5 Quirky facts about Iñaki
Iñaki loves learning languages! Because of this she knows a bit of the native languages such as Kaqchikel and Quechua due to her family ethnic roots. They also tend to be useful to rely on for spell casting in dueling - it keeps her opponents guessing, especially in Europe since they almost always haven't heard those spells before.
Because of her introduction to magical Mayan glyphs runes while visiting the ruins when she was young with her family, Iñaki has a HUGE love for studying Runes. Especially since runes are used to help magically enhance nomaj tech that can be used in the magical world. She would love to figure out to magically enhance nomaj tech one day herself to save money, but for now, she enjoys studying the seeing the runes scattered around Scotland. Ancient Runes class is her favorite subject for obvious reasons.
Will refuse to say the world muggle. She also fights against picking up British Slang but she ends up saying them here and there. Instead of a swear jar, Sebastian and Ominis have a "British-ism" jar they put coins in every time she uses a British slang term as they find it entertaining. Iñaki is aware they will give that Brit jar as an award to her for slowly integrating to British culture at the end of each semester. She gets rather upset when she meets up with an old friend from the States who's visiting when they mention her accent sounds a bit more Scottish (due to her time studying at Hogwarts in Scotland) when she speaks.
She likes to watercolor. She'll have her portable watercolor paints, brush and book in her satchel and will take a moment to watercolor if something tickles her fancy. If they are postcards canvas, she'll gift them to friends.
Aberdeen is the closest nomaj city to Hogwarts. Iñaki WILL FLY the 2 hours it takes to get there and back when she feels homesick and wants to pretend to just be a tourist or go to a nomaj place when she can't visit her family in London. When Sebastian and Ominis hear about how far she is willing to travel to Aberdeen they are agast - like the saying goes, "Americans think 100 years is a long time, Europrans think 100 miles is a long way". They don't understand how Iñaki can fly for that long to travel. Iñaki doesn't get how a flying close to 2 hours in a day is unenjoyable for a road trip.

Owl House Theory on Luz’s mysterious doppelgänger: Eda did it
As any devoted fan of the Owl House may know from the most recent episode, there is a mysterious Luz copy living in her home by her mother’s side. It is highly likely that this is the same “Luz” that had been sending Camila Noceda those hand-written letters from Camp since before the events of Enchanting Grom Fright. The question remains, however, who sent the clone?
A cursory scroll through comment sections on YouTube reveal a consensus involving Emperor Belos, but there are two big holes in that theory. One: If he had the means to send literally anything to the human world on a whim, why would he need Eda’s portal? Two: He doesn’t know Luz well enough to copy her many “isms” enough to fool her mother. Granted, his knowledge of anything human-world-related is unknown at this point, but the fact that he needed Eda’s portal proves that he couldn’t have sent the clone, much less since before Grom Night. Eda, however, did have the portal, and quite direct access to Luz since day one of her journey in the Boiling Isles. In fact, she has access to Luz when she is sleeping, too.
Why mention sleep? Because Eda knows a spell to literally explore a person’s mind, and what goes on inside of it, as demonstrated in Understanding Willow. Eda could have easily used that same spell to explore Luz’s brain and, perhaps, make photocopies of all of Luz’s memories, ending before she came to the Boiling Isles. Or just use memory tweezers to extract memories, copy them, and put the originals back in, all without waking Luz. It isn’t established to be impossible, yet.
As for the Doppelgänger’s physical form? What if Eda crafted an abomination? She doesn’t belong to a coven, so she might know how to do it, but otherwise chooses not to. The appearance? An illusion spell. How does it survive outside the BI? It was demonstrated briefly that magic cast directly from a witch can still operate in the real world, while glyph magic just automatically fizzles out. If implanted with Luz’s memories (save for any about the Isles), it could’ve easily mimicked her speech and mannerisms, and faked eating to blend in.
So, it is highly possible that Eda was up all night after the events of Episode 1 crafting the clone for Luz to take her place in the real world to cover her tracks after she chose to stay in the Isles, which would explain why she seemed to forget who Luz was in the beginning of ep 2, masked by the fact that at the time, the audience was still getting to know Eda and what she was capable of. After all, she isn’t a morning person by default, and she may have forgotten which Luz she sent back to the real world.
