Gordon Malloy x Reader

PT 1

Shockingly, making out with Gordon didn’t lead to anything.

Well, at least, you were shocked.

After hanging up on Kevin, you’d maybe made out for ten more minutes before he gently peeled himself from you, laughing awkwardly at the way you grabbed for him.

“You should go to bed,” he reasoned, sitting back on his knees, eyes drawn to the pout on your lips.

“I don’t wanna go to bed yet.”

“Come on. It’s been a long night.” He stood, taking your hands and pulling you up.

“Come with me.”

“I’ll put you to bed.”

“And lay with me.”

He sighed, shaking his head. “You’re not gonna let this go, are you?”

“No.” You grinned, pulling him along towards your bed.

“No funny business,” he tried, watching you let go of his hands and scramble into bed.

“Mmhm.” You waved him down, and he’d shed his shoes before joining you, arms open in offering, which you’d taken, pressing your face into his shirt with a sigh.

He’d been gone when you woke up. And you haven’t seen him since.

Which, in such a big ship, you hadn’t been too worried about. At first. But a day turned into two, which turned into a week, and you were a little worried. You were starting to think he didn’t actually want to kiss you.

But Talla had waved that concern away when you brought it up. “Oh, come on, the way he was looking at you? Of course he wanted to kiss you!”

It had made you feel better for a day until you decided you must have done something else wrong. He was obviously avoiding you. Sure, he was stationed on the bridge, and you were always in the lab, but to not even spot him in passing, or in the mess?

Gordon figured it was for the best. Really, while you two had never really been close, like ever, he’d heard from people who knew you better how on and off you and D’Acunto had been. 

The pair of you were never broken up long, and he’d definitely seen the dozen messages from him waiting for you when he’d woken up the morning after. He didn’t read them, though he desperately wanted to, only seeing the preview of a message that looked to be some kind of apology. 

Regardless of how shitty D’Acunto was, there was no way he could compete with an on-and-off over ten-year relationship. He cursed himself for even thinking D’Acunto would let someone like you go, grabbing his jacket on his way out your door that morning.

Avoiding you felt like it was burning him a little, a feeling he wasn’t really used to. But it made it easier for him, not having to hear you tell him it was a mistake.

Your quarters weren’t on the same deck as his, so coming and going from the bridge to his quarters, there was little risk of overlap. He could get just about anything he got in the mess from the synthesizer in his own quarters.

Ed told him he was stupid after about a week, showing up at his door to hang out and have a drink.

“You don’t even know if she’s actually going to forgive him,” he’d pointed out, beer bottle in hand.

“Except that she always does,” Gordon returned with a sigh, taking a long drink.

“Didn’t you say you made out even after he called? That doesn’t feel like someone who’s gonna take a guy back.”

“She was drunk.”

“She was barely tipsy, according to Talla.”

“Talla made her spill half her drink down her shirt, dude.”

“Yeah, which she’s saying she did on purpose.”

He groans, rubbing his forehead. “I know what she said, man.”

“She also said she’s been asking about you.”

He feels himself freeze up, glancing at his dark-haired friend. “Yeah, well… It’s not a big deal,” he tries.

“Dude, do you hear yourself? If the roles were reversed, you’d be on my ass about it!”

He snorts, setting down his empty beer bottle. “Good thing for you that they aren’t. How’s Lieutenant Q-”

“Don’t change the subject, dude.”

He puts his hands up defensively. “Fine, fine. But it’s not that big of a deal.”

“Gordon,” Ed sighs, resting his beer bottle on his knee. “It’s been years since you’ve been interested in, like, an actual person. She seems nice.”

“She’s cool,” he admits slowly, picking at his pants idly.

“I still don’t get why you’re avoiding her.”

They ended up going in circles about it almost the whole time he was there, saying their goodbyes at nearly 0100 hours.

Another week passes before he braves the mess, John’s arm over his shoulder as he loudly regales him with a story about him flirting with one of the newest additions to the science lab.

He can feel the moment your eyes light on him, nearly burning through his skull as he takes a seat with his friend.

