The Mountain Is You
Ch. 1: I've become a figment of my imagination
Dom!Ghost and Dom!Price x Sub!Reader
I'm making this one official. (Chapter 2!)
CW: Dom/sub, bondage/discipline, pain play, spanking.
Explicit/NSFW/MDNI
Ghost had been the perfect introductory level Dom. You’d started visiting the office of Life Connect 141 after a referral from a friend, and he’d had many of the qualities you’d been looking for in a partner.
He was anonymous and discreet. With his mask on, you never had to worry about bumping into him in the grocery store or bringing your car into the shop and finding out the man operating the nut driver had whipped your ass raw and called you his perfect little dove as you gargled incoherent sounds around his fingers.
He was quiet, too, and had a way of making you feel comfortable. His commands were issued in crisp, clipped tones that were easy to follow and get right. Yes. No. That’s it. Again? You even heard his voice in your dreams and used it to ground yourself when you needed motivation or a tether to the present.
You replayed your most effective scenes in your mind in the same way you imagined some people pictured the ocean or listened to bird songs.
The pulsing heat of your backside tucked tightly in a pencil skirt, combined with his languid ‘good girl’ echoing through your mind, was enough to make your panties wet in the middle of a board meeting or standing on the platform at the train station.
And his aftercare was more than sufficient. Although, to be honest, it bordered a bit on the cold side. Rehearsed in a way that felt like he was only going through the motions. Counting the minutes before whispering, That’s my time, hon,” in your ear as he helped you to your feet.
He was there for you, but he didn’t need you. It was you who sought out his services. He’d done his job when you left feeling refreshed and confident to tackle whatever chaos awaited you in the world outside his office. He was a professional, and you were a client.
He wasn’t cheap, either. Your self-care budget had taken a backseat to more pressing responsibilities, and it had become more and more difficult to make an appointment. He’d become quite popular and needed to be booked further and further in advance. You didn’t always know if you’d be in the right headspace when he was available, but you didn’t want to give up your place in the rotation.
But it wasn’t for any of those reasons that you called to cancel your future sessions and take your name off the last-minute openings list. He didn’t do anything wrong. It was all you.
You’d trusted Ghost, worked up a relationship where he knew what you wanted and gave it to you exactly how you liked it, with a sniper’s precision. At least until your latest session, when you desired something a bit...more.
Work, and life in general, had been especially stressful. A guy you’d started seeing from the gym had turned out to be a complete creep who stood you up on your second date, and spammed your phone for three days when you didn’t accept his apology or his offer to reschedule. And your assistant had left for an unexpected medical leave and her temporary replacement didn’t know how to answer the phone.
You were patient. You were kind. You were tired. And now, on top of everything else, you needed to find a new gym.
It’d been a few months since you’d been in to see him, and you were severely overdue. It was a recipe for disaster that, had you been a more experienced Sub, you may have been able to avoid. Never go to bed angry? Never visit your Dom when you were on the edge of spiraling out of control.
You were in your usual position, bottomless with your hands bound with his silk tie behind your back, ass presented to him on the faux leather sofa and your black lace panties in your mouth. The mirror in front of you gave a view of the mirror behind you. A 360 degree look at the crimson blood flowing hot under your fevered skin, the Hitachi vibrator strapped between your thighs and the dark figure at your back orchestrating it all.
Everything was perfect. Except that with each crack of the leather crop against your tender surface, you didn’t get any closer to the relief you sought. You’d hit a wall, right on the cusp of that rapture you chased like a fiend. Like a starving animal running down a faster prey with the last of its strength.
Pain had always been a curious thing for you. Walking barefoot on the beach, the sharp rocks and shells against the arches of your feet were tactile and exhilarating. The punishing ache of a deep tissue massage was more satisfying than the gentle glide of hands on your skin.
There were times your whole body felt like an itch you couldn’t scratch. That it needed to be flayed off or burned away, grown anew like antler velvet or snakeskin.
When he counted his twentieth whack, and you weren’t there yet, you whimpered with frustration. The slickness at your core dried up, and the precipice of your orgasm disappeared from reach. Just as you teetered at the top of the mountain, you slid back down to the bottom with a hopeless crash.
“Color, pet?” At the unfamiliar sound of your distress, he stiffened behind you and moved quickly to pull the fabric from your mouth.
“Green,” you pleaded, tears flooding your eyes unbidden. “Please. Give me a few more. I was close.”
“We already did three rounds of twenty. I can’t go any further today.” He kept his voice hard and controlled. “Don’t want to scar this sweet, perfect ass.”
He slipped a glove off one hand and reverently grazed his knuckles over your welting hide.
“I’m renegotiating. Please!” You weren’t above begging. Not like this. Not when your blood ran hot enough to burn and sweat dripped between your breasts in desperation.
“No.”
“You think I’m weak, is that it? That I can’t take it?” Your ire sprung from your helplessness. Not the physical surrender that you’d craved, but the impotent kind that left you empty and unfulfilled.
“Careful, dove. Talking back to me like that.” He slid his gloved hand along your cheek to cup your chin, turning you up to look at him. Deceptively gentle as he gritted through clenched teeth, “You know better, don’t you?”
“What are you going to do about it?” A fresh flare of anticipation fluttered through your belly, and settled low, where your bare cunt cradled the head of the vibrator.
Fathomless eyes narrowed back at you with calculation from the openings of his mask. The skull painted in place of his face sized you up in a fraction of a second before he let his hand fall away.
You squirmed under his scrutiny, clutching the smooth, hard plastic tighter between your thighs, rutting against the only point of contact you had left. Willing it to be more and feel better than it did.
He sat silent, watching you struggle for what seemed like hours as your shoulders cramped and your knees shook from the constraints of your position.
“Help me?” You begged again, running your tongue along your pouty lips. Hungrily eyeing the zipper of his black dress pants. “I’ll do anything you want.”
Finally, he fisted a handful of your hair, pulling tight and sharp. The sting both too brief and too late.
“You know the rules.” The sympathetic slant of his head and the soft honesty in his tone pulled you out of the scene once and for all.
You did know. For all of its merits, Life Connect 141 also had its limits. It was a business, and it came with strict guidelines. No sex and no blood. No exceptions. Safe, sane, and consensual. Sanitized and structured.
Except none of those things were going to get you where you needed to be at that moment. So, you did something you never thought you’d do.
You tapped out, muttering your safe word and pulling the plug. He’d never given up on you before, but the clock had run out, and any further discussion was just a waste of his precious time.
The only indication he’d even heard you was a curt nod of acceptance and a clipped, “Alright,” as he untied your hands and rubbed some life back into your arms.
“Dove?” He was concerned, and probably looking for his own reassurance.
Too humiliated to melt into his thick, tattooed arms, or to accept his offered ice pack for your battered backside, you simply dressed silently and shook him off with a faked smile.
“I’m fine. Really. See you next time.” With not an ounce of truth.
You didn’t know the etiquette for breaking up your Dom, so you were surprised when you got a call barely an hour after you’d canceled. Thinking it was a last ditch sales pitch to keep you as a customer, you let it go to voicemail.
But instead of a generic, “What can we do to keep your business,” you were greeted with Ghost’s voice instead.
“It’s me. I’m just sorry that things ended the way they did.”
Why was he apologizing? You’re the one who'd made a fool of yourself. Pushing him for things he couldn’t give you. As if you were more than just a transaction to him.
“I’d like to take you out for a drink. There’s someone I’d like you to meet. He can do more for you than I can. I think you’ll like him. I wouldn’t trust my best girl with just anyone.”
You couldn’t help but roll your eyes at that, even as it curled your toes. He probably said that to all his Subs.
“Call me back. Please? His name’s John.”

There was no salvation for a heart that was on the verge of breaking. No call could replace the sensation of a lover’s whisper, no video could replace the feeling of skin against skin nor of a warm and reassuring embrace. The myriad of details that made you who you were seemed to be slipping through Seonghwa’s fingers, and he was a desperate man drowning in quicksand of responsibility and routine.
Every chord was a strike of the coldest and sharpest blade on his tired body, and the sweat trickling down his face as he yelled his emotions to thousands masked the tears that were welling in his eyes. It was unbelievable, how in the faces of millions the only features he could ever make out were those that resembled yours. In every cheer he could only hear you, how you could make his name sound like magic. The lyrics – a simple selection of syllables, words, always fell short of describing how he felt, and every song appeared trivial compared to the fire in his heart, to your existence in his life.
Too many miles separated you, and he would be damned if he were to say that he was fine with it. This was the unbelievable curse of his work. An artist, a singer, a musical innovator who had evolved from being in a group of hoodlums with a dream to being in a star-studded collective, a band that was paving the way for many others and inspiring loyal and new fans to reach the stars with them. But where was his star? Even when surrounded by the speakers, side by side with his friends on those grand global stages, this question never left Seonghwa’s mind. Losing sight of what he truly desired, he ran into an oblivion.
After the concerts, it was customary for the young man to spend some time with his fans, still on an adrenaline rush and thus were expecting interaction, further connection, and insights into the most recent performance. However, tonight, he could not even begin to find the energy to press the right button. Claiming that he was feeling a little under the weather, Seonghwa delegated the role of publicity man to another member and hobbled to his hotel room, collapsing onto the bed sheets not caring for the state of his clothes, his hair, nor for the creases that were undoubtedly going to form. This was no issue.
The electric guitar, his trusted comrade in composition and emotional turmoil, was left in a black case on the floor. Stickers marking the cities he had visited decorated a portion of the surface, while the rest was another depiction of you. Scurrying off the bed, he erratically shot to the case and brought it up with him, letting it rest by his side so he could admire the artwork more closely. Over many days, you had decided to surprise him by painting the dark leather, echoing famous renaissance pieces and intricate flora. Impeccable, incorporating nods to his and your lives through symbolism, be it in the hint of a star ship, a guitar pick, or a paintbrush hidden in foliage, it was a reminder of a life that he always wanted to live and to keep close.
He wanted to destroy the walls of his room. He wanted to break the glass, fight the agony of the sorrowful monster eating away at his soul with physically radical action, anything to take his mind away from the fact that you were thousands of miles away, and that when he was cursed to be awake, you were in dreamland. He could not even protect you from the nightmares that you sometimes had. He could not keep you close. You were unable to run your hands through his inky black, long and tousled locks as a way to calm yourself. Why was he doomed to sacrifice the heavenly touches and sweet words in favour of roaming the globe like a madman, screaming the same things into a microphone until they lost all meaning? Seonghwa missed you. Violently. Painfully. Aggressively. If it took raising hell to elevate him to your heaven before he would ultimately crumble, he would choose to do so in a heartbeat.
