The Silt Verses Series Finale - The Big Info-Post

Hey, wonderful people!

We’ve had a fair few questions lately about the show's upcoming finale in a couple of weeks, so for ease and efficiency I just wanted to collate and share a few key points publicly ahead of today's penultimate episode release.

Length! AKA "How are you possibly going to wrap up X or Y if there's only one episode left?" Right now, the rough cut of the Silt Verses series finale is about 3 hours and 15 minutes (lol). That’ll inevitably change as we continue to edit and it could end up being a fair bit shorter, but I am increasingly of the mind that we’ll release it in two parts of ~60 and ~120 minutes, on the same day (still currently scheduled to be Thursday 18th July). If the work is done and we feel confident it’s not going to ruin anything major for everyone else, we might slip out the first part a day or two early on Patreon. But we'll see. Spoilers!  Yeah, there are definitely going to be a fair few major spoilers going around. Please be mindful of using spoiler tags both when avoiding them and spreading them. Us! Our baby is due hilariously soon after the finale release date, so we will likely be going dark for a while afterwards. As we’ve mentioned, we’ll be putting together a post-season post-natal QnA in the works as our next project so please send us your questions! If we unexpectedly go AWOL in the next few weeks before the finale releases, the most likely explanation is that the baby has shown up early/unexpectedly and we've had to drop everything and run to the hospital. If there is a disruption or delay, we’d be really grateful and appreciative for your patience and support but fingers crossed all will go to plan.

"You ever thought of getting a tattoo?"

Midway through polishing his leather shoes, Tommy looks over at Evan leaning on the sideboard in the entryway. He's wearing a gorgeous teal sweater and sipping on hot chocolate in his Number One Ally mug, the very epitome of cozy fall. It's been a lazy day spent completing chores around the house, with changing out the hallway lightbulb the most exciting thing to happen that afternoon.

Honestly, Tommy loves these sort of days. And he loves that he has Evan to share them with now.

When Evan raises his eyebrows inquisitively, Tommy remembers the question. "Oh, I did, briefly. But I went to a parlor and, uh, the sound of the needle freaked me out." He chuckles self-deprecatingly.

Evan hums, thoughtful. "What did you want for your first tat?"

Tommy pauses, putting the shoe in his hand down. The verse comes to him easily; he has written out the entire poem perhaps more than a hundred times when he was on active duty, a means to remind himself why he was there in the first place.

Slowly, he says, "I have slipped the surly bonds of Earth / And danced the skies on laughter-silvered wings."

Evan looks... kind of surprised? "Is that a poem?"

"Opening lines of High Flight, John Gillespie Magee Jr." Tommy resumes polishing the shoe. He doesn't give further details, knowing that Evan will look it up on his own. Instead, he says, "When I was in high school, I had... I didn't have plans for my future, other than 'get the hell out of here'. And the army came knocking, and I answered."

For a second, his mind flashes back to himself as a kid. Angry, lost, looking for a target. He takes a deep breath. The smell of polish is comforting, grounding. He is here at home with the man he loves. It's all behind him.

"I memorized that poem when I was training as a pilot," he went on. "I'm not... I never liked violence. Not even in retaliation. Signing on as a pilot was not about hitting back at the enemy, not in my case. It was just a means to get out. I didn't really understand what I was signing up for until... Going on tours gave me a chance to see how fucked up war is. That poem helped me on the really bad days when I wanted to throw in the towel, go AWOL or something."

He doesn't say that something is a permanent departure from the mortal plane. Eddie would've understood. Evan is blessedly innocent in this aspect, and Tommy will protect that with everything he can.

After another moment of rubbing at an invisible stain, he glances up once more, meets Evan's empathetic gaze. He smiles at the younger man. "Yeah. I actually, uh, have put down in my will that the poem is to be read at my funeral, if I died in an accident while flying." He flushes, ducks his head. It's too morbid for such a pleasant day.

Evan comes to him and puts his hand on Tommy's cheek, makes him look at Evan. Eyes the color of the open summer sky.

"If it ever comes to that," Evan says quietly, "I will recite it."

"I hope you never have to," Tommy responds, turning into Evan's palm and kissing it.

About Miguel taking the place of Gabriella's father -

BACK AT IT AGAIN WITH THE MILD MIGUEL -

I know we say ooooohhhh Miguel is a psychopath, he's evil for taking her dads place. that's so creepy

and yeah, it is creepy. horror movie shit

But Question:

If you saw a child, a child belonging to another you, going through a deep pain, alone. Wouldn't you step in?