You can feel rage bubbling in your chest when you spot him, annoyed that he’d almost met eyes with you before he sat with his back to you.

Ada- the Lieutenant you’d seen with the Captain at Lamarr’s party- clicks her tongue, waving a hand. “Ignore him. Seriously. He’s been super weird lately.”

You’d become quick friends in the time following the party, making an effort to branch out and find your own friends, hoping to distract yourself from the way Gordon had been ignoring you.

“Seriously. He’s missing out,” Talla agrees easily, glancing over her shoulder at the pair. “He needs to get over himself.”

You sigh, pulling your eyes from him. “I just don’t get what’s going on. I thought-”

“You thought correctly, really,” Talla assures. “He’s just being an idiot.”

“Should I say something?” You question, as Kelly returns to your table with a few shots.

“I wouldn’t,” she advises.

“I probably would,” Ada scrunches her face up a little.

“Kevin still blowing you up?” Talla peeks at you as you all grab a shot, clinking the small glasses together and tossing it back.

“No, thankfully.” You sigh, setting the glass down. “I think he’s finally accepted that it’s over.”

“Good. I don’t know how he thought he was gonna get you back after all that mess.”

“Yeah, an argument and breaking up is one thing, but no contact for that long is just insane,” Kelly adds.

“Time to get back out there!”

You can’t help but glance at Gordon again. “I’m gonna go say something.”

“Are you sure about that?” Kelly sounds concerned. “In front of LaMarr?”

“Yup.” You hop down from the tall chair, heading towards the table.

LaMarr’s eyes find you first, and he gives you a friendly grin as Gordon slowly turns to peek back, and he looks like he nearly bites his tongue when he sees you stalking towards him.

“We need to talk.”

He flounders a little, looking nervous. “I’m bus-”

“That’s my queue,” John gives you a nod, raising a hand towards the girls you’d just left and standing from his seat, heading towards them. “I’ll see you later, man.”

“...Busy,” he finishes lamely, eyes on the other man’s retreating form.

You take the seat right next to him, and he jumps a little as his eyes refocus on you. 

“Listen-”

“I know-”

You start talking at the same time, voices dying off quickly. You can’t help but think he looks like he thinks you’re going to execute him, and you sigh, all too aware the nosy group at the previous table you occupied is probably watching you.

“Come on.” You stand, hauling him by the collar. He yelps, but follows, finding your grip dragging him along to be too firm.

It’s silly, he knows, but he tries slyly to shirk his uniform jacket, only for you to turn on him and grab his hand instead.

“You’re not getting away from me that easy, Malloy.”

You drag him all the way to your quarters, punching in your code and sort of pushing him in. He lets another yelp out but doesn’t fight, seemingly resigned.

“Why are you avoiding me?” You stand in front of your door, arms crossed, watching him deflate a little.

“I’m not.” You don’t even have to know him very well to know he's lying.

“You haven’t been in the mess for two entire weeks,” you argue.

“Taking some personal time.” He stumbles back when you step towards him, and if you weren’t angry, it would probably make you laugh.

“You haven’t answered any of my messages.”

That earns you an awkward laugh. “I’ve, uh… been busy.”

You sigh. “Look, Gordon, if you’re not interested in me-”

“Not interested?” He looks at you like you’ve grown an extra head.

“-you just have to tell me that. I won’t hold it against you.”

“Woah,” he lets out another awkward laugh, “that's not- No! You’re cool. I’m definitely interested.” He isn’t looking you in the eyes at all anymore, and you deflate a little.

“Did I do something wrong?”

“No! No. I just… I don’t wanna get in the way.”

“In the way of what?”

“You and D’Acunto.”

You feel like everything stops for a minute, confused. “Gordon, you don’t even like Kevin.”

“No, I don’t.”

You scoff. “Gordon, me and Kevin aren’t together anymore.”

“No, I know you weren’t-”

“We aren’t. Still aren’t.”

You watch the gears in his brain whirr.

“Did you think I was going to take him back?”

You can see him wince. “Maybe.”

