TBB S3:11 Thoughts
MAJOR SPOILERS
POOKIES????
Below cut ->
POOKIES NO
Anyone else feel our LACK OF PLOT AMOUR?
Geez i miss TCW when we KNEW those bitches wouldn't die.
By character:
Omega: Baby I'm so proud of you. She hung out with her girlies, and dealt with her greif? A win all around. "And it's my choice." Hell yeah girl! Work that agency! Also pookie took an ethics course and said "yeah attacking this whole town for lil ol me? Not happening.
Crosshair: WHY DID YOU LET HER GO? Your little quips can't save her. And then as a cherry on top you hit EVERY SHOT EXECPT THE ONE THAT COUNTS. Rip Crosshair, can't wait to watch your brothers kill you.
Hunter: We get it you're Rambo. (But honostly he never disappoints in an action scene, keep doing you Hunter) Also, congrats to all the Hunter girlies for wet hair hunter™.
Wrecker: Hun you got me so nervous. My life flashed before my eyes. I will always be a Wrecker Girlie and Omega defender. (im working overtime). But the lack of plot amour he has is insane. And his blowing up WITH THEIR HOME? Look Wrecker has always been a 'home' for the batch. And in that moment they *almost* lost everything they could rely on. I was holding my breath. Gave me flashbacks to to Dormé and Padme in AOTC.
Additional: Loving all of our characters coming back. (Phee ecspecially) Also Matt Lanter did some additional voices (have i just missed that he's still active in SWs besides Ani?) Those little white boy clones are back, they still shock me. And Omega's mugshot was a jumpscare.
Ok that's all. A lot of an episode.
Long live Batcher

