there are a lot of evil people in the world and a lot of darkness in the world and so it’s very important for me to stress that now more than ever is the time to spread kindness and compassion. combat the evil by not only not partaking in it, but actively refuting it. destroy the notion that being compassionate or generous or kind to someone is uncool or embarrassing or even scary. be the change you want to see. start a chain reaction. positivity only breeds more positivity. do an act of kindness for someone so that that person who is too afraid to do it themselves can see you, realize that they’re not alone, and perhaps sheepishly follow your example. and then the next person who is too afraid but sees that person can do the same. when bad news comes out about bad people or horrible atrocities in the world it’s such an easy impulse to despair, and obviously it’s important to feel what you need to feel. grieve. be angry. be sorrowful. be empathetic. but dust off your pants and get up and be a part of a chain reaction that, no matter how small the scale, and spread compassion and love and care. all the reasons why you might not—“it’s hard! it’s scary! people will make fun of me! it’s useless because there’s too much evil!” are all grade A arguments as to why you should. you have no idea how many people you could inspire to do the same. even if it doesn’t get you anyway far, you can at least say you have the nobility of trying. please choose love and please choose life. you are worth loving and you are worth inspiring others to love

Soap being your closest guy friend and everyone thinking you have feelings for him.

People will either assume/suspect you're a thing because you're often orbiting each other (and it doesn't help that you guys sometimes wear matching outfits for fun), or they always ask you if you like him and if it hurts that he always seems to be having flings when he's not around you.

It's annoying.

So one day when a group of your colleagues are trying to get some gossip outta you (again), you decide to have fun with it and say you'll confess to him when you see him next- which happens to be right then and there because Soap came looking for you.

You give a good performance, blubbering about how much you liked him for the longest time and your coworkers are watching, awing and cooing in the background like they have nothing better to do.

Soap looks from you to them and back to you again with an unreadable expression on his face, but then he smirks and accepts your 'confession', making an excuse to pull you off to the side and ask if you meant it. You laugh.

You laugh like it's the most obvious thing in the world that you were just messing around to get those annoying birds off your back, and of course you don't see him that way. He's your friend, what else would you see him as?

Soap doesn't get the chance to respond because you get a call you can't miss and wave a goodbye. He stares after you. You don't look back. You don't see the hurt in his eyes.

Unbeknownst to you, Soap very much has feelings for you. He has for a long time. Had those flings to try and forget you, but he couldn't move on. He was in deep.

And just when he let himself briefly hope that you felt the same after that confession, he was swiftly crushed when you laughed in his face.

But that didn"t matter. Not really. He was locked in. You're his ride or die. His day one. He'd always be yours, even if you weren't his.

Here’s a bit of a departure from my usual art posting but I’d like to get the word out about my dear friend Edrian and his friend Angeles’s endurance performance and hunger strike for a free Palestine in Los Angeles starting today, June 17th. (More info on Edrian’s Instagram and at venerations.cargo.site)

Edrian will begin cutting out paper dolls and ribbons to reach 35,647 of each, reflecting the reported death toll of Palestinians killed by Israel’s genocide in Gaza since Oct. 7th. He will not move from the venue until he is done and do nothing aside from cutting with few exceptions made for his own physical and economic survival. In addition to that and to represent a microcosm of the suffering in Gaza and Palestine, he will be on HUNGER STRIKE until he finishes. It’s an impossible task to do alone before starving so audience participation is essential. I’m spreading the word to ask for support through participation!

You can participate in a number of ways (more detailed instructions here):

Spread the word. Word of mouth and social media sharing are crucial as this performance is being promoted pretty exclusively via word of mouth.

Donate money to Palestinian aid funds! Certain high donation amounts can help Edrian continue his endurance performance by allowing him to engage in life-giving activities like showering or socializing with a loved one, and reaching the 100k total goal allows him to end his hunger strike.

If you live in and around Los Angeles, visit the venue (800 Date Ave, Alhambra, CA 91803) There you can help him cut and show your support. ***The performance is on the second floor of the venue and there is no elevator so it is not accessible except by stairs :(

If you don’t live near LA, you can cut paper dolls and mail them to the venue address to count towards the total. (printable templates here) This is what I will be doing. It’s easy to do with any spare time you’re not using your hands. I recommend mailing them in small batches if possible to get them in on time and reduce the risk of losing mail. I also recommend including info about the count of paper dolls in each parcel (for example include a note telling the total number of paper dolls) Every small amount counts!

If you are an Art Center College of Design student or alumni, sign the petition to pressure Art Center to divest from Israel! Art Center has refused to host Edrian and Angeles for their performance, torn down their posters promoting it, and in general refused to take a stance against Israel’s genocide. As artists and human beings we must resist genocide and refuse to support institutions that side against the people.

He is also live-streaming his performance and documenting progress if you would like to show support just by being present.

Hey, different post than usual, but this is just a PSA for people who may follow or have purchased anything from @/kagebros, or are looking to join any of the zines run by them @/allsparkzines. They have a history (and present) of tracing for profit.

I don’t think this one requires an overlay. It’s a trace of the yolopark bumblebee shockwave model kit promotional image, as a “sketch”.

Which they changed, once people noticed it! Changed most of it. They traced a different promotional image for the gun, which remained largely the same, even in the final piece (right).

Their matching Optimus Prime poster is a trace of the still from a [ Paramount promo video ], 36 seconds in.

There are several other examples that I can’t fit into this post without making it overly long, but if you have purchased or have been gifted anything from them, there is a chance it has been traced.

Regarding tracing as a tool:

Go hogwild! Trace all you want! Tracing is a very useful tool for learning shapes and forms, but like any other tool, it’s only useful if you use it correctly. The ultimate goal of tracing is to understand. It’s training wheels. Just don’t hide and lie about it, because as soon as you do, it becomes plagiarism.

Even within the finished versions of the Shockwave poster, it’s still clear where parts have been traced or copied without understanding. It’s a shame, because transformers as a franchise having so many toys makes it very easy to make references!

Here's an example of how I use them:

Luckily for me, the Cybertron toys and models are more or less exactly the same. I don't own the toys, so I have two images from a [ toy reviewer ] on top. Many angles to help me understand exactly what's happening. Granted, I could just ask my friend who does own the toy for him in the same pose, but tracing over that directly would make it too stiff and it wouldn't mesh with my style.

yes that means every time you see me use é i actually held down the alt key and pressed 130. every ç is the result of alt+135. every ù (151) takes me at least three tries because i always do û (150) and ô (147) first. i do ê (136) instead of â (131) all the time. è (138) is my babygirl and i would never forget her. on the other hand sometimes i use i instead of ï (139) because who can remember that. i just try a bunch of random shit until i finally get an î (140) and then i'm like oh yeah 140, duh. also even though i almost never type in spanish i will remember ñ (164) until the day i die. and of course all the acute accents in the 160s (á í ó ú, no é for some reason but as mentioned i have secret french knowledge that unlocks alt+130). i only needed to know the danish accented letters for like two weeks but occasionally i can come out with a æ (145), ø (0248), or å (134), usually by accident. this is what i'm using long-term storage for. i don't even know how to switch keyboards.
