Ironwood: So my solution to a flying monster is to fly even higher. I am sure the monster will not be able to survive this high, even though I have absolutely no proof of this fact and have no idea what the fuck this thing is.
Fans: omg he’s clearly a genius

Whiteknight time travel Au
Pyrrha: Weiss why are we throwing away Jaunes razors
Weiss: Dear trust me give it 2 weeks and you'll never let a blade near his face... more than you already do
*weeks later*
Pyrrha: Weiss you are right it was worth it
Passing student: How could there be a not a single razer or blades in a 50 mile radius
Weiss: Did you buy all th-
Pyrrha: Razors in a 50 mile radius yes
Weiss:(kisses her) I love you so much
Pyrrha summoned them to her with her Semblance, it was deeply alarming
But also, gonna be the person to say it, Weiss wouldn’t do this to him
Fair warning, this is going to turn into a Jaune meta rant. I didn’t mean it to, it just sort of happened
Jaune growing the beard and the hair in the Ever After, no matter how attractive it was to Weiss, was representative of him not caring for himself. That’s why his armor was rusted but Crescent Rose was in perfect condition, he was putting all of his energy into worrying about/taking care of his friends and NONE into taking care of himself
And don’t say it’s because he didn’t have a way to cut it, he absolutely did. Crocea Mors was still sharp, even rusted, and if he wanted to he could’ve used that to cut his hair. Knives clearly existed and were sold, hell the Paper Pleasers had fucking scissors. If he cared about taking care of his appearance, he could’ve done so
But he didn’t. He let his physical body rust just as surely as his armor
Jaune’s whole arc is about loss of agency, and failing to live up to his own expectations
He didn’t REALLY have a choice about leaving Pyrrha, he didn’t REALLY have a choice about killing Penny, he didn’t REALLY have a choice about getting sent into the past. And then as a result of these traumas, he took agency away from the Paper Pleasers
He failed to become the hero on his own, so he doubled down on shouldering the burdens of his team. He failed to stand by Pyrrha’s side as her equal, so he doubled down on becoming a warrior. He failed to focus on protecting his friends at Haven, so he doubled down on becoming a healer/defender. He failed to heal/defend his friends and KILLED Penny, so he broke
His sword shattering was symbolic of that being the last straw. He couldn’t be a hero, he couldn’t be a leader, he couldn’t be a warrior, he couldn’t be a protector. In Jaune’s mind, he had nothing left to be
THATS why he let himself fall apart in the Ever After, in his mind he was only living to get RWBY back to Remnant. The one last thing he could do for them. THATS why he clung so hard to the role of the Rusted Knight, after so long with no purpose it was finally something he could be
That’s also why he focused so much on “protecting” the Paper Pleasers, and especially why he named them after his friends
His fragile helpful loving friends that he NEEDS to protect. Jaune knows he has more Aura than his friends (more than anyone he’s even met) and he’s meant to take the hits that his friends can’t. His weapon is a shield, and HE is a shield. The Paper Pleasers were representative of everything he failed to do for his friends, every time he failed to protect them
“Because I can actually protect these people!”
Jaune lost all of his agency when he landed in the Ever After. He didn’t chose to kill Penny, he didn’t choose to fall, he didn’t choose to go back in time. So he took away the Paper Pleaser’s AND ALYX’S agency because he was terrified of not being able to protect them
Weiss saw what happened to him at his worst, she saw what happened to Jaune when every choice was taken from him and he had nothing but failure to remember.
So no way in hell would Weiss take away his agency now, or make him think he’s failing her by not looking “mature”. She might joke with him about it, but she’d never take away his choice in the matter

*clears throat* WHITE ROSE HASNT HAPPENED BECAUSE THEY ARE SIMPLY NOT DOOMED ENOUGH
The most consistent thing about RWBY is that in order to be in a romantic relationship the relationship MUST be doomed explicitly
Jaune and Pyrrha only kiss after she knows she’s ABOUT TO DIE
Ren and Nora only get to kiss during an argument where ren slightly expresses his paranoia and reasons he refuses to be with her, then he immediately gets proven right and then Nora gets almost electrocuted to death
The only reason clover and qrow get to flirt for essentially EVERY scene they have together is that they’re EXPLICITLY doomed (it’s about how their individual relationships with luck have led them to be intensely loyal to authority. Qrow in a sense of gratitude, clover in a sense of privilege. they’re both the best huntsman of where they were and most trusted warriors of their leaders. however qrows life has had his team fall apart and has gotten the appropriate amount of disillusionment from ozpins lies. This is what saves him. But clover has been left to be doomed to death because he cannot believe a system he was built for could be anything but inherently correct. Qrows misfortune had saved him clovers luck killed him. And despite how hard anyone could’ve tried their was never anything that could have saved him from being gods most perfect soldier. Or idk something like that I don’t think about them enough)
Tai summer and raven. Raven was always going to leave to go back to her tribe. Summer was always going to be murdered by Salem. Tai was always going to be left. They all knew they all probably tried to deny it. They all walked backwards into their own narrative. Their ship name is apparently str crossed lovers. Which is genius.
Ruby and penny got their whole thing because penny died TWICE and now she’s permanently haunting ruby’s lil narrative so good for her
and that’s why chronic runaway and abandonment issues personified are CANNON SOULMATES (I could go on several rants I adore them)
So yeah if you want them to be cannon they just have to be more doomed but it’s kinda hard for that cause they had a little reversed doomed situation where they’re relationship was always going to get better because they were kinda enemies at first
Anyway good luck to whiterose shippers I wish you all a very happy only team partners that haven’t kissed yet

Summer, Pyrrha and James
Ruby: Yes Ratchetmath is defending us today.
Me: Nah don't get it twisted ya'll still guilty but for once I am going to have to expose James for a minute. He's understandable but not innocent. Plus I made a promise and I'm keeping it so if you want to continue then go on. @arkosfan @expensiveeggplant
Okay, I do think it's time to keep my promise. Let’s talk about Summer and Pyrrha’s deaths and how they influence the characters. Then we talk about James's actions.
Both Summer and Pyrrha's deaths should matter. But, only to the characters that were close to them.
Summer's death was supposed to be or still is a mystery. Her death is assumed to matter to Ruby. Not only because she was a silver-eyed warrior and Ruby’s mom but because it goes back to Salem. After all, Salem met Summer and probably was the one who saw and killed her. And Summer was why Ruby became a huntress in the first place. An example is her fighting and clothing style. Now Summer’s death is being brought up more often and not knowing anything about her, Ruby sets out to uncover Summer's demise with each new detail dictating her next move.
Pyrrha's death should have mattered to Jaune. Pyrrha’s death serves as a reminder that not even the strongest can survive war like Summer. Jaune, realizing that he has to continue without her, rises to the challenge to become more powerful than herself. However, for him, how his partner and team are treated and how the world, mainly the ones in charge, react will determine Jaune’s next moves. This is due to Pyrrha’s death being very recent and so far the world has gone to madness.
Now let’s discuss James Ironwood. James’s plan was debatable at best. I understand the overall goal was to use Amity Arena to broadcast to the entire world of Salem's existence. However the price- the means to get there was horrible. Not just for Mantle but the world.
First, Beacon; This man brought his army into Vale. Turned the Council against Ozpin. And is one of the people who saw Pyrrha and spoke of the maiden powers under Jaune’s nose. As soon as his army fails and Salem wins, he leaves. Leaving Goodwitch to clean up the mess.
Second, the world. I mean, James called in all of his troops, scattered around Remnant, to return to Atlas. This stopped trading routes. Businesses that relied on them to cease operations. Worse, lessens security around the kingdoms. Meaning more work for hunters and council members to deal with. So sorry, James’s fan but Nora and Jaune were speaking straight facts.
Speaking of Jaune and Nora, let’s discuss James’s effect on the two teams.
For team RWBY James had more of a positive effect. James did more right for team RWBY than JNPR. Letting Ruby off with a pass and even praising her for her bravery. Giving Yang a pardon even though she struck a supposed student, breaking his leg, and not going to a holding cell. Giving Yang an arm. Backing up Weiss, even offering her a place at his school in Atlas. Blake though not receiving anything from Ironwood, hearing all his effort from her team would get her to side with him. So it’s insane why they're more against Ironwood than JNPR who he hasn’t done much for.
Team JNPR so far when it came to James had a negative effect. Mainly he’s the one halting their progress. He hasn’t done anything specially for them. And again, if he knew about Salem, the maidens, and relics, what makes you think he didn’t know about Pyrrha? Hence why I didn’t like Ren's development where he sides with Ironwood so easily, only because he reminds him of his dad. Nora had reason for Robyn was more understandable than Ren’s. Meanwhile, the only reason Jaune trusts him is because he trusts Roby. In my opinion team JNPR should have been the main ones against him.
(Oh and let's not forget, team RWBY were the ones who missed up but James was willing to give them an option. I don’t recall him giving team JNPR any options at all. )
Now let’s discuss Mantle and Atlas. Mainly the difference between them. In Mantle, there are lower-class citizens living there. And thanks to James, most of the people have no jobs. Barely enough money to get by. And are attacked by Grimm every day. Meanwhile, Atlas has a barrier and ships defending them. The people are living peacefully and are throwing parties. Hell one kid, in RWBY Arrowfell, was sitting on the sidewalk to watch a fight. Minor but still this shows me Atlas is doing better than Mantle.
Yes, James does help Mantle with security. However, he sends a majority of robots to do the job. The same robots used to protect Beacon. The same robots that failed and nearly destroyed the kingdom of Vale. And another key detail about Mantle; it’s outdated. Everything from the Manlte’s homes and its street; which are in poor condition. To its wall; that doesn’t work cause Grimm can climb or fly over it. And its technology; which is from the military and the Schnee Dust Company. Not to mention the people of Mantle are being watched, killed, and/or arrested every few times a day. That includes the giant ships hovering over them while surrounding Atlas.
(I don’t know about you, but if I was living in Mantle and saw not one, not two but thousands of ships above me and near Atlas, I would be scared. Because that’s giving me the impression that you are willing to destroy my home or that a war is coming that you don’t want me to find out about.)
But you know what makes this worse…. Amity Arena was James’s only plan. It was his ONLY plan, and the heroes took no processions to make sure the plan stayed on course. And when as Ironwood said,” The timeline has changed”, he was ready to lift Atlas into space. Abandoning not just Mantle, but Remnant as a whole. Someone once said, “The needs of the many matters more than the few”, let's ask this, “If you were to compare the two cities, which of them has the most people?” And I recall Mistral, Argus, and Vale have people too so… who’s the many and whose the few?
(Nah-nah. Let me say this. Let me say this. In volume 8, the first episode Pietro said Amity was almost ready in fact it only took a couple of hours. So this made me question something, how was Robyn slowing down their progress? Because it seems despite her interference she wasn’t causing too many problems. Yet Tyrian who works for Salem, has a criminal record and has been killing people left and right wasn’t on the main character’s priority list. Are you kidding me?)
So yeah, James undoubtedly had questionable methods. He had the right idea however the risk it took to bring this idea to life should not be overlooked, regardless of Salem's planned attack on Vale. James’s action only justified the world's hatred towards him and his military. Basically, even if his plan succeeded no one would have claimed done. No kingdom would simply give him their trust or aid. The sad truth is Atlas deserved to fall due to its own ignorance.
(And if you don’t believe me let me give an example. Adam who has an SDC mark on his face and mainly the mine workers are Faunues. Ilia’s parents died in a mining accident and Atlassian students just laughed about it. And then Cinder, who was a slave to her stepmom and her daughters when she was a kid and no one helped her. )