Actually, you know what, I've got something else to add to OP's meta other than my tags (which I'm throwing on here for posterity):
#the attachment luke gives in to is his fear for leia #which vader preys upon to provoke him to violence #(& it blew up in vader's mask because it worked TOO well) #the relationship that luke ultimately embraced that saved both his own soul & his father's was that of unconditional love #through that love he gave his father the choice to reclaim his own autonomy #& likewise accepted that he had to let him go at the end
there IS a thin line between "attachment" and "unconditional love" and it's expressed here in these two images:
Tumblr media Tumblr media
In AOTC Padmé asks Anakin, "Are you allowed to love? I thought that was forbidden for a Jedi." And Anakin replies, "Attachment is forbidden. Possession is forbidden. Compassion, which I would define as unconditional love, is central to a Jedi's life. So you might say that we are encouraged to love."
The distinction here is that on the surface what Anakin is saying is 100% correct, but internally he's using this as justification for his personal obsession with Padmé. (Really, he's using it as the second dweebiest pick up line ever, only topped by the sand diatribe.) He's excusing himself while trying to have his cake and eat it too. He knows what the sacrificial Jedi lifestyle requires but doesn't want to give that up while retaining an attachment to Padmé. He may have a sympathetic backstory for why he does this, but it doesn't make it any less of a problem.
Then life comes full circle and Anakin's son is the one who embodies the very words he spoke over two decades earlier. Awakened from his haze of fury by the Emperor's goading, Luke chooses empathy and compassion over hatred when he refuses to kill his father and eloquently tells the Emperor to fuck off. When he lies dying under a barrage of Force lightning, Luke exercises his faith in his father's conscience by crying out to him, "Father, please! Help me!" He trusts that there's still something left inside of that man standing by to recognize that his child is in mortal danger and he should do the right thing - and Anakin finally does. Anakin is finally moved to choose one last selfless act.
Luke does make a herculean effort to try to physically save his father as well as spiritually, and it grieves him to the last moment that Anakin has to die, but hearing those parting words from his father - "You already have, Luke. You were right. You were right about me." - gives him the reassurance that letting Anakin go on his own terms is also the right thing to do. What matters most is that the goal he set out to do was achieved: he brought his father back from the darkness. He freed him from the prison of his own crimes and the abuser who helped lock him in there. So yes, OP, Luke IS The Jedi™ for having lived up to the standards his father once only paid lip service to and only grasped at the very end of his life. Compassion is indeed central to a Jedi's life, and the proper execution of it is exemplified by Luke's actions and victory in ROTJ.
"Luke Skywalker isn’t like the old Jedi. He saves Vader with his attachments!”
Wrong!
Luke Skywalker, at the end of Return of the Jedi, after his confrontation with the Emperor drags Darth Vader through the destructing Death Star. He’s desperate, knuckles white under the heavy weight of his father’s body, a little boy dragging his dad to safety. He sets Vader down for a moment, to catch his breath or maybe to get a better grip. He goes to grab Vader again, but Vader, uncomfortable and in pain, asks Luke to take off the mask. He wants to see Luke through his eyes instead of the eyes Palpatine built for him. Luke refuses, says that removing the mask is a sure way for Vader to die. Luke doesn’t want Vader dead, he wants Vader alive. Not to hold him accountable for his many evil acts, but for the same reason why Luke Skywalker can’t kill Darth Vader; Vader is his father and Luke loves him.
And yet, after a moment, Luke removes Vader’s mask. He doesn’t want to, he hesitates, but he removes the mask with enough slowness to allow Vader to take it back. In that moment, Luke sets aside his desire for Vader in his life, sets aside his desire to see him live, and sets aside his entire mission, the reason he was even on the Death Star in the place. In his compassion for his father, Luke stays with Vader until he dies. It is this moment where we see him be the best damn Jedi he can be. I’d even argue that this moment is the greatest example of non-attached love we see. Because Luke lets Vader go! He lets his father die, and in some ways, by removing the mask, he too kills Vader, he stays with him until his last moment, gives him the kindness of granting his last wish and finally chooses Vader.
And Luke doesn’t have to do this. If Luke Skywalker’s love for his father was an attachment, he would ignore Vader and continue dragging him to the escape pod, put his desire for a father as his central focus and ignore Vader’s wants and discomfort. Maybe he would even save him. But he doesn’t. Instead, he watches as Vader dies.
He builds a Jedi burial for his father and watches it burn the remnants of Vader and Anakin Skywalker away. He mourns Vader, he mourns what they could’ve had as father and son, considers what ifs and maybe-if-I-did-this. Vader/ Anakin is released from his mortal body, from his ‘crude matter’ and Luke lets him go. He says one final goodbye to Anakin. Then, he joins Leia, Han, Chewie, Lando, and the rest of the Rebels and celebrates their victory. He lives in the present and celebrates what he has instead of what he lost.
Luke Skywalker is THE Jedi. Everything about Luke Skywalker serves as the foundational cornerstone of the Jedi, everything about the Jedi as a culture and philosophy is reflected in his character. Luke’s desire for the New Jedi Order isn’t to throw away the values of the old Order, but to vitalise them, breathe life back into dying lungs, and rebuild a path that people set out on their way to destroy. (Yes, his Order is different from the Old, but that’s because it has to be. He doesn’t have the resources or the safety of the Old Order.) The philosophies of the Jedi are difficult and they aren’t for everyone, and like the perfect Jedi that Luke is, he struggles and stumbles and sometimes he even rejects it. But, no matter how far he falls, it is a way of life he chooses again and again and again. It is a way of life that welcomes him back each time

“Hello,” I stated with uncertainty as I slide back over to Tumblr waving nervously and ready to bolt at the first sign of an angry mob fully prepared to skin me alive for my lack of presence.
“It’s been awhile, huh everyone? Y-yeah, my bad.”
So updates cause I can’t remember if I’ve explained everything so we’re just gonna start at the beginning, more or less. First thing’s first - my attention has been on discord. Easier to access from my phone, I’m too easily distracted with things that I see first.
Then there’s the more important things. As some of you know I was finally able to move out of my abusive mother’s house back in May and things were going well. And then you know, roommate problems started happening. Still better than living with my mom. We’re not gonna go into all that but there’s was a lot of stress involved, drama, etc. Long story short I have an apartment, I’m dealing with a roommate who doesn’t see the issue with not washing the dishes leaving me to do 80% of the housework while he plays League of Legends, I have a car now, insurance, title, etc etc. And my anxiety hasn’t settled down completely and it’s still fluctuating.
I’m planning to make my way back here. I’m also in the process of trying to remember my password for @cosmictransit because I haven’t forgotten I owe there (I’ve disappeared from Tumblr completely pretty much) I just haven’t been able to log in. xD
But yeah, I’m hoping to send out at least one reply from here today, so we’ll see what happens! I’M SO SORRY. ♥♥♥

