former colleague (who i sincerely like) just got a job that fits like a glove to his skill set and while i am really really happy for him—and moreover do not want his job—
i have never been more seethingly envious of a person in my life
#it’s been a tough RSD day.#i take a little consolation in the fact that it took this guy a stupid amount of time and also a random ad to find this job#but like. none of mine build to anything either.#not to law or academia or ANYTHING. no portfolio. no references.#i keep trying shit and it doesn’t fucking stick.#…i need to rewatch EEAAO.#i’m getting too deep in my good-for-nothing existential-dread era.

non-sims interests ✧.*
thank you for the tag @vampwan !!
anime - i looooove anime so much, i started watching it in 7th grade and never looked back!
my favs are haikyu!! (forever my #1), jjk, mitchiko and hatchin, death note and madoka magica just to name a few!
other games
some other games i enjoy outside of the sims are valorant, hades, omori, oxenfree 2 and stardew valley!
watching stuff with my friends / watching them play stuff - my friends and i enjoy watching a lot of movies and shows together and often times they'll stream games to me as well!
some medias i've indulged in with friends include the nonary games (currently on vlr!), sailor moon, waitress: the musical (and yes i DID cry 5 times while we watched), oxenfree (my bff is how i got into oxenfree to begin with :3) and the quarry!
watching youtube - yes i know it's kinda lame to include this in here but i wanna take this as an excuse to talk about some of my favorite content creators :p
i usually only have youtube on in the background while i game but some youtubers i've been enjoying actually sitting down and watching are deykxn / dey (PLEASEEEE go watch him he is the funniest person on earth), kubz scouts (been watching him for YEARSSSS), literally any dropout content (i need me a subscription BADDDD), mythical kitchen (currently only watching last meals but i DO wanna branch out into their other content as well!) and last but not least my favorite for literal years and years, neecxle! (another one i cannot recommend enough)
lastly i'll just do a quickfire of some random medias i've been obsessed with for years but i didn't wanna clog up the above categories with a ton of shit so here we go!!!
percy jackson, the outsiders (i need to do a reread/rewatch bc i haven't interacted with it since 8th grade and i wanna get a refresher), maze runner, eeaao, httyd (i've only seen the first 2 movies LOL i need to interact with it more), given (just saw the 3rd movie the other day!! it was peak as to be expected), clue (please go watch this dumbass movie i love it so bad) and coraline (my favorite movie since childhood, i adore it so much)
ANYWAY so sorry i rambled on for twenty million years :p
thank you again for the tag!! | divider by @ enchanthings-a
tagging ✧.* @birdietrait @alxandergoth @butteredfrogs @fieldoffae @plumbluck @plumdale @evilgoof
and ofc don't feel pressured to participate if you don't wanna!! <3

I’ve been rewatching The Good Place and Everything Everywhere All At Once, and it’s crazy the fall-off that happens solely due to the political climate.
Reminds me honest to god of Hamilton’s fall-off from the Obama era to the Trump one. CJ the X did a really good video essay on it, but Hamilton went from progressive for trying to reinclude black American voices in the founding myth of America to extremely cringe for having black Americans play rapping slavemasters.
That optimistic willingness to hear the progress in our Founding Myth elevating black voices when we had our first black president became tone deafness when we next elected the racist who had openly attacked him on Twitter.
And when I watch The Good Place’s rehabilitation of a selfish asshole like Eleanor Shellstrop or watch Waymond from EEAAO beg everyone to choose kindness during times of extreme strife, I just hear tone deafness. I cringe like I’m hearing rapping slavemasters. I can still appreciate the artistry and talent of the writing, but it’s like it’s been shifted 6 inches to the right, and now everything feels off.
I just, no longer believe you can convince shitty people to change for the better. Impassioned speeches, heartfelt conversations, calm logic, objective reality? No no no no.
I guess that’s not quite right. What I really believe is that while you can convince these people to change, it’s only possible in extreme conditions, like in those fictional stories. Much like Hamilton, they’re still impeccably well-written, so I still find the stories quite believable.
Eleanor Shellstrop only manages to accept that she needs to change when faced with irrefutable proof that she’s bad with no way to justify her actions AND that she’s in immediate danger if she doesn’t change.
Evelyn only manages see Waymond’s worldview by literally experiencing billions of different lifetimes. Empathy on crack.
It’s just that the reason these stories are believable is because they’ve set up these wonderful fictional conceits. An objective heaven telling you you’re wrong or sci-fi multiversal jumping to walk you in another person’s shoes. But these don’t exist in real life! I’ve seen the way people willingly turn against working on themselves in favor of the crueler option, despite the way that makes everything worse EVERY time. You can tell someone they’re wrong in every single way possible, and they’ll disagree with you anyway just to spite you. You can see someone finally experience some of the pain they’ve put you through, and they’d still manage to scapegoat you!
So when I rewatched these, the catharsis was no longer seeing real life development through fictional means. The catharsis became seeing development PERIOD because the idea of “someone changing” itself feels fictional.
Those medias were very much students of absurdism, and absurdism was a response to nihilism, which was zeitgeisty in the early 2010s due to the popularization of the internet. The nihilism of a liveleak internet gave way to edge y works like Rick and Morty, where the chaos of the multiverse is a great representation of the chaos we felt on the internet. Gore and sex jokes galore. The multiverse of EEAAO, then, is exactly the absurdist response to Rick and Morty that you’d expect.
But I guess what we haven’t gotten around to realizing is that the internet isn’t random chaos like the multiverse. The internet isn’t meaningless and irrational the way existentialism defines the universe—the internet has been actively led bred to incubate hate. Quite literally, algorithms on YouTube or Facebook encourage things that make you get angry/fearful to go viral because it feeds engagement. Misinformation is better for engagement because it’s not limited by what’s true, only by how best to feed engagement.
Tech oligarch Zuckerberg literally LED TO A GENOCIDE of the Rohingya people because his platform didn’t moderate hate speech in languages other than English, and now he’s literally announced getting rid of moderation on Facebook to follow Musk’s Twitter’s footsteps.
I guess what I’m trying to say is that the internet has created an environment that makes it impossible for people to change and grow. Some people say that celebrities’ maturity level is frozen at the point they got famous, and I’d say the internet brought the ability to be a celebrity down to the average person, and now none of us are growing as people. And the hard objective wall we used to use to know right from wrong and fact from misinformation (the stuff we needed in order to be able to grow and change) wasn’t killed by an irrational universe of knowledge at our fingertips, it was intentionally killed by MALICIOUS MEN MOTIVATED BY PROFIT.
So yeah, any ideas of “why isn’t the left converting young men from the alt-right pipeline?” seems ABSURD from this lens. GIRL THE ALT-RIGHT PIPELINE EXISTING ITSELF ANSWERS YOUR QUESTION. This is no longer a time for trying to convert people, parable of the sower type shit!!!!!
#metas#the good place#everything everywhere all at once#eeaao#hamilton musical#analysis#initially put across the spiderverse in the same category as EEAAO but it might be doing its own thing and might be#a great response to what this post is talking about. we’ll see w movie 3

