Congratulations and best wishes on the day of your rebirth; may you enjoy many more years as your true self. (the letter, which arrives rather innocuously amidst a stack of other post, is written in a particular dialect of inazuman kanji, and is unsigned aside from a carefully-sketched sigil that resembles a great sea serpent)

He cannot quite describe it, but something about that letter in particular prompts him to leave it for last, and open it only once he is once again alone in his office.

The message is short, but says more than many pages-long letters ever could. It leaves him thinking, wondering. There is someone out there - someone who knows. He recognizes the Inazuman language, and that thought leads his memory to supply him with the image of the pastel-colored girl with a Hydro Vision he briefly met during the film festival.

He recalls, now, that she seemed to look at him with unusual fondness, even though he was certain it was their first meeting.

Waves ever ebb and flow, carrying news and memories. Though he knows not of every detail of every nation, he knows bits and pieces. He knows of civilizations lost beneath the surface of the earth after the great war, as the Usurper prioritized their victory over the lives of the people they claimed to cherish. He knows of his wards, the Hydro Vishaps, that had lost their elemental purity, forcing his rebirth to take place elsewhere. And above all, he knows of the existence of multiple forces and factions in this upended world that did not wish for his return; it would hardly surprise him to hear that some of them actively tried to prevent it.

What he did not know of was the existence of someone who would celebrate it with gratitude, all the way in the territories of the Shogun.

Unlike many other items and messages acquired on this day, this one does not end up on his shelf, in the memento cabinet, or in the trash. Instead, he hides it in a pocket on the inside of his coat to keep it with him. Perhaps to avoid letting it be seen by undesirable eyes - and perhaps, too, for a more personal reason.

Neuvillette does not follow the Usurper's system of fate, existing outside of it - but he does hope that, one day, their paths may cross again, on a day when they will have a chance for a longer talk.

SYNOPSIS. saving twins from getting killed who turn out to be rulers of the celestia kingdom isn’t part of the plan. neither is being instated as a member of the royal guard as their gratitude. with the alarming increase of assassinations, you’re wary of everyone in the castle. who is your ally or enemy, or who will be the one to capture your heart?

a noble descended from a lineage of alchemists. albedo prefers to stay at home to tend to his research and to avoid social interactions. in spite of believing that relationships are bothersome, he’s only interested in you. as an attempt to create a friendship, he brings you flowers which one of his books suggested. he becomes self-conscious that his efforts may not be sufficient, you appear happy when thanking him and complimenting his thoughtfulness. for a split second, an awkward smile graces upon his lips.

a mercenary of oni blood. infamous in his hometown for causing trouble with the authorities with his gang. itto is a popular figure because of his “dashing” looks and abrasiveness. his overconfidence is one reason why you can’t stand him. you never met someone this unbearable. he always disturbs your training by challenging you to a duel, lots of them. comes determined to win the match, but loses every single time. perhaps you’ll indulge him once more, just to see what happens when he finally will be victorious.

captain of the royal guard and royal advisor to the throne. assassination threats have been circulating throughout the kingdom, so he constantly puts his guard up even though you saved the twins. it’s the fact that they trust a complete stranger with battle experience who can kill them any time. nevertheless, he takes you under his wing in accordance with their wishes. his paranoia is understandable, but you believe he’s too harsh on you. he assigns you extra work to prove your worth as an asset. you hope you’ll survive the initiation process.

head of house ragnvindr, tycoons of the wine industry. everyone swoons over the flame-haired man. one of the girls at the flower shop can’t stop talking about diluc like a knight in shining armor. your opinion of him is that you don’t get the hype. politics are supposedly not that important to him, but it’s a whole different story when the royal guard is involved, opposing their operations. it’s suspicious that his comments align with a vigilante who wears a ridiculous costume at night. for sure, you think he deserves respect to protect the place called home.

exiled daughter of house lawrence, the clan with a tarnished reputation. the twins are gracious enough to grant eula a position of a royal soldier, upsetting the majority of citizens. you admire her dissociation with her clan’s history, wishing everyone sees her past that. she doesn’t deserve hate for something that is beyond her control. you want to befriend her, but her sense of humor is unique in a way that it kind of gives you chills down your spine. if it makes you feel any better, she likes you for seeing her as herself.

head of house gunnhildr. jean dedicates her life to serve the kingdom, to the point where she tends to overwork. more worried about the state of the state more than her own health, she doesn’t know how to reconnect with her younger sister and what romance feels like out of the romance novels she reads. as someone who spends most of their life in one place, you sympathize with her, therefore offering to solve her dilemma. after all, both of you need breaks from interfering with assassinations. she is confused as to why she feels warm when you’re around.

