elijah was born in norway in 977, the second son of mikael and esther. in his youth his family relocated briefly to iceland before continuing on their trek to vinland, a settlement in modern day canada. it's there that the rest of his siblings were born. after the death of his youngest sibling henrik, his mother esther found a way to contact the very first vampire maya dragonslayer. she wanted to make sure her children could never die, but even vampires can die — unless you're an original one. so with her help esther created a new spell that would make a new kind of vampire, making them originals.

after their creation, elijah became the de facto leader of his siblings, despite his older brother finn being around for another hundred years before he was staked for 900. within north america the first place they ended up for a couple years was modern day mystic falls. shortly after they left and went to europe, where they run from their father for hundreds of years. the place they stay the longest is new orleans, though they had to leave in the early 1900s to escape their father yet again.

he returns to mystic falls after learning from his sister rebekah that elena gilbert, a girl in the neighbouring town fell's church, is connected to the spell that will break klaus' hybrid curse. elijah returns to mystic falls to put an end to it, though he fails and klaus' curse is broken. he spends some time daggered before being saved by damon salvatore of all people and returns to his goal of trying to stop his brother after he creates a hybrid army. then his mother returns and there's a lot happening there. finally, klaus learns of someone in new orleans trying to plot against him so elijah follows shortly after.

elijah didn't originally intend on sticking around in new orleans, but after learning about hayley marshall and her baby — klaus' baby — he decides to stay and try to piece his family back together. while in new orleans he meets a vampire hunter that he later learns is an agent from circle daybreak. throughout their encounters they learn, after touching, that they are soulmates and his priorities change instantly: he needs to protect his family but now he has to protect rashel. he goes out of his way to keep her safe, causing his family to ask questions.

rashel being in his life complicates things, but she manages to stay alive through all of it. after they defeat his mother (again) and his aunt dahlia, they're forced to deal with the first three vampires he and his siblings changed. once lucien, tristan, and aurora are dealt with elijah decides to leave new orleans, following rashel to new york city.

(damon coincidentally turns up whenever live musics playing, eventually says something like “the food at this restaurant is crappy, i just come to watch you play/sing.”) their dynamic is very “i always tease you because that’s just our thing we tease each other but for some reason you snapped at me and are you okay? what’s wrong?” and their friendship began one day when damon was all “I took a liking to you the second you tried to bullshit your way through your forgotten motivational speech assignment in class by just reciting the lyrics to 'Circle of Life’ from the Lion King and seeing how long you could get away with it.” and enzo’s just “yeah. got an a for it, too.”

- late at night when enzo can’t sleep he throws pebbles at damon’s window and they go sit on the rooftop, hanging out, sharing a joint and secret smiles while enzo spouts all this deep philosophical bullshit he got out of whichever novel damon’s lent him lately, and damon just listens, commenting here and there, until they eventually fall asleep with their legs tangled and bodies pressed together.

... I saw a tag saying you reject the mikaelson surname and even though I only have passing internet knowledge of the vampire diaries I can't help being curious why

Mainly that I find it to be such a lazy attempt to make the Originals have a backstory that made sense.

The Originals are Vikings from Norway, a country located in Eastern Europe if I've understood TVD correctly, who went to live in North-West America. Their names are Michael, Esther, Freyja, Finn, Elijah, Niklaus, Rebekah, Kol, and Henrik.

Michael, Esther, Elijah, Rebekah, and Niklaus are each very foreign names, and what's more they're very Jewish and/or Christian. They were born in the late 10th century, making them predate the Christening of Norway by just a bit. These names are also very anglified, in Norwegian Michael is Mikkel.

Finn's name is Norse, so good on you, CW. Too bad the name means "Sàmi person", the sàmi being an ethnic group in the North.

Henrik, kudos that they didn't spell it Henry, but... still not a Norwegian name, fellas.

Freyja is actually a Norse name, but she does not get a pass because she stayed unnamed until several seasons after they had decided to make the Originals Vikings.

So, the names never made sense.

Then, they decided to slap some Viking aesthetic onto these people, and give them the surname "Michaelson", because Vikings used patronymic surnames.

This led to the interesting decision to have Rebekah and Freyja, who are women, be called "Michael's son" as well. Michaelsdottir would have been... still not great because what the hell even is this family, but it would have been correct.

Even more baffling is the decision to have Michael's wife Esther be called Michaelson as well. Alright, show.