An In-Depth Analysis of the Interpersonal Relationships of Team STRQ (and why Rosebird is DEFINITELY a thing)
So I’d like to do something of an analysis on the interpersonal relationships of Team STRQ. More specifically, analyzing Qrow’s, Taiyang’s, and Raven’s respective relationships with Summer, based on what the show has directly told, and shown us.
Tumblr media
Starting with Qrow, as I think this analysis is the most straightforward. Now to get one thing out of the way, I think we can definitively say at this point that Qrow is NOT RUBY’S SECRET DAD. Beyond CRWBY thoroughly debunking the theory at this point, nothing we’ve seen or heard really paints Qrow as having been in any kind of romantic relationship with Summer. Or at least any that would supersede any romantic relationship with Raven and/or Tai in some ‘Poly-STRQ’ scenario.
Tumblr media
To begin with what we’ve heard of Qrow’s relationship with Summer, we’ve actually heard quite a bit, relatively speaking. In terms of dialogue, we’ve heard more about Summer from Qrow than either Tai or Raven, which is helpful in getting a sense of what their relationship may have been like. From his conversations with Ruby in Volumes 3 and 7, we can say that Qrow views Summer with both admiration (“She was always the best of us…”) and fondness and affection (“Bit of a brat though. But hey, I like brats.”). But the detail I find most telling is the ease that Qrow has in talking about Summer, particularly in Volume 7. When Ruby asks him about Summer and her ‘last mission’, Qrow isn’t hesitant or all that uncomfortable with talking about his teammate. Which gives the impression that Qrow has actually coped with Summer’s (apparent) death fairly well.
Tumblr media
Which in turn is notable because THE go-to narrative method of hinting that a character was romantically involved or had feelings for another character long missing/dead is to show them being clearly uncomfortable TALKING about that other character (something we’ll be revisiting in a little bit…). Something we don’t see from Qrow when he talks about Summer.
Tumblr media
It’s also notable that while Qrow, along with almost all the other adults in the show, was something of an unreliable narrator in the early volumes, his talk with Ruby about Summer happened AFTER Volume 6 when Qrow opted to finally start being open with and trusting of his niece and protégé. Meaning that I think we can trust that Qrow is being genuine in his talk with Ruby in Volume 7.
And in terms of what the show has so far directly shown us about Qrow’s relationship with Summer, the answer is notably: Nothing. Because unlike Tai and Raven, Qrow was absent from the big important flashback giving us our first look at Summer. Which combined with what we’ve heard from Qrow, tells me that the narrative of RWBY considers Summer’s relationship with Qrow to be less dramatically important/significant than her relationships with Tai or Raven.
Moving on to Taiyang, what’s interesting is that Tai’s relationship with Summer is kind of in the inverse situation of what we see with Qrow’s. In that with Qrow we’ve heard some but seen nothing, with Tai we’ve seen some but heard almost nothing.
I mean, consider for a moment that prior to the tenth episode of the NINTH volume of the series, EVERYTHING we knew about Taiyang’s relationship with Summer Rose came to us second-hand from Yang in ONE conversation with Blake back in Volume Two! I’ve spoken before in other posts that if feels quite curious that while the overlying text of the story claims that Summer’s relationship with Tai should be very important, given that they are supposed to be Ruby’s PARENTS, yet we have heard effectively NOTHING about it. Other than a simple claim that ‘it existed’. I mean, forget how we’ve heard more about Summer from Qrow than we have from Tai; we’ve heard more about Summer from RAVEN than we have from Tai (more on THAT in a little bit XD)
Tumblr media
Now of course, unlike with Qrow, as of the finale of Volume 9, we have actually SEEN a look at Tai’s relationship with Summer. Albeit a brief look, but enough to get something of a sense of it. What I find interesting is that despite this being our first look at Summer’s relationship with Tai, this scene/vision doesn’t really tell us, or Ruby, anything she/we didn’t already know about these two. That Summer and Tai were really close… and that’s pretty much it.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
And what I find even more interesting is a curious amount of ambiguity towards the nature of Summer’s and Tai’s relationship in this scene. Despite the text of the show claiming that these two were lovers, this scene is notably lacking the kind of overt romantic gestures we might expect, such as a kiss or long held gaze. Yes, Summer and Tai have a very close hug, but let’s not forget that RWBY has used close, intimate hugs like this as a gesture of platonic or familial love/affection just as much if not MORE times than as a gesture of romantic love. Just look at Ren’s hugs with Jaune, or Jaune’s hug with Ruby, or even that time Ironwood hugged Qrow. Simply put, I don’t think that hug tells us nearly as much about Summer’s and Tai’s relationship as people might think.
Finally, we come to Raven. And funny enough, unlike Qrow and Tai, I would argue that we have both heard AND seen QUITE a bit about Summer’s relationship with Raven.
Tumblr media
When it comes to what we’ve heard, it’s not just what we have heard from Raven about Summer that’s important, but what we HAVEN’T heard as well. Across Volumes 4 and 5, we see Raven all too happy to mock, criticize and generally smack-talk just about everyone from her old life, from Ozpin, Qrow, Taiyang and even Yang.
But not Summer.
For some reason, Raven NEVER has anything bad to say about SUMMER.
Tumblr media
And the ONE time Raven does mention Summer, it is during a talk with Ruby, Summer’s daughter. Not only that, but rather than criticizing or mocking Summer’s memory, Raven’s line of “You sound like your mother,” is at worst neutral and might even have an undercurrent of respect.
Tumblr media
Finally, Raven’s tone and demeanor when she says this line come off as very guarded and restrained. Combined with how she never mentions her outside of this scene, one thing becomes quite clear:
Raven does not like to talk about Summer.
Remember what I said back in the Qrow section about characters having difficulty/resistance to talking about another long-missing/dead character as an easy way to hint at a prior romance or romantic feelings?
Yeah, this is EXACTLY what I was talking about.
And then we come to the flashback/vision in Volume 9’s finale. The scene which, while also brief, showed us a LOT about Summer’s relationship with Raven.
Whereas Summer’s scene with Tai merely showed us things we already knew from Yang, her scene with Raven is a MAJOR reveal that establishes a whole new dynamic that both Ruby, and much of the audience had NO idea about.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
That Summer and Raven were actually quite a bit closer than anyone ever realized. That Summer apparently trusted Raven more than ANYONE else to help on her secret mission while also having apparently taken Raven leaving Yang, Ruby and herself rather personally. And that Raven herself was actually quite a bit more upbeat and joking around Summer than we see her in the present, while also specifically showing a joking, awkward and even bashful side around Summer that has a lot of curious similarities to how Yang has acted around BLAKE.
And when we take this scene in conjunction with what we see of Raven in the present, a surprisingly consistent and complete picture emerges of Raven’s relationship with Summer.
In Volume 5, Yang notes that Raven is different from the woman she heard about from Tai and Qrow. Introducing the question that something changed Raven from the driven, determined and loyal woman Qrow and Tai knew to the bitter, angry and fearful woman we see at present. Well now we know almost for certain WHAT that something was:
Tumblr media
Raven lost SUMMER.
Taking these two elements together, we can see that Raven CARED about Summer. Cared about her so much that loosing Summer almost certainly BROKE Raven. Whatever happened during that mission turned Raven from this…
Tumblr media
…to this.
Tumblr media
We also know that Summer encountered Salem during her last mission, and whatever happened during that encounter seems to have inspired Salem to begin her grimm-hybridization experiments. And now that we know that Raven was with Summer on that mission, it becomes pretty easy to guess why Raven is so convinced Salem cannot be killed, and is so utterly TERRIFIED at the prospect of facing her again:
Tumblr media
Because Salem took Summer away from her.
Raven’s refusal to smack-talk Summer and the great difficulty she has in even mentioning her, Raven’s utter terror of the woman who did SOMETHING to Summer, that we now know Raven was almost certainly present to witness, and Raven being both quite friendly and awkward and willing to help Summer with her secret mission in the past.
All of it adds up to Raven having cared about Summer a GREAT deal. Likely cared about her the most out of her teammates. Given how she’s clearly taken Summer’s loss far harder than Qrow or Tai.
And when we add in Summer’s clear trust in Raven, that she trusted Raven above anyone else to help in her secret mission and even her clear resentment of Raven leaving Yang, Ruby and herself, we get a sense of just how close these were.
Summer and Raven were in all likelihood closer with each other than they were with anyone else. Sure, Summer certainly cared about Tai and Qrow, but it is Raven whom she TRUSTED above all others. And despite whatever caused Raven to leave her team, she still came back to help Summer with clearly no hesitation or reservation.
The funny thing is, with this scene we now know, or at least can reliably infer, more about Summer’s relationship with RAVEN, than we do about her relationships with either Qrow OR Tai.
And the thing is, this makes perfect sense when you consider the story arc going forward that this scene is almost certainly setting up:
Tumblr media Tumblr media
That Raven is now THE pivotal figure in the mystery of what happened to Summer Rose. Because it is now clear to both the audience and to Ruby that Raven must KNOW what happened to Summer. Going forward, it is Raven whom Ruby and her team and family must pursue for the answers of what happened to Summer.
With this scene, the relationship between Raven and Summer just became THE most consequential among those of Team STRQ for the story going forward.
It’s one of the big reasons why Rosebird as a pairing just feels so fitting for these two. It’s why it suddenly makes sense we don’t hear all that much about Summer from Tai or Qrow, and why neither of them know what happened to her; because the story of who Summer was and WHAT happened to her isn’t theirs to tell.
That story is RAVEN’s. And of course, Summer herself once we find out she’s not actually dead.
And the crazy thing is, even Raven turning out to be Ruby’s father feels like a natural extension of this: The relationship between Summer and Raven is now established as this very significant and consequential element, and now Ruby will almost certainly be driven to seek Raven out for answers as to what happened to her mother.
(Note that I say RUBY specifically. Because while Yang will certainly be involved and invested in this search as well, it is ultimately Ruby and only Ruby who saw the vision. Thusly, SHE is the one ultimately driving this arc.)
Tumblr media
So we now have Ruby on a quest to find Raven to find out what happened to Summer. The young girl seeking out the older woman whom she bares a curious resemblance to in order to find out what happened to her mother, whom this other woman was actually quite close with.
The writers might not have confirmed or directly hinted at Raven being Ruby’s secret dad, but they sure as hell put us on a narrative path the could absolutely lead to such a reveal.

