Can you analyze Kai’s free time events and maybe his character traits a bit? I feel like a lot of people gloss over the fact that he has a high emotional intelligence and write him off as ‘stupid’ just because he isn’t like Damon or Eva., which feels super wrong. Also, he is honestly really good at keeping himself safe, opting to stay in places where others probably wouldn’t attack him and staying with people who he knows wouldn’t kill him (it’d be too obvious for Damon to kill him since people know they’re roommates.) I honestly can’t find much Kai analysis outside of him being Damon’s support, and while I love that theory, it’s a shame there isn’t more Kai-centric things.
Hi Anon! This is such a funny ask to me, I love that I'm getting sent on Kai's scent like an attack dog now. I absolutely am planning on digging further into Kai's character (and every else's for that matter), but the issue is always finding the time. Still, I thought I'd take a minute to address some of your other statements.
Kai IS very good at keeping himself safe! Despite consistently whining, crying, and pouting, he somehow hasn't isolated himself from the group. The first time he engages with Damon, an outcast, is when he's forced to via the roommate arrangement. Even then he's begging the others not to leave him with Damon, and let's not forget they use Kai's room at Kai's insistence so he will "feel more in control". Damon rationalizes it by thinking Kai would still follow him if he left for his own room because of how sad Kai looks, but frankly it is impressive that Kai got everything he wanted out of the less-than-ideal situation. It's only after this that Kai starts endearing himself to Damon along with the group. It seems Kai is strategic in who he befriends.
Something interesting about Project: Eden's Garden is that the prologue acted to showcase who the "smartest" people were by the most classic definition of smart. Wolfgang, who took charge of the group and was outspoken about solving the trial case, and went to law school. He was also our first proper murder victim, along the murderer Eva, the ultimate mathlete, another classical example of intelligence. That being said, it shows that book smarts is not enough to succeed in the games. There is a need for emotional intelligence as well (the reason Wolfgang went into the basement, Eva's exact undoing in her trial, and the emphasis on logos).
Now that this is established, I think there's going to be an emphasis switch to pathos, or focusing on more emotionally intelligent characters, because there are SEVERAL who are smart enough to have kept their own intelligence under wraps, such as Mark or Wenona. Kai, while perhaps not the most intelligent of the group, I think falls into this category by some extent since he does participate during trials (and I don't remember him crying during the second trial but I'd have to check) and he is good at spotting details, but not solving them.
Kai is the one who questions the easy access to opioids even if its because he worries "someone will want to get high" rather than drugging someone, like what happened with Wolfgang. He also shares his blackmail immediately with Damon, and shares they both received blackmail with the group. Also, he's one of the few characters Ingrid approves of to join laundry duty, being called "clean-looking" and knowing how to use the machines.
I think Kai is a lot more capable than people give him credit for! I don't believe he's a secret genius or some master manipulator, but none of the characters are, and I do think his ability to read data and patterns, and how he managed to get along with both Damon and the group is definitely worth noting!

I'm I crazy for thinking some of kai's tears are performative and not real
like maybe some of them are but whenever I see people talking about them people always treat them like their all real
I thinks its because of how quickly they start and leave?, because like in his free time events when he was looking for his ring he seemed upset and did, the tear thing, but even after getting it back it wasn't like day and night and he was back to normal he was still a little bit sad afterwards, while other times he switch's between sad and normal really quickly
also if anyone in the cast would be able to fake tears it would be kai right?, I'm genuinely curious you don't have to agree with me I'm just curious on your thoughts on it
Anon you are NOT crazy. Thanks for the ask because now I get to talk about it. Take my hand as I walk you through a short essay as to why Kai is, as the kids say, “totally sus”.
Kai’s backstory in my opinion is one of the most underrated, which is surprising given how popular he is in the community. Kai’s backstory establishes, first and foremost, that Kai is smart. Not only that, but he’s people smart. Kai’s FTEs highlight his ability to convince people to sway certain directions and buy what he wants them to buy. It’s not that Kai boosts trends, he creates them from scratch by knowing exactly what people want and when. It’s a feat so unbelievable that even Damon (who’s convinced he’s better than everyone else) recognizes it’s an incredible achievement. He sees what people want and gives it to them, so who’s to say he doesn’t take advantage of this with some fake tears? Kai is an influencer. His job is to perform.
Kai is also recognized fairly quickly as the Ultimate Influencer and the reputation that comes with it. Damon is an outlier in not knowing who Kai is- this could be part of why Kai warms to Damon overtime. He needs to learn to read him and create an impression that will stick best with Damon.
I adore this game because absolutely no character should be considered non-suspicious, especially not Kai. It would be great if Kai was just a chill guy but unfortunately it’s never that easy haha or we wouldn’t be in this situation.

