molly: Alright, listen up you little shits. molly: Not you Harry. You’re an angel and we’re thrilled you’re here.

tonks: Hey guys, I found a spider. Cool little lad. Thanks for eating the mosquitos. tonks: Oh no, where did it go? mad-eye, standing on a chair: TONKS WHAT THE FUCK?!
-
remus: Snape has only scowled at me three times this week. Our acquaintanceship is really improving.

tonks: What happened to your nose? mad-eye: I used it to break someone's fist.

-
molly: Where are you going? fred and george: To either get ice cream or commit a felony. We'll decide on the way.

No okay but like the way I was watching part of the first movie (because it was playing at my workplace for the teens) and when Minerva appears on screen she is legit scary. Mind you, I know Miss Ma’am is a BADDIE but she is also quite intimidating, scary and sometimes kinda mean actually???
And it genuinely surprises me that the parallels in terms of personalities between Minerva and Severus is not as broadly talked or portrayed as (at least I) think it should be.
Some people seriously haven't realised Minerva McGonagall is essentially the same as Severus Snape and it shows
#both baddies#both READY to HELLA INTIMIDATE#both without qualms to say WHATEVER#and both ready to fight to the end for their causes#which is so fucking sad considering the last interaction they fucking had#that scene will forever haunt me#brb looking for fics where Severus and Minerva talk and discuss the Coward Scene#UGH#k bye i just broke my own hearttt#my prince#my queen#severus snape#minerva mcgonagall#they are besties#and if not they are at least platonic soulmates whether they admit it or not

Longbottoms boggart wasn't Snape.
I mean you'd think this would be obvious enough - but people who hate Snape bring it up as their sort of trump card. "He was so bad he was a 13yr olds biggest fear!" No. He wasn't. Boggarts don't quite work like that. Boggarts are not themselves your worst fear - they make you FEEL your worst fear. Hermione isn't actually scared of McGonagall. (I'm sure alot of first years are scared of her though I mean she is strict and stern and a little scary at first.) Did she have some irrational fear of suddenly failing all her classes? Yeah, maybe a little bit - but it is BECAUSE she is scared of not being good enough. From the first book we see her struggling to fit in with her peers. She is muggleborn, she learned she was a witch so suddenly that she poured herself into being the most perfect witch she could.
Professor McGonagall, a stern and strict witch she respects, telling her she isn't good enough despite all of her best efforts makes her FEEL her worst fear. It has nothing to do with Minerva personally - honestly it could probably be replaced with Dumbledore or someone... its just she has far more interaction with Minerva.
SO - Longbottom and Snape: How do I know that Snape isn't his absolute worst fear? Because he still attends Potions every fucking week!!! Do you think RON could attend Charms if it was run by a spider?!? He can pass Snape in the hall, he can sit in the same room as Snape, he can even be teased and bullied by Snape. His parents were tortured to insanity by Death Eaters. Severus Snape is NOT his worst fear, that's stupid. Snape just makes him FEEL his worst fear - like McGonagall makes Hermione feel hers. SO what is Neville worst fear? I think the clue comes with him quickly saying that he also wouldn't want the Boggart to turn into his grandma. Inadequacy. Neville has never been good enough. He has low self worth. The tiniest bits of praise overwhelm him. He never wins any house points and losing some devastates him. He got his magic late, his family kept trying to tease it out of him, thought he was maybe a squib. He has a proud legacy to uphold and he is terrified he cannot. He is the worst potions student Snape has ever had.
Snape makes Neville feel inadequate. His grandmother makes him feel inadequate. But mix them together... and suddenly these two very scary people that seem to have such control over his life... look a little ridiculous.
DO you think Lupin is LITERALLY scared of the moon...? Or does the moon make him feel powerless and dangerous and inhumane? DO you think Harry is LITERALLY scared of Dementors...? Or is he scared of how powerless he is against the horrible way they make him feel - the trauma they bring up from the deep recesses of his mind?
Snape was not so horrific, so awful, so scary, so mean - that he as a man became Nevile's worst fear. He, like his grandma, makes him feel inadequate.
#neville longbottom#severus snape#is say headcanon but no this is just canon#people need better media literacy#heres a headcanon though: Lupin actually is a little sacred of the moon. he blocks the sight of it with his hand if he goes out at night.#hp#hermione granger#remus lupin#harry potter

an old friend, a new start {remus lupin}
plot: Fourteen years after graduating Hogwarts, you're offered a job to be the new Muggle Music Professor. Funnily enough, your old friend, Remus Lupin, is also offered a new job at Hogwarts that year.
character: remus lupin x female reader
note: this has potential to be multiple parts, if anyone's interested let me know cause i'd like to write more of it xx
You took a deep breath as you stepped out of the carriage to look up at the large, looming castle in front of you. Hogwarts. The castle really hadn't changed at all. It was still strikingly beautiful and so intricately built. Dumbledore took a lot of care to maintain Hogwarts and its grounds and it showed. You lifted your trunk off of the ground and made your way through the grounds to the Great Hall.
The last time you were here was fourteen years ago, the day you graduated. How times had changed. When you were last here, you and your friends were carefree and wild, excited to see what life had in store for you. When there had once been six of you, now only half survived. You hadn't spoken to the other surviving members of the Marauders in years, well Sirius had been sent to Azkaban for the murder of Peter Pettigrew (and you believed it was also for betraying James and Lily too. You and Remus fell out of contact a year or two after Peter's supposed death and Sirius's imprisonment. Life got in the way and it was too hard. There were too many memories and it was too painful so the two of you lost contact.
You often wondered about Remus. He had been your closest friend once upon a time and at one point, you had been head over heels for him but he never knew that. You would wonder about his life, how he was dealing with his condition, if he ever settled down...
Little did you know you'd be finding out sooner rather than later.
Professor McGonagall welcomed you as you walked into the Great Hall, "Ah, (y/n), dear, how lovely to see you after all these years." She greeted with a warm smile. She remained the same, a few more wrinkles around her warm eyes but she was the same, "Or should I say Professor." She had a twinkle in her eye, "I always did like seeing our students come back to be Professors."
You smiled, "Thank you, Professor," you said gratefully, glad that your first interaction was with a friendly familiar face.
"Oh," she said with a sweep of her hand, "call me Minerva... How does it feel to be back?"