Yang - Atlas Design Critique.
Tumblr media
Sorry I took so long I just wanted to catch up on some shows I’ve been missing out on and prepare for college next month- but I got to work on Yang! Who honestly was SO HARD TO MAKE A REDESIGN! And even HARDER, make a CRITIQUE for.
RWBY Archives
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Reading her archives she’s reminiscent of a pilot and that’s a pretty odd choice, her design should’ve been at least a skier or a party girl but whatever. She’s never hinted at wanting to learn how to fly an airship, she just drives around a crappy motorbike in Mantle at best. It’s misleading but again, whatever. Jaune dresses as a knight and I don’t expect him to protect anyone, Weiss dresses as a princess but isn’t ruling a kingdom, Yang dresses like a pilot and I don’t expect her to fly an airship when she can just leave it up to Maria and Pietro. But other than the odd aesthetic for Yang, the outfit does look moderately warm with a cool bomber jacket, an orange scarf… and an exposed thigh. Accompanied by a white tube top that just wouldn’t be practical to have in the Great North. I get it, they said aura can keep the characters warm but is Yang really wasting her life-saving aura to be fashionably exposed rather than just, wearing warmer clothes? This outfit can work if she is solely stuck in Mantle but she’s a huntress taking missions out in the tundras!
Tumblr media
There’s not a lot of heat generators out there to depend on!
Hair
Tumblr media Tumblr media
No, I’m not going to critique the model, her model is fine. I just wanna talk about her hair. Yang has her hair unchanged which is in character for her, she’s pretty strict about her hair being left untouched. I just really think the hair gets in the way of putting Yang in yellow. Trust me, it is. Yellow is very bright and Yang has such large yellow hair with weapons that are two large yellow chunks. I can see why they barely put Yang in yellow anymore. Here’s the thing, they’ve made Yang’s hair no longer yellow but instead an average blonde, the same tactic they did for Blake so they could put her in pure black except they didn’t. To me, Yang isn’t defined by her large yellow hair, she’s defined by her hair shining bright like fire. If they need to cut her hair or just have her hair in a ponytail to put yellow in her yellow, please do so!
Primary Color - Yellow?
Tumblr media
I love how her bomber jacket is auburn-red for Ruby, I adore the white tufts on the jacket for Weiss, and I certainly love that more black in on the look for Blake. When she stands next to Blake it looks like they should be a pair… just wished Blake wore yellow/gold in return- but with her teammate's colors on her, I still think Yang has too many colors. She reads to me as muddy and unfocused with the different shades of brown all around! And worst of all they rely on dirty gold-brown and orange to compensate for yellow. Yang IS NOT wearing yellow, at all. Remember when I said I liked her auburn-red jacket? I bet you didn’t know it was supposed to be auburn-red, cause in the show, it’s brown. This is something I’ve been wanting to say for years. In the concept art, they show Yang’s gold matching her hair to be more in line with yellow. Even in the 3D model sheet, the colors follow the concept art with actual auburn-red, tan skin, and a brighter yellow for her weapons. In the show, the colors are just muted or completely changed. Yang’s weapons are now an ugly shade of yellow; Highlighter Yellow. Her jacket is legit brown. The pretty tan is now ugly beige. I don’t understand… her model follows the correct colors but in the show it’s different! Is it the lighting? Was the model tweaked and I’m just using a faulty image? What is going on??? They can put her in the prettiest colors that flatter the gold but it all gets washed out! They need to put Yang in colors that flatter yellow cause this engine or lighting isn’t working.
Negatives?
Tumblr media
Yang’s look isn’t great or awful, she’s a neutral positive. Yang does have the second-best look on her team even with silly exposed leg and chest, and lack of yellow. In the end, I think the biggest issue with Yang’s Atlas design is the coloring I mentioned above. They keep making Yang wear anything other than the color yellow and when she does have yellow on her the animation engine turns her yellows into the ugliest shades of it! Highlighter Yellow, Brown, Dirt Gold, Sandy Beige, and Dull Yellow. Whatever is going on with the lighting or model, It seriously needs some tweaks or adjustments, I hope in Vacuo where it’s super sunny and bright, her yellows can pop rather than be muted.
Redesign
Tumblr media
I understand that yellow is super hard to work with for Yang so here’s the trick, put her in minimum yellow than NO YELLOW AT ALL. I took inspiration from Emerald Sustrai’s Atlas look since she wore limited green but still stunning, and from Mami Tomoe from Madoka Magica where she has limited yellows because of her hair. The least amount of different colors on Yang, the better. Her aesthetic is a motorbike fun girl which I might’ve flopped on, her sleeves are rolled up on her jacket, she has a large purple scarf with an Ursa pattern on the end to help her allusion of being Goldilocks and the three bears, and since she’s the mom/big sister of the team I thought it’d be nice for her to have some of her teammate's emblems on her as patches for her pouch. To top it off I loved Yang’s socks in the concept art that I wanted them to poke out of her boots. It’s not perfect but a good blueprint for me if I ever want to return to this redesign and make a few changes.
Conclusion
Tumblr media
Yang’s Atlas outfit is again, a neutral positive for me, despite the odd aesthetic of being a pilot to the bizarre colors on her, she’s fine. I just expect Yang to wear yellow, and I also expect her to look like she belongs with Team RWBY since none of her teammates wear yellow in return. They rely too much on Yang wearing browns and oranges rather than yellow, the presumed teaser image for Volume 10 seems to have Yang in yellow by putting her hair in a ponytail. That way the large yellow hair doesn’t act like a cape, comparable to Ruby’s large red cloak. I always think Yang’s design could work if she just had tweaks of colors if anything else, don’t be afraid to put her in yellow, and don’t be afraid to ditch a color of hers even if it’s a staple to her design. Yang doesn’t need to wear brown, and she doesn’t need to wear orange or lilac. The less colors, the better. I’m tired of Yang always coming out, wearing brown, and reminding me of potato sacks.
But of course it’s just my opinion. If you love this design or hate the design, please share your opinion. I’d love to hear it! :D