we should probably talk about damon asking diana if she has a death wish and diana not immediately saying no in her free time events instead hesitating
Oh absolutely we should. Thanks for the ask Anon, I hope you’re ready for this mini essay. It’s important to note this accusation is also paired with Damon asking Diana “why she’s so obsessed with seeing good in people”, so it’s a bit difficult to tell which bit Diana is struggling to answer.
However, taking the “Death Wish” comment is especially interesting considering Diana’s actions at the end of Chpt 1 when she says she’ll “fulfill the life Wolfgang wasn’t able to live”, expressing a desire to “live for him”. However, Diana explains in her speech she will be “following in Wolfgang’s footsteps to continue what he couldn’t accomplish”. Diana is under the impression that most characters are: that Wolfgang was trying to protect everyone when in reality, Wolfgang dying in the boiler room was because of his selfishness trying to hide his blackmail. However, to Diana it was selflessness in protecting everyone from a potential threat, dying so others could live. Her vow is not a vow to live in Wolfgang’s name, but rather a vow to become someone willing to die for everyone else.
Further, Diana’s FTEs fascinate me. Her first FTE with Damon is centred around her trying to find the best way to read and compliment him in a way catered to his character. Diana compares Damon to a struggling but wise scholar and when Damon asks if that makes Diana one of his followers, Diana asks “do you want me to be?”- there’s a reason Diana’s motif is the chameleon. She spins the conversation away from herself at every turn to better suit the conversation partner. Diana doesn’t talk about herself if she can help it, and when it is centred on her she doesn’t know what to talk about, and even says she feels uncomfortable. This may have something to do with her past working for celebrities as the Ultimate Cosmologist. What is Diana’s personality if it’s not baseless optimism catered to support and uplift everyone around her? Do we know? Does she know?
Whether this is born out of foul intent yet remains to be seen. Personally, I hope the game has Diana be a genuinely good person with low-esteem from her work as a cosmologist rather than if Diana was secretly a bad person, as I think it ties into the overall theme of Ultimates having horrible consequences on a person’s life. Diana is one of my favourite characters so I’m excited to see where the game goes next.