"It feels good to be back actually... A little strange and bittersweet." You told her, looking around, "Their memories haunt me every single day but it's more intense here." Minerva looked around the Great Hall, agreeing, "I remember my first day getting sorted into Gryffindor and sitting beside Lily... She was my first friend here before I met the rest."
Her smile was wide and her eyes were a dazzling bright green colour, clashing yet complimenting her orange hair perfectly, "Here," she said, patting the space on the bench beside her, "sit with me, will you?" You gladly sat beside her as you introduced yourselves to the other, "It's all so exciting isn't it? Overwhelming but it's exciting to be somewhere we all belong."
You shook yourself out of the memory and apologised to Minerva but she tutted and gave you a warm smile, "Don't apologise, dear. Keep those happy memories of them alive, all of them." Even Sirius. Even though he betrayed the Potters' ending up getting them and Peter killed, "Speaking of the past, I do have some potentially upsetting news to tell you. Sirius Black escaped from Azkaban recently," you nodded, you'd read all about it. You'd seen his face plastered everywhere, crazed and wild, "James and Lily's son, Harry, he's a third year at Hogwarts... As you know Sirius is the godfather of Harry Potter and we fear that Sirius may try and come to kill the last surviving member of the Potter family."
You nodded as she explained the precautions Hogwarts was taking, "Dementors from Azkaban will be guarding Hogwarts. My honest advice is to stay out of their way, the scary buggers." You laughed slightly, "Just... Be on your highest guard. I've warned Remus too. You two know Sirius better than anyone."
You frowned, "Remus?" You asked, "He's here?"
Minerva looked at you puzzled, "Yes. Sorry, dear, forgive me, I just assumed the two of you would still be in contact."
"No... We haven't seen each other for about a decade actually. It was too painful. Too many painful memories."
Minerva nodded, "Well I hope that him being here and with Sirius on the loose, it may rekindle your friendship once again. The two of you were always the best of friends." You were. You and Remus did everything together, "I don't usually like to gossip on students but seeing as you graduated fourteen years ago, I always did think the two of you would be good together." She smiled, a twinkle in her eye, as you blushed furiously, "Anyway, he's our new Defence Against the Dark Arts teacher. Do you want me to show you where your classroom is?"
"Still fifth floor, right?" You asked her to which she nodded, "I think I should be able to find it myself but thank you, Minerva." It would take a while to get used to calling her that, "Once I'm settled, we should catch up some more." Minerva smiled and agreed and then you walked away.
"Professor Lupin's classroom is on the third floor," she called after you. You didn't have to turn around to know that she would be smirking.
Hogwarts was huge with lots of winding staircases that ended up going to different places but it was like muscle memory. Your legs just knew which route to take. Instead of taking the quickest route to your new classroom, you took a bit of a scenic tour, just wanting to soak up everything old and everything new.
The silliest of memories resurfaced as you walked around.
"Look, Moony!" James grinned as Remus approached the two of you, "Padfoot's going to jump down this staircase. He believes he can do it without hurting himself."
Remus looked to you and you just shrugged, "I tried to stop him but it's Sirius, Rem. We'll never be able to control him." (It ended with Sirius spending a night in the hospital).
You turned a corner, finding yourself in front of a painting that you remembered.
You'd just happened across her standing looking at the painting. It was only your second day so you stopped to see if she was okay. "It's crazy," a first year Lily Evans said with a wide smile, "I'm Muggleborn so this is still all quite new to me but it still amazes me that paintings move."
"My dad's a Muggle," you said to Lily, "I kind of had the best of both worlds. I knew about magic but also knew and grew up with a lot of Muggle stuff like Muggle music, I love Muggle music."
"Oh my goodness," Lily grinned, "me too! Who's your favourite?"
"I love The Beatles-"
"No way!" Her smile was contagious, bright and so happy, "Oh (y/n), we're going to be such good friends."
Then you went through a rarely used shortcut through a painting and through a narrow staircase.
Remus coughed, "I suspect this is seldom used given how dusty it is... How did you find out about this secret passageway?"
You laughed, "Rem, I quite genuinely fell through the painting and landed on the stairs. I went up them and they got me to the fourth floor much quicker! Trust the process. Maybe next time we should bring a brush and do a bit of housekeeping?"
After leaving the passageway you wiped your robes down, they had gathered a lot of dust. You wondered whether or not all the other secret passageways and secret rooms you had once hidden in were still accessible and hidden. You'd need to investigate soon. You headed up a spiral staircase and then after a short walk through a hallway, you were standing in front of a classroom which said in large golden painted letters: MUGGLE MUSIC. You smiled and slowly pushed the door open.
"Oh it's brilliant," you said to yourself, clapping with glee after putting your trunk down. It was quite run down, maybe not loved as well as it should've been but getting it back up and running shouldn't be too much of a challenge. You wandered around the classroom, a fresh lick of paint on the walls, some newer instruments and maybe some plants and the classroom would look a lot better. The instruments you had were in relatively good condition but luckily for you, you had plenty of instruments in much better condition in your trunk.
"I learned a new charm!" Sirius grinned, "Check this out." He swung his bag off of his shoulder and began pulling out various textbooks and things alike.
Peter glanced at you, "What's the charm?" He asked sheepishly, "So far you've just made a mess."
Sirius rolled his eyes, "Use your head, Wormtail! Look at the size of my bag and look at the amount of books I just pulled out! That's not all-" he stopped talking and then pulled out, "made sure to pack my handy dandy hat stand."
"You stole a bloody hat stand?!" Remus hissed but even he couldn't hide the smile from his face, "Where's it from?"
Sirius winked, "Just borrowing it, Moony... from Slughorn's office. Anyway... who wants to learn the charm?"
That charm was your second favourite thing you learned at Hogwarts, the first was the charm that Lily taught you afterwards to keep your luggage or bag or whatever you were carrying light, never weighing more than a pound. You lay your trunk on one of the tables, opening it taking out the various instruments you'd carefully packed away. You put them in the instruments cupboard, you'd sort it another day, but just now you wanted to go to your room.
Your office was in the room adjacent to the classroom and then in the room attached to that was your living area. A small bedroom complete with a double bed, a wardrobe, a chest of drawers and then attached was a small kitchen and a bathroom. Your living space was small but more than enough. Your office was a desk, a chair and a few potted plants. There was a bookshelf with various books, a couch and a couple of tables and empty units. You would put your personal record player in here and also have one in the classroom but you would unpack your personal belongings soon. You sat on the bed as you looked around. You could hardly believe that this was your life now, that you were here once again... not only could you not believe that you were here again but so was Remus.