𝄞༉‧₊˚. KAEDEHARA KAZUHA

a former refugee from an insular empire. upon entering the kingdom a few years ago, kazuha was thought to be an assassin which he of course got arrested for, but was pardoned and given the option to live here and serve the crown. in the present, he patrols the seas to fend off intruders. at the end of the shift, he disappears from his crew just to find you. his captain knows that he is smitten with the soldier who was trained as a mercenary. the poems he recites at sea are essentially confession letters in hopes to make you his one day.

a fellow royal soldier adopted into house ragnvindr. the elderly consider kaeya like their own grandson, but he is so far from angelic. he misleads patrollers to another direction of the crimes and dodges your questions regarding his whereabouts. the citizens might be involved in his antics, avoiding eye contact with you whenever you mention him. apparently, you’re dense, failing to notice the signs of him trying to make a move on you. he’s been doing those things to make you pay attention to him and have you all to himself in private.

𝄞༉‧₊˚. KAMISATO AYATO

head of house kamisato. responsible for managing external affairs, ayato is required to travel, always away for business. although it’s said he goes on trips most of the time, his appearance is a mystery. rumored to be tall with blue hair and a mole near his mouth, everyone joins in the hunt to find him at the royal party, sending his sister and retainer in a frenzy to protect his identity. your dance partner fits the description to a t. when the guests discover that you were dancing with the commissioner, your partner kisses your hand and whisks away into the night. 

𝄞༉‧₊˚. SANGONOMIYA KOKOMI

head of house sangonomiya. kokomi is also its military strategist. having the ability to foresee the tactics and its outcomes of another army, she is a force to be reckoned with and a valuable ally to the crown. you had the pleasure of being invited to her guest room, where she was waiting for you in an extremely thin nightgown. not the type to show emotions, it’s rare to see her amused, and she beckons you to come inside. not only is she well-versed in the art of war, she’s surprisingly an expert in the art of seduction as well.

𝄞༉‧₊˚. TARTAGLIA

a diplomat from a neighboring kingdom, or so he claims to be. there is something about childe that sets him apart from the other diplomats who visited the kingdom. your first encounter with him is not pleasant. a mutual distrust forms between the two of you, yet the space you both share is tense. one night with crazed eyes and a knife at your neck, he reveals that he was assigned to assassinate the twins. you’re in the way, but oddly enough, he doesn’t want to hurt you. it seems like he’s doing this against his will, or it’s the tension talking.

retainer of house kamisato. thoma is a fan favorite among the royal staff by being the type of servant they needed. honestly, you don’t like him. but you don’t dislike him either. the epitome of perfection, but too perfect for your taste. he’s also too nice for his own good, hearing him apologize things he isn’t at fault for and saying yes to all requests from the staff. as he serves a clan full of swordsmen, he knows how to fight. so when you unleash a surprise attack on him, he doesn’t retaliate. it reminds him of a similar incident in the past that changed his life for the worse.

a deity sworn to protect the kingdom centuries ago as a promise to one draconic god. xiao finds humans strange, but you’re even stranger, as a child who fought against a beast by yourself in the forest, accidentally fulfilling a commission for a mercenary group who struggled to kill it for months. he despises crowds, but decides to pose as a royal soldier to meet you. when you encounter a dangerous creature during your patrol, he comes to your rescue. then he whispers into your ear to call his name in times of desperation before disappearing into thin air.

a knowledgeable historian. zhongli is friendly and enjoys having casual conversations over tea. there isn’t anyone within the castle who has not been invited to his corner of the library. you have been there as a regular you already lost count. from those meetings, you track his mesmerizing amber eyes. you swear that you’ve seen them in some history books of a draconic deity who once presided over this kingdom. it’s impossible, as higher beings perished during the cataclysm, but the glint in his eyes says otherwise.

As they keep walking, Dan Heng listens carefully to Kokomi's story, registering each and every word to note down later - it would be quite rude to have her stop and shield him from the rain while he attempts to write it down, he believes.

His eyes wander between her, the serpent skull, and the road ahead of them. The electricity in the air becomes more and more palpable as they continue on the path.

He is silent in deep thought for a moment, before letting out a quiet sigh. "It is just as they say, isn't it? History is written by the victors, and who was a hero or a villain always depends on who you ask."

He knows that well, too, after all. And his previous incarnation would have known that even better. A hero, a sinner, a friend, an enemy - never a person in his own right who may have had reasons for doing what he did.

And it is not as though Dan Heng himself treated him any better.