“Why?”

“Well, I know you guys were pretty… off and on to start with. When I left, you had, like, 20 messages from him.”

“You read my-”

“I didn’t read them!” He defends quickly. “Your desk just kept pinging.”

You sigh, rubbing your forehead and moving to sit on your couch. “Yes, Kevin was messaging me. He was going back and forth between calling me a cheater-”

“A what?”

“-and pleading with me.” The couch dips as Gordon takes a seat next to you. “I told him we were done. It’s over. I’d already wasted 10 years of my life waiting for him to show me some kind of concern or care. It took me, what, a few months to find friends who care about me more than Kevin does. I didn’t realize how low the bar was.”

He’s silent, just watching you like he doesn’t know what to say. 

You take your uniform jacket off, folding it over the back of the couch. “Kevin never even walked me back from a party. Granted, we all stay on a Union ship, it's generally safe,” you concede, “but you offered to walk me home just because my drink got spilled down my top.”

He flushes. “Well, that was-”

“-A setup, I know. But still. You were right. Kevin is a massive jerk. I liked hanging out with you. I was hoping we could do more of that, you know?”

There’s a few beats of silence before he shimmies his own jacket off, tossing it haphazardly over the back of the couch. “Okay.”

“I don’t wanna pressure you, I mean, I know it’s been a while since you’ve dated-”

“Who told you that?” He sounds fully embarrassed.

“Captain Mercer.” 

He’d come into the lab, in fact, urging you to give Gordon grace, just not too much.

“I’m here… unofficially,” The Captain started, taking a seat in one of the chairs in your office.

“Oh… kay.” You gave him a wary look. “Have I done something?”

“No! No. I just…” He looks uncomfortable, crossing his legs. “It’s about you and Gordon.”

You flush quickly, clearing your throat.

“Not anything serious! Just… he hasn’t had a girlfriend or anything in, like… a long time.”

“Why are you telling me this?” You tilt your head at him, curious.

“Just… asking you to give him a little time. Grace, even. Just not too much. He’s no good at this kind of thing.”

“Women?” tumbles from your mouth, unbidden, but thankfully, he just laughs as he stands.

“Yeah. It’s definitely good to give him a couple of days, but… he gets in his head a lot.” 

He’d headed for your office door. “I’m sure I’ll see you around, Lieutenant.”

He groans, putting his head in his hands. “Of course he did.”

“Your friends like to meddle.”

“Some of those people are your friends, too,” he points out, sighing as he raises his head.

You hum an acknowledgment, leaning into his side. “If it helps, it’s not like I’ve had a new relationship in a long time, either.”

You can feel him relax just a little, hands dropping from his face. “This is still mortifying.”

“Yeah, definitely.”

“I should kill him.”

“Murder is a little far,” you chuckle, leaning up to press a soft kiss to his scruffy cheek before patting his knee and moving to stand. “Come on. I booked some sim time to decompress, let's go together. I’ve got this really cool hack-and-slash sim based off a 21st-century video game we can do.”

He looks excited, which is a relief to you, quickly moving to follow. “Sounds like a plan. I love that kind of stuff.”

You grin, shaking your head. “I know. It’ll be our first date.”

His grin widens, and you have a feeling this will be the most fun first date you’ve been on… probably ever.

So, I finished it

and god, I feel hollowed out. I am emotionally exhausted. I cried so much that my fiance had to come down the hall to find out what why I was sniffling so much.

I just. Ooof.

Rune is so fucking strong. Not just in terms of power, but mentally. Emotionally. He survived something horrible. Something that fucked him up so bad, and he's still fighting those ghosts all the time. But he never lets it make him cruel to those who don't deserve it. It's sharpened him, but he still has so much softness. So much capacity for love and care. He's not going to take down every fucker who did that shit to him by stooping to their level, he's going to do it by being so much better than them. And he's not doing it alone.

I am so glad Addam knows everything now. I was not going to enjoy them having a relationship built on secrets. Even the ones Rune thought he had to keep. Addam knows the worst thing--the worst thing--and he stays and he cares and he wants to be there.

