Reading the passage aloud will help the person remember more clearly or help the new memories settle in.

BACKGROUND: From an early age, Murasaki was conscripted to work for the Seventh Agency (a more secretive, shadier branch of the Japanese government), where she was forced to use her Ability to rewrite memories of people involved in scandals to fit the cover-up stories. An accident which happened when Murasaki was 18 traumatized her to the point she became unable to use her Ability (signified by the disappearance of her diary), and was thus considered useless and 'let go', her former handlers being confident that she was too traumatized and guilt-ridden to ever speak about the Seventh Agency. They were right; to this day, years later, the mere mention of the Seventh Agency is enough to send Murasaki into a panic. Alone and with no place to go, Murasaki eventually found shelter and employement at a bar/café (Bar Lupin in the PM Verse, Café Uzumaki in the ADA Verse) until she could get back on her feet and start healing, surrounded by people who care about her rather than wanting to exploit her for her Ability.

BACKGROUND: A child prodigy and teen genius, Arthur was once an idealistic young man who studied medicine and became a doctor to help those in need and make the world a better place. The Order of the Clock Tower reached out to him with the offer to fund his research, which Arthur gladlt accepted, only to discover years later that the Order had been testing his experimental drugs on unwilling subjects such as prisoners and traitors as a form of torture. Horrified by the discovery, Arthur resorted to testing his concoctions on himself to prevent them being misused and as a form of self-punishment, and he eventually ended up defecting. Under the influence, Doyle accidently stowed away into a cargo ship directed to Yokohama, where he stumbled into a few days later, delirious with hunger, dehydration and withdrawal. As luck would have it, he was found by the staff of Bar Lupin, who nursed him back to health and gave him a place to stay.