If you knew that a child was about to experience a traumatic event - and you were the only person in the universe with the ability to help.

Would you? Like you, personally. Or would you turn the other way and let fate take it's course?

Would you even have the strength to do that?

When Gwen lost her father in front of Jess, Jess felt like someone had to step in. WE felt like someone had to step in.

When Gabriella lost her father in front of Miguel - wouldn't he feel it too? Wouldn't you?

He did. He stepped in. And he tried to change it. And he killed her.

When Miguel and Jess are both faced with a young girl, on the verse of losing her father in an abrupt and traumatic way, they probably both thought the same -

'Someone has to do something. I have to do something.'

So with that in mind - can we imagine that Miguel felt that same way when looking at Gabriella? A girl who just lost her father abruptly? In a violent, permanent way?

Looking at her father and knowing that...eventually - Gabby is going to know something is wrong. Her father isn't coming home. And very soon - she's going to start getting scared.

Knowing that from this day forward her life will chance in a very big and very painful way.

Or it couldn't.

Or, he could step in. Or, he could head 'home'. He can tuck Gabby in like nothing happened. She could go on like she lived everyday - normal, happy, safe, and with a dad that loves her. Nothing has to change. No funeral. No death anniversaries. No empty space. All he has to do is step in. Or, he can look the other way and let fate take it's course. And let Gabriella end up wherever the universe decides.

What would you do? Can you even decide that?

Look, Do I think what Miguel did was right - taking her father's place? I don't know. Does it matter? Either way - Gabriella suffered.

But do I think Miguel is a psychopath? Do I think he was obsessed, and scheming? No. I don't at all. I think he, like Jess, saw a kid in need. I think he's normal. He's Just Miguel. I think he was monitoring the universe for other Miguels, the same way they monitor all universes for anomalies or recruits. And when Lyla told him about the death - about Gabby - he was faced with a very hard decision -

I don't believe Miguel - at his baseline - is an intentionally malicious person. In any capacity.

I think he's a dude, like Jess - who saw a little girl in need. And now he's in way too deep, and people are dying, and he doesn't know how to stop it no matter how hard he tries and everything he does seems to make it even worse

And when he's trying - when he pulling out all the stops, finding all the best, watching universes day & night - nothing helps. Anomalies keep happening.

Even after all that, after making a whole society - he can't stop it. People are still dying.

And the moment he realizes this - the moment Miles breaks free and escapes. He realized once again - the universe is in control. He was never going to fix it. He never could.

All the efforts he put into The Society can't stop Spot - and they can't stop Miles.

And now, because Miguel isn't good enough to catch him, people are going to die, on his watch AGAIN.

Or..at least that's how Miguel sees it.

Miguel didn't sign up for this. He didn't sign up to be a boss holding all of existence together with duct tape and silly string.

He signed up to be a dad. He just wanted to help a little girl.

And now people are dying, Gabriellas dead, People's universes are on the edge of collapse, and now Miles is coming into play, and he's gonna lose HIS dad and Hobie's finally gone AWOL knowing it was gonna come eventually -

And Yes, he snapped. (lol not in the cvnty way)

Between those moments he went from this -

To this. The emotional deterioration is sudden. Everyone around him is stunned he's capable of this.

Does Miguel even know he's capable of this?

I don't know.

I just know this is us seeing a Miguel with reasoning - and a Miguel without it. A Miguel who is being conscious about what he's doing and the words he's picking, to a Miguel running on pure rage and fury and desperation alone.

There's no planning here. There's no stopping to think. He can't and he won't. He wants everyone in the field now.

This is Miguel not being normal. And he got to this point -

All because he wanted to help a little girl. The same way we wanted to help Gwen.

I don't think Miguel's story is about an unhinged man using trauma as an excuse to rule with an iron fist.

I don't think that's what this is. Miguel's story is the same as Jess story is the same as Peter's story.

He wanted to help this kid who needed him. And it backfired.

I think Miguel's story is a reminder that sometimes our help can hurt.

And I think his story is a reminder that Yes, even normal people can reach Miguel's level of rage.

Even normal people can be pushed to the point total powerlessness, of feeling like everything you do makes everything worse. To total desperation - just to make anything better some way, some how. To just get any sense of control back when you're on a ride you didn't ask for and can't get off of.

No - I don't think anybody would go mauling children, but I do think there is a point where it does get to much. When literally nothing in the universe is going how you want it to, and you're angry. At it, and everyone in it, anyone that goes along with it-

Anybody can snap.

At this point..I'm not trying to justify what he did - I never was.