ALSO HAHAHAH WHAT'S UP WITH THE BOND GUYS???? IS THIS A THREE WAY TALLA SITUATION BECAUSE HI, HELLO, I AM HERE FOR IT?

Also fuck when the Tower grabbed Mayan to break the mindfuckery and was just like "Mine"?????????? HELLO????? I'm too sapphic to really be into the Tower, but uh. Whew.

But also god. Fuck. I knew the Tower wasn't going to make it out of this, but I am just gutted.

I have a few critiques, but that is how I roll when I read anything:

I really, really wish Rune and Brand had more conversations about their feelings. I get why they don't, but it feels a little like glossing over these huge issues sometimes. Rune and Addam were gone for 2 days, and Brand was in tears, and then it was just back to business. I think sometimes the character development suffers from the sheer amount of plot happening in these books, but they're still very, very good.

I rolled my eyes a little when Corbie manifested powers. Like, I get it. The Dawncreeks are a powerful family, and most scions have some power, but it's a little contrived that all these kids are mega powerful. Unless there's just something about that Sun blood that really juices kids up, I don't know.

Addam sometimes feels a little bit passive. I love the moments when he stands up to Brand and Rune and does his own thing, and I want more of those. I want him to stand on his own and not just be the thing Rune needs.

On a larger scale, I usually do not like to read books where sexual assault is the main 'origin story'. I think it's a tired plot device, and a lot of writers fall back on it as a quick way to add intensity to the narrative. This book felt a little bit edging into the misery porn territory for me, but it wasn't too egregious, I don't think. I trust the author to guide the readers and the characters through this in a way that feels satisfying and not like we're just milking Rune's trauma for the shock value of it all.

Over all, I loved it. I love this series. I am hooked and I will be there when the 4th book comes out, ready to devour it the way I devoured the first 3.

And Now, Back to Our Regularly Scheduled Programming

“Hi, Johnny, nice to see you.”

“Don, I have great news! Remember how you took Dina out to cheer her up a while ago?”

“Uh, yeah, of course…?”

“Well, turns out the reason she was so emotional is that she’s pregnant again! We just found out, so she didn’t even know yet when you went out.”

“Johnny, that’s great news! Brie and Quentin will be so excited, I bet.”

Dina’s mood, however, doesn’t seem to have improved much. She still barges in angrily despite not having a key to the house.

“Hi, Dina! Guess what happened at school today!”

“Sorry, I don’t have time, Johnny is here, right?”

“I thought so.”

Pregnancy does not agree with Dina.

Brie is doing her best not to let Dina’s cold attitude bother her.

She spends lots of time with Cora and tries not to think about the fact that she has barely met her brother Quentin, because Johnny always comes over. Brie never goes to visit her dad and Dina.

She is also keeping busy making friends with her classmates. This is Shawn Talla, son of Duane Talla and Darling Walsh.

I suspect she has a bit of a crush on Shawn.

Johnny also took her to Mt. Komorebi for some quality father/daughter time.

Johnny isn’t the greatest skier.

And neither is Brie, but at least they’re having fun.

Brie also gets to taste new and exciting food.

Her attitude is still not great, though. She is struggling with her feelings about her father’s family and acting out at home.

And on top of that, she no longer has daddy Don’s undivided attention since Cora arrived.

Still, Don does his best to treat the girls equally.

Diluc undoubtedly asked if you needed to go to a psychologist, to which you agreed after thinking about it for a while, This helped you control your emotions and Diluc was even aware of the sessions and how they made you feel. After all, just because he was a man busy with his work didn't mean he would neglect his partner.

diluc started looking for ways to make you feel good and mainly suggested that you go on trips together, Not to escape from feelings but to learn lessons together and so that you could finally try on the clothes you wanted so much.

You learned to improve your feelings, there are still times when your insecurity jumps out, after all there are many standards that had affected you throughout your life, But at least you know that your husband would be there to provide support as much as he can and maybe that's why you love him.