His hands inadvertently travelled into the pocket of his flared jeans, fishing out the device which he had been glued to for the full duration of his tour. At any spare second. Lockscreen – your smiling face, surrounded by the scenery of his hometown when you two went for a visit over the holidays. Tapping in the date of your birthday, he came face to face with a photo where you two were together – a candid picture snapped by his closest friend and fellow band member during a celebratory dinner; you two laughing at a joke shared between yourselves, so in love that every part of you and him were intertwined. Seonghwa wanted to break himself apart. Take his heart and mind out and douse them in cold water so that at least for a moment he could have some space to breathe before ultimately repeating: you, you you again. Fingers flying to tap onto the messaging app you preferred to use most often, though the two of you had conversations going on almost every piece of social media, he scrolled through your chats, relistened to the voice messages and scrutinised every photo until it was re-imprinted in his brain. As if he could ever forget in the first place.
He would likely be a laughingstock, wouldn’t he? A man with the world at his feet, wanting nothing more than to collapse at the feet of another. Sure, his fans were no strangers to the fact that there was ‘a special someone’ in his life, though since he made sure to keep his private matters truly secure, no one knew who was the reason why he woke up even when the day was promising challenge and turmoil. The only sign of his undying devotion that he dared to expose with shameless pride was the tiny red band around his pinkie, a simple line alluding to the string of fate, of soulmates. One night, not too long ago even though it seemed that you knew each other for your entire lives, when you had the chance to spend time together without worrying about work matters and could let time trickle past while stargazing, he proposed. Perhaps it was not traditional, the four words uttered only in passing after you had already blessed him with your agreement. Instead Seonghwa had suggested the permanence of a tattoo as a symbol for your love, and revealed his faith and devotion. Written in the stars, he found his guidance in you. Just like the constellations, galaxies and mythical creatures permanently etched on his skin, he wanted to live the neverending story with you.
As he shifted his grip on the phone to glance at the red band, Seonghwa could not help but imagine what you could be doing right this second. Could you be stirring from sleep? Could you be getting ready for another day at work? How was that one personal project you picked up going? He hammered out letter after letter on driven by what had to be an external power, so much mightier than him. The rockstar bit his lower lip, feeling a tug on one of the piercings, but that made him simply bite down harder.
I’m losing my mind.
Without hesitation, he sent the message into the void, hoping that you would not be too worried and simply accept it as one of his eccentricities as an artist. Finally, he tugged off the leather jacket that had been clinging onto his body, suffocating him, and collapsed back onto the bed. Exhaustion was a beast weighing down on him and pushing him into the mattress. Nothing but a lonely carcass, Seonghwa imagined himself as carrion left for the devouring by devious promoters, producers, agents and the like. Freedom was an interesting concept in his industry. Did he have it? Or was it the case that as soon as he gave into a dream, he signed his very being away to be an offering for the money-hungry world? He was definitely going mad. He needed you. Seonghwa missed you. Feverish, anxious, he grabbed a fistful of the duvet with his free hand and counted the passing seconds, too many of them, but not as much as the distance between where he was supposed and wanted to be, and where he currently was.
A loud ringing jolted him out of his paralysing ruminations – his phone. He rolled his head to the side, and upon seeing the incoming video call could not be faster in wriggling to rest on the headboard and answer. So you were awake, and in a couple of seconds… there you were, hair in a loose side braid, a familiar vintage t-shirt adorning your shoulders. You were at the desk – your home office, cradling what had to be a cup of coffee. Black, no sugar, no cream. Nothing. Just how you liked it.
“Hi baby,” you greeted him with the warmth of a thousand suns, and soon enough, his smile returned to him too, though still a little weak, beaten down by the weeks spent apart. It was still dark where you were, while for him it was already dark. It was easy to face when with you, however – nothing could be brighter than you.
“You’re wearing my old clothes?” Seonghwa could not help but ask, too curious to refrain from the inquiry. You looked down at the shirt momentarily before lifting your head and nodding.
“Yep. There’s been a change of plans so I am working from home today. And… I wanted to have a day-long hug from my fiancé.”
“You always wear them better, and I wish it were me and not the tee, angel,” he sighed, eyes trailing down what part of you he could see. He might be wrong, but you appeared to be a little tired, dark circles more prominent under your gorgeous eyes, and movements a fraction more lethargic than how they would usually be in the mornings.
“Is that what you were losing your mind over?” you attempted to lighten the mood, but Seonghwa could not play along when the joke was a reality. You caught onto this quickly enough, and paused to look at him more closely.
Seonghwa could feel the intensity of your inspection. It was as though you were reading him like one of the many books you had collected. Basking in the attention from his lover, he leaned further back onto the pillows and let himself think out loud.
“We have another flight tomorrow.”
“Yeah, next is the third to last concert, right-”
“I want to fly to you,” the young artist cut you off, staring at nowhere in particular as he voiced his one wish.
“It’s not too long now, Hwa, and then we have a whole month to ourselves. No touring. Home.”
“I miss you.”
“I miss you too, love. But also, I am proud of you. You are bringing dream to reality-
“Fuck what I’m dreaming. What does all of this mean anyways?” he retorted, making you raise an eyebrow before leaning onto the desk.
“All of this means that you are yourself. You are an artist. A light for so many souls. And if you cannot hear this, then let me remind you that I love you, the you who is so driven, so talented and so hardworking. Park Seonghwa who has been destined to become a star and give hope to millions. You are yourself, and that is what is so precious and iconic about you.”
You had a way with words. You always did. Stepping in when he was at his lowest and managing to drag him out of what he had assumed was an abyss, you were his biggest supporter, cheerleader, muse. When he was afraid to put pen to paper or deemed a melody worthless, you were the one to encourage him to experiment, try things out regardless, and with such strength that now it was a philosophy he abided by; it never hurt to try, and perfection was impossible. What was achievable, however, was satisfaction and happiness with the self. It was more than enough to try. And now, you were the one fearlessly bearing the catastrophic mass that was his worries with the last tour dates.
“Oh how dare you…” he mumbled, lips trembling ever so slightly as he pushed out the words. Involuntarily a mist settled over his eyes, and Seonghwa’s surroundings began to blur.
“No, baby come on, don’t cry, or we’ll be crying together. Let’s stay strong for each other, yeah? Like the dragon you have? Let’s leave the tears for later, and hopefully make the source of them a happy one,” you cooed, your own heart being torn apart as you witnessed your lover’s vulnerability, raw misery expressing itself as the hard exterior of a professional rockstar fell away. The hint at one of his many tattoos made Seonghwa’s mouth twitch into a tiny smile, an adoring gesture to remind your fiancé that you could draw each of the masterpieces from memory, having spent many nights tracing them with your digits.
“I-… Y/N I… I love you so much, you know that, right?” The confession turned query was choked, feeble, fragile, an offering made of the thinnest glass. One that you would protect with your life.
“Hwa, I love you too. So much…”
“Everything makes me think of you…” fatigue was evident, coating his vocal cords thick with a somnolent huskiness.
“Soon, you won’t have to remember me. You will have me in real time. Will you look forward to that for me?”
“Always.”
One topic, another, talking about nothing and everything at once. Trivial matters transformed into beautiful tales. In what had appeared to him to be no time at all, you had to rush into your first meeting of the day, while he was left a little less lonely in the hotel room continents away from you, with only his guitar and your reassuring love to keep him company. A hope, an excitement rekindled in his chest, bubbling up and flying across the bloodstreams into a tingling sensation in the fingertips, and a pleasant, hazy buzz in his brain. Caught between what had to be sleep and delirium, Seonghwa moved exclusively on instinct. In a few movements, he produced a tattered notebook and pen that had listened to his every confession and flipped it to an empty page before setting it down on the sheets.
Carefully, he took the guitar out of its case, and upon checking that it was properly tuned let a few notes hang in the air. The longer Seonghwa stared at the wall, the more confident he became in the fact that he could see you standing there in front of him, and as the words began to pour, it was you who he was confiding in. When with you, he was not afraid. When dedicating yet another song to you, he could not care less for the lack of rest, for how he greeted the dawn. He had a week until the last show, and he sure as hell was going to make full use of it.
The arena was silent aside from a few yells, before they too, succumbed to the suspense. The spotlights were almost blinding, and Seonghwa suddenly felt grateful for the fact that his image allowed for sunglasses. Elegantly perched on the bridge of his nose, they masked his anxiety as he adjusted his microphone, setting it back onto the stand while the rest of the band was exchanging glances and making the last checks before the grand finale, what he had decided would be the last ‘official’ song of the concert, and therefore the tour. Of course, the audience would ask for an encore. Of course, he would step right back out on stage to perform it – the act had already been planned in advance. But it was this song, one that he and his closest friends had spent night and day finalising, recording, even sending off to be made commercial, that would be his final word.
“Distance is measured in miles, and in how strongly you feel them. This is ‘Timezone’,” following the brief introduction, he momentarily shut his eyes and sucked in a shaky breath. In that split second, he did not exist. He was not on stage, he was home. Seonghwa could feel your hand on his shoulder and could float in your perfume. This was no different to how he would play for you in the living room – anything you wished for, he would either perform or learn on the spot or even create. So, maybe, just maybe, you will be able to hear him now, too. And how he was calling out for you, and was counting the seconds until he could see you again.
Only thing that keeps us apart
Is seven thousand miles, running like a mad dog
Only thing that keeps us apart
Is a different timezone
So fuck what I'm dreaming, this fame has no meaning
I'm coming home
Only thing that keeps us apart
Is a different timezone
A roar overtaking expressions of gratitude. With every bow the crowd grew wilder and wilder. Chants praising the song were unfathomably strong, and Seonghwa had no doubt that the videos would go viral. Would you see them? Would you message him after? He did not need the answers to these questions. Not when he almost dropped his guitar as he saw you standing backstage, arms open wide, a staff lanyard around your neck. He was thankful for how you did not mind his sweat-covered arms, his glistening forehead as he pressed himself against you. He was enamoured with how your lips fit perfectly together, piercings and all, as he planted one kiss after another, each one bringing him back to life. He was eternally devoted to every moment with you.
“I told you, soon, didn’t you?” He could not respond, instead choosing to nod lest he break down in the midst of his overwhelming elation, “same timezone…” you altered the lyrics – sunlight after a rainstorm.
“I’m home, Y/N,” he mumbled into your hair before pulling you even closer to him, arms wound tight around your body, fingers dancing on your back as though he was still in disbelief that you were here.
