(part 4)

The days following your note of leave were completely silent, though you couldn't help but say you weren't surprised. You couldn't deny the twisting pain in your gut every time you stumbled across more posts about your former band and their newest member, your replacement. It always hurt to see how they were seemingly doing much better with "Sadie" than they were ever doing with you. They never once really gave you a second glance, simply seeing you as an extra burden to carry due to your stage fright, and always put that against you during gigs. It was about time for a fresh start.

"Is Y/N gonna freeze up again?" Followed by stupidly sickening snickers of agreement. You hated it.

Constantly overshadowed by your former bandmates, you were sick of it. Sick of being overcasted as just another voice, another unheard opinion, another burden.

After weeks of thoughtful consideration, you finally snatched up that 141 business card that had been collecting dust on your bedside table and walked over to your desk, plopping down in your chair with a heavy sigh and letting your eyes roam over the wording one last time, before finally biting the bullet and giving it a call, your hand subtly shaking in anxiety as your fingers dialed the number on the card.

You listened to the tone dial for a few moments, knee bouncing slightly in anticipation, feeling like every moment passing was hours.

"Price! Ye phone is ringin!'" Soap shouted from across the couch in Price's flat with Gaz. Price looked up from over the kitchen counter where he was currently nursing a cigar over an ash tray. As for Ghost, he was out doing god knows what. He was never the verbal guy. "Who is it?" John grunted, weary eyes flickering up to meet Soap's gaze with a small sigh. Soap glanced over at the phone once again. Gaz as well looked up curiously from his spot in the kitchen, downing a bottle of water while leaning against the counter. "Some unknown number." He replied, rolling to lay on his belly, and resting his chin in his palm. Price sighed again, setting his cigar down onto the ashtray on the counter and exhaling the smoke through his nose, before crossing the room to his phone and picking it up off the coffee table and bringing it to his ear. "Hello?" He placed a hand on his hip, glancing out the window as he listened to a familiar voice croak through the phone, immediately recognizing it as the young bird he met at the bar during the band night.

"Hey... Is this, uh... John Price?" You spoke sheepishly, twirling a strand of hair around your finger to try and take your mind off of the crippling fear of rejection despite barely even speaking to the guy properly. "It's me, Y/N... From the band night?" You added, gulping quietly.

Price leaned against the armrest of the couch beside him and glanced from Soap on the couch to Gaz in the kitchen, before nodding slightly and clearing his throat. "Yes ma'am, that'd be right." He replied respectfully. "I'm interested in your offer as a secondary vocalist and i'm wondering when would be a good time to... come in?" Your voice spoke through the phone once again, and by now Soap is already practically half way off the couch to put his ear against the other end of Price's phone, trying to pitch what was going on. As soon as he got a catch of who was on the other line, he couldn't help but let his smile grow wider. "Simon's gonnae be surprised..." He snickered, earning a small shove from Price as a warning.

"F'course. How does next Saturday sound?" Price hummed gruffly, pleased that he managed to get a call back after being convinced you would have forgotten or not given the offer much mind. Soap's smile widened as he heard faintly what was being said from the other end, mouthing "We got 'er!" to Gaz, earning a small smile from him as well. "Yeah... Next Saturday is fine. Thank you!" You replied, the relief in your voice slightly noticeable. You were just relieved you weren't outright turned down, and that eased your anxiety a bit.

"Perfect. I'll see ya then." Price grinned, the corners of his eyes crinkling up slightly. You two exchanged goodbyes, Price texted you the address... And that was it.

You listened to the line go flat, letting go of a breath you didn't even realize you were holding until now. That was it... right? You set your phone down against your desk with a small thud and simply sat in your own emotions for a few seconds. Today was Thursday... meaning two days to prepare. Had to make good first impression, of course, and make sure you looked presentable— but there wasn't a mental checklist without worries as well. What if i voice crack? What if my hands get clammy and I drop the mic? What if they don't like me?—

No. Get out of your head. You mentally scolded yourself as you finally pushed yourself off your desk, deciding to do what you did best and simply sit on it. It was always easier to make decisions on a clear head, as you always reminded yourself.