once again stating my opinion that the reason why dude bro™ star wars fans have such an issue with Temuera's performance of Boba is that in their minds, they're boba fett. Since during his introduction he was an absolute blank slate (and note how they threw fits over young boba in aotc and tcw) he was there to project their action hero fantasies on. and now that he's being portrayed with nuance and subtlety, and not raining space bullets down on anyone who breathes in direction while also having a bunch of bond girls hanging around him, he's "lame". idk. watching other guys egos crumble at bobas interactions with the tuskens is fascinating.

I AM PLAYING CATCH UP ON ALL THE DRAWING THINGS THAT I HAVE MISSED. IT WOULD BE ABSOLUTELY REMISS OF ME IF I DIDN’T ADD MY CONTRIBUTION CONSIDERING THAT I WRITE STANLEY, AND HAVE BEEN FOR LIKE, FIVE YEARS OVER VARIOUS SITES. I had to add my college boi to the @jackyjackdraws drawpile. ♥ This particularly headcanon has taken control of my life now that I actually have a chance to write it out with other people.
Tumblr media
Hey guys, a huge thanks for the 900 followers
We are getting closer to the 1k boyos! I'm so excited
To celebrate, I am hosting a Stanley Pines drawpile, very similar to the one Eregyrn did
The rules are simple:
-Draw your version of the Stan while adding mine in the picture, doesn't matter if you think you can't draw, just go for it! You won't be judged in any way
-Reblog the post with your Stan added
-Send me via DM your transparent Png of your version of Stan, so that I can make one definitive drawpile of all the Stans in the end (must be 300 dpi minimum)
-Every version of Stan is accepted! AUs, Hc, you name it! If it is Stan, then it's 100% allowed
-Feel free to post your version of Stan after you do all these steps! And make sure to tag "Stan Pines Drawpile"
And that pretty much covers it, I'm looking forward to see what you guys will bring to the table =)

in aotc when Anakin and Padme are talking about Government™ and Ideology™ and he says someone should make the politicians agree and she’s like “who, you?” and he’s like of course not me like it’s the most ridiculous thing he’s ever heard and i’m like
also not over that
esp bc- he offers an Empire to Padme and then to Luke

crimes committed by the ESB:FACPOV obi-wan story
catholic guilt (tm)
racism
fundamental misunderstanding of the jedi path
fundamenal misunderstanding of attachment
calling anakin 'dumb'
calling luke 'dumb'
racism 2
blaming the council for anakin's fall
assertion that anakin never asked for special treatment
assertion that the council should’ve treated anakin differently
assertion that the council treated anakin differently (but in the bad way)
jedi order is a cult
qui gon as the One True Jedi
obi wan wants to be ‘the Good Jedi’ (complete with that capitalization) (and the implication that he failed)
being written by a transphobe
jedi traditions bad
jedi order is repressive
jedi order bans alcohol and sex apparently even though obi-wan goes straight for the bar in aotc and lucas explicitly said they were not celibate
obi-wan feels ashamed for thinking about holding siri’s hand, never mind the number of times he’s held satine’s hand or more
yoda as the Worst Jedi / cult leader
anakin as the only reason the empire happened when palpatine is right there
everything would be ~ all better! ~ if anakin and padmé had switched roles
the jedi weren’t genocided, they ‘died out’
obi-wan is the one who thinks all of this
and many more!

I know this is a serious scene and all, but my favorite thing about this? Is that Mace and Obi-Wan look about two minutes away from saying “kriff it” and just sitting on the floor with their back against the cushions.
Decorum? In their Jedi Temple?