Your thoughts on semblances are fascinating! Have you pondered the possible semblance our favorite war machine magical girl Penny might’ve had? If she’d had the time to discover it for herself. Thoughts on why she didn’t have a semblance?
i think the answer to why she never manifested a semblance is probably right there: she was built to be a weapon of war. the atlesian military built a robotic super-soldier and then gave it the soul of an idealistic young girl who just wanted everyone—including herself—to be safe, free, and happy. she was was kept isolated and taught to expect harsh rejection from anyone who found out she wasn’t a “real girl,” then murdered to make a political statement, then brought back and isolated again and made responsible for the safety of an entire city where civilian self-defense is criminalized. whatever her semblance might have been, penny wasn’t going to find it while being crushed in the jaws of that machine.
this is not true of every character, but it is true of a lot: a character’s semblance often reflects or represents how they deal with problems. when ruby’s on her game, she thinks miles ahead of anyone else and zips around obstacles like they’re not even there—when she isn’t, she falls apart and runs away. yang takes whatever life throws at her and finds strength in adversity through sheer refusal to give up. blake knows how to mask her vulnerability and retreats from things she isn’t ready to face, but when she is ready she’ll fling herself headlong at the problem with everything she has. jaune doesn’t care what happens to him, but he’ll do anything for his friends. ironwood will sacrifice whatever it takes to achieve his ends, no matter the cost. et cetera.
penny is a character so defined by the unstoppable force-meets-immovable object struggle between duty and desire, what she needs to do versus what she wants to do versus what she’s able to do, that i feel any semblance posited for her has to speak to that somehow or another to feel right for her.
how does penny deal with her problems? how does she try to extricate herself from between the rock and the hard place?
tries to have the rock and eat the hard place too, mainly. penny needs to be the protector of mantle and she wants friends, which the protector of mantle “doesn’t have time for,” so she tries to befriend everyone up and down her chain of command. but when the chips are down and penny has to make a choice, she chooses to do what she wants—holds her best friend in her final thoughts so she can say goodbye, rather than take the pragmatic/strategically correct option of giving the magic to weiss.
and. there is also: “let me take the relic to salem, and maybe she will call off her attack on the kingdom.”
penny is at best passively suicidal in v8 and i do think that influences her thinking here, but also—it’s safe to assume team rwby looped jnor in on what went down in ironwood’s office, including salem offering the terms of her siege, because oscar’s response (“i don’t think we can trust salem to actually do that”) suggests awareness of what salem said (“the people of atlas have suffered enough; surrender the lamp and the staff to me, and they needn’t suffer any further.”)
everyone else takes it for granted that salem is lying through her teeth. penny does not. she doesn’t take salem at her word either—maybe she will call off her attack—but she is the only character who even considers that salem might have been honest. as the winter maiden, penny is also the one who gets final say over whether or not that vault is opened, and it is her responsibility to decide. her instinct, in this situation, with this burden on her shoulders, is to spend a lot of time quietly thinking about it in the corner while everyone else quarrels, and then hesitantly question the assumption that salem cannot be negotiated with. oscar shuts that down and yang adds “no one is turning you over to anybody” (notice how penny goes from active subject to passive object there? “let me take the relic to salem” -> “no one’s turning you over.”) so nothing comes of it.
but it’s uh. probably not an accident that Penny Polendina is the first Good Guy to consider taking a risk on salem.
and i think it’s instructive to imagine how things might have gone if penny put her foot down and said no, let’s really talk about this. because “let me take the relic to salem” does not mean “let me deliver the relic to salem on a silver platter and then lie down for cinder fall to kill me” necessarily, penny is thinking in terms of a bargaining chip, and this is penny we’re talking about. penny is not a pushover penny is absolutely, one hundred percent, the kind of person who would have flown up there with the staff and very bluntly demanded to know Why Salem Is Doing This and Will She Really Leave If Penny Gives Her The Staff. and then done her level best to explode the whale if she didn’t find salem’s answers persuasive.
which—bringing this back to the question at hand—is sort of the distilled essence of how penny Deals With Things when she’s acting in accordance with her own best judgment. see also, amity, and “i can fix this,” and holding up an entire satellite on her shoulders.
she does not do half measures or harm reduction or damage control; she does i can fix this. she does maybe i can get salem to turn around and leave.
unstoppable force, immovable object.
so what’s her semblance? how do we convey this essence symbolically? (there is the obvious answer of just taking “immovable force” literally, but i don’t think penny would have a combat-oriented semblance for thematic reasons.)
have you ever heard of the pinocchio paradox? it’s a variant of the liar’s paradox (“this sentence is false”) occurring when pinocchio says “my nose grows now”—if it is true, then his nose does not grow, which means he is lying, which means his nose does grow, which means he is telling the truth and so forth. there is, i think, some appealing thematic strings to pluck here in that it’s a fairly common trope in science fiction for artificial intelligences to be stymied by liar’s paradoxes; penny, being a person, would not have this problem. likewise she is honest to a fault whereas pinocchio is, famously, a liar. and infinite regress is an unstoppable force of a kind.
what’s the immovable force? how do you solve the liar’s paradox? there are many ways, some more interesting than others, but one is to reject the bivalent logic and conclude that the statement is neither true nor false. take the excluded middle road. if the unstoppable force is true-false-true-false-true-false in a vicious spiral, the immovable object might be equivocation. maybe. it depends.
i tend to think penny’s semblance would entail splitting the difference in some form or another. the thorny piece for me is deciding in what form and context, because again i think for thematic reasons it can’t be combat-oriented. some way of refusing a fight is conceptually interesting to me; something like creating a space or a moment where violence isn’t just not the answer but isn’t possible. maybe a sort of reverse of gus caspian’s semblance, a wind that banishes volatile feelings and brings emotional clarity. an answer to “i do not like it when friends fight.”