The days following the interview were grueling. Countless hours of preparation that frankly didn't even need to get done got done. Nothing could go wrong. The confirmation text the day of the interview threw an even deeper pit into your gut, fumbling your phone as you read the text, grabbing your car keys and purse before reaching for the front door to your apartment, and typing out a quick and short reply.

Thankfully the place wasn't too far from where you lived, which meant you didn't have to worry as much about sweating bullets through your perfectly ironed button-up during the drive even though lets face it: you'd probably still manage it either way in the state of balled up nerves you were in.

Don't worry... It's a fresh start.

Aether forgot his first years. He only knows he was adopted by his human father, the last master of the noble Iceforge family, not long after his biological parents' death. He never searched after their identity, since they were complete outsiders that didn't even spend a day in Baldur's Gate. To him, they're simply a dark facet of his past that he doesn't need to clarify.

Aether has very strong bonds with his foster father. As a wild magic sorcerer, he struggled a lot to find balance in his practice, especially as a child, but saer Iceforge helped him during all his apprenticeship with patience and cheers. Thanks to him, the young half-orc can stay in control… most of the time.

Abducted by the illithids, Aether was so stressed after waking in his pod he released his powers which then did whatever they wanted. Clumsy by nature, he caused a big mess aboard the nautiloid without even noticing, blinded by the horror of his situation. Luckily for everyone, Lae'zel succeeded in soothing him before he made the ship explode in Avernus – by hitting him sufficiently hard to let him come to his senses.

After the crash, Aether first cried a lot on the beach. As a noble beloved child, he never had to deal with such chaos, well protected in his father's house. He finally found enough bravery in him to move forward after a time, but kept shaking for the rest of the day.

Even with his impressive build, Aether is still shy and lacks self-confidence. He's perfectly aware of the danger his power represents, always afraid to practice without his father's gentle supervision.

Aether is clearly not an adventurer by choice. He prefers the company of his magic books and hates being on the road without the comfort he's used to.

Though, he's a kind boy and never acts like a spoiled child with his friends. He's ever ready to listen to them, to help whenever he can. (daddy Iceforge raised him well ♡)

His naivety makes him easy to tease! He reacts to every joke, mostly the worst, and his outraged cute face is a source of amusement to his mates.

During his teenagehood, Aether figured out he's aromantic. He indeed never felt the need to begin a close relationship with anyone, perfectly fine as a lonely magic student.

He yet found a best friend in Karlach, who takes care of him like a big sister and loves his awkwardness ♡

philadelphia (1992-2010).

born and raised in philly with an absentee father and a struggling addict of a mother. desperate, broke, and thoroughly addicted, at six, sherri’s mother put sherri in foster care. promises were made to return when wealth and sobriety were secured. they were not kept. 

relatively stable foster care placements moving forward. stayed with a successful yet young single woman til the age of 13, when she was placed back in the system after her foster mother got a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity out of the country and took it. placed with middle aged couple after that til she graduated. they were nice. warm. enough.  

the trauma caked into her home life issues was never really dealt with by sherri. she found an outlet for it instead: theatre. she fell in love with movie musicals at an early age, but her love only grew when she started performing in stage productions. she eventually developed a goal: to be a star on broadway. and that goal became her driving factor.

deal with the trauma of having a problematic mother you loved give you up? nah, work your ass off to get the starring role in your school’s spring musical. deal with the fact that your second mother figure also left you behind instead of adopting you and taking you along with her on her travel opportunity? why do that when she had after school jobs to get done if she wanted to get anywhere after graduation! 

sherri hustled her way through life, focusing on her goal and her future career while everything else fell to the wayside. sure, she had friends and boyfriends and went to parties and the like, but that was always secondary to her main focus. theatre came first.

new york (2010-2022).