what do you think about kai and cassidy’s dynamic as public figures on the internet? I think it’s really interesting how we see like. Kai is just a normal guy off the internet, he can’t be his influencer self all the time, but cassidy is always her streamer self, which makes sense given the different platforms they use but I think it’s possibly an interesting dynamic that could be interesting just considering their similarities and differences…
(can you tell I like cassidy and kai. lmao)
Hello! The Kai and Cassidy parallels are actually very interesting, so thanks for the ask! I got really into this one so strap in, this one is for you Kai and Cassidy fans.
The most critical difference is that Cassidy chose to become the Ultimate Pro-Gamer but Kai didn’t choose to become the Ultimate Influencer. Cassidy was able to build her platform as herself, but Kai built his completely anonymous. Kai never meant to ‘claim the fame’ so to speak, as he fully intended to keep the account anonymous and restricted to work- because his online fame was for work. Online fame meant work success, not personal success. Kai just needed money, his online fame was not born of a desire or passion for it. His fame is based purely around superficial, predictable and (most importantly) popular trends he was able to capitalize on. Cassidy, meanwhile, would choose when she streamed and what while being herself. It was a personal success and as money raked in, an unintentional work success. Fans who joined ‘Cassidy’s Comrades’ joined because they liked Cassidy, or enjoyed the gimmick she had invented herself. Cassidy has the creative and financial freedom to do as she pleases, unlike Kai.
And Cassidy’s content is also well received! She has millions upon millions of fans. They’re attracted to her passion for pro-gaming and streaming. Generally speaking, Cassidy has a good fanbase. However, Kai doesn’t. He has more haters than fans despite being the Ultimate Influencer, and those who are his fans are described as obsessive and defensive. Damon, in an FTE, says that Kai relies on them but they don’t rely on Kai- and that’s because Kai isn’t himself with his fans, but an empty vessel for social media trends. Cassidy knows she earned her Ultimate Streamer title, and is comfortable doing as she pleases with it. She knows she’s incredibly influential (as seen by her saying she consistently donates money), and I don’t doubt her influence in the gaming world either. Kai, though, doesn’t think he’s earned his Ultimate Influencer title, so he’s constantly trying to prove it to the world, his fans, and himself. He doesn’t see that he’s already earned his Ultimate title despite it taking an incredibly smart person to predict and even shift social trends.
Despite these differences in self-worth, types of fame, and how each character is perceived by the world, it’s also interesting that both dislike their Ultimates. Cassidy complains that many fans are constantly asking her to return to old content, but since Cassidy is a ‘genuine’ online personality, she can’t. She’s grown and isn’t that person anymore, or genuinely has no interest, meaning her audience is losing interest in her or perceiving her as boring. For someone like Cassidy, that’s disaster. Additionally, Cassidy says many people in the gaming community treat her like she’s above them, which she greatly dislikes. Cassidy is both too perfect and not enough. When Kai became the Ultimate Influencer, a scandal erupted immediately that got him sent a huge amount of online hate. However, it also got him a ton of online love that many deem worshippers. Again, Kai is both too perfect and not enough.
Both Cassidy and Kai also feel they are unable to make friends. Cassidy is unable to truly connect with anyone in the gaming space, as nobody sees her as an equal, or is using her for her Ultimate. She can ‘settle’ for a group, but not make real friends. Kai’s only friends are his fans. The scandal that started his Ultimate career ruined all his previous friendships, causing him to rely entirely on his fans for connection. His fans do not know Kai, they only know the Ultimate Influencer.
TLDR: The critical difference is their ‘choice’ in pursuing online fame. Both are very influential, but Cassidy succeeds as an online persona because she is genuine, unlike Kai. Kai’s insecurities prevent him from truly succeeding as an Ultimate (especially Influencer). Still, neither can make real friends due to their online success- there is no winning either as a beloved or despised public figure.

did you name yourself “evesedenramblings” on purpose because of the ram statue pfp (i think that’s a ram)
HA, I very much wish I was that clever. Yes, it is a ram (it’s the ram statue of Tozu from the beginning of Project: Eden’s Garden!) but no unfortunately it was not intentional. However, since I think that’s very funny, it is now intentional and I was actually this funny all along. Thanks for the ask (and it made me laugh too)!!

Man do you guys ever think about how Damon’s animal motif is a snake, and how snakes will latch onto their own tails and cannibalize themselves? They’ll be responsible for their own deaths. This is usually observed to happen when a snake is kept in captivity, and it is credited to happen due to stress and/or confusion. These conditions cause the snake to believe it is attacking prey or other snakes rather than itself. The snake doesn’t realize it’s only attacking themselves until it’s too late.
Do you also think about how Damon has an inherently trusting nature he doesn’t realize he has? Damon believes himself to be independent and a critical thinker, which makes him think he’s better than to trust the other students, but he also latched onto Eva immediately after meeting her without realizing it. He thrived when having that attachment to Eva but it was the wrong attachment to make, and it’s one he didn’t even realize he made.
TLDR: Damon’s experience in the death game may be shaped and ruined by his own hands while believing he’s doing the right thing.