Why would Eda go through all of the trouble for a runaway she just met? Maybe Eda felt a kinship with Luz and didn’t want to admit it to herself? And perhaps she didn’t want another rambunctious dreamer to lose contact with her family? Or she didn’t want the girl to get in trouble for something they both agreed would’ve been temporary if the portal hadn’t been destroyed?
Regardless, Eda was the only witch with immediate access to Luz and the Human World at the same time, it stands to reason that, barring the Camp itself being able to craft a believable replacement on a whim, Eda sent he clone with the intention of switching the two back when it was time for Luz to return home, but after the portal was destroyed, the clone overstayed her purpose and now may just be taking Luz’s place. Who knows how much that clone has evolved since it went to earth?
Anyway, that’s my theory. Is it solid as stone? Or does t have holes?

Whitley does some Vergil-isms
*Weiss and Winter sparring against Whitley, putting him on the ropes*
Winter: Think you can beat us?
Weiss: Not in a million years.
*Whitley sheathes his katana, then makes a Glyph the size of him appear to his side, from it steps another him made from ice, covered in blue markings.
Whitley, smirking: Save that until you win, if you can...
*Qrow is out hunting, Whitley tagging along to get a better feel at being a Hunter. They were ambushed by a pack of Beowolves later into the hunt*
Qrow: You told you wanted to get stronger right? What was that you said earlier to me before we left...
Whitley, taking a deep breath: Might controls everything. And without strength you cannot protect anything...*summons ten swords that begin to circle him*...let alone yourself.
*Whitley’s out training with Yang, now they’ve taken a break, with Yang floating thanks to her Summer Maiden powers. Whitley, a little jealous, tries to one up her*
Yang: Aren’t you showing off just a tad much?
Whitley, on a Glyph in the air, sword planted firmly on said platform: That is put the pitiful cries of those without the Schnee Family Semblance.
Yang: =.=

The next two RWBabies from the admins! Kai-La and Ahisne are future love interests.
The current three kids are open for questions about everything and anything, so feel free to leave them. There are more to come, so be free to ask about them too.
(Their bios are under the cut, but they’re really long so don’t read them if you’re not down for it:)
Ahisne Nikos (Based on Odysseus)
Name Inspiration: ‘Ahi’ means fire in Hawaiian, ‘sne’ means snow in Danish
Nickname(s): ‘Ahis’ by Pyrrha, ‘Princess’ and ‘Sweetheart’ by Weiss, ‘Snowflake’ by Kai-La
Iolite-isms: Upper Class, Ice Shard, Snow, Flame Hair, Hothead, Smug Bitch, Heartbreaker
Languages: Atlesian, Valean, Middle Mistrali, Mantlan
Gender: Female
Species: Human
Aura Colour: Light Red
Schools and Team: Eiskappe Academy (combat school), Atlas Academy (Academy)/Member of Team HALA (Halo)
Bestie Better Than The Restie: Hao Wahine
Homeplace: Atlas
Orientation: Homosexual Biromantic
Semblance: Magnetic Glyphs, a semblance that allows Ahisne to create glyphs similar to that of Weiss’ that act as positively or negatively charged magnets. She needs to wear specially constructed shoes with metal soles – courtesy of Mercury – to use her semblance to her aid. Creating the glyphs is easy, but it is a slightly painful process as whenever she uses the shoes to stick to a wall the glyph is placed on or to propel herself off of a glyph, the charge will shock her a bit, but this is only a minor drawback to a very powerful semblance.
Weapon: Magnesurf, a Dao sword with a detachable hilt. While deatched from the hilt, the blade can be used solo as a small dagger or even a spear at times. The hilt is able to expand in order to act like a shield of sorts that is constructed of the same metal as her shoe soles, meaning that if she wishes to, she can move a glyph along a surface and use the hilt-shield as a snowboard.
Voiced by: Monica Rial
Trivia:
Ahisne works on-and-off shifts at a bakery/cafe Weiss and Pyrrha have owned ever since their daughter was born and they started only doing part-time Huntress work. It is cutely named ‘Niko Nikos Treats’.
She and her cousin Abend are extremely close, visiting each other as often as possible in either Mantle or Atlas. It helps that they’re the samge age, though that more often than not comes down to a lot more arguments over whether they can boss each other around.