by the time graduation came around, sherri had landed a shitty nyc job, booked a shitty apartment in queens, and had bid her foster parents goodbye. sherri threw herself into her work, positive her raw talent, looks, and hustle would get her to her dream in no time.

that didn’t happen.

for the next decade, sherri found herself in a cycle of either being unemployed or only landing ensemble and supporting roles in off-off broadway, off-broadway, and broadway shows. (full run down listed in her timeline & credits!) to make it more insulting, it wasn’t a linear cycle. she could go from a supporting role in a broadway show to an ensemble position in an off-broadway one to being unemployed (on stage) for years! the unconditional attention that thrilled her when she was her hometown’s star and sure to get leads only provided to make her more jealous and desperate when faced with equal competition. a lead role on a proper broadway stage seemed to be more and more out of her grasp.

in 2021, though, she thought she had made a big break. a new revival of rodgers and hammerstein's cinderella was coming to broadway. and sherri - when auditioning for the role of ella - ended up getting cast as ella’s understudy along with cast as a swing for a stepsister. this was the closest she’d been to getting on broadway as a lead, and she nearly burst with excitement at her prospects. granted, getting understudy wasn’t choice, but sherri figured that she’d likely get the lead when the star’s limited contract was up, and she’d probably get to star a few times when the star got sick or needed vocal rest or what have you - she could be patient. she’d waited this long.

she never got promoted. the show only ran for a year, leaving sherri to watch this ONE star have the health of a fucking horse from the sidelines. sure, once a week on wednesdays she took the lead so the lead actress could get vocal rest, and she was put in for the stepsister role frequently enough, but thats shit compared to being a proper lead.

when the show closed, she returned to broadway unemployment (and a waitress lifestyle) once again, brewing in bitterness and also Sexual Angst because of an event that occurred between the lead and sherri at the show’s cast party (see wanted connection: The Cinderella Incident). sherri was on a bitter, biting warpath with everyone she came into contact with for the next month.

meanwhile, she went back to work at her usual waitress gig. when she was not working on stage or screen, she worked as a waitress at a fictional diner called Starlight, a fictionalized knock-off of Ellen’s Stardust, it paid well and she got to sing to audiences all day, so she dealt with the tackiness of it all. 

recent developments and colorado (2023—).

she found work again at the start of this year in a limited run of an off-off broadway play called “out of gas on lovers leap,” in which she played one of the two leads, myst. sherri was at a low. she loved the play and could relate to her character, but hated the step down it was for her in status. the show itself only ran for a month. 

at it while she was at this low that sherri received a peculiar job opportunity from her agent: a starring role in a new television show currently in development called Curtains! It's a children's television show that draws inspiration largely from The Fresh Beat Band, following a group of fictional Broadway hopefuls who teach kids social lessons through song and dance featuring a theater backdrop.

five years earlier, sherri would have turned the role down outright. hell, a year ago she would have. it's a humiliating proposal. but with minimal prospects and her 30th birthday just behind her, sherri ultimately decided to accept the offer, if nothing else than for the networking opportunities it could provide her.

which brings her to coloardo. the show shoots out of colorado at an independent studio. the job pays her well enough that she doesn't need to maintain a secondary job just yet. she lives in the artist alley apartments in the rino district. and every day she has to go to work and sing a child's tune, she wants to stab someone. she's fine.

second choice. sherri has a thing about being second choice. think the attitudes of caroline forbes or (better) lizzie saltzman towards their counterparts of elena gilbert and hope mikaelson, but not as blatant or vocal about it. her insecurities stem from her mother, who massively fucked her over by raising her for six years before giving her away. it was a fatal blow to her image of her self worth and self esteem (”why wasn’t I enough?”), that was only exacerbated by her first foster mother also giving her up, as well as her constant failures at earning roles of rank in her career. this has also led her to develop a need for attention, probably one reason why stardom appealed to her so much.