I am aware that you have actually hated your body several times when looking at yourself or when trying on clothes, but you should never let anyone criticize your body, as it does not belong to them, feel safe, I know it costs a lot and always remember to stay with those people who know how to value you and your beautiful body!

ok we met in? around 2021? like we met but we didn’t talk to each other. i remember i was surprised that she knew my name once when she asked me for help. in the 21-22 rowing season i guess i was around her a lot in groups but didn’t really talk to her. she was super quiet and i was also pretty quiet. i did take notice of her mostly bc she also followed ro ramdin on instagram and was quiet and mysterious

then in late 2022, my friend’s friend maurice decided he wanted to make her talk more so he just basically started talking at her and she responded and thank god for maurice tbh. i started being around her more in smaller group settings and talking to her. i found out she was super funny and also easily embarrassed

by 2023 we were friends. still mostly hung out in group settings. i started hanging out with her and one other friend, so a very small group. we texted a lot the three of us but i still wasn’t one on one with her that often since we were both awkward

with the third friend in our group becoming more busy, and planning to move, she and i ended up hanging out one on one a few times. also texting one on one. we got closer and then she came out to me and the other friend as trans. she and i got a lot closer after that talking about trans stuff

i gave her a bunch of my old dresses and that was kinda the Moment for me she was twirling around in one of my dresses and she hugged me and i was like ohhh shit we are not unpacking this right now but i think i would kill for this girl

then in like. mid-late june we were talking a lot. it came time for pride, me and her and talla went together. she and talla slept over. talla clocked real fast that i liked her. talla told me that she definitely liked me back. honestly without that i doubt i would’ve told her

then like a week later. last day of june i was over at her place. it was really late at night. it was like 1am and officially july. my best friends in the fagdyke groupchat were telling me to just tell her. which i did. for the first time ever! because i’m a chronic straight girl liker but i’m healing.

and then she was like oh i like you too and i could not believe her. until we kissed. and her cat meowed at us bc her cat hates gay people. and now we’re together. it hasn’t been that long but also she and i are just very similar i always feel like i’ve known her way longer than i have. she was my best friend for like 4 months and now my girlfriend for almost 1. that’s crazy

she told me that she realized she liked me when i told her she was pretty over text. which i had done intentionally and when i sent that text i had to put my phone down and breathe deeply. gay people are so dramatic

and even though she’s really shy in general even with other friends i feel like she’s opened up so much to me. she’s a complete different person from when i first met her. first of all she’s happier. transgenderism does that. she’s a lot more open and vulnerable. she’s affectionate. she verbalizes things better. also her hair has improved. i love my girlfriend

Since the older boys got quite a bit of attention with their own things, Hunter decided to take Moon Pie to the park which was exceptionally busy as most of the towns' children and teenagers decided to drop by. In the first hour of spring, Ophelia goes into labor! Wife Lanuola accompanies her to the hospital; Beatrix would have tagged along too, but policy only allows teens and older. Minato is their doctor once again and though it was a concern he wouldn't arrive on time (again) he's following close on Ophelia's heels; this is what a surgery is supposed to look like! After an easy labor, Ophelia gives birth to their second daughter: welcome to the world, baby Ruby!

The first order of business after bringing her home is to introduce her to big sisters Beatrix who's stoked to meet her; she can't wait until Ruby is old enough to play with. While out swimming, Bea tries to befriend a dolphin despite the constant glitches. Lanuola and Ophelia take turns trying to die of hysteria; I'm glad they're having a good time but I wish they'd give me a break! Working out was added to the Hummingbird Collective club activities so Lanuola could mentor fitness from home; Marcus Flex promptly takes that as an excuse to makes some dangerous decisions. You're far too old to be work out, sir! Somehow, the three of them survive their harrowing adventures.

Not long after being born, Ruby ages up into an infant and greets Ophelia with her very first smile. <3 After a phone offer, Ophelia jumped into the Style Influencer career and is looking forward to working from home so she can spend more time with baby Ruby. During the next meeting of the Hummingbird Collective, Marcus Flex passes away while chatting and painting with friends. He's survived by his only son Phoenix and a club full of friends who won't forget him.