Remus.
You sat upright. He was already here, you knew he'd be in his classroom unpacking and getting ready for the term ahead. A bubble of nervousness suddenly appeared in your stomach as you stood and looked in the mirror that was on the wall. You looked tired but that was to be expected after a five hour journey. You smoothed out your hair and robes before leaving your classroom.
Defence Against the Dark Arts was on the third floor, you remembered exactly what it had once looked like. It was one of your favourite classes when you were a student, it was just fun learning new things and getting to practice magic.
It was then that you noticed someone familiar walking towards you. Inwardly you groaned but you plastered a smile on your face, "Fancy meeting you here, Severus."
Snape sneered at you, "(y/n)... How delightful." He had aged horribly. The same greasy hair, the same large pointed nose, the same dark beady eyes and the same scowl. It seemed he permanently scowled judging by the wrinkles on his forehead. In school, Snape was awful. He was rude, judgemental, bigoted and a bully. And yes, you would then agree that James and Sirius bullied him too but Severus had called his old best friend, Lily Evans, a mudblood and then acted as though he hated her whilst still pining over her. You just didn't like him and Snape, well, Snape didn't like anybody, "I just ran into the werewolf. Already asking me to concoct potions for his... time of the month." Always a cheap shot to make a joke about Remus's time of the month. It was Sirius's favourite thing to do once upon a time.
You nodded, "That's good of you to do that for him. I'm sure he appreciates it."
Snape looked at you displeased, "Obviously."
"Okay, great seeing you, Sev," you said quickly, needing away from him, "let's catch up soon?"
Snape scoffed, "No thank you."
"Ah," you said, patting his shoulder as you moved past him, "you've not changed at all, Sev. Always a pleasure!" Snape looked pissed off as you scampered past him but let's face it, he always looked pissed. You shuddered as you walked away. Fourteen years later and he still creeped you out.
You could hear chatter approaching and you realised that it was the students returning from their summer holidays, coming back to school. You straightened your robes one final time as you walked down the staircase to meet handfuls of older students who were walking up the stairs. You greeted them happily and most of them gave you at least a smile back. As you continued down the steps you saw-
"James?"
Your heart was in your throat, beating hard, as your stomach dropped. You stopped in the middle of the staircase as a young boy, third or fourth year, walked towards you. At the mention of his father's name, his head snapped to you. It was like looking through a window into the past. His hair was just as dark and just as messy. His grin was just as cheeky. He wore the same full moon glasses but his eyes... those were Lily Evans's eyes. You caught a glimpse of the lightening bolt scar on his forehead.
"Sorry, Harry, right?" You asked forcing yourself to smile, "I'm sorry, you just look so much like your father but-"
"I have my mother's eyes," Harry said with a nod and a smile, "Did you know them Professor...?"
"Oh (y/n). (y/n) (y/l/n). I'm the new Muggle Music Professor," you introduced yourself to him and his two, what you assumed to be, friends, "I was really good friends with your mother and father actually."
Harry's eyes lit up. All that poor boy wanted was to know about his parents, "You were? Professor do you think you could tell me about them?"
You stepped aside to let some other students pass, "Of course. Any time at all. My class is on the fifth floor, feel free to drop by whenever. How about we get settled in today and later this week you could come by? Bring your friends too if you wish," you gave a polite smile to Ron and Hermione, "Professor Lupin was also good friends with your parents, that's where I'm off to just now. To say hello to an old friend." Old friends and new starts.
The girl stuck out her hand which you shook gladly, "Hermione. Hermione Granger and this is Ronald Weasley."
The red haired boy rolled his eyes, "No one calls me Ronald, it's Ron, Hermione."
"All of us are taking Muggle Music actually so we'll be in your class." Hermione told you ignoring Ron.
"Yeah after you forced us to take your boring class-" Ron stopped realising that he was insulting your subject to your face, "I'm sorry, I'm sure it's not boring-" His cheeks turned bright pink, as did the tips of his ears.
You laughed, "That's alright. I assume it probably was boring but that'll change now that I'm here, I assure you, Ron. Anyway, I best let you three go to your Common Room and settle in. Come see me whenever you wish, all of you."
"Professor?" Harry said as you went to walk away, "You said Professor Lupin was a friend of my parents?" You nodded, explaining that you'd all been best friends at their age, "Do you think he would come too and tell me about my parents?"
You smiled, "I think that he'd love that, Harry. I'll say to him and we'll arrange something, alright?" You nodded at them once more before disappearing down the stairs and along the corridor. You hadn't seen Harry since he was a baby and goodness he was James's double just with Lily's eyes. Lily's lovely kind eyes. They'd be so proud. You had been so preoccupied you hadn't realised your feet had already taken you to the DADA classroom until you had stopped outside it and there he was. He was unpacking a box of trinkets onto his desk.
"Rem," you said quietly but his keen ears heard your voice and he stopped.
He raised his head and a wide smile grew on his face, "(y/n)," he said back, just as soft, "What are you doing here?"
"Gone and got myself a job. I'm the new Muggle Music Professor." Remus smiled. He knew about your love for Muggle music. It was something the two of you bonded over since Remus's mother was a Muggle too.
All the nerves you'd had about seeing him again vanished as he welcomed you into his arms. You forgot how tall he was, how he still towered over you. Your head was on his chest as you breathed deeply. He smelled the same; coffee and chocolate. A scent that was so comforting to you, so warm and friendly; he smelled like home. You liked that no matter how much time passed, he was still the same dorky Remus you once knew.
He pulled back, holding you at arms length to drink you in, "You look incredible."
You grinned, thanking him as your cheeks burned furiously. Life had not been kind to him, you could tell from the tattered clothes and the beaten up trunk in the corner. He looked in dire need of a sleep but he was still handsome, a little wearier and gaunt with a few extra wrinkles but those warm, honey brown eyes were the same. His scars were more silvery now, like his hair which was still light brown but had greys scattered amongst. He was still as handsome as you remembered but your heart panged knowing that life hadn't been as kind to him.
"So do you," you said with a smile.
Remus rolled his eyes, "Oh, hush," he laughed, "How have you been?"
You nodded, "Uh, yeah, good... Yeah. You?" Now it was time for the awkwardness to come.
Remus shrugged, "Can't complain now that I'm here."
"I met Snape," you told him after a moment of pregnant pause. You recounted the whole encounter, making Remus laugh loudly at how you ended the conversation.