“Welcome home, my love,” he leaned into your hand that reached for his face, letting you cup it. With nothing to keep you two apart, Seonghwa let himself get lost in your eyes, the string of fate winding tighter and tighter until his, and your heart were both glistening in a healing gold, the hints of cracks sealed and more beautiful than ever, standing the test of time, of space, of dreams.

confidence building tips
i'm probably going to make in depth posts on a couple of these, so let me know if there's anything specific you want me to elaborate on. wishing love and prosperity to all <3
stand up for yourself. if you find that someone's talking down to you or making backhanded comments, shut it down politely. the first couple of times it will be hard but this will build amazing trust with yourself, which is an amazing boost to your confidence.
practice body neutrality. stop letting yourself speak and think badly of your body, it only inspires further insecurity. correct any mean statements you make about your features by replacing them with a positive. make a point of writing down things you like about your body and what your body does for you. stop consuming media that causes you to compare your body with anyone else's.
acknowledge your achievements. celebrate yourself when you've done well, even if it's a tiny achievement. you deserve to feel joy for the things you have achieved.
complete tasks. if you've set out to do something, do it. this will give you a little dopamine rush and relay a message in your brain: you can do it. being reliable is an amazing trait to have as a person and it helps you boost your confidence.
have a growth mindset. acknowledge your weaknesses and failures without labelling them as bad. anything you aren't good at is something to work on, not something to give up on and mope about over. resolve yourself to take small steps towards improvement everyday.
surround yourself with confident people. look at your friends and the people who you choose to keep in your life. do they encourage you to achieve your goals? do they strive to keep growing as people themselves? focus on building and maintaining relationships with people who make you feel secure in yourself and help you grow.
stick to your values and know what they are. don't give in to people pleasing anymore and work hard to live by the things you know are right.
have a balanced lifestyle. eat well, exercise, sleep properly and manage your stress levels. devote time to being productive, relaxing, engaging in spirituality and mindfulness, and spend time with people you care about. burnout is just about the worst thing for confidence, so take steps to avoid it.
practice positive self affirmation. tell yourself that you are beautiful, kind, confident, intelligent and strong. tell yourself that you make good choices. you're disciplined. you're amazing. people in your life love and admire you. remind yourself of these things until you believe it.
~*
i'm dealing with some medical issues atm, so i'm sorry for not posting yesterday. i'm trying to stay consistent even if i'm not 100%. thank you for the support so far <3

why did laurent start dating / having sex with maxime, even before nicaise found out? maybe this is something we find out in ch. 20, but throughout hiuh i’ve really struggled to understand or empathize with laurent in this area. you’ve mentioned him being self-destructive, or how it was good for his ego to bring a date in front of damen. but why did he feel the need to throw it in damen’s face when damen was the one who got dumped? why would he let maxime call him baby and walk all over his boundaries when this guy is a total stranger? i know some people have speculated that maxime is a uncle-stand in, but to me that doesn’t parallel bc there the abuse happened because laurent did (unfortunately) love and trust his uncle at the beginning, which enabled his uncle to abuse him. i’m honestly really trying to see where this sexual self-harm aspect of laurent comes from when it’s with a complete stranger who doesn’t seem to like laurent as a person or give him any real affection. he said sex was the foundation of their relationship, which seems odd for an ascetic person like laurent who even in hiuh canon doesn’t seem to have engaged in that kind of relationship before dating damen, when he was in a way worse physical and emotional state, unless i’m wrong.
i really, really hope this doesn’t come off as criticizing or accusatory in any way — it is your story and you can characterize laurent any way you want! to me it’s felt like this is the one area so far where laurent has been extremely defensive and refuses to take responsibility, even though it really hurt damen — not just being jealous, but being compared to maxime over and over again by laurent’s friends and implicitly by laurent himself — not to mention how it hurt nicaise. yes, damen had flings, but he didn’t try to replace laurent after two months or ever shove it in laurent’s face. and yet it feels like damen over-apologizes for ever asking about maxime or suggesting laurent’s behavior was harmful. i don’t see how damen could get over this massive insecurity when laurent appears to ridicule or dismiss him for bringing it up, like with the condom conversation or the pet name issue.
feel free to ignore this message, but always appreciate hearing why you chose a particular characterization!
hello! i get this question every once in a while so i thought i'd answer it today since we're about to be done with the story. i didn't take it as an attack or anything and it's a very cool question!
but why did he feel the need to throw it in damen’s face when damen was the one who got dumped?
in a way, reading your ask, i think you answered some of these things yourself. why did he bring maxime to a bunch of events knowing damen would be there? because he wanted the upper hand, he wanted to be seen as having moved on (remember that he thinks damen has moved on, too), because it's an ego thing. but why do it if he was the one who dumped damen? same answers, but i'd add that it's implied in the story that laurent was surprised and hurt by how easily damen went along with the break up. laurent brings it up, says he can't do it anymore, and damen just goes to work and never comes back. once again, in a toxic and insecure way, there was a part of laurent that wanted damen to fight for it, to say "wait, let's turn things around" or something. obviously, that didn't happen, and laurent interpreted that as confirmation of a lot of negative thoughts he was already dealing with (damen wants out of this but he doesn't know how to do it, damen's too "nice" to say that he wants out, damen is looking for excuses to start arguments bc he's trying to get me to end this, etc.)
this is not me justifying laurent in any way. was it childish and immature to bring maxime to events bc he knew damen would be there and he wanted, along with all the reasons listed above, to make damen jealous? yes, probably. is it petty? yes. is it ooc? i don't know. i think laurent does exhibit some pettiness in the books.
why would he let maxime call him baby and walk all over his boundaries when this guy is a total stranger? i know some people have speculated that maxime is a uncle-stand in, but to me that doesn’t parallel bc there the abuse happened because laurent did (unfortunately) love and trust his uncle at the beginning, which enabled his uncle to abuse him. i’m honestly really trying to see where this sexual self-harm aspect of laurent comes from when it’s with a complete stranger who doesn’t seem to like laurent as a person or give him any real affection.
this part of the question is a bit more complicated for me to explain. i 100% agree with people's complaints that in this aspect hiuh laurent is ooc (compared to canon laurent). in the books, he doesn't sleep with anyone but damen, so everything regarding laurent/other men is always going to be ooc in some way (unless it's non con, i suppose).
maxime has to be a stranger. maxime has to be someone laurent doesn't care about, doesn't value, doesn't respect. it would never work between them if maxime was not a stranger, which is ultimately what happens in the fic (let's, for a second, ignore the fact that they also don't work out bc lamen are in love lol). when maxime wants more, laurent cuts him out.
why does he have to be a stranger? because hiuh laurent's biggest issue in this story is that he can't be vulnerable enough to be loved and accept that love. he loved damen, but he couldn't get to a level of vulnerability that allowed him to explain himself, to show himself to damen as he really is, and without that a relationship can't last. when you feel like you have to hide parts of yourself from the person you love, eventually that turns into resentment and anger and hurt.
when he starts sleeping with maxime, he's not looking for another boyfriend. he's not looking for love. he's not sleeping with maxime because he's too horny to function either. he lets maxime fuck him because there is something to prove. and here I have to apologize because to me this detail was so clear during my writing process that I'm only now realizing I did not do a good enough job of integrating it EXPLICITLY into the story. what is there to prove? laurent has only ever slept with two people in his life and only damen was a pleasurable, consensual situation. so, here's the setting: laurent and damen break up, they go no contact, months pass, laurent is STRUGGLING (nicaise mentions this time and time and time again in the fic), laurent has no way of knowing that damen is also miserable, laurent has no way of knowing that damen hasn't moved on (damen is, actually, at this point in time, fucking other people). laurent isn't looking for love or dates or romance, but then maxime shows up and he gives laurent an opportunity to prove to himself several things:
he has effectively moved on from damen (in his mind, having sex with other people = the ultimate 'i'm done with damen" move)
he is in control. he has only had consensual sex with one person in his life, which gives damen symbolic power over him in a weird, fucked up way. or... maybe the word isn't power, but status. damen has a status in laurent's mind and memories because he's the first person laurent CHOSE to have sex with, the first person he loved and showed him it could be good, etc. as long as damen maintains that status, laurent will never stop thinking about him, will never have anything to compare damen to and say "see, it wasn't that big of a deal". which brings me to...
he wants to minimize damen. he wants dismiss what damen meant to him, what their entire relationship meant, so it can be easier to move on. how do you move on if you're thinking "oh I broke up with the love of my life lol"? laurent needs to tell himself what he had with damen wasn't unique, wasn't that special. he can have it again (the SEXUAL part).
needless to say, this fails. he has sex with maxime and finds that it's nothing like it was with damen because it's WORSE, because having sex with damen was having sex with someone who knew him and loved him and respected him. laurent has sex with maxime but he's still thinking about damen, he's still in love with damen, the same way damen is having sex with kyra or trying to date iris while thinking and missing laurent.
once this realization sort of sinks in (yes, he can have sex with other people, yet that doesn't erase damen's status in his brain bc damen was special for a bunch of reasons I'm not gonna type in here - THEY'RE IN LOVE, YOUR HONOR) that's when the self-harm comes into the picture. (this is discussed a bit in ch20 so SPOILERS but)
what kind of sex are maxime and laurent having? it's not the slow, gentle, love making stuff damen knows laurent was into. it's rough, it's degrading, it's not as pleasurable, it's a chore, it leaves marks. does laurent want those marks? we don't know. does maxime ask him if he does? we don't know. you can make it as non con as you want because the text doesn't go into detail.
the petnames. "why does laurent like it when maxime says it but not damen?" I don't think he does. he never gives damen a straight answer on this, but he does say that it makes him feel like a bimbo. it makes him feel slightly degraded. he says it wasn't terrible, but he never says he wanted it or that it was good. it's implied that damen tried it once or twice at the very beginning of their relationship, and I think we can all tell why laurent didn't like it back then with him either (bimbo feelings, laurent using him for money, the power imbalance, etc.)
uncle parallels. okay, this one's a bit tricky. yes, you're right to think that the abuse laurent's uncle subjected him to is nothing like his relationship with maxime for a plethora of reasons, but I think the narrative supports some people's opinions that maxime does resemble uncle in some ways (older, brunette, has a beard). i did not write maxime as a literal uncle stand in, so of course it's not going to be a perfect comparison. i wouldn't even call maxime and laurent's relationship abusive.
he said sex was the foundation of their relationship, which seems odd for an ascetic person like laurent who even in hiuh canon doesn’t seem to have engaged in that kind of relationship before dating damen, when he was in a way worse physical and emotional state, unless i’m wrong.
