"why do you talk about something awful so much" it has surprised me quite a bit as I've gotten older but the 2000s-2010s SA culture has only become more relevant to current events and media as time goes on, i assume from the natural watershed effects from people aging into their 30s and making media properties that go on to become incredibly influential. I was never a big poster there, I was a lurker 99% of the time and had zero influence on the site, so it's really not personal for me except for stuff like Dropsy, since I was there for the original thread. the SA millennials started popping up in noticeable ways as early as 30 Rock (recall the "lemon party" recurring joke for example) and as the younger members age into their prime output years we're just going to keep seeing more of it.

How do you make art for yourself snd not for likes? I like sharing what I make because Im proud of it, but when it consistently gets 0-3 likes it kinda makes me second guess myself

i do it by having pushed the social media aspect as far back on my list of reasons of why i make art by reminding myself of how hard it sucks and how much better all the other reasons to make art are. best tip is be in love with ur own art. thats number 1 tip be in love love love with it. also make art with ur friends and for ur friends and care 100x about what they think than someone random. heres some reasons for why likes suck: like money and most any other accruable type of wealth, social media engagement fortune has that no end goal-way to it.- u wont ever have enough. there is allllllwayyys more people with higher numbers to compare urself to, that spells demons, theres demons in that. engagement and likes is also just a bad measure of how good something is in a true "art" sense. go to any sites art explore page and look at the most vapid frontpage art shit there. good stuff among it but a lot of it is kind of evil to me and feels more like a design excercise in engineering soemthing that people will click like button on but not something that is actually artistically "better" than most other things. vague vibes type example sorry. its a measure of how well u can play the social media game.

I dont know if you ended up talking to them but I just saw a 4h hours old viral/frontpage eldertubbies post on imgur by the plushie person which had no credit to you that I could see. Not sure if tumblr would let me send a link in an ask, but its fairly high up there. . . (i also tried to see if thered been any updates on your end since you said youd talk to the person, but tumblr search function isnt cooperating, because it never does. But I figured this might be interesting for you to know. )

He said he was a bit inspired by the artwork that Reddit screencapped, but not by me or my writing. and that his intellectual work has been so original and independent, and he’s done so much of his own world building, that he now entirely owns the concept and it is separate and independent of work made on tumblr. Also, he was the one approached by Makeship.

Here’s the designs that he saw. I’ve been wondering if the artists might want to know that their designs may have inspired someone so much that he owns them now

Otherwise I don’t really have much of an idea, as an art project I’m amused by the idea of creating an open-access plushie plan and insisting it belongs to the world: or creating intricate haunting one-off figures of natural materials, and sharing them in some kind of exhibition with the story of their discovery and subsequent exploitation. The STORY of it. Those both strike me as deeply amusing artistic responses.

However, it must be said that I’m a science person with a full time job, not an artist whose bread has been stolen. Also, it’s actually really hard to unpick how wrong the guy IS to do this. I asked for advice here and on Twitter and have largely heard back that it FEELS unethical but also it doesn’t FEEL like anyone can do much.

Day 150: Tuesday May 30, 2017 - “Center News”

Cant ever do anything normal, world travel no exception.  Here I go on my first global run and find myself right in the middle of some tense international news - didn’t see that coming, but here we are with one headline just to the South and the other just to the North and me a big 6′4″ shining stand out smiley tourist.  Now it seems like business as usual for most around here and thats comforting, but I gotta be honest - its not business as usual for me knowing that I stand out and knowing that theres a feeling things can change here in snap.  Will I be fine?  Of course.  Do I want to get out of here? Nah.  I can roll with whatever comes - but it makes me a little uneasy.  Interesting times to be in Southeast Asia for the first time seeing it right there on the frontpage. But I got thinking, flippin to their editorial page...its interesting times period - wherever we go.  While I watch closely whats happening here, they also watch closely the goat-rodeo happening at home.  I appreciated the simple nutshell that the editor here put a complicated US politics in.  I also really appreciated about how he wrapped the nutshell around an affirmation of the freedom of the press. Something to be proud of in the dark - a heat in the freezing.  I need to look at current state of affairs here in similar light - so far away, a different perspective. While its Memorial Day a half of world away back home, it was a good affirmation that while we toast fallen veterans, that we might also raise our admiration to the freedoms they fought for and how here, even in these interesting constantly malleable that its those freedoms that keep all of whats great in this world strong and withstanding.