"Bet he's gone off to dip his cloaks in detergent now that you've touched him."
"Still won't wash his hair though, will he?" You teased making Remus laugh again. That booming loud laughter that you loved to hear when you were sixteen.
When the laughter died down, you said, "Have you seen him yet? Harry, I mean." You sat on one of the tables and Remus sat on the one across from you.
He nodded, "Uncanny, isn't it?"
"I called him James. It was like looking into the past but with-"
"Lily's eyes."
You smiled, "They'd be so proud, wouldn't they?"
Remus sighed fondly, a ghost of a smile on his lips, "Oh you know that wherever they are Prongs is bragging all about their Chosen One of a son." You laughed and Remus's smile grew upon hearing your laughter. He'd missed hearing that sound.
"I missed you," he murmured, "I apologise for not being a very good friend."
You shook your head, "I'm sorry too... It was just too painful, Rem. It hurt to see you after... after losing everyone else, after Sirius." Remus nodded, "It still hurts even twelve years later. To see you was to not see them; a constant reminder that they're gone and that we're still here..."
"Survivor's guilt," Remus spoke quietly, "I'd went to therapy when I could afford it... That's what she called it." The two of you were silent for a while before he spoke, "And apparently Sirius is back to kill the last of the Potters'..."
"What happened?" You sighed, "How could he?"
Remus shook his head, "I've been asking myself that since it happened."
You sat up straighter, nudging his knee with your foot, "When I ran into Harry I'd told him that I was close with his parents, said that you were too... He's asked if we could both sit with him and tell him about his parents. The poor boy just wants to know who they were. Would you?"
"Course," Remus said, "Just let me know when and where."
You looked around the classroom. It was still pretty much the same as you remembered it to be just with added decoration on the ceiling, "It's not changed much," your voice was quiet, "it's nice to be back."
Remus stood and extended his hand to you, "Would you like to go do some exploring?"
You took his hand as you grinned, jumping down from the desk, "Oh, I'd love nothing more. Lead the way, Moony!"
And all of a sudden the two of you were sixteen again running around the corridors of Hogwarts keeping your friends in line.
"You're my best friend," Remus said, words slurred from the firewhisky. You were all laying on the floor in the Room of Requirement. James and Sirius were snoring loudly, Peter was hiccupping in a corner and you and Rem were on the floor facing each other, "I fancy you but you're my best friend first and forever." You giggled as he continued, "Don't ever leave me, I'd miss you too much, (y/n)."
As you walked with him, with the memory repeating in your mind, you couldn't help but latch onto his arm, head on his shoulder. His cheeks tinged pink as you did this so casually. Maybe things hadn't changed that much. Maybe things would be like how they once were. "I missed you, Remus... I think good things are in store for us both this year."
Oh please be right.

Hogwarts 1940s HCs
Fleamont and Charlus Potter are first cousins, although there is quite an age gap between the two of them.
Charlus was born in 1920 and so had already graduated from Hogwarts by the time his little cousin enrolled. I’d put Monty’s birth around the late ‘20s, maybe 1927 or 1928.
Canon puts his date of birth in or around November 29, 1909, but I’d prefer him to be a little closer in age to the Knights — I think most kids from the Marauders era had parents born in the ‘20s and ‘30s, I don’t think Monty should be any different.
Euphemia was the Quidditch player in the Potter family. Not a lot of girls played Quidditch back then, but I like the idea of Effie being amongst the few who did.
James gets his competitive streak from her, Effie was a spitfire back in the day. Like her son, she was a chaser and believe me when I say she fought very hard for her spot in the team.
Effie had her own ambitions, her own goals that she strived to accomplish, and she wasn’t going to let anyone get in her way and keep her from achieving them.
No one wanted a girl playing Quidditch, but Euphemia stood her ground until she got what she wanted.
I headcanon her as Slytherin, perhaps a few years below Walburga Black and Eileen Prince. I’d say she’s around Druella’s age… born in 1928 or 1929.
Minerva McGonagall was never given an official year of birth besides the one on Pottermore which is said to be 1935, but because of her appearance in FB: SoD that created a huge plot hole within the Potterverse timeline.
I’d like to keep her date of birth around the 1930s in canon butttt for the sake of my own personal take on Riddle era and who attended Hogwarts during the 1940s I want her to be born maybe somewhere in… 1923?
I’m not the biggest fan of switching canon when it comes to birth years but I really like the idea of Minerva attending Hogwarts around the time of Tom Riddle.
I don’t think they would’ve interacted much though, given the age difference. Minerva would’ve been fourteen by the time Tom enrolled at Hogwarts, and even if they did become acquainted they probably didn’t get too familiar with one another.
Minnie’s little brothers Malcolm and Robert are twins… I’m not sure if they explicitly say that they are in canon or if I’m just making it up (probably the latter tbh).
They were both born in 1928 so there is a five year age gap between Minnie and the boys.
Mal is a Ravenclaw and Bobby is a Gryffindor
Like their sister, both Mal and Bobby’s animagus forms are cats.
Lyle Lupin was from a pure-blood middle class family, he wasn’t as wealthy as the others but he made up for it with his intelligence.
He was sorted into Ravenclaw.
Lupin’s brilliance didn’t go unnoticed, not even by Tom Riddle who even considered recruiting him into the Knights.
Although this never happened because Tom knew Lyle would just decline his offer.
Lyle wasn’t a blood supremacist obsessed with blood purity, but that’s not to say that he wasn’t prejudiced.
Nonetheless he wasn’t going to take part in Tom’s extremist methods and the two just remained peers who both held mutual respect towards one another for their unrivaled brilliance.
Dolohov is a transfer student from Koldovstoretz. He enrolled at Hogwarts during his fifth year.
Druella had a crush on Tom Riddle.
Riddle obviously knew about this and used it to his advantage. He was very persuasive and manipulative… he could basically get Druella do to whatever he wanted without question.
Dorea Black is the aunt of Wally, Al and Cygnus — she’s five years older than Wally so Dorea was still at Hogwarts when her niece and nephew enrolled (excluding Cygnus because Dorea had graduated by the time he went to Hogwarts).

Lovegood sister reader sleep walks into professor Snape’s potion room late at night just to make some tea change my mind 👁👁
I can totally see this but instead of tea they boil some Gatorade and Snape just allows it. It becomes an odd but wholesome nightly ritual for the two but Lovegood!Reader has no recollection of it, meanwhile Snape gets to gossip and talk freely, he also sits contently and listens as the Reader goes on about whatever nonsense is on their mind. Luna has probably sleepily followed her sibling on a few of these sleepwalking outings.