This scene was designed to show the concern they were having over the Chancellor’s grab for power, and that there was a lot more intrigue going on with the Council over what was going on in the Senate. – George Lucas

Gonna close out of the twelve threads that have been sitting here for about a year old. No idea where my writing partners have gone, but if you guys come back and wanna write we can continue or we can start something new. (I’m probably going to push for something new, lmao.) With that being said be looking out for a starter call at some point in the new future. Going to continue my revamping (If you know, you know), and then I’m going to ask the people who I owe if they’re even still interested in writing with me. I’ve been through a lot and have been on Discord and doing a bit of gaming mostly. I quit one of my jobs (I had three which is a very long story, but I finally got rid of the one that caused the most stress) on top of finally dropping another stressful person in my life. So I’m feeling a lot better, but I’m trying to...synchronize isn’t the right word, but it’s close. I’m trying to get back into things and tumblr is one of them.
With that said I did have to delete my multimuse account once I finally got back into it, but Stanley is of course here to stay and I did pull at least one character from my multi-account here. I don’t think I’ll do much with him. Honestly it was such a spur of the moment things. Then I need to get back into drawing. I haven’t drawn much recently, and I have so many ideas that i need to jot down. I’m going through a reboot. That’s what it is.  Anyway, that’s all for this update. Sorry I keep randomly disappearing. Hopefully I won’t keep disappearing, but for those of you who’ve read my rules you were already prepared for my vanishing act, and I appreciate you being so patient and understanding.

“BECAUSE IN THE END, THE CLONE WARS TO ME, IS ABOUT AHSOKA AND REX” - DAVE FILONI
And that right there is the problem for me. The central focus of The Clone Wars should’ve been Anakin’s transition from his AOTC self to his ROTS self and the developing friendship between him and Obi-Wan, not the Clones (who were established to be little more than subservient drones in the PT) or Snips & Skyguy™.

wait so its canon that anakin had a padawan himself? did he become a master? i havent watched the clone wars but im wondering how this fits in
yes! ahsoka tano is his padawan in tcw but bc of various circumstances she didn’t complete her training (i don’t want to spoil you too much just in case you are planning on watching tcw lmao) but it was really the council’s fault and not anakin’s that he didn’t get to finish her training so that makes them refusing to make him a master in ROTS an extra slap in the face (oh so yeah anakin is ahsoka’s master but not an actual Jedi Master™ like how in AOTC obi wan is anakin’s master but he’s still just a jedi knight)