people saying if tumblr dies they will go to deviantart.i cant. i cant go back there, on bad days just reading the words throws me into a panic attack  i cant. with tumblr you create your world. its rivers and you choose which rivers you see from who you follow. deviantart isnt like that, its the ocean. big and flat and you see everything always. you cant do anything. glance up and theres hurt everywhere.you cant see a frontpage without seeing people being abused, stalked and harmed. you cant even look at work pages as the more like this and collections, its always there, and the people, the ones who were always doing it, who the moderators dont care about it, who are how deviantart kills people, in the comments always, you cant escape or control its all there. deviantart is open, all open and you cant narrow it, you cant control it. its always there and all of it. you cant escape the worst of it. you meet people and you care about them. but, the people who are there, are they the broken? or do they break. you try to say its just only people who are in trouble spend their lives looking for friends through notes and replies but, then you see people who are good from the outside and then, the predators, manipulators and abusers get to them and just like the others they break and die. you see too many people die. people suffer and hurt and break and its all open, no control no ’curation’ so you cant stop seeing. if tumblr is like that, its not to me, i can choose, i dont have to see its never where you are but dA is everywhere and all the time. you cant filter it out, safe search settings don’t solve it, blocking doesnt work theres just, too much. its not like tumblr where you have the world you create, live in what you like. i cant go back.

You may have noticed the Grizzly release video on the frontpage today. Someone in the thread suggested trying to take the "alpha" role when encountering a bear.

Don't do this...

Bears don't want to see humans and will avoid them if they hear them coming. When walking through the woods where suspect bears to be make sure you're being loud. Clap your hands, make yelling sounds, bang your walking sticks together, etc... If they hear you they will likely move.

If they dont move and you come across one, stop, go back away slowly the way you came (dont turn your back until its out of sight), wait, make more noise at a very safe distance, and carry on once they've moved. Do not display any aggressive behavior to the bear. You could end up pissing it off and making it aggressive in return especially if there are cubs near by, or it has nowhere to move to.

If you startle a bear... well you werent loud enough, you fucked up. Again, attempt to back away slowly (again dont turn your back until its out of sight) the way you came. If the bear becomes aggressive, you'll hear huffing noises, clattering of their teeth, and them swaying their lowered head back and forth. If they charge, running isnt an option, they're faster than you. Only now do you try (and pray) to be aggressive. Bang your sticks, wave them around, yell, make yourself appear as large as possible to attempt to scare it off... good luck.

If you're being attacked... yea sure try to remember this reddit post during all the commotion... but use your backpack as protection, protect your head/neck, and other vital organs. Hope the bear loses interest and you're not too seriously injured to get out of there.

Theres actually very few fatal bear attacks each year. Only 24 since 2010. Though its always a good idea to know what to do. Always carry bear spray and read the directions. Carrying a gun probably won't help you. Anything big enough to stop a bear as its charging will be unweildy to carry while hiking. This aint the movies, good luck hitting a bear while its charging at you too. Have fun and happy camping/hiking!