Thought of something...tasty for the Rebirth AU. How will Jaune react to seeing this universe's Cinder? Either young or after beacon
How about I do it in a slightly different manner~?
Those Amber Eyes
Jeanne: Hey, Jaune. What ya watching?
Jaune: Look for yourself.
Jeanne: Hmm? A video on, Atlas Specialist’s; Why would you watch a video about them?
Jaune: Look closely.
Jeanne: Hmm…?
Jeanne: …
Jeanne: Wait… That one with more red, then the other’s! I-Is that…?! No way…
Jaune: Yep, that there is, Specialist Cinder Fall.
Jeanne: She’s a specialist; Not some crazed homicidal maniac?!
Jaune: Nope, that’s my world’s, Cinder Fall. In your world she became a Specialist.
Jeanne: Wow… Was she any good?
Jaune: I don’t know… I only learned she was a specialist after I tore up the school, well your, Beacon I should say. So I don’t know if she good. But, I assume she would be, you have to be among the best of the best to be a, Specialist.
Jeanne: I remember that day. Man you wasted those guys. Shame I missed it, probably would have joined you in the chaos.
Jaune: You would of?
Jeanne: Hell yeah I would have!
Jaune: Okay… Why?
Jeanne: Oh, well I was sick of the guys; After you remoulded the courtyard with them, Rin, Nora, and I elected to have, Pyrros removed from our team, and had May take his place.
Jaune: You did that?
Jeanne: Yeah, we just got sick of, Pyrros, and Team RWBY’s antics, so we basically cut all contact with them afterwards.
Jaune: Was this all my fault?
Jeanne: No… No, no it wasn’t, well, maybe a little. But, you mostly just shinned a light on the problem.
Jaune: What was the problem?
Jeanne: A whole lotta stuff; The staring, the invasion of my personal space, the arguments over me. Ruben was the least troublesome one to deal with; He usually, just stared, and shadow me all the time. And, I mean, all the time. He never had a crush before so I don’t think he knew what to do. William, kept saying stuff like, ‘Imagine all the things we could do together with my families vast wealth.’ Basically he kept on trying to bride me with shiny stuff.
Jaune: Seriously; What did he think you were, some sort of hooker?
Jeanne: I should have gutted him like a pig… That little…!
Jaune: Whoops… Uhhh…? W-What about, Yin, and Blake, were they just as bad?
Jeanne: Oh those two were the worst! Blake kept trying to recommend those damn, Ninjas of Desire books to me! In hope to reenact those cheesy sex scenes!
Jaune: Saw that coming. And, Yin, what did he do?
Jeanne: He bombarded me with horrible, horrible sexual innuendoes, and third-rate pick up lines. The only jokes was him thinking those would work on anyone, much less me!
Jaune: And, what about, Pyrros; Why did you give him the boot?
Jeanne: …
Jeanne: Trust…
Jaune: Trust?
Jeanne: Yeah… The girls, and I started to stop trusting him after a while, we just didn’t feel comfortable around him anymore. He started glaring at anyone who got close to me, acting all possessive of me. He also started staring at me a little too much, trying to sneak a peak at me. I started changing in the bathroom to stay away from him. The final nail in the coffin came the day before you beat the crap out of the lot of ‘em up.
Jaune: What did he do to you?
Jeanne: Not to me, but to, Rin…
Jaune: Rin?! What did he do to her?!
Jeanne: He was trying to get her to kiss him. Kept pushing closer, and closer to her. Rin managed to keep him at a distance from her, and, Nora soon came, and Pyrros backed off, but, Rin was in a terrible state. Pyrros didn’t do anything to her, but the shock of what he was trying to do sent her semblance into overdrive. The three of us fled to, Vale for the day, and we went back to school the next day, we wanted to ask, Selma to have him removed from our team, and then you showed up.
Jaune: That bastard! I should have done more to him then break his aura!
Jeanne: Why do you think I wanted to be there.
Jaune: But, to do that to, Rin! She such a sweet, and caring girl. Why would he do that to her?!
Jeanne: I never asked, never really wanted to know why either. But, I think his persona of, The Invincible Man got to his head, and he started thinking stuff like, “I Pyrros Nikos, I can do whatever the fuck I want!” Fucking bastard… Would have preferred if he did that to me in all honesty, save, Rin the trauma of it all.
Jaune: And, because you would have flambéed him if he so much as touched you?
Jeanne: Hell yeah I would have.
Jaune: I would have liked to have seen that!
Jeanne: Yeah, me too.
Jaune: …
Jaune: Are you scared?
Jeanne: Scared, scared of what?
Jaune: Going to, Beacon, seeing who’s there? Considering we don’t know who’s going to be there, and all, you’re worried you might come across someone you don’t want to see again.
Jeanne: …
Jeanne: There are many people I want to see again… But, there are more people I hope to never see again. I can’t tell who might be here in this world. Sure, Pyrrha, and Salem are here. But, until we’re at, Beacon, anyone could be there! We won’t know if it’s Weiss, or William for at least two more years, and even if one of them is, Weiss, who’s to say, Ruben, or Yin aren’t here, instead of, Ruby, and, Yang! I don’t want them to be here, I want your Team RWBY, Pyrrha, and my, Rin. I want this to be the happier life you didn’t get to live. But, I don’t know what’s going to happen, and that scares me… I’m scared of what might happen, Jaune…
Jaune: I see… Tell me, what do you see in, Cinder’s eyes, Jeanne?
Jeanne: Cinder’s eyes?
Jaune: Yeah, what do you see?
Jeanne: Amber…?
Jaune: Besides the incredibly obvious; what can you see?
Jeanne: …
Jeanne: Pride… Pride in… In herself for becoming a specialist…?
Jaune: And…?
Jeanne: Hope…? Hope in what she can become, and could do for others…
Jaune: What else do you see?
Jeanne: Joy… She’s happy that she made it this far…?
Jaune: Pride, hope, and joy… I can see all of that, and more in her eyes. My, Cinder was filled with rage, hate, and sorrow… That’s all she ever had in her. But, this… This isn’t my, Cinder, she’s something else, someone else. I hope I can meet her one day, I’d love to get to know her.
Jeanne: W-Why are you telling me this?
Jaune: Because, Jeanne. No matter what it is, what we may find, and encounter; It can be that bad. We have no idea what we’ll face, but as long as we face it together, it can’t be that bad.
Jeanne: Jaune… You’re a hopeless goofball…
Jaune: True. But, still relax, Jeanne, we’re together in this, and no matter what comes, we’ll make sure we have a better life this time.
Jeanne: Promise?
Jaune: Arc’s promise.
The twins soon enveloped one another in a deep hug, as the stay on the couch to watch a movie.
But, unbeknownst to the twin, one figure stood hidden in the shadows, over hearing the tail end of their conversation. He smiled softly as he saw the pair comfort one another. But, his smile fell as those words his son spoke echoed in his mind over, and over again.
Acheius: ‘This life…’ What the hell do you mean by that, Jaune?

One thing I noticed when Jaune was telling the story about his trip with Alyx, was how we seemed to get upset when she strayed from the story he knew. At the beginning, he realizes he is the Rusted Knight, and he’s largely ok with it. He knows his role in the story, and is prepared to play it, get Alyx home, and move on with life.
But it’s not going like the story! Two people fall, and Alyx is mean as a wet panther. But that’s ok, the story still works with two people, still holds up with an unpleasant main character, he can still play his role. However, Alyx meets the Herbalist she doesnt trust Jaune anymore.
Now, everything is flipped upside down. How can he play the rusted knight, when Alyx doesn’t trust him, won’t follow him, and isn’t doing anything she’s supposed to be doing in the story? What is he supposed to do??? Why is she doing this??? What had he done wrong??? How could this happen???
He’s desperately upset, trying everything he can to get Alyx to follow the story, because that’s what he’s supposed to do! He knows knows fix everything, if she would just play her part! But she doesn’t. She’s an outside source, blocking him from the fundamental purpose of his role, not unlike Team RWBY beating the Red Prince, and thus ruining his role.
When the Red King was beaten, and when the Prince was beaten, it shook the very grounds of their reality. They don’t know what to do, because they have a role to follow!!! What are they supposed to do??? Why is this player cheating??? What had they done wrong??? How could this have happened??? They know what to do, if she would just play her part!!!
The creatures of the Ever After need a role in the story in order to function.
But Team RWBY doesn’t have this problem. They do have a role, but not one in this story, so when it’s interrupted they don’t physically break down the way the Ever After citizens do. The people of Remnant don’t have a set path, a role that never changes, a story that must be followed.
But Jaune does. Just like every other citizen of the ever after, Jaune has a role, and he must play it.

Saints of the Sword (v1-2)
(I am going to very BLUNT with this statement, even though it seems like it... THIS IS NOT an everyone betrays Jaune fic. There is much more going on including Jaune's own low sense of self-worth.)
“Ms Denois.” Goodwitch gave Jeanne a nod, before returning her attention fully upon Cardin, “You have made a request to speak with the Headmaster, and as you have completed the… favor he requested, I shall take you to see him. Is it to be all of you?”
“No, just myself.” Cardin answered, “The others will see about our horses, and storing our gear. We do have accommodations available here, correct?”
“Yes, those arrangements have been made.” Goodwitch replied, “We have three dorms set aside for you and your group. Two are next to each other, one is across the hall from the others.”
“Thank you for the hospitality.” Cardin replied very formally, “One of our number is in need of rest, could him and two of ours be directed to these room?”
“Of course.” Glynda looks over her shoulder and spots teams RWBY and JNPR standing there looking rather shocked. Glynda could guess why, but it didn’t matter. “Ms Nikos, please come over.”
“Yes Professor.” Pyrrha called back, as she started to move forward. Her partner Jade also started to move forward.
“I only require the assistance of Ms Nikos, Mr Hedera.” Glynda commented her tone and firm. Making it obvious to anyone with in earshot that it was not a request. Jade paused and latched onto Pyrrha’s wrist. “Is there a problem, Mr Hedera?”
“Jade, let go.” Pyrrha hissed at him. “I warned you not to touch me like this.”
“Have Etienne, and Jean, go with him.” Cardin leaned in a whispered into Jeanne’s ear, as they waited for the scene to play out. “Don’t trust her, don't use his name, and don’t let her see his face.”
“I don’t trust them.” Jade openly admitted, without saying what his reason was, even though he did reluctantly release his grip on Pyrrha’s wrist.  “I don’t feel Pyrrha should be… alone with, such obviously, rough individuals.”
“I can handle myself, Jade!” Pyrrha snapped.
“Got it. Are you good with doing the meet up solo, or you want someone?” Jeanne, whispered in response as her blue eyes watched the altercation.
“No, I’ll be fine. Get our stuff stowed, and Jaune taken care of… that’s more important than backing me up at a stuffy meeting.” Cardin replied, his voice still barely above a whisper.
“Mr Hedera, enough of that childish behavior.” Glynda gave the young man a look. “While you may have misgivings about these individuals. I do not. Ms Nikos will be perfectly safe while in their company.”
“Got it. What about this cluster…” Jeanne asked, her voice also almost inaudible.
“Let them work it out.” Cardin continued to whisper while shaking his head at the display. Jeanne nodded, and leaned away from Cardin before turning and moving over to their comrades.
“Etienne, Jean.” Jeanne called the pair over. Jean, hesitating before leaving the side of her charge. She was quickly replaced by Sky Lark. When they pair reached her, Jeanne leaned in and whispered their instructions.
“You two are going with Jaune. Make sure he’s comfortable. Don’t trust her, don’t let her see his face, and don't call him by name around her. Got it?”
The pair nodded, and Jeanne gave them a quick nod, they made their way over to replace Sky who returned to working with the horses. Jeanne waited and watched as the scene between Nikos and Hedera finally played out, with Nikos walking away from him and directly towards Jeanne.
“Ms Nikos, please escort some of their group to their lodgings, here.” Glynda showed Pyrrha her tablet, listing the rooms set aside for Cardin’s crew. “You know where these rooms can be found. Correct?”
“Yes Professor.”
“Thank you.” Glynda returns her attentions to Cardin. “Mr Winchester, if you would, I shall take you to the Headmaster.”