Before going to Atlas Academy, her only non-family/non-military friend was Hao Wahine, a girl she met in her ballet classes as a kid.
Along with ballet, Ahisne has a proficency for singing just like her mother. Sometimes she will lend her voice to charity concerts or recitals, but in her teenage years she begins to associate more with Carolina Robin and Kade Chyrsolite. They convince her to sing on Carolina Robin’s parents’ stage in Atlas’ “party district”.
She considers the Schnee Dust Company to not be any of her business. Abend is the next successor after Whitley, and Ahisne is much more focused on being a Huntress anyway.
She adores white chocolate, but her favourite food is red velvet cake (preferably with pink, blue, and white marshmallows in particular).
Ahisne, thanks to Weiss, Winter, and Whitley, has not been influenced by her Grandfather’s harmful influence. She knows of his imprisonment when her mothers were teenagers and she has seen him on the news once or twice, but aside from that she knows little to nothing of Jacques.
She takes great pride in her hair’s natural gradient of white and red.
Kai-La Wukong (Based on The Journey to the West)
Name Inspiration: ‘Kai’ means sea in Hawaiian, ‘La’ means sun in Hawaiian
Nickname(s): ‘Lala’ by Amba, ‘Kai’ by anyone and everyone
Iolite-isms: Seamonkey, Tail-Head, Blueberry Twist, Beached
Languages: Vacuan, North Mistrali, Middle Mistrali, South Mistrali, very limited Valean, extremely limited Atlesian
Gender: Female
Species: Monkey Faunus
Aura Colour: Scarlet
Schools and Team: Oscuro Academy (combat school), Shade Academy (Academy)/Leader of Team WTHD (Watershed)
Bestie Better Than The Restie: Iolite Black, Cinnabarus Taurus-Torchwick
Homeplace: Vacuo
Orientation: Homosexual Homoromantic
Semblance: Bubble Bomb, a semblance that creates bubbles of varying sizes from Kai-La’s skin. These bubbles can both absorb sunlight and reflect it, the latter blinding her opponent. Once the bubbles absorb enough sunlight, they burst and explode, which not only causes some damage to the opponent but also warps Kai-La a foot away from the fight to buy herself some time. Kai-La sometimes wears goggles stolen from her Dad to stop herself from going blind. An excessive production of the bubbles severely drains her Aura, though, so she has to keep a count of how many she’s produced at a time.
Weapon: Di Qing, a staff that is capable of ejecting out at the sides to form the head a trident at the end. She has no need for a firing mechanism, so if need be for long-ranged, she launches the trident-spear away from her in order to pin her opponent to a tree and hold them there.
Voiced by: Kate Higgins
Trivia:
Kai-La’s tail, like Sun’s, is prehensile, so she uses it more often than not like a third hand. Grabbing things, holding her weapon, displaying her emotions more than she’d like -- especially around pretty girls. The Ayana-David triplets are most vunerable to her tail wrapping itself around their arms or hands unconsciously.
She did not listen while her Oscuro classes taught Valean, so she can’t speak a word until her second year when she meets Candy and Qrow.
Kai-La, being the child of Sun and Neptune, is both a natural leader and a hopeless renegade of a teammate. She’s been able to easily formulate solutions to any problem, but she isn’t wise in the slighest if you ask her teammates, who more often than not get dragged into helping her enact these easy solutions.
Food isn’t something she’s picky over, but if she had to pick, her favourite would be Atlas-imported ice-cream, specifically bubblegum flavour.
Kai-La can and will handle her liquor well.
She takes great pleasure in watching old Vytal Festival footage, especially of her parents, uncles, and the legendary Team STRQ. Someday, she hopes to be able to slice a Grimm in half with one fell swoop.
Video games are her forte. Games like Animal Crossing and Pokemon mostly, but that’s because she likes the casual side to them.

3rd April 2017 - Glyph Construction
Today was my last day at UCA before Easter break, so I wanted to get quite a few things wrapped up with Jake and Simon before the half-term starts, as I’ll be without their assistance for just under 3 weeks. Luckily, I had a super-productive and exciting day, and got everything prepared to be worked on over the half-term.