Beatrix comes home from school an A student, completing her Aspiration to be a Whiz Kid; it's time to think about what she wants to work towards next. Baby Ruby is chugging away at her milestones, though she's creating a lot of glitches in the game every time she meets one. Bea hopes on her bike and ride all the way up the mountain to the neighbors' house to celebrate her accomplishments. Once there she pops down her kick stand to contemplate her life and decide it's time to enter a Picky Eater phase. Oh how far she's fallen from her infant days of eating anything put in front of her…

Ophelia takes Beatrix with her to meet Makoa's new baby: a son named Wayne. Since he was born at about the same time as Ruby, the two hope their youngest kids can become friends when they're older. Somewhere in the world, Duane Talla has passed away of Hysteria much like Lanuola keeps trying to do; there are now two empty spots in the club, still sitting vacant. Who will come to steal the milk from the fridge now and came their curb during club activities?

Easter starts bright and early with Lanuola baking up some sweet treats; unlike last year, the outdoor kitchen means they'll be able to make traditional treats for Easter. Do you really put chocolate in hot crossed buns, though? Lanuola, please check your recipe... Easter took a very long time to play because of infant-related glitches, but Beatrix managed to completes her second Aspiration (Mind and Body Aspiration) cementing her headstrong nature! With a day off of school, Bea also has the time to play some peek-a-boo with baby Ruby. After a long road, baby Ruby finally learns to sit up on her own! Now she can get to sampling that baby food menu.

Ruby tries her first food with mom Lanuola (papaya); she's not too sure about it. As a matter of fact, she's not sure about this whole solid food thing at all: Ruby has revealed she's a picky eater too, just like big sister Bea! This is slowly becoming a nightmare for Lanuola and Ophelia but not for me the simmer. u-u I just get to laugh at their plight. Tane Ngata & Alex Moyer continue to overstay their welcome; after eating all of the leftovers, Tane has the gall to climb into one of the beds to sleep. They're nearing a twenty-four hour stint on the lot and I still don't have options to send them home. Ruby gets to try her first baby food with mom Ophelia too: mashed mangoes that she was equally unsure about.

The family heads out so Ophelia can check the fashion pulse at the bar before settling in for a long evening at the library. While Ophelia hangs out in the infant room with Ruby, Beatrix & Lanuola have been working on her Character Values. The two have developed a supportive relationship; Bea has even declared Lanuola her favorite! Back at home, Lanuola and Ophelia are finally able to figure out some foods she likes: rice porridge, and yogurt, too. This is a plain foods kind of baby. Lanuola decides that life is so swell that's she's a Cheerful Sim now. After knocking out most of her milestones, Ruby masters the art of pulling herself up to stand. With her new fine motor finesse, she gets to try her first finger food with mom Ophelia (banana slices) and she loves them!

And... oh wait, what's that? Ophelia's going into labor?

Chapter 8

They Grow Up So Fast

Winter is coming to an end, but first we have two big parties to attend.

First up, it’s the new year! Due to the lack of chairs, though, Dina just goes straight to drinking, apparently.

Don pulls Dina aside to check on her while Alex teaches Jodi to dance.

“So, Dina… you look… well.”

“Thanks, Don… Honestly, I feel better than I have in a long time. I love Quentin and Jodi, but I don’t think the stress of being pregnant was good for me.”

Johnny just seems so happy to see his two families get along.

“SUSHUBIII!”

What, you don’t celebrate the new year by impaling your husband? Weirdo.

The new year starts with a second party, though.

Brie is growing up! This time, the party is being held at Johnny and Dina’s house, which is across the street.

Brie asked specifically for a unicorn cake.

Happy birthday, Brielle!

Brie is definitely Johnny’s daughter, no doubt about it.

Don has no time for cake, he’s too busy keeping an eye on the younger kids.

Cora is mostly excited about the fact that there is a dog, Lady. I swear Quentin and Jodi are here as well, but they somehow kept avoiding the photos. You can just barely spot Jodi behind Don’s chair, and Quentin is playing outside.