rewatched EEAAO tonight and had a flash of insight on a homestuck Striders au feat. Dave as Joy, a depressed minor chaos-god given the ability to travel to any universe's version of himself's consciousness after Bro pushed him until his mind broke. Poor Dirk living his most failcore life, basically a basement goblin dying under the crushing weight of his mental health issues while his little brother [I'm thinking just a few years younger] Dave is giving up on having any kind of relationship with him-
only it's not his Dave, one day. It's some other universe's Dave screaming "How could you do this to me," and because it's Dirk he takes all that blame on himself, and it takes Roxy and co beating him over the head with "having the capability to be an abuser does not make you an abuser" to actually try and save this version of his brother
I like thinking about the way the two narratives would play off eachother- I don't want a 1:1 movie AU. The Striders' arc of recognizing abuse + Dirk needing to be told he's not responsible for his splinters' actions would naturally fill in where the movie didn't really dig into Alpha Evelyn's abusive actions. It'd be less about nihilism and I think more depressed Dave talking about "you know what's funny? There's so many universes where I die by your hands," maybe searching for a version of Dirk that actually loves him.
#sorry for illegibility I'm barely conscious#homestuck#eeaao#striders#dave strider#dirk strider#mine#tw abuse

Sorry if this has been asked before but what is one of your favorite films + why? It doesn’t need to be an objectively good film either just one you could watch over and over again
Hmm, I've got a few! All for different contexts and genres as I can't pick one definitive "favorite".
Everything Everywhere All At Once is definitely a new favorite. It's probably one of the only newer films that I've happily sat through multiple times, I find a lot of movies these days don't have that kind of rewatchability but EEAAO absolutely does with how well crafted it is.
Spirited Away is one of my favorite animated films, it's a true masterclass of animation and characterization. Into the Spiderverse also falls into that category for me.
Requiem for a Dream is a favorite, but not one that I rewatch as often. I think I've only ever watched it twice and both times I've had to take a shower afterwards LMAO IDK though I've developed a pretty strong stomach since the last time I watched it so might not be so bad now.
An objectively awful film that I still love is Hancock. IDK I think it was just ahead of its time, it did something back then that we see plenty of nowadays but it doesn't get near enough credit. The movie still wasn't without its issues,
"So bad that it's good" favorite is Twilight. I rewatch those films at least once a year. They're awful. I love them.
And then my personal "I just think it's neat" favorite film is Chronicle. Basically scratches that itch for chaotic evil superheroes but done in a found footage format.
Sorry, can't pick just one, it's too hard LMAO

Darling Ditty, I hope you’re well. Would you ever write Jobu Tupaki? Being an interdimensional supervillain with a cult following has got to get her many ladies, no? Hope your day/week is great, and all the best! 💚
Hello sweetheart 🥰 I haven't watched EEAAO since it was out in cinemas so I would need to do quite a bit of rewatching to get the character voice down which I can't afford to do rn but the future is always bright 😉 xx

Here is my MAIN BLOG: @ohohliviuh
For anyone that does not give a toss to check out the main (you’re fake for that): my name is Raé, born 1999, from the US, she/her/hers, I’ve got a big dog (dogo argentino), I’m learning Italian, and I’m insufferable as fuck (given).
Anyways here’s this:
bold=immoral, feral, poetic, selfish feelings about this, my brain is being consumed by this nonsensical fungus, i would give myself a lobotomy and pick the rotted matter that consists of this from my skull and put it into the ground around me so that i can plant it and be able to consume more of it.
italic=i love this, im not normal about it, this is the stuff i could vibrate from happiness over to the point i’d be in someone’s end table and probably need to be charged after talking about it
regular=normal feelings. i can probably talk about this in public to another person and be okay.