one of the best things about tcw is its self-contained arcs, you can pretty much jump around and watch whatever you want and itd still make at least 95% sense. but since im bored and dont wanna do hw (and am trying to prod @jaegrdrifts deeper into the sarlacc pit) i thought id make a list of my fav/most important episodes
tcw in its entirety is 6 seasons, total of 121 episodes, bout 20 min each: bout 40 hours total
the following list of 70 episodes typically fall under one or more of these categories:
important to the storyline/character development
obligatory ‘anakins slowly sliding into the dark side’ episodes
anakin and obi wan (and ahsoka) snarking at each other this is every episode actually who am i kidding
i just like it
this is really just me scrolling through the tcw episodes wikipedia page at midnight writing down the ones i remember were good/important so apologies i mightve forgotten some
this will be long probably im sticking it under the cut
The Movie
uhhhhh you could watch the movie i guess??? you dont really have to, i didnt. its nice it introduces you to a lot of characters really fast (jabba asajj the clones AHSOKA) and like once or twice maybe they reference things that happen here later but its not necessary
Season 1
Episode 5: “Rookies” -- first glimpse at rex & cody!
th emost hilarious arc youre ever gonna watch
Episode 11: “Dooku Captured”
Episode 12: “The Gungan General”
you gotta, you gotta meet hondo. he will grow on you. like a fungus. also anakin and obi wan snarking at dooku who is for once taking obi wans place of being completely Done (TM)
Episode 15: “Trespass” -- this episode introduces you to riyo chuchi who i know is a fan favorite for some but if you dont care about her (why would you not care about her) you dont hafta watch this
Blue Shadow Virus Arc
Episode 17: “Blue Shadow Virus”
Episode 18: “Mystery of a Thousand Moons”
the source of this great photoset
Ryloth Arc
Episode 19: “Storm Over Ryloth”
Episode 20: “Innocents of Ryloth”
Episode 21: “Liberty on Ryloth”
good background info if you wanna watch star wars rebels later, also this arc is referenced in one of the later episodes. also you get to meet waxer boil and numa
Season 2
Episode 5: “Landing at Point Rain” -- GOD THIS EPISODE l e t  m e  t e l l  y o u
actually no you just gotta watch it. this is the second(?) battle of geonosis (remember the first one is during aotc and like 200 jedi died). its actually part of an arc that extends to episode 8 which are fun but not necessary
the return of obi wans girlfriend
Episode 12: “The Mandalore Plot”
Episode 13: “Voyage of Temptation”
Episode 14: “Duchess of Mandalore”
this is important. satine is a major character the series. also for someone who has a real secret wife anakin sure does love teasing obi wan over his ‘secret girlfriend’
Episode 16: “Cat and Mouse” -- can you believe this happens onscreen? also like. look at them
Episode 17: “Bounty Hunters” -- hondo returns
Zillo Beast Arc
Episode 18: “The Zillo Beast”
Episode 19: “The Zillo Beast Strikes Back”
can you believe senator palpatine may the Force bless his soul was eaten by a giant alien monster? yeah i wish. unfortunately this arc has no impact of any sort on the storyline but its always nice watch our most favorite sith lord darth sidious narrowly avoid being eaten
Boba Arc
Episode 20: “Death Trap”
Episode 21: “R2 Come Home”
Episode 22: “Lethal Trackdown”
@ everyone who wants a boba movie: you already have one. its called tcw
Season 3
Clones!
Episode 1: “Clone Cadets”
Episode 2: “ARC Troopers”
clones.
Episode 3: “Supply Lines” -- i just have a soft spot for ima-gun di and captain keeli okay. also this is a continuation of the ryloth arc
Episode 9: “Hunt for Ziro” -- quinobi is the only ship i really ship. this is actually a S01E22 “Hostage Crisis” and S02E08 “Evil Plans”
the rise of Savage
Episode 12: “Nightsisters”
Episode 13: “Monster”
Episode 14: “Witches of the Mist”
ventress has one of my favorite character arcs through the whole series. also Savage will be important later
Mortis Arc
Episode 15: “Overlords”
Episode 16: “Altar of Mortis”
Episode 17: “Ghosts of Mortis”
we dont really get to see Anakin “Chosen One” Skywalker and all that really means a lot but we do here. this is one of the arcs where i especially wish they went more into the aftereffects butttt-- they cant
Citadel Arc
Episode 18: “The Citadel”
Episode 19: “Counter Attack”
Episode 20: “Citadel Rescue”
Tarkins already a slimy person whos surprised. also what happens to one of the characters here is referenced later
Season 4
Umbara Arc
Episode 7: “Darkness on Umbara”
Episode 8: “The General”
Episode 9: “Plan of Dissent”
Episode 10: “Carnage of Krell”
this arc. t h i s  a r c. this and the next few arcs deal with pretty heavy stuff fair warning
Zygerria Arc
Episode 11: “Kidnapped”
Episode 12: “Slaves of the Republic”
Episode 13: “Escape from Kadavo”
i wish. star wars would ADDRESS SLAVERY as an issue. you got entire armies of effective slaves you have SO MUCH POTENTIAL. heres a little bit of ‘anakin lets his temper get the better of him’
Deception Arc
Episode 15: “Deception”
Episode 16: “Friends and Enemies”
Episode 17: “The Box”
Episode 18: “Crisis on Naboo”
heres more of ‘anakin lets his temper get the better of him.’ so does obi wan a little bit tbh can you believe he stabs a fishman with a fork and threatens to eat him
Ventress Arc
Episode 19: “Massacre”
Episode 20: “Bounty”
shes just trying her best to find her place in this messy world
the Return of Maul
Episode 21: “Brothers”
Episode 22: “Revenge”
LOOK WHOS BACK
Season 5
Episode 1: “Revival” -- ft. our favorite zabrak brothers and one of my favorite lightsaber duels
the origin of Saw Gerrera
Episode 2: “A War on Two Fronts”
Episode 3: “Front Runners”
Episode 4: “The Soft War”
Episode 5: “Tipping Points”
since saw showed up in rogue one
Younglings
Episode 6: “The Gathering”
Episode 7: “A Test of Strength”
Episode 8: “Bound for Rescue”
Episode 9: “A Necessary Bond”
not a necessary watch but the younglings are cute, you get to learn a little more about where lightsabers come from, and hondo puts in an appearance
Episode 12: “Missing in Action” -- part of an arc from S05E10 - S05E13 but honestly its not my favorite arc. but you get to meet someone special in this episode and set some context for a character in sw:r
Lawless Arc
Episode 14: “Eminence”
Episode 15: “Shades of Reason”
Episode 16: “The Lawless”
the culmination of all those previous episodes with Maul and not everybody gets a happy ending