i tried to mirror canon in hiuh when it comes to laurent's... choices? in canon, damen is the first person he's with after his uncle because he's the only one laurent trusts. i don't have any doubts that canon laurent was terribly lonely and probably wanted to be loved waaaaay before damen came into the picture (post uncle, I mean) but his context and environment were so violent and dangerous that he couldn't let his guard down. similarly, in hiuh, laurent leaves his uncle's house without any money and in a very vulnerable position. he's not exactly carefree and happy and able to be like "oh I wanna date and fool around!! explore my sexuality!!!!" - in fact, this is a pretty big plot point in hiuh: laurent did contact damen out of pure necessity.
and yes, sex is the foundation of maxime/laurent for all the reasons I stated above, but at the same time it's not all about sex. it's not even about sex. it's about control and self-punishment. it's about self-hatred. we also don't know what state laurent was in when he started seeing maxime because we don't have his pov, but we do have nicaise's testimony. again, this is briefly mentioned in ch20, but it wasn't exactly pretty.
however, having said all of this, i'm not blind or dumb enough to think oh hiuh laurent is sooooo canon laurent, not a trace of ooc-ness. i get where the characterization issues are coming from. at the end of the day, I have to say that this post summarizes a tiny bit of what went into creating hiuh laurent. i tried to make him as canon as possible, but I'm not pacat and so my characterization is different. my setting is different. the modern au is different. it is completely fair to read hiuh and think as a reader "i would not have gone in this direction, i don't think laurent would ever be with someone who isn't damen, i don't think it's consistent with his canon self". i accept those comments in the same way i accept those that say they love this laurent bc of XYZ.
this is the one area so far where laurent has been extremely defensive and refuses to take responsibility, even though it really hurt damen
i understand this, but at the same time i don't know how much responsibility laurent can take over that when it's... just dating/fucking someone else after a break up. he should apologize for making damen feel bad on purpose (perhaps taking maxime places), but the rest of it... damen also fucked and thought about dating other people. the comparisons you mention were cruel, but they were made, for example, by characters like aimeric (removed from the narrative entirely later on) and ancel (who tells damen he was wrong, who tells damen he thinks laurent made a mistake letting him go).
i don’t see how damen could get over this massive insecurity when laurent appears to ridicule or dismiss him for bringing it up, like with the condom conversation or the pet name issue.
i understand that, but i also think damen's insecurity wasn't born just from this issue. he is an insecure person throughout the fic. his toxic masculinity is one way this insecurity and lack of self-confidence manifest, for example. his fixation on penetrative sex. his fixation on performance. his fixation on parenting like laurent because his own way is wrong. his fixation on never thinking about the things and people he lacks because he can't take it.
yes, laurent played a huge role in feeding that insecurity, but I'm failing to see where he is ridiculing damen. during the condom conversation, laurent snaps because he feels judged and attacked, not because he's making fun of damen's pain. during the pet name conversation, the same thing happens. and in both instances, damen is judging laurent. he judges laurent really harshly in other scenes, too, like when they find out about claude.
some of these issues are talked about in ch20, but I don't think there is a scene where laurent addresses everything. perhaps he should. i just didn't write it.
#anon#hiuh#ok so this got out of hand lol#hopefully this made sense?#i do think a few scenes in ch20 help us see that laurent is sorry and he says so but i dont know to what extent youll be satisfied with it#also i am working my ass off lmao im editing i promise i'm trying to finish it IM TRYING kjbsdkgbdskjgbkd it's just so long dudes#pray for me#pray for my ass bc im editing six hours a day#im so close to the end i can almost taste it#and YES FFS IT'S HAPPY stop doubting me#plot twist they dont end up together

I'm still working on chap3 (I have a bunch of unconnected little things, but I'm a bit stuck on how to connect them quite yet - but hopefully soon I'll he able to write and edit)
But instead I decided to write a "current day" slice of life fic, based on my AU, where they meet Charlie and the Happy Hotel
(some ideas came from @shizukasobsessions and my replies in the comments of my fic♥️)
There's so many different pieces here tho, lmao - like, Alastor killed Valentino and took Angel's soul to replace him as the overlord of porn, to prevent Angel from failing he gave him Husk to guide him on being an overlord, (Alastor refers to Angel as solely Anthony, the less he thinks of the pornography offshoot of their media empire, the better)
Vox is still the face of their company, Voxtek is still named after him (Alastor has no issues taking a more behind the scenes role, there's a reason he WAS the radio demon but mostly got that name from torturing souls on the radio, not by trying to force everyone to only listen to his radio show - he has no issues with Vox doing just that with television/hypnosis but he doesn't mind allowing him to truly embrace his cult-leader personality here. Vox is still his housewife behind closed doors, tho, Alastor just doesn't want to hobble him in any way)
So it's really funny to think Charlie is just dealing with overlord after overlord (and one former) as she's trying to run her hotel
I'm thinking in this AU, Angel/Anthony decides to let some of his employees stay and try out the whole "redemption " thing, as long as Charlie gives them a safe place to stay rent free - in my AU, Angel was originally owned by Valentino when Alastor killed him, so Angel not only knows what brings people to his studio, he knows he can't protect them all - hence his agreement with the princess of hell
However, Angel and Vox are friends (Husk's #1 piece of advice to him, while Angel was freaking out that his soul chain changed hands along with a bunch of new responsibilities, was "make Vox like you - if Vox likes you then you're almost entirely safe from Alastor, trust me, I know it looks the other way but it's not")
(Angel now does genuinely like Vox, and they get along pretty well, but he will admit - if only to himself - that he originally became his friend to prevent from being torn to pieces like he watched happen to Valentino)
Alastor still obviously doesn't believe in redemption, but the only reason he's there at the hotel is because Vox asked him to be (and Vox is there because Angel asked him on behalf of Charlie for some advertising for the hotel)
And @proshipper-on-ship mentioned the Chaggie parallels of Charlie finding Vaggie at a dumpster, and Alastor doing the same, and I thought it'd be really funny to have their first meetings come up
Charlie, awkward but trying to come to terms with the truly alarming amount of Overlords in her hotel: "So...how'd you two meet?"
Alastor, smiling as he finally can set up his punchline: "Found him in an alley and brought him home with me."
Charlie, super excited: "OHMIGOSH, that's basically how I met Vaggie!! How'd you find him?! I was looking for anyone to help after the Extermination!"
Alastor: "I sensed someone using my radio waves and immediately went in search of who."
Charlie, actively looking at Alastor like he's as harmless as a kitten: "OhEmGee that's so sweet! And you were just going to take him under your wing but then you fell in love?!"
Alastor, deadpan: "No, I was going to kill him."
Charlie, looking exactly like 😦: "What."
Alastor: "He wasn't a radio, though, so I decided to let him live."
Vox, with his screen in his hands: "Alastor, you gotta stop telling people that."
Alastor, thinks it's secretly very funny: "Why not, it's the truth, darling?"
I just love the idea that Charlie, for a second, thinks Alastor might be as soft and kindhearted as herself as she sees similarities in their relationships, and then Alastor just immediately breaking the illusion.
#long post#lmao sorry i got way off track here#also i can untag yall if you want but i wanted to credit since the ideas either came from or were helped to be developed by yall#Housewife Vox AU

Mediation - Chapter 2 - TIGmas Day #9
And now, with no further delay, Chapter 2 of @thedeadsingforme's TIGmas request! I've got a busy weekend planned, but then I'm off for a week, so I'm really hoping to sit down, shut up, and get the rest of this done!
Happy Valentine's Day, y'all! Enjoy a bit of (questionably) platonic fluff between Terry and Reader (y'know, when they're not arguing) for you to celebrate the occasion!
Previous Chapters: Prologue | Chapter 1

Mediation
Chapter 2: Diversion
---
– The next day –
Reader’s POV:
You are utterly exhausted as you drive to the precinct the next morning. You’d slept fitfully the night before, trying to figure out the best way to convince Terry to at least hear his former friend out. The tension between the two of them was overwhelming last night, and you’re more certain than ever that Terry’s obsessiveness and tendency to see everything in a firm, unyielding dichotomy stem from what he saw as Cash betraying his trust. Forgiving Cash – or at the very least hearing him out – is imperative for Terry to get the closure he needs to heal and move on. Rather than time working in his favour, his resentment and its accompanying anger have only grown during the years of his friend’s absence, and while you hadn’t been around during the initial months of Terry coping with the loss of his friend, you’d seen enough in the intervening years to know that his issues will only continue to fester until they’ve taken away everything wonderful about him.
And then there was Cash. While the time apart had made Terry grow bitter towards their friendship, the opposite seemed to be the case for Cash. You had only spoken briefly last night, but your conversation had provided a lot of insight into the man’s mentality. He was hell-bent on earning Terry’s forgiveness and repairing their relationship, seeming to attach all hopes for his redemption towards reconnecting with his close friend and former partner. The separation made Terry closed-off, paranoid, almost overwhelmingly protective at times, but Cash clearly liked to rile people up just to get a reaction out of them; anything at all was better than the silence he’s had from Terry.
You’d long wanted reconciliation between the two men for Terry’s sake, but speaking with Cash yesterday, seeing the pain in his eyes as Terry refused to engage with him… you find you want to help for his sake as well.
But how could you get Terry to listen to reason?
You’re not even sure that you should tell him you stuck around and spoke to Cash last night. He’d stormed off so quickly, you’d barely been able to tell him to call you and let you know he’d gotten home safely – it wouldn’t be the first time he’d disappeared for awhile while in a state of emotional turmoil.
But sure enough, there had been a message from his home number waiting for you when you got home, the red light of the answering machine blinking at you as soon as you’d walked in the door. His curt “I’m fine.” had upset you, but it wasn’t unexpected. You just wish there was something, anything you could do to get the two of them in a room together and have them hear each other out.
…You don’t want to think too highly of yourself, but it was largely your presence that had helped Terry somewhat return to his former self, both when you were brought on to replace Cash as his partner, and after the incident with Frankie and Devlin. If anyone could lead the big stubborn horse that was Terry McCain to water and make him drink, it would be you.
Pulling into your assigned parking spot beneath the precinct, you brace yourself for a day of intense observation – you’ll need to wait for the perfect opportunity to get through to Terry.
---
It isn’t until the late afternoon, driving back to the precinct with Terry after conducting lengthy interviews with several witnesses to a bank robbery, that you feel the moment is right. The interviews had been productive, you’d stopped for coffee at his favourite spot, and you had a good half hour on the road before you got back to the office.
“Hey Ter?” you ask, trying to sound casual and not nervous. You keep your eyes glued to Terry’s profile as he keeps his own on the road; you’ll need to look closely for any emotional response he may let slip.
