Blue Beetle - 2006

Now I've got to write fanfiction to help lull me. After the movie today, of course.

Just small Blue Beetle (2006) ramble under the cut!!

Also I love Peacemaker in this - Mr. Reyes calls him out and he gets respectful. Realizes he's befriending a bunch of kids. Realizes he enjoys being a mentor. Etc.

Also Khaji Da is also just always fantastic to read. I love how much he considered Jaime his friend, how protective he is of him. His little human habits he picks up as he throws into his sentience - like his humor, the "oops," and assuring Jaime they're taking on the Reach together.

I love that Traci tried to help as she can, she's supportive of Jaime, even when she doesn't think it's the best idea. She gives him as much help as he can to try and make sure he won't go in blind.

I love how Mils wasn't immediately over Jaime being the beetle. How his abuela shuts down any because talk of the Blue Beetle immediately in #26. I love that Brenda and Paco are always there for him, that they're integral - I wish we'd have seen more of Nadia and Hector, because they were too.

I love that La Dama is trying for Brenda, she is. But that doesn't mean Brenda just goes home with her immediately. She gets to take it at her pace.

I live that despite everything her fears, Jaime never had to go out alone: he always has his family, and even when he won't scare them with the details, he always has Khaji Da- who we know he trusts fully, and vise versa.

Well, I read the story about the reaper and now I know why he and Don dislike each other even more. Firstly, the reaper is always angry, and Don prefers a calm environment and anger at the level of jokes or rare fights, as happens in families, which also leads to the second thing - Gabe considers the family to be a manipulation of which he considered overwatch and he is comfortable that there is no such thing in talon, but Don is the opposite makes a family out of his colleagues since he lost his own as a child and he needs some kind of even artificial support, not only from his named sister, because the berserker mode eats him from the inside (one of his gaming features). Well, thirdly, Don is trying with all his might to his humanity despite what Moira did to him, which is why Gabe considers him a weakling.

"the contents of my piggy bank are being saved for an extremely special occasion, i'm not blowing it all on you, big guy," he laughs, though antonio doesn't actually know what he's saving any money for - though he is saving. "your eyes are giving out on you though, man. i still can't grow anything that isn't just a couple of patches around my face," he admits with more laughter. "but hey, you've got the whole clean shaven thing going on, and the girls love you, so i figured i don't need any facial hair." he was being honest, but joking around about it all at the same time. "maybe we should unionize against her," he suggests, acting serious though he clearly isn't. "get back everything we're owed." he grins. "she seemed to be pretty happy with the end result, which honestly? i was kinda worrying about." antonio isn't scared of juliet, nor does he think that she's bossy, but he knew that he had to do his finest work for the suit. "no plans, i'm just here to bother chandler again, as usual." and now that chandler lives with hector, that generally means that he's come around to bother hector, too. "i'm surprised she even told me her new address, you know, surprised she still lets me follow her around annoying her," he laughs as he carries his share of everything up to the apartment. "but i'm thankful for it. had nothing else to do today."

"what? you don't have shit saved up in your piggy bank? oh shit you paid for the pizza and didn't ask for your money back? look at you, i think your facial hair is growing in too." he was clearly teasing, getting a kick out of it but it did make him laugh how earnestly tony defended himself. "i'll tell chandler you're keeping tabs though," he added with a wink. "she never pays me back either, don't hold your breath." the mention of finn's sister saying they needed to go somewhere proper made him laugh, not at all surprised by that. it was definitely within juliet's nature and he could see her saying it in his mind. if he was there he would have laughed too and he wondered what antonio's face must have looked at. "yeah jules is real set on making sure it's the perfect wedding. including making sure her brother doesn't drown in his suit. i'm sure you helped him plenty though." his smile stayed as tony replied, always getting a kick out of how energetic and on board he was for anything. it reminded him a lot of who had been once upon a time. though he knew it would be hard for anyone to realize there was a time that hector wasn't as smooth and at ease as he was now. "alright muscle man, go ahead." he grabbed the rest of it and led tony back into the apartment building. "so you just hanging out with us today or you and chandler got plans?"

Hector é Líder do Chalé 9. 

🛠 ― passado

Hector nasceu e cresceu no Brooklyn, criado por sua avó depois de um acidente tirar a vida de sua mãe quando ele ainda era um bebê. Embora não soubesse de sua origem divina, sabia — ou pelo menos suspeitava — de que havia algo de errado com ele. 