BFA has been riddled with bugs, imperfections, game system flaws and design choices that can be frustrating to say the least. But in the first few weeks of BFA I've noticed a trend where these things seem to change very quickly if its made public on a place like reddit where blizzard lose control over the negative publicity. (They don't seem to care much at all about their own forums, especially not the EU side. Bug reports for the dungeons and raid were to be found there in enormous numbers and yet they were never fixed or even adressed or mentioned.)/r/wow frontpage mentioned for example that Azerite pieces felt awful to not be able to trade, which then not two days after in the Q&A was adressed and fixed. Other cases include the parrot mount which had its saddle covered with the parrot texture instead of the saddle texture. which was fixed yesterday in a hotfix. This had been reported long before since the model displayed the same texture even in the mount inspect tool where you can inspect mounts before you own them. Even more recently we had the case of the weapon drop from Taloc which was then converted into a transmog item, which was promptly reversed after Blizzard noticed that the community expressed well-deserved outrage over the fact.So with this in mind, I figured I'd point out a few other things Blizzard might be interested in knowing. First are bugs that can be quite baffling, later they get a bit nit-picky.Bugs/features, who really knows at this pointIn waycrest manor, AoE Abilities like Divine Star and Halo (Halo in particular) for disc priest, so I assume many other abilities for other classes as well, sometimes pull the mobs in the basement even when you're upstairs and theres no way to deaggro them except for just dying.In waycrest manor, dying at the maggot packs that spawn more maggots out of you and releasing will sometimes (read: most times) cause the maggots to spawn at the dungeon enterance with you where you respawn.In freehold, if you cast a knockback on the brawlers that you need to slay before the 2nd boss while on the bridge, they can fall off and AFK in the water for a couple of minutes before finally despawning and then respawning so you can continue with your life and pull them again. Conversely, sometimes by doing this all of them despawn and you just skip the entire thing and the game gives you the pirate hat for the council without any effort.In Uldir you can try to pull and reset MOTHER by running back into Talocs room, which wouldn't be that strange... if it wasn't for the fact that if a havoc demon hunter does it and double dashes then she sometimes doesn't despawn and you get to do her fight in Taloc's room with 0 room mechanics.If you have a 370 staff weapon as a caster, and a 370 held in offhand or dagger drops for you, Personal Loot does not allow you to trade it since you own no dagger or offhand, only a staff. Why this is in the game is beyond me, but I guess Blizzard really resent the idea of us sharing loot amongst each other like... I don't know.. whats the word? A community?If you have a 370 ring and a 370 ring drops, you can not trade it if you dont have a 370 ring in your 2nd ring slot. In order to counter this mechanic you need to equip every item level increase in Rings in both ring slots (move the item up and down once) so the game thinks you own a ring for each slot. Then you outplay the personal loot system and you can trade rings again. This works the same for trinkets.The mechanical golems at the start of Motherlode that you would like to scrap as an engineer to get pieces for the new engineering mount dont count as scrappable. When you hover over them it says instead that they're "skinnable", but skinners can't skin them either. (This one I haven't confirmed if they've hotfixed or not yet, this was a couple of days ago.)In Temple of Sethralis, the orbs sometimes dont respawn if a Guardian tries to replace it on its pedestal, and your only choice is to reset the key because there is no way to continue the instance.The second to last boss in Shrine of the Storms, where you need to soak orbs to remove your mind control, doesn't remove the mind control debuff even after soaking all the orbs. It sometimes does after soaking 6 orbs or more, but that requires you to soak 1 full wave of orbs and then a bit of the next. Which means that the guy after you operates on incrementally fewer orbs at their disposal. This is however not consistent, sometimes you dont lose the pre-mindcontrol buff at all. (Edit: apparently this is a feature? Its hard to know sometimes so I hope you'll forgive me.)If the same fight finishes it also sometimes takes up to 20 seconds until the squid goes off your head, which might be a feature or a bug but who knows at this point. You can't attack the eels which is the next pack while you have it on you in any case.Taking the boat that goes between the different ferrey-stops in Tiragarde Sound can sometimes result in you running into one of the larger ships that sail about, resulting in your tiny boat getting stuck on the bigger ship, waiting for the bigger ship to move at an angle where your smaller boat is freed.Death Gripping the Purification Construct on the bridge towards the entombing boss room in King's Rest while its casting its laser Purification Beam will cause it to reverse the direction it was going rotationally, only to then correct itself 3 seconds later and go back in the direction it started off in.This one I'm not sure if its a feature or a bug either, but in Siege of Boralus at the last boss, the cannons block Line of Sight which makes healing the fight beyond infuriating. It's not a difficult addition to the fight since the rest of the terrain is fairly open, which is why it makes me think its more likely a bug than not. It only makes life awful for the healer as they run around the object in circles looking for angles to heal everyone. The same cannons (or atleast same model) in Tol Dagor do not block line of sight.In Temple of Sethralis, the Guardians at the last boss seem to spawn Sanguine. Maybe