THINGS COULDVE ENDED SO MUCH BETTER
Episode 1: “The Unknown”
Episode 2: “Conspiracy”
Episode 3: “Fugitive”
Episode 5: “An Old Friend”
ARE YOU READY TO CRY M O R E
Qui-Gon Returns
Episode 11: “Voices”
Episode 12: “Destiny”
Episode 13: “Sacrifice”
you ever wonder how obi wan just straight-up disappears in ANH
Story Reels -- you can find these on the star wars website i believe
The Bad Batch -- go watch the citadel arc first, then come back and meet some special boys
i know im missing some cause were missing commander wolffe and commander thorne and we dont see nearly enough of plo koon and kit fisto and but. well maybe i will go through later and add a few more

oH this conversation poppin up on my dash now??? saddle up because I have OPINIONS my friends. and I’m very rambly. reading over this I’m not sure if it’s super organized, but u kno what. take it. it’s so long. I apologize.
(disclaimer: agree or disagree, it doesn’t matter. which is the main point of this post anyway)
Everytime people have an argument over whether the Jedi are good/bad/forbid love/don’t forbid love in this fandom I just want to throw my hands into the air because EVERYONE IS RIGHT. You can finagle the dumpsterfire of Star Wars canon into literally anything. You can finagle the canon of anything into literally anything. (And anyway—there is nothing wrong with doing away with whatever canon is entirely, ignoring the source material is Totally Fine, so much of fandom is about transformative fiction, be free. I am digressing.)
First of all, canon itself as a concept is used very vaguely sometimes. There’s canon meaning ‘source material’ and then there’s canon meaning ‘this is what the author said this meant’ and then there’s ‘this is what the author meant but eh it looks a bit funky when you frame it from this perspective’ whether ‘this perspective’ is a villainized character’s or a sorta official movie poster’s or some tie in novel’s or some famous credentialed literary commentator’s or your own. What there isn’t is canon meaning ‘the One Real True™ interpretation of what a story means’ because canon as ‘what does this story mean’ (as opposed to canon as simply ‘fact level what happened what did this character say,’ which is often tied together with the ‘what does it mean’ part) is an inherently subjective thing.
Now for Star Wars. Canon* is super vague about the Jedi Order and you can justify anything about them. Space cult? Canon. Beacon of goodness and hope? Canon. Somewhere in between? Canon.
* Here meaning just movies. But like. Star Wars canon otherwise is. Super messy on the Jedi. With the films and the Word of God and extra material and whatnot. My take on that: Lucas is pretty explicitly pro-Jedi as mentioned above (so. I guess I’d have to disagree with OP on ‘the movies are supposed to cast the Jedi in a bad light’ bc I read ‘this fictional thing is supposed to do this’ as a matter of author intention and author intention is pro-Jedi, but whether the movies actually do cast the Jedi in a bad light is up to personal interpretation is what I’m saying); there’s That Movie Poster which has already been posted in this thread which is unambiguous in its phrasing about love; there’s the novels which are a Hot Mess bc so many different authors and all their stuff on the Jedi; sometimes I hear about Baby Ludi which sounds pretty damning on the Jedi but I have no honest idea where that comes from except… some old Internet page???; there’s the ‘Jedi code’ (you know, the ‘there is no emotion…’ thing OR the ‘emotion yet peace’ thing) that shows up randomly in extra material; then there’s the movies themselves which give such mixed signals especially AOTC what are you trying to do really; god SW canon is such a mess can we accept that already. Look at all those different interpretations of the Jedi. Look at ‘em and remember the movies came first and in some way inspired all of them.