There have even been a few occasions where McGonagall has wondered upon Lovegood!Reader and Snape’s nightly interactions and has joined them herself, allowing herself to indulge in the wholesomeness and relaxation of it. I really imagine the Reader just having a very light and airy atmosphere about them that leaves those around them feeling weightless and relieved, taking whatever hardships and stress off of whoever.
Peeves has also made his appearance at a number of these get togethers. At first, Snape and McGonagall were very against him having any part of these nice and relaxing moments but to their surprise he was on his best behavior. It’s the only time they’ve ever seen him calm and quite. But once these moments are over, Peeves is right back to his usual chaotic self. Also, he’s totally the one who escorts Lovegood!Reader around in their state of sleepwalking, instructing the where to go or he just sits back and lets them hon their own way but he stays by their side all the whole.
Dumbledore has also joined in on a handful of these little interactions, bringing some sweets here and there much to Minerva’s dislike of him giving sugar to the sleepwalking Reader thinking it will only cause them to be up and sleepwalking around even more than usual.

The Pain of Patronus [3]
Pairing: Professor Severus Snape x Female!Professor Reader
Warnings: Mentions of deaths, bloody description
Summary: After finding Snape after Nagini's attack, you go to great extents to get him help. When he recovers, you've changed. And to find more information Dumbledore makes a decision, one you're unhappy with.
A/N: I changed the story plot because Deathly Hallows traumatised me. Enjoy.
Part 1 Part 2
"Where is she?", the voice of the love of your life finally spoke. You didn't have much time to treasure his voice as Albus spoke, "You'll see her soon Severus".
You stood outside the hospital wing that occupied the few people. You knew what Albus was about to do. He was about to show Snape and the others your happiest and worst memories in order to find any missing information. You hated the idea, and you didn't hide your opinion from Dumbledore when he discussed it with you. He tried to soothe you with his reasoning and his fatherly figure, but he knew you'd stand your ground. You watched with shaky and fast breath from around the corner as Dumbledore was now holding an object that had the appearance of a crystal ball. Harry, Hagrid, McGonagall and even Snapes eyes glistened and glittered as Albus whispered a spell, slowly levitating the crystal ball that held you worst moments. It lifted itself up into the air and popped like a giant bubble, it was like the movie began. Minerva had told Severus what he'd be seeing and hearing, the attack on him committed by Nagini. He tried to shake it off, tried to shake off the nerves and the tears that were building up inside of him as he realised he's been forced to sit and watch your most painful moments. You watched the ball with a careful eye and when it burst you shut your eyes tight.
-memories-
You and the young boy were sat by water, making daffodil chains... well daffodil chains with old, dead, and withered daffodil heads and stems. You spoke quietly to the young boy, "You'll stay with me forever won't you?", "Always", Severus replied with a smalls smile on his face. As soon as you made the chains you decided to fly them over to one another. From afar another young girls eyes with ginger hair saw the face that belonged to the boy with the black hair and eyes. She decided to skip over to the Severus and... and the girl next to him. Whilst you and Severus were still messing with the ones you had both made, your attention and his was yanked away when the girl shouted his name whilst skipping up the hill to him. You watched the interaction between Lily and Severus; he handed her an old and dead daffodil chain he took back from you, and she gave him a bright and colourful daisy chain, she even put it around his wrist.
----
It was a few months later now and somehow Severus and Lily had grown even closer, and so had Lily and James. It was wrong and you knew it was. She was either leading one or both of them on or playing a cruel game with Severus just so James would bully him even more. You were sat opposite Severus and Lily, well you were sat next to him but she asked if she could have your seat. You couldn't say no to her she was too polite, and he was infatuated with her. So you sat opposite the wo students with your head resting on a closed fist as you mindlessly flicked through a book 'revising'. It wasn't long before you were left in the library by yourself as Lily had offered Severus to view the stars outside, to which he accepted her offer, didn't give you a second thought, and left. The memory showed you, a teenager, sat on the library table now after hours with an open book and staring off into space.
----
It was drawing to the end of the year, you and Severus hadn't spoken for weeks. You assumed he learnt his lesson with Lily as her and James walked Hogwarts grounds holding hands. You had gotten so lonely and withdrawn from your classes, eating, even reality; that Mr Filch and even Mrs Norris began to feel pity for you. As everyone was leaving Hogwarts for the final time as a student you wished to see Severus, and you did. Just the back of him. As he walked further and further away from you until you couldn't see him anymore.
----
You'd been working at Hogwarts for a few years now and Dumbledore had ordered you to become a Deatheater, for his own benefit. You soon discovered that Voldemort was going after Lily and James Potter, and you knew you had to do something. If Lily died it would kill Severus, even if they didn't talk for all of this time. So you were standing with Albus in your younger years of teaching begging him but not before he asked, "Why do you need the protection of Lily Potter so badly?", you ignored him and said, "Albus please, I beg you, hide them. Hide them all. Keep them safe I beg of you", to which he replied; "And what will you give to me in return Y/n?". "Anything", you quickly replied. You agreed to spend your life serving Albus and Hogwarts whilst being tied to Voldemort as a Deatheater. Snape and yourself had no idea you practically had the same double-sided job. Even at the Dark Lords meetings, you never once spoke, took your mask off. You never even moved. You found out the boys parents had been killed and that Severus found out and wept at the news, and of course at the sight he walked into at Godrics Hollow; you forced Dumbledore to tell you. "You promised me you would keep her safe!" "You came to the wrong person to give protection Y/n, I'm sorry". Of course during that difficult time period, you and Snape somehow grew further apart got more miserable and moody, and more vicious with the comments at one another.
----
Things at Hogwarts were getting tense, Potter was having more trouble with his sleeping, his visions and head pains of Voldemort, Hogwarts was being attacked by Demontors for what seemed like every 5 minutes.