Team BLGA
Quick disclaimer, this is so late because Tumblr wouldn’t let me reblog this post! I had it all written down and hit reblog, it showed that it took, but it somehow didn’t. It took me way to long to figure that out. And then when I tried again, this time from my own reblog, it wouldn’t take. Neither @dragonotaku-justineverything or @madmanwonder posts worked. No matter what I’ve tried, I can’t add to the post. So I’ll add on anyway. Rant over. Now just pretend that this is underneath the afore-linked post.
Haha, this is great! We’ve seen how they dynamics can get with just Bleiss, now all of BLGA? I feel bad for Glynda. Aspirin can only go so far with headaches. Ask me how I know. Bleiss hates Weiss already so all the rest of the swaps would only amplify that. And it would totally be an Ozpin move to have RWBY and BLGA next door neighbors while JNPR is still across the hall. What do we want? Conflict! Where do we want it? EVERYWHERE! I can see some others asking Jaune how he deals with practically living with all these girls and he’s all, “well, it’s not too different from home. Living with seven sisters gives you plenty of practice. And don’t get me started on my cousins.” Perhaps that’s why he’s so dense with their affections; he’s in “survive family chaos” mode so he’s ignoring it. The things you don’t realize as you’re growing up. That and his lack of self-esteem would make him mistranslate their advances as we’ve seen with Pyr.
These are just a few side things I had for them.
Bluby
Now I know that if Bluby and Yue exist then Ruby and Yang wouldn’t and vice versa, but for this I’m just going to ignore that fact for the time being. Bluby being reserved and not speaking unless spoken to outside of her few friends and family is great. Her confidence in front of others can be a front, a shield she developed to hide her insecurities. Part of her arc is learning to trust others and letting yourself be vulnerable. She learned how to be sneaky with how Yue is. She’s elected as leader to force her to make decisions for the benefit of others? Not sure what her Semblance would be. Being reserved and growing up fast could lend itself to a similar speed type, or a partial invisibility. Maybe a misdirection type since Jack Sparrow is so good at that. Shinji Hirako from Bleach had a nice ‘Inverted Sight’ Shikai. She can make friends with Jaune at first because she marks him as easy to use for her own benefit, like Jack does with Will, until she learns to be an actual friend.
Bleiss
With how much stuff there is of Bleiss, I don’t have much to add here but did have a thought while thinking of the others’ Semblances: Glyphs are a rare genealogy Semblance and if she’s Jaques’ bastard, should she not have Glyphs since he’s not a Schnee? If she’s Weiss abandoned twin then sure, but it was a thought. I can totally see Jaques abandoning her as soon as she’s born showing his dark hair, an Oedipus situation where the father demands the newborn be killed but is abandoned instead. While it wouldn’t change much in her personality or lifestyle if she was a bastard vs abandoned, unless there was some weird twist of fate where she does gain Glyphs it would change her fighting style. And her team, I’ve always seen her leading the Malachites, Neo, and Neon. Putting her on BLGA would make an issue there, but putting Neon or Neo in charge could balance that out. Neon can still be old friends with Bleiss to keep that connection with the teams. NNMM, Nutmeg? Names are not my strong suit.
Yue
Yang is a boxer and a brawler with a temper out for a good fight, but Yue is more calculated and in control. Kickboxing is already covered by Mercury who is just as calculating and cool but doesn’t fight for anyone really, but what about Muy Thai? Strike a nice balance between the two. For her, I’d give a Semblance that’s centered more on reflecting or redirecting damage than absorbing it. I doubt that Yue would want a motorcycle because they are more dangerous than cars. Having a bit of a control freak personality and learning to tone it down is a start for her arc. Perhaps she’s a little overprotective as well, bit of a helicopter parent without realizing how damaging it could be? Keeping a strong front that needs no help even when she really does is great. She could also put a lot of stock in strength like Raven, because to her if you’re not strong you can’t protect those you love. Which leads to Yue, like Raven who she despises, to overlook some of the other kinds of strength to add more internal conflict. Ignoring your feelings isn’t healthy Yue. I can see it being a game to Yang among others to see how to get Yue to laugh. No Yang, just because you love puns so much doesn’t mean that it’s the height of comedy. All pranks do is annoy her if done to others and piss her off if done to her or her friends. Perhaps something simple gets her like, “What does the cabbage man use to repair his cabbage wagon? A cabbage patch!” I’ve used that joke in real life and it never fails to get most people rolling. She is very weak to cute critters.
Aiko
Maybe have their mothers being twins, making them cousins who could pass as sisters. Heck to add more to it, how about their dads are brothers from another family. She could be the one to out Blake as a Faunus for more conflict. She gives Aunty Kali updates and tries to get Blake to call herself. Despite her more carefree personality and daydreaming habit, she’s easily one of the smartest students. Much to the surprise of everyone. A bit naïve, not stupid. I love the idea that she reads comics to Blake’s books, but what if she leans more towards shojo manga. She can be still cool with normal comics, but most comics I see are geared towards guys and manga can easily fill her romantic fantasies. She and Jaune could have dance offs after she learns he can dance. Since she’s more extroverted and confident than Blake, a ninja theme just doesn’t fit with her unless we’re talking Naruto or something. How didn’t he die being a walking traffic cone? Yeah, yeah, plot armor, I get it. My first thought is make her a Samurai, but we have Adam for that. Unless we make Aiko a foil to Adam as well, with his code centered around rage and bloodlust while hers is love and protecting. “Hate only begets more hate. To stop the cycle of violence we must embrace love!” “…You stole that from Naruto.” “But it’s not wrong!” If not a samurai, then how about akin to a Sohei or Ikko-Ikki? They’re a monk type, and Sohei use a naginata to differentiate her enough. I know there’s fighting styles that blend with dancing but I’m trying to keep to the Japanese theme with her. Then again she’s got that Middle Eastern Belly dancer thing and I could be way off base here. She could mix and match a few things. I’m coming up blank for her Semblance. Part of me wants to give her sakura petals but Ruby already has the petals motif. Unless that’s her perfume or a design pattern on some of her clothes. Best guess at current is that she hasn’t discovered it yet. She’s a lover not a fighter, so it’d make sense she spends less time on introspection and aura training. I don’t think Roman had his and he was fighting all the time. “But what is she doing in a school to kill Grimm?” Killing Grimm is just pest control to her. Great spot for her to go all out. And since she doesn’t have lone protagonist syndrome, she can remind Blake of some things that Blake tries to ignore or gloss over. For example fighting for Faunus Rights is good, but remember Blake that there have been many times throughout history where Faunus were Faunus’ biggest enemy. Like have a time where there was serious predator/prey discrimination or even subspecies discrimination within their own kind, a good part of certain slavery rings were supplied by Faunus warlords, what some of those same Faunus did to their own human and Faunus slaves, some of the barbaric traditions they used to have, and other things. I can see the White Fang, or certain parts, ignoring those uncomfortable facts to better push their agenda.
Ying
Depending on if, a big if, Ying is added and how Bleiss is teamed up, Team BBNT would also be in a bit of a spot. Unless madmanwonder has a replacement for Bleiss? The other two are fun. It’s easy to cut her out to reduce the chaos and even some things out, but had some thoughts so I might as well put them out there. Jaune is the only one Ying trusts with her hair. Where Yang has a fiery aesthetic to her Semblance, what if Ying has a lightning one? Just to show how much more dangerous and volatile it is. She can be lowkey jealous of Yang/Yue because they were the one who got to live with a unconditionally loving and supportive parental figure, roof over her head, three square meals a day, easy access to clean and hot water, not on the run from authorities for a life she didn’t chose, proper education, had professional doctors, could make friends who wouldn’t literally stab you in the back over a slice of bread, and what not. Sure Ying might be a better fighter but she’s really lacking in civil life where fists don’t work. B(B?)NT and NNMM as JNPR neighbors while RWBY and BLGA are across the hall? Poor hallway.