Then there's the characterization of it all. Michael turned out to not be Klaus' father at all, and Klaus framed him for murdering their mother. Michael spent the next millennium chasing his children across the globe to murder Klaus. He was a terror to them, the Terminator never letting them be at peace because if they ever let him find them their brother would be murdered.

Why, exactly, do they all, Klaus included, bear his name?

I just can't take that name seriously, and so I don't use it.

After the death of her brothers, Rebekah found it extremely difficult to cope and move on. Nik and Elijah were both extremely important to her, pretty much being her rocks despite their complicated relationships. It took months before she was ready to leave New Orleans again, traveling around the world once more to take her mind off things, find her own happiness, and live to the fullest before she would take the cure. She spent that time to learn what it would be like to be human, remembering and re-learning through observation. It was a struggle whenever she would run into old enemies every now and then. The constant back and forth from being a vampire and trying to be human turning out to be more difficult that anticipated. 

A few years later, Rebekah has decided to return to mystic falls and currently lives in their mansion there. She now knows to focus on her happiness more than anything. She has also formed stronger connections with others, having found family in them now as well. Her loyalty will still always lie with her family, but safe to say she takes others into consideration more now.

With the return of her loved ones, Rebekah feels slightly worried that history will repeat and her happiness will be taken away from her again. But on the other hand, there is no chance that she will allow her family to be separated again. Thus, she’s hell bent on finding ways to get them out of the necromancer’s control. Always and forever is still deeply ingrained in her mind and heart. So now that they’re back, she will see to it that it happens. She’s really just seeing it as them being separated yet again for a long period of time and only reuniting now.

IMPORTANT NOTES:

Rebekah is currently single. She broke up with Marcel around a year after her brothers died because she realized that wanted to be on her own for the first time. 

She traveled around the world and settled down in Mystic Falls around two years ago because their home in New Orleans reminded her too much of her brothers.

She had plans to take the cure and have a child, but those plans have been put on hold indefinitely until she figures out this situation with the Necromancer and how to free her loved ones from him.

basically, kol is pretty much canon. all things from all three of the tvd universe shows i am keeping for him. only thing is a small addition to it, not long ago a vampire visited his home with davina in san francisco and threatened her life. kol being kol, he couldn’t let that stand and followed them back to their home country of greece. this vampire was an old enemy of his so he slaughtered the entire village in front of the vampire, starting with randoms while he held the loved ones of said vampire and the vampire captive. once done with that, one by one he picked off the loved ones and then finally the vampire himself. however, he was hexed before he got away and still has yet to learn what the hex is going to do. all he knows is that it will be slow acting and come up when he least expects.

WHAT  INSPIRED  YOU  TO  TAKE  ON  THIS  MUSE :  originally it was because my friend and i were super invested into halemore based on our oc’s with colton and tyler’s fc’s, but i started branching out and found that it was more his development i was attracted to rather than a ship, which now he has about a million of. 

WHAT  ARE  YOUR  FAVORITE  ASPECTS  OF  YOUR  CURRENT  MUSE :   i’m probably bias but i love everything about him. that’s not to say i don’t acknowledge his faults, because i do, he has a lot of them, but it makes him so utterly human and relatable when he does make mistakes, because despite thinking he’s perfect, no one is and it’s nice to have that come into play sometimes.

WHAT’S  YOUR  BIGGEST  INSPIRATION  WHEN  IT  COMES  TO  WRITING :  just interesting plots, really. i love threads that are so out there and especially with a character like jackson who wasn’t given all the screen time he deserved to further develop his character. playing him now allows me to do that and while it may not be canon, it still feels pretty accurate. i’ve been playing him for almost 2 years now so i like to think i could do him proud :’)

FAVORITE  TYPES  OF  THREADS :    dramaaa! i find it keeps things interesting and gives more motivation to write. scenes that are really not expected, you know, so anything that causes that *oh shit* moment but you’re so eager to keep typing to see where it goes. so really whatever causes me to get giggles and/or gasps, the real stuff lmao

BIGGEST  STRUGGLE  IN  REGARDS  TO  YOUR  CURRENT  MUSE :  getting him out there, i guess? i never know whether to play him from high school or having come back from london or just never having gone there at all. personality wise and stuff i think i’ve got covered, so really it’s just setting that kicks me in the ass.