For her birthday, Brie got a full-size violin to replace her old one. She wants to become a musician. Definitely Johnny’s kid.

Brie’s best friend, Shawn Talla, has also grown up.

They’re adorable together, so I think it’s time to move things along. After all, Brie is not the heir and can live whatever life she wants.

They head to Brie’s room for homework and privacy.

Brie’s first kiss. They’re not official yet, but this is a good start.

Alex is constantly upgrading things. With four people and a mischievous cat in the house, things break often and get dirty constantly. But it’s all fine, we need to max that handiness.

We still love Noodles no matter what, though. Especially Cora, whose main interests in life seems to be space and cats.

When she’s not playing with Noodles, she’s either doing homework, playing chess, or pretending to be an astronaut.

Alex is also working on her mischief by trolling the forums daily.

“Someone os wrong on the internet and I need to teach them a lesson!”

“I rickrolled them. Classic. That’ll teach them!”

Episode 3 - Heart of Combat

Robbie cast a glance at the two poor souls who had crossed her path. He imagined they were terrible men as that usually was the type of men Silver preyed upon. It was the type of person Silver preyed upon period. He understood why. She had been a victim all of her life and now she had the power to victimize and it was a power, he was finding, that she exercised a little too often. At first, he thought it adorable, he wondered if she saw herself as a vigilante, ridding the world of men who took without asking. Men, Robbie thought, more monstrous than he. He merely took someone's blood but those kind of men took a lot more than that.

He shook his head, pointing to the couch where he wanted Silver seated so that he could have this conversation with her all over again.

"Silver," he begins, turning off her music and sitting across from her. She was a mess, a beautiful one, his beautiful mess, but a mess all the same. "This cannot continue."

"Master, no one will know and-"

"There's a murderer on the loose, first of all, and the more disappearances there are the louder the alarm gets."

It wasn't the police Robbie feared, oh no, he wouldn't waste a second thinking of them as a threat. It was another organization he worried about and more specifically, a hunter he admittedly feared. One whose name he didn't even dare speak into existence.

"The alarm?" Silver asked, still new to this, like many of his girls. "You invited me here and now you have to deal with the consequences," she teased, as if this were a game.

"I'll send you back to the club and lock you back into your cage," he offered smoothly and confidently. Letting her know that he was not one to test. "I did bring you into the city but it wasn't for you to drain the local populace."

"Awww..." she playfully whined.

"You're charming, Silver. You're a magnet that can seemingly find an ally in anyone."

"This is true!" She perks up at the compliment. "You have a target, then? A politician? A wealthy business owner? A drug lord? OH! A visiting rockstar-"

"Nope, a police officer. Talla," her name alone brought a smile to his face. She would fit in so well with the rest of his collection. "Befriend her, keep an eye on her, keep her close."

"My Master, it shall be done!"

While his own superior had warned him of turning Talla he would start to work on acquiring her in his own way...

NVIDIA’s Robotics Expansion Exploits AI

NVIDIA’s AI Robotics and Generative AI

Cloud-native APIs and microservices, together with potent generative AI models, are advancing to the edge.

Almost every business is benefiting from the strength of transformer models and huge language models thanks to generative AI. Defect detection, real-time asset tracking, autonomous planning and navigation, human-robot interactions, and other areas that impact on robotics and logistics systems are now included in that reach.

On the NVIDIA Jetson platform for edge AI and robotics, NVIDIA today announced significant expansions to two frameworks: the NVIDIA Isaac ROS robotics framework has gone generally available, and the NVIDIA Metropolis extension on Jetson will follow.

NVIDIA has also developed a Jetson Generative AI Lab for developers to work with the most recent open-source generative AI models in order to hasten the creation and deployment of AI applications at the edge.

NVIDIA AI and the Jetson platform have been adopted by more than 1.2 million developers and over 10,000 clients, including Amazon Web Services, Cisco, John Deere, Medtronic, Pepsi, and Siemens.