Tumblr media
You simply cannot convince me that Summer and Qrow aren’t actually Ruby’s parents.
• Qrow has always been much more protective of Ruby than Yang. He’s always been much closer to her. Despite the fact that technically (if Summer and Tai are Ruby’s parents) Ruby is not actually Qrow’s niece.
• Ruby exhibits no resemblance to Tai. Yang very clearly looks like both of her parents, but Ruby looks just like Summer. Which is of course a thing, but she inherited Qrow’s personality in many ways.
• Summer and Tai getting together and having a daughter less than two years after Raven left just seems so unlikely to me. Their relationship is confusing if we believe the information that’s been presented to us at its shallowest level, and everything we know about Summer would lead me to believe that Tai is not her type. At least not right away. And then how were she and Raven still friends or at least cordial in the Volume 9 flashback?
•Also, the way Qrow assumes authority over Ruby even in Tai’s presence and the way Tai yields makes me think that Tai respects Qrow’s rights as a father.
•I think it’s possible Summer and Tai began to fall for each other as they raised their children together, and I think it makes sense for Tai to love Ruby as his own. He has raised her on his own. Perhaps that’s even the source of the tension between Tai and Qrow and explains Qrow’s drinking and pain surrounding his semblance.
• not to mention, Ruby’s last name isn’t Xiao Long because Tai ISNT HER DAD. Also, it explains why Qrow is always coming around even though he and Tai clearly don’t enjoy each other’s company. He would want to watch Ruby grow up, and Tai wouldn’t take that away from him regardless of his personal feelings.
• But the one thing I can’t figure out is why Ruby wouldn’t know. Why would Qrow not have raised her? For what reason did Summer and Tai raise their children together? Perhaps Qrow’s semblance? In Volume 4 he says it makes things hard on his family, and you can tell there is some DEEP rooted trauma there. Also, Team STRQ is known to have made some very poor decisions when it comes to emotions and relationships in the past, so why wouldn’t they think it was a good idea for Qrow to pretend to be Ruby’s uncle? I mean, they kept Ozpin’s secrets their whole lives in order to avoid panic and disorder.
I want more info on the dysfunctionality of the Xiao-Long-Branwen family. Did something happen that is related to Summer’s disappearance? I feel like this information is about to revealed to us.
Ruby had to go through the transformation she did in Volume 9 so that she can handle the fucking bomb that’s about to be dropped on her in the coming volume(s). They are setting us up for a major development in the STRQ past that is somehow going to be directly linked to how they defeat Salem.
Team RWBY has continually made better decisions than Team STRQ did at their age which will show us why STRQ has failed to defeat Salem and why RWBY can.
(Me hoping to god Rooster Teeth doesn’t ruin RWBY by making too many volumes, but also trusting them to do the right thing for the story, because they have always prioritized its natural development.)
There is a Harry Potter level of complexity to the relationships between all the characters and the story that doesn’t make it into the script. (I mean just look at how much depth they gave to Neo and Torchwick without Neo ever saying a word and Torchwick barely even interacting with her on screen.)
I don’t care that Miles Luna said Qrow is not Ruby’s dad. That was five years ago. I think the show has brought us here in a way they might not have intended it to.
Sorry that’s a disorganized mess, I’m just spewing my thoughts. Moral of the story: I am excited about all the ways volume 9 left us uncertain of the story’s next steps and I cannot wait to see where they take us next.

I really must wonder, what had you invested in the Brother Gods of RWBY? Most people I lurk seemed to just sign them "assholes to be kicked in the nuts" after the Ozma's task reveal. What matter brought you to be rooting for the Brothers, especially their feud, with GoL's side and why? Can you tell me about your insight on the characters of those Brothers and why you think so? These are very genuine questions with genuine curiosity have a nice day drink your water regularly
It never occurred to me to question your genuine curiosity. You’ve shown nothing but sincerity so far.
But you’ve asked a very difficult question, by asking me to compare myself to others. What a minefield.
Obviously, I think I am correct; else I wouldn’t think what I do, and I would change my mind to think something else.
So, if I think something different from the majority, and I think I am right to do so, how do I justify this without supposing myself wiser, smarter, or more compassionate than the majority?
Misotheism
You’ll find advocates who won’t tolerate hearing a single criticism of Team RWBY, and will dismiss any as misogyny. You’ll find critics who can’t say a single good thing about Team RWBY, and for all I know they might well be misogynist. Some of Jaune’s worst critics might be misandrist.
So, maybe the worst critics of the Two Brothers are misotheists -- people inclined to hate gods or any personages in godlike positions of power and authority.
I’m certainly not a misotheist, so I’m not predisposed to hate the gods. I try to judge the gods according to their own actions, as well as according to their perspectives and intentions.
Just Sibling Things
One factor of my sympathy towards the Two Brothers, and the Older Brother in particular, is that I myself am an older brother. My younger brother and I are “Irish Twins”, in that he was conceived relatively shortly after I was born, and so most of our lives we have been roughly equal in size, strength, and skill.
I know what it is like to disagree with such a brother, and to do everything in my power to bend him to my will, including the final resort of violence. I know the ultimate futility of changing someone else’s mind with appeals to reason, appeals to emotion, or even threats of force, and thus the importance of achieving a good relationship based on respect and compromise.
I was also the more creative one, and my brother the more destructive one, though my brother was nowhere near as terrible as the Younger Brother. Unlike the Younger Brother, mine was by far the more sociable of the two of us, so I have an inkling of how the Older Brother couldn’t bring himself to kill the Younger Brother and leave himself alone in the universe... assuming such a feat was even possible for the two of them.
“No” Means “No” (but it doesn’t mean “I hate you”)
I also grew up respecting my mother’s authority and trusting in her love for me. I learned early in life that my parents had limited resources and couldn’t give me everything I asked for, or even everything that they wanted to give me without being asked.
Mother would certainly try to explain herself if I asked Why, but she made it clear very early that she would never tolerate whining or tantrums. If I could not request for something politely or offer a polite counter-argument, the answer would automatically become “No”. Because she wanted my brother and I to know how to persuade other adults by the time we had become adults.
Thinking More Than One Step Ahead
Some people have what I think is called “Phase 1” thinking, where they can only imagine the immediate reaction to an action and they stop there, content that their goal is achieved with no consequences.
For example, they look at how the God of Creation, at best, only bowed his head and turned his eyes away in sorrow as his brother murdered the first humanity. (Some fans don’t even bother to remember that much detail, because it contradicts their headcanon that the Brothers are equally at fault.)
Their Phase 1 thinking is that the Older Brother should have intervened to protect humanity, and then the whole thing would just magically blow over with no consequences.
Phase 2+ thinking is recognizing that is a childish fantasy.
1) There is no way words would have stopped this war. Words didn’t stop the God of Destruction during the divine war; limited violence followed by words of reconciliation did.
2) The Younger Brother was rearing for a physical fight just from the Older Brother barging into his room to enforce the rules they had agreed upon. For his brother to assault him after humanity did, and to do so while actually breaking their rules himself*, there’s no way the God of Destruction wouldn’t fight back. *(At least, it makes absolute sense that their original agreement would include “If they ever choose Destruction to the point of trying to destroy US, then I win our Destruction versus Creation bet and I get to destroy them.” Followed by the canonical compromise “best two out of three; I get a second chance to show they will choose Creation”.)
3) A divine fistfight between gods who can casually destroy a planet is going to result in far more collateral damage than when there was no planet for the God of Creation to worry about. As Ozpin told Pyrrha “You’d only get in the way”, but Remnant had no power to flee from the fight like Pyrrha could.
4) This isn’t the first time the God of Creation has been helpless to save his creations from his brother destroying them. This isn’t the first time his heart has been broken. Sectors of the fandom live to talk about psychological abuse and the ways that abuse-victims try to protect themselves from more pain, and they’ll forgive Cinder’s abuse of Emerald because of Cinder’s own past of abuse, but somehow that doesn’t apply to the God of Creation who NEVER WANTED things to get this bad.
The God of Life has a pool of immortality just laying around waiting to be used, and his brother is the God of Death, and people place equal blame on the God of Life that his equal and opposite demands that people die.
Because the God of Death resurrected ONE mortal out of envy for his brother and for his own flattered ego, that somehow erases the fact that he’s logically the ultimate reason why Ozma died in the first place, and it means that Salem didn’t actually need to hear the explanation she didn’t want to hear from the God of Life about why he couldn’t afford to bring Ozma back even though he wanted to.
Phase 1 thinking. The next phase would be realizing that if the Older Brother hadn’t intervened, the Younger Brother would have found himself constantly inundated by humans begging for their loved ones back, and when he would inevitably refuse, they would begin shouting at him like Salem shouted at his brother, and like others certainly shouted at the Older Brother many times before Salem.
And I don’t think the God of Destruction would have responded to angry demands as gracefully as his brother.

