How do you think Gouhin feels about his son compared to san and Kyuu and vice versa (How do Kyuu and San see gouhin knowing that he has a "real" son out there)

This is interesting.

I cannot remember if Gouhin ever interacted with either San or Kyuu in the actual manga. I know that Kyuu wrote letters to Gouhin but I can't recall if they physically interacted in any way...

Gouhin’s decision to leave his family to work full-time at his rehabilitation clinic is both selfish and selfless.

On the one hand — yeah, he has abandoned his family. On the other hand though, he’s giving carnivores a chance to rehabilitate that they otherwise would not get.

I want to believe that Gouhin finds some way to keep in contact with his family — even if he only contacts his wife and son once every couple of months.

Yet, I do think that there's some sort of resentment that Gouhin’s family holds towards him — very few people would be happy if their loved one just up and left, with no intention of coming back.

However Gouhin feels about his family, it's clear that he feels stronger about his work in the Black Market.

This isn't to say that Gouhin doesn't love his son, or wife ... but, for whatever reason, he prioritises the Black Market more.

At first glance, it seems like the sort of thing Kyuu and San would be confused about — how could you willing leave your family to go to the Back Alley Market?

And sure, maybe Kyuu and San discuss such a thing among themselves ... but they never breathe word of their thoughts to Gosha.

San is content with assuming that Gouhin had his reasons for leaving his family, but Kyuu just can't wrap her head around it.

I can see Kyuu writing letters to Gouhin, asking and questioning him about his decision. She’s too ashamed to send those letters, but it also feels like a waste to burn them, so, she keeps them.

While Kyuu and San may see Gouhin as a surrogate parent (or at least, guardian of some kind), I don't think Gouhin views them in a similar fashion.

Gouhin seems the type to draw a firm line between his work and personal life ... Kyuu and San both fall into the former categories, for him.

The top page is one of my favorite panels of Kyoshiro, and it should have been in the anime. What I got out of Kyoshiro's words to Weed when he thought his father was dead was basically that its healthy and normal for men and boys to show vulnerability, that people can grow the more they open themselves up to their friends, and those who have never been taught how to do that and only react to things with anger, hatred, and violence, and never allowing themselves to open up to others, can grow up to be awful people. It's a very sweet moment. But the bottom panel? It's almost like night and day. Kyoshiro became, well, Jyoshiro.

The Ginga series should have ended after the Hougen arc imo.

It's pretty straightforwardly Legoshi. You just spend basically the whole story in his brain unpacking his mess, and that's where most of what's interesting about what Beastars is doing comes from. For the rest of the cast, if you're not Louis you just don't get a ton of focus, with characters like Gouhin, Jack and Juno all vanishing for volumes at a time. From the Shishigumi I like Agata and Free, and out of the nothing characters I just think Miguno is neat. He's a hyena so he's in a band called The Leftovers with a vulture. It's dumb lol

This isn't something where I have enough material to write an essay, but it's something where I nonetheless want to make it clear that this is one of the many Beastars-related hills I will gladly die on:

Zaguan is Beastars's Jar-Jar Binks.

He's a character from an underwater world whose primary purpose is to be wacky comic relief due to his strange underwater world customs and his lack of understanding of surface world customs, and it's obvious that somebody in the production chain really fuckin' likes him because suddenly he keeps showing up way more often than he has any right or need to (why is Jar-Jar now the senator from Naboo and the author of Palpatine's Enabling Act? why does Zaguan get a full chapter of denouement where nothing happens PLUS a Beast Complex chapter when much more established characters like Jack & the 701 boys, Gouhin, the Cherryton drama club, and the Shishigumi barely even get a page each?).

I'm sorry, but these are the same character, and they serve about the same level of narrative utility.

A fan made concept for a Beastars fighting game! Tried putting all of the characters! The concept is based on Capcom vs SNK as you can see from the character select portraits.

It uses the same groove system, just with 3 characters + An assist. The assist characters is only worth a single life bar instead of 4 for balancing purposes.

-Legosi: Bread and butter characters. Your Goku, your Mario, your Ryu. Bug based projectiles for a ranged attack (Sorry people who are bug-phobic). His level 3 super involves the “Super Legosi” look that he gets after eating Louis’ leg

-Haru: Similar to Zamasu and Beerus in Dragon Ball Fighterz, she specializes in setting up projectiles and traps, just that they’d be plant-based for her gimmicks. Her actual light medium and heavy attacks are meh and only exist for setup purposes

-Louis: Piece of shit zoner with a Gun. Nothing really beyond that. Maybe have him use his prosthetic for attacks but they’d be weak anyways since zoners are supposed to play lame anyways.