Longer development cycles make it difficult for developers to create AI applications for the edge since the AI environment is continuously changing to handle scenarios that are getting more complex. It takes time and expertise to reprogramme robotics and AI systems on the go to adapt to shifting surroundings, production lines, and client automation demands.

To make the creation, deployment, and administration of AI at the edge simpler, generative AI delivers zero-shot learning, which enables a model to recognize things explicitly not seen previously in training.

AI Landscape Transformation

The simplicity of usage is significantly enhanced by generative AI since it can comprehend human language commands to modify models. These AI models outperform conventional convolutional neural network-based models because they are more adaptable in terms of detecting, segmenting, tracking, searching, and even reprogramming.

ABI Research estimates that by 2033, generative AI will increase manufacturing operations’ global revenue by $10.5 billion.

According to Deepu Talla, vice president of embedded and edge computing at NVIDIA, “Generative AI will significantly accelerate deployments of AI at the edge with better generalization, ease of use, and higher accuracy than previously possible.” The strength of transformer models and generative AI, along with the largest-ever software extension of our Metropolis and Isaac frameworks on Jetson, answers this demand.

Creating at the Edge of Generative AI

Developers can utilize the Jetson Generative AI Lab’s optimized tools and tutorials to deploy open-source LLMs, diffusion models to create stunning interactive images, vision language models (VLMs), and vision transformers (ViTs), which integrate vision AI and natural language processing to provide a thorough understanding of the scene.

The NVIDIA TAO Toolkit allows developers to construct accurate and effective AI models for edge applications. To optimize vision AI models, such as ViT and vision fundamental models, TAO offers a low-code interface. To construct extremely accurate vision AI models with very minimal data, they can also adapt and improve open-source models like OpenCLIP or fundamental models like NVIDIA NV-DINOv2. Additionally, a new transformer-based defect inspection model called VisualChangeNet is now part of TAO.

Using the Isaac and New Metropolis Frameworks

Enterprises may more easily and affordably adopt cutting-edge, vision AI-enabled solutions to solve pressing operational efficiency and safety issues thanks to NVIDIA Metropolis. For developers to create complicated vision-based apps fast, the platform offers a collection of strong APIs and microservices.

NVIDIA Metropolis developer tools are being used by more than 1,000 businesses, including BMW Group, Pepsico, Kroger, Tyson Foods, Infosys, and Siemens, to tackle operational, Internet of Things, and sensor processing concerns using vision AI, and the adoption rate is accelerating. By individuals wishing to develop vision AI applications, the tools have already been downloaded more than one million times.

By the end of the year, an enhanced set of Metropolis APIs and microservices on NVIDIA Jetson will be accessible, enabling developers to design and deploy scaled vision AI applications more rapidly.

The NVIDIA Isaac platform is used by hundreds of clients to create high-performance robotics solutions for a variety of industries, including agricultural, warehouse automation, last-mile delivery, and service robots.

With updated versions of the Isaac ROS and Isaac Sim software, NVIDIA made significant advancements to perception and simulation capabilities at ROSCon 2023. Isaac ROS, which is based on the widely used open-source Robot Operating System (ROS), adds awareness to automation by providing moving objects eyes and hearing. Robotics developers may quickly create robotics systems specifically suited for a wide range of applications by utilizing the capability of GPU-accelerated GEMs, such as visual odometry, depth perception, 3D scene reconstruction, localization, and planning.

Since the most recent Isaac ROS 2.0 version is now generally accessible, developers may now use Jetson to design and commercialize high-performance robotics products.

According to Geoff Biggs, CTO of the Open Source Robotics Foundation, “ROS continues to grow and evolve to provide open-source software for the entire robotics community.” This release’s introduction of NVIDIA’s new prebuilt ROS 2 packages, which make ROS 2 easily accessible to the sizable NVIDIA Jetson development community, will hasten this expansion.

Providing fresh examples of AI workflows

A production-ready AI solution must be created by optimizing the creation and training of AI models that are suited to certain use cases, putting strong security measures on the platform, coordinating the application, managing fleets, and more.