I guess I'm just saying I admire Miguel and his character depth for making a very difficult choice. And I hope Gabriella enjoyed the time she had left with Miguel.

Not because he deserved it.

Because she didn't deserve anything that happened to her. She deserved a loving and happy dad. And I hope that's what he gave her. I hope she didn't have to know about all this terrible shit, or why her dad had to wear that watch ALL THE TIME now.

I hope Miguel did what he came to do in the time he had to do it and everything else sucks.

But back to the question.

You see a scared child about to lose their parents. Do you help them?

If that child was technically your child, if they looked like you and laughed like you, - if you knew no one else in the universe could make this better BUT YOU - would you help them? Or no? No judgement, I'm just curious. Because honestly...I don't know what I'd do. At the very least, I don't think Miguel malicious. I don't think he was scheming. In fact, maybe he didn't even think twice.

Who knows.

But looking back, I think everything - everything we see happen in ATSV - was solidified the moment he stepped into Gabriella's world. I don't think there was ever really a point where Miguel would be allowed to say 'I'm in over my head and I need out.'

He was never going to fix it. He never could. We know it. Maybe he knows it too.

But that doesn't mean he can stop trying.

Miguel was never gonna fix it. He was always bound to snap.

I guess what I'm saying is I feel bad for Miguel. Shoot me. Call it a brick and a hard place. But also don't maul kids.

I think he's just Miguel. And he's in way too deep, because he wanted to help. Some Mild Miguel. But anyway -

If you were Miguel: Would you have helped Gabriella?

BONUS QUESTION: If you knew you were going to be leaving behind an orphan child- and you knew your other self would love your child like their own and take your place without the kid enduring the pain - would you want them to step in, or no? Would you rather your kid know you're dead, and then let the system and proceedures play out as fate makes it?

if i were to tweak feyn's history/verse for inquisition and veilguard to be a fen'harel double agent...

because they traveled together some during the blight, leliana knows that feyn is an excellent hunter and tracker, and if anyone has a hope of finding the hof, it would be him. she reaches out to him about the wardens and asks in his help searching for the hof and the wardens in general. having been mentored by the hof in amaranthine, feyn has some ideas on where to go or what to do, and takes off to deliver the messages leliana needs.

by the time feyn gets back, he's set his sights on continuing the scouting, spying, delivery work with leliana--he spends literally 100% of his time in the field, getting things to or from leliana (or charter or others) via dead drops and pass offs to middlemen or other agents

(at this point, he's awol from the wardens. most assumed he died at adamant, which suits him just fine)

by the time of trespasser, no one thing can be contributed to feyn, he's made nearly no big moves himself nor been given anything of huge import, but his loyalty to the inquisition is known, and that's key

regardless of whether the inquisition is disbanded or given to the chantry, the current spy roster has to be shaken up to faces unfamiliar--so feyn gets brought in from the field to take on bigger and more influential work

eventually they decide they need a man on the inside and feyn, with his years of independent work, excellent memory, charm, tracking knowledge, dalish background, and warden improvements, makes a fine agent

feyn heads immediately to tevinter to start a long undercover mission. gets himself captured, enslaved, and put to work in a shipyard and storage warehouse, moving goods around

assists a fen'harel agent, who frees him in return and recruits him to the cause

after doing a few odd jobs here and there, it's revealed he has a talent as a tracker and is put to work to find various components needed in some of solas' rituals

his identity is discovered once during a mission. during the mission, one of the other agents in their three person squad had died in the line of duty, and rather than risk his time as a double agent coming to light, he killed the second agent. feyn was regarded suspiciously for a time since he was the only survivor to return, but eventually his skills as a tracker were needed

he is the agent who finds the lead on the red lyrium idol and tracks it to the auction house in llomerryn. part of his ability to find the lyrium idol is by tapping into his warden ability to sense darkspawn by focusing on the call of the blight within the lyrium. when asked, however, he just says he has a lucky streak and a good gut for guessing

feyn is one of the agents tasked with protecting solas during the evanuris prison transfer. while he's at the temple, he positions himself in such a way that he can kill solas with an arrow to the heart. he fully intends on doing so until varric appears and messes with his aim--the shot goes wide and in a stroke of incalculable bad luck, shatters some of the scaffolding holding up the statues

unsure if his cover is blown or not, feyn books it down to the center platform to at least steal away the lyrium dagger. two outcomes can occur:

1) rook makes it to varric first, gets ko'd, and feyn helps neve and harding escape to the lighthouse. until anyone knows any wiser, feyn keeps to his cover as an agent of fen'harel. saving rook, harding, and neve then was a choice made by him, showing that solas was actually interested in minimizing casualties, as he figured other agents in the area would fend for themselves after seeing solas shoved into the fade.