Year in Review
This year I wrote two LARPs, went on more than a few road trips, started Lexapro, went to one con, and otherwise did not accomplish a lot that can be measured, except for watching a truly absurd number of movies. Fortunately Letterboxd makes it a lot easier to record that.
By my count, I watched 469 movies this year. This does not count rewatches. When this counts television, it is only for an entire series counting as one movie. Many of the movies - basically anything 1.5 stars or less - I did not finish because they weren’t worth my time.
Full movie list here, because it's too large to fit into a Tumblr post.
I would say none of the movies I watched this year were truly great, S-tier movies, compared to last year which had two (EEAAO, and Vengeance.) However, I found this year had a good variety of movies at the A-tier below that (some of which I still need to see.)
But this makes choosing “the best” difficult. Instead I will hand out awards:
The “Hold a Gun to my Head and Threaten Cronenberg Style Violence on Me to Pick 2023’s Best” Award goes to Infinity Pool, by Brendan Cronenberg.
The Studio Ghibli Award for “I Meant to See This but my Theater Stopped Showing It” Award goes to How Do You Live AKA the Boy and the Heron.
The “I Can’t Believe Three Contenders for Best Movie of the Year Were All Released on the Same Day” award goes to Oppenheimer, Barbie, and They Cloned Tyrone.
The “Dogtooth” Award for Yorgos Lanthimos Sure Does Like Fucked Up Sexuality goes to Poor Things. Also a recipient of the “Cruella award for Damn Emma Stone is Fine” Award.
The Don Glover Award for “Black Made Movie that Manages to Hugely Offend the Identity-Left” goes to Antebellum.
The Most French Award goes to Holy Motors.
The First And Only Time Directing Awards are split. The “I Really Want to Be Nicholas Refn and Everyone Hated It” Award goes to Lost River by Ryan Gosling. The “If You All Liked It So Much Why Hasn’t Anyone Hired Me to Make Another Movie” Award goes to Emma. 2020 by Autumn de Wilde. (Though Don Jon by JGL is a runner up.)
The Alice Krige “Borg Queen, Controlling Mother of a Cult Leader, Vengeful Hollywood Witch - What Can’t She do?” Award goes to She Will.
The Brit Marling “Creates a Cult Following Also a Cult” Award goes to Broadcast Signal Intrusion, by Jacob Gentry.
And finally, the Zack Snyder “Everyone Hates This but C’mon It is Clearly Amazing Camp” Award goes to Saltburn, by Emerald Fenell.

SCREAMING OKAY. SO
first of all the BUDDIE AND MAGIC CURSES AU ??? the richard siken quote and the concept of grief and being a ghost ???? a deadly combination if you ask me words arent enough to express how insane this makes me feel !!!!!
also eddie/ana bffs is what the world NEEDS. im seeing the romcom so clearly in my head . tired wingman ana flores and pathetic eddie diaz i loooove you
(inhales) THE EVERYTHING EVERYWHERE BUDDIE AU ??? DIFFERENT ITERATIONS OF EDDIE ??? the potential of loving him in every other universe too ??? and the buckley family angst to top it all off ??? i will be rotating this in my brain for the rest of the day
the orpheus/eurydice au is absolutely what this world needs too we need more greek myth buddie aus!!!
i feel like the gilmore girls au would be sooo cozy (like the show) i'd be so down to read that
anyways sorry for screaming in your asks but it will happen again i love your MIND
JAMIE HI HELLO !!!!!!!!!!! 💜💜💜💜💜 i love screaming and will enable it always
i think i might do what's in a name? first because i have hoarded soooo many epigraphs for it and it's driving me insane too? i want to live in richard siken's mind. the magical realism of it all makes me wiggle in excitement. this needs a lot of planning and plotting for maximum insanity and spooky vibes
the eddie&ana bffs shenanigans might be something i write in between bouts of drainage from all the grief and heaviness of magic curses au it makes me giggle just thinking about the suffering ana has to go through to get eddie to kiss buck already hehehehe
everything everywhere buddie makes my heart IMPLODEEEE omgggggggg this one needs a lot of gathering and prayers because i might lose my mind rewatching EEAaO and marvel's what if to get myself ready
that is SO RIGHT we do need more buddie mythology au's in this fandom!
gilmore girls au would just be pure wholesome fun, maybe a holiday special of just a dip into a california small town??
NEVER APOLOGIZE FOR SCREAMING i am right there with you and i can't wait for your next fic!