He gives Kokomi a nod. "Thank you for telling me this story. I don't imagine I would have been able to hear it from most others I could have asked."

As she speaks of the sky, his eyes wanders upwards, towards it. After a moment of hesitation, he turns back to her.

"Your sky appears to be a barrier of sorts. It surrounds this world, and it's why Teyvat had gone undiscovered for so long. Recently however, that barrier has grown weaker, and it became possible to cross it... and to learn of this world's existence in the first place."

The unrelenting rain and thunderstorm make it hard to see, but still, far away, he can just barely make it out - a gray dot in the sky, a floating archipelago of shattered islands.

"I spoke recently to... someone, back in Fontaine, who was knowledgeable on this matter. He told me that he believed this barrier is meant to both imprison this world, and protect it from outside threats - as you also said, it has been attacked in the past, but it would also seem that the control of its current overseer is slipping. He told me that they seem to be sleeping or inactive, because of how unresponsive they are. Otherwise, outsiders such as myself would have never been allowed entry."

A flash of purple ahead of them catches his eye.

"... Is that one of the wards just ahead? We should probably check its condition."

Sagau Inazuma

When you first arrived at Inazuma, Ei tried to lock you in Musou Ishin together with her. If not for Yae Miko's insistence that you need external simulation to enjoy your life in Inazuma, you probably would not be able to see the light of the day ever again.

So, your residence changed from Musou Ishin to Tenshukaku, but what doesn't change is Ei always clinging to you by your side. You are a bit amazed and equally terrified that Ei who could change the lives of Inazuma people with her single order is always by your side.

Since Ei rarely let you out of Tenshukaku,the only ones who have the opportunity to meet you are the people from Shogunate who have assess to the castle's entrance: Kujo Sara, Yae Miko, Shikanoin Heizou, Kamisama siblings, and sometimes their housekeeper.

And in the few and far instances they have a chance to have your audience, they are only allowed to meet you through a binding screen because if dare they look directly at your counterance, they will die in the hands of Shougun's Musou no Hitotachi.

That is why Kujo Sara and everyone else in the Shogunate is seething when Arataki Itto kidnap you out of the castle to search for Onikabuto together, a worried looking Kuki Shinobu, following behind you two.

When the Tenyou commission finally finds you, you are thoroughly exhausted from playing all around the forest and walking around the city. Arataki Itto is forgiven because of your insistence but still Ei is planning to execute him the moment she gets a chance.

You have already known Kaedehara Kazuha since he is often at the Crux. So, you always visit Ritou when the Crux anchors at the harbor. But of course you are always accompanied by samurai from Tenyou commission. Even Ei who stays shut-in sometimes follows you out of her domain to the harbor.

Unfortunately, those who have few chances to meet you are those from Watatsumi Island. This again is because Ei refuses to let you go out often, much less a far away island like Watatsumi.

You often quarrel with her because of how he always wants to confine you under her eyesight. But when she cries at your feet at how she lost so many of her beloved family and friends and how she worries the same happens to you, you find yourself unable to blame her much.

However, that makes Sangonomiya Kokomi and Gorou unable to meet you unless they come to Inazuma city for negotiations. It makes the two wonder if you are angry at them and the Watatsumi Army for declaring war against the Shogunate.

But that can't be farther from truth. You always felt sorry for Watatsumi Island for their difficult situations. And you have always wanted to help them in whatever way you can.

One thing to note is that Kamisato Ayato is the only one who doesn't seem to be as devoted towards you as the others as opposed to his sister who can be counted as one of the most devotee. He respects you an appropriate amount so as not to be criticized by others. But he is not truly dedicated to you. And he is too smart for you to understand what is going on his mind so you are a bit scared interacting with him.

In contrast, his sister is ultra devoted. Moreover, unlike Ei who is very controlling of your lifestyle, Ayaka support you in whatever you do. And since she knows what is it like to have a life of constantly being watched and assessed, she helps you out in whatever way she can if you want some peace and quiet. So, she is one of the few people who gained the honor of calling theirselves your friend.

Another one you are scared of is Yae Miko. But unlike Ayato, you can feel her love for you. But still she is a sly fox who is always teasing you or troubling you with her antics. Despite that, she is really sharp when it comes to you and Inazuma's situation. So, you, like Gorou, are a bit nervous around her.

Analysis: Genshin Impact Autistic characters - KOKOMI

This is going to be a section in my blog talking about which Genshin characters I think fit very well inside the autism spectrum. If we know Hoyoverse's record, we know that they're not autism friendly (*cof cof* cure for autism in Tears of Themis *cof cof*) but well, neurotypical people accidentally writing neurodivergent characters happens a lot, and at the end of day, it is free to our own interpretation how we see them.