2) feyn makes it to the dagger but cuts his palm trying to get it and varric away from the emerging evanuris. neve and harding rush out to help and catch varric's last exclaimed word as "rook"--feyn's codename amongst leliana's reports. feyn then takes the place as rook, though he's torn between loyalties and ideologies

QUICK FACTS

born and raised in aurora bay and lived a pretty comfortable life growing up since their father always provided for them while their mother took care of them.

in school, she never really excelled in academics and because of this, their dad always compared her to her high-achieving brothers. ger lack of study habits, coupled with a preference for extracurricular activities, set her apart as the family's outlier. however, her hardwork in volleyball was rewarded when she became the team captain during junior year. she also dabbled in the drama club, but more of the person behind the scenes rather than the one acting in it.

since she didn't really have much prospects for college, blair just ended up going to aurora bay college. however, she wasn't really sure what she wanted to take so she found herself drifting from one major to another. she was one of those kids who had no idea what they wanted to do with their life, unlike her brothers who seemed to have their life mapped out ahead of them. her older brother, rhett harris, was starting to make a name for himself and their band; blair was obviously their biggest fan and she attended almost all of their gigs. but tragedy struck just after his band was scouted for a tour and that was one of the things that turned her life around. it forced her to confront the unpredictable nature of life and inspired her to pursue her passion—film.

aurora bay's film school in their college wasn't exactly top-tier, but she didn't want to go far away from home especially when her brother was still recovering. nonetheless, she enjoyed this course much better than her previous ones. the course of her life was just beginning to get better when another unfortunate event struck them. their mother has fallen sick. considering that blair has always been a momma's girl, she was shattered by the news and started acting out more.

she's never been a straight-laced girl, but the news only made her more volatile and destructive. she always ends up putting a facade that she doesn't give a fuck about anything when in reality, she's just trying to numb all her feelings. also the type of girl who has no filter and says what she means without really thinking about what the other person might feel. she currently revels in chaos because her life is just a mess of chaos lately.

currently, she's on awol at school without her parents actually knowing about it. as far as they're concern, she's still diligently attending her classes and not spending her days working at the pinball wizard arcade.

hello, lovely nonnie! thank you for the inquiry! i've been a bit slow/busy lately, so two of my go-to suggestions for me are a bit awol at the moment... which is i love to like starter calls and also i tend to make them! but since i've been trying to catch up, i've not been doing either lately ajsdfkl;jaf the best way to start things with me these days is just to message me if you have something in mind! doesn't need to be a full plot, but if you have a barebones idea or a relationship you'd like to explore, just slide into my askbox or ims or hmu for d.isco. i'm a bit slow depending on work but plotting/chatting through things helps a lot and will make it easier for me to write when i can get to it! i also think establishing a basic reaction with cat is super nice because it helps dodge some of the awkward intro stage. another way is to send memes! i don't have a lot on my blog but i got a few i like. i feel like memes are easier to set up an intriguing situation without necessarily having to plot or the like. but if you do have a verse preference or interaction preference, just include that in the ask! random ask interactions in general also work just as well if not better at times tbh. lastly... honestly if we're mutuals, just ask/let me know you'd like to make me a starter and pretty much 99% of the time i'll say yes! as long as you understand i'm as slow as molasses right now ( work is in crunch mode for a bit ) ajfskl;ja and if you don't have plots or ideas or anything yet, you can always just message me to chat, get to know each other, ask questions about our muses, yatta yatta! sometimes my ability to converse is low because work takes a lot out of me and so i apologize in advance for that at times but. despite what it may seem, i adore chatting/connecting with others. my focus just doesn't always lol. i hope that helps any? long story short. i'm a slow, busy bean, but i love people and writing and am trying to get back in the zone so just give me some patience is all!

Thinks about Chad's verse where he just dips. Just drops everything and runs away to start a new life. Gets a junker van, tricks it out with kid and teen tech, turns it into one of those van homes, and takes to the road as a vigilante, still fighting adult tyranny but just on his own terms. Leaves a runaway letter for his parents warning them that they won't be able to find him and probably a concerning text to the teen's group chat before going absolutely AWOL. Finally has enough, realizes how much of a clusterfuck he's let his life become. He realizes that he resents his past for creating the monster he is, and resents his present for being a nightmare that destroys what he built as a kid more every day. Just goes off to figure out who he is and who he wants to be and just allows himself to have the childhood he never got to have because he was too busy protecting other kid's childhoods. All the while growing up and figuring out what that means to someone like him. I have a lot of feelings about Chad.

