*over the weekend* brain: Force lightning scars me: NO brain: YES me: FUCK
Anyway, had a pretty shoddy evening thanks to a fucking annoying neighbor so the “color the sketch” warmup was the only thing that happened tonight, sorry homework. Also it’s 1:30 AM on a worknight, fuck.

Acolyte Final Thoughts
Now that Acolyte is finished I thought I would do a round-up of my thoughts on the series for my own sake :)
Plu, Acolyte has come onto my screen during a very tumultuous time in my life and I am overall just thankful to have good story as a distraction! The fact I get to not think about anything except lightsabers is a welcome change and one I'm very greatful for.
Spoilers!
Things I love:
The fights: HELLLO? Oh man I love a good battle and I love a good explosion. There was so many gorgeous lightsabers. I loved the super cool stuff like Jecki double wielding against the The Stanger, every time Sol did anything with a blade, and definitely Jacinto's arms I mean wielding sorry. There was just so much talent that went into each battle making even the corniest slow-mo cool.
Many Jacinto, Amandla Stenberg x2, and Lee Jung-jae: The acting of these 3 in particular blew me away. Stenberg ATE with their lines for both Mae and Osha. And the emotional journey JJ went on was so raw. I'm now tempted to watch everything he have ever been in. And then Jacinto just ended up being a scene stealer everytime he was on. Nothing but respect for the casting team.
The Lighting: I could see EVERYTHING! What a novel idea! Also the lightsabers gave off such gorgeous light in the perfect moments.
Jecki: She's for the girlies I don't make the rules. She filled the Omgea sized whole in my heart.
Costumes: Textures? Yes pls. Also everything was tailored so well I could'nt help but notice.
The Coven: I love when SWs is spooky and they gave us spooky with this coven. I was werid and dark and I loved it.
The Stranger/Qimir/Darth Teeth: My biggest suprise for the season. I honostly have'nt had a villian I have been scared of in a long time, but I got majorly scared when he showed up and started rampaging. And then switch to like, "ok he's sexy now?" and "ok he's evil but has feelings?" was so much fun.
Things I did'nt love:
Vernestra: I'm a books fan so I knew Vern before this all and I wish I just got somthing *more* from her. She's so cool on paper and I wish either more emphasis was placed on her side plot or, she was given more instresing character or things to do. She had more screen time than charaters like Jecki or Yord and I know them so much better than Vern.
Jumping Planet to Planet: This is just a pet-peeve of mine. I wished they either moved around all the time or stayed in one place. I hate this in between they got going on. It was mostly in the later half of the season tho
Pacing/Episode Length: This is not a new complaint but still it just did'nt really flow well for me. I feel like they should've started with the 1st flashback, did the 2nd mid-season. And them end where they did. Just my 2 cents.
Overall: I'm a lesbian execpt for Sith-Manny-Jacinto. I'm adpoting Jecki. And Sol, honey, you were doomed by your own choices.
See you in hell, Jedi!

Can we talk about how crazy this exchange is -
Osha: You killed Jecki!
Qimir: And where did you think that was going to go? You would’ve had the same relationship with her that you had with your master - one sided. Why do you love people who can only go so far - who can’t go as deep as you can?
Like Yord, someone who Osha has been friends with since she was a padawan - since she was a child, essentially - his death is dismissed by Qimir entirely differently. He points out that Yord had gone to arrest Osha / had suspected her of being behind the killings at the start of the series.
And while there isn’t a similar action to give here to Jecki, it would’ve been easy for Qimir to dismiss her as being like all other Jedi, maybe even put some doubt into Osha’s mind and say Jecki didn’t believe her at first, etc etc (he’s crafty, he could come up with something)
But instead, he directly compares the relationship that Osha wants with Jecki to her relationship with Sol - the Jedi that essentially raised Osha, her father not by blood but by choice. Osha’s known Sol her entire life - she’s only just met Jecki. It’s a really telling choice that Qimir is indicating that Osha desires something that deep and profound with Jecki
And given that he just listed off the emotions of the dark side, that he just mentioned desire… That momentum carries into this conversation. Osha desires something deep with Jecki, something Jecki as a Jedi Qimir believes cannot return…
Attachment.
Maybe it’s familial in nature (it’s definitely possible to read this as Osha seeing Jecki as a sister, perhaps even replacing the gap left by Mae), but with the weight of desire… I can’t help but also interpret it as romantic - that Qimir is essentially insinuating that Osha wants a romantic relationship with Jecki, but Jecki will never be able to fulfill that role for her.
(I think it’s also worth considering that the show has highlighted time and time again how good at reading people / how perceptive Qimir is, so I think his analysis that Osha wanted a deeper connection with Jecki is supposed to be taken as accurate / true)

showing the jedi define what’s right by what’s legal was pretty bold! there’s no real difference between the witches training children and the jedi training children, besides the jedi having the law + manpower on their side. and we know this, and we also know the jedi have the best of intentions when taking osha in. sol promises osha she’ll never have to feel the pain of losing family again, and he means it! but she never would’ve lost her family if the jedi hadn’t trespassed. it’s all so knotty. this will probably be the show’s lasting controversy, but it’s 1000x more interesting than the jedi being in the right all the time

love how jedi in the acolyte all think about attachment differently…when jecki says that sol shouldn’t keep holos of his former padawans and sol counters that memories help you grow. they feel like a real religion with their differing interpretations! and that’s what it’s all about, truly.