I got into UCA quite early today, so before everyone else arrived and the day started, I thought I’d do a little bit of research on El Lissitzky and Constructivism. After a few web searches, and a search on the UCA library website, I found a book in the Rochester library by El Lissitzky; titled “The ISMs of Art”, the book is a look at the Avant-garde movements of the 1920s, from the view of El Lissitzky himself. After heading up to the library and flicking through the book, I found a small paragraph with El Lissitzky’s view on Constructivism, which I noted down in my sketchbook.
Once the day had officially begun, I started working on digitising my large-scale sketches. Before I imported any sketches, I created a base glyph set for my font, which will act as a guideline for what letters or numbers or punctuation I need to create for my font; this base glyph set is based off of the glyph set I found in Type-One from another font, and can be found below.
Once I had made this base glyph set, I could begin creating the letterforms for it. I started off with the Cap H, importing the sketch, creating guidelines, and drawing the letter based off of the placement of the guides. For all of the letters I’ve created so far, I’ve tried to keep the scale, proportion and positioning as true to the sketches as possible; but I have had to adjust some of these aspects of the letters, to make them easier to work with further down the line. Below is my digitised Cap H.
I then moved on to the Cap O, importing the sketch, creating guidelines and building the letter from the guides. Whilst building this letter, I realised that letters with curved lines will need some adjustment, to make sure that the curves transition into straight lines as smoothly as possible.
Next up was the Cap V, which was relatively simple to construct.
Once I had the Cap letters drawn, I decided to mess about a bit with the kerning, to try and get a feel for what general area the kern values will be in for each letter. For now, I’ve decided to settle with 25 ems of kern on both sides of each letter, just to set them apart a bit for when I do actually come to the kerning stage. In the above and below screenshot, the Cap V has a leftside kern of 5 ems, this should be ignored, as that value has since been changed to 25 ems.
Next was the lower-case letters, the n, o, and d. These letters were a bit more difficult to construct due to their more complex shapes, but it wasn’t anything too troubling. I still need to adjust the heights of the lower-case letters so they match up optically, but at this point it’s not that urgent of a problem.
Using the Cap V and H, I created a Cap A by recycling the vertical strokes from the V and the slanted crossbar of the H.
Below is an image of all of the letters I created so far today, along with the kern values and letter widths. As you can see, there is a lot of room for improvement at this stage, but with time, these letters will be perfect.
Over the course of the day, Jake and Simon had been running tutorials to check up on student’s work and give them feedback. Once I had finished these seven letters, it was time for my tutorial with Simon. In the tutorial we quickly ran through how my project was going, what I was currently working on, and how I intended to carry on with my project. Simon praised my work, which lifted a bit of weight off my shoulders. He said that everything was looking really good, and that I should just keep working hard and I’ll end up with a very solid project. He did point out a few things I could do to take it further though. He said I should do more visual research, dedicating a separate page of my blog to posting various typographic pieces, which I can comment and reflect on. I thought this was a pretty good idea, and I’ll be implementing it into my blog and workflow tomorrow. He also said I should start thinking about putting my work into context, which I have been thinking about, I just haven’t documented it. I explained to him about my plans for the show at this point, and how I want to create a series of posters or other printed materials using my font, which will show it’s effectiveness in practice. For this, he suggested researching typographic posters for inspiration. Simon then told me about Paul Felton, a graphic designer from Birmingham who redesigned EFFP’s Identity. The identity rebrand is a great resource for typographic inspiration, and as such, I’ve added it to my bibliography for future reference. Simon’s last comment was that I need to comment on why my project is moving in the direction it’s moving in. I explained that my project has sort-of been go with the flow so far, but that subconsciously I’ve been heavily influenced by Modernist typography and design. He said that I need to articulate this in a way that explains the direction of my project. I agree, without an explanation it’s a bit confusing to understand why my font has the aesthetic that it has. Below is my feedback sheet from my tutorial with Simon.
Before I headed home, I wrote a few notes on the changes I’d made to the font today. I’ve decided to use the Notes section of Font Info in Glyphs as a sort of change-log, where I can document the changes I make to the font each day. This will help me keep track of what I’ve done, as well as providing information for me to post to my blog. I’ll also be keeping a small to-do list in the Notes section.
