Okay but can we talk about how Big Mom is like one of the best portrayals in fiction of the problems with exoticism?

Narratives where one group hates the other for racial, cultural, physical, or other reasons are common, and although they still require nuanced execution to really be meaningful, in essence they're fairly easy to set up. "You're different, so I hate you and want you beneath me."

Exoticism, on the other hand, is something I really don't see dealt with as much. It takes more thought to explore the idea that oppression can be expressed not as outright hatred of certain traits, but through sensationalizing and commodifying them. Thinking a trait is cool or beautiful, but taking away the rights of the person it belongs to.

The way Totto Land is run demonstrates this perfectly. On the surface it's "accepting" of all races, people of all shapes and sizes, but not being directly attacked and discriminated against is held over all of their heads in order to exploit them for continued donations of their literal life force. Acceptance is conditional on their usefulness.

Big Mom also literally collects living creatures in a scrapbook zoo for her own entertainment, and creates beings bound to her will out of inanimate objects. She's enchanted with the idea of Brook as a living skeleton, holding him like a doll and playing with his hair (relevant that it's an afro, imo), only upset at his apparent "death" because she's lost her new favorite toy.

It's shown perhaps even more starkly with all of Big Mom’s children. She births offspring of every race in order to have their powerful traits under her command, and discards the fathers once they've added to the gene pool as she wanted. It's a tool of imperialism to get those people groups under her reign. And as shown with Pudding and Katakuri, she can sometimes personally be disgusted by the physical traits of her mixed children and make them feel the need to hide, only tolerating their appearance in hopes they'll be useful. She can't stand that Pudding looks like a beautiful human girl in every way except for that "gross ugly eye," a necessary evil that is only a positive if it grants her powers. She discriminates against her daughter even while benefiting from her.

It all feels so reminiscent of "oh, I only date Asian women because they're more attractive and have good wife traits," and "you're so pretty, but you'd look better with straight hair," and "white and Filipino couples make the most beautiful babies, that's who I want to marry," and "wow, you're so pale, I could barely guess you were Mexican," and "black people are just naturally better at sports" and "you'd look better with a tan" and "you'd look better if you were lighter" and "black hair is gorgeous but it doesn't look professional" and "I'm dressed up as a Gypsy/Indian/etc." and "I want a curvy girl but actually fat people are gross," and "I'd love to have a gay best friend lol, as long as they don't make it their whole personality," and "autism is your superpower! why do you act so weird though?" and on and on and on.

Big Mom is a fascinating and surprisingly realistic example of obsession with unique traits despite giving no actual respect to the people who have them. Once again, Oda, hats off on shockingly accurate depictions of oppressive systems.

I’ll say it once I’ll say it again this is a reply I’ve given someone on one of MY posts because they say race doesn’t play a part in why some people receive hate. I’d like to say it does.

I think it’s definitely necessary I mean haven’t you noticed the only ones getting hate are white and she’s biracial and everybody defends her. She’s made some pretty racist comments about actual black women saying she’s not black enough to play a role of a black women. Then she’s also made a comment about a black women who was curvy (I don’t maybe plus sized) and she made fun of her saying she doesn’t get men at all because she’s fat. The point I am getting at here is it’s not ok to excuse someone’s disgusting actions because their race or sexuality. I don’t fucking care if you’re white, black, Asian, or Hispanic. You don’t get an excuse for making fun of someone or making cruel remarks and comments. I’m not the only person who thinks this is a problem. I actually know someone who is black and agrees with me a hundred percent that this is why she gets excuses constantly. She’s biracial she’s gay and she’s a woman. Those are three main reasons why she’s getting excuses and all the love and support even though she is not a nice person. There are literally 4 white people all straight (I don’t know if drew is straight or Bi) and they are getting the most hate because of rumors, past mistakes, and for a movie role. Look. I know where this comes from. I too read Izzy as queer. But queer people are perfectly capable of being homophobic towards each other.

Izzy can accept Ed having sex with men who are not him. He's fine with that, and sure, that seems to be proof that He can't be homophobic! at first glance. But, under patriarchy, not liking women sexually is - well, maybe not ideal but under certain circumstances acceptable (after all, under patriarchy, not liking women is perfectly reasonable and encouraged, so it's not a huge leap). But what is not acceptable, what needs to be violently suppressed at all costs, is men being insufficiently masculine.

I don't think modern and classic Eggman were fucking, I know they were lol. Doesn't get more obvious than how Eggman gushes and swoons over himself and calls himself handsome (just listen to his Team Sonic Racing voice clips), always seemed flirty with his classic self in Gens and literally called him "my dear doctor" in the rewrite. He's always been attracted to himself so they would've immediately been into each other the second they met as physically separate beings, there's absolutely no way they haven't fucked

They'd explore each other with a lot of curiosities for how they change over time. Modern would like introducing things he's into but classic hasn't discovered yet so he can have fun sooner in time and they carry out all the selfcest fantasies they always had. I can imagine it not being long until they were intensely making out and fucking, I can imagine a lot of their offscreen time involved them fucking in all the ways they've definitely always dreamed of

