possibly the strangest thing of all.
Sure Elain and Az are physically attracted to one another, that can not be disputed.
However what also cannot be disputed is that the Lucien who easily makes friends wherever he goes and enjoys parties, who prefers to avoid violence is an exact match for the happy version of Elain who easily makes friends, enjoys parties, and is bothered by cruelty.
Someone can prefer the opposites attract trope but it's completely false to claim that Elain and Az are similar in personality.
But regardless of what tropes we prefer, in the end what someone wants to see won't matter because SJM doesn't seem to prefer opposites attract and she's the one calling the shots.