“Oh no, what do you want?” Terry jokes, glancing over at you with an arched brow and an amused smile.
“I really, really want to talk to you about you and Cash.”
His smile fades, and his grip tightens so much on the steering wheel that you can hear his knuckles crack. You refuse to break the silence, giving him the time he needs to process.
“I thought we agreed that that was a subject not worth bringing up, Y/N.”
“I know, Terry, I know. But I just… last night I could just tell how much you meant to each other, and how hurt you both are, and I know you’re angry at him. I know –”
“You don’t, though,” Terry interjects, and you can tell by the deceptively soft tone he’s using that he’s really trying to maintain his composure and not tell you off. Part of you wishes he would; anything would be better than watching him bottle up his rage and never let it out.
“You don’t know anything about this, Y/N, and I want it to stay that way.”
“Terry, please, can you just hear me out?” you plead. “I’ve watched you struggle to deal with all of this for years, and I really think you need to just talk to him, give him a chance to explain himself –”
“Stop,” Terry hisses at you through gritted teeth, the word nearly coming out as a growl, and your words die in your throat. “Let me make one thing about Cash Ewing perfectly clear: he is selfish, he is deceitful, and he will go against anything and anyone if the price is right. The things he did…” he pauses to swallow thickly, clearing his throat.
“It wasn’t a crime of passion, he didn’t get caught up in the heat of the moment, he didn’t do it on a whim. He stole, he sold contraband, he did nearly everything he could to make a quick buck. He lied to my face for who knows how long just to line his pockets. I was his partner, his best friend for years, and he threw it away like it was nothing because he got greedy. I’m not even sure that I ever knew him in the first place.”
You take a moment to digest this information. As you had expected, Cash’s crimes had been relatively victimless; no violence or real, lasting harm done to anyone. No, you know that Terry’s real issue was the deception of it all. You wait until you hit a stop light before replying, reaching out to lay a comforting hand on his arm.
“I understand that he lied, Terry, and that it hurt you. But shouldn’t we give him another chance, even just to explain himself? He did his time, paid his dues, he seems remorseful and rehabilitated and –”
“How could you know that, Y/N?” Terry asks, turning to look at you fully for the first time since the conversation had started. His blue eyes were always so expressive, and right now you were getting a glimpse of the depths of his frustration and his hurt.
“You’re a good cop, sweetheart, but you were with him for all of two minutes last night; not even you can read people that quickly.”
The light goes green, giving you time to try to tamp down your guilt as you avoid responding. Unfortunately, with all of the time the two of you had spent together over the years, Terry could read you like an open book.
“You stuck around to talk to him after I left, didn’t you?” he asks in a broken whisper, clearly offended, though you can hear his pain beneath his words. “Didn’t you?!” he demands, and you jump in your seat despite yourself. Terry tried to only be intimidating to those who deserved it, and to be on the receiving end rather than a witness to it is incredibly overwhelming for you.
“Yes,” you admit in a broken whisper. Of course he would read into the situation as you lying to him; he couldn’t see that you had only withheld that bit of information because you knew it would shut down the conversation entirely.
“I can’t believe this! I can’t believe you!” he exclaims, eyes unblinking as he stares ahead at the road, the speed of the car approaching the unacceptable without your flashing lights being on.
“Terry, I’m sorry! I wasn’t trying to keep it from you, I just –”
“You just thought you could have one conversation with a convicted felon and take him at his word? Against everything I’ve ever told you about him?”
His phrasing implies he’s told you plenty about what happened with Cash, when nothing could be further from the truth. Still, you don’t call him out on it, knowing it wouldn’t help the situation.
“Answer one question for me, Terry: did he ever offer you an explanation for why he did what he did? Did you ever even let him try?”
“That’s two questions,” he points out petulantly instead of answering. You growl out a warning low in the back of your throat.
“No, I didn’t. I have no interest in listening to a criminal and a liar,” he informs you huffily, turning onto the street that led to the entrance to the precinct’s underground parking lot.
“People do the wrong thing for all sorts of different reasons, Terry.”
“And the courts brand them all the same.”
“So, what, someone makes one bad call and they’re meant to be labeled a criminal for life?”
“That fucker didn’t make one bad call, he made choice after choice. And yeah, in my book, ex-cons are still cons.”
You bristle at the way Terry dismisses any sense of nuance or humanity, painting anyone who had ever had trouble with the law with the same permanent brush.
“How can you judge everyone so blindly like that?!” you ask, your temper coming out. You know that Terry is stubborn, and that being betrayed by those close to him has definitely altered his sense of justice, but this complete inability to forgive or show any compassion at all is concerning. “We’re police officers, Terry! It’s our job to get criminals into prison to serve their time, not to condemn them even after they’ve been rehabilitated!”
“Once a dirtbag, always a dirtbag, if you ask me.”
“Well, sorry to burst your bubble, Officer Holier-Than-Thou, but Cash wasn’t your only partner with a criminal history.”
Terry stomps on the brakes before turning into the parking lot, whirling around to stare at you. You both ignore the honking of aggravated drivers all around you.
“Excuse me?”
“You heard me. But by all means, condemn us all to hell regardless of circumstance.”
You eject your seatbelt, tossing it over your shoulder, and throw the passenger door open, getting out quickly before Terry has any say in the matter.
“I’ll leave you alone, McCain – I wouldn’t want my misdeeds to taint your perfect record.”
You storm into the precinct, throwing some minor case files in your bag to work on at home and sticking your head into the Captain’s office, biting your tongue to maintain a somewhat pleasant façade.
“Are you alright with me heading out a bit early today, Sir? Those interviews were a doozy, and Williams always comes in early for his shift.”
The Captain waves you away, dismissing you with a nod, and you disappear into the elevator, taking the long way to your car to make sure Terry hadn’t anticipated your early departure and was laying in wait for you. Once you determine that the coast is clear, you quickly get into your car and drive away, wanting to mull over everything in relative peace.
---
You’ve gone through your typical strategies to blow off steam: a trip to the gym, a long, hot shower, and watching something mind-numbing on TV to drown out your own thoughts. But nothing has worked, and it’s been hours. You can’t get Terry’s words out of your head, or his stubborn refusal to listen to either of his best friends, past or present.
Why did the man have to be so damn stubborn?
You can appreciate that he’s been hurt, and hurt badly, but it’s clear as day that he needs to face this issue rather than allow it to eat at him, as it had been for years. For him to not even hear you out – you, the only person he says he trusts anymore – is unbelievably frustrating, not to mention incredibly painful.
Your phone rings and you ignore it, hardly in the mood to talk to anyone right now. Eventually your refusal to pick up the receiver triggers the answering machine, your prerecorded message echoing through your otherwise quiet apartment. After a beep, you hear a familiar voice.
“It’s me. You don’t have to talk, just let me know you made it home safe, alright?”
The call disconnects there, and you glare at the machine, refusing to let the tears in your eyes spill over. You’re so overwhelmed by all of this – anger, sadness, and frustration all building up inside of you until you feel like it’s going to completely consume you. You’re sure that Terry is feeling something along the same lines right now, too.
…And yet, he had put his emotions aside to reach out to you, just as he had last night. It proves he is still capable of compartmentalizing his feelings and moving forward, which is somehow even more infuriating since he refused to do it for Cash. Still, you should be grateful that he hasn’t extended his vendetta against Cash to include you at this point.
Taking a deep, calming breath, you move to the phone and hit number one, speed-dialing Terry’s number.
He picks up on the first ring.
“Hello?”
It takes you a moment to be able to bring yourself to speak.
“It’s me. I’m okay,” you manage to choke out in a hoarse whisper. You hear a sharp intake of breath on the other line, knowing that you aren’t fooling him, that he can hear your pain, and hastily hang up the phone before the sob manages to push past your lips.
What was wrong with you? You’ve gotten into it with Terry before, but you weren’t exactly someone to hold a grudge, especially not with him. Normally, you’d have forgiven him by now, but instead this is eating you alive, turning into something festering and unpleasant in your heart. Terry’s steadfast resentment seemed to be contagious.
It must just be because he was being so stubborn with this when you know that you’re in the right. Well, you could be stubborn too, and if it was a battle of wills that Terry McCain wanted, then that’s exactly what you’ll give him.
---
The next morning at work, Terry silently sets a lovely potted plant on your desk by way of greeting, a clear apology. You glare at the offending foliage, refusing to acknowledge its presence as well as Terry’s, turning your gaze back to your computer and continuing to type up a report. You can feel his stare practically heating up the side of your face, and he lets out a frustrated sigh as you refuse to engage with him, but says nothing.
You do your best to continue the silent treatment, but eventually the weight of his gaze on you proves to be too much.
“Can I help you with something, Officer McCain?” you snap irritably. It was your second day in a row of terrible sleep caused by trying to help the bastard see reason, and you were in no mood for drawing things out.
“Yes, actually,” he returns icily, giving you a challenging expression. “Meet me in Interrogation Room B, partner. I’ll grab us some coffee.”
He stands up from his desk and strides to the kitchen without another word while you glower at his back, brow furrowed. You try to turn back to your work but find yourself unable to focus and so, grumbling to yourself all the while, you storm over to the interrogation room, throwing yourself into one of the chairs and crossing your arms across your chest.
Terry enters the room a few minutes later, placing your coffee on the table in front of you, pausing briefly to seemingly take in your bad mood in its entirety before closing the door and taking the seat across from you.
“If you brought me in here just to tell me off some more, I don’t –”
“I’m sorry.”
Terry’s interruption makes your jaw snap shut, and you stare at him mutely. He takes it as a sign to continue.
“I’m sorry for yesterday, for the day before, for everything I’ve kept you in the dark about surrounding Cash. I didn’t want you involved, I didn’t want to talk about it, and I didn’t want what he did to impact my relationship with you. I still don’t. But you’re a damn adult, Y/N, and a friend, and you’ve done a lot for me, so I at least owe you some answers, some explanation for why I don’t want to engage with him anymore.”
Of all the things you imagined Terry might have brought you in here to say to you, regurgitating what you had been hoping he would say practically word-for-word was not one of them. You open your mouth, intent on speaking, but close it again, content to let him divulge what he is comfortable with. It would be a start, at least.
“Believe it or not, I am working on forgiveness for Cash, alright? I know it may not seem like it, but I want nothing more than to make peace with what he did and move on. I don’t particularly like the person that I’ve become since he went away.”
“You’re not so bad,” you offer, giving him an encouraging smile.
“But even if I do manage to forgive him, that doesn’t mean I’m going to forget what he did. I can’t forget, not matter how much I wish I could. I’m happy that some of the other guys are able to welcome him back with open arms, but he didn’t lie to them the way he did to me. I don’t see him the same way anymore; I can’t.”