But I also like the idea of them getting curious in white space if they somehow haven't fucked already or just also doing so there as well as they're seeking stress relief after the frustration of their defeat and being at a loss on how to escape for a while. Just being all over each other and trying out everything they can imagine when they're lost in time and space and have all the nonexistent time in the void to just explore each other with nothing to interrupt them and they can be as loud and dirty as they want

I personally really dislike Eggman x Ella. Very forced and OOC pair for the X comics and not even canon or accurate to the X show because Ella only feared and hated him and Eggman didn't give a fuck to even acknowledge her beyond when he was directly attacked by her and there was anything but attraction between them

It's uncomfortable for its generic "fat woman x man so obviously they're the only people for each other and would be into each other" vibes. And it always was uncomfortable how the Archie comics in general acted like every character needed to be paired up

It also disregards Eggman's love for himself and his narcissism, he'd never value anyone as highly or higher than himself. He's the only one who has a place as photos on his wall to swoon over, he'd never gush and swoon and hype anyone else up that isn't himself like that

It wouldn't work for game Egg in the slightest and I don't imagine him ever being vastly different in personality to ever work with Classic either because it's never been implied that he wasn't always narcissistic and self loving with no love to give anyone but himself

The closest that can be attributed to his potential type in the actual games (besides non canon spin offs with Bowser) are muscular men with his gay Hot Shelter hall dedicated to statues of them posing suggestively, so like an exact opposite of fat women lol

I don't ship Eggman with women in general because it's not implied he's attracted to them in game canon so you can believe whatever. But this is definitely one of the worst ships involving one for how OOC and forced it is only due to heteronormavity + stereotypes

I don't know about the other non canon adaptions besides X where the planet split into two and Eggman found out the world with all the humans on it was the one he was born on but they never explained how he got there and why he doesn't remember it. However it wasn't actually called Mobius in X

And as for the game canon where all of my personal interest and focus lies, there isn't two worlds and the one world that does exist is Earth that Eggman, Sonic and co and all the humans all live on together so it's a lot simpler and preferable to me than the existence of a whole new planet

I just don't really care for or have anything to say about Nega. He doesn't have anything super interesting going for him as he's just Eggman but different colors and a less interesting motive to me

And I'm not a fan of how people see him as eviller, as if regular Eggman isn't extremely evil himself and ruling the world and making everyone suffer long term under his harsh rule isn't way more evil than just destroying it and that being the end of it

He absolutely has robots he can fuck, this is canon. He created Egg Pawns with a libido that can swoon with love hearts in their eyes and persue in Generations. It was definitely so they'd be attracted to him and all swarm him to love him up and play with him. Cubot is also literally canonically into him so

I like to think he doesn't just have designated robots and machines for fucking, though he definitely would have those too, but also I like to imagine there are some secret slots and attachable parts to most of his models, so he can fuck/be fucked by pretty much all of them

I think if it being another of the reasons he's fine living so far away from living beings and only being around his own creations. He's far from lonely in the bedroom with all the robots and machines he has as well as toys to play with that he could ever need to satisfy his desires

It's honestly shocking to me how many trans women bloggers on here don't understand what a massive red flag hating men is. Like girlie that's the rhetoric TERFs use against us (as in trans women). Why would you repeat it, even if it's not including trans women in it there's still tons of oppressed men who are minorities. There's trans men. Black men. Gay men. Fat men. Physically and mentally disabled men. Neurodivergent men. Genderfluid and multigender people who are men. Butch lesbians who are men. If people include those in "I hate men" then it's really not the progressive take they think it is. If they don't? Congratulations they basically just admitted that they don't see them as "real men" which is a whole other problem. When will people realize that unless they're talking about a literal hate group, saying "I hate all X" will never be a progressive take. You don't hate all men you hate the patriarchy and toxic masculinity. You don't hate all white people you hate white supremacists and people who refuse to unlearn white supremacy. You don't hate all cis people you hate TERFs. I could go on but I don't want to get too far away from the point. Which is, don't be a dick to men. They are not a group that's here to be hated progressively and if that's something that's upsetting to people then there's a lot they have to learn about fighting fascism. There could be a lot more going on in their life than is obvious from a passing glance and I'm so tired of the leftism immediately leaving people's body when it comes to trans men specifically. It's something that will always make me feel extremely unsafe as a genderfluid person.

ive wanted to make a post about the ostracization of women within womens spaces of those who dont fit that bill for a long time. women of color, fat women, trans women, butch women, any woman who doesnt align well enough with that white, middle class archetype that we are told is the norm.

there is no "solidarity among women" for us. i was never treated like a girl. most who dont fit the aforementioned bill ever are. "womanhood" as they describe it is a costume and a privilege only those with certain attributes ever get to wear. its not real.

the closest you can come to defining what its like to be "a girl" is to talk about the oppression we face under cishet men who, by default, stand at the top of our society. which everyone who isnt one faces. including trans women, trans men, dykes, fags, you name it. you dont fit into that "ruling class" and youre one of us.

i have more in common with trans women than i could ever have with the type of woman who thinks of girlhood as dainty, delicate, and protected. i have more in common with gay men, trans men, and lesbians than women who believe that "divine feminine" is a thing.

so when t3rfs try to tell me i should be on their side because im "one of them" all i want to say is... am i? have you finally granted me that privilege now that you need my help to bludgeon a vulnerable sect of people back into their place? how sweet. how thoughtful of you. no thanks