I want to open this section with my favourite Genshin character: Sangonomiya Kokomi. I relate to her a lot (partially the reason why I'm convinced she's autistic) but keep reading if you want to know specifically why I think she is.

INTRODUCTION

Kokomi is a 5 star character, Hydro catalyst from Inazuma. Lorewise, she is Watatsumi's Divine Priestess; in other words, the leader of Watatsumi Island, a small town that relies a lot on fishing and agriculture to subsist.

In terms of 'waifu-uwu', Kokomi is your average overworked waifu who shows a shy demeanor, steady leadership but delicate presence. Is very feminine presenting, has a quirky military side and shows a soft spot for traveller, probably because she falls in love with him too (and yeah, I talk specifically about Aether because we know who thinks this way). A lot of western people, especially men, also reduce her to this stereotype common in Genshin Impact women.

However, we can take some more steps and see in depth everything that Kokomi has to offer.

HYPERFIXATIONS

One of the aforementioned cliches is actually true: Kokomi is an overworked woman, but not in the same way as Ganyu or Keqing, for example. While they overwork themselves because they seem to enjoy being occupated or feeling useful, Kokomi's job is a responsability that she actually doesn't wan't: just by reading her voice-overs (More About Sangonomiya Kokomi: IV), we discover that what she really wanted to do was study military strategy and become an adviser.

And this is one of the most interesting points about Kokomi: she loves military strategy. While some people reduce it to a quirky trait, I think it can be clearly interpreted as an autistic hyperfixation. Not only Kokomi is presented to us as a girl who is an expert on this field (Archon quest was so horribly written that it doesn't do her justice, but canonically she is very smart and a strategy master), but she also tells us on voice-overs that she loves military books the most (Chat: Reading), and wanted it to be her full-time job.

The least we can say is that it is her passion, one that fuels her motivation so much, just like how autism or writing fuels mine to the point of wanting to work on that field and enjoying it on my spare time or when I'm regulating myself.

BURNOUT AND MASKING

In relation to the last point, there's another reason as to why Kokomi preferred to be a military advisor rather than the island leader: social interaction.

As stated in both voice-overs and her quest, social interaction exhausts Kokomi to the point she 'gets negative'. She also tells us (Sangonomiya Kokomi's Troubles) that she's not good at communicating with others, and that putting on her Divine Priestess airs helps her with it. Kokomi is a clear case of a women who does masking in order to survive socialization with other people, and in this case, her being a figure of authority well-respected and loved by her people helps her a lot with the interactions she's forced to endure day by day. I see myself on this, because I too feel more at ease interacting with other people if I have a title that gives me clues about how others will be talking to me (being the class rep, an administrator...) but it still exhausts you, and usually it is even more tiring because you have to keep up to extra expectations. The 'getting negative' references being so burn out that you can't keep masking anymore, making you seem gloomy/uninterested/rude/clueless.

In Kokomi's quest Dracaena Somnolenta, we learn that when Kokomi is too tired of social interaction, she hides for a while on a cave where she sleeps and reads books in solitude. That is decompression. All autistic people need it to regulate their bodies and mind.

For Kokomi, this decompression time is very important, but also a secret she has. Social interactions represent a sensory overload for her, and we can see it on her dialogues during Dracaena Somnolenta, especially when we go find her to the cave:

Sangonomiya Kokomi: Oh... you noticed? I guess I haven't quite mastered the ability to hide how I'm feeling. I'll keep working at it... (masking)

Sangonomiya Kokomi: To be honest, I'm not really cut out to be a leader. At first, my dream was to read up on military strategy and perhaps become an adviser. (another hint to her hyperfixation)

Sangonomiya Kokomi: Constantly communicating with people, trying to retain their morale, having to read between the lines, making sure everyone gets the recognition they deserve... It's such hard work. (more masking, she has to force herself to do all these things because it doesn't naturally come to her)

Sangonomiya Kokomi: So whenever I feel overwhelmed, I come here to just lose myself in a book and relax for a while... (decompression)

Kokomi also explains that she uses spoon theory to regulate her energy. Spoon theory is a method created by Miserandino and it is used to ration our energy during the day. So yeah, Kokomi literally uses for herself a method that is directed to disabled people; whether it is autistic individuals, people with chronic illneses and pain, etc.

In her case, she writes it on her diary, adding or substracting points according to the tasks she has done and the events that happened to her. Traveller, whether it be Aether or Lumine, seem to be an individual that Kokomi trusts and feels comfortable with; so much that their presence doesn't disregulate her, but actually does the opposite. I don't like to think of it as a romantic thing, but rather as a platonic neurodivergent bond that they both share with each other.