repression. because of her lackings in her professional and familial life, she has controlled her romantic life with an iron fist, but like, a chill iron fist, because her social and romantic life has always been on the back burner. however, every development in her romantic life has been controlled. when her friends started getting boyfriends in middle school, she picked one up with ease. when they started having sex in high school, so did she. because she did not care about this arena in her life, she had no doubts or fears in navigating it. she found picking up the (to her, limited) nuances of men to be easy, and thus never stressed in this arena. her romantic life was easy. until it wasn’t. during her time in new york, sherri experienced something of a sexual awakening with a woman that scared her shitless at the absolute chaos it would bring down on her life (see: The Cinderella Incident WC). it's not internalized homophobia, but rather a severe fear of a loss of control. the circumstances around her sexual awakening have allowed her to write it off, and her own need for control and simplicity in one area of her life has enabled her to return to the status quo (re: heterosexuality), and not acknowledge this at all.

envy. generally, sherri appears quite confident. in reality, she is! at least, until she sees someone do something better than she does, or earn something she wanted, or have something she doesn’t but thinks she should have. then the envy kicks in. she can feel this envy towards people she considers below her in status or above her, and in both instances these feels are accompanied by acts of pettiness and feeling the need to prove herself. also, if possible, her trying to take said object of envy for herself. consider olivia in the white lotus, trying to steal kai away when she finds out paula is secretly hooking up with him. that’s sherri; she’d do that if given the opportunity. she’s the desperate sort, lowkey, and when coupled with her envy and the sinking sense of her own failures, she’s willing to do just about anything to further her career or prove (to herself?) that she can succeed somewhere.

obsessed artist. at a young age sherri set her sights on greatness through theatre and she has spent her life working towards this goal. it stands above all else. in her craft, she aims for excellence. she’s a workaholic. she’s career-oriented. she has and will continue to put work above all else, and in a way this is her detriment. socially, she has made no real connections because she was always willing to throw it away if an opportunity arises to better her career. additionally, it is relevant to note that comparatively, sherri is successful. compared to others trying to break it on broadway, sherri has made it. it took her a couple years, but once she started booking shows, she’s been booked and busy (sans two one year gaps of nothing, rip). she’s been on the broadway stage as a member of the principal cast, she’s starred and performed on a number of different stages of different rank. she has played opposite of big names, is mutuals with them on social media - even now, she’s set to lead a new children's television show. other people in her position would be happy with the success they’ve had. but to sherri, it’s all a failure. her goal is to star in a broadway musical as the lead, and until that happens, all her other work is moot.

Gnowee was born in the Lower City of Baldur's Gate, in a house ruled by bitterness and alcohol. Her irresponsible parents never wanted to procreate, and were viciously determined to remind her whenever possible.

When she entered teenagehood, Gnowee realized how toxic they were and promised to herself she'd find a way out of the city, far far away from them. Too young at this time, she yet began to learn a lot on Faerûn, mainly thanks to her own book collection. She had no plan, but the will to build one!

One day, as she was reading a religious tome on the many gods worshipped through the realms, she heard a male voice whispering : « Join me in the light, dear one. » Afraid at first, Gnowee's heart suddenly raced... The page she had before her eyes was about Lathander, Bringer of the Dawn. That was the key to the freedom she desperately searched for! No more doubts, no more fear. She had already accepted His holy call and so left Baldur's Gate without any last word for her parents.

～ ✧ 𝓃𝑜𝓋𝒾𝒸𝑒 𝒿𝑜𝓊𝓇𝓃𝑒𝓎 ⤵︎

As a tiefling, Gnowee first struggled to find her place in Lathander's church. She traveled a lot and succeeded to reach Waterdeep, the City of Splendors, where she joined a huge temple dedicated to her protector, named the Spires of the Morning (❦). There, despite the mistrust of the other disciples, she learned to communicate with Lathander and to increase her faith, her power. In time, the place became her real home.

It took Gnowee years to understand the purpose of her god's call. After all, she was nothing in the Lower City, just an unwanted child and kind of monstrosity to many! « You prayed so much to see the light… I listened. » And by saying that, the Morninglord offered her precious gifts : eyes capable of contemplating dawn without burning, and a small part of His holy glow on her horns.