There are just so many. Simple facts that canon leaves up to interpretation, which can all influence your view of the Jedi immensely. e.g.: is Tatooine part of the Republic (remember: omitting Word Of God)? How much can the Jedi learn about and interact with their home cultures? How much can Jedi know about their original families? Are the Jedi Corps a thing, can the Jedi ever be kicked out of the Order for something less than a crime? How much jurisdiction does the Senate have over the Jedi? How much of the Jedi’s stuff (Temple, etc.) is public property, how much are they funded publicly? How much does Force sensitivity affect a being’s development and need for attachment (used here referring to infant attachment theory)? Can the Order take a youngling without the parents’ permission? What is the Jedi’s take on the Dark Side, are Sith unredeemable because of Force Theology stuff dictating Once You Fall Forever You Are Tainted And Bad scrupulosity type shit, or is it because once you start mass murdering people you are forever accountable for your actions? (And. I had to cut out some part of this post where I said this because it’s getting so long but: both answers are good stories because ‘good story’ is such a subjective thing.) (edit: posted that stuff here.)
And. There will be arguments and counterarguments and counterarguments because. Everything is justifiable. e.g. How some Jedi dress is very in line with their homeworld cultures, doesn’t that mean that the Jedi do not forbid learning about their home cultures? You could say: maybe that’s just a very superficial thing they allow, and there is no real substantial learning. Tatooine does not accept Republic currency, how could it be part of the Republic? Say: the Republic literally does not care it’s overrun by Hutts bc political apathy and the Republic sucks, and I have to say that’s a fair reading of the Republic. And then there's Anakin's line in AOTC about how compassion is central to the life of the Jedi, and how compassion = unconditional love; it's super easy to read that as 'of course the Jedi don't forbid love, Anakin says that right there, if the Jedi explicitly forbade love he would not say that' (which is how I currently parse it as). But you could also say: this is Anakin and Padmé in a private moment, Anakin says something like "according to me..." and this could be cery unorthodox, the Jedi might not explicitly forbid love but still frown on that line of thinking, or perhaps what the Jedi call 'unconditional love' is unrecognizable as what we call love (which is a thought I see on another reply in this post). On the flip side, Anakin not being able to marry Padmé is such a major plot point of AOTC, of course the Jedi forbid romantic love/marriage. Say: they specify how it’s between a Jedi and a Senator, perhaps only Jedi-politician marriages are forbidden because conflict of interest. (Certainly an interesting pro-Jedi viewpoint to explore, but I don’t hold it in my headcanon canon.)
Honestly, how canon is it that Jedi have literally No Contact At All with original families? Maybe I am forgetting a line in the movies that says No, Not Even Minimal Contact, or is it all because Anakin doesn’t know anything about his mom during AOTC, because then: everything is justifiable, what if that’s only an Anakin thing because his mom is enslaved on a non-Republic world, thereby complicating the prospect of contact?
Even then: there are counterarguments to everything. Some people are saying that there is no justifiable reason why Jedi would cut ties with their original families; recently I read some very interesting meta about how being associated with the Jedi could place their original families in a lot of danger from the wrong people so. Everything is justifiable because canon is So Vague.
And because of that, because the questions of what Jedi attitudes and practices are re original families, emotions, close affective relationships, even marriage can be answered in so many varied ways and still be movie canon compliant, of course people are going to have wildly different readings on what canon is re what Jedi think of attachment and love.
Anyway. Everyone is right. Thanks for listening.
look, the Jedi code that forbids love doesn’t just forbid possessive love or selfish love. It forbids love, period. It’s an important plot point, and while it casts the Jedi in a pretty bad light, it’s actually supposed to do that. Non-film media that tried to retconn that love is allowed and non-attachment is actually just healthy boundaries misses the point in order to produce a less-nuanced story where the Jedi order is unambiguously heroic.