He takes a brief pause to catch his breath and rein in his emotions, and you give him the space. His expression is forlorn, as though he himself is unhappy with his inability to give Cash a second chance, and you feel the urge to throw yourself over the table to console him. The poor guy had been through so much, had remained trusting and open to you despite everything, and you had jumped to your own conclusions and believed a perfect stranger over your best friend, the only person you trusted to watch your back out in the field. Who were you to presume to know what Terry needed?
“I’m sorry for keeping you in the dark about this for so long, but I’m asking you to trust me now, Y/N – please follow my lead here and believe me when I say that we’re both better off without him around,” he says, giving you a pleading look that has your remaining resolve melting away. You think back to what you had told Cash the other night: Terry was – and should be – your top priority. Time for you to start acting like it.
“I… okay,” you concede, maintaining eye contact with him as he tries to detect a lie in your sudden acceptance; you both know that your stubbornness could rival his own when you really set your mind to something.
You press on.
“You’re right, Terry. I shouldn’t be involving myself in your personal life; you know more about your issues with Cash than I ever will, and that’s how it should be. I’m sorry for pushing so hard, I just… I just worry about you.”
He seems to be weighing each of your words carefully, his piercing blue eyes still locked with yours, and you do your best not to fidget under his stare. Terry hardly needed to go to the excessive lengths he did with perps to get a confession out of them; he was more than intimidating enough with his gaze alone.
Eventually though, his stony expression breaks, a relieved smile spreading across his face.
“Thank you, Y/N,” he says sincerely, reaching across the table and taking your hand, squeezing it gently as he rubs his thumb across the back of your hand. “I won’t forget this.”
You feel a pleasant warmth in your belly, a smile stealing across your own expression. It feels like a huge weight has been lifted off your shoulders, the gloomy clouds hanging over your relationship evaporating. The moment lasts for a long time, and you’re content to let it, up until you start to yearn for more contact. This happened every so often with Terry – and how could it not? He was your best friend, your protector, the most important person in your life. Not to mention how incredibly attractive he was; there was a reason he was able to land supermodels like Anna Gilmour, after all…
“Enough with the silly drama – let’s get to work!” you say loudly, removing your hand from his grip to clap your hands with mock enthusiasm. Terry surveys you with a curious look for a moment, before nodding his head, giving you his typical dazzling grin that briefly takes your breath away. Unfortunately for you, you were no supermodel, though that was likely in the best interest of both your working relationship and friendship. You know you’d never find another partner like Terry.
“A lot of enthusiasm for the justice system, coming from the little felon herself,” he teases, and you give him a lopsided grin, pleased that he was willing to return to your typical friendly banter.
“That’s me – the worst of the worst!” you announce with mock pride, and he rolls his eyes, getting up from his chair and moving to open the door. “And don’t be ridiculous, Terry, it was never a felony.”
“Well, out with it! What’d you do, L/N?” he asks, and you decide that his own moment of transparency had earned him one of your own. You regale him with a brief summary of your rap sheet as a juvenile – petty theft, mostly, though there was a citation for a particularly brutal brawl you’d gotten into – happy to see him smiling again. Apparently his rigid moral standards held an exception where you were concerned, at least in this instance.
Truth be told, there’s still a part of you that feels that you’re making the wrong decision by abandoning your attempts to get Terry to listen to Cash. But you know that what he needs right now is for his trust in you to be proven valid; you would not betray him like Cash or Frankie had. You would be on his side for this, and hopefully that would be enough for him to come to the right conclusion on his own eventually.
You can’t see any other path to Cash’s - or Terry's - redemption at this point.
Gosh, he's pretty.

Hi!! :D
AB, 🪽, #2
cards I pulled - Wheel of Fortune, Ace of Swords, three of swords
(because I took so so soooo long on these next readings I drew an extra two cards for added clarification! I didn’t forget about you I promise! I hope it’s worth the wait . ݁₊ ⊹ . ݁˖ . ݁ )
According to the cards, you're going through a period of intense change. Recently, you may have had an "aha!" moment (I didn't pull the Magician but that card popped into my head! that energy maybe relevant). Things have been clearer to you lately. You may have been making things clear to others, standing your ground? Even your energy feels very clear I must say.
Overall positivity. However something happened that hurt you, "broke your heart", you could say. A breakthrough/realization. It came at a good time, though? hmmm. You may have known it was coming.
Whatever it was, it "triggered" you recently,or "triggered" a string of (fated) events... a falling out? a tense conversation? you recognized a misalignment with you and someone you cared about? I'm getting some sort of issue with a female/OR feminine presenting person in your life, could be any type of relationship (friend, family, coworker, i'm not rlly getting a lover but that's possible too).
You may have felt a lack of support from them, or a lack in the ability to communicate with them? Insufferable, I'm hearing? The kind of person you could explain 1+2=3 to, and they'd still find a way to debate you on it. Hard to explain yourself to them, frustrating.
You should trust in your emotions. Don't run from them or push them down. Whatever is meant to happen will happen, do not delay the inevitable. Whatever you just thought of as you read this, yes, that. Put yourself first. Karma (eventually) comes for us all, do not let anyone provoke you. Live with no regrets. I'm hearing "on my best behavior" lol. Operate with a clear mind & concise communication.
You'll come out better on the other side. Other things seem to be going well for you, or they will soon. Try not to let this bog you down though I know that's easier said than done. Trust your intuition, take care of yourself, set future you up for success. I can't emphasize that last sentence enough!! && Give yourself permission to grieve the pain associated with this person. It's okay to "mourn" people from a distance when you know the connection has run its course.
Final Messages - Change. All that leaves will be replaced. (something exciting in the Fall/Autumn?) A lesson you won't forget. Doing the right thing. Moving on ✂ Cutting through the bs ✂ "I didn't know then but I'm glad I know now." Goodbyes & the Journeys of life. It'll all work out for the better. Patience & Empathy. Think first, react later. Gemini energy (that magician card!! also emphasis on a conversation with someone in your "inner circle" you had recently? maybe relevant to this reading), Leo energy (p.s. these don't have to be your signs, the season or message of the sign could be relevant) (coinky dink it's leo szn now tho lol, i def feel this is all recent) "feel like a brand new person" tame impala. Done playing games.
Thank you again for your extreme patience ˚ʚ♡ɞ˚ and for allowing me to read for you!
*please keep in mind I am new to tarot so I am far from perfect!
Feedback is always appreciated & encouraged!

for the ask game: headcanons for nico di angelo? (if you haven’t read the books, then ricky bowen 🤠)
Sorry this took me so long... I have indeed read the books, so I'll tackle both! Nico Di Angelo:
Sexuality - Gay
A ship - I actually do like Solangelo a fair bit, they're not my faves per se, but I don't have glaring issues with them (especially compared with say, Caleo).
However for the sake of fun, I also love Jasico (I hope I have that name right). Minor aside that I'm about 90% sure Jason is (he's fine, TBM didn't happen I promise) a closeted gay man based on a number of hints dropped in TBM, plus vibes plus he just screams internalized heteronormativity. So I really wish we could've explored more of Nico and Jason's dynamic. Plus they'd be incredibly adorable about one-upping each other's displays of "touch him and die" imo.
A BROTP - Percico, I totally get why shipping them romantically is a thing, but I also adore the dynamic idea that Nico completely got over Percy and Percy's a little salty about it, plus the level of trust they eventually displayed regardless of the definition of their relationship is very special to me. (End of MoA always gets me right in the feels).
A NOTP - I don't have any specific ones...so I guess I'll just say any ship that tries to get him involved romantically with a woman.
A random headcanon - Though he mostly put Mythomagic behind him, he has since become a massive D&D nerd, with multiple fully fleshed out characters and a couple campaign ideas that he badgers people to play with him. (Also the main cast of HoO playing D&D is a podcast I wish was real, Critical Role style...)
General Opinion - I love Nico, top 3 Percy Jackson Universe characters (I think, I haven't gone through and put together an exact ranking ever since I love almost all of them), not super happy when the writing leans too far into the 'edgy' side of him, but his dry wit is always a pleasure, and he's also capable of backing up the edge with badassery.
His original artwork will always give me nightmares though.
Richard 'Ricky' Bowen:
Sexuality - Bisexual
Gender - Cis Male, though he did experiment with they/them pronouns to see if they felt better to him. They didn't, but he's glad he tried.
A ship - Caswen. Obviously. I think my canon rewrite of half the show serves as adequate explanation of my love for them.
A BROTP - Redky. The friendship/brotherhood between Big Red and Ricky was something I really enjoyed in the first two seasons, it felt quite accurate to my high school experiences and I also find their interactions in fanfiction very endearing. Plus it provides more fuel to my fire that Caswen are NOT brotherly since we have a perfect brotherly relationship for Ricky right there and it looks nothing like his relationship to EJ imo.
Plus I'm still extra irritated that in addition to the rampant biphobia in how Big Red's storyline was handled, they also tried to shove him out of the picture and replace him with Jet in S4, with a scene in E3 especially feeling like the dialogue was written for BR and then they had Jet read it for...no discernable reason.
A NOTP - ...Rina /s.
In all seriousness the only answer I can readily come up with is Rily, because wtf was that subplot even supposed to be, but I struggle to think of NOTPs for Ricky since my brain is mostly Caswen or bust. I thought of the EJ alternatives purely because Tim is so militant about Rina, but I really don't know what Ricky would do outside of preferably Caswen or Tim's beloved 'canon' Rina. And while I do think Rini work better as friends, I also wouldn't call them a NOTP since I feel kind of bad for some Rini shippers (not the creepy ones, the normies for lack of a better term).
Idk, I guess I'll just say Rily and move on.
A random headcanon - Ricky loves the Spice Girls. Where did this HC come from you ask? I have no idea. But I feel like it fits.
The urge to write a mini-fic of Ricky and EJ dancing at their wedding to 'Spice up Your Life' is rising. (Totally not influenced by Doctor Who)
General Opinion - I love Ricky. Not quite as much as Elton, but that's a pretty high bar to clear since Elton rose to my top ten of all time list pretty easily. I have mixed feelings about S3 and S4 Ricky since I felt like they made him overly obsessed with Gina and lost a lot of the charm of his earlier plotlines centering on familial trauma and figuring out his own desires in life, but he's still high ranking for HSMTMTS characters, and I obviously love Caswen to death, so it's hard for me to say I don't also adore Ricky as a special little guy.
That spiraled into a bit of a ramble. Point is that I do really like Ricky, I just wish the writing for him later in the show was less...self-parodic...if that makes any sense.