Yknow, I still struggle to understand what is it qrwby & ornj were afraid of happening that they were all unanimously fine with lying to Ironwood about info, conealing which could change their whole purpose of staying in Atlas. And at what point exactly, just what big bad/good reveal were they waiting for to pop out that would make them fully trust/distrust him?
Like I get that they wanted to play it safe after Lionheart and Ozpin fuss but ffs James has been an ally since v2 and has repeatedly risked his life for the same cause as you. Maybe yall should tell him that whatever his plan to "destroy" Salem is, it's set to fail, and all of you know why. Why act in accordance to Ironwood's orders, why deplete Mantle of the resources it desperately needs, which you explicitly express condemnation for, why build Amity Tower, why tell the world about this immortal, potent, malignant being striving to destroy the world, if you all know it'll all be in vain? The longer you guys keep this hidden, the less time you'll have to come up with a real working ass plan to save people, Salem's not gonna wait forever ffs. In their place, I would have told him when he promoted them to pro huntsmen. But no, even then there was this uncertain something that kept all of them from telling him.
Yknow if they really wanted to go for this "trust issues" subplot, I think it wouldve been cool if the mcs split in their opinions about their course of actions to the point when while Yang & Blake + Nora play among us and divulge info to Robyn, Ren in turn has decided to tell Ironwood what they'd been hiding because the former has self awareness and had his own turmoil he had been toiling in and doesn't want to make another mistake that he knows could cost them thousands of lives. He had a promising setup for this that got thrown out of the window in v8. That'd be the real drama, instead of "good vs bad", it'd be "us vs us oh shit i think im starting to get why ozpin was so distrustful of his own allies". That or Qrow not acting like he and James are total strangers and trying to talk his way into understanding James' reasoning to not trust the council, which might've convinced him to work together toward a better solution.
Yeah once more I think it speaks on the philosophy of “don’t do it or go full in”. Basically Go Big or Go Home lol
Either have RWBY and Co. be fully honest with Ironwood and go from there or yeah show the divide in the group and put great emphasis on that.
Yang, Blake, and Nora trusting Robyn more and focusing on the struggles of Mantle while Ren and maybe Weiss focus on helping Atlas and trusting Ironwood while Ruby and Jaune struggle with being team leaders and Oscar with becoming Oz.

Jaune desevers Choice
Jaune does not need the relic of destruction. First of all, let’s talk about the sword itself. The sword might as well be the last thing our heroes should ever take out of its vault or let Salem have. Considering it might as well be equivalent to a Death Note and a God of destruction. Summon the spirit, give it a name or a specified target and it will destroy what you desire. I’m saying anyone can use this sword and become all-powerful.
Now here’s what your thinking, “Our heroes need the relic to beat Salem.” right? But let’s look at the details here. Ozpin was reincarnated multiple times. He found each of the relics and used them to where he knows the rules and the spirits who reside in them. So wouldn’t he already have tried and failed to kill Salem with it? Because she’s immortal. What other purpose would the sword serve? Nothing. So why does Jaune need it?
Now, why Jaune doesn’t need the sword of destruction? That’s simple. Jaune already has enough power due to his semblance and aura alone. He just needs time and training to learn how to use them. However, that's only the secondary reason. The primary reason is Jaune is more deserving of the relic of choice. After all, his choices seem to be beneficial to everyone instead of sabotaging them.
Jaune in volume one, started simply as a boy going in way over his head. He got bullied but instead of quitting, he decides to ride it out. However, when his team was in trouble he stood up to his bully and resolve his situation. This was the first set of choices that resulted in his team not being set up for failure. If Jaune allowed Cardin to get away with his miss doings, Jaune’s team would have lost respect for him and worse Cardin could’ve gotten them into trouble.
In volume two he could have taken advantage of Weiss’s rejection from Neptune and used it to finally dance with her. But he didn’t. Instead, he chose to help Weiss by talking with Neptune and his choice helped everybody have a great time. Not only that it helped Jaune to be open-minded and think about others and their feelings. Volume four and five I will not discuss because Jaune’s decision-making was more based on emotions.
However, in volume six, despite there being other options, Jaune choosing to steal an Atlas airship was still a good suggestion. I mean, that plan by RWBY standards actually could have worked, flawlessly if Adam didn’t show up out of anywhere. Regardless of the outcome, his choice helped everyone get to Atlas in good condition.
Finally, in volume eight, though I do wish Jaune had a hand in a lot more, I will still give him some credit. Jaune telling everyone to split up, for now, was a good idea considering everyone was arguing back and forth with one another. Then Jaune took advantage of the war to look for Oscar and that helped them escape and gain a new crew member. (Still don’t trust her though.) And even though I still can’t stand the fact, that he killed Penny, Jaune still saved more lives than Team RWBY. By giving the maiden powers to Winter, Jaune not only prevented Cinder from taking both the powers and the relic, but he also gave the evacuated citizens a better chance at survival.
Every time Jaune calls the shots somehow it is more beneficial for others around him than with Ruby. Yes, Ruby is the main character and the primary leader of the group but her decisions always seem to lead to disaster than prosperity. Not only that Jaune, whether you know it or not, proved Jame’s and Clover's words to be true. The right choices are the hardest to make and sometimes you have to make the tough decisions. And what better way to see those choices unfold than with the relic of choice itself?
If what we know is to be true, the crown can see into the future. Allowing someone to see the possibilities or outcomes of his or her choices. However if not used properly or abused could cause the user to go insane and be numb enough not to make any choice at all. But for Jaune that is a risk worth taking.
Jaune always kept his eyes forward. Even after Pyrrha’s death, Jaune was still willing to follow the path he chose and become a huntsman. 'But after failing to save Penny Jaune could become more determined to stop Salem. So if he were to use the crown he will not care for the outcome as long as his friends are happy. Even if he might not be there to see it.

Penny plan.
So when I listen to penny song Friend I realize something: The song wasn’t a goodbye song, it was a gratitude song to Ruby, nothing in the song was sad: the reason the song is so emotional is because it got release after Penny second death.
Now if the song got release after Penny second death, why is it so happy? The last time we have a song release after a character death was in v3: The song Cold which was release after Pyrrha death and unlike Friend the song was very sad and was about Jaune grief about Pyrrha death.
Well here’s why:
The song was about Penny and how she was happy she finally made a friend: Ruby and how she feels alive when she with her and how she was happy to meet her. the song talk about her life and everything that happened to her.
Then we have this verse:
“But I found that humanity  It came with sacrifice,  A pact  To shield you from the  Wicked even if I can't  Live for real  It was worth it to know you”
This line is about what happened in the last episode of v8 “The Final Word”:
“But I found that humanity it came with sacrifice a pact” penny realize that being human is also meant to sacrifice yourself for something and the sacrifice she made was clear: losing her life in order to protect the maiden power and her friends: “To shield you from the wicked”
Then there is this line:
“even if I can't live for real it was worth it to know you” At first it look like Penny saying goodbye to Ruby but when you look at the details in the song and the episode you can see its not that:
1. Penny believe that Ruby died, that means that when Penny told Jaune to kill her she thought she will see Ruby again
2. look at the line: “EVEN IF I can't live for real”. wouldn’t it make more sense for Penny to say “ ALTHOUGH I can’t live for real”? giving that she know the reason she got back the first time was because of her core, something she saw that was gone, meaning that she know she won’t come back this time.
Well here’s when the plan part come in.
When Penny tells Jaune to kill her she tells him to trust her.
Trust her in what? Why Jaune wouldn’t trust penny to do the right thing? unless it something that Jaune don’t know if it work.
There also was a long moment of silence when we didn’t hear anything it was right after penny told Jaune to trust her. the whole scene look like Penny told something to Jaune, something that we can’t hear because it will reveal something big. and we only will know it when Jaune will talk to team RWBY about what happened.
Now what was her plan? to empower her aura with Jaune semblance so when she will pass her power to Winter she will go with it and she will be in Winter brain until they will be separated “I won’t be gone, I’ll be part of you”. When she pass the power to Winter the aura color wasn’t green, it was gold: Jaune aura color, look closely and you can see green there as well so it was not a color mistake.
Penny have a plan but she don’t know if it will work.
“Even if I can't live for real”
She took a risk just like how her friend took.
And in V9 first episode we get the answer that it work, but not like she was planned it:
“(off-screen) Ruby! (pause) Ruby! (pause) Ruby!”
That the first thing that ruby heard when she wake up in The Ever After, now it seems to farewell the scene when she heard Pyrrha in V4 but there is one different: She didn’t know that Penny died so it doesn’t make sense for her to hear Penny in her head.
The song Friend is from Penny view and it happened after she died meaning it was her thought in the moment. And because of that she got to Ruby head instead of Winter.
Then there is her sword which was made from maiden magic and disappear when she got attack by Cinder and was confirmed by one of the designers to not be able to exist without the maiden power, so it most likely that Penny have a little of the maiden power and was able to make the sword for Ruby before she got unconscious.
When Ruby is in the bridge in the opening she look like she lost it which most likely what she would believe when she will hear her again in the bridge, after all Penny isn’t Ozpin she didn’t got curse by the Gods to be immortal, so why she would hear her in her head, unless she believe she got insane.