----
You speedily walked to corner and question Albus. You had just finished a spell on Dumbledores hand that would keep the physical sight and damage of the spell hidden, but not for long. "How long do you think it will hold off?", he asked. "Not long, a year a least". You said with finality before dropping his hand and moving to walk away, "Don't ignore me Y/n". You halted, waiting to see what he wanted to say. "We both know Lord Voldemort has ordered Severus to murder me. But should he fail... I should presume the Dark Lord will turn to you. You must be the one to kill me Y/n". The memories showed your view of Dumbledore falling to his death. You slowly hung your head and shut your eyes, you didn't show or express any emotion hut inside you were crumbling, you were shutting down, the thought of killing Albus with everything else going on; it seemed impossible. "It is the only way. Only then will the Dark Lord trust you completely". You sighed and opened your eyes again letting him continue. "There will come a time when Harry Potter must be told something, but you must wait until Lord Voldemort is at his most vulnerable". You lifted your head up when you heard the boys name and because of the history you were immediately concerned for his safety and so you replied, "Must be told what?" Albus took a deep breath and started to move closer to you, "On the night Lord Voldemort went to Godrics Hollow to kill Harry, and Lily Potter cast herself between them... the curse re-bounded. When that happened, a part of Voldemort's soul latched itself onto the only living thing it could find... Harry himself"> Dumbledore stalked his way closer to you, "There's a reason Harry can speak with snakes, there's a reason he can look into Lord Voldemorts mind. A part of Voldemort lives inside him". You had braced yourself now and straightened yourself up, "So when the time comes, the boy must die?" You questioned with severity, "Yes. Yes. He must die", Dumbledore replied with his head down.
--
The memory was now showing Albus, Minerva, Harry, Hagrid and Snape the moment you fell to the nearest wall, where your emotions came crashing down, as Snape lying in the hospital bed, saw himself lying half dead against the Boating House glass with blood spattered all over it. He saw your breakdown as you were rushing over to him and he felt himself welling up.
--
The memories now took them back to the office where you were clearly displeased, angry and upset at Dumbledore. You were concerned for Harrys safety and Severus' wellbeing, "You've kept him alive so that he can die at the proper moment?... You've been raising him like a pig for slaughter." You voiced, strongly with anger clear. Albus quickly turned his head to you, seemingly shocked as you despised the boy, "Don't tell me now, that you've grown to care for the boy?". Your face dropped and you knew you had to spill your secret. In quick motion you took out your wand and cast a pratronum, "Expecto Patronum...". From your wand, a raven that had beautiful markings glided softly and eloquently throughout Dumbledores office, you both tracked it"
--
As they were watching the memory, Snape was crying, the tears were rolling down his cheeks and he didn't once bother to wipe them. Harry was upset, Hagrid and Dumbledore had their heads down. Minerva was wiping her nose until she made a noise and pointed at the memory. Your Patronum flew out of the memory and flew around the hospital wing and as it got nearer to the window it flew around Severus' head before flying out. He shut his eyes tight for a second, fully aware that your Patronus was his. He was the thing you love most.
--
As the raven finished its gliding around the room, Albus turned to you, shocked and he turned to completely face you as everything seemed to click in his head, "Severus". The memory suddenly flashed to you holding Severus' lifeless body with his cloak securely wrapped around him to keep him warm. The blood off the both of you was washed away by the torrential rain and your cries and screams were drowned out by the thunder. Back in the office, you put your head down as the tears began to roll down your cheeks. "After all this time?", he questioned and the pity and guilt was evident in his voice. "Always", you replied strongly.
--
Severus was silently sobbing, he put his hand over his eyes, not wanting anyone to see him cry. His tears had fell down his neck and wet the bandages that sat around his neck, covering the healing wounds from the snake. His arm brushed the bandages and he was instantly remined of the pain he went through, the pain you went through. He was reminded of how soothed and at ease he felt when you came to his rescue, when you stared into each others eyes, in the Boating House and each time at the dinner hall table. He finally knew the truth, he saw it. You risked your life every day to save Harry Potter because he was Lilys son, and you knew how much Lily meant to Snape. There was guilt, remorse, sadness, love, and anger at himself tingling throughout his still weak body. He knew what he had to do. And he told himself he was going to do it. Even if he had to crawl on his belly to the ends of the earth... he promised himself he would see you, and tell you how much he loved you, how you were his world, his everything.

Remus Lupin x reader
pairing: !professor Remus Lupin x !professor reader
Word count: ca. 1600
Warnings: brief mentions of deceased mother, Remus slightly angsty, fluff ending
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
The Hogwarts school year was starting today, the giddy students having lively conversations with each other, exchanging their summer stories, and you, a professor of Muggle Studies for several years, who had become acquainted with many of the staff members, particularly Minerva McGonagall and Severus Snape, was sat at the teachers' table enjoying the familiar atmosphere here at Hogwarts. You shared a unique bond with Severus, stemming from your mutual interest in Muggle literature. It was a cozy night in the Great Hall, and you were discussing a Muggle novel Severus had ironically recommended at the end of last year.
"I can't believe you enjoyed it," Severus remarked, a hint of surprise in his tone.
You chuckled and took a sip of your tea. "It has its own charm, Severus. You should give it another chance."
Before he could respond, Headmaster Dumbledore rose to his feet, and the room fell into a hushed silence.
In his speech, Dumbledore introduced the newest Defense Against the Dark Arts professor, Remus Lupin. As the name left his lips, you noticed Severus tensing slightly. It was a subtle reaction, but it did not escape your notice. You glanced down the table and spotted an unfamiliar face, having a rather sheepish look adorned on his face.
After dinner, the heads of houses followed their students to their respective common rooms, leaving some teachers behind, including you. The group of teachers gathered around in a small circle, each taking turns introducing themselves to the new professor.
When it was your turn, you couldn't help but feel at ease with Remus. There was a warmth to his smile and an openness in his eyes that drew you in. The conversation quickly turned into lighthearted banter, with Dumbledore having told Remus about your "obsession" with tea, thinking you'd get along well. His presence was both calming and intriguing, and you couldn't help but feel a sense of curiosity about the man who was now your colleague.
In the days that followed, your fondness for Remus grew. You looked forward to your daily interactions with him, sharing stories and experiences from your school days at Ilvermorny, where you had attended school. You talked about your childhood, explaining that you had grown up mostly in the Muggle world after your witch mother had passed away when you were young. It was your Muggle-loving father's influence that had led you to teach Muggle Studies.
Remus, too, shared stories of his past, and you discovered that you both had a deep appreciation for Muggle music, literature, and general culture. The connection between you two was undeniable, and your conversations became a highlight of your day.
One evening during tea in Remus' office, you mentioned your meetings with Severus, where the two of you would discuss Muggle literature. You suggested that Remus might join your discussions sometime, but his reaction was hesitant.
"I don't think that's a good idea," Remus admitted, his eyes troubled.