Main Verse: Probably the time he had ghost sickness, or the time he acted like a dog. Both of those were so out of character for him that he gets embarrassed just remembering them. Especially when he screamed his head off because of a stupid cat.

SHIELD Verse: Somehow he survived his first year with SHIELD, but it was supremely embarrassing at all times. He had a panic attack in his first or second day there because he was so overwhelmed by everyone and everything going on and had to be hauled up from the corner he'd tucked himself into.

There was also the time following his attempt to rescue his recruiter from an Android gone made, it created a lot of stigmas because he had technically gone AWOL, and it made it difficult for him to fit in for a while. He knows it was a logical reaction to his perceived betrayal, but he felt so alone and worked himself so hard to prove himself that he ended up passing out from exhaustion. It took him a long time to find confidence in himself outside his element and balance work and rest.

You mentioned in one of your q&as that you didn’t much like the episode with Hembry and the Watcher in the Wings. Have you seen the analyses and parallels people are drawing between that episode and the finale? Any thoughts?

It honestly isn't the case that I don't like the Hembry episode (I do like it very much and David Ault's performance is one of my Season 2 highlights!), more that in the days before it went out, I was convinced that it was going to be poorly received for its staginess and meta elements.

So it was more anticipatory fear and self-loathing ahead of release than actual dislike.

I haven't seen a lot of analyses about the finale yet - the baby showed up early (but safely) a few days after the finale released so we've been pretty AWOL!.

But I would agree that there's definitely a conversation going on between the two episodes and their ideas about what makes a satisfying conclusion (a line by Carpenter, 'it can end with kindness', is a direct rejoinder to Hembry's 'it ends in death').

In Garden's Overgrown aka Mecci verse Hawkmoth does not and has never existed but could have done and that incident is what led to the previous Guardian to being lost and a new one taking over. Unfortunately he knows who they are meaning they're constantly moving around as that man will use every connection he's got to track them down. They're back in Paris currently but they have been taking full advantage of Kaalki to keep on the move. There's a room specifically for the kwami in the place they're currently staying too!

The previous Guardian is who picked Harlequin and the now awol Black Cat though they don't pick either? They have a different system of letting the kwami pick then check out the potential themselves so the choice is entirely theirs with the Guardian double checking it's an okay person/finding out who for their own reference so they can keep their identity hidden. Lukoss for instance was Mullo's pick.

Tikki does not like the current Guardian and they've been at odds since the forced takeover and only gotten worse since. Since there's no Hawkmoth I wonder what's going on that has so many Miraculous currently in play :)

i do want to give everybody a head's up that, yes, my angeal and @fairboy's zack are in a relationship. i know this is hella awkward and weird and confusing but i just wanted to state that it's something that me and kianye have talked extensively about. and i'll be explaining everything to the best of my ability via bullet points down below:

yes ... angeal is canonically 9 years older than zack. angeal was 25 whereas zack was 16 when angeal died. this is 100% canon. however! in my canon, angeal never died and actually got rescued by DEEPGROUND in hopes of him and genesis working alongside them. angeal said no and went AWOL until the beginning of ff7 and ff7r.

zack is canonically 23 at the end of crisis core and the beginning of ff7 and ff7r. this would make angeal about 32 years old. in fact, angeal has no clue that zack was still alive because they hadn't spoken since their fight 7 years prior. not only that but it's not like they start dating and fucking the second they reunite. that's 100% ooc for both of them.

our main verse takes place during the events of ff7r. which makes zack 23 and angeal 32. they're both consenting adults and are fully aware of everything. there's no forcing shit or anything. simple as that.

angeal is 100% against child grooming and p*dophilia. and he'll straight up tell you that he's against it. not only that but he'll actually kill a bastard or bitch who support either of the two without second thought. and let's not forget that zack is 100% blunt and already has a pretty damn good idea of who he is as a person and who he wants to become. he'd call angeal out on his bullshit despite worshipping the ground this man walks on. in fact, he actually has a couple of times in the game.

angeal actually ends up having a morality crisis because he knew zack as a teenager. but, again, they hadn't seen each other in 7 years. not only that but they've both grown quite a lot for better and worse due to their ptsd and how absolutely fucked up shinra is as both a person and company. and they don't start dating until a good while after reuniting. not only that but, again, zack is very blunt and m, "Hey. There's nothing wrong with this. I'm a consenting adult and if you were being weird about anything I'd tell you upfront regardless of my feelings for you."