this is intentional, but no other dungeon bosses that I've found that include adds spawn Sanguine. This falls down under maybe bug I guess.This one is very minor, but the champions worldquest in Voldun which spawns near the bottomleft, edging on the desert where theres a tiny hole into the ground, last time it was up, spawned about 2 snakes every 2 minutes that 15 horde and alliance players had to share kills on. It took 15 minutes for me to finish the world quest because the azerite shards you click on the ground as part of this same world quest (the variant where you acquire %, not the heal 5 wounds one) stopped spawning after you collected each respective node once too.Disc priest mastery snapshots. If you put up Atonements and then use a mastery-giving trinket, your atonements do not take more healing appropriate to your new Mastery, but to the mastery you had when you applied them. Fuck knows if this is a feature.In Freehold, the turtle miniboss before the Ogre boss sometimes leaves a single shell that never stops bouncing.This might be a feature, but in Island Expeditions (I have not confirmed for this reset), healers pull an obscene amount of aggro that can be next to impossible to overthreat as a DPS. Healers definitely generate more threat in this game-mode than others, but this has never been explained anywhere so might be a bug so worth mentioning in case it could then get fixed. It could have something to do with Blizzards new AI made out of tibetan gold wanting to prioritize healers.In Island Expeditions, the resources gathered bar up top measuring your progress and the enemy team's progress sometimes spawns slightly outside the screen so you can't read the numbers.Like previously mentioned on this sub today, weapon enchants are listed under ring enchants on the Auction House.In Motherlode, the last boss casts a gatling gun which you need to dodge to get the achievment Ready for Raiding, but at the last second of the cast he abruptly turns to hit the tank with the last two ticks which makes the achievment impossible to obtain for any tanks, and incredibly confusing for non-tanks as well who stand behind the gatling gun the entire way only to immedeatly be met with it cancelling its animation to shoot them out of nowhere if the tank is trying to get the achievment with them.In Underrot, Cragmaw, if tanked closed to the edges of the room, can throw parasites outside the boundries of the map where you can't step on them to stop them from hatching.In Underrot, the last boss if tanked at the walls of the room shoots his vile spray backwards instead of the way he's facing because the spell can't find enough room ahead of him. So you can just stand AFK the entire fight and nuke him.Minor inconvenience, the Disc priest talent Sins of the Many doesn't say in its tooltip that your damage dealt increase only diminishes down to 3% and not 0%. You need to google this or constantly check your buff in combat to figure it out. Its a three-line tooltip, you really couldn't fit that crucial bit of information in there?This is just a few of the things I've found since launch and I'm but one player. I invite the rest of you to contribute with other bugs or strange design choices you've found that have probably been reported hundreds of times on the Blizzard forums, in the PTR and BETA clients, and in game on live too so that we might catalogue them. Maybe if we concentrate them all here in one big mega post that people can actually see then something will be done about it.Like I said, feel free to contribute with your own examples of absurdities you've found in BFA so far. And on a larger scale it might be worth discussing whether or not the fact that these things only gets fixed when great public attention is turned towards them is a good thing or bad? In Legion we had similar behaviour from Blizz with for example the getting stuck in the cages in m+ on Maw of Souls which was there at launch and remained unfixed until it one day happened in the MDI.Its honestly fairly depressing that we need to muster all our efforts to form a public outcry for many things to get fixed, let alone CHANGED. Do we need to collect signatures to prove to Blizzard that we want to be able to choose between Personal Loot and Master Looter so people who like each can use their own system? Collect signatures to show that there is a demand for classes to not be what arcane mage has become, where its close to a one-button spec? Collect signatures so bosses like Hyrja dont oneshot at Tyrannical unless you're an immunity class? Maybe I'm being unfair.EDIT: EDIT: The vote-brigading has been counteracted upon but I'll leave /u/elmaethorstars list here regardless:Adds on the last boss in Temple of Sethraliss, as well as dropping sanguine as you mentioned, also contribute to trash percentage which are likely the same bug or some sort of flag mix up.Likewise, adds on Lockwood in Siege of Boralus also count as trash percentage which I doubt is intentional.Sanguine pools from the tunnels in Tol Dagor can hit people upstairs with no visual indicator.Numerous Azerite armour tooltips do not display the correct values. For Holy Priest: Everlasting Light, Permeating Glow, and Twist Magic all consistently heal for more than they say they will without any +modifiers to healing active except versatility (and the differences are not the versatility percentages).Hunters still have animation lag on instant abilities when using guns or crossbows as a Tauren and several other races. This bug was introduced during patch 7.2 and has still not been fixed. It is particularly awful throughout Alliance BfA levelling because every ranged weapon reward is a crossbow.Power Word: Shield occasionally just fails on Prot Paladins with no indication of why.Hand of the Protector consistently fails to account for missing health and thus does incorrect healing. Coupled with the above bug, this makes this healer/tank combination very annoying to play.Divine Star on Priests continues to bug out on certain terrain even when there are no visible obstacles. via /r/wow