His response was a reminder of Severus' peculiar behavior, and you couldn't help but wonder what had transpired between the two of them in the past. You respected Remus' boundaries, deciding not to push the issue and directed the conversation in another direction.
A few days later, you found yourself in Severus' office, having offered to assist him with a potion. The thought of Severus's mysterious tension toward Remus was beginning to gnaw at you, and you couldn't help but ask what was bothering him.
"Severus, what's bothering you about Professor Lupin?" you inquired, not wanting to create conflict but genuinely curious.
Severus sighed, his dark eyes intense. "You should stay away from Lupin, y/n. He's not who you think he is."
You furrowed your brow, caught between your loyalty to Severus and your budding friendship with Remus, torn between trusting your friend and not seeing how the kind and gentle Remus could be anything other than what he appeared. "Severus, he seems like a very kind person. I can't imagine why you feel this way."
A tense silence hung in the air, and it was clear that Severus was grappling with his own emotions. Finally, he spoke, his voice low and strained. "He and his dunderhead friends tried to kill me."
Your heart raced at Severus' revelation and you recoiled in shock, unable to comprehend what had led to such a drastic act in their past.
Feeling conflicted and desperate not to lose the relationships with your two friends, you decided it was time to confront Remus. You couldn't allow your friendships to unravel due to an unspoken and unresolved conflict, you simply couldn’t imagine such a kind soul being able to do something so gruesome.
One evening, you found yourself in Remus' office, the two of you sitting in comfortable chairs by the fireplace, sharing stories from your past. You were drawn to the kindness in Remus' eyes, and as you spoke, you revealed your knowledge of Severus' behavior, his animosity toward Remus.
Remus' expression darkened as he hesitated, but he decided to open up to you, an act of trust that made your heart pound with affection. "I have a condition, y/n, a condition I can't control," he began, his voice tinged with vulnerability. "I'm a werewolf, and it's the reason Severus and I have such a complicated history."
You listened intently as Remus recounted the night when Severus had discovered his secret, a night when his former friend Sirius Black decided it would be a hilarious prank to convince Severus to come to the Shrieking Shack without the knowledge of the young werewolf, a night that almost ended drastic.
Moved by Remus' story and astounded by Sirius' reckless behavior, you showed no signs of distrust toward Remus. Instead, your empathy for his whole being only grew stronger. After the confession, the conversation took a lighter turn, filled with laughter and shared anecdotes.
As the evening came to a close, it was time for bed. You thanked Remus for his trust and told him that you were there if he ever needed anything. The hug that followed was more intimate and longer than one would expect between two friends, and you left his office with a smile on your face.
The following day, you sought to mend things with Severus. He agreed, albeit hesitantly, to accept your friendship with Remus. It was a small step toward reconciliation, and you hoped that, with time, the wounds of the past could begin to heal.
During one of your evening strolls around the castle, past curfew, you stumbled upon Remus taking a quiet walk as well. The moonlight bathed the castle in a soft glow, the full moon drawing closer and you could only imagine the emotions Remus must be feeling. The both of you decide to continue your once seperate strolls together and your fingers brushed against each other as you walked side by side, neither of you being brave enough to just hold the other‘s hand.
As you reached the Whomping Willow, Remus turned to you, a hint of vulnerability visible in his eyes. "There's something I want to show you."
Intrigued, you agreed, and he raised his wand, freezing the violent branches of the tree. Then, taking your hand in his, he led you toward the secret passage that led to the Shrieking Shack.
While the two of you looked around the abandoned building, Remus shared the story of his school days, the secret of the Animagi his friends became, and how his friends had taken on the risk to protect him during his transformations. It was a tale of loyalty, friendship, and sacrifice. Inside the Shrieking Shack, you sat down on an old sofa, hands still intertwined, gazing into each other's eyes.
As the conversation deepened, the space between you seemed to disappear, your fingers remaining intertwined , Remus couldn't help but open up about the doubts and guilt that had plagued him for years.
"I've always felt so guilty, y/n," he confessed, his eyes filled with guilt and sadness. "They risked everything to become Animagi to protect me during my transformations. They went to great lengths just to ensure I was safe, and I've never felt like I deserved it."
Your heart ached for Remus as he laid bare his inner turmoil. You tightened your grip on his hand, offering him a comforting and understanding smile. "Remus, you are more than worthy of the love and care your friends showed you. What they did, they did out of love and loyalty. They saw the goodness in you, and they believed in it, even when you struggled to see it in yourself."
Remus' eyes glistened with unshed tears, and you continued, your words filled with conviction. "You're not defined by your condition, Remus. You're a kind, compassionate, and incredibly intelligent person. You have so much to offer the world, and it's time you start believing in yourself the way your friends did."
Moved by your words and the emotions that had welled up within you, Remus couldn't fight the urge any longer. He leaned in, capturing your lips in a kiss that was both tender and passionate. Pulling away slightly, Remus apologized for kissing you, fear of rejection evident in his eyes, accompanied by a hint of longing. But you silenced him by pulling him close once more, letting your hearts speak the words that had remained unspoken for far too long. You wanted him to know that he deserved love, that he was worthy of the affection you were feeling for him and you showed it with the emotions you poured into many shared kisses that night.
The night turned into morning, and as you made your way back to the castle, fingers intertwined, you couldn't help but grin at the young professor, thinking about what the future possibly holds for the two of you
welcome to the rink!
my name is leo, and this is a collection of my microfics - in non-chronological order - all set in a marauders muggle au at an ice rink
James Potter, Sirius Black, Remus Lupin, Peter Pettigrew, Barty Crouch Jr and Evan Rosier all play on the ice hockey team. Peter is centre, Sirius and James are left and right wings, Barty and Evan are defense. Remus Lupin is in goal, having recently filled the vacancy when (James' ex and Remus' best friend) Lily Evans recommended that he gave it a go.
Remus is very intimidated by the team captain Sirius, who has as much energy as James, but channels it with a lot more purpose, and Remus can’t figure out his motives. he’s also a tad intimidated by the two defenders who seem to spend more time flirting than actually blocking the goal.
at the same ice rink, they also have figure skaters. while the hockey team are struggling underdogs who go on the rise with the new goalie addition, their figure skaters are renowned and legendary. their names are Regulus Black and Pandora Rosier.