mommy issues!JK
if his memory serves him right, this is the guy you were with at lotte world. also known as, your new boyfriend and he isn’t impressed. you left him for a guy with a baby face? he knew the man after him would be a huge downgrade but this is pathetic. you’ve no business being with a boy like him but he knows you have a habit for making bad decisions.
you saw you drop off the kid this morning in a questionable outfit he’d never let anyone see you in and he knows around this time you would pick the kid up but to his surprise, you’re nowhere to be found. just your new partner and their friend who also has a kid.
eventually he grows bored of spying on the two since they aren’t talking about anything exclusive pertaining to you except for an argument that your new boyfriend seemingly overreacted to. again, he’s not surprised that you’ve managed to piss your partner off. you did that a lot in the past but all it took was a tight grip on your hair, a hand to your mouth, and you never did it again.
“Hey you!”
dammit, he’s been caught.
quickly, he tries to walk away with hopes that your ‘boyfriend’ will leave him alone but he catches up easily.
“What the fuck man? Why do you keep staring at me huh?”
“sorry. thought you guys were someone i knew. my apologies for staring”
“aish, jungkook! chill out man”
that’s right, your boyfriend’s name is jungkook and the little boy, if he remembers correctly, is seol. this is the family you ran to after abandoning your blood family? he can’t wait to tell your father about your whereabouts and their new replacements.
once eunwoo gets a hold on jungkook, the strange man walks away before getting in his white jaguar and driving off. why would a guy like him be here looking for a friend? he’s at an elementary school for christ sake.
“you were right. they were in an argument earlier today or maybe last night”
“perfect. breaking them up is going to be so easy! i scheduled jungkook in incheon for a whole week which gives us plenty of time to fuck with their relationship”
“this better work, nara”
“trust me, jungkook is going to hate y/n so much that she’ll come running back to you”
“it’s not like she has a choice but whatever. let’s just get this over with”
“aaahhh! i’m so excited! this is going to be so much fun”
~🫧
Of course the man was lying,
but eunwoo caught up to jungkook and stopped him from pressing the issue of course there’s no friend at an elementary school that a grown man like him would be looking for in a place like this
Jungkook is like an erupting volcano today, and everyone seems to be testing his patience around him.
“Look JK. just go home all right don’t think about it much. I mean all couples have arguments and you were right in your place, but you could’ve dealt with it in a better manner….” Eunwoo is trying his best to calm down his very angry friend.
“THAT MAN WAS LYING OBVIOUSLY HE WAS HERE FOR SOMEONE I KNOW!” what is going on? Why can’t he ever have a day of peace?
But he’s determined to find more about this mystery, he obviously seems fishy; the way he was looking at jungkook with a mocking smile, something is very wrong with that dude.
Jungkook reluctantly drives back home, hoping that you will be there by the time he gets there, Seol is quite, Playing with a toy in jungkooks car.
After a while, they’re both back home and thankfully, you open the door.
“Hi yn!!!” Jungkook greets you by pulling you in for a hug, thankfully, you hug him back, and then you greet the little boy. As you tend to Seol, Jungkook drops his body on the couch.
He is not fine right now and maybe he should share the information with you… because he might have an idea about that man already.
Once Seol is eating in the dining room, Jungkook is still sitting on the couch when you sit next to him.
“Yn… yeah I’m OK just a little disturbed…” he looks into your eyes and he feels his heart beating fast, you calm him down so easily.
“did you have fun today with jihyo?” He asks, threading your fingers with his, “I think.. that I might’ve encountered your ex-boyfriend today near seol’s school.”

How to Quit Pornography: A Comprehensive Guide to Personal Growth
“Discover the truth behind the screen. Grab your copy of Porn: Not What You Think now!”
In today’s hyper-connected digital age, pornography has become incredibly accessible, reaching millions of people worldwide. While it may seem harmless at first, prolonged consumption can lead to detrimental effects on mental health, relationships, and overall well-being. For many, the journey to quitting pornography is a transformative step toward reclaiming control and unlocking their full potential.
Why Quit Pornography?
1. Mental Health Impacts Pornography consumption can significantly alter the brain’s chemistry, mimicking the effects of addiction. Dopamine, the brain’s pleasure chemical, is released when viewing explicit content, which leads to desensitization over time. This creates a cycle of dependency and reduces satisfaction from everyday activities. Research links excessive porn use to heightened feelings of anxiety, depression, and loneliness. Additionally, persistent exposure diminishes the brain’s capacity to concentrate, impacting work, studies, and creative pursuits.
2. Relationship Challenges Pornography can distort perceptions of intimacy and body image. It often depicts unrealistic scenarios, leading to dissatisfaction in real-life relationships. Users frequently report reduced emotional and physical connection with their partners. Hidden pornography use can also erode trust, causing feelings of betrayal and damaging relationships.
3. Personal Growth Prolonged pornography use wastes time that could otherwise be spent on personal development or meaningful activities. Furthermore, it can hinder the development of healthy emotional coping mechanisms. Over time, many users experience guilt, shame, or dissatisfaction with themselves, which can affect their self-esteem and overall well-being.
The Benefits of Quitting Pornography
Choosing to quit pornography is about embracing a healthier, more fulfilling life. Many people experience improved mental clarity and increased productivity after quitting. Relationships also improve as trust is rebuilt and intimacy is restored. Overcoming the addiction builds resilience and self-control, and individuals often find that they are better able to regulate their emotions. Without reliance on pornography, people can develop healthier ways to manage stress and emotions.
“Discover the truth behind the screen. Grab your copy of Porn: Not What You Think now!”
How to Quit Pornography
Acknowledge the Problem Recognizing the negative impact that pornography has on your life is the first step toward change. Understanding its consequences allows you to take the necessary steps to address the issue.
Define Your Goals Clarify your reasons for quitting. Whether it’s to improve your mental health, enhance your relationships, or achieve personal milestones, having a clear purpose will help you stay motivated throughout the process.
Identify and Limit Triggers Identify the situations, emotions, or environments that lead you to consume pornography, and create boundaries to avoid these triggers. Consider using tools like content blockers or setting screen-time limits to help reduce your exposure.
Build a Support Network Sharing your decision with trusted friends or family can create a sense of accountability and support. Joining online communities or support groups like NoFap, where others are on similar journeys, can also be valuable.
Replace the Habit Find positive alternatives to fill the void left by pornography. Engaging in activities such as exercise, meditation, reading, or learning a new skill can help redirect your energy and focus toward growth.
Be Patient with Yourself Expect setbacks, but don’t let them define your journey. Recovery is a process, not a destination. Every step forward is progress, and it’s important to be kind to yourself during this process.
Seek Professional Help If you find the addiction overwhelming, don’t hesitate to seek professional support from a therapist or counselor specializing in behavioral addictions. Therapy can provide valuable tools and strategies for overcoming the habit.
Real-Life Transformations
Many individuals who have successfully quit pornography report remarkable improvements in their lives. They experience stronger, more meaningful relationships, enhanced focus and productivity, and a greater sense of inner peace. Living free from guilt and shame enables them to embrace a more authentic and joyful existence.
“Discover the truth behind the screen. Grab your copy of Porn: Not What You Think now!”
Final Thoughts
Quitting pornography is not just about ending a habit; it’s about taking control of your life and pursuing a healthier, more fulfilling future. While the journey may be challenging, the rewards — renewed self-esteem, enriched relationships, and personal growth — are invaluable. Each step you take toward quitting is a step toward freedom. With determination, support, and the right strategies, lasting change is within your reach.

car service near me,
car service near me,
When your car starts showing signs of wear and tear, it’s crucial to find a reliable car service near you to keep your vehicle running smoothly. Whether you need an oil change, brake repair, or major engine diagnostics, a professional auto repair shop can save you time, money, and frustration. In this article, we will guide you on how to find the best car service near you and what to expect during the process.
1. Why Choosing Local Car Service Matters
Opting for a car service near you provides several advantages. Firstly, you save time and effort by avoiding long drives to distant repair shops. Secondly, local shops often have a vested interest in building long-term relationships with customers, which can result in personalized service and better deals. Plus, knowing your neighborhood shop means you’re more likely to get honest feedback and fair pricing.
2. How to Find the Right Car Service Near You
Use Online Search Tools
The easiest way to find car services near you is by using online tools like Google Search, Google Maps, or Yelp. Simply type "car service near me" and you'll get a list of auto repair shops with reviews, ratings, and contact information. Pay attention to customer feedback, especially when it comes to service quality, professionalism, and pricing.
Ask for Recommendations
Another reliable method is asking friends, family, or coworkers for their recommendations. Personal experiences can provide insights into the level of service, price, and trustworthiness of a repair shop.
Check Certifications and Experience
Look for car service providers who are certified by trusted organizations like the National Institute for Automotive Service Excellence (ASE). A certified technician means they have received proper training and have the necessary experience to handle various car repairs.
3. Services You Can Expect at a Car Service Shop
Car service centers typically offer a wide range of services to keep your vehicle in top shape. Some of the most common services include:
Routine Maintenance: This includes oil changes, tire rotations, fluid checks, and air filter replacements.
Brake Services: If you hear unusual noises when braking or if your brakes feel unresponsive, you should get them checked immediately.
Battery Checks and Replacements: A failing battery can leave you stranded, so getting regular checks is essential.
Engine Diagnostics: If your check engine light comes on, a diagnostic test can help pinpoint issues with the engine or exhaust system.
Transmission Repair: Transmission issues can be costly, so early diagnosis can prevent major damage.
Wheel Alignment and Suspension: Poor alignment can lead to uneven tire wear and reduce the vehicle’s overall performance.
4. What to Look for in a Good Car Service Provider
While you can easily find car services near you, not all shops are created equal. Here are a few qualities to look for in a reliable provider:
Transparency and Trustworthiness
A reputable shop will provide you with an upfront estimate of the repair costs and won’t surprise you with hidden fees. Transparent communication and trust are essential for a long-lasting relationship with your mechanic.
Experience and Expertise
The more experienced the technicians, the more likely they are to accurately diagnose and repair issues. Ask about the experience of the team and whether they specialize in your car’s make and model.
Good Reputation
Customer reviews and ratings speak volumes. A car service shop with many positive reviews is likely to offer excellent service. Check online platforms like Google, Facebook, and Yelp for honest customer feedback.
Warranty on Services
Reliable auto repair shops often provide a warranty for their work. This gives you peace of mind knowing that if an issue arises after the repair, you won’t have to pay for the same service again.