Era uma criança inquieta, com um gosto peculiar por tecnologia, o que resultava em um quarto desorganizado, abarrotado de parafusos, engrenagens, emaranhados de fios e peças indistinguíveis de antigos maquinários. Embora pudesse facilmente se encaixar no estereótipo do "garoto estranho" e introvertido, ele era exatamente o oposto. As pessoas se sentiam à vontade ao seu lado, atraídas por seu sorriso fácil, seu bom humor e seus olhos atentos a cada detalhe. Sempre curioso, tinha uma resposta pronta sobre como algo funcionava ou um comentário espirituoso na ponta da língua. 

Seu temperamento agitado e a dificuldade em seguir regras resultavam em uma longa lista de detenções, que ele agora justifica como parte de sua genética divina. Na época, porém, isso significava passar boa parte do tempo sob os castigos impostos por sua avó — a maioria deles envolvia trabalhar no antiquário da família, organizando prateleiras e catalogando objetos. Curiosamente, Hector nunca se importou tanto com essas punições. Pelo contrário, ele adorava passar horas ali, perdido em devaneios sobre as histórias por trás de cada peça, imaginando como poderia usá-las em suas invenções.

Costumava agir sempre com as melhores intenções, movido por uma sede de se superar e uma criatividade insaciável que o empurrava a experimentar. No entanto, sua impaciência e atração pelo caos frequentemente sabotavam seus esforços — e, se não fosse por essas falhas, talvez tudo tivesse funcionado melhor.

Descobriu que era um semideus aos onze anos, quando foi atacado por uma Benevolente que, além de tentar devorá-lo, causou um grande estrago no antiquário da avó. Desde então, para garantir sua segurança e a de sua avó, ele passou a morar permanentemente no Acampamento Meio-Sangue, embora ainda mantenha a tradição de voltar para casa religiosamente todo Dia de Ação de Graças.

🛠 ― o acampamento

Os primeiros anos de Hector no Acampamento Meio-Sangue foram surpreendentemente bons. Pela primeira vez, ele se sentia parte de algo maior, como se finalmente tivesse encontrado seu lugar. Ele até aprendeu a gostar de matar uns monstros. E, agora, suas esquisitices podiam ser facilmente justificadas pela herança de Hefesto, o que certamente lhe trazia uma nova sensação de conforto, até então desconhecida.

O Bunker 9 logo se tornou seu refúgio favorito. Enquanto a maioria de seus irmãos — que ele adorava ter, aliás — dedicava-se a criar e aprimorar armas, Hector se interessava por algo diferente: acessórios. Ele passava horas desenvolvendo objetos que poderiam ajudar os semideuses em suas missões, tarefas cotidianas e principalmente em campo de batalha. 

No entanto, foi justamente uma dessas invenções que virou sua vida de cabeça para baixo. Durante uma missão, um de seus apetrechos falhou de maneira catastrófica, transformando a situação em um verdadeiro caos. O erro acabou custando a vida de um de seus companheiros de missão — seu melhor amigo.

A tragédia o marcou profundamente, deixando um peso de culpa que ele carrega até hoje, embora quase ninguém o culpe diretamente pelo ocorrido. Desde então, Hector se tornou mais recluso, passando a maior parte de seu tempo nas forjas, dedicando-se incansavelmente à criação de artefatos que raramente usa;  cada novo projeto servindo como um lembrete silencioso de sua falha.

🛠 ― personalidade

Hector é um nerd completo. Inteligente demais para o que diz respeito às suas criações e socialmente desajustado, ele passa boa parte do tempo lendo revistas em quadrinho que, segundo ele, são uma fonte de inspiração para suas novas invenções. 

Ele é o tipo de pessoa que prefere passar horas perdido em experimentos e invenções, mas se torna desajeitado quando tem que falar sobre seus sentimentos ou se destacar, motivo pelo qual ele odiou ser nomeado o conselheiro de seu chalé, por mais que adore o papel de irmão responsável que a posição o faz desempenhar. O problema está em lidar com os líderes dos outros chalés. 

Se torna tagarela quando fica nervoso e seu humor autodepreciativo desabrocha — o que, na maioria das vezes, é um grande inconveniente. 

Está sempre buscando aprimorar suas criações e nutre um desejo profundo de fazer a diferença por meio de sua inteligência. Contudo, o fracasso de um de seus artefatos deixou nele uma marca difícil de se apagar Desde aquele evento, Hector luta contra a culpa e sofre com a insegurança sobre suas habilidades.

Hector tem uma natureza extremamente leal e, embora seja tímido, ele possui uma bondade que o impulsiona a se sacrificar pelos amigos, mesmo que isso o coloque em risco ou o tire de sua zona de conforto. A culpa que sente pelo que aconteceu em sua missão faz com que ele se isole em momentos de insegurança, mas ele nunca foge quando seus amigos precisam dele.