Regulus, Pandora, Mary and Peter all figure skate (Regulus and Pandora professionally). Lily, Mary, Marlene, Dorcas and James all speedskate (the first four professionally). everyone at the rink is trained by skating coach Minerva "Minnie" McGonagall.
and a lot is about to go down.
ships are: rosekiller, sunseeker, wolfstar, dorlene and pandalily trans reg, mentions of depression and negative mental health, abusive relationships i'm a minor, so no hate please
please interact/send me asks/dm me about my fics, i would love to answer any questions and will take requests for microfics and povs :)
I'm really curious what was going on in Professor McGonagall's head during the last hinny interaction. Do you think she could tell Ginny may have a tiny tiny crush on Harry or was she truly blind to whatever that was. More importantly, could Harry or did he think Ginny was a little loopy in the moment lol
Minerva McGonagall sees all. She sees Ginny desperately trying to be normal and she sees Ginny fail. Of course she knows why. 😂
Harry remains oblivious. But quite unintentionally, Ginny did what Ginny does for Harry. She has an innate ability to knock him out of his negative thought loops. For a fraction of a second there, he forgot his frustration and relaxed because he was genuinely amused.
But he's a clueless 13-year-old boy. He wasn't aware that happened.
STOP I JUST REALISED THE LAST INTERACTION MINERVA HAD WITH SEVERUS WAS THEIR DUEL 😭😭😭
THE LAST THING SHE SAID TO HIM WAS "COWARD"
THE LAST TIME HE EVER HEARD HER VOICE IT WAS SCREAMING AT HIM IN HATE, CALLING HIM THE THING THAT ABSOLUTELY TEARS HIM WHEN CALLED IT
AND EVEN IF SHE SAID ANYTHING ELSE TO HIM HE WOULDN'T BE ABLE TO HEAR HER
THE LAST WORD SEVERUS SNAPE HEARD FROM MINVERA MCGONAGALL WAS "COWARD"
#im actually gonna cry right now this is too much#add in that “harmonising with fan but actually-” and its minerva singing a lullaby to severus that he'll never hear and it's heartbreaking#even if things weren't perfect they were still friends#and even when things were broken he still couldn't make himself hurt her#and to think that the last thing she said to him was “coward”#and neither knew that was goodbye#that duel was their goodbye and they didn't even know it#and just imagine minerva learning the truth#but it's too late to say sorry#it's too late for everything#she's too late#severus snape#minerva mcgonagall#harry potter
why do you ship Dumbledore and McGonagall when Albus is gay in the canon?🤔
Maybe I need to ask your permission about who I should ship and who I shouldn’t?
I know that Albus is gay. however, this information does not give me anything, since I have my own fanon, which I consider more logical. Albus and Minerva have many interactions in the books and have a special bond. This is enough for me to ship them. and for me this does not contradict the canon in any way.
Moreover, let’s take remadora and jily. James, like Remus, is straight in canon, but no one raises an eyebrow when couples like James/Regulus and Sirius/Remus appear. so why can't I ship Albus and Minerva? or can others do it because it’s LGBT? for some reason no one comes up when in fanon Minerva is seen as a lesbian and ship her with Poppy and Pomona, despite the fact that she was married to a man.
therefore, let's not be a hypocrite, hiding behind the canon and respect other people's ships
GTC how could you, this broke my heart 😭
“I had no choice! Are you joking? You’re Lord Malfoy! A real boy, with real parents, a real life! Saint Draco of Gryffindor Tower, always sneering, always lording over the high ground! First man in history to get Snape and McGonagall wrapped around his fucking pinky, with your perfect marks and your prefect's badge and your do-gooder pals — you’ve had a good life all but shoved down your throat, and you still think you have the right to talk about hard choices? Sorry to trouble you, sir, but I’m Theodore fucking Nott, and I broke the world. And you’re free. So don’t talk to me about death sentences.”
also i LOVE that draco has both severus snape and minerva mcgonagall wrapped around his pinky, making this little piece of GTC-canon my whole personality now 🥹
Thank you, beloved. Loved writing that scene, so glad you enjoyed/despaired entirely at it.
While I also am tickled by the concept, you reminded me of what I liked about that tiny little Snape/McGonagall comparison. (This isn't to say it's wrong, there's just Layers to it that I wanted to ramble about.) Contextually, it comes packaged inside a broader declaration about how Theo sees Draco — that is, an idealized lightning-rod for Theo's envy and pent-up frustrations about his own life — which is at a stark contrast with Draco's perspective. While Snape's favoritism is pretty easy to infer from the godfather-relationship and the fact that Snape just... generally is not slick with it (#Slytherin) I think the McGonagall part is way more informative about how transactionally Theo sees student-professor relationships! We don't know exactly what he's thinking about here — is he just assuming that Draco gets McGonagall's favor because he's a Gryffindor, leading off that remark about "Gryffindor Tower"? Or is he talking about McGonagall and Draco's relationship personally, in which case: why? McGonagall doesn't interact personally with Draco (or any particular student) often outside of class environments, and even though McGonagall clearly likes some people more than others, she's not unfair, and she doesn't abuse her power to favor them. Even when she bends the rules to give Harry a broomstick, she makes a point of trying to avoid outright breaking them (though not unrelatedly, Draco strongly believes that Harry is McGonagall's favorite, cf. "Summer's End.") And Theo doesn't even know about that incident!
So if Theo is actually making a remark about McGonagall personally, he's likely basing it on on the fact that (1) Draco is a prefect, (2) plays on the quidditch team (McGonagall's somewhat obvious soft spot), (3) is generally competent in class, or, (4) he's seeing a fondness in McGonagall's interactions with Draco that Draco doesn't. (4) is both possible and likely, considering how often Draco is surprised by the fact that people like him. (He's not good at reading affection if it isn't effusive fawning or communicated by insult.) But it's a far, far jump from that to "wrapped around your finger" by any stretch of the imagination, because: Minerva McGonagall? In what universe?
But to the point, the comment isn't really about McGonagall, anyway. Theo's flattening Draco's relationship with her down to a system of patronage, like the ones he's used to; it's not a mentoring bond between two people, it's just another shiny thing Draco has that he doesn't, and he shows that by describing it in terms of what Draco might be able to get out of it. It's not "she likes you," it's "wrapped around your finger," implying the possibility for manipulation and use. He's envious of Draco because Draco has options, and his access to authority figures who care about him broadens those options even more. Theo, meanwhile, is functionally orphaned, and the only person in the castle he can count on for political support is Umbridge. So there's a sort of emotional underbelly beneath that particular jab.