-Juno: Theather based moveset! She has the Adler Scythe and many other stage props for extended range. Another basic character for newcomers to pick up. (Basically what you tell your little sister to play) Has surprisingly good range on all her attacks and she has really good air game.

-Jack: Yknow Ginyu from Dragon Ball fighterz? That but he calls the 701 boys. Jank jank jank and more jank

-Bill: Rushdown character that uses a rapier (Based on the Adler play we saw during the first arc). While he isn’t an assist character like Jack, the drama club members make a cameo during his level 3 super.

-Ibuki: Assist character... 2! He calls the Shishigumi for combos. He’s more focused on projectiles (Again, gun.) compared to Jack, however.

-Yahya: Rushdown characters but way more complicated than Bill (Which is more unga bunga more than anything)

-Gouhin: Graaaaappleeeeeeeeeeeeeer. Super armor on like half of his moves

-Riz: The most unga bunga brain dead character. He’s insane and probably the boss of the arcade ladder. Everyone would send Riz players death threats online from the sheer frustration that he would bring.

-Gosha: Debuffs on almost all of his moves depending if you input light medium or heavy. (Reduced attack for heavy, reduced defense for middle and minus 20% of a super bar for light.)

-Melon: The third bread and butter character. A perfect balance of projectiles, attacks and air game.

-Pina: The first joke character, at least graphics wise! He doesn’t attack, but instead, each one of his inputs summons a random Cherryton girl to try and slap/hit him for being a cheating harlot. It results in a strange moveset where most of his moves actually act as a dodge of sort.

-Legom: The second joke character. Idk, she has a pan.

-Kyuu: Basically Android 18 in Fighterz, with San acting as Android 17

-Sagwan: He’s another heavy. He uses water elemental attacks and his super involves dropping a whale on someone.

I really really wanna do a Riz and Pina story that just rips to shreds the idea that they're actually a good couple but it feels mean and it'd be pretty intense trying to write and I've got the terminal Brain Bad that's got me already hung up on like 6 other WIPs rn but hear me out

Pina's one of those characters who everyone likes and everyone wants to like so we interpret him in the most generous way possible, and I'm not saying there's anything wrong with that and in fact him growing as a person is all considered the more likely scenario, but we don't really have a solid reason to think he's not still the little shitheel that goes around antagonizing people for shits and giggles. Maybe it doesn't even matter what his actual intentions are for this idea, maybe Pina just doesn't realize what a massive backhanded move it is, what matters is how he affects Riz, and Riz has PLENTY of reasons to not think Pina's changed.

Legoshi didn't want to call the cops because he knew the carcaral system would be bad for Riz, Riz actually had his breakthrough that let him start processing his shit for real because Legoshi decided to fight him. Riz probably would've insisted on turning himself in sure but Legoshi could've pushed him toward actual treatment and once Gouhin got him he could've actually acclimated y'know.

Pina is the reason he's in jail. Pina is well known for making carnivores uncomfortable because Pina actually understands the power herbivores have over them in society. Pina is one of the only people on Earth who know Riz has an obsessive personality and a deep need for connection and a particular affinity for little wooly guys. How is Riz supposed to think anything about Pina other than that he's here to mock him? Make Riz "like" him so he doesn't kill him when he gets out.

And what's maybe worse is it's working. The guards are uncomfortable letting Pina in but he's an herbivore, he can get what he wants, it just means Riz is in a few more restraints than usual, fuck they won't even let his family visit most of the time but Pina gets whatever Pina wants. It means Pina is his only friend, it means the focus of his obsession is slowly sliding off Tem and onto Pina, he can feel it, and he hates it.

But he can't talk to anyone about it, his case manager and his mandated therapist think it's good for Riz to be able to acclimate himself to an herbivore like that. If he complains he'll get a sentence extension. If he confronts Pina or scares him off then there's no herbivores around to vouch for him, to show how much "progress" he's making. Of course Pina could just get bored and stop coming some day anyway, and what does that mean for Riz? He has to play along, let Pina think he's making him uncomfortable, but play nice anyway?

It's not bad enough that he's losing a decade of his life to a system that hates him, now he has to juggle keeping his real self alive and not broken by the system, looking like he's doing what everyone wants him to for even the chance of getting out one day, and let this smarmy little fuck bat his feelings around?? All because Pina gets whatever he wants, the world was made for people like him, Rex he wishes he actually pully that pretty boys guts out when he had the chance but no even at his absolute lowest Riz always had to acquiesce to pretty perfect little Pina, he can do whatever he wants to Riz, and Riz will let him, and trying to draw the line between whether it's survival, lust, rage, desire gets harder every day.