5. Tips for Maintaining Your Car Between Services
To ensure your car stays in great condition between services, here are some simple maintenance tips:
Check tire pressure regularly to avoid blowouts and improve fuel efficiency.
Change your oil every 3,000 to 5,000 miles to keep the engine running smoothly.
Inspect brakes for any signs of wear or noise.
Replace air filters to improve engine performance and fuel economy.
Monitor fluid levels (oil, brake fluid, coolant, etc.) to avoid engine damage.
6. Conclusion
Finding a reliable car service near you is crucial for keeping your vehicle running smoothly and avoiding costly repairs down the line. By using online tools, asking for recommendations, and considering key factors such as experience, reputation, and trustworthiness, you can ensure you’re choosing the best shop for your needs. Regular maintenance and timely repairs are essential to extending the lifespan of your vehicle, so make sure to schedule regular checkups with a trusted auto service provider in your area.
For more personalized advice, you can visit your local car service center and ask for an initial consultation or inspection of your vehicle.

How to Overcome Gaming Addiction: Practical Solutions
Gaming addiction can be difficult to overcome, but with the right strategies, it's possible to regain control and start living a healthier, more balanced life. Here are some practical solutions that can help:
1. Set Clear Goals and Limits
One of the first steps in overcoming gaming addiction is setting clear boundaries around gaming time. This means:
Creating a daily or weekly schedule that includes time for other important activities like school, work, physical exercise, and socializing.
Using timers or apps that help track and limit your gaming time.
For instance, setting a 1-hour limit on gaming each day may be a good starting point. Gradually reducing this time as you regain control can also help.
2. Replace Gaming with Positive Activities
It can be hard to break a habit if there isn’t something to replace it with. By engaging in other productive or enjoyable activities, you can redirect your focus away from gaming. Consider the following:
Pick up a new hobby: Try sports, music, painting, or cooking—activities that provide a healthy distraction and stimulate your mind.
Exercise regularly: Physical activity can reduce stress and help combat the physical effects of excessive screen time, like back pain or eye strain.
Socialize offline: Spend more time with family or friends in real life, rather than through virtual worlds. Joining clubs or participating in group activities can build new relationships and lessen the appeal of constant gaming.
3. Practice Mindfulness and Meditation
Gaming often serves as a form of escapism, allowing individuals to avoid real-life problems or stress. Practicing mindfulness and meditation can help you manage stress without relying on gaming. Apps like Headspace or Calm can guide you through relaxation exercises.
Mindfulness teaches you to focus on the present moment and become more aware of your emotions and thoughts, allowing you to control your gaming habits more effectively.
4. Use Gaming Moderation Tools
If you're finding it difficult to self-regulate, there are a variety of tools available that can help you manage your gaming time:
Game-blocking software: Tools like Freedom or StayFocusd can block access to gaming websites or apps during certain hours.
Gaming timers: Apps like Forest or Focus Booster can be used to set strict gaming limits and encourage focus on other tasks.
5. Get Support from Friends and Family
Talking to someone you trust about your gaming habits is one of the most effective ways to tackle addiction. Friends and family can:
Provide emotional support and encouragement when you feel tempted to return to old habits.
Help keep you accountable by checking in with your progress and helping you set achievable goals.
6. Seek Professional Help
In cases where gaming addiction has taken a serious toll on your life, it may be time to seek professional help. A psychologist or counselor with experience in addiction can help you address underlying issues that may be contributing to your gaming habits, such as anxiety, depression, or stress.
Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) is one popular treatment for video game addiction. It helps individuals identify and change harmful thought patterns and behaviors related to their gaming habits.
7. Focus on Real-Life Achievements
Gaming often gives players instant rewards, which can make it difficult to be motivated in real life. By setting and achieving small, measurable goals outside of gaming, you can build confidence and feel more fulfilled. These goals could be:
Improving physical fitness (e.g., running a mile in a set time).
Gaining better grades in school.
Learning a new skill, such as coding or cooking.
Conclusion: Take the First Step Today
Overcoming gaming addiction requires time, patience, and a willingness to change. By recognizing the signs of addiction and taking proactive steps to reduce your gaming time, you can reclaim control of your life and find new ways to enjoy your time. Remember, balance is key.

Finding Clock Repairs Near Me: Your Guide to Quality Service
In today’s fast-paced world, time is of the essence. We rely on clocks not just for timekeeping, but also as beautiful pieces of decor and family heirlooms. Whether it’s a vintage grandfather clock, a stylish wall clock, or a classic mantel clock, keeping these timepieces in working condition is essential. If you’ve ever found yourself searching for “clock repairs near me,” you’re not alone. This blog will help you understand the importance of local clock repair services, common issues they address, and tips for finding the right repair expert.
Why Local Clock Repairs Matter
Searching for clock repairs near you offers several advantages. Firstly, local services are more accessible, allowing you to drop off your clock for repairs without the hassle of shipping or long-distance travel. Secondly, working with a local expert often means you’re supporting small businesses in your community, fostering a sense of connection and trust.
Moreover, local clock repairers understand the specific needs and preferences of their clientele, often providing personalized service that larger, impersonal chains cannot match. When you find a reliable clock repair service nearby, you’re not just getting a repair; you’re establishing a relationship with a craftsman who values your timepiece as much as you do.
Common Clock Issues Requiring Repair
Loss of Accuracy: Over time, clocks may start to lose accuracy, which can be frustrating. Dust buildup, worn-out gears, or a malfunctioning escapement can all contribute to this problem. A professional repair service will thoroughly clean and adjust the clock to restore its precision.
Ticking Noises: If your clock has developed an unusual ticking sound, it may indicate misalignment of gears or insufficient lubrication. Addressing this issue early can prevent more significant damage down the line.
3. Stoppage: A clock that frequently stops can stem from various issues, such as a weak battery in quartz clocks or worn-out parts in mechanical clocks. A clock repair expert can identify the root cause and restore its functionality.
4. Broken Glass or Frame: Accidents happen, and if your clock's glass or frame is damaged, it can affect both its functionality and appearance. Professional repair services can replace broken components while preserving the clock's original charm.
5. Corrosion and Rust: For older clocks, corrosion can be a serious issue. Regular maintenance is crucial, but if your clock has started to rust, professional restoration is often necessary to avoid further deterioration.
How to Find Quality Clock Repairs Near Me
Check Reviews and Ratings: Once you have a list of local repair services, check online reviews and ratings. Websites like Google, Yelp, and Facebook can provide insights into customer experiences, helping you gauge the quality of service.
Ask for Recommendations: Don’t hesitate to ask friends, family, or colleagues if they have recommendations for reliable clock repairers. Personal experiences can be invaluable when choosing the right service.
3. Visit Repair Shops: If possible, visit potential repair shops in person. This allows you to assess their professionalism and see examples of their work. A reputable shop will often have a display of clocks they’ve repaired or restored.
4. Inquire About Specialization: Different clocks may require specific expertise. Make sure to ask if the repair shop specializes in the type of clock you need to be serviced, whether it’s a grandfather clock, a wall clock, or an antique timepiece.

Every fire you walk through is a gateway.
Every pain and challenge you face is a gateway to freedom or entrapment - you decide. FxF exists to teach you how to use the flames of pain for personal gain - how to find freedom by fire.
If we let them, our hard seasons and experiences can brings us greater personal freedom on the other side.
By “hard seasons and experiences,” I mean: trials, tribulations, trauma, challenges, and hardships. This is what we mean by “fire.”
By “personal freedom” I mean freedom from hurts, habits, and hangups.
Hurts, habits, and hangups are what hold you back in life.
Hurts: Painful experiences from the past that still affect you today. These could be things like unhealed wounds from past trauma or other painful experiences like rejection, failure, or loss.
Habits: Behaviors you repeat, often without thinking, that aren't good for you. This might include things like procrastination, negative self-talk, or unhealthy coping mechanisms.
Hangups: Mental or emotional obstacles that prevent you from moving forward. These could be fears, limiting beliefs, or unresolved issues.
Freedom from these means:
You've processed past pain and it no longer controls your actions
You've replaced harmful habits with healthier ones
You've overcome mental barriers that were holding you back
This freedom allows you to respond to life's challenges in a healthier way, make better choices, and live a more fulfilling life.
To put it plainly: You will feel and experience more happiness, joy, success, and peace, and so will the people who interact with and love you.
What Happens If You Don't Work on Your Hurts, Habits, and Hangups
If you choose not to work on freeing yourself from your hurts, habits, and hangups, you might face these consequences:
1. Stuck in the Past: Old hurts keep bothering you. You might find yourself reliving painful memories or getting upset about things that happened long ago.
2. Repeating Mistakes: You keep falling into the same traps or making the same poor choices, even when you don't want to.
3. Relationship Problems: You might push people away or have trouble forming close bonds. Old hurts can make it hard to trust others.
4. Missed Opportunities: Fear or self-doubt might stop you from trying new things or going after what you really want in life.
5. Emotional Rollercoaster: You could find yourself easily upset, angry, or sad, often for reasons that seem small to others.
6. Health Issues: Stress from unresolved issues can lead to physical problems like headaches, stomach troubles, or sleep problems.
7. Addiction Risks: You might turn to unhealthy ways to cope, like using drugs, alcohol, or other addictive behaviors to numb the pain.
8. Work or School Struggles: Concentration might be hard, leading to poor performance at work or in school.
9. Low Self-Esteem: You might not feel good about yourself, which can affect every part of your life.
10. Passing Problems to Others: Your unresolved issues might negatively impact your family, friends, or even your kids.
11. Feeling Stuck: Life might feel like it's not moving forward. You could feel trapped or hopeless about the future.
12. Missing Out on Joy: It can be hard to fully enjoy good moments when you're weighed down by past hurts or bad habits.
Remember, facing these issues isn't always easy, but the alternative – letting them control your life – can be much harder in the long run.
It is the people who have become comfortable hiding their hurts, denying their hurts, and abiding with their hurts that are in the most danger.
Hurt people will hurt other people and keep our world hurting. Healed people can help heal others and the world.
Freedom by Fire exists to help you seek freedom and glean its life-giving benefits.
Freedom by Fire is also a mantra that you can carry with you for the rest of your life - a reminder of the freedom you’ve already won, and a reminder that each new challenge is an opportunity for more.
The backstory:
It all started as a tattoo that founder SBT got spontaneously one day. Her friend wanted to get tattoos together, and though she didn't have anything in mind, she was down. When she got to the tattoo shop, "Freedom by Fire" just came to her.
And you're more than welcome to get it tattoo'ed too. Just make sure to tell everyone what it means, and where you got the idea!
(PS it would look amazing in the our logo font... just saying.)