A cute detail is that she also speaks loudly about those energy points with people she trusts, like Traveller and Paimon. I think it's beautiful when neurodivergent people feel free to explain out loud the 'weird' things they do after enduring so much masking.

SENSORY REGULATION

Although I already touched the most important points as to why I think Kokomi is autistic, there are some others I want to emphasize, being one of them sensory regulation and disregulation.

Kokomi is clearly disregulated by social interaction, and uses reading books, resting alone and militar strategy as a decompression mechanism. She also enjoys diving, and as she says, it fills her heart with peace even if the world underseas isn't bright and sunny like the dry land. Water can be very pleasant for some autistic people due to the stimuli and the temperature (I, for example, love swimming but hate being wet and wrinkled afterwards), and I like to think that, when Kokomi is at her limit, she goes diving to calm her mind (this is a headcanon lol, unless I missed something on lore).

Kokomi also dislikes seafood (fish, crustaceans...) and it's funny because I also hate seafood due to it's texture and flavour. Her favourite food, Bird Egg Sushi, is described by her as both 'simple' and 'simple to prepare'. Now I could be analyzing too deeply, but autism and sensory problems with food usually go hand in hand, making us prefer the simplest food possible and avoiding dishes with too much things on them, strong flavours or unpredictable textures... So yeah, Kokomi also fits this.

JUSTICE AND MORALS

Kokomi is leader of Watatsumi Island and goes against the Vision Hunt Decree that Raiden Shogun imposes on Inazuma. As she states on her voice-over (About Raiden Shogun) she doesn't feel rightfully to categorize or criticize Raiden Shogun's actions as good or bad. However, as she fights against it for the welfare of her people, we can assure that she does fight back against things she considers an injustice, even if it burns her out; just because that's what is right.

She also shows a great worry about all her people. If it's raining, she thinks about the fishermans who may not be able to return. The soldiers that died under her charge are in her mind even when she has agreed to not talk about them out loud. That should ideally be the average prototype of a leader, but just by watching Raiden Shogun we can agree that it is, in fact, not it. Seeing Kokomi, a woman who dislikes social interaction and burns herself to fulfill her duty, being at the same time so empathetic, considerate and kind to her people is something I see in a lot of neurodivergent people. The urge to please and help others the best you can do, even if it means sacrificing yourself in the process; not healthy at all, but so pure at the same time.

Kokomi also says something interesting on one of her voice-overs (Chat: Fish) which is that 'respect must be given to the will of every creature'. It is no mistery that she loves sea creatures so much, and I also think that the reason she dislikes seafood is because of this same thought about respecting all lives in nature. Not a very important point, but worth to mention.

I think I covered all the points I wanted to talk about, but if I forgot about anything, I'll update the analysis and add it.

There are a lot of characters I want to talk about apart from Kokomi (Albedo, Alhaitham, Sucrose, Freminet, Fischl, Noelle, Chongyun, Shenhe...) but I will take it slow to bring them all here. Autism spectrum is so colorful and endless that each character has significant but different traits, and I'll cover them up little by little.

After the idea floated around my mind for a while now, I decided to give a try to writing headcanons/short fics, specifically for Genshin Impact (with now a bit of Honkai Star Rail), with a particular focus on comfort/fluff.

I got inspired to do this after seeing how often I would turn to comfort or fluff content on tumblr, as a way to cope with the void of loneliness (sometimes overthinking too). As such, why not add my own contribution... as long as it can, hopefully, provide some relief to one person out there.

Quick tangent, I will always find it stunning and humorous getting these messages because it never occurs to me other people have internalized my nonsense. The list format you’ve done gives the vibes of a college student reading back the information they took to their teacher and it makes me smile for some reason 😂

To answer your question, they’re just good friends that have gone to dinner before. The hangout has tempted me greatly but I’ve made no real commitment. It’s like the Layla hangout; it’s so precious but I try not to jump the gun just because I adore a character personally. It’s odd to say but I try not to be biased and actually think about the dynamic. (I say this but Scara and Mona personally have a death grip on my favorite genshin characters and I’m not sorry about it.)

For the record, I’m just having fun with the Fontaine characters at the moment as they come It’ll probably be difficult when I actually sit down and choose my path. Some of you have definitely been around long enough to know I personally have been screaming for Lyney and Lynette as characters since the story trailer, so I mean it when I say it’s taken all my strength to not automatically pick Lyney as he keeps flirting in every line! It’s worse than Albedo.

Honestly I might make a separate list for Lumine purely for my self indulgence.