Reddit joins Facebook to control public opinion on-line

Reddit is banning the vast majority of pro-Donald Trump posts from appearing on its “most popular” page frequented by new users.

The online discussion site announced it was clamping down on what would appear as “popular” by showing visitors only popular posts from handpicked categories, which would apparently exclude anything from pro-Trump subreddits.

In fact, a graph reveals that Reddit administrators are actively filtering out posts from The_Donald subreddit from appearing in /r/popular; if the filter represented just an algorithm based on what users filtered out themselves, one would expect more posts filtered from r/politics.

Instead, there’s a clear bias against anything pro-Trump, and there’s precedent to believe this is intentional censorship.

Back in Nov., Reddit CEO Steve Huffman vowed to suppress certain pro-Trump posts from appearing elsewhere on Reddit.

“Posts stickied on r/the_donald will no longer appear in r/all – r/all is not our frontpage, but is a popular listing that our most engaged users frequent, including myself,” he wrote. “The sticky feature was designed for moderators to make announcements or highlight specific posts.”

“It was not meant to circumvent organic voting, which r/the_donald does to slingshot posts into r/all, often in a manner that is antagonistic to the rest of the community.”

But Huffman’s justification is overshadowed by the scandal in which he was caught editing comments by pro-Trump users critical of him on Reddit.

He isn’t alone.  Since Trump’s election, the largest social media sites including Facebook and Twitter have suppressed Trump supporters – and perhaps even the president himself.

Twitter in particular is apparently censoring positive responses to Trump’s tweets while showcasing the negative ones.

On Feb. 7, Twitter announced it was “collapsing potentially abusive or low-quality Tweets” in the interest of “safety,” a catch-all term which gives the social media giant carte blanche to suppress anything it deems “offensive.”

Trump supporters noticed this caused negative responses to Trump’s tweets to rise to the top of the page, allowing anti-Trump fanatics to dominate the discussion.

Facebook has also long attempted to control discussions on its site by blocking links to alternative media and banning those critical of its censorship practices.

“According to the New York Times, three current and former anonymous employees claim the company has had a new tool developed specifically to restrict certain kinds of posts from appearing in users’ news feeds in certain geographic areas,” reported the Anti-Media. “This form of censorship has been deployed under the auspices of facilitating Facebook’s entry into the Chinese market.”

“Previously, the company did this in Pakistan, Russia, and Turkey, where the respective governments requested the ability for third parties to review and block posted content. Facebook granted the requests and removed approximately 55,000 total pieces of content.”

Facebook CEO Mark Zuckerberg was also caught discussing the censorship of anti-migrant posts during a “hot mic” incident with German Chancellor Angela Merkel.

He also met with with Lu Wei, the czar of China’s draconian Internet censorship system, in 2014, where the Facebook CEO lauded Wei as a visionary.

Since rising to prominence in 2011, Wei has personally overseen the reduction of Internet access in China to cover-up mass government corruption and criticism of communism in general.

This censorship has kept the Chinese population ignorant and easier to control by the ruling elite.

For example, Chinese citizens are among the least aware of the 1989 Tiananmen Square Massacre which took place in the heart of Beijing because government censors routinely clamp down on any mention of the incident.

Facebook is likewise motivated to restrict speech as part of the tech elite’s agenda to eradicate nation-states in favor of a globalist superstate controlled by an unelected network of titans in technology, media, government and academia.

The social media giants – from Facebook to Reddit – are establishing themselves as virtual “nations” ran by authoritarian leaders, such as Zuckerberg and Huffman, who control the public opinion of their “citizens” – the users – by suppressing criticism of their agenda.

These social media sites form an anti-competitive system designed to derail rival viewpoints to the globalist model while also dehumanizing individuals by making them feel isolated and inadequate, despite the fact that it’s the individual who triggers the combustive spark that drives the engine of human progression.