Her name comes from the Wotjobaluk mythology : Gnowee is indeed the female personification of the sun! (not sure if that's really accurate, but to me it's pronounced /‘gnəʊwi:/ …)

Gnowee absolutely loves animals! During a mission in Waterdeep, she even found an adorable orange cat that she adopted and named Wylan ♡

Gnowee always identified herself as an asexual cis woman. She yet figured out she's not aromantic when she met Wyll Ravengard...

She's more comfortable when she's alone, even if the other clerics are family.

Because of her parents, she's strict about alcohol : she literally hates it, plus the celebrations that imply it.

She's particularly suspicious toward strangers (not only). However, she's still a kind soul that honors Lathander by helping others!

yn tilted her head in thought, tapping her fingers against her chin as if solving a world shattering puzzle. “okay, definitely lara,” she began confidently, nodding as if solidifying her decision. “then daniela... megan... lexie…” she paused, a sheepish laugh escaping her lips. “wait, am I just naming all the powerhouses right now?” (the audacity bffr yn.)

“nayoung, for sure… uh…” she trailed off, her brow furrowing before she suddenly snapped her fingers, her face lighting up. “oh! and manon. my girl, obviously.”

sophia and yn are standing side by side during practice, reviewing choreography. Sophia’s expression is calm but clearly exasperated. “yn, you’re late on the turn every time,” she says, her voice cutting but controlled.

yn nodded her head and turned around to get back in position before muttering “maybe you’re just early every time,” as quietly as possible but camera still picked up on it.

everyone was warming up when sophia walked in first, looking frazzled. moments later, yn strolled in casually, earning a sharp glare from Sophia.

“you’re late,” sophia pointed out.

“so are you,” yn countered, raising an eyebrow.

the camera zooms in as the members are stretching and warming up for their upcoming choreography session.

in the background, yn and sophia are standing close by, both practicing their formations.

yn reaches up to adjust her hair, and in that moment, her hand brushes against sophia’s. at first, sophia pulls back sharply, her gaze flicking towards yn with a flicker of surprise. but yn doesn’t make a big deal of it, instead casually continuing to adjust her position.

sophia hesitates for a moment, then subtly places her hand back on yn’s lower back to guide her into position.

the clip cuts to backstage where the members are all celebrating their first successful performance. Sophia walks past the members of the group, clearly scanning the area.

“has anyone seen yn?” she asks, her tone just a little softer than usual.

lara and daniela exchange a glance before lara shrugs. “she was just with megan, I think. why?”

sophia shrugs before she walks off in the direction they pointed. the camera follows her for a moment, and as she turns the corner, she finds yn sitting quietly, already taking off her stage makeup.

“hey,” Sophia says, her voice softer now. yn looks up, surprised but not annoyed.

“you okay?” Sophia asks again, sitting down beside her.

yn nods slowly, her eyes meeting sophia’s “yeah I’m just tired.” she mumbled before looking at the camera, “I can’t wait to nap in the car.” she says to it.

sophia watches her for a moment, “okay well, hurry up so you can sleep.”

the camera stilled on katseye as the girls stood together at a festival, watching the performance unfolding in front of them. the energy was electric, but yn’s attention shifted slightly to sophia, who was sitting beside her, intently watching the stage.

yn leaned in, her lips dangerously close to sophia ear as she whispered something. sophia barely registered at first, distracted by the booming music around them. she turned her head slightly, her face now directly in line with yn’s, and was startled at how close yn’s face had gotten.

sophia flinched back, her cheeks instantly flushing, and covered her face with her hand, the camera couldn’t pick up on what sophia was saying but they could tell she definitely said something along the lines of “what the hell, yn?” 

yn, laughing softly, leaned her head onto sophia’s shoulder, her cheek brushing against it as she continued to chuckle at the flustered girl beside her.